The Roll Reversal Between Sonic And Amy

In Sonic Prime did Sonic and Amy’s rolls get swapped? Because MAN THE IMPLICATIONS IN THIS SHOW IS BOTH SUBTLE AND NOT SUBTLE AT THE SAME TIME.

The reason I say the two hedgehogs rolls are swapped is because one line in the entire show is the only indication of Amy’s crush on Sonic.

Sonic: “You like me….To some extent.” It’s never hinted at in the original Green Hill. Though a funny and random detail I liked is Amy apparently tricked Sonic into getting into the water (Probably to teach him how to swim) and I thought that would’ve been adorable to see.

Now onto Sonic’s part. Sonic possibly having a crush on Amy shouldn’t be a surprise. First of all the implications in actual canon Game/Modern Sonic is increasing more and more in my opinion. Secondly, this show’s version of Sonic is probably the most emotionally driven and affectionate. He’s not as secretive about how he feels either.

Sonic in episode 8 s2: “We’re all in this together. And I’d really think you’d grow to love them as much as I do.”

Onto the small details. We have short, but not hard to miss moments of Sonic just….staring at the different Roses. Sure, it can be viewed as platonic, but it’s the constant softening his gaze in a bunch of different scenes that didn’t have to be added, but was. It’s all up to interpretation.

Anyways, Sonic and original Amy’s first interaction is with the blue blur coming up to her excitedly and standing in a flirtatious manner. His tone of voice when he says “Got a little sidetracked,” could be interpreted as anything, but how he’s animated makes me pretty sure it’s intentionally flirtatious. That’s just me though.

Then we have the flirting teasing at Rusty Rose in the pirate dimension.

Rusty: “Not that anyone will remember you.”

Sonic: “Now you’re just being hurtful.”

Sonic not minding Black Rose hugging him and might even appreciates it.

And almost all the scenes between him and Thorn Rose was ship fuel for me. With Sonic calling her “Thorny,” as a nickname. He kept the location of the green shard a secret so Thorn could trust him. Sonic stopped himself from fighting Thorn as much as possible. (The Amy Flashback was adorable) Not to mention the last few scenes with Thorn holding onto Sonic was sweet as well.

Sonic even helped improved the sisters lives.

With Rusty finding her humanity and ability to live without her Flikie.

Thorn regained her broken friendship and trust with the Bose Cage Gang.

And Black Rose became the new leader of her Crew. (I say that knowing it was mostly Dreads redemption that helped, but still)

Sonic’s also the reason for all the Roses to gain a sisterhood. Which was one of the most precious part of the entire show. Season 3 has scenes of them running up to Sonic to make sure he’s alright, and helping Sonic twice by saving the last three pirates from No Place and getting him back home.

And here’s my favorite detail. I love how Sonic adores Amy’s way of thinking in Prime. When helping Thorn come to her senses, Sonic mentions how the original Amy would handle the situation. Expressing herself and discussing how she feels. The reason I bring it up is because Sonic finds value for Amy being able to do it without issue. Understanding he’s not the best at expressing himself.

Thorn: “I don’t know. She sounds pretty great.”

Sonic: “Yeah. You are.”

In fact. Sonic thinks so fondly of Amy that the show couldn’t end without having him come to her bashfully and calling her, “Sweet Amy.”

Also the posing with Sonic’s hand behind his back and feet up doesn’t help.

Last thing I’d like to point out is Sonic’s implied crush on Amy is very subtle and despite all of this can be interpreted as platonic which I’m fine with. But the thought of a roll reversal between two characters that’s never experienced it prior to now is awesome to speculate.

Last Book: I've been reading and annotating We Both Laughed in Pleasure, a collection of Lou Sullivan's diary entries over thirty years (1961-1991). It's an awesome little glimpse into gender exploration and queerness in that time, especially between the '70s and '80s (which was, like, prime time for exploration among Americans). And it's amazing history to just soak in, if you're looking for more info about one of the first openly transgender people to medically transition. I highly recommend it if you're interested in biographies and queer books.

Last Movie: Hehe, Sonic the Hedgehog 3. I've seen all three of them in theaters and I adore them. Sonic the Hedgehog was the first video game I ever played.

Last TV Show: I don't know if it counts, but I re-watched every single Stefon SNL skit last night. But if it doesn't, I think Young Sheldon would be my last show—and it's surprisingly good.

Sweet/Savory/Spicy: I'm really craving some fried Spam right now, so I'm gonna have to go savory on this one.

Relationship Status: Single, but I'm chill with it.

Last Google: "e-102 Gamma Sonic", which is a character from Sonic Adventure. I was going on a deep dive into the Sonic characters because I didn't realize that Gamma has, like, a distant cousin named e-123 Omega. I was also being super annoying and explaining the lore of Sonic characters to my non-Sonic-obsessed sibling.

Looking Forward To: I'm seeing my sister today! And I'm pet sitting for her, so I get to hang out with her awkward ass cats and her very talkative Husky.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 rating my opinion

Yes i made a third review thing (spoiler ahead like always)

So Shadow beating up the soldiers was awesome

Im happy Tom, Maddie, Tails and Knuckles gave sonic a Bearthday that was sweet of them and the moment with tome and sonic was sweet

When they got to Tokyo to stop shadow i knew Shadow would win i mean hes shadow the ultimate life form i dont care what you say hes the best

The chao garden restaurant was cool and Knuckles saying pika pika was funny

When the G.U.N guy (i forgot his name) died and gave sonic the key then the other gun soldiers thought sonic stole the key i wasnt happy like what the flip how about find them and ask them if they where given the key

Seeing the moments with Shadow and Maria was so cute and i feel so bad for shadow 🥺

The part with Gerald and Eggman where they where doing a family bonding was weird like weird weird and the dancing part just no

(i know im skipping a lot but im not covering everything)

When sonic saw Tom knocked out was heart breaking and of course he would want revenge (i saw like 3 episodes ok Knuckles) of course wade was the person guarding the emerald but why him and the moment when sonic and shadow got powered up with the emerald was amazing

When sonic was about to literally kill shadow, shadow did nothing to stop him like is he ok was he just ready to die like omg he needs therapy

The heart to heart was sweet and i cried (and i feel like Gerald had something to do with the orders given to take shadow away i dont know why but something is up)

When shadow and Eggman sacrificed there selfs i was really sad (but honestly i knew shadow would survive)

The first end credit with metal and Amy was awesome shows that Amy can be her own girl boss

The second end credit scene once i saw shadows shoe i knew it was him i knew it and i was so happy

So the movie was 10/10 (because shadow)

Shadow and tails are my favorite characters but i loved every moment with shadow hes so cool

Riddle: has a nice organized house. Spends very little time playing it because he doesn't collect all the clothes and furniture. Sad that Jess only gives you a cat or dog, my boy wants a hedgehog 🙁. His house is, as you can imagine, very red, and fancy. He will take the free gifts and refuses to spend real life money. He only has 2 floors cuz he thinks it's ridiculous to go any bigger. He has the typical stuff downstairs and the second floor is all outdoors stuff. One room is just a fancy table surrounded by roses and other flowers. Only interacts with his character's partner (Floyd) when it's required for a mission or date because the dialogue is so sweet, and the teapot tyrant refuses to be a blushing mess, even alone. Also has a library, with couches and the wallpaper from the international women's day pocket surprise, he got lucky enough to get it as a free-bie. Cleans the trash in the neighborhood religiously, spans the whole around his house. Wishes there was some way to penalize whoever is tossing that trash to begin with, Trey tells him the coins he gets for each piece of trash, was fined from the litterers and that seems to pacify him 

Ace: Chaotic as hell, are we surprised? In the beginning he picked out a gray cat and named it Grim to annoy real Grim. Has Deuce as his character's partner but refuses to admit to any feelings beyond friendly ones. It's nearly sad how much he fights against the idea of him and Deuce (repressed gay, we have a repressed gay here), and claims it's just because Deuce is the best friend he's got, who else could live in his super awesome house? (note, it's not awesome, it's a mess). He can barely keep a room in order, cuz he has so much random stuff. Has a penchant for getting the same date items every single time so he has multiples of shit that he just puts up. Like the dragon dumpling date- he refuses to call them dates, they are hangouts dammit!-, he gets the same dragon head so now he has 7. He has them all hung up in a row in Deuce's room, cuz of course they separate rooms, so they stare at him when he sleeps. 

Deuce: It's blue time baby! He enjoys the game as a relaxer and decorates it pretty simple, or tries to but he gets so many things it gets a bit cluttered, no matter how many times he uses the moving truck. Once again, is in it with Ace, and gives Ace a separate room, because he thinks having his sprite and the Ace sprite sleep together would be disrespectful when Ace is so blatant about it. Loves outdoorsy space like Riddle and has at least one room as a park, complete with a duck pond. Another one who has a cat named Grim purely to be a dick. Has a room devoted to vehicles, and even has a road patterned floor, is bi and proud so he doesn't mind that the road and the cars are all rainbow-y since they come from the pride parade date. 

Trey: You know the two most done up rooms in his house are the kitchen and the bathroom. Sad he can't actually bake but the pancake minigame satisfies that urge for him. Collects the clothes he likes but lets Cater do the dressing up stuff for him. Tries to keep it simple and fun. For the bit he googles ¨ normal things to have in a house¨, cuz he's normal. Totally normal, run of the mill, average. Totally. Has some rooms that are ¨weird¨, like what appears to be the waiting room for a dentist office, and one that seems to be a cellar, with the wine glass chair and buckets of berries. Actually, the 2nd one isnt that weird

Cater: Do I have to say it? Aesthetic king! Always dresses him and Trey up so fly,  is sure to change outfits everyday. Spends $20 a month on this thing because he has to have all the fresh new furniture from the pocket surprises. Both loves and hates how affectionate the characters are, he feels that he can't really have that and Trey only sees him as a friend. Someone just love this boy, he needs it. His favorite date is the cat cafe one cuz its cool and trendy but also fairly romantic, and coffee shops carry not-sweet food, like bagels, so he can actually enjoy eating there

Oh that last post is perfect timing for this question lol. A friend of mine mentioned that it'd be cool if they brought back Shifty Station back for the Grand Festival. So my question for you, oh cool dude on the internet, do you have a favorite Shifty Station map and/or which ones would you like to see again if they had the balls to actually bring them back

Honestly it's very hard for me to pick a single favourite one because i haven't played those shifty stations since they came out. I haven't even went back to them in private battles. So i just looked through inkipedia to see which ones i remember liking.

So first we got Zone of Glass.

This had the invisible platforms on it and i think this was my first ever shifty station. I think! I don't remember! I think Action vs Comedy was my first ever Splatfest so that's why i think this is the very first one i played on.

Then we got Cannon Fire Pearl.

Being able to use Ink cannons in multiplayer was awesome. That's all i gotta say really, it's just a cool gimmick.

Then we got The Bunker Games.

This is just a sick concept, being trapped in a dome as you battle in a small space. That's fire, i love it.

Then we have Grapplink Girl.

I like the grapples and it was fun to zip around from my vague memory lmao.

Sweet Valley Tentacles.

Squid vs Octopus was a crazy Splatfest in hindsight huh? It was a full on race war.... And they just treated it like a silly little competition... Man, Inklings and Octolings are fucking crazy and so unserious HAHAHAHA!

Listen, I'm a Sonic the Hedgehog fan, grind rails make anything 100x better idc.

Gusher Towns.

I like gushers, they are just fun to climb up and reach new areas. Also... the jokes write themselves about gushers... not gonna elaborate, but look at the ink colour....

The Maze Dasher.

I LOVE DASH PANELS! THEY ARE SO FUN! WOOO!!!!!!!

Bridge to Tentaswitchia.

I LOOOOVEEEE THIS ONE! I love how you can see the enemy team on the other side of the map, i love the gimmick of having to ink enough on a surface before it eventually goes behind glass. It's so cool, love it.

The Chronicles of Rolonium.

I mean there's something so satisfying about chucking these giant ass things at enemies and splatting them. There's this primal satisfaction to it... I can't put my finger on it....

MC. Princess Diaries.

I mean come on. I don't even need to explain why this one is so good. You already know! YOU ALREADY KNOW!

Anyways that was my ramble about Shifty Stations, i love the vibes of them and i want them to COME BACK NOW!!!! IF WE DON'T GET AN ORIGINAL SPLATFEST STAGE FOR SPLATOON 3 GRAND FEST I WILL ACTUALLY MURDER SOMEONE! I WANNA PLAY IN THE CRATER! PLEASE! LET THE FINALE OF SPLATOON 3 BE CLIMATIC AS ALL HELL! this is by no means in any sort of order lol but for relationships:

Ranma/Akane (Ranma 1/2) they were my bread and butter as a kid and they still are. for me, nobody will ever take their place or top them

Link/Zelda (Legend of Zelda) it does depends on which game but i always love their relationships regardless of if it's more romantic (like in skyward sword) or more friendship (like in wind waker)

Sasuke/Naruto (Naruto) nobody is ever going to do it like them.

Hashirama/Madara (Naruto) ...so obviously i have a type LOL

Flynn Rider/Rapunzel (Tangled) i know this one is probably silly but talk about a movie that changed my life as a kid. they invented love To Me. and honestly i feel like they're the only disney princess couple that are actually in love with each other

Howl/Sophie (Howl's Moving Castle) but only the movie bc still haven't read the book 😖 but again, invented love. one of the most romantic movies to me

Xie Lian (Heaven Official's Blessing) talk about A Guy lol. i love that he's the ultimate, all powerful guy but is still so teehees about everything. i love a guy who has suffered through some of the absolute worst torments but still manages to find and be the good in the world. he's such a comfort character to me. i would bake him breads and invite him over for dinners <3

Link (Legend of Zelda) link is my Number One Guy Of All Time. he's cool, he has a fairy, he can play instruments, he's a cutie, he has a magic sword...

Zelda (Legend of Zelda) zelda is obviously incredibly smart and wise, but she's also incredibly powerful (usually more so than link or ganon) she has the true power of a god plus she's an archer and (occasionally) also has a cool sword

Sonic (Sonic the Hedgehog) another guy that is just so cool. sonic is so cool and he's got a sassy attitude. love that blue creature 💙

Spongebob (Spongebob Squarepants) another silly answer but idc. spongebob is so funny and sweet, he's so nice and loves everyone. and he lives in the ocean. he's my friend :3

Luo Binghe (Scum Villain Self Saving System) MY POOKIE ❤️ he's an all powerful demon who's also a huge crybaby and i'm not supposed to want to hold him in my arms??

Hatsune Miku (Vocaloid) i know miku doesn't technically have a lot of personality but i love her voice and i love "her" music (i love music made using her lol) plus she's so cute :3

Daisy (Mario Bros) SHE IS MY SUPERSTAR <333 i have loved daisy since i was a little kid. she's so cute and she's loud and obnoxious and sometimes rude and i think that's so awesome for her

i'm so bad at talking about things i like without just saying "its cool 👍🏻" lol so i hope you can forgive that this isn't maybe the best list in the world. and ofc there were so many characters excluded from these lists i was just going off the top of my head here.

GAMES (And DLCs) PLAYED 2023!!

10. The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. I am NOT! The Visual Novel enjoyer. BUT MAN!! WHAT A DELIGHT!! It honestly brought be around in the genre again after DR3 muddied my enjoyment of it. Totally unexpected and so so SO enjoyable. Which is why I’m giving it a spot on the top 10! Play this game!! It’s free and awesome! I’ve even had people with know knowledge of Sonic tell me they liked this game! I’m serious! Go play it!!!

9. Bastion! LOVED this one! A beautiful game! I honestly don’t have much more to say on it though because it’s kinda just another really good game from Supergiant. I love how many styles of combat exist as options in this game, like, more than Hades had which felt like a lot compared to Transistor (which also had a lot of cool options but you can only use a sword so many ways). Good game! 8/10! Definitely recommend!

8. Frospoken. I’m being generous to this one because despite the super lackluster story. THIS WAS SO FUCKING FUN TO PLAY!!! I literally had such a blast with this one!! The abilities made running around the world so so so fun!! Of course I am disappointed that it didn’t live up to my expectations after following its development through the years, but honestly, they can’t all be bangers and I’m fine with that. Some games are just fun and have sick as fuck boss fights, and sometimes that’s all I need. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it though.

7. Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon. Okay I didn’t think they were gonna fully redo an entire level of the game. When they said “new story content” I thought that was gonna be like four new basically Cyber Space levels and that’s it. ALSO IM SORRY!! I’M SORRY FOR COMPLAINING ABOUT THE DIFFICULTY I’LL BE DIFFERENT NEXT TIME. All in all it was solid as hell. Like I’ve always said with Frontiers, this one GETS Sonic. This is what it’s all about. But Christ this was hard to beat….

6. Kingdom Hearts. The first one. BANGER!!! SUPER FUCKING CUTE. Also Cloud and Yuffie are there :]]]!!! The whole concept of Final Fantasy meets Disney still feels like an absolute buck wild concept to turn into such a well beloved franchise but hey! It’s good shit!! My favorite level overall was probably the Little Mermaid one! I love unique level mechanics!! Excited to play more of these games next year!

5. Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Cannot believe I delayed playing this one for so long! IT WAS SO GOOD!! These games are doing so right by my boys Miles and Ganke. The Spider-Verse movies could never (Taking shots at my own favorite movies). I’m REALLY glad I didn’t skip this before 2 came out. I loved the side quests on this one most of all! Really made you feel like a Friendly Neighbor Spider-Man instead of just Spider-Man. Also Haley I love you so much my sweet girl Haley :]

4. Destiny 2: Lightfall. This might be the lowest a D2 expansion has scored on this list in years. But that’s entirely because the other games this year were FUCKING SWEEET! But GOD. UAGH. I LOVED THIS ONE!!!! IT WAS SO GOOD!!! WHAT THE HELL… Nimbus my best friend Nimbus. AND GRAPPLING HOOK??? YEAHHHHH!!! God Strand is a fun subclass. It definitely doesn’t beat Stasis for me right now but it is SOOOOOOO FUNNNNNN. I loveee itttt. It was so exciting to start unraveling more about the Witness. Also the seasons this year? Mostly bangers!! We got a Pirate Season AND a Dragon Season?!?! WOOOOO!!!!!

3. Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. MOTHER!!! FUCKING!!!!!! DRAGONS!!!!!!!!!! DRAGONS!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! DRAGON BOSS FIGHT!!! WOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!! LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO! 10/10 THIS GAME ROCKS. BEST ZELDA GAME. DRAGONSS!!!!!!!

2. Lethal Company! God this game rules. Enough to surpass the other games on this list purely because it’s gotten me through this whole month. It’s designed in a way that it’s always fun to come back to and it’s just been hours of fun with my besties! Plus it looks fucking stellar. Literally peak. 10/10, cannot recommend this one enough.

1. SPIDA-MAN!!!!!! 2!!!!!!!!!!!! Was so fucking good HOOOLLLYYYYY SHIT! I literally have raved on and on about this game and honestly I could just keep going. The gameplay was PHENOMENAL!!! The characters were so good. It was SUCH a good take on the Black Suit and Venom AND a really cool take on Kraven’s Last Hunt!!!!!!!!! Literally I couldn’t have asked for more from this game! It’s earned a spot as one of my all time favorites!!! :D

{ I didn't get to ramble about The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog because I wasn't on this blog when it dropped, but for real, you guys, it's probably my favorite Amy Rose portrayal to date—

Just... she tried to bust out of the back room with her spare hammer. And it broke. And instead of telling anyone, she hid it because she was too embarrassed to admit to it.

She gets so excited about winning her birthday mystery game herself that she runs off without you and refuses to share anything, gets stuck on accusing Shadow, and is so apologetic and sweet when she realizes she was not only wrong, but he was trying to buy her a gift—!

Like, the version of Amy Rose where a lot of her mistakes happen because her strongest emotions override her common sense? I love that. I love writing where her vigor and passion is the double-edged sword that saves and trips her without it meaning she's innately stupid or selfish. It's such a fun and engaging theme for her character and I am still so happy that it's alive somewhere in the official media. That! Is so! Awesome! }

Current obsessions: Fallout (focus on New Vegas but the show is also awesome), Ultrakill, and Sonic the Hedgehog. One of these things is not like the others.

As Sonic had said in my other post, “Sharing is caring.” So, here’s another little piece I started working on this early morning while it rained :)

Title: The Blue Hour

Rating: TBD

Typically, the hero of Mobius slept in every morning he could, his days of adventuring and socializing eventually making him crash at the end, so it came as no surprise when he awoke a few minutes before afternoon to an empty bed but a homemade breakfast at the kitchen table, lovingly prepared by his husband. Unlike Sonic, the dark hedgehog was an early bird, preparing for work on a weekday before the first light broke out, and as for on a weekend, well that remained a mystery to the hero - one that he never bothered to investigate.

Still, there were a few rare times when the blue hedgehog awoke at surprisingly an early hour, partially conscious since he usually went to the bathroom or kitchen for a quick glass of water during this time. He would head straight back to bed and cuddle up against Shadow until sleep would take him away again.

Then, there was today.

Upon waking up, the first thing he caught was the rain landing on the glass window over his head. Having had a big part in the construction of their home, Sonic went crazy with the planning of the house's windows. They were everywhere. Big and small, wide and narrow, on every wall in the living room and high above in their bedroom; there was just no way that a single spot in their household would be devoid of natural sunlight and the breath-taking view of Mother Nature. Therefore, it was only right that the first thing emerald eyes saw was the strong sapphire blue tone of the sky with grey clouds scattered across its canvas through the roof light. A drizzle was showering this part of Mobius, the fine raindrops falling across the vast glass with muffled rhythmic thumps.

The second thing he felt rather than saw was the light breeze that danced across his exposed skin. Shifting his head to the side, he learned that it was because the balcony doors were parted open, the only barrier between the inside and outside was the white sheer curtains that gently swayed, seeming to follow the beat of the rain hitting the balcony floor. The soothing sound now clearer to his blue ears with being fully awake. Perhaps if he matched his breathing to the light shower sprinkling outside, he could persuade himself into another nap.

Slow blinking was the first sign of his idea working, but an arm coming to wrap itself around his waist halted the process. It was at that moment that Sonic realized it was Sunday morning, guessing around five or something close to that. Being careful to not wake the other, the hero carefully moved his head to look over to his other side, silently surprised by meeting a pair of shining rubies.

And lastly, he found out he wasn't the only one awake.

"Shadow."

Sounding less of a question and more of a statement, the hybrid still answered him, his gaze steady on his husband. "Sonic."

The hero released a wistful sigh at hearing the mellow tone of the agent's voice, nuzzling a tan muzzle and to his delight, the gesture was reciprocated with a delicate kiss to the crown of his head. One of many. Balancing his weight on his arm, Shadow leaned over for his face to directly hover over the younger hedgehog, trailing a path of chaste kisses down to fawn lips; meanwhile, his other hand started at Sonic's cheek, caressing it with his thumb, and steadily, it traveled down his jaw, neck, and shoulder. Tattooing his touch onto every curve and crevice, the black hedgehog treaded his fingers down peach fur, knowing he evoked a path of goosebumps from his husband in his wake, but it wasn't until he secured his hand on the blue waist again that the pleasurable sighs turned to a stuttering gasp.

With a last kiss to the speedster's collarbone, Shadow pulled away to stare down at his lover's eyes, noting how they were blown wide and radiating nothing but fondness and love for the hybrid. He was more than happy to drown in them forever.

A peach hand came to tangle itself in striped quills, the other rested at the elbow of Shadow's outstretched arm that didn't move from its place on his waist. Whatever the hybrid was thinking, it had a smile breaking across his face and his ruby eyes softening. It was a gorgeous sight, and what made it a million times better was that this expression, the tenderness exuding from the smallest details, was only ever unveiled from the usual stoic confines of the agent's face for him.

For Sonic - the person that Shadow profusely loved and would always do so for the rest of their lives.

"I love you."

And by chaos, whenever he spoke them out loud yet so quietly, especially in the middle of an embrace like right now, it made the hero want nothing more than to cry, permanently stay in this moment and cherish his lover for eternity because even time wouldn't stop them from being together.

Instead of becoming tearful, the blue hedgehog mirrored his partner's smile, gingerly bringing his face down for their noses to brush against each other, and whispered his undying confession, too. "And I love you."

In the next beat, their lips met, both of them fluttering their eyes close to memorize how their mouths tasted, how they felt, how they moved perfectly in tandem, and how they were made for each other, no one else just them.

ok but can we talk about Sonic's characterization in Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog for a minute?

Spoilers ahead

Sonic only appears in about a third of the Murder of Sonic game, but his characterization in there is one of my FAVORITE characterizations that I've seen in him in years. Yes, even slightly beating Frontiers (and I adore Frontiers, just for the record). Sonic here embodies all the things I love most in him. It's amazing. Here's a list of why he's great

He is unassuming.

From the very beginning of this game, Sonic is so humble. Like, actually humble.

When the conductor speaks with him and thanks him genuinely for fighting against Eggman, Sonic doesn't make a snarky face and be like "all in a day's work!" or something humble-braggy like that (which frankly is something I feel he would do in the comics). Instead, Sonic is surprised and genuinely expresses how it's no big deal and that he's just glad the conductor and his family are safe.

Sonic is just a guy who loves adventure. He's not trying to get attention or impress anybody—he's just happy people are safe and well. I love how that is shown here. He doesn't need to tell people how selfless and kind and good he is, he just is. Sonic doesn't need or want to tell people what he stands for. He doesn't care what others think. He doesn't think about his identity constantly; he just is. (In my opinion, people who feel the need to constantly tell you what their character is like rarely actually have the traits they describe. If they actually are those things, it will come out naturally in their speech and actions.) In this game, Sonic simply is. What is this, late 2000s Sonic?? It's amazing.

2. He is encouraging in a private way.

One of the biggest reasons Sonic felt off to me in Forces (even though I have a soft spot for that game) is because there, he constantly spouts off in a very public way stuff about friendship and not letting fear own you and how 'we can do anything if we stick together', etc. Sonic does believe all of those things, and he is definitely optimistic, but it's largely internal. It's instinctive. Sonic loves to encourage people around him, but he does it on an individual, one-on-one basis. He does this with Shahra in Secret Rings, with Merlina in Black Knight, regularly with Tails, and here with the main character when they get concerned about how they weren't assertive enough when they first felt Sonic was in danger.

Sonic doesn't just brush off the main character's concern either. He addresses and recognizes it for what it is, empathizing with them and helping them feel understood. Only after that does he recommend a way forward in his wonderful Sonic way, which encourages the main character and helps them find strength. It's so natural and it's awesome!

3. Sonic is selfless, also in an unassuming way.

When Sonic starts coming to, after briefly confirming Espio hit him with the dart (since Tails asked), Sonic instantly focuses on the safety of his friends.

He hasn't fully recovered yet at all and he IMMEDIATELY focuses on protecting his friends and it's AWESOME. He can't even fully speak at this point and just ajsahdfjadsjlajf. This aspect of Sonic is much more consistently done in the games and was beautifully done in Frontiers, so it's not nearly as big a deal here but I am still so happy about the consistency.

4. Sonic is SO AMAZING AND SWEET WITH HIS DEAR FRIEND AMY.

Need I say more? :)

This game was released as a joke, and yet it was incredible??? EVERYONE was so well characterized in this! I'm gonna be thinking about this game for a very long time.

Sonic the Hedgehog Analyzer, Issue #8: Silent Support

Welcome to the last Issue of this Arc, where we can already see from the cover that this one is going to be quite interesting.

It starts out with Sonic running through another of Eggman’s bases and smashing several Badniks, all while being observed by someone who also helps him out with going through the building. However, before we learn who this “Silent Support” is, we encounter another familiar character.

It’s Silver the Hedgehog, and I guess you have all probably guessed that Silver is among the cast of my favorite characters. You’re right, but Silver is actually in the top group, right behind Shadow. I loved him in Archie!Sonic and I love him IDW!Sonic. He’s such a sweet dork here. X3

As Sonic and Silver are about to get attacked by another Badnik, when the robot suddenly gets shot by a blast energy, leading to my heart melting at Silver’s excited expression as he tells Sonic about the Guardian Angel. Apparently, Silver had been saved several times by this person.

Sonic figures that Silver is a fanboy, but Silver remains oblivious to Sonic’s teasing, noting how the future is a wasteland devoid of anything... aside metallic plant life. It’s some really clever foreshadowing here, using Silver to tell us that there is something wrong and that Neo Metal Sonic might not be the only problem.

As Sonic and Silver continue on their way, discussing the situation, they find the Guardian Angel - Whisper the Wolf - trying to break a door using her Wispon. I noted it during Tangle’s introduction, but I’ll add it here as well: Whisper, along with Tangle, is one of the only IDW!Sonic characters who had the honor to appear in a video game, namely Sonic Forces: Speed Battle.

I also really like Whisper’s design. Speaking of which, Whisper gets scared by Silver, hiding from him and Sonic. Silver is a little dejected, noting how he’s a big fan, but Sonic figures that Whisper just prefers to work solo and not be part of a crowd.

Sonic does ask her for help, with Whisper’s Wisp friends surrounding Sonic as he explains that he helped them out before, which earns Whisper’s trust.

After Silver lifts the door with his psychokinesis, they’re immediately confronted by more Badniks, leading to another awesome battle, with a special shout-out to the combo down below:

While Silver and Sonic are smashing the Badniks, Whisper gets trapped under some rubble, but her Wisps are ready to protect her. Fortunately, Silver helps her, with Sonic finishing off the biggest Badnik.

As for Silver, he is just happy to be able to work with Whisper, even if she’d rather be alone... However, he does point out that she already has her own team, having the Wisps who are more than willing to help her.

As Whisper gets up, she prepares to smash Eggman’s computer with a rather determined look on her expression, the kind we certainly didn’t expect from her. Sonic stops her, telling her they can continue tearing the place apart, but they need to extract the information they need to figure out Neo Metal’s plan. Whisper stops, but not without appearing to be quite troubled.

As for Neo Metal’s plan?

Before we can get the big reveal, we shift to Knuckles and Amy, with Knuckles sensing something being wrong with the Master Emerald. They’re called by Sonic and Silver, who tell the two to call everyone else.

We then shift focus to Neo Metal Sonic, who has not only taken over Angel Island, blocking it from the rest of the world, but also made himself a throne on the top of the Master Emerald.

Yeah, this is bad.

Gotta say it's been tricky finding non-shipping fics and awesome dated fics (since ive noticed most stuff on ao3 are from movie-verse). I must find these smaller gems and give them love *shakes fist*

title is pretty self explanatory, tails gets to act like the 8 year old he is. this is at 2 chapters out of 6 and might not get completed, but! the great thing about 5 + 1 fics is that each chapter can be taken independently! if anything this is two cute fics for the price of one!

for each of these, if you read them, please comment and show the writers some love! especially for the ao3 fics as these are pretty recent and the writers would probably love some attention. but even 2 tails and a blur was updated in 2019 so i’m sure the author still cares about this series. i think i myself still need to leave a comment or two on the third one, which i’m gonna do after posting this and re-reading it. 🧡

Sexuality Headcanon: this hedgehog is gay. he is gay I think out of all the sonic characters this is the sexuality headcanon i am most 100% solid and sure on. that hedgehog is gay

Gender Headcanon: OH NONBINARY 1000000% Perhaps even agender Idk he is also figuring it out because he's from 50 years ago and just woke up and learned about all this like months ago. But this hedgehog has never given a fuck about being part of any gender binary and he doesnt have it all figured out but he knows that not being a boy or a girl has felt more him than anything before and he's awesome basically

A ship I have with said character: well I've mentioned in the sonic post that I do like s/nkn/xadow and thinks that when actually written true to their characters they have a lot of interesting dynamics that could say a lot about each other. but nobody is normal about them and actually writes them as Them so instead everytime i see the respective ships i get annoyed. but also its not that big of a deal. anyways kn/xadow in particular has so much potential like god when you are the last of your kind and have no surviving family and you have been easily manipulated by bad people into being tools for them and you'd think that'd be a unique experience nobody could relate to but actually he gets it. He understands what its like having a past you still dont know all about and desperately wanting to know what your here for, what you exist for-- and youre both slowly figuring it out. together. anyways

A BROTP I have with said character: I already talked about it but godddd shadow and rouge and just team dark as a whole. when he woke up he pretty much had nothing and nobody left for himself even the whole planet has moved on from him but then he makes his first like close relationships again with team dark and they mean. so so much to him. Like they Know but also they dont know just how important to him they are, to have people once again he can trust wholeheartedly to be there for him when he falls and he will be there for them too. OH I FORGOT TO MENTION HIM AND TAILS TOO. he's like the awkward cool and quiet older brother that just kinda slowly happened because tails needed some of his assistance on an experiment and then the moment shadow showed that he was following a lot of the tech talk and even giving his own thoughts back well it was over. theyre nerds and talk about nerd things now every time shadow visits and hold a lot of respect and admiration for the other. they think the other is so cool, basically.

A NOTP I have with said character: Well sh/douge obviously but also sh/dria like FUCKING S TOP THATS HIS FUCKING SISTER. Also even if she wasn't like making that relationship out to be romantic just cheapens the whole thing so much and just feels like bad writing and one of those things where people cannot see that a "boy" can girl deeply about a girl without it being a romantic thing. theyre siblings and best friends shut the fuck up!!!!!

well I think his favorite pastimes are working on his silly motorcycle, taking care of his like 10 chao, reading and listening to music.... he doesnt relax much but he likes to read about flora and fauna a lot i think... As well as different modern science books I think living on the ark has made him a science nerd and he wants to catch up on what he's missed in those 50 years.... I also talked about this in call but I think everyone should know that Shadow very much has a sweet tooth I think. There really wasn't many Sweet food in the ark so its all a very new experience for him and he likes stuff like cheesecake and ice cream so much. I also think at the same time he is a pickier eater than most mobians especially when it comes to more unconventional foods like insects. He may be a hedgehog but he grew up on human food and human food standards he sees rouge putting like mealworms in her salad or something and he looks at her like she's insane. sonic offers him crickets and he makes the excalibur face. Also lets throw in another headcanon for funsies but I think shadow kind of has an interesting detachment, almost, to his past self. he remembers most of his past now, and very much still holds the same attachments and love for gerald and maria and to his home, but what I mean is like. His personality, perspective, outlook... they were Different back then, and between the repeated memory loss and all of the trauma he almost feels himself to be a separate person from the shadow of 50 years ago. for any aitsf mutuals think like date but on a less extreme level. Anyways this stuff doesn't come up too much cause there really isn't anyone left who knew him 50 years ago, but lets say something like in the comics happened where he got to see maria again for a temporary time. She would talk to him and want to spend time with him the same way she did 50 years ago but I think he'd realize the Shadow she's seeing is not the Shadow he is. Or at least, not what he thinks he is. does that make sense.

General opinion on said character: he is the coolest character in the world hes so awesome and silly and i care so much about him shadow has always been my favorite character even when i was little so ysee i think about him lots.

Odd question, considering I don't really particularly participate in that other than acknowledgement that it's a thing that exists, lol. I don't really practice the act of it much, to be honest.

But in all seriousness, we all got one somewhere, and as long as it's all in good fun, I don't judge y'all even if it's not my favorite characters in particular.

I do find Silver Eyes Graphic Novel Trilogy William Afton to be a fun design concept that has been really well polished by fans who have been able to really add a really amusing flair to him, and I actually do like Glitchtrap's design itself to be very appealing when it comes to translating that to artistic pieces, both humorous and serious. Then there's a handful of of artists who have managed to make Springtrap so affable in thier portrayal, than I can almost see how he was able to really talk himself out of trouble as much as we're supposed to believe. I want to see more of him almost as much as I want to see someone take a spanner to his knees for his crimes, lol. He's just a very fascinating character that has been built up way better in the fanbase than the actual canon content, to be honest.

That said, let me take a moment to look at the Tumblr Sexyman wiki for a comprehensive list of anyone I might know of, so I can give a decent answer worth your time so I know what counts as one these days.

((... Oh, wow, apparently the Daycare Attendant and Glamrock Freddy are on the list, that's peculiar, hmm, I see them more as potential guardian-esque characters than actual sexymen, but each to their own, I guess))

If I had to choose one, I'd have to say that I really enjoyed that one particular period of time where people were just obsessed with Lego Joker

So I'd probably pick Lego Joker as a definitive choice.

If course, I do remember the time everyone was going crazy over a clock, tho

I distinctively remember this clock being drawn so bishonen like. In fact, the Sexyman style art was probably how I even found out about "Don't Hug Me I'm Scared", which was an awesome series.

When I was a teenager, tho, you can bet your sweet bippy I was a Shadow the Hedgehog fangirl, yes. There was a fair amount of fanart I liked and had printed out off the computer and had taped up on the wall in the back of my closet behind my stack of comics. We didn't call it "sexymen" back in the day, tho, we called that "smexy". 👀
