You’ve no idea how surprised I was to see WuJi in top 1! Since you see, I only started to listen to it last September. It took only 2 months for it to become my top song! I was that obsessed with it?! Then at top 3 is the instrumental version of WuJi. At top 5 is Xiao Zhan’s WWX character song Qu Jin Chen Qing.

The Untamed dominated not only my top songs but my top artists!!! The only reason why they peaked at October and not November is because I started to listen to other character’s songs (e.g. JYL’s Yi Nan Ping, LXC’s Bu You, etc…”

Yeah, I’m a new fan. I only watched The Untamed last September and you can see by my Spotify Wrapped alone how obsessed I got with the series.

M+M’s Kpop Classics List

Hello all!

As the title states, this is my own, personal, kpop classics list. This is what I would identify as kpop classic songs that I would be able to listen to forever without fail. None of these songs or artists are in any particular order, but you will be able to tell which artists I prefer overall by the amount of songs listed under each group/soloists name.

Most of the groups or soloists on this list are older, meaning from the 1st, 2nd or 3rd Gen aside from the select one or two who are from the 4th. I tried to keep my classics list to the earlier kpop generations as most of the groups from the 4th are just too young in the industry to have made an impact yet.

Just because a group or soloist isn’t included on this list doesn’t mean I have never listened to them or didn’t like them. I have been into kpop and a part of the kpop fandom for almost 20 years....believe me, I have listened to A LOT of kpop and still do. (and I enjoy a lot of it!)

You will probably notice a few patterns to the choices on this list:

I am not a massive fan of girl groups, as there are only 4 girl groups total on this list. I am sorry to any fans who love kpop girl groups...I do not have anything against them, they just usually are not my jam, aside from the very select few.

TVXQ are quite prominent and honestly, if I could include their entire discography from 2003 debut to now, I would. I consider TVXQ the ultimate kpop classic because I am biased as fuck. *thumbs up* In other words, if you don’t like TVXQ or don’t believe they are a classic, (1) you’re wrong and (2) you can leave.

I like random ballads. Like...super random ballads.

No, BigBang and 2NE1 are not on this list. I wasn’t a massive fan of either group back when they were active and I am still not a big fan now. If this list were like...an official “classics” list, I would have definitely included both groups, as they were/are influential still to this day in kpop....but that doesn’t mean I particularly enjoy them or listen to them a lot.

Above comment also goes for Girls Generation. They are a girl group and they were into the cutesy concepts back in the day and I never cared for the girly/cutesy concepts...therefore they didn’t appeal to me.

Annyeong chingus! It's been a while since I logged a blog here. Anyways! Kdrama is not new! Been hyped to the fever again since 2017. And since then... my oppa list goes on... Ommmooooo they're already 10. HAHA kasya pa sa heart ko ah.

Without further ado, here are my 10 boyfriends in another nation.. My Imagination 😆

1. Lee Min Ho - first love ko, probably 1st love ng lahat. First knew him at Boys Over Flowers as Go Jun Pyo and loved him again as the charming con artist Hyu Joon-jae. Well, excited for his come back this year after being in military service, heard The King will premiere this Friday at Netflix.

2. Lee Jong Suk- my forever love! Among my oppas, Jong Suk has the most numbers of dramas I've watched. Fell in love with Him first at While You Were sleeping, then loved him even more at Doctor Stranger and so on... His last Kdrama I've watched was the one he last taped before going for 2 year-Military Service,  the RomCom- Romance is a Bonus Book, where he was a writer/editor Cha Eun-ho. Bogoshippeo Jongsuk oppa! See you taping kdramas again after a year <3

3. Park Seo-Joon - first noticed Seo-Joon at Hwarang. Then, even noticed more of His handsomeness in She was Pretty and that he's also humorous in the kdramas Fight for My way and What's wrong with secretary Kim. He's so cute with His aegyooos. With His strong built and masculine features, he is also good with action projects.   Remembered watching his recent movie Divine Fury and it was Daebak! (Awesome)

4.  Seo Kang-Joon - first noticed him at Cheese in the Trap and it's where I first experienced the second lead syndrome. Loved His brown eyes! <3 Gladly, I was able to watch a drama that he was a protagonist, in "I am Human too". I heard it was the most expensive kdrama. Well, after a long time of not seeing him, I'm glad that he has a new kdrama with Park Min-Young in the Weather is Fine. I will watch it soon.☺️  Seo Kang-joon is also a Kpop member of the group, 5urprise.

5. Park Bo Gum - first saw this adorable guy as a crown prince in the kdrama, Love in the Moonlight. Indeed, captivated by his wonderful smile. And I heard that he's also a Christian. Loved him even more in the Kdrama, Boyfriend Encounter.  

6. Ahn Hyo-Seop- Ahn Hyo-Seop or his english name Paul Ahn is very good in English because He is actually a Canadian citizen, who lived and studied in Toronto. Hear him speaking in English and you'll be "kilig". First seen Him in the kdrama, Abyss and placed him on my list right away. Also watched His Kdrama Queen of the Ring and also saw a video of him dance with her partner in the drama and he was really good! and just found out that he's also from a group, One O One.  And that he's a close friend of my latest oppa, Rowoon and also a friend of Song Kang. Anyways, proud of him for doing so well in his recent Kdrama Romantic Doctor 2 who had had ratings.

7. Cha Eun-Woo- Cha Eun Woo's visuals are just so irresistable right?! if I could describe it, magandang lalaki. Diba, he's just so beautiful to be a guy. haha sorry for the term. Pero sobrang gwapo nga talaga ni Eun-woo. Well, noticed him first in the kdrama, My ID is Gangnam Beauty where you'd also hope na sana ikaw nalang si ate ghorl. haha. Well, Eun-Woo went on the drama Top Management with my other Oppa, Paul Ahn. Pero di ko nawatch. He's also pretty talented, as a member of the Kpop group Astro.

8. Ok Taec-Yeon- Taec-Yeon is not the typical fair-skinned oppa but I really do admire his complexion- nakakalalaki plus His masculine built. He also reminds me of someone! haha pero loved his kdrama Bring it On Ghost, first episode pa lang sobrang goodvibes. I just can't count how many times I laughed with the whole drama. I enjoyed a lot and loved their roles that I even named my dog with Kim Hyun-ji (the girl protagonist's name). His latest kdrama The Game Towards Zero was also very good, suspense-action but very well thought story line, tapos unpredictable talaga ang mga succeeding episodes. Basta angaling! Taec-Yeon is a member of the group 2PM and he's really good rapper and is fluent in English.

9. Song Kang- At first you would think that he was a kpop artist but he's purely an actor. Well, I've just seen him on a netflix drama Love Alarm that was recommended by my aunt. And He was oozing with handsomeness and acting that got me ohhh so kilig and fell for him. haha! excited to see you in Love Alarms Season 2 my dear Song Kang!<3

10. Kim Seok-Woo (ROWOON)- my baby! kasi dongseng... Yes, I claim him my baby. hahaha He's the latest oppa, 2weeks old pa lang. haha perooo I could say he hit me hard in the heart coz I so like him. Di pa nakapag move on ever since I watched his first lead role drama, Extra Ordinary You. And fell in love with his role as Haru. He has also starred in When the Stars Land, second lead nonomon. Kaya pala his face was familiar. Anyways, his role as Haru was pretty serious and composed, unlike to who He is real life which I found out upon binge watching his videos in you tube, Rowoon is really very makulit and clingy but with that I find him even more lovable. Plus he is so tall, 6'3 besh.. omooo sarap i hug nun. haha And upon seeing more of him, I also learned to love his kpop group SF9. And it's probably the first male kpop that I'm committing to fandom. chukayoo self! Rowoon's really handsome, good in singing and dancing. He's perfect, yes he's perfect for me. hahaha. love you baby!

Bighit is not in the Big 3- RANT (please read)

Okay I seen this almost fucking everywhere that fans (mostly Armys) thinking that Bighit has entered the Big 3 and dethroned either YG or JYP, Or that they entered the “Big 4”.

Before I get killed by Armys let me fucking explain myself as I have something to tell you my new Kpop fans. Let me educate you a little bit about Kpop from someone who was into kpop fan since 2012.

If you think Bighit is in the Big 3 then you clearly have no idea what the big 3 is and what it means to be in it.

Being in the Big 3 isn’t about profit and sales as Bighit has surpassed the Big 3 in profit, but being in the Big 3 is about the legacy they hold and how much of a impact they had on Korean society.

SM, YG and JYP Literally shaped kpop and korean society themselves with their groups. All three of them have a long history starting back from the beginning of Kpop in the 90s with their successful 1st generation groups, to their 2nd generation groups that started the Hallyu movement to now with their 3rd generation groups. They paved the path for many modern groups and kpop wouldn’t be nearly as popular as it is now without the big 3.

SM, JYP, and YG proved over and over again that they can debut really successful groups, and most of these groups created kpop what it is now. No other companies can come close to become in the Big 3 as no other company comes close to what these 3 has achieved. Few years ago, not debuting in the big 3 meant you’re not gonna be successful and will flop and will be in debt so much longer.

Big3 privilege does exist as groups who debut in one of the big 3 have so much resources, support and has a huge advantage to make themselves big and known, compared to a smaller company which groups has to fight and work so much harder to be recognized by the public.

Bighit is an unknown company who almost went bankrupted and made 1 successful group and no girl groups?? (I say 1 successful as txt is still too new to determine).

Bighit MUST have a girl group in order to enter the big 3 but they don’t cause they’re being a sexist lil shit and won’t let go and shut up about GLAM. Why would the Big 3 want a company who can’t even fucking manage a girl group to be in the big 3 with them as all 3 of them have extremely successful girl groups.

What did Bighit do to kpop and Korean society?? literally make 1 Successful group and have fans who think they’re better then everyone else lol.

(I do believe BTS is influencing Korean society and Kpop right now but not in the scale of the Big 3)

Profit doesn’t qualify a company into the big 3. Bighit exceeded the big 3 with profit, but numbers doesn’t matter. Having 1 really successful group doesn’t qualify a company into the big 3 or big 4, as Big hit doesn’t even come close to what the big 3 has achieved, and would never even come close.

You guys say that BTS are paving the way which I do agree with you guys, but also are other popular groups today. Many popular groups of the Big 3 (For Example: Got7, Exo, Twice and Blackpink) have accomplished so many things that BTS never or would never achieve and you guys are so unaware of it, as you guys are only focused on BTS’ success and accomplishments and not other groups.

Lastly, Don’t believe those articles online that says Bighit is in the Big 3, cause those are a load of Bullshit, false news, biased opinions and kpop fans who have no knowledge about kpop whatsoever. Don’t believe everything you read online.

I love BTS with my whole heart but it gets tiring as a multifandom to see this literally everywhere.

What a year! This makes it seem like I only listened to kpop. I mean I mostly listened to kpop but still.

Got better into KARA and U-KISS. Saw Amber and Eric Nam (who I also just got into cause I saw he was coming a week before Amber and bought a ticket and listened to his music and fell in love) in concert. Found 2pm who have that awesome song that’s such a dancing song but it’s actually super sexy and didn’t go with my dance moves and they’re also very similar to SHINee. Finally understood why BoA is a queen and actually got into girls generation a bit too. And of course got so into Super Junior that I think I’m technically maybe an elf now. Also cause they were my top artist

Now with some solid 2nd gen kpop history under my belt I really feel like an older fan. But what’s awesome is that a lot of these groups are still together or at least separate but still making music. So of course SHINee is going to come back eeek so excited! Ukiss just got out of the military too and they’ve already come out with some Japanese stuff too (and Kevin has made lots of appearances as well!) I’m guessing 2pm might do something, definitely working on those variety shows, 1 still in the military. CL is going to come out with an album soon too without any label (wonder how that will go), Minzy opened her own company and a part in the Philippines too, and Bom is also working on a new album as well. 2021 is the year for 2NE1. And of course super junior has got a lot lined up for them already. I swear they don’t stop working. And this is just what has already kinda come out, so super excited cause these artists are mostly still making music. What would make it a great year is if Kara did something together. They don’t really have a Dara who’s always reminding people how she’s 2NE1’s Dara and posting pics of her with her members. But one can hope.

 1. When and how did you get into kpop?

I got into kpop in 2010 when my brother came home from his uni and showed me the mv for Brown Eyed Girls’ ‘Sign.’ I couldn’t stop listening to that song (it’s so catchy and their live stages were amazing). When I was finished watching a live stage for Sign (on my recommended videos on Youtube) there was a SHINee dance practice video (it was for Lucifer), so I clicked on it out of sheer curiosity, and now here we are!

2. Favorite hair on your ult bias? 

I really all of Jonghyun’s hair to be honest (even his RDD hair), but one of my all time favorites has to be when he dyed his hair pink because he had wanted that color for so long. He carried a picture of the exact color he wanted his hair to be, he talked about it for so long, and it really did suit him so well. He looked adorable, and it made him so happy to have that color, so I really loved it too!

3. Who was your first bias in your bias group and is it the same now? 

Jonghyun was my first and will forever be my SHINee bias. 

 4. Favorite non-kpop artists/groups?

Gallant (if I’m not listening to kpop there’s a 95% chance I’m listening to him), Paramore, P!ATD, Run River North, Years & Years, Beyonce, The Killers, Coldplay, One Republic. I listen to a lot of jazz too, so there's that too I guess.   

5. Are your friends outside of tumblr into kpop also? 

A couple of my closest friends are into kpop (two of them have just recently gotten into it).

 5. Favorite era of your bias group? 

I really love SHINee’s Odd era, but, honestly, every single one of their eras is golden. I also really love the Misconceptions era a lot.

6. When you shuffle your music library what are the first three songs that come up? 

Postcards From Far Away by Coldplay, Give It To Me by 2pm, Brick by Boring Brick by Paramore

7. Favorite kind of kpop concept? (i.e cute, retro, school etc.) 

I really love dark concepts, but also like the dual concept is really cool ( so like VIXX’s hyde/g.r.8.u, SNSD’s Lion Heart/ You Think like that sort of thing.)

8. If you had to be trapped on a deserted island with one of your biases who would you choose?

Nichkhun. I think he’d be really helpful and resourceful. 

10. If you were in a kpop group what role do you think you would have (i.e leader, rapper, dancer, vocal, mood maker, etc) ? 

Maybe like rapper/leader?? idk haha im not talented like this.

 11. Favorite kpop choreography? 

View by SHINee, Eternity by VIXX, Red Light by f(x), Dream in a Dream by NCT’s Ten. I have a lot more favorite ones, but these are some of my top ones.

12. In what company would you like to be a part of?

Rapper: Tablo, Singer: Jonghyun, Dancer: Taemin/Hakyeon (the way their bodies move are so beautiful)

My favorite idols who have their solo careers

I first thought of making a top 10 list of kpop group members who have their solo albums but I had such a hard time choosing the tenth that I opted to just countdown my favorite 9. 

9. Bobby. This member of iKON won Show Me the Money (SMTM) 3 so that kind of stablishes the fact that this boy can rap. I know he technically has not put up a solo album but he did release his single Holup as part of the album of the unit MOBB (Mino and Bobby). I really think he has huge potential since he’s only 21. Maybe if he improves in his songwritting we can really see some interesting music from him in the future. He also has a nice singing voice that actually reminds me of GD not because their voices are similar but because they both have really unique voices.

8. Henry. For those of you who like watching korean variety shows you probably know who he is because he’s been in several shows. If you’re into kdramas then you must watch him in Oh my venus with Shin Min Ah and So Ji Sub. However he is mostly a multi-talented songwriter and has a variety of music that has pop, ballad, classical and hip hop influences. He even wrote a song for EXO’s upcoming album The War. He’s canadian and was scouted by SM to form Super Junior M (the mandarin sub unit of Super Junior). 

7. Kyuhyun. I have a huge soft spot for Kyuhyun. My brain knows he’s actually not the best of vocalists and he doesn’t write his own stuff plus his ballads are not too interesting but there is something about the tone of his voice that makes me react emotionally to every song he sings. Needless to say he is my bias in Super Junior on top of that he’s super funny as he has shown in Radio Star and New Journey to the West. He’s currently doing his service and probably we won’t be able to listen to anything from him in two years. His only hit At Gwanghwamun is a must listen but I have so many songs I love like Blah blah, The parting, Piano Forest and Hope is a dream that doesn’t sleep (OST of Baking King Kim Tak Goo).

6. Jay Park. I know calling Jay Park an idol at this point is stretching it a bit and he probably wouldn’t like it but since he once was the leader of 2PM I feel he does qualify. Although I’ve been listening to his songs ever since I got into kpop I didn’t know much about him until recently which kind of only makes me like him more. Controversy aside I love how he rose to success after struggling as an idol. His r&b and hip hop music is so good. Also I think he’s a positive influence on the korean music scene. My favorites are his sexy songs like Sex Trip and All I want to do.

5. Lay. I actually don’t like M-pop. I think it always sound like something you’ve already heard but it’s Lay, my EXO-L heart is predisposed to like anything they do however I do think his first mini album is really good. He opted for an r&b classic sound and it really fits him. My favorite song is his title track Lose Control that shows his song writting skills. 

4. Taemin. In my opinion, Taemin (Shinee) doesn’t have a great live voice so when he released Danger in 2014, which by the way concided with me really getting into kpop (I only liked EXO before), I didn’t really understand it. However SM always does things right when it comes to Taemin, every come back he does whether is in Korea or Japan it always has a different sound and most of all a complex and distinct sound. My favorite song of his is Goodbye (Sayonara Hitori) but Press your number was drilled into my head for most of 2016. The new song Flame of Love for his japanese comeback is also amazing. Because he is such a flawless dancer his stages are always on point and he can really stand on his own.

3. GD. He’s just out of this world, isn’t he? A lot of people have called him a genius and he would actually be my number one if it wasn’t for the fact that the songs I like the most from him are Big Bang songs not his solo stuff. Having said that he’s just so good as a solo act. The range of what he can do is amazing. He’s a crazy performer, a great rapper and of course an off the charts producer. His singing voice is just plain weird and I’m not even talking about the way he bends the words while singing but just his tone. I of course like his album Coup d’etat but I’m so obsessed with Untitled, 2014.

2. Jonghyun. I’ve talked about this before in this blog, but when I listened to Shinee’s Jonghyun album She is I became obsessed with it and went back and listened to his previous records and his latest album all made me a fan of his music. I wouldn’t call him underrated but he hasn’t had a huge hit just yet. I think it’s kind of just a matter of time. Let me out, Inspiration and White T-Shirt are my favorite songs.

1. Zico. I don’t have much to say he’s just Zico. If you have been living under a rock or you’re not into kpop then I can say he’s a rapper and a singer member of Block B. Most of all he’s an amazing producer. I think what really showed that side of his was SMTM 4, in each stage of the competition he created beats for his team and the results were chart topping hits like Fear and Okey Dokey. Of course SMTM and Mino had to do a lot with the success of those songs but it still is impressive. I love when he does songs with an indie feel like She’s a baby and I am you and you’re me. but there’s really nothing I’ve heard from him as a solo artist that I haven’t liked. Of course his highlights have to be Eureka, Veni Vidi Vici, Bermuda Triangle and Anti.

1. Where is your happy place? I love going to Farmers markets as well as any book stores or cafes.

So I’m going to do @baekhyuneeeee-exo‘s questions first :)

1. Why is your bias your bias?

Okay so in case you didn’t knew my bias is Baekhyun, that smol enthusiastic lil puppy. So when I first started listening to exo I din’t knew who was who but I fell in love with Baek’s voice and then I saw some variety shows (like Weekly Idol) and just couldn’t take my eyes off of him because he’s such a talented man with a very bright personnality and this cute rectangular smile and his laugh is a melody to my ears really.

2. What is your all time favourite k-pop song?

It’s a bit hard to choose but I really love Moonlight by EXO, it’s such a beautiful song, I love ballads and I could listen to that song on loop for hours.

3. Describe your ideal meeting with your bias.

First of all, I would like it if it was just the two of us, without cameras and photographs. It would be in some quiet place, maybe grab some coffee and just talk because I wuld love to get to know the real person instead of just the idol.

4. What’s your dream job?

I want to work in tourism but I still don’t know what job exactly. I want to do something that will allow me to travel all around he world if possible (let a girl dream please) and that’s why I’m studying languages and I’m thinking of doing a Master in tourism later on after I get my bachelor degree.

5. What’s your favourite animal?

It used to be the dolphin (don’t ask me why it was just like that) but now I don’t really know. I love pandas and dogs.

6. What is one food you could eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

I don’t think there is any food I could eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner to be honest. I need diversity when I eat! But I mean, give me bread and I’ll eat it anytime I guess haha.

7. How did your bias become your bias?

It just happened? No but more seriously, the more I listened to EXO’s songs and watched the MVs and variety shows, the more I felt for his beautiful eyes and smile and voice and whole being. I mean, he’s such an adorable puppy, who doesn’t like him?

8. Which fandoms are you a part of?

I’m a full time EXO-L. I listen to other groups like SHINee, SUJU, 2PM, NCT but I’m not into them as much as I’m into EXO.

9. Favourite Non-Kpop artists?

Ed Sheeran! He’s such an amazing artist, he writes his own songs, play music and I love his voice.

10. What drink do you usually get from Starbucks (or any coffee shop)?

I either get a Caramel Macchiato or a White Chocolate Mocha. But Starbucks is expensive so I don’t go that much.

11. What’s your favourite scent?

Vanilla, I love to use vanilla scented candle.

Yeah I mean, Kim Jongdae happened so... But it didn’t last long? Like Baekhyun took back his place full force and hasn’t moved a slight bit ever since hahaha.

Disappointing people who trust in me and not being able to realise my dreams and do something of my life.

3. Do you have any talking habits ? (like a word you say all the time, etc…)

I’m not too sure to be honest, I must have some talking habits but I couldn’t tell what exactly.

4. What is your all time favorite kpop choreography and why ?

Eh that’s hard! I would say Monster, it’s a powerful choreography and I love it a lot.

Nowadays it’s Perfect by Ed Sheeran, I really love that song!

Maybe blue since I wear blue jeans most days, or black too but I have lots of colorful clothes as well.

My favorite MV is definitely Love Me Right, I love the concept of this MV so much!!

FIRSTIES First kpop group you listened to? 2PM probably, one of their songs was the ending of an anime I watched and their songs were kinda catchy so I listened to those quite a lot for a few days

First group you actually knew the members’ names? Day6, I wanted to know wonpil’s name because he had such a surprising voice and then it all went downhill from there

Yes, it was blonde Nichkhun who made me look upon 2PM and devour their music videos, performances, variety shows and that goodness called Real2PM (how I wish it hadn’t stopped...). And here I am, listening and adding a few more groups here and there but staying mostly for them. Hmm, Shinee’s Hello Baby and MBLAQ’s Sesame Player may also have helped.
