A Guide to Diamond Art Numbering Systems

You may have found, in your diamond painting experience, that your kits can be broken down into a few parts. Kits that have a numbering system for the colors (see highlights in image below), and kits that don't. I'm going to be talking about the first type here, I avoid the second type like the plague.

Now, with the numbering system, there are 2 main numbering systems. There's the DMC numbers, which correspond to the thread colors that also use this system. Then there's the Diamond Dotz numbering system (abbreviated DD).

The DMC numbers, in diamond art gems, range from 150-996 then skipping to 3011-3866. I've had some kits that have special gems numbered before, with a more reflective surface, but those aren't as common in my experience.

The DD numbers range from 8001-8448, then the sparkle and metallic colors having different numbers.

Now, if you keep all of your extra gems to work on different projects with, and you keep them sorted, you know that the colors add up very fast, especially if you have both the numbering systems.

Well, what if I told you that you can combine the colors from the DD numbers with the DMC numbers? For the most part at least. I've had some where the shades don't match exactly, but it matches very well.

You can find a conversion chart on the Diamond Dotz website if you scroll to the bottom of the freestyle page (linked here). The chart is ordered by the DD numbers, so the DMC numbers are very out of order, so I've copied the chart and ordered in by DMC number in a google sheets linked here.

I've found this to be a very helpful tool, so I wanted to share this so that everyone else can get use from it. I use the DD chart to sort my gems when I finish a DD kit, then I can use the DMC chart when I'm looking to buy some individual colors for projects.

Irises (Van Gogh) Diamond Dotz Time Lapse

58 hours and over 48,000 Dotz later IT IS FINISHED. This is my first time doing a time lapse video and let's just say I've learned a few things during and after filming. Enjoy the madness and let's hope I never do another Diamond Dotz ever again!

Sure am! Thanks for the request 🥰 Been thinking a lot about Leila the last few days (for some obvious reasons) so she may make a return in future drabbles too. We’ll see!  😀

#15. Can you name 5 personality traits they have?

Leila is very easy-going. Very few things get to her, which is probably why she was able to wait so long to start dating Vergil in the first place. 

She is also a bit of an introvert. Vergil’s family overwhelmed her at first, and it took many months of friendship and a few formal dates before she found the courage to attend one of their parties. By then, Vergil cared for her enough that he stayed by her side the entire time and helped ease her anxiety. Now, she’s comfortable with the family, but still prefers time alone (or with Vergil) at home. 

She’s imaginative to a fault. On the positive side, she loves to read and gets very invested in the characters and worlds on the page. She can also use it to tackle problems in different ways. On the negative side, her imagination often gets away from her, leaving her to seem somewhat flighty to people that aren’t aware of or used to it. 

She’s also incredibly truthful about everything and believes that lying, no matter the situation, is never right. This has gotten her in trouble from time to time, but that’s just how she is. 

Lastly, Leila is very aware of the emotions of the people around her. This is part of the reason she struggles with larger groups. In situations like the festival, she needs someone (like Vergil) to focus on and keep her grounded.  

#21. What are their hobbies?

Other than reading, Leila loves to knit and crochet. She’s tried sewing before but doesn’t enjoy it as much. She also loves unusual art projects such as Diamond Dotz, Paint by Numbers, and plenty of other random things. She also loves watching cooking shows, even though Vergil is more of the chef in their household. (She can make a mean mac-and-cheese though!).

#49. Do they act differently around different people?

Not really. Leila actually hates the idea that people might think she is someone she’s not. However, she is a lot more relaxed around Vergil, especially in the aforementioned crowds or family gatherings. She also tends to talk about more personal things with him. 

#100. Are they a day or night person?

Morning/day person 100%. Leila loves to wake up early. Bonus points if she rises with the sun. She likes to use as much daylight as possible and can keep herself very busy, even on days without any concrete plans. She can still function at night, but she gets very tired very quickly after dark and usually needs a lot of coffee if she has to stay up late. (New Year's Eve is the worst offender and throws off her sleep schedule for about a week).
