I was so sure the prosecutor told Eunha about Jihwan being Hyunwoo but the teaser for next week's episodes (13-14) confirmed he actually didn't reveal his identity and I am so disappointed!! I think there would be much more depth and layers in the latest episodes if Eunha knew about it, especially in that scene where they're walking home from the mall and she tells him Hyunwoo was the reason she's working with kids now. I thought she knew about it and because Jihwan made it clear he felt uncomfortable digging up his past, she was just subtly giving him hints she's open for this conversation. I thought it was her creating opportunities for him to bring it up, but in a way that isn't forcing him to do so because she's willing to wait for him until he's ready.
I know kdramas just can't ignore the appeal of a big dramatic storyline but Healer (2014) had a similar plot point and used it pretty much like what I was expecting in My Sweet Mobster! At one point, Youngshin realizes Park Bongsoo is not his real identity and he knows that she knows, but she doesn't ask any question about it. Later, when he's ready, he finally introduces himself as Seo Junghoo, his real name. What's surprising is that it's almost an non-event in the drama, there's just relief and joy and no tears or angst about it. My Sweet Mobster had the potential to follow this path!!! It wouldn't feel out of character for Eunha because she's the one who notices how Jihwan is struggling to communicate so she decides to help him by pushing him out of his comfort zone while still respecting his boundaries (Exemple: in episode 12, when he wants to apologize in the kitchen but he can't utter a single word, she tells him she knows he wants to apologize as a way to engage the conversation and make it easier for him). This storyline would have been really great, I wish they'd gone with this instead!
#my sweet mobster#i kept thinking about healer during this week's episodes#only to find out i was wrong for like 2 weeks lmao#also if you think about it the characters in both dramas are quite similar?#the very honest but bubbly and friendly girl who likes to joke around but will take boundaries seriously#and the taciturn guy with a criminal past who's trying to push the girl away but he can't resist the happiness she brings to him#their relationship is both naive (first serious relationship) and mature (respect and understanding is important to them)#.txt

Avor's Watchlist
I spent most of the last 24 hours rescuing my PC by connecting and configuring a new hard drive, which has put me a bit behind on the series’ I wanted to finish this week.
Currently Airing
4 Minutes 4/8 It currently presents itself like I am watching the fixit fic alongside the source material and I am enjoying it.
Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko 7/8 The last two episodes were so uncomfortable and made no sense in how they handled Hiroko
Battle of the Writers 3/12 Silly pretty pictures
Blue Canvas of Youthful Days 2/12 This looked like it could be a solid Chinese University BL with all the alienation and abandonment typical of the genre
Cosmetic Playlover 4/8 Story overall moves too fast but also in-episode arcs feel miscalibrated alot of space is given to the setup and not much to the resolution
First Note of Love 2/12 I am hoping for more chemistry between the leads next time. They both look interesting
I Hear the Sunspot 8/12 Apparently the plot was moving to fast after EP6 because they made Maya the only active character in EP7 and that was very jarring
With You I Bloom 11/20
Mr Mitsuyas Planned Feeding 4/10 Slowly but surely the relationship develops. Acting and story are great the badly done seasonal changes are as funny as they are distracting though
Seoul Blues 1/8 Sukfilm has this very narrow interest in their queer stories. But they find more angles to look at it.
Sugar Dog Life 2/10
Takara’s Treasure 7/11 It gets better with each episode.
What I am catching up on
Boytoy 5/13 Feels like an early BL
Like Love 2/15 I need to catch up Chinese Bls
Love in the Air 11/13 Someone explain to me why this is one show and not two
The Double 31/40
The Founder of Diabolism Donghua Season 1 4/15 I’m trying it out but if the other two seasons are harder to find I will probably not be inclined to search for them
The Princess Royal 19/40 the royal aspect of this couple makes this weaker than The Double
Unstoppable High Kick 21/167 Its fun but I cannot imagine watching more than two episodes a week
Word of Honor 13/36
Finished in the last two weeks
Bad Guy 06.08.24 8/10 Another short series where Sukfilm examines the struggle between societal pressure and being true to your own desire.
Century of Love 08.08.24 7,5/10 A good core idea and story, music was a bit off and had few odd choices esp in ep 9
Knock Knock, Boys! 08.08.24 9/10 At bit slow at the start. A light hearted show that was suprisingly earnest in its potrayal of queer life
Meet You at the Blossom 15.08.24 7,5/10 Failed to maintain the comedic balance it set out with. Otherwise the Chinese costume BL it seemed to be from the start.
My Sweet Mobster 17.08.24 7/10 It had some good points on rehabilitation but overall standard fare with some lengths
Dropped in the last two weeks
Bad Guy 8/50 11.08.24 -/10

Psst. Hey. You.
(I approach you in a fedora and shades, and I start whispering in your ear in a New York mobster voice.)
Yes, you. Did today’s episode of Dungeons and Daddies make you emotional? Perhaps because Grant and Darryl have such a sweet and tragic relationship? Yeah, me, too, kid.
(I discreetly slip a business card into your hand. It looks like the cards from American Psycho, but it has nothing but an AO3 pseud printed on it.)
I’m Donny. Cal C. Donny. But my friends call me Chalcy. And we’re friends now, ain’t we?
Listen. I’ve got the goods… It’s called OKAY I CAN’T KEEP DOING THIS BIT. IT’S NOT WVEN FUNNY
I usually don’t do this but uhhhh… shameless plug for my DnDads fic Silver Linings! >:) It’s about 13-14 year old Grant and his relationships with Darnell and Darryl and Carol and? Other people! As well as his mental health and stuff.
It’s currently 70k+ words and counting (projected to end at ~100k words; currently at 7/10 chapters). It’s a no-Forgotten Realms AU. It’s sometimes fun but usually angst. There are unfortunately a good amount of OCs, but they’re mostly unimportant and are introduced slowly, so don’t let that intimidate you.
Idk what else to say about it. I love working on it and seeing comments from you guys! :) I just posted a new chapter last night, so I wanted to promote it hehe. My AO3 is chalcedony if you’re interested in checking it out! Thanks for all your support! <3
(Sorry I’m still super hyped up on today’s episode haha ^_^)
#dndads#dungeons and daddies#chalcy stuff#grant wilson#darryl wilson#that’s all I’ll tag for now#I’m done clogging up the dndads tag for today 😭😭 sorry#I got all my annoying energy out#I’m back to cool quiet and reserved Chalcy#🧘♀️#lol#I know I promoed it yesterday but what can I say#I like attention 😎#jk jk jk

January 2023 Media Recap
I don’t know if I’m going to do this every month, but I thought I’d do a recap of all the things I’ve watched and read in January, and share a few thoughts on some of them.
Movies Watched:
1. Star Wars VI
Technically this one was a rewatch, but it was still a very fun time.
2. Barbie Princess and the Pauper
Also technically a rewatch, but I haven’t watched it in more than 10 years, so I didn’t remember a lot of it. Very cute movie, though.
3. Fellowship of the Ring
Yes, I finally watched it. Yes, I loved it. Yes, whenever I saw memes of this before watching it, I thought Aragorn and Boromir (and I think Faramir, though I haven’t met him yet) were the same person.
4. Absolute Zero
Cheesy disaster movie, with a clear message of “We have to try to save everyone. Yes, even the rude and selfish businessman nobody likes. Because it’s the right thing to do, we must fight tooth and nail for him like we would anyone else.” And also family. Will I rewatch it? Probably not, but still a good time.
5. Disaster Zone: New York
“Hey, there’s suddenly a volcano under New York, and also humans made it, and also Abby from Sanctuary talks like a mobster from the 40s for no apparent reason.” Fun time, though I could have done without the one super gory scene early on where everyone was being affected by the water.
6. Curse of King Tut’s Tomb
This seemed to be two movies? Or two in one? I’m a little confused, but I’ll just count it as one. Not really a fan of the “gods and demons” storyline, and I probably won’t rewatch it, but I have to admit that it looked like a fun movie. Like, every single actor seemed to be having the time of their lives.
Books Finished:
1. 60 Ways to Keep Your Brain Sharp
Most of this was pretty standard stuff, and some of the psychology didn’t really sound right, but some of it was helpful!
2. To Kill A Mockingbird
Wow. Definitely not what I was expecting, and a very interesting read, for sure.
3. A Voice in the Wind
Francine River’s style gives me mixed feelings-there’s a fine line between portraying sin to make a point and taking it too far, and she walks that line a lot-but it’s a really well done story, and a compelling cast of characters. Not a fan of Marcus in this book, but don’t worry, there’s book 2.
4. The Mistletoe Favor
Standard Hallmark-style love story, very cute. All of the characters are way too emotionally aware, but it literally brought me to tears, so, hey, it works.
5. Unveiled
Not my favorite of the Lineage of Grace novellas, but it’s objectively as good as them. It just hurts so much to read. It’s the story of Tamar, and the poor girl goes through so much in it.
6. Unafraid
The story of Mary. A really impressive book in the Lineage of Grace series, and really interesting. Very intense. Also, fair warning to my Catholic friends (beloved), it definitely ends on a firm note of... Taking the side against Catholicism. On another note, Joseph is such an interesting character in it!
7. Be The Boss of Your Stuff
A book for kids about organization, cleaning, tidying, and sorting. We don’t need to talk about how helpful it was for me, an adult. (Very)
8. An Echo in the Darkness
The sequel to Voice in the Wind, and personally, I like it a little bit more. It introduces a few new characters that I really like, and Marcus wins me over, though I’m still a bit annoyed by some of the stuff he pulled in the first book. Still, a really satisfying conclusion to quite a few storylines, while leaving a few from Book 1 open for Book 3.
9. From Lost to Found
Nonfiction book about perfectionism that punched me in the face. Repeatedly. Excellent book. Trigger warning for stories involving miscarriage if you read it, though.
10. Trade Your Cares for Calm
A practical look at the best ways to set worry aside. Short and sweet.
TV Show Episodes Watched:
1-12. Once Upon a Time in Wonderland 1x02-1x13
I’ve already rambled about this a lot, but it was such a sweet fairytale story, and I really enjoyed it!
13-14. Spiderman: The New Animated Series 1x07-1x08
I don’t really watch this one often, but it’s good for if I don’t have much time to watch anything, or I’ve watched something scarier than expected and need to unwind. I’d enjoy it more with like. 80% less relationship drama, though.
15. Dollhouse 1x01
Just watched the first episode of this, and I’m kind of on the fence. It depends on how it’s done, I suppose, and how it holds up, content-wise. We shall see. It’s a super interesting concept, though.
-
Best movie watched in January: Fellowship of the Rings
Best book finished in January: An Echo in the Darkness, though From Lost to Found gets a really close second
Best TV show watched in January: OUAT in Wonderland
-
On a final note, here are all the fics I posted in January:
1. A Wonder to See (Sanctuary, Emotional Compass mermaid AU ficlet)
2. I Never Dreamed of This (Timeless, Garcy nightmare fic)
3. The Perils of Normalcy (Sanctuary, Magnitt domestic fluff AU ficlet)
4. All in a Day’s Work (Sanctuary, Will and Helen friendship, mild whump)
5. How We Move On (Sanctuary/Timeless crossover, Helen and Garcia interaction, time travel ficlet)
6. Inevitable (Timeless, Wyjess whump fic)
7. A Helping Hand (Sanctuary, Emotional Compass whump/caretaking fic with lots of hair brushing)

Sailor Stars thoughts:
1. The anime does its absolute best to make the Starlights unlikable. Taiki is a fucking asshole (he won’t even give a dying girl, who he explicitly was taken to visit, an autograph, and tells a bunch of children that their grandfather’s theory about souls becoming stars is dead wrong), Seiya is a Nice Guy who hits on Usagi constantly despite being told multiple times she has a boyfriend, and Yaten is a mildly sarcastic cardboard cutout. I know the manga doesn’t expand on them much but the anime is supposed to help make these people real. Counterexample is Chibi-Chibi, who hardly speaks in the manga and relies on her cuteness alone to be likable. They gave her a very cute voice because it was literally all they had to work with, given how often Chibi-Chibi actually appears
2. The dub cast for the Starlights is frankly awful. As civilians, Taiki alternates between a woman trying too hard to make her voice deep and having a bad cold, Seiya sounds like a prepubescent boy, and Yaten sounds like a woman (which they’re not, as civilians); as Starlights their voices are VERY high pitched, especially Yaten’s. Their sub voices just sound like woman talking a bit deeply and then normal women.
3. Why the FUCK did Toei think literally changing sex was less controversial than crossdressing? The Starlights are women and have always been women. Plus, them being male civilians in the anime creates a paradox, because if they’re men with sailor crystals who can become senshi, why can’t Mamoru - who is confirmed multiple times throughout the series as carrying the earth’s star seed and thus being Sailor Earth - do the same? Naoko said Mamoru can’t be a sailor senshi because he’s a man, but the Starlights don’t abide by this rule, they change their fucking biological sex
4. Why is absolutely no one concerned that Chibi-Chibi, a THREE YEAR OLD, just goes off on her own and has her own little adventures? She wanders into some strange old man’s house and they’re all “oh that’s just Chibi-Chibi,” and no one is worried that a literal stranger invites a three year old into his house where he gives her toys and candy? The 90s were WILD, man
5. Why does Chibi-Chibi, again who is THREE YEARS OLD, have a thigh gap?
6. This one’s on Naoko because it’s like this in the manga, but the anime is supposed to expand on the universe so I blame them too: Why does literally nobody question Chibi-Chibi’s motives? Some strange pink haired child who fucking falls out of the sky one day up and brainwashes Usagi’s mom into thinking she’s her second daughter, and nobody bats an eye at this? That’s sus as fuck and literally the only question anyone has is “is she your kid or Chibiusa’s?” She doesn’t even have a NAME, “chibi” is just a random word she says!
7. I am DIGGING the mobster feel of the Animamates’ civilian forms. Especially Iron Mouse and Tin Nyanko, who clearly launder money through a shady car dealership.
8. The Starlights’ only redeeming qualities are their snazzy entrance music and Seiya’s red suit
9. Why is Aluminum Siren the only Animamate who understands that a senshi has a pure star seeds? Like, y’all killed the senshi of your home planets to take their star seeds so YOU could be senshi (which is presumably why Galaxia wants more seeds, to make more Animamates with them), shouldn’t you know that?
10. Aluminum Siren/Lead Crow are trying their damn hardest to give Harumichi a run for their money in the quest to become the Best Space Lesbians.
11. So the Moon Kingdom fosters loyalty through child soldiers. I’m assuming Queen Serenity has her own senshi in the form of our senshi’s mothers, etc. (Which begs the question of if the Asteroid Senshi are supposed to be the future kids of our senshi or if they too are child soldiers from the asteroids they’re named after.) Kinmoku seems to foster loyalty by having the Kakyuu’s senshi fall in unrequited love with her. (In the manga it’s stated Kakyuu has a husband who died when their planet was destroyed.) I mean, whatever works, right?
12. I LOVE Tin Nyanko’s dub voice. She’s only around Usagi’s age and she sounds it
13. The dub actress for Lead Crow seems like she’s half assing it. Her voice doesn’t raise properly when she yells, she never sounds really angry, and it’s just so odd. I find a lot of dub voices do this, while the original Japanese VAs will scream their lungs out into the mic
14. On the reverse, Galaxia’s voice actress is a badass. She’s supposed to have a deep menacing voice but I like the one they gave her in the dub. She’s quiet, and sounds almost kind, and that’s a fucking TERRIFYING sort of villain we don’t see a lot of. Even when she’s pissed she doesn’t raise her voice.
15. Why are Lead Crow and Tim Nyanko the same height? Lead Crow is like 5’10 and Tin Nyanko is 4’11 like Sailor Moon
16. As an aside, Tin Nyanko and Lead Crow don’t like each other, which reminds me of the cats vs crows trash can showdown in Haikyuu lol
17. Haruka’s hate boner for Seiya gives me life
18. FINALLY someone calls the Starlights out on being assholes but it’s only after Makoto sees them harassing a THREE YEAR OLD (Chibi-Chibi). Literally everyone BUT Usagi thinks they’re assholes. “They sing such beautiful songs!” Bro. You can sing pretty and still be a fucking dick.
19. Lead Crow goes after Sailor Moon only after reading Siren’s notebook. Ditzy SIREN is the smartest Animamate, lord help them
20. Kakyuu’s dub voice is SO GOOD. She’s my favorite minor character, I’m still bitter they didn’t show Sailor Kakyuu
21. Seiya’s crush on Usagi was so awkwardly shoehorned in. I hate it. Jesus fucking Christ Usagi is sobbing in the goddamn rain about how much she misses Mamoru and Seiya is STILL coming onto her.
22. It is literally so fucking funny to me that Mamoru spends all of Stars fucking dead. He’s just a perpetual damsel in distress.
23. Rei literally lectures Usagi about leading Seiya on and how “you need to do the right thing and tell him you already have someone,” AS IF USAGI HASN’T BEEN DOING THAT AT EVERY AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITY. THE FIRST TIME THEY MET SHE SAID SHE HAD A BOYFRIEND, SHE’S TOLD SEIYA OVER AND OVER THAT SHE ISN’T INTERESTED IN HIM, THAT SHE’S GOT A BOYFRIEND, THAT SHE LOVES HER BOYFRIEND. The fucking MISOGYNY here, like it’s Usagi leading Seiya on instead of Seiya being a fucking Nice Guy who can’t take no for a goddamn answer. Shut the fuck up, Rei.
24. Pretty sure under Kakyuu’s headdress is a pair of odango
25. The fact that Iron Mouse and Aluminum Siren both die when their bracelets are removed yet Tin Nyanko doesn’t implies that Tin Nyanko was the original Sailor Mau. Mouse and Siren dying implies that forcing senshi powers on a civilian is dangerous and that Galaxia’s bracelets are the only thing keeping them alive (albeit brainwashed). Yet Tin Nyanko seems to revert to “good” when one of her bracelets is destroyed. Galaxia has to intervene and kill her personally. Tin Nyanko may have offered her senshi powers to spare Mau (this applies only in the anime; in the manga she’s explicitly said to have killed Sailor Mau)
26. Oooh Galaxia’s angry voice is so commanding and sexy
27. Don’t gimme that “we love Usagi but we love you Starlights just as much.” No you fucking don’t. The whole death scene in the anime is just so... ugh. Bad.
28. The Outers fighting Galaxia is hilarious. They’re supposed to be stronger than the Inners yet Galaxia never even has to get out of her chair to kick their asses. The writers were trying real hard to make us fear the worst and back the senshi into a corner but literally they’ve made this an impossible battle to win that only becomes winnable due to plot armor.
29. Rewatching Stars and classic after Eternal and Crystal makes me miss the battle damage the fuku took. The new series always has them looking pristine, but in classic they actually get roughed up and battle scarred. It makes it more real.
30. Aww how come Uranus and Neptune got to keep their names when they joined Galaxia? I wanna know what whack ass Animamate name they would’ve gotten. (Also Galaxia literally just sent them out like Pokémon, wtf)
31. I feel like Saturn dying shouldn’t be possible since she’s literally a senshi of death but... whatever, go off I guess.
32. So.... Uranus and Neptune joining Galaxia to try and take her star seed is a cool idea that absolutely did not happen in the manga, and needed more than half an episode of development. Would’ve been a cool plot if it wasn’t so rushed.
33. So much of this season was rushed so they could tie the series up at a beat 200 episodes. If they really didn’t want to go over 200, they should’ve cut the Nehelennia arc (which isn’t in the manga anyway) and and focused on developing the Animamates, this sweet Harumichi betrayal plot, and explaining Chibi-Chibi??? Her existence makes no sense without Sailor Cosmos, and they just... didn’t include her??? Wtf

Also - any media recs? PGTE is an all-time favorite, I'm currently finishing up season four of TMA, and (as you have noticed) I just recently caught up in RWBY. I've also read Worm, and while I enjoyed it, I found it a bit of a slog. Any media accepted, but if you have a show you like, I'm more in the mood to watch something.
While normally I recommend Pact to anyone who likes Worm, but if you found the latter a slog I doubt you’ll really enjoy it.
But okay, scattershot recommendations with no real guiding theme.
TV:
Baccano!: A 13-episode anime about mobsters, immortals, bootleggers and serial killers in 1930s New York and aboard the doomed transcontinental express Flying Pussyfoot. Wonderfully stylish, fast-paced, and full of gleefully amoral and charismatic people hamming it up and killing each other. (Also every major character would fit seamlessly as a batman villain)
Revolutionary Girl Utena, Kino’s Journey, Madoka Magica: I mean, I’m assuming you’ve already decided to watch these or not on your own by now, but they’re more or less live up to the hype.
Person of Interest: A 5-season CBS vigilante procedural that starts with question “Is batman more believable if make him two guys working together instead?”, and proceeds to become overtaken with government conspiracies, futurist cults, and some of the best cyberpunk-adjacent media American television has produced.
Sweet/Vicious: This one just stays a vigilante show, but then it also got cancelled after one season. The heartwarming tale of two relatable college fuck-ups who in their spare time deal out brutal and occasionally accidentally lethal vigilante justice on campus rapists. To this day I do not know how there weren’t more Hot Takes about it.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: I’ve been talking about this one pretty ad nauseum recently, so I’m sure you know my basic opinion of it. But, uh, yeah. Star Trek. Good.
The Americans: Enjoyed a 6-season run as the Best Show On Television, by which I mean the standard joke was that it ‘had slightly more professional critics doing weekly recaps than it had viewers”. The heartwarming tale of two deep-cover KGB operatives trying to raise their kids, save their marriage, and kill preposterous numbers of people while wearing hilarious wigs, in Reagan’s America.
Books and Comics:
Saving myself descriptions since it’s late and you said to focus on tv, but do ask if you want to be properly sold on any of them.
I would absolutely and unreservedly recommend The Traitor Baru Cormorant, Ninefox Gambit, Annihilation, Ancillary Justice, The Parable of the Sower, Gideon the Ninth, The Fifth Season, and (comics-wise) Monstress, Saga, and The Wicked and the Divine.

Buckle the fuck in children, this is going to be long and uhhhhhhhhh long.
Modern AU - Anything set in current day, but not in the SPN universe. A lot of the BDSM/sex worker fics fit into this category but obviously??? They belong on the ever important BDSM list. Duh.
Let’s get fuckin ready.
Part One - BDSM
Part Two - Sci-FI/Fantasy
Part Three - Historical Setting
____
1. The Last Great Race - Kicking it off with a bang. Cas is a reporter, he goes to Alaska to cover the Iditarod - the dog sled race. Dean is participating and so is Sam and there are so many huskies and also romance. It has a prequel time stamp. It is lovely and I love it and read this right now.
2. Pies and Prejudice - This is on my Top 8, but it’s a Pride and Prejudice Great British Bake Off Modern AU Fusion. Dean is Liz and Cas is Darcy. Please read this it’s wonderful and also cake is involved.
3. Between The Lines - Fam, Okay, I thought this was going to be Garbage but it’s not. Environmentalist Cas gets in a twitter feud(!!!!) with Western Actor Dean and they make a bet to live in off the land for a week and it’s. Amazing. Enemies 2 frends 2 luvrs. Trust me.
4. And Then You Destroy Yourself - The only Non-BDSM College AU worth reading. Cas is a freshman, he joins the College Newspaper, there is drama and mystery and intrigue. And Gay. The underage drinking is bit cringe but it’s very in character for college students, so what r u gonna do.
5. Love In The Wild - This is a hilaaaaarious Reality Show AU. Dean goes on a dating show and does challenges and meets the luv of his life, u kno? What more do you need. There is sex.
6. Through Basin And Range - Yeee buddy, Road Trip Fic!!!!! Dean and Cas are there but have broken up and it’s rough, and Sam is there also but he is sexting Kevin for some reason. Cas is spending the summer working on a thesis for his Geology Masters (master of rocks), and Sam n Dean tag along. This story really is lovey. It’s only on LJ though, so. :/
7. Unintended - Lawyer Cas bids for Fire Fighter Dean in a date auction and honestly. The sex in this is so good, like I lost this fic for three years but still remembered The Scene (You’ll know the one, that shit is hardly ever seen outside of PWP). This fic is so slept on. You need to read it. I think they live in Washinton or something. Maybe NYC. I forget, I’m busy thinking about The Scene.
8. Your Heart Makes - Ok so there are Three Disney Land AUs in this fandom that I know of. One of them is garbage, one of them is pretty good, and the last is incredible and it’s ur lucky day because the incredible one is this one. Castiel suffers from pretty bad depression, and is just trying to get through life, day by day. Insert Dean w/ a heart condition. There’s love, there’s slow build, there’s disney ride hand jobs. It’s a good time.
9. Any Little Heartbreak - I just reread this one recently! Heart Surgeon Dean! Surgery Nurse Cas! Enemies to FWB to Lovers! It’s like Scrubs meets... some sort of medical drama. Whatever, it’s a trip, and Meg is so fun.
10. Bearing Point - This fic is lovely and fun and it’s construction Dean + restoration expert Cas. I have beef with this fic, in that the author made Dean gay, instead of bi or pan and for me, a huge bisexual with strong emotional ties to Dean’s bisexuality, it kind of grated on me a bit and ruined the immersion. But, if you’re not a big baby like me, this fic is lovely and wonderful and they literally build homes together and also get nasty.
11. For All You Young Hockey Players Out There, Pay Attention - SPORTS AU. I don’t like sports but SPORTS AU. Dean is a hockey person. Something something NHL. Dean plays the sports with his brother. They get a new player from russia, but Dean is >:( bc they traded out his bff so Cas is The Enemy. Enemies to grudging friends to lovers. Coming out. Homophobic confusion. This fic is wonderful and lovely and sports. If you love destiel and you love Check Please, then this is the AU for U.
12. Fourth Time’s the Charm - Ooooooooh, age gap fic. Cas is a comic book artist, Dean is a fan who goes to conventions. He’s also a virgin. :) Here is a direct quote from the summary: ‘Dean shyly fumbles his way through his first real relationship.’ Literally what more do you need? Literally?
13. If At First You Don’t Succeed (Destroy All Evidence That You Ever Tried) - lmao this fic is ridiculous. Inspired by the HIMYM episode, the three days rule, Dean replaces his number in Castiel’s phone to test he’s not being too eager when he meets girls. sexting ensues and Dean is !!!!! Gay Panicked. I love it, read it now, it’s sexy.
14. Prosopagnosia - This one is Teen and Up, I know, I am shocked that I’ve included it too. But it’s such a sweet story. Castiel works in a Gas n’ Sip and he has a cognitive disorder that means he’s face blind. He can’t recognize anyone, which makes his blossoming relationship with Dean a bit complicated. But they work around it. The Impala plays an important role.
15. Run Boy Run - FAM OK FAM PLS. Blind! Dean wants to compete in the Boston Marathon, but he needs a guide people to help him navigate obstacles and the other contestants. Castiel’s brother signs him up and he’s reluctant, but then he meets Dean and uhhhhhhh it all works out. It’s so sweet. Read it. Teen and Up again??? I’m srry, but it’s really good.
16. Yellow - Here’s another I haven’t read yet, but. It’s Elizabeth1985 and also it’s Cas in Witness protection and the excerpt I read places it firmly on my favourites list. Ex-mobster Cas, They are bartenders, there is falling in love, there is also fucking yeaaaa buddy, back on the sexy bandwagon.
17. Rough Seas - Dean is a Lieutenant Commander who moves home with a toddler and he’s involved with the Coast Guard, and he used to know Cas but there was gay panic and so things are tense and angsty and wonderful and this fic is amazing. SLOW BUILD. LOVERS TO ENEMIES TO FRIENDS TO LOVERS. Literally the best. There is a sequel which is almost as long. This fic is so lovely.
18. Asunder - This fic my guys, this fic. Please send help. Social Worker Dean. Recovering Heroin addicts Sam and Ruby who are getting married. They go to Bobby’s for the wedding. I forget how Cas fits in but he’s there and it’s lovely and so well written and wonderful and honestly? A Classic. If you read anything from this list, read this fic.
19. Satin and Sawdust - Lmao u guys u know me. Dean in panties love story. It’s on my Top 8. There’s capentry, there’s gay panic Cas, there’s satin and lace and soft cotton and also Dean has two cats. Read this right now.
20. Living In Agony - THIS FIC MY GUYS. I had three people read it from my Top 8 and they all died and met me in heaven bc i also died when I read it bc it is so. Lovely. Angst, mental illness, teachers Cas and Dean, Gabriel and Charlie are there also, Jess is a delight, Sam is in love with green smoothies, the sex is ridiculous (there is one line that helped shape me as a person and you will know which it is and you can blame this fic for all of the absolute filth that comes out of my brain. Read this right now.
21. Inevitable Homoeroticism in Spanish Romantic Heroes - :) Okay so Dean is a Grad student and Cas is a professor and it’s academic and sexy and not really a college au and I read it like four years ago and I still think about it. I suggest it very highly!!!
22. Get Some - Dean is in college and needs a place to live. He goes to live with Castiel, at the stoner house. Gay Panic happens and there are drugs and loads of casual sex and it’s honestly a good time. A bit angsty but mostly thumbs up muy bueno.
23. That Summer - Short and sweet, lost love, this fic is so lovely and wonderful. It does feature an age gap with underage Dean so, if that’s not your bag... He is 17 at the time. Farmer Cas! Love and exploring sexuality!
24. Rvr Ro11435 - Destiel works at Nasa!!! Neither are astronauts but they are smart cookies who help send people to space. It’s tagged as an office romance. It’s cute.
25. The Way to a Man’s Heart is Through Chlamydia - One night stand. Dean gets an STD. Has to find his boo and tell ‘em about the STD. There’s fun sex and love and one of them is a baker and the love is so sweet and I love this fic. And I’m psure Cas gets a cat.
26. Say a Prayer and Light a Candle - College AU where Cas struggles with dating agnostic Dean bc he is very Jewish, and it’s important to him and his family. This fic is special, and really culturally rich. I love it. Little bit of Angst, mostly love and sweetness.
27. Painted Angels - Fuck u this one is hurt of my heart. The Angst is Unreal. Dean is an artist. Or, he was an Artist. Lost Love, which gets found again. Cas returning to town a decade later. All the good shit.
28. Small Town Charmer - SMALL TOWNS! DEAN AND CAS! THEY RUN BUSINESSES AND FALL IN LOVE! Errrrrrr OTHER STUFF HAPPENS! This fic is lovely and great and if you don’t read it then u a dum dum.
29. Summer Holds a Song (We Might Sing Forever) - :) Age difference. Body worship. Dean Winchester described as a Greek God. The fucking is so hot. The love is so sweet. It’s short, but you gotta read this.
30. The Great Escapist - This fic is so sweet. College roommates Dean and Cas spend the summer together and fall in love. I don’t remember if there is Gay panic but like... I’m pretty sure.
Okay! 30 seems like enough. Maybe in the future I will do a part five. We’ll see. :)

Even if you yell at the top of your lungs from up here, no one will hear you. Everything you have bottled inside of you, just let it all out. It's fine, I don't want to disturb the neighbours. You'll fall ill at this rate! At least, get one thing off your chest. Ah, I'm fine.

What is the best vampire movie you have ever seen? I am in desperate need of some good ones to quench my thirst. Lol I apologize for that joke XD
Hehe. I love the pun. I like cheesy things.
1. Dracula (1979 version). This version of Dracula is one of the few romantic incarnations of Dracula that still seems to enjoy what he is and isn’t suicidal. I chose to believe he faked his death at the end. Also the Mina character (renamed Lucy) is delightfully aggressive and Laurence Olivier plays a fantastic Abraham Van Helsing.
2. Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Though this version is more faithful to The Dracula Tape by Fred Saberhagen than it follows Bram Stoker’s novel it’s the only version to leave Quincey Morris in tact and still the most faithful film adaptation to date despite the added love story between Mina and Dracula. And that odd origin story they gave for Dracula’s vampirism.
3. Dark Prince: The True Story of Dracula. This film can be found on Youtube for free. It stars Rudolf Martin, who also played Dracula in the Buffy The Vampire Slayer episode Buffy vs. Dracula. It’s surprisingly respectful to the history while also implying Vlad the Impaler became the famous vampire after death and actually works as a very good prequel to most recent (within the last thirty years) adaptations of Dracula.
4. Fright Night (original 1985 version). If you love eighties music, traditional vampires, and loving homages to classic Hammer Horror and Dark Shadows I strongly recommend this movie. You don’t see too many serious modern vampires able to turn into a bat, wolf, or mist anymore and it’s just a fun movie. Also Roddy Mcdowell played Peter Vincent (a sweet homage to both Peter Cushing and Vincent Price) masterfully. You see excellent and well portrayed character growth and I highly recommend it and even it’s 1988 sequel, Fright Night: Part 2. I miss the traditional vampire powers to summon storms and change form into a bat, wolf, or mist and age and de-age at will and most of those lost powers make an appearance in this movie but not in the 2011 remake which lacks heart and passion on the part of the film makers behind it.
5. Lost Boys. Much like Fright Night this is a fun eighties movie. Like Fright Night it has an excellent soundtrack and humor with the horror. The sequel’s not very good but the third one is decent. Not as good as the first but decent.
6. Interview with the vampire. Despite what Anne Rice hopes I doubt she will ever be able to make a better film adaptation of the original source material than this movie and it’s a shame that a version of The Vampire Lestat was never made by the same people. If you can find it the San Francisco (NOT the New York) adaptation of the Lestat musical actually works pretty well as a direct sequel. The San Francisco version of the Lestat musical was never officially released to video but there is a good quality bootleg out there.
7. Let the Right One In. An eerie and beautiful platonic love story between a boy and a vampire. The film is adapted from the novel of the same name. Also it’s far better than it’s awful American remake.
9. The vampire Lovers. Despite deviations from the novel and two character name changes this is still a far better adaptation of Carmilla than many other film versions and it does capture the atmosphere and ambiance of the original novel, something few adaptations seem to manage.
10. Demon Under Glass. This one is extremely low budget. It’s so low budget it might as well have been filmed in someone’s basement however it has a very clever premise and a tie-in novel (with twice the plot) by the woman who wrote the script. It deals with what happens when a kindly doctor is roped into working with the government in regard to studying a captured vampire.
11. Scars of Dracula. This was Christopher Lee’s favorite Hammer Dracula movie to work on and you can tell.
12. Nightbreed. Not specifically dealing with vampires the main character does rise from the dead as a vampire who craves blood. Seek the director’s cut or “Cabal Cut” if possible. It’s based on the novel Cabal by Clive Barker. And it has a haunting score by Danny Elfman.
13. Monster Squad. This is a mulltimonster movie but Dracula is the ring leader and it’s fun. Another 80s gem.
Bonus mentions: F. W. Murnau’s Nosferatu. Though I hate that people now think the word means a bald and bucked toothed vampire when it just means vampire. Vampire The masquerade helped popularize that idea and this movie popularized the idea of vampires burning in the sun, which didn’t exist until the movie. However, as terrifying as Count Orlock might be, I like Murnau’s Faust better than his Nosferatu. His adaptation of Goethe’s Faust is very underated and I highly recommend it even if it’s not a vampire movie.
And of course the 1931 Dracula starring Bela Lugosi and the Spanish film also made at the same time using the same sets. Who can forget those? And Dracula’s Daughter. Son of Dracula. House of Dracula and House of Frankenstein and Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein. (those require watching the other Universal Monster movies first).
The Subspecies movies. Cult classics and very under-rated. Radu (named after the real life Dracula’s brother) is not a sexy vampire but an intriguing one.
The Hunger starring David Bowie, based on the novel by Whitley Streiber.
Hammer’s Dracula movies: Dracula (1958) AKA Horror of Dracula. Brides of Dracula. Dracula: Prince of Darkness. Dracula has risen from the grave. Taste the blood of Dracula. Scars of Dracula. Dracula 1972 AD. Satanic Rites of Dracula (AKA Dracula and his vampire Bride).
Innocent Blood. This one deals with vampire mobsters after a female vampire bungles a feeding and has to team up with a cop.
For vampire comedies I recommend Love at First Bite, What we do in the Shadows and Dracula: Dead and Loving it.
TV shows: Castlevania (new animated series), Dracula: the Series (not the awful NBC series, but the 1990s kid friendly one, it’s weirdly respectful to the novel despite giving Dracula blond hair). Forever Knight. And Buffy The Vamprire Slayer. True Blood’s first few seasons were good but around the Lilith / Billith storyline it went down hill and never recovered. The “Hep V” storyline was God-awful. Midnight Texas is pretty good but not strictly vampire related. And for anime Hellsing and Hellsing: OVA.
For “So bad it’s good” I recommend Dracula 2 (sequel to Dracula 2000) and Dario Argento’s Dracula or as my friends and I have nicknamed it “Mantis Drac.” It’s like the Plan 9 from Outer Space of Dracula movies. And the badly dubbed anime Dracula: Sovereign of the damned (which can be found on Youtube). It’s meant to be an adaptation of Marvel’s Tomb of Dracula but they couldn’t get the rights to Blade and had to work around him. They also tried to condense years worth of comics into an hour and twenty minute animated movie.
For comic books I recommend Tomb of Dracula from Marvel. Morbius The Living Vampire, also from Marvel. Legion Of Monsters (2010 version). And Dracula: The Company of Monsters (independent and very good graphic novel series).
For plays I recommend the musical Dracula by composer Frank Wildhorn. It’s pretty much a musical adaptation of the 1992 Bram Stoker’s Dracula movie.
For novels I recommend the sorely under-rated Dracula books by Fred Saberhagen. There are ten in all and three short stories. The first book is The Dracula Tape. The audio books are available on Amazon and Audible (but sadly not the printed versions except used or digital) and the audio books are brilliantly read by Roblin Bloodworth (I kid you not. That’s really the reader’s name.). I strongly feel Fred Saberhagen’s Dracula novels deserve more positive attention than what they get.
And of course other books: Dracula, Carmilla, Let the Right One In. The first three Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice (and possibly Tale of the Body Thief for comic relief), All the obvious staples. But also try Quincey Morris: Vampire by P. N. Elrod.
For short stories try Box Number 50 by Fred Saberhagen which can be found in the Saberhagen vampire Tales and the Dracula in London short story collection edited by P. N. Elrod.
I’ll probably think of some better ones later. My mood about these things changes on a whim.
