They say everyone should write at least one book in your lifetime.I wrote one while I'm still alive. I'm ja-like proud (& TIRED as hell from the 40+ hour weekends for the last 2 months). But hella proud. Can I just "testify" real quick? One year ago I went to Lisa Nichols @lisa2motivate Speak & Write To Make Millions conference. I had 1000 directions I was going in but knew I wanted to get this done & I had a clear vision. I came back from California & booked the theater without having NOT ONE CHAPTER written (though I had been having convos & interviewing ppl for years). All I knew was that I was going to write a book & release it with a performance & keynote speech. I started working FT, applied for grad school & host of stuff been going on. I didn't formally start writing until 2 months ago. Then in the midst of that, a month ago tragedy struck & I found my friend in her apartment deceased. I was stuck for a week (and still recovering). I found her on April 12th, my book was due on April 16. I didn't have a full book typed on the 16th. The show & release was approaching. I came back to myself a bit realizing this tragedy was parallel to the very reason for me writing the book bc her death brought up so much about black mother-daughter relationships. My sister friend & publisher @kanikkij came back in my life at a critical moment & encouraged me & said WE GON' GET THIS BOOK DONE AND IN TIME FOR YOUR RELEASE. I spazzed the night before we found my friend questioning if this is the work I'm supposed to be doing or should I just give up & be "regular." My tribe of sisters counseled me til 3am to reverse my thinking. My elders counseled me that I was chosen to assist in transition BECAUSE OF the work I do. Long story long, there was NO WAY this book was supposed to be here by Saturday. The files kept corrupting, everything that could go wrong, did & the full manuscript got off to the printer last Monday night/Tuesday morning. The copies arrived Thursday afternoon when it should have taken 2 WEEKS. I sold 6 copies BEFORE the show took place & SOLD OUT the rest at the release. This journey was meant. May this reach the person in doubt right now. #myBARZHealScars

As a person who specifically does work surrounding Black mother-daughter relationships, I have loved and been following @redtabletalk since the promo came out and have always seen these conversations as absolutely necessary ESPECIALLY having the younger generation at the table so S/O to @willowsmith. Thx Red Table Talk Group for having extended online dialogue. I really appreciate seeing the hard and necessary conversation that happened with @jadapinkettsmith and @shereefletcher bc it shows a "how-to" for women who may not have ever seen how to be amicable to each other. We often presume relationships with other women don't need instructions, which couldn't be further from the truth. This is something we learn from our mothers. I can't wait to see more! And if you like Red Table Talk and are in the DC-MD-Va area this weekend, I will be extending this conversation in "My BARZ Heal Scars: The WombPrint To Healing The Girl Within." This is a musical speech and book release that speaks on Black mother-daughter relationships using hip hop. I have 8 FREE TICKETS 🎫 to the show for black girls and women ages 12+.
