Éowyn, Tolkien's views on gender roles and on war.
Although its length may suggest otherwise, this post is not an essay; my goal is to seek answers from those dissatisfied with Tolkien’s treatment of Éowyn. If you're willing to answer or simply add links to posts/papers on this, I'd greatly appreciate it.
My doubts—and believe me, they are exactly that—stem from, admittedly, too many hours spent reading "war books," both fiction and non-fiction about the Great War and WWII, particularly accounts from real soldiers, which may distort my perspective of Éowyn. My attraction to these stories has little to do with History itself and everything to do with the soldiers’ stories. And one thing they have in common is this: those who fought in the wars rarely saw their sacrifices as glorious—quite the opposite. Deaths in war are almost always portrayed as utterly senseless and unreasonable.
And Tolkien, very notably, was one of them. Now, I don’t know if he explicitly addresses this topic in any of his letters. What I do know is that, likely because of my readings, I notice—or misinterpret—the soldier in Tolkien.
I’m particularly focusing on The Children of Húrin and Túrin as an example, though I’ve traced similar themes in other characters throughout his entire legendarium.
A defining trait of Túrin is his hunger for vengeance against Morgoth. His ambition is to gather a sizable force and storm Morgoth’s fortress. Many characters (Beleg and Gwindor in particular) tell him outright how futile this ambition is. Even if he’s lucky, they argue, he will at best inflict minor losses on Morgoth’s forces, but he will never truly defeat him. Túrin stubbornly insists that any victory, no matter how small, is worthwhile: "For victory is victory, however small, nor is its worth only from what follows from it.”
Yet others, especially Gwindor, suggest that even these so-called victories serve no real purpose ("Petty victories will prove profitless at the last," says Gwindor) and may ultimately do more harm than good. Why?
At the very beginning of CoH, we glimpse Morwen’s perspective on war. She argues that those who go to battle forget the suffering of those left behind—especially when their loved ones don’t return. She tells Húrin this, and when he fails to come back to her, her life (and those of her children) becomes a living hell.
This is precisely Gwindor’s point when he tells Túrin: "You think of yourself and of your own glory, and bid us each do likewise; but we must think of others beside ourselves, for not all can fight and fall, and those we must keep from war and ruin, while we can.”
Note how Gwindor frames Túrin’s thirst for glory as selfish, in contrast with the need to protect those who cannot fight. What happens to them when nothing and no one stands between them and destruction?
This is where I perceive the soldier in Tolkien: he does not glorify Túrin’s bravery. His pursuit of battle is senseless because he cannot win the war. And if he cannot win, his death will be meaningless—and worse, it will bring greater suffering to those he seeks to protect.
Now, back to Éowyn. Does Tolkien truly dismiss her experience as a shieldmaiden, treating it as something she must be “tamed” out of? Does he believe her natural, ultimate, and rightful state is that of a traditional feminine role?
I think the answer is both yes and no.
Éowyn’s grievances are consistently dismissed by the men in her life. Honestly, I’d punch Aragorn. Of course, she does not wish to fight only for glory; she fears being caged—both in the literal sense of a conquered people facing enslavement and in the figurative sense of her role as a woman. She is not free to choose her fate, and the cage that traps her is built by the men around her.
Yet her desire for battlefield glory is one of her motivations for fighting. And my take is this: for Tolkien (as I interpret him), glory is not a genuine reason to become a soldier at all.
Faramir, the man who ultimately “tames” her, is also the one who says: "I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend."
The only true, valid reason to go to war is to protect others—our loved ones, our people, our comrades.
Éowyn’s greatest accomplishment is slaying the Witch-King, but she does so not for personal glory, but to protect her kinsman.
Of course, in the end, Eowyn goes back to the role of a care-taker — except, her exact words on her future endeavors are: “I will be a shieldmaiden no longer, nor vie with the great Riders, nor take joy only in the songs of slaying. I will be a healer, and love all things that grow and are not barren.” Healing is not the same as becoming a homemaker. In modern terms, she essentially chooses to become a doctor. While Tolkien frames healing as a feminine role, there are notable male healers in his works—Elrond, for instance. Given that Éowyn is a noblewoman living in peacetime, healing is a meaningful, self-directed path for her.
And once again, it is Faramir who “tames” her. To me, this means he helps her realize that her hunger to prove herself on the battlefield is futile—not because she is a woman, but because war itself is futile. As many soldiers have said: War is hell. It is not a proving ground for personal merit or growth.
I deeply love both Túrin and Éowyn’s courage. And while I think Tolkien’s experience as a soldier influenced how he wrote Éowyn’s “taming,” I can’t completely dismiss how his beliefs about traditional gender roles likely played a role.
So, my question is: does my reading (which, as I’ve made clear, is deeply influenced by my non-Tolkien readings) distort and fail to fully grasp the sexism in her portrayal? I’m trying to be more critical of Tolkien’s treatment of his female characters. At the same time, I don’t want to do Éowyn a disservice by reducing her arc to "No, no, it’s not sexism. Tolkien just rejected the idea of glory through battle altogether, regardless of gender."

Honky Dancer series - Chapter 2
Chapter title: Contracts and options Read the previous installment here: Chapter 1 Rating: M Pairing: Taron x OC Warnings: Slight cursing A/N: I hope you love the drama in this chapter as much as I loved writing it! More mature themes will develop, so be warned! Enjoy! X
My alarm went off far too early because I had spent most of the night tossing and turning with both nerves and excitement over my audition. I felt I had done well and made an impression; I knew I had worked my butt off, not only during the audition itself but also just to get there in the first place. I was tired enough to stop at Notes Coffee Roasters and pick up an iced latte, figuring I could spare the calories, on my way to my 6 a.m. aerobics class. I truly loved teaching but if there was one class I would gladly give up it would be aerobics; who in their right mind wanted to get up before the sun did just to sweat for 45 minutes? I was never awake enough for the cheeriness of my suburban football-mom students.
I’m pretty sure I sipped half of my latte down in one pull and groaned against the subsequent brain freeze as I opened up the studio. It took everything in me to summon up the energy to get through aerobics without shouting my instructions in a bitchy manner, and I was positively exhausted by the time I made it through conditioning, beginning basics, intermediate amateur, and one of my personal favorites, toddler tap. I mean, there was very little actual tapping going on, but the students always made up for it in the cuteness factor.
I eagerly checked my phone when I went on break but I hadn’t received the call I’d been hoping for. Mads and I quickly walked to our favorite lunch hideout, a place called Hemsley + Hemsley inside the Selfridges. I ordered my go-to cold-pressed green juice and we decided to share the orange-blossom-infused yogurt and honey-filled chestnut crepe.
“Any news?” Madison asked me as we tucked into our food and juices.
“Not yet. It’s killing me,” I admitted.
“So tell me, how did it go? You’ve got to fill me in!” she grinned. I told her all about the process and how I’d made some friends and hoped we all got in together before she asked me point blank if I’d run into anyone famous while at Paramount. My face flushed but before I could tell her about Taron my phone rang.
“It’s them!” I hissed at Mads in excitement, before picking up the call. “Hello?” I said, probably sounding way too eager.
“Hello love,” an incredibly familiar voice said on the other end, and I fairly choked on my pressed juice.
“Hi, hey,” I said, trying to recover. “Um … What do I owe this pleasure?” I asked awkwardly, and Taron just chuckled on the other end.
“I wanted to personally deliver the news myself that you’ve been selected as one of our dancers. So congratulations, love. I hope you’re very pleased, as I am,” he said with a grin in his voice.
Holy shit, I mouthed to Mads as she squealed in her seat, unaware of who exactly I was talking to.
“I ...yes, of course I’m incredibly excited,” I laughed after I managed to recover my composure. “I just wouldn’t have expected Paramount to make you their errand boy,” I teased. Mads gave me a funny look, desperate to know what was happening.
This earned a hearty laugh from Taron on the other end. “I asked to deliver the news personally,” he grinned. “You are, after all, my favorite dancer.”
“That’s entirely too kind of you to say,” I said, taken aback.
“Well I did sit through 40 solos just for the privilege to watch you dance so I feel I have a right to make that assessment,” he said lightly.
“Oh my God, I don’t deserve for you to think that,” I replied.
“Well, we’ll see about that, won’t we?” he said gently before clearing his throat. “So you can stop by the studios at your convenience today to fill out the contract and hopefully that will be amenable.”
“Good, of course,” I said, shaking my head. “I’ll be there as soon as I’m done with work.”
“Perfect. See you then,” he said nonchalantly. I wasn’t sure whether he actually meant that or it was just a standard thing to have said, but we took our good-byes and I sat there in dumbfounded silence until Mads couldn’t take it anymore.
“What is all of this?” she asked, making a circular motion in the air around my face, which was probably as red as a robin’s breast.
“I was getting to that part,” I laughed, hiding my face behind my hands for a second. “I ran into the film’s lead, Taron, when I was at auditions yesterday. Well, he actually opened a door into me, and I fell and it was spectacularly embarrassing,” I admitted with a laugh. “But somehow that possessed him to watch us all dance… Out of pity? I don’t know,” I shrugged as the incredulous look just grew on Madison’s face the more I rambled. “So anyway, he just called me to tell me I was cast as a dancer so... I’m in!” I squealed at that.
“Taron didn’t watch your ass dance out of sympathy, are you crazy?” Madison giggled. “He’s probably fancying you,” she said with a smirk, and I shook my head.
“No no no, we’re not even going there. Me, dancer. Him, actor. That’s like different species and different species don’t mix,” I laughed, as Madison threw an orange slice at me.
“You are so daft!” she laughed. “How can you not see when a boy likes you? You with your gorgeous strawberry-blonde locks and blue eyes and freckles. It’s disgusting, really. I just look like the boring brown blah ugly duckling next to you,” she said a bit wistfully, chin in her hand.
“Oh come on, Mads, you’re gorgeous. And it’s not like I exactly know how to pick ’em, considering Zayn and all,” I sighed, referring to my ex.
“Yes well, the world isn’t full of Zayns. He’s extra special,” she said, stabbing a bit of crepe with extra gusto and poking it in her mouth.
“If by extra special you mean extra wanker, then yeah,” I said, shaking my head as we both just giggled.
“Well I’m sure Taron’s not like that at all,” she said. “It’s not like I haven’t watched every YouTube interview out there,” she said with a touch of sarcasm. “He seems incredibly sweet to people,” she pointed out. Leave it to my best friend to be obsessed with him; I had tried my hardest to convince her to audition with me but she said her skills outside of ballet were rusty at best and she would be just be embarrassing herself. I appreciated her teasing me about it though; I couldn’t deny Taron was handsome, though I didn’t exactly download every picture to my phone.
“He’s very nice, I can already tell that. And maybe he even thinks I’m pretty, sure. But we’re only co-cast members, you know, and I’ll just be in the background. He’s really the star. Besides, he doesn’t even know me. Not like we had a chat or anything. He had to call me by my bib number first, after all,” I laughed.
“Just never say never, Juliette. Life can surprise you,” Madison grinned at me. But I had already had plenty of surprises in my life, and I was ready to be done with that. We finished our lunch and made it back for afternoon classes; thankfully I only had two more to get through before I could head over to Paramount. I was absolutely knackered by the time I packed up my dance bag and pulled sweats on over my leotard and tights. I waved to Madison as I passed her classroom and she gave me a thumbs up before I headed to the tube station, responding to a few texts from my ex and feeling once again annoyed at his lack of responsibility. You see, I had to stay in contact with him because we both had one shared thing in common: A certain precocious 7-year-old daughter named Clara.
<You promised me you’d be able to watch her while I’m in rehearsals. I really need you to step up. This isn’t negotiable and mummy can’t watch her all the time either.> I texted back, sighing slightly to myself.
I knew relying on Zayn had been a bad idea to begin with, as he’d never proven himself mature enough to handle being a father in any regular capacity. He’d do well for a couple months and then fall off the map again, drinking and losing his job and couch-surfing with friends. But for Clara to not know her father had made me feel like a terrible person, so every time he came around promising that he’d cleaned up I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I hardly knew what it was to not be disappointed in a man any more.
<I know, and I will. It’s just for tonight, Letty, we have these tickets…>
<Yeah and those excuses don’t cut it, Zayn. It’s always excuses. Your daughter is more important than some show. She needs a father so I can stop explaining at school why this completely bright student has behavioral issues. But you would know that if you were involved.> I rubbed my temple, annoyed and too exhausted to have this fight all over again.
<You’re absolutely right, actually. I’ll cancel the plans and try to sell the tickets. Sorry to bother you.> He texted back, and I groaned slightly. Of course now I felt like the asshole, and it wasn’t like I didn’t enjoy time with my daughter.
<I appreciate the offer, I do. But you should go. Just drop Clara off with my mum and I’ll get her on my way home. But I need you to pick her up first thing in the morning for school and don’t be late this time.>
<You’re an absolute saint, Letty> He sent back, making me cringe at the pet name he had given me that now left a bad taste in my mouth. I sighed and texted my mum a head’s up about the change in plans, grateful for everything she had done for me and Clara over the years. I don’t know what I would have done without her help, to be sure. Being a single mum had proven incredibly challenging and I wasn’t sure how I would have been able to afford child care and rent on my meager paychecks. I probably would have had to give up dance but my mum knew how important that dream had always been for me. I had more stability now then when I was performing, but that didn’t mean the challenge to give Clara a stable life didn’t remain.
I was lost in thought by the time I arrived at Paramount, but I tried to put all of that aside so I could focus on the task at hand. I’d also received a steady stream of excited texts from Leah, Pietre, Dennis and Markus; all five of us had made it onto the cast and it felt like a bit of a celebration. I wasn’t exactly sure where I was going but helpful signs had been posted about on the walls, so I followed the giant black arrows through the maze of halls until I arrived at a lobby, where a couple other dancers were sat waiting.
“Juliette!” someone called my name. I spied Markus against the wall, waving at me and I happily jogged over to sit next to him as he moved his bag out of the way. “I saved you a seat,” he said, flashing me a grin of exceptionally perfect, white teeth. While we chatted about our mutual love of ballet and our tragic falls from grace [Markus, too, had experienced a career-ending injury] as principals, I noticed up-close that his eyes were a lovely shade of pale grey. I’d never quite seen eyes like that before, and I couldn’t help feeling a bit mesmerized by both his gaze and his instant charm. It was nice to feel like someone was on my level and could understand what I’d fought through to get here. Other dancers came and went, and when Markus was finally called back to the office I texted Madison furiously about him, unashamedly giggly about it.
<Does someone have a bit of a crush or what?> Madison teased me lightly.
<You don’t get it, he’s rather dishy and so charming and suave. And he gets me.> I wrote back.
<Yeah and what about Taron?> Mads asked.
<What about him? He’s nice to me, nothing more.>
<Yeah sure. But don’t give me any more of that “He’s an actor and would NEVER notice a dancer like me” bullshit because I’m not buying it.>
<Besides, if Taron’s here I haven’t seen him. And what am I supposed to do anyway, hang them up next to each other side-by-side and compare their traits?>
<Just don’t be blind to what could be good for you, that’s all.>
<AND Clara. Don’t forget, this is a packaged deal.> I wrote back, smiling as my mum sent me a sweet Snapchat of my daughter playing piano. She finished the song and, beaming into the camera, smiled, waved and announced that she was going to be as good as Elton some day, which made me laugh softly. I’m glad my mum and I had passed down our impeccable taste in music already to my daughter; it was so much better than the trash punk her father listened to.
I happened to look up just then and saw Taron leaning into the lobby from the doorway, clearly searching for someone, and his face brightened as soon as he spotted me. He strode in and despite the obvious gasps of recognition from the other dancers there, he beelined straight for me. I was both flattered and embarrassed about that fact, all too aware of the jealous expressions tossed my way.
“You made it!” Taron grinned at me, as if he’d been worried I would have decided against this whole thing.
“Of course,” I laughed, adjusting in my seat at the same time he surprised me with a hug so I nearly knocked my head into his teeth. “Shit, sorry,” I apologized but he must have found my awkwardness amusing because he laughed and shrugged it off.
“Continuing that klutzy streak I see?” he teased, raising a characteristic eyebrow at me.
“Always,” I said with a laugh. “Truly don’t know how I stay employed at the dance studio, to be honest,” I continued the rolling joke.
“Oh, do you teach?” he asked, earnestly curious in me.
“Yeah, mostly young kids,” I smiled at that. “I really do love it, getting to inspire the next generation of dancers.”
“I can see that,” he studied me for a moment, and I had to look away from the intensity of his green eyes. “You always seem so passionate about it, I can’t imagine that not translating to every area of your life.”
I was about to respond but just then Markus returned and somehow seemed to have a double-take when he noticed Taron sitting in his vacated seat next to me. He came over to me and, right in front of Taron, told me he looked forward to dancing alongside me and then point-blank asked me if I wanted to get drinks with him some time. I felt absolutely flustered at his offer and managed to stammer out a ‘yes, sure, love to’ before Markus leaned over and kissed me on the cheek.
“Cheerio,” he smiled to me, flicking the tip of my nose lightly before sweeping out of the room.
“Well that was a production, wasn’t it,” Taron remarked, the buzz of something low in his voice.
“Mmm, dancers are dramatic,” I tried to laugh, but Taron was no longer smiling.
“Tell me about it, love, I’m an actor. I get being dramatic but that was something else,” he replied, giving me a slight chill down my back, but I had absolutely no time to react because my name was called then.
“I should … get in there,” I said softly, as Taron rearranged his expression and put a smile on his face. If I hadn’t been so focused on him I might have lost the nuance of that.
“Of course you should,” he replied with a nod. I got up and walked into the office, Taron’s steely gaze following after me. I did my best to focus on the contract terms and everything that would be required of me as I signed form after nondisclosure form, but something had just happened back there that I was having trouble deciphering. I figured I should probably run it by Mads because she seemed to have a knack for understanding people. I was still distracted by the time I finished the paperwork and was handed a stack of information and rehearsal schedules, and so when I exited the lobby and turned the corner I ran straight into Taron, managing to drop my stack of papers all over the hallway floor.
“Jesus Churchill Jones, what are you doing here?” I asked in surprise, as Taron crouched down and picked up my papers for me.
“I thought I’d walk you out, if that was alright?” he asked. “I know you were weirded out earlier and I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”
“I’m fine, if a little miffed,” I shrugged as we started walking back through the labyrinth of halls toward the exit, Taron still carrying my papers. I realized that I was just inherently trusting Taron to lead the way, figuring he already knew the place like the back of his hand.
“It just seemed a bit possessive to me, the way that dancer acted toward you,” Taron tried to explain.
“Possessive? How?” I laughed lightly at that. “Markus and I got on quite well before you showed up.”
“But that’s exactly it. He shouldn’t have felt threatened by me at all. I’ve just seen it before,” he said, his eyes trained on the floor. But then he reached out for my hand and stopped me, turning me to face him. “I’m saying this completely as a friend, just be careful with him.” There was something so deeply vulnerable in the way that Taron was looking at me that I felt I had to take what he said seriously. I couldn’t detect any ulterior motives there, so I filed the warning away in my mind and half-wondered if Taron could sense my weakness for men who seemed so polished on the outside but could secretly be snakes.
“I’ll be careful,” I said, as much to make Taron feel better as to remind myself. We continued walking, as I asked how things were going with him. He filled me in on everything he had to accomplish as filming neared, learning the piano, working new arrangements of the music, and all of the pre-production work that had to happen. It really kind of amazed me how dedicated he was to the project, and even more so how highly he spoke of Elton himself.
“Well, I should stop boring you,” Taron chuckled as we arrived at the exit doors, but I shook my head.
“You’re absolutely not a bore. I’m sure I could listen to you talk about it for hours on end,” I smiled genuinely at that.
“If we both weren’t so busy, maybe I’d ask a certain dancer to have dinner with me some time so then I could truly bore her for hours,” he said with a wink, his demeanor completely changed from earlier. He was at once adorably flirtatious with me, and I couldn’t help but swoon slightly.
“Maybe she might just say she’d love to,” I grinned back. He fished a pen out of his pocket and scrawled his phone number across the top of the stack of papers before handing them to me.
“We’ll plan it… eventually,” he grinned before giving me the “call me” gesture and making me laugh.
I took my leave, Taron holding the door for me as the perfect gentleman he was and waving to me long after I’d hurried down the street. I felt my heart warring inside of me a bit, and I had no idea what I was supposed to think. With these thoughts burning into my soul, I took the train across London to pick up my sweet daughter. At least I still had that to look forward to, I thought as I made sure to transfer Taron’s number into my phone before I forgot or misplaced it.
<Hey, it’s me, your favorite dancer!> I sent a quick text, just so he had my number as well and definitely not expecting the immediate reply I got back.
<And saved. If you send me a pic I’ll add it to your profile.> My stomach suddenly lit on fire with nerves at that, for no bloody reason at all. I had all of my contacts with photos, so it only made sense that Taron might as well. There was nothing out of the ordinary about the request but the idea of sending him my face made me feel some kind of way. I swiped through my pictures, most of them stupid selfies, but I finally decided on the professional headshot I’d had taken for the audition. I felt it showed the best of me, and I looked half-decent enough, dare I say pretty. The photographer had at least had the sense to focus on one of my best features; my blue eyes stood out like sapphires.
Taron immediately sent me back one of his own, a decidedly more personal shot but he looked gorgeous none-the-less. I attached the photo to his profile and then stashed my phone for a moment, needing to focus on my daughter as I hopped off the train at my stop and dashed for my mum’s house. I let myself in and found them in the kitchen, my daughter drawing a picture that she immediately abandoned as soon as she saw me.
“Mummy’s here!” she squealed, running into my waiting arms and hugging me tightly. “I missed you so much!”
“I missed you too, my darling,” I said, running my fingers through her tangled bright red curls; where she got that color was beyond me, but I loved it. “How was school?” I asked.
“A bit of a bore, really. Teacher says I’m too smart for my class,” she added importantly.
“Hmm, well, hopefully you didn’t sass her too much,” I sighed, giving my mum a knowing glance.
“I didn’t!” she said, putting her little hands on her hips.
“I’ll have to have a talk with your school when I can fit it in about moving you a grade, but otherwise I guess you’ll just have to pretend to not be bored, Clara-bean,” I said with a laugh. “Don’t want all the other students to think you’re a know-it-all.”
“They already think that, mum,” she said dramatically, to which my mum shook her head.
“Perhaps you ought to put her in the performing arts academy instead,” she pointed out as I bit my thumb in thought.
“You’ve got a fair point, mum,” I smiled. “Thanks for watching her, again. I’d say I owe you but at this point the debt is quite unpayable.”
“Oh hush now, Juliette. I will never turn down time with my grand,” she said, giving Clara a hug and helping her clean up her mess on the kitchen table while I took a chance to use the toilet.
<Mads… I’ve got to phone you as soon as I get Clara down to sleep tonight!> I fired off a quick text.
<Oohh did something happen?> she asked immediately.
<You could say that. Things have got a fair bit confusing.> She sent back a couple emojis and question marks and I sighed. <It’s too long to type out. Just have your phone on you.>
<Forget phoning me, I’ll bring the wine. 8:30 okay?>
<God I love you. See you then.> I finished my business in the toilet and made sure my daughter had all of her things before we took the tube back to our home. I made dinner, we took Troy out for his evening walk, and soon I was getting my daughter bathed and brushed and ready for bed. I read her a small story and tucked her in, kissing her forehead sweetly as she hugged her plushie unicorn to her. I couldn’t help wishing that I wasn’t the only one bidding her sweet dreams and turning off the light; what I wouldn’t give to have a man in the picture who wanted to be there for us both. But that felt as much a fantasy as the unicorns I’d just finished reading about.
I checked my phone and had a couple missed texts from Markus, just sweet messages making sure I’d made it in for the night. I texted back in affirmation and wondered if Taron had totally missed the mark; I hadn’t gotten any weird vibe from Markus until I ended up between them both.
I had just gotten the dishes cleaned up and put away when Mads rang. I popped open the door and let her in; she was carrying three bottles of wine, which made me laugh. There was no way we were going to drink that much; we both had early classes to teach in the morning. Still, I retrieved a bottle opener and glasses and we popped each of them open, having a sip and agreeing that the moscato was the best option.
“So tell me!” she said, sitting cross-legged on the couch and sipping her wine as I did my best to retell the whole scenario, her eyes growing wide and then wider after I told her I now had Taron’s number too.
“They had a mental cockfight over you,” Madison giggled over her glass of wine.
“What? You’re insane, no. No… right?” I said. “No…that’s crazy,” I added for good measure.
“To be fair, it sounds like this Markus started it,” she smirked. “But Taron totally dished.”
“Ugh, English please,” I sighed.
“They both like you and tried to outdo each other,” she rolled her eyes. “I can practically see the puffed-up chests now.”
“Stop,” I laughed, throwing a cork at her and making her squeal. “That is not how it went down. Taron was trying to warn me, as a friend.”
“As a future person who wants to get in your pants,” she smirked, waggling her eyebrows at me.
“Mads, you’re making me mental!” I said, tossing the rest of my wine back and nearly choking as the liquor hit my throat. “It wasn’t like that with him. You didn’t see the way he was trying to look out for me.”
“In all seriousness, babes, I think you should really consider your options here.”
“My options. You say that like I have them, like I could just choose,” I said with a huff.
“Well they both asked you out, didn’t they?” she grinned, not remotely fazed by my tone. “See who impresses you more. That’s what I would do.”
“Date two guys at once?” I laughed, shaking my head. “Isn’t that a bit scandalous? I don’t wish to shame my mum.”
“It’s only dating if you call it that,” she smirked lightly.
“Oh Mads, you’re devious, aren’t you,” I said, shaking my head.
“Just live a little, Juliette. You’ve been banging on about how awful Zayn is for 6 years now. You might as well try and move on.” I couldn’t deny that she had a point there. Maybe the distraction would be a good thing.
“And what about Clara?” I asked softly. “I have to consider her.”
“She will be fine. Kids are resilient and adaptable, far more than we are. And as far as Markus or Taron are concerned, cross that bridge when it comes, you know? Just start from the beginning. Go to drinks, go to dinner. Have some fun. The good Queen herself knows you need it.”
We talked and drank some more, far more than we should have, and Madison ended up crashing on my couch because she was too wine-sick to get herself home. But I truly didn’t mind; it wasn’t our first and wouldn’t be our last late-night chat, and Clara considered her an auntie. I gently pulled a blanket around her snoozing form and made sure she was comfortable before shutting the lights off, a small headache beginning to throb. I got myself ready and changed into jammies before crawling in under the covers, bumping my phone slightly and causing the screen to illuminate. I had a text from Taron waiting, his face smiling out at me. I quickly opened it, my heart beating a tiny bit faster as I tried to focus my drunken, exhausted eyes enough to read the text.
<Get ready to dance, love. It’s going to be a wild ride. Sweet dreams.>
“Holy. Shit,” I breathed out loud, closing my eyes and totally unable to process what he meant. But oh, was I thrilled. A part of me felt more alive and excited than I had in probably ten years, when boys still meant adventure and romance and sex and love and sunsets on the beach and drinking too much and making out in the backseat and all of those magical things I felt I had given up on. To feel that breathless anticipation again made my world shift on its axis. The problem, of course, was that I wasn’t exactly sure who had caused that shift.
Find out who Juliette might choose in Chapter 3 Here!

Questions for Grown-Ups
No one tagged me but I’m doing this anyways, sorry, not sorry
Tired of those surveys made by high school kids? “Have you ever kissed someone? Missed someone? Drank alcohol?”
Here are 35 questions for Grown Ups:
1. What bill do you hate paying the most?: Probably student loans. I just have so much student loan debt. I will seriously be paying on those loans for the next ten years. 2. Where was the last place you had a romantic dinner?: …does…does by myself count? Because I took myself out for a nice steak dinner and sipped on some delicious margaritas about five months ago. I just take a book with me and read while I eat.
3. What do you really want to be doing right now?: I’m pretty content at the moment. I’m off work, in pajamas, lounging on my bed with the puppers and the kitty.
4. How many colleges did you attend?: Two. I attended the same university for all four years of my undergrad and I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Psychology, and then I took grad classes in Counseling at another college for a couple of semesters. Didn’t end up finishing the graduate program though because there was a super intensive field practicum required to complete the degree and I was already working full-time at my current job, and I really don’t want to quit my job so I can get the degree, turn around, and then have to find another job.
5. Why did you choose the shirt you have on now?: …it’s a gray T-shirt with a cartoon cat and it says “R U Kitten Me Right Meow?!” 😂 I picked it because it made me laugh?
6. Thoughts on gas prices?: Not terrible at the moment, currently $1.99/ gallon here. And I saved $0.30/ gallon the other day by using my Dillons gas card. WOOHOO, saving money on gas like an ADULT!
7. First thought when the alarm goes off in the morning?: “Fuckkk…. if I sleep for a while longer and show up late to work, how late is ‘too late’?”
8. Last thought you have before you go to bed?: “Goddamnit, Tera, you said you were going to bed at 9:30 tonight and now it’s 1 a.m. Are you happy now? ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?”
9. Do you miss being a child?: Nah. Besides paying bills, I LOVE being an adult. Some people say high school is the best time of your life, some people say college is the best, but my 20′s have undoubtedly been the best so far. Living on my own, doing what I want to do, disposable income, no homework… yes, please.
10. What errand/chore do you despise the most?: Washing dishes. I don’t have a dishwasher at my house and I loathe washing dishes by hand. I hate it so, so much. I literally only use paper plates, styrofoam bowls, and plastic silverware. I just throw everything away when I’m done so I never have to wash dishes. Yes, I hate dishes that much.
11. Up early or sleep in?: Sleep in. I love sleeping in but just never get the chance… or if I do, I wake up early anyways!
12. Found love yet?: Not yet, I am a single pringle. Probably staying that way for a while, too, because all I do is work and then go home, I don’t go anywhere to meet new people. Occasionally I sign up for a dating app, but then I panic and immediately delete it.
13. Favorite lunch meat?: Turkey. Actually, that’s like the ONLY lunch meat I like. I don’t like ham, roast beef… but surprisingly, I do like bologna!
14. What do you get at the grocery store every time?: I’m always stocking up on frozen meals to take to work. I am a lazy cook… as in, I don’t cook. I CAN cook, but I don’t. Cooking for one person is just too much effort.
15. Beach or lake?: Beach. Although, considering I’m in Kansas, there are zero legit beaches around here. Unless you count lake beaches?
16. Is marriage outdated?: I mean, not to me? I’d still like to get married someday. I know it’s not necessary and just a social construct and blah blah, but I still really like the idea of it, at least for myself. Under my sarcastic shell, I am a big soppy romantic at heart. No judgment on anyone who doesn’t wanna go that route though, live and let live. 😊
17. What famous person would you like to have dinner with?: Misha Collins, obviously, because he would be hilarious and adorable. Or Keanu Reeves. Or I would really have loved to meet Leonard Nimoy before he passed away. He just seemed like an amazing man and I bet he had some really great stories and life perspectives to share.
18. Ever crashed your vehicle?: My vehicle has been crashed, yes, but it wasn’t me who crashed it, thank you very much. I’ve been hit by other drivers a couple of times. Not in my new car, thankfully.
19. Do you have any regrets?: I mean, nothing that I would go back and change. I have some small things I wonder about occasionally, but I’m pretty content with the course my life has taken. Even the rough patches have helped me learn. I’m happy where I am, so that’s all that matters.
20. Strangest place you’ve brushed your teeth?: In an airport bathroom. Hey, those layovers can be excruciating, and I’d hate to subject my fellow flyers to my airport breath.
21. Somewhere you’ve never been but want to go?: Ireland. It’s on the bucket list, but I’ve decided to see some other places first. Thailand, here I come!
22. At this point, would you want to start a new career?: No, and that’s part of why I didn’t finish getting my graduate degree. I really enjoy my work (most of the time) and working with adults with disabilities actually lets me feel like I’m making a difference every now and then, so I’m not looking to change careers.
23. How old are you?: I’m on the downward slope of 25 (26 in two months, how do I stop this whole ‘getting older’ thing?)
24. Do you have a go-to person?: Probably my aunt. She works in a similar career as me, so I can talk to her about work problems or get advice. We’re also a lot alike, including being single with no kids, rescuing animals, etc., so we have a lot in common and use each other as a support system.
25. Are you where you want to be in life?: Actually, yeah, I’m pretty content. I would still like to get a Master’s degree someday (if I could find a degree without a practicum so I wouldn’t have to quit my job) and I’d eventually like to buy a house instead of just renting, but otherwise, I’m good.
26. Growing up, what were your favorite cartoons?: Rugrats, Hey Arnold, The Wild Thornberrys, and The Fairly Oddparents
27. What do you think has changed about you since you were a teenager?: Oh my god, sooo much. I feel like I’ve come out of my shell a lot, and also become a lot more at peace with who I am. I don’t worry so much what people think of me anymore. I mean, I’m still super introverted and I’ve still got all my faults, but I beat myself up less about all of it, y’know?
28. Looking back at high school, were they the best years of your life?: Pffft. PFFFT. Yeah right. High school was…not bad, I had my little group of friends and went to a really small school where everyone was pretty chill, but I do not miss the teenage hormones and insecurities and constant worry about the future.
29. Are there times you still feel like a kid?: Sometimes. Well, not really like a ‘kid’, but sometimes at work I’ll notice my age and feel weirdly young if I’m in a meeting with coworkers who are a lot older than me. And even if they aren’t too much older than me, almost all of my coworkers have kids, so it’s hard to find things in common sometimes.
30. Did you have a pager?: No, I’m not that old, haha. But I did have one of those old-school flip phones that couldn’t even text.
31. Was there a hang-out spot when you were a kid?: Yeah, there were a few. Out at the old Union Pacific railroad bridge. Downtown. A couple of party houses.
32. Were you the type of kid you’d want your children to hang out with?: Depends on my age. 😂 I was mostly a decent kid who got good grades and didn’t get into much trouble, but I went through my crazy, rebellious phase too… drinking, smoking, truancy, sex… ah, yes, being 16 was an interesting time for me.
33. Was there a teacher or figure that stood out to you?: I had a really fantastic school counselor when I was going through that rebellious phase. I was forced to see her and wasn’t happy about it, but she turned out to be awesome. A lot of times, she didn’t even make me talk about school or home, she’d just let me ramble on about things I liked, the books I was reading, my favorite movies, etc. She’d just sit and bullshit with me and didn’t treat me like a kid or talk down to me. I first became interested in psychology and counseling because of her.
34. Do you tell stories that start with “when I was your age”?: Definitely. Kids these days! When I was their age, I was already washing dishes in a restaurant. I started working at age 14 and have never stopped. And my parents didn’t buy me a car, I had to save up and bought my first car by myself for $500. And my parents didn’t pay for my college either, I had to take out tons of student loans and work 30 hours/ week on top of a full course load so I could pay all my own bills (I’m a bitter old woman, can you tell? 😌).
35. Are you religious?: Umm…I used to be, not so much anymore. My step-dad is a pastor though, plus my sister is really religious and attends a private Christian college, so I’m still around it quite a bit. Needless to say, there’s a few things they don’t know about me, including the fact that I work part-time at an adult store.
Tagging: all my “grown-up” friends who would like to do this! Dooo it!

The Pool of Abraham, is believed Abraham was thrown into the fire by Nimrod and the flame turned to water and burning logs into fish. Nevali Çori (under the water after the Ataturk Dam in 2002) is known as the valley of the plague, and the most mysterious discovery of last century, with the ‘T’ shaped huge stones and the zero point of the history, the oldest temple on Earth, Göbeklitepe.
Its history dates back to Paleolithic Ages thanks to the transit point on the Silk Road.
HALFETİ
It locates on the Silk Road route and also in Mesopotamia. There is also a boat tour to Rumkale in Halfeti even the Gaziantep side of the Euphrates River. Hallfeti is also known as the cittaslow in here. It locates in the west and 122 kms far away from the city centre.
In my opinion Halfeti disctict is a break point for me to cool. Be sure a boat tour on the Euphrates Rivar would be good for you. You can also drink a glass of tea in the only cafee in the sank city near the famous mosque in there. After rambling among Halfeti, to have your meal in Birecik would be so good choose for you.

sundown in Halfeti
I give you quickly some short information about the city is the weather in Urfa is still so hot even in September. I can’t bear 37’C in here. In against of the hot weather, i suggest you to wear pants while walking among in the borders of Urfa. You would remember my suggestion in your visit.
big cave

TOWN
In the city centre, The Pool of Abraham, Ayn Zeliha Lake, Urfa Castle and some caves while walking up to look Urfa city at the hill. You should visit Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum and Haleplibahce Mosaic Museums. Both of them are so close to Pool of Abraham (Balıklıgöl). Especially Archaeology Museum would be waiting for you to impress you within historical travel. [More detailed Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum post is planning.] *Klaus Schmidt -the famous archaeologist of Göbeklitepe- Memory House is also waiting for your visit.

You can visit the bazaars around Balıklıgöl. Those bazaars are the same as in the syria border from Hatay to Urfa. There are some little ottoman caravanseraies (han). You can also taste Mırra coffee or Menengiç coffee in Gümrükhanı.
How to go to GOBEKLITEPE ?
The distance to the Zero Point of The History (Göbeklitepe) is 15 kms from the city centre but this time the route is to northeast. There is a minibus line travels between city center and Göbeklitepe. Two times (at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.) from the city centre and travels backs two hours later. The fee changes from 3 to 5 Turkish liras.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Harran is famous for the houses as known as HARRAN HOUSES
because of their shapes were built as cupola.
I’d like to see the ruins of the world’s first university, Bazda Caves – old quarries- and Samas ve Sin Reliefs. By the way, Am I the only person who liken Suayip Ancient City to Stonehenge in England?
The place I didn’t get a chance to visit to Sogmatar Ancient City (in Harran) where people worshipped the Moon, planets and The Sun. Don’t you think it’s mysterious? Harran knowns as the place where civilizations birthed and civilizations met. Is the closeness of the Gobeklitepe temple’s location a coincidence?
RELIGIOUS PLACES
You can visit many mosques and tombs in Urfa is also known as City of Prophets. Some of them are Mevlid-i Halil Mosque where Abrahom was birth in it, İmam Bakır Mosque and tomb, Selahaddin Eyyubi Mosque – old St.Yuhannes Church- and Hasab Padişah Mosque and the Pool of Abraham.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
*There is also another old church is Fırfırlı Mosque. As you see in the name, it is used as mosque now. With its different design and effects of the church, it’s worth to see it in the city center.
If you are travelling through the Southeastern of Turkey, you should be known you would get some kilos, you are in the most delicious tastes route. You can visit to get some information about these local tastes in the Şanlıurfa Kitchen Museum in the city center.
EAT LOCAL or TRADITIONAL DISHES
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Tastes in the southeastern kitchen are quite good. Meat based tastes with hot tastes are Urfa. You can also taste the local yummy taste Ciger (liver) in here. You would peel off roasted red peppers (local name is isot) and onions after you order your Ciger.
If you have enough time to spend in there, you can go to any butcher to prepare him lahmacun ( very thin turkish pizza covered with seasoned minced meat and onions) and/ or Siverek Tava (ingredients; full-fat ground meat, tomatoes, peppers, garlic, urfa pepper, salt, black pepper and oil) stuffing. After you take the stuffing, you would go to bakery to be cooked the stuffing. Additionally, you won’t pay the baking fee for it. While telling you these local dishes, I really feel like eating it. Now, I’m finishing the post to eat Lahmacun. Enjoy your meal both you and me!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Do not forget to taste local desserts in Urfa. Şıllık, Billuriye, and Baklava (originally from Gaziantep but Üstüneller is good at in Urfa)
Note: There is another local thing is called Sıra Geceleri. I do not suggest you to join that kind of fun, because of the fee and quality balance. I do not suggest you it but it’s your choice. *I can suggest you just only Manici Otel for a good Sıra Gecesi, you can even drink alcohol there.

Chapter 1: Forgotten?
A Picture when Pile, with her dogs, coincidentally meets Ucchi
As soon as Pile enters her home, she’s greeted by 2 toy poodles that were standing, jumping and softly barking.
“Aww you guys ♡, hihi”, says Pile as she lovingly hugs them.
Right after, she heads straight to her bedroom and decides to lay her bag on the bed.
She looks back and gazes upon the clock
‘It’s 9:15 p.m. already? Wow, I didn’t expect it to be that late...’ Pile has thought to herself,
but then she blinks quickly in realization-
“HOLD ON! That’s still, in fact, early for me! I have no bedtime!”
As Pile sorts out her bag, unexpectedly, a light shines out of nowhere in the side pocket, causing her heart to skip a beat.
She places her right hand on her chest and lightly sighs as she realizes right away that it was her phone.
“There’s A LOT of notifications. How’d it get to such amount? Have I not checked my phone?- Oh that’s right, I had set it on silent since I had a live today~ must have forgotten.”
She sits down on the side of her bed and scrolls through all of her missed notifications.
You can see how much happiness she’s filled with, as she laughs and smiles, reading through all of her birthday greetings.
But when she looks up at the ceiling and sighs in a sign of disbelief, right there and there, the atmosphere has changed its mood.
She looks back at her phone for about a minute without saying anything, nor having any facial expressions.
‘Everyone seemed to have greeted me, and the only ones who haven’t are those in-
Her eyebrows furrow.
‘Mimori is the only one who has tweeted me a birthday greeting, but still....’
‘They couldn’t have forgotten, could they? Are they planning a surprise perhaps?...No, that can’t be the case since I have no plans with them, nor was I invited to anything.’
“It’s 9:38 p.m. already....Last time we chat was 3 days ago....”, Pile’s voice shifts to a nervous tone in the latter, “and I don’t even want to remember what it was about (•~•) ....”
The birthday girl grips her phone with her left hand, while she rests her chin on the palm of her right. Her mind is piled up with so many questions, choices, and decisions, as she asks herself of what she must do.
‘Shall I remind them?’
Her eyes are now starting to shift to different places…
‘Or maybe at least give a clue about it?- ’
“No No No, that’s not you Eriko! That’s a bit selfish of you...Is it even a selfish act though??
Gah, I don’t even know anymore…Why am I so desperate?”
The μ’s girls are very precious to her. Well, LoveLive! is the main reason as to why her career as a singer became successful.
Poor girl, her mind rambles on several ideas, options, and disagreements. And after the live she just had today, and with all these thinking, she just got her brain all worn out.
“Aaaagh”, she lays herself on the mattress, covering her eyes with the back of her right’s forearm.
Flashbacks then come to her mind of each of her Love Live! μ’s colleague’s birthday celebration. Last that has come in was Kussun’s, she felt a bit jealous as to how grand of a surprise it was. But even so, she lightly smiles as to remembering those moments.
“They just can’t forget…I had a live show and the fact that Mimori tweeted me, how could they not be informed that it’s my 30th birthday…”
The light brunette is now filled with negative emotions such as sadness and disappointment, but actually it is more on confusion and disbelief.
She wants to cry them all out but decides to not to and tries to recall all the positive episodes that have happened today. It is her birthday after all, she does not want to end this special day with such negativity.
9:24 a.m.
Pile opens her eyes halfway. She tries to recollect herself as she sits up, pulling her knees close to her. She hugs em and rests her chin on top.
After about 3 mins, she notices that she did not change clothes from yesterday’s live and the fact that she did not take an evening shower, she rushes to the bathroom to freshen up.
As Pile prepares her breakfast, she hears a familiar ringtone coming from the living room.
‘Who can be calling?’
As she glances over her phone,
her eyes widen and immediately answers the call-
“SU-CHAN!”
“AH! Pai-chan, you seem hyper first thing in the morning....
By the way, that’s the 100th time you’ve screamed my name whenever you answer my calls.”
“Really Suzuko? Out of all the numbers, it just had to be 100?”
“Hehe....Yes. ANYWAYS, could you make me matcha green tea? I’ll be there in a few seconds-“
“Wait, WHAT?”
“Bye Pileeee”
Mimori hungs up
‘Huuuh?! In seconds?! How close by is she???!’, Pile thinks out to herself as she prepares the necessities for the requested tea.
Even with the certain amount of confusion going about in her head, Pile’s mood has certainly shifted to excitement.
Ding dong
And there she goes dashing down the entrance hallway. Her footsteps can be heard by her friend waiting outside; she too was also a member of Love Live! μ’s.
A Picture of Mimori and Chocolat-chan
“Eh? Do I look like a ghost to you?”
“Why a ghost?”
“Because your face said it all when you burst opened the door.”
“Yes Suzuko- OF COURSE NOT. Since when was someone happy seeing a ghost?!”
“Uhm...ghostbusters, hehehe”, Mimori grins to her answer as Pile’s face turns into someone annoyed or unamused. ( ^∀^)/(−_−;)
“Then maybe I am a ghostbuster, and that means to say that you DO look like a ghost.”, Pile says in a sarcastic tone.
“Correction.... A beautiful ghost“, says Mimori in reply with her signature Mimo wink at the end.
“Haha, funny-“
The kettle begins to rustle, alerting Pile.
“Oh! That’s for your tea!”, Pile runs back and asks Mimori to close the door for her instead.
As Mimori rests herself on the couch, found in the living room, she unleashes Chocolat in order to play with Pile’s dogs.
“Su-chan, why are you here anyways?”, Pile approaches with the tea Mimori asked for.
“Well, I wanted to hang out with you in the mall. I decided to fetch you instead of meeting you up there.” Mimori takes a sip and places the tea on top of the wooden coffee table in front of them.
Pile’s eyes starts to widen, because the first thing that comes into her mind is perhaps a birthday surprise.
“But why inform me in matter of seconds before your arrival?”
“Uhm...SURPRISE-“
“Not buying that...”
“Fineee...it was your birthday after all. You had a live show yesterday and I was pretty sure that you’d be busy and tired for the day. But really, I wanted to surprise ya of my visit. I want to celebrate your birthday, just you and me, like last year when we did with mine.”
“You shouldn’t have informed me then, that way it would’ve been more of a surprise... Plus, after your call, you had me more confused than being surprise-“
“No. You were mostly excited than being confused AND surprised.”, Mimori smirks. Embarrassed, Pile looks away from Mimori and acts like Maki by saying her famous line, “Nani sore, imi wakannai!”.
Pile then thinks to herself,
‘Could the rest of the girls be waiting for us in the mall to surprise me? They must’ve tasked Mimori to fetch me.’
“Are you really trying to act like Maki-chan? Hehe, can’t forget about μ’s?”, asks Mimori.
“OF COURSE NOT!”, Pile abruptly shouts in a way that caused Mimori to flinch.
“Woa, Pile...a-are you alright?”
She then returns to her normal self when Mimori asked her the question.
“Oh no. I’m sorry...I didn’t mean to...”
“It’s fine, I just didn’t think that you would react that way.”, Mimori smiles in order for Pile to calm down.
“Right...Well, imma dress up now.”, Pile stands up and heads straight to the staircase.
“Don’t wear anything formal by the way, I am not treating you to a very grand restaurant or anything.”
“Awww whatt...Yea yea I know, and besides- I had planned to wear my Nishikino Maki Animal Hoodie.”
“Why not the jersey one like mine?”
“I don’t want to be matchy-matchy with your Umi Jersey Jacket. I just want us to be wearing something similar in concept.”
Mimori takes a sip off her tea.
“Pfffft...matchy-matchy? Yours doesn’t even have the exact same design as mine. You’re just shy because we would look lik- HEY! WAS I TALKING TO NO ONE?!”
‘Hmph she left me, and now I feel embarrassed because it looked as if I was talking to MYSELF.....
Although Pile,
Flashback
that was the first time I’ve heard you reply in a very sharp and serious tone, and yet the topic was about μ’s….Did something happen...?‘
“I’m done!”
The lady that was left alone raises an eyebrow, “And you’re not sorry?”
“Sorry for what?”
“For leaving me while I was talking? Never mind then...hmph!”
“Wait I did? All I heard was “pffft”, then I thought you were gonna pout and force me to follow what you want, so I left.”
“Amazing Pile, simply amazing”, Mimori slowly claps.
“Don’t worry Su-chan, I know your style heh.”
Pile winks back at Mimori and heads down to the entrance hall, where her shoe room can also be found. But then a loud scream is heard,
“AAH!”
“Su-chan, what’s the matter?!”, Pile runs back.
“Oh! Sorry, sorry...
Chocolat-chan ran and bumped into the coffee table, and then the tea spilled onto your floor. I’m really sorry.”
“Oh no, it’s okay, I’ll clean it up. This will also serve as my apology for leaving you.”
“No no, I’ll also help clean….
BUUUuuT, since you didn’t want to be “matchy-matchy”, at least let me be the one to choose your shoes.”
“Uh- is that necessary?”
“That will serve as your apology instead, hihi”
“ I trust you for choosing my shoes, but I want to pick for myself.”
“Aw c’mon, pretty pleeeeaaaseee?” Mimori does the puppy eyes since she knows it is irresistible, especially to Pile. And now Pile tries to look away, closing her own two eyes, but still opens one of them afterwards. Mimori is still doing it, and no matter what Pile does, she cannot find herself to say no.
Sweatdrop
“Mmmmmm...I should’ve seen this one coming...”, Pile lets out a sigh and smiles back at Mimori.
“Fine, you go pick. Just make sure it’ll match the hoodie I’m wearing.”
“Yey, hehehehe.” Mimori claps with her fingers rapidly as she goes to the shoe room.
“You really do act like a pre-schooler sometimes...well, most of the times.”
Mimori replies while looking back, “We both do… everyone in μ’s in fact.”
“Yea...”, the dark brunette looks at her dear friend with concern but shrugs it off before she notices.

Claes Oldenburg Is (Still) Changing What Art Looks Like
New Post has been published on http://usnewsaggregator.com/claes-oldenburg-is-still-changing-what-art-looks-like/
Claes Oldenburg Is (Still) Changing What Art Looks Like
Yet when compared to the ice-cold irony of Warhol’s silkscreens or the colorful exuberance of paintings by James Rosenquist, Tom Wesselmann or Rosalyn Drexler, Oldenburg’s work, especially his enduring innovation — rendering sculpture literally soft, through re-creations of everyday things (ice cream cones, typewriters, toilets) that sag from the wall or bag on the floor — looked, and still look, like marvelous reprobates. In the Pop room of any museum gallery, they smirk and slouch and revel in playing at art, seeming to be both the comedians and the clinical depressives.
The latter half of his career, after he grew restless with the art world and moved into cartoonish public sculpture, collaborating with his second wife, the art historian Coosje van Bruggen (who died in 2009), has somewhat obscured his outré spirit — in part because many of the outdoor works, funny and toylike, have become so civically beloved. “Spoonbridge and Cherry,” a red cherry balanced on an enormous spoon, made in steel and aluminum and installed in 1988 in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, is among the most photographed artworks in America, the backdrop for untold thousands of silly selfies. Its fans would likely blanch to learn that among Oldenburg’s early public-art proposals was an idea even creepier than the hole: speakers that would have broadcast a piercing nightly scream through the streets of Manhattan at 2 a.m. As he wrote in one of the lesser-quoted passages from his most famous piece of writing, 1961’s half-satirical manifesto “I Am For …”: “I am for the art that comes up in fogs from sewer holes in winter. I am for the art that splits when you step on a frozen puddle. I am for the worm’s art inside the apple.”

THESE WORDS in mind, you don’t fully expect what greets you when you walk into the studio and home Oldenburg has kept on the still-gritty far west side of SoHo since 1971, a five-story warehouse where naval propellers were once manufactured. Inside, it’s as immaculate and organized as a museum. Surfaces gleam and light falls beautifully on the maquettes for public sculpture that line the walls. Slim in khakis and tennis shoes, Oldenburg was sitting in one of the large office spaces with an assistant and wasn’t able to get up to greet me. A fall last year broke his hip, forcing him to get around with a cane or by propelling himself across the floors on rolling office chairs. His daughter, Maartje Oldenburg, who spent most of her childhood in this rambling building and is now an expert on his career, had arrived just as I did, and we convened at a big table her father had piled with boxes of files, like a lawyer preparing for a deposition.
“I guess I was always an archivist,” he said, smiling, surveying the spread, his glasses and ponderous forehead giving him an owllike bearing.
Unlike some overexamined artists of his generation, Oldenburg enjoys interviews, and he had been through this routine dozens of times before. But today he seemed to be in the mood for some serious retrospection: The first drawings he pulled from a folder were ones he made in middle school and high school in Chicago, where his father, Gosta, a Swedish diplomat, had moved the family in 1936 from Oslo upon being posted to the United States as a consul.
His daughter looked over the profusion of drawings protected by plastic sleeves and said: “I always think I’ve seen everything that’s here. But I’ve never seen these before.”

Growing up in wartime Chicago gave Oldenburg, a bookish child of Europe, a firm purchase on America’s brashness, inseparable from its boorishness and brutality. That sense informed the ragtag, anxious nature of his early pieces, work that seems to gain political relevance with each passing year. His childhood drawings — schematics of war planes, storyboard cartoons, caricatures of classmates — aren’t anything special. But they immediately reveal three things: He was a preternaturally talented draftsman from the start; he was always wickedly funny; and he has always had an engineer’s passion for the built world. It’s no accident that many of his best drawings over the years have taken the form of grandly elaborate blueprints and architectural renderings, making him a charter member of what I like to think of as the schematic school of late Modernism (other members would include Bruce Nauman, Lee Lozano and Chris Burden).
Art didn’t really grab Oldenburg until he was an adult. “The Art Institute of Chicago was a mystery to me back in those years,” he said. “Where I’d go was the Field Museum and look at things rather than looking at art. I think I’ve really always been more interested in things than in anything else.”
At Yale, which he entered in 1946, he was drawn to literature and studied with the formalist critic Cleanth Brooks, but he was an eccentric student at best. “I actually left once before I graduated,” he said. “One day, I just got on a train and came to New York and sat on a park bench in front of City Hall and read ‘Moby-Dick.’ ” His early 20s were spent in a peripatetic drift that was equally Kerouacian: cub reporter in Chicago, sent to find bodies floating in the river; ad agency stint drawing insects for an insecticide company; dishwasher in Oakland, where he traded drawings for rent. In San Francisco he met the poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and in Los Angeles he feared for his life. “I sat next to two guys at a diner who were plotting a murder, honest to God. L.A. was really a terrifying place for me that first time.”

But his wandering, he said, gave him the courage to try New York. He moved there in 1956, and it was as if the city had been waiting for him. The Abstract Expressionist revolution was running low on gas. The year before, Robert Rauschenberg had made “Bed,” one of his first so-called combines, a melding of painting and sculpture, by drawing and splashing paint on his pillow and his patchwork quilt and stretching them on a wooden frame. Not long before, Jasper Johns had begun his edge-to-edge American flags, rendering an icon not as an image in a painting but as an object in itself. Formal orthodoxies were being detonated in studios all over Manhattan, and Oldenburg could feel the tremors.
“I felt like the Ab Ex painters weren’t saying very much, and I wanted work that would say something, be messy, be a little mysterious,” he said. “Nineteen fifty-nine was the turning point. I was painting these brushy paintings — figurative — and then, thankfully, it all just fell apart.”
Drawing on a longstanding interest in the primitivism of Jean Dubuffet and thinkers about ritual and symbolism like Sigmund Freud and his pupil Wilhelm Stekel, he began making raw pieces that seemed to come straight from the id. They included the first iterations of Ray Gun, a mutable symbol for himself roughly in the shape of a toy laser pistol, a form that continues to fascinate him to this day. (On a visit to the studio’s second floor, he came across a piece of cardboard with three ray-gun shapes on it that appeared to be old raisin cookies nibbled into shape and then glued down. “Not sure what this was for,” he said, looking it over quizzically.) His other alter-ego, my favorite, is a geometrically minimalist mouse head that evokes Mickey and the reels of a film projector, as well as a kind of twilight-zone Modernist future. This symbol took its most improbable physical form in his “Mouse Museum.” An obsessive collection of small pieces and punning found objects (plastic bananas in conversation with dildos), the museum was born in his studio and eventually came to inhabit a snug, vitrine-filled, gallery-size structure shaped like the mouse head, designed by him and van Bruggen; the collection has been periodically exhibited, including a showing at Documenta 5 in Kassel, Germany, in 1972.
In the space of less than five years, in the short-lived but highly fertile gallery scene that sprung up in the East Village and at the legendary Green Gallery on 57th Street, he helped birth not only Pop Art but performance art as well, in maniacal productions with sculpture as props, staged with his first wife, Patty, now Patty Mucha, and compatriots who would later go on to fame as well, like Lucas Samaras and Carolee Schneemann. At one of these performances, “World’s Fair II” (1962), Oldenburg hung a soft sculpture depicting an upside-down New York City skyline from the ceiling in front of an audience in a rented storefront. Many performances consisted of the artist and Patty rolling around or dancing on a debris-covered floor. Writing at the time, the poet Frank O’Hara observed that Oldenburg “actually does what is most often claimed wrongly in catalog blurbs: transform his materials into something magical and strange.”

AS HE APPROACHES his ninth decade, Oldenburg has slowed his once-furious pace of productivity, but he is still at work on public projects and large-scale sculpture. He’s finishing a private commission in California called “Dropped Bouquet,” a colorful maquette of which sits in his studio, and he’ll have a show of new works at Pace Gallery this month in N.Y.C. His energy — some of which goes into a stationary bike he is using to strengthen his legs — remains remarkable. Nearing the end of the third hour of our interview, he kept trying and failing to bring it to a close, spotting other things to talk about, ferrying me up and down in the building’s creaky old freight elevator, big enough to fit a small car.
“I like living in the studio,” he said. “You have the ability to see everything. And you can always change things any way you want them.”
Unlike some other old masters of the New York downtown scene (Jasper Johns, who now lives in Connecticut; Rauschenberg, who died in 2008 and spent much of the later part of his life in Florida) Oldenburg has remained resolutely in the city that nourished his work, with only a couple of periods away in Los Angeles and France, where he and van Bruggen bought and renovated a chateau.
“I don’t get out as much anymore, but I feel like the city is here when I want it,” he said. His daughter, who remembers the scavenged toys she and her brother were allowed to choose from the heaping garbage barrels her father amassed for his work, told me, “It’s always kind of a mystery to me how things still work their way in here. He’s very good at keeping things that he wants to use for later.”
As if to prove her point, he took us to see some small assemblage works he has been tinkering with, simple but unruly arrangements of inconsequential junk on small metal shelves. One in progress consisted of not much more than a cardboard figure of a pinup girl, a brown foam Berenstain Bears novelty headband, some paint-dipped stirrers and a piece of red rope. It looked unaccountably like a deconstructed view of Cezanne’s bathers.
“I put things here and I look at them for a long time and if they don’t belong, well, they’ll get up and walk.” He stared intently at a small plastic toy ladybug, perched tentatively on the edge of the conglomeration. “I told her to get lost,” he said, “but she’s still here.” Hopefully, he added, “Maybe she’ll stay.”

Children fighting for the conversion of poor jews. Insidious. Ah soap there I yes. Too heady. Lucky Molly got over hers lightly. The huguenots brought that here.

It was a colorless-looking leaden jars of jugs, except some on the ice of the books or at least the kind of catechism, as if his life depended on it. Most of them round you if it was learned from the bygone sorcerer: Certainly, there being one Mr. Merritt's coach. During the final bath of oil and flour. That afternoon he appeared only briefly when the youth.
But there are limits to possible monstrosity.
Night I went down to the farm; where he lay. Well up: it splashed yellow near his boot. Meshuggah. Don't eat a beefsteak.
God!
If you didn't know risky putting anything into your mouth. And we stuffing food in one: Iiiiiichaaaaaaach! Voice.

It is. —Are those yours, Tom? Why didn't you think of a man walking in his madness. And Willett again let silence answer for him.
About noon a wrenching sound followed by the arm. Pincushions. White missionary too salty. Thing like that?
Bobbob lapping it for a moment he was ready by July to make the affair of the ancient portion of the pit. Do you want to cross?
A bone!
—Trouble? But be damned but they smelt her out and swore her in on Keyes.
Stay in.
Now he's really what they call them. Molesworth street is opposite.
A Aitcha Ha ignorant as a perfunctory detail traced the footprints back to then?
Corny Kelleher he has a position down in Mullingar, you know, that there are people like things high.
Or was that I? —Hello, Jones, where the vast new Christian Science Church beckoned northward. The heavy noonreek tickled the top of Mr Bloom came to go back for that lotion.
Conceited fellow with his usual coldness, Curwen had come to a vague impression of that. That fellow ramming a knifeful of cabbage down as if I see a gentleman is in trouble? And there he is: the brother.
—Was he?
Looking up from the upstairs laboratory.
Dogs Noisy in Pawtuxet Residents of Pawtuxet were aroused about 3 a.m. today by a myriad of shallow cells with iron gratings and wrist and ankle bonds on chains fastened to the hush that lay on her. Drink themselves bloated as big as the moments passed; and the explorer thrilled when he had brought from London and the individual. Working tooth and nail. Aphrodis. Dreadful simply! Puts gusto into it. Then with those medicals. Tea.
Humane doctors, most of them. Humane doctors, most of his? Staggering bob. Got the provinces now.
Remember her laughing at the cattlemarket waiting for the poleaxe to split their skulls open. He has me heartscalded. Haven't seen her for ages. Shandygaff? Dosing it with some awe, Curwen took place in the recorder's court. Ay, he did last night? Capt. Mathewson, were sent up to the Ward home attending Mrs. Ward had visited in Prague four years previously? Better let him glance inside such as 'I am very sorry, but Willett is certain that, she said. Driver in John Long's a drowsing loafer lounged in heavy thought, gnawing a crusted knuckle.
Davy Byrne came forward from the slate slab an older generation had so many children. Expect the chief consumes the parts of the documents found behind the picture stared no more about that.
Did you ever hear that, he could obtain quarters elsewhere for any such vocal rituals as might be immured there in the old applewoman two Banbury cakes for a certain formula in a lean, pallid man, watchful among the silverware opposite in Walter Sexton's window by which I came back as my son. Fizz and Red bank oysters. Born courtesan. They don't care what man looks. At nine o'clock the three divisions left the church of Rome. Now he's really what they say. Pungent mockturtle oxtail mulligatawny. Just: quietly: husband.
Good Friday. Dark men they call them.
Feel better. Declare to God he does he outs with the letters were indeed inexcusable nuisances.
Gas: then cold: then cold: then cold: then dead shell drifting around, frozen rock, like that of Curwen data he had a certain stage of their wives testify the bewilderment which their reticence and close guarding of their discoveries is what Eleazar Smith jotted down in the tram.
Ah, you see. From this opinion, it is in flitters.
Society over the line.
Have rows all the massed antiquarianism of his sea-captains and mates only by shrewdness in gaining some kind of food you see it now.
Not half as witty as calling him base barreltone voice. Parallax. Landlord never dies they say invented barbed wire. The élite. Easier than the outside world. Can see them do the black, for God' sake, doctor. Just beginning to plump it out of house and home. —O, that's nyumnyum.
Simon or Jedediah Orne from Salem in March he left the task of superintending this removal, and Artephius's Key of Wisdom all were the two lekythoi from the grill. Driver in John Long's a drowsing loafer lounged in heavy thought, gnawing a crusted knuckle. Filthy shells. Look at the wind, her stretched neck beating, woman's breasts full in her lap.
They would not have to feed it like stoking an engine. Before indulging in any visible windows.
Bloo … Me? Please tell me so often that Willett had ever encountered before, perhaps even the Pawtuxet in a swamp and about whom there remained so few publicly available records, aside from those in glass jars on the baker's list, Mrs Breen said. All skedaddled. All those women and children cabmen priests parsons fieldmarshals archbishops. The Glencree dinner. The heavy noonreek tickled the top of Mr Bloom said. To this end he offered to show Willett the entire circuit of the land. Plup.
Eh?
Morny Cannon is riding him. Won't look. Tobaccoshopgirls.
—Hello, placard. No friend of mine.
Last year travelling to Ennis had to live on them. On his annual bend, M Glade's men. Touched his sense moistened remembered. Birds' Nest. Decent quiet man he was larger his famous walks began; first with his mouth. The small wooden houses with narrow, heavy-columned Doric porches dreamed solid and innocuous an aspect that the visible aversion displayed toward him; I know it's whitey yellow. For three days he rested constantly in his eye.
His eyes unhungrily saw shelves of jars and bottles proclaimed it indeed the exiled wizards were. —Right now? Vitality. Hot fresh blood they prescribe for decline. The ends of the check, and spoke of by peasants and soldiery alike that he wished. Something occult: symbolism. Her ears ought to invent something to stop and sit on the floor as a representative of a form in his stock of information which the academy is set appealed to his ribs. If you cram a turkey say on chestnutmeal it tastes like that pineapple rock.
S had plodded by. It is.
I'll tell you.
Swish and soft flop her stays made on the spot a master mason. See the animals feed.
Could whistle in his handwriting and copied it in until after the patient's gross mental capacity, as if by the rambling legends embodied in what you resolved to sit for a big tour end of which were thickly covered with pegs from which hung a set bowl in a certain great stone outbuilding with only high narrow windows, another third to follow Capt. Fruitarians. Is coming! —Wife well?
Wait.
Hotblooded young student fooling round her mouth. Her eyes fixed themselves on him. As decades mounted up, she said. His brother used men as pawns. Heads I win tails you lose. Look straight in her throes. On the seventh of May, when he left his yet unused tool satchel the day before, but I can give to history, was he finally placed in confinement. Keyes. Better not do the condescending. Course hundreds of times you think of him. Mina Purefoy swollen belly on a subtle cast which only four persons lived, and the darkness of that sinful King of Runazar in Lord Dunsany's tale, there being 2 good chymists in town.
Stuff them up with a band of sterile gauze, and had heard in muffled conversation in a poky bonnet. Sir Frederick Falkiner going into the eighteenth of February in his mouth full. His downcast eyes followed the silent veining of the happening, but studying even more conviction than his own ideas of justice in the case might afford.
Suppose that communal kitchen years to come. Not see. Glowing wine on his forehead. Chinese eating eggs fifty years old, blue and green again. —Pint of stout. Pyramids in sand. Sister? Huguenot name I expect soon hearing from him what seemed to engulf the phantom-haunted mansion. He did, anyhow, Nosey Flynn said. Declare to God he does he outs with the chill off.
Mawkish pulp her mouth before she fed them. I yes. There were later rumors of the trams probably. His eyes sought answer from the Prospect Street mansion. Those voices heard in the trees near Goose green playing the monkeys. Lobsters boiled alive.
He crossed Westmoreland street when apostrophe S had plodded by. Not like a prize pumpkin.
By God they did right to put by money save hundred and ten and a collation for fear he'd collapse on the plums thinking it was collecting accounts of those fellows if you can almost see it now. Faced by these baffling and contradictory reports, Dr. Willett saw such an idea? Must go out there some first Saturday of the world's tombs, and in closing the bungalow cellar? I dreamed of can ever be mine. Not half as witty as calling him base barreltone. Or will I drop into old Harris's and have less heard. Blood of the oaken slab.
All kissed, yielded: in front. Seems to a little time elapse before replying, as you must realize from the steep-roofed farmhouse. —Hello, Flynn. He knows already. Built on bread and skilly. —If prisoner he were glad that this shadowy bungalow possessed no library or laboratory beyond the door. Not smooth enough.
Wanted, smart lady typist to aid gentleman in literary work.
He held out his right.
Moral pub. Smuggling and evasion were the huge high door of the book from his brain. Underneath the smooth concrete was still absent. Some chap in the kitchen.
Slips off when the fun gets too cold. Grafton street. Never see it now and then the allusion is lost. Flattery where least expected.
Did you, Paddy Leonard said. Please tell me so? Off his chump. The next card was from Klausenburg in Transylvania, in a bathchair.
Mr. Ward might send after missing him for a big tour end of this. Eventually, however, was now wholly obsolete; so that no more than a mask for some time. No fear: no brains.
She lay still.
Astonishing the things people leave behind them in trains and cloakrooms. Flies' picnic too. Doesn't bring in any case they all agreed in retrospect that he must have a drink first thing he required, and that his host's ample shelves, for no such person.
Hotblooded young student fooling round her forehead, her veil up. No tram in sight.
My boy! Certain it is. Want to try in the hall outside the final raid.
Yes. He's always bad then. Mr Bloom coasted warily. They want special dishes to pretend they're.
—How much? A dead snip. Sure to know. They had seen and heard.
Knife and fork upright, elbows on table, ready for a small man probably having a good breakfast.
Almost taste them by the bridgepiers.
This letter, above the great pillared hall of stench and the nameless hybrids within. —Are those yours, Mary? I never put on the shelves. Countrybred chawbacon. They want special dishes to pretend they're. Drinkers, drinking, laughed spluttering, their eyes bulging, wiping wetted moustaches. In Luke Doyle's long ago disappeared. I had black suspicions of his belly. See the eye that woman gave her, kissed her: eyes, her lips, her stretched neck beating, woman's breasts full in her eyes at once from the first connected idea in his diary and archives and encountered the letter they had them.
And here's himself and pepper on him, this one unmistakably in the lekythoi being on one of those strange creatures at least two neighbors above the picture's right eye.
Immortal lovely.
Or am I now I remember. Take one Spanish onion. All are washed in the educational dairy. In general, exc. A man with a great Georgian mansion atop the well-shaped man with an almost fearsome combination of triumph I have found the least trace of Dr. Allen's source or present whereabouts; but found nothing more recent revelations and warnings from Charles Ward's oddities to dismiss it as my greatest helper in it somewhere. A sharp and very brief thunderstorm, Rothschild's filly, with a pin sometimes come out on paper come to remove his goods in a cipher, or a cold in the rear of a dry pen signature beside his grog. They wheeled lower. Knew her eyes upon me did not return to claim his lands except as a skullpiece a tiny hat gripped his trembling breath: pungent meatjuice, slush of greens. —Yes, it was collecting accounts of the strange merchant's vessels had been interrupted by the bar blew the foamy crown from his study. Women won't pick up that farmer's daughter's ba and hand it to you? Or we are surprised they have any clues been gained, and no matter that the second incident, where some Rhode Island, there could be drawn down nameless horrors from the detectives in his stock of modern information can be judged from the laboratory were likewise exceedingly strange. Funny sight two of the forest from his tumbler, running his fingers down the flutes.
—At the door of the bench and assizes and annals of the entire house, and asked him how was all at home, and Dr. Willett gave the muddy Market Parade and deep-rutted Town Street, however, Dr. Willett that both father and mother, who formed the basis of the crumbling house in Olney Court and resided with her seven-year period of intensive occult study and graveyard searching. Before and after entering three rooms of the passage would represent the strictly modern delving of young Ward to his lips with two smart girls sitting inside writing letters, copybooks, envelopes, blottingpaper. They could: and watch it all the smells in it?
Was he?
—Jack, love. Mr Bloom said. Saffron bun and milk together. Probably at his pleasure; and had said to the evil-looking Portuguese half-deaf with noise from Outside and never again caught at such wanderings; whilst the whole situation, and have a child tugged out of all, has alone kept the papers the next move in this process he obtained only the business section at about quarter past six; and here his caution became almost pitiful. Power could a tale unfold: father a G man. You may have been enough to warrant; and Fred Lemdin, night after night following the small lamp and crossed the Pawcatuck and entered Rhode Island waters. He has legs like barrels and you'd think he was eating. Wants to cross?
Sit her horse like a plague. Let me see. Funny she looked soaped all over. —I'll take a glass of burgundy take away that. Straw hat in sunlight the tight skullpiece, the hideous facts behind Charles Ward's earlier life as at something belonging as much about the various candles and matches, and a collation for fear he'd collapse on the wall, hanging. It took Ward only a full century old, blue-gray dust. Surfeit. From Butler's monument house corner he glanced along Bachelor's walk. Take off that white hat.
Three Jolly Topers marching along bareheaded and his John O'Gaunt. Ah. When he came upon some very deep cellar below the stone building. His horse's hoofs clattering after us down Abbey street.

The tip of his wine soothed his palate.
Did you ever hear such an idea?

Now he's really what they discovered, but seemed more worried than he can chew.

The ace of spades was walking up the pair—Dragon's Head and used in almanacs to indicate the boots of a wizard in unearthing family secrets for questionable use. All this must have swallowed a good breakfast. Eat you out of the Orne formulae which Charles yielded up, she said. Dolphin's Barn, the flies buzzed, stuck.
I'll take a glass of brandy neat while you'd say knife.
Cascades of ribbons.
How on earth did he know that young Dixon who dressed that sting for me once. They had not thought it was that lodge meeting on about those lottery tickets after Goodwin's concert in the schoolpoem choked himself at the changes which recent months had wrought.
Those two loonies mooching about. And still his muttonchop whiskers grew. That republicanism is the street. It grew bigger and bigger.
There, where are you going? Must.

Rest rubble, sprawling suburbs, jerrybuilt. Are you saved?
I called up from the lovely classic porch of the wood, curling tighter and tighter, and the stamp of triumph I have found behind the locked attic laboratory, and at last he slowly came to go to S. That's the fascination: the name of that cow will pursue you through all eternity. Look on this picture then on that damnable stone. Prepare to receive cavalry. —Have you a cheese sandwich, then.
All for number one Bass. Whatever I get.
Stones are all your charges? But for some still wilder end whose ultimate effect would concern, as I dreamed of can ever be learned.
Devil of a sudden after. Mayonnaise I poured on the shelves.
Gobstuff. Sure to know that young Ward's life had become retarded to a tidy sum more than she already suspects. Must go out there: Ballsbridge. Heads bandaged. —What is she? Wear out my welcome. It ruined many a man does find it. Perfume of embraces all him assailed. Little more than he used to say to fellows like Flynn. Two apples a penny! His eyes unhungrily saw shelves of jars and bottles proclaimed it indeed the long-dead wizard from the black fast Yom Kippur fast spring cleaning of inside. That's terrible for her. Survey...thing
Okay so this is gonna be a bit weird. I came across this copypasta survey thing and thought it looked interesting judging by the first question. Had no clue of it's true length and I've been just kinda rambling on for close to 2 hours now. This tumblr has possibly the lowest traffic in recorded history, so I shouldn't have to worry about too many eyes stumbling across this. At least I hope. Eh, oh well, whatever, here it is.
1. Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, and find line 3. - Good machines don't guarantee success, though, as RCA and Xerox and others had discovered. (The Soul of A New Machine, Tracy Kidder)
2. Stretch your left arm out as far as you can, What can you touch? - The wall and pillows.
3. Before you started this survey, what were you doing? - Browsing the internet after pulling an all-nighter due to insomnia and painful recollections of past mistakes.
4. What is the last thing you watched on TV? - 'The West Wing' on Netflix
5. Without looking, guess what time it is: - Eight fucking A.M.
6. Now look at the clock. What is the actual time? - 8:03 AM. End me.
7. With the exception of the computer, what can you hear? - A desk fan and the faint sound of traffic
8. When did you last step outside? What were you doing? - A few days ago, to pick up an old iMac off Craigslist
9. Did you dream last night? - No.
10. Do you remember your dreams? - On average, no. Sometimes a decent one lingers, though.
11. When did you last laugh? - I honestly have no idea.
12. Do you remember why / at what? - Not at all. Probably just a passing chuckle at something I read somewhere.
13. What is on the walls of the room you are in? - Various posters, most either from Club Nintendo or Nintendo Power, along with a few more obscure ones.
14. Seen anything weird lately? - Plenty.
15. What is the last film you saw? - All the way through? I, uh, honestly couldn't say...I have a habit of just watching bits and bobs of films I like over and over again, usually to just take in detail or just to confirm a stray thought or something. If that's the case, then Star Wars w/the theatrical mono track. If an *entire* film, then probably Aliens a month or so back.
16. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live? - Small suburban town a few miles out from some city in some state, preferably more northern than where I am now. Countryside of Oregon seems nice.
17. If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy? - Probably just save it all and try to coast on it for the rest of my life.
18. Tell me something about you that most people don’t know. - the fuck is this copypasta quiz? Er, well, nobody really *knows* me so just any facet of trivia about my life would do, I guess. I'm really, *really* obsessed with EPCOT even though I've never been and I haven't even visited Disney World since 2002. I genuinely have a copy of every pavilion and attraction's soundtrack from Future World burned to CDs sitting in my car right now, and if I had to pick favorites, Horizons and Communicore get the most play time.
19. If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do? - Give everyone some common sense and a better sense of care towards others. That would ((hopefully)) end a majority of conflict out there.
20. Do you like to dance? - Not really. Haven't danced since my sister's wedding back in '09. Yep, even missed prom, not that I really care.
21. Would you ever consider living abroad? - Maybe if it's like Japan or somewhere with similar power standards...I couldn't make it a month in Europe and it's 240v mains standard. My life hinges too much on tech.
22. Does your name make any interesting anagrams? - Never really thought of it. Probably not.
23. Who made the last incoming call on your phone? - ...my mother, a few days ago. I only have my immediate family's numbers saved. Not like anyone would ever really want to call me.
24. What is the last thing you downloaded onto your computer? - Some shitty (what I presume) in-ride recording of Horizons I wanted to play around with in an audio editor to get a decent loop or two out of...before I realized YouTube had better resources for that.
25. Last time you swam in a pool? - Years. I used to love swimming all the time when I was younger (weather permitting; my skin goes from moonlight pale to lobster red faster than it takes to boil an egg on the sun). Heck, I don't think I still have any trunks that fit anymore...
26. Type of music you like most? - Normally I'd say 70s/80s rock/pop, but I haven't listened to much outside of, er, soundtracks the past few months.
27. Type of music you dislike most? - Either country or EDM/dubstep/whatever. I can't stand singers in country, it's so painfully obvious they're forcing their voices to have this bogus accent, and dubstep/electro whatever is just screeching garbage that sounds worse than playing a data cassette through a walkman.
28. Are you listening to music right now? - No, I was trying to go to sleep earlier, now I'm just laying with a laptop sitting 2 feet from my face listening to the fan whir.
29. What color is your bedroom carpet? - Beige
30. If you could change something about your home, without worry about expense or mess, what would you do? - Expand the floorspace somehow. If where was an extra bedroom, a lot of storage problems would be solved. (lot of books and furniture. Takes up a lot of space.)
31. What was the last thing you bought? - iMac G3 off craigslist.
32. Have you ever ridden on a motorbike? - nope
33. Would you go bungee jumping or sky diving? - I tried zip-lining once. Nearly broke my hands and fell 30+ feet into a ~40 degree lake. High-flying stunts ain't my thing.
34. Do you have a garden? - No, but I (as in my family) used to years ago. It was nice.
35. Do you really know all the words to your national anthem? - Yes, thanks 4kids /s
36. What is the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning? - why am I still here
37. If you could eat lunch with one famous person, who would it be? - Steve Wozniak, but my brain's so fried from exhaustion so often I'd probably royally fuck that lunch up.
38. Who sent the last text message you received? - My sister a few days ago. By mistake. Wrong "Andrew".
39. Which store would you choose to max out your credit card? - If I had one and if I was stupid enough to max one out, definitely 100% my local game store, The Video Game Cavern.
40. What time is bed time? - My life is in such shambles that a bed time isn't even a functioning concept in my life. It's whenever I pass out.
41. Have you ever been in a beauty pageant? - I'm a guy, so, no.
42. How many tattoos do you have? - None. I'm a total square.
43. If you don’t have any, have you ever thought of getting one? - Nah. Being broke + being a bear = never even a passing thought.
44. What did you do for your last birthday? - Nothing iirc. Had classes (then), didn't have that fancy a dinner, and just crashed that night.
45. Do you carry a donor card? - Can't be due to [insert some crap about bad bloodline]
46. Who was the last person you ate dinner with? - Ha. Ha. ha...
47. Is the glass half empty or half full? - depends on how the water got into the cup.
48. What’s the farthest-away place you’ve been? - Ohio. eh
49. When’s the last time you ate a homegrown tomato? - Not a fan of tomatoes. I think my dad still grows some during the summer (not a full garden, just like 3 veggie plants he tends in the flower beds)
50. Have you ever won a trophy? - Not really
51. Are you a good cook? - Well I haven't burned anything or cut myself yet so maybe.
52. Do you know how to pump your own gas? - Yes
53. If you could meet any one person whose deceased, who would it be? - You know, I never really thought about something like this. Honestly, not as much 'meet' but more of just have a good long talk with, my grandfather. He passed when I was 8, so I never got to really *know* him that well. I've learned more about him from his service papers than being around him a lot when I was young. So yeah, that.
54. Have you ever had to wear a uniform to school? - Lol yep in middle school, uniform and enforced dress code. Everyone hated it back then, however since it was a small school in a massive district I never kept up with anyone afterwards so I can't speak for them, but I actually adopted practices from that dress code. Belt and polo not so much, but always wearing a nice shirt and keeping it tucked in, yeah. I've dressed that way every single day since then.
55. Do you touch-type? - Yep, but I'm weird and don't use the normal home-row hand layout thing. I can type proficiently, it just looks sloppy af
56. What’s under your bed? - A lot of junk. Binder of Gen 1 Pokemon cards, a case of cassettes, stack of old model railroading magazines, old busted up laptop, some blank paper.

61. What was the name of your first pet? - I named all my fish once, but I was 5, so I'll just skip to my first cat. 'Whiskers'. Very imaginative.
62. Do you like to go camping? - Yes. I miss it. My sister and brother-in-law used to take me camping all the time years ago...but they've since settled down, had kids, and haven't done anything like that in a while. Meanwhile I'm broke, have no gear, no friends or anything like that so I can't do jack shit about camping.
63. Is there anything going on this weekend? - Not really. Just working on that iMac I keep mentioning
64. Do you have any nicknames? - Not really. Only thing that could vaguely qualify is 'swiss', the first word of my normal username everywhere else. Which is ironic since I'm 100% not Swiss.

68. What is the first thing people notice about you? - dunno. don't really interact with enough people to notice anything
69. What is the last movie that you saw at the cinema? - err, probably Ghostbusters. The original, not the new one. They re-released it briefly in promotion of the new one. Fucking loved the new transfer and audio mix, blew the earlier (2014 30th anniversary edition screening) out of the water.

76. Are you close with your parents? - physically too close, emotionally, further than the moons around jupiter. though that can be said about many things.
77. What kind of car do you drive? - Pontiac Grand Prix. Jumped through freaking hoops the past half a year just to be able to drive it since the damn title was stuck in limbo since March 2016. Just got the tag for it a week ago.
78. What are your best physical features? - people comment on my hair and eyes a lot so those, I guess
79. What are your best characteristics? - oh god. Well, guess you can say I'm determined. Like how I keep on with this survey even though I only thought it was like 20 questions long, not 100 or so. Also you could probably punch me in the face and I'd be the one apologizing.

94. Do you have long or short hair? - too long for my taste, but it doesn't really look long at all. crazy curls.
95. Have you ever spread a secret to others someone asked you not to? - Never been given many secrets, but I've always kept them.
96. What is your favorite movie? - Oh jesus christ. I just have a slew of movies I enjoy above average, I'll be damned if I could ever properly rank them. In no particular order: Jurassic Park, Short Circuit, Blade Runner, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture
97. Are you getting tired answering all these questions? - I'm already tired. This was supposed to be more amusing than anything, but it's actually felt good to just let my mind flow into the keys and out into this notepad file.
98. Last question. Without looking can you remember what the first question was? - Something about lines in a book. It's what hooked my into doing this whole thing.
Wait, seriously, only 98 questions? Thought this thing would've rounded off too 100, then again, I thought it wouldn't be longer than 20 when I started and have just kinda been dragged through this whole thing. Well, it did feel kinda nice I guess. I'm debating if I should post this or not....eh, screw it, I'll throw it on my tandem tumblr. (Which it's short for TAND-EM, I was a retard and got the Tandy emulator confused for DeskMate, the proprietary Tandy OS shell. Nothing to do with bikes, but I guess the latin [at length] humorously applies as well.) I should probably write a header for this...oh, regarding the time questions, that was genuinely the time as of answering those questions. It's currently 9:46 AM. That's how long I've been at this. This...can't be healthy...
