#my story with Sokkla? :'D

If you could change anything in the original ATLA storyline (besides making Sokkla happen) what would it be?

Uhhhh well with all my complaints across the years pertaining ATLA I don't think there's just one (1) singular thing I'd change.

Off the top of my head, I immediately thought I'd make Zuko's character and story more coherent :'D but then there's ALSO Iroh, who also needs to be more coherent.

I'd make the White Lotus an active faction throughout the war rather than just being Iroh's connections, initially, only to become the Avengers at the last minute. Hell... I don't even think I'd make Iroh part of the White Lotus, a group that's fighting for what's right should not readily spread its arms and embrace Fire Lord Azulon's warmongering son, much less let him be their leader :'D If anything, they can be a mystery Iroh spends the whole show trying to reveal, and we'd watch him prove himself to them in order to ever be deemed worthy of joining the group because NOW he has the right beliefs and is hoping to do right by the world. His membership there would not be a done deal from the get-go.

I'd also gladly make Ozai a more complex character, far worthier of being a final villain.

I'd give Toph an actual, challenging arc.

I'd make Katara learn from her mistakes so much more than she ever did.

I'd make sure Mai and Ty Lee actually learn to question what needs to be questioned rather than redeeming them just because they sided with Zuko one time.

I'd flesh out Suki way more too.

I'd give Aang more respect when it comes to his tragedy, and make his morals more consistent (which is part of respecting him and his culture that the OG show just... did whenever it suited it).

I'd absolutely rewrite every romantic relationship (I mean, even if Sokkla is canon in this dream scenario here, Maiko and Kataang still would be canon too, right?) so that they're nowhere near as unbalanced as they feel in the OG.

I'd hint at energybending all along rather than just keeping it as a last minute secret.

I'd most likely not kill Jet nor imply I killed him. Just don't see the need for it.

Probably would either give Hama a different approach or not have her around at all.

Combustion Man would also need a full rework or be deleted.

Zhao would also get more depth and complexity rather than just being around to make Zuko look better.

Sooooo... there are a lot of things worth changing if you ask me :'D but as far as priorities go, I think I'd definitely fix Zuko first out of all these things. I haven't ranted about his character for so many years in vain, even if Iroh were to stay the same, I'd love to see a Zuko who learns to think for himself and doesn't just rely on Iroh's guidance and on doing whatever he thinks Iroh would want him to do. :'D

Sokkla Saturday Wk 3: Earth

My humble submission for sokkla saturday 2023 week 3. not quite good enough to put up on AO3 or FFN, but good enough to make it to tumblr, ig. very heavily inspired by Pictures of the Past, figured it could sorta work for when the kids start asking questions about what did mom do in the EK during the 100 years war *ps: there is the word 'earth' in the fic so that counts as meeting the theme *pps: TalesofOnyxBats is a goated Sokkla writer no cap fr anyways...... ******* It was going to happen at some point, they figured. After all, they figured that their kids had inherited enough intellect between the two of them to put two and two together. Or at least, have a good theory as to why everytime they travelled to Ba Sing Se (which wasn't often, but enough for them to have a semi decent idea of what the Upper Ring looked like.), their mother would often meet them at their granduncle's tea shop in disguise. Or why they would stay in the United Republics' embassy grounds instead of the Earth King's palace, among other questions.  __________________________________

Airship Lounge

Somewhere over Full Moon Bay

If it was any consolation, when the question finally came they were travelling in their private airship instead of on the ground in Ba Sing Se itself.

"Mom?" 

"Yes Miska?"

"Why do you need to put on disguises every time we go to Ba Sing Se?"

"Well…-"

"Also why can't we stay at the Earth King's palace? Aunt Katara and Uncle Aang and their family always stay there." Risa asked. 

Turning to her husband, Azula shot him a glance, which Sokka immediately understood. Taking a deep breath, she answered "Meet me in our room in 10 minutes.". 

"But wh-"

"We'll answer your questions then." Sokka cut them off, his voice taking on a serious tone that Risa and Miska understood to mean I will not repeat myself.  _________________________________

Azula and Sokka's bedroom

"Sokka?" Azula asked, her gaze fixed on the carpet of their room. 

"W-what do I tell them?" Azula asked nervously, simultaneously wanting to tell her kids the truth while not wanting to tarnish their image of her. 

Taking her hands in his, Sokka replied "As much or as little as you think they need to know. It's your story to tell, not mine."

"You were there when…-"

"We didn't know any better, Azula. Whatever you choose, know this: I will always still love you." he replied, kissing the back of her hand. __________________________________________ __________________________________________

Meanwhile, outside their room…

"Riri?"

"Do you think mom and dad are mad at us?"

"I-I don't think so." 

"You saw how mom reacted right? D-d-do you think we shou-"

"If we did they would have shut it down immediately, not ask us to see them in 10 minutes."

"I suppose you have a point."

"Once again, your big sister proves that she is always right." 

"Uh huh…like dating both Min Seok and Sakura clearly wasn't going to lead to…whatever that was."

"A momentary lapse in judgement." she handwaved, not eager to relive that particular set of memories.

"So you say, so you say. I suppose there is no reason to delay any longer?" Miska replied, giving their parents' cabin a quick few raps.

"Mom? Dad?"

"Come in."

Closing the door behind them, the twins waited with bated breath for whatever their parents had to say. "First off," Azula began,  "both of you aren't in trouble. That said, please stay back after this Risa, your father and I have some things we would like to discuss regarding how you conduct your…relationships.", to which Risa swallowed a gulp.

"But back to the topic at hand, what I am about to tell you is only for your ears alone and no one else outside this room. Do I make myself clear?"

When the twins nodded, she continued, giving Sokka's hand a squeeze as she did so. "How much of the Hundred Years War did your teachers tell you about?"

"Um…only that dad was part of the team that defeated the Fire Nation and ended it? Oh and that the Fire Nation staged a coup that toppled Ba Sing Se in a single night and occupied it for six months." Miska answered.

"Mom?"

"Yes Risa?"

"Were you the one who staged the coup and overthrew Kuei?"

"I wasn't alone in that, but yes, I was the one who planned and carried it out, among other things." Azula replied, before briefly explaining what had happened that night in the palace, though there were details that she omitted, choosing to set that aside for another time. If nothing else, they deserve to at least hear my side of the events, she thought.

With bated breath, she leaned against Sokka, a fluttering sensation in her stomach as she hoped against hope that her kids wouldn't outright disassociate themselves from her given her past or worse, hate her for her actions (who could blame them, really, she thought).

As the silence continued, Azula felt the urge to fill the space growing within her and just as she could no longer resist, they stood up and wrapped her in a hug, taking her by surprise as they let their simple action speak on their behalf. At this, her eyes started to tear as her worst fears proved unfounded and she hugged her kids tightly in response, even as Sokka wrapped his arms around them all. 

"Thank you Risa, Miska." she whispered.

I was not a friend of modern au's until I read this "long-shot" xD. The whole concept is very interesting. I especially like how Sokka is portrayed in this one. His personality and actions make sense and doesn't get influenced by other's. His relationship with Azula is very cute. The families are described very well too.

Sooo here we go:

Tyzula: my favorite female Azula ship because it was my first Azula ship and in general the first Azula story’s I’ve read, I just love the ship but I don’t like Ty Lee kinda ending up as Azula's care taker

Sokkla: my favorite male ship if not even Azula ship, what can I say, besides that I really love it because have you seen the fanart, community and story’s, they’re all incredible, also they fit well together in so many levels.

Azutara: I haven’t read much of it but what I’ve read was really to my liking, especially the story’s of @theowritesfiction and @juniperhillpatient are really good. Furthermore a while back I’ve admitted they’re the most attractive ATLA pairing, both are also bad ass lady’s and I see working well together.

Maizula: For me a very underrated ship that I definitely need to read more of, also here so far what I’ve read I only liked, I especially have the maizula story in my head from @bellatrixobsessed1 where Azula becomes a little dirt gremlin and meets Mai in her flowershop.

Azulaang: Im warming up to it. I really like the Azulaang story’s of sablefalls. It needs much character development to happen where I can see this happening but I’m not against it.

Azuki: Tbh I never thought about this ship but I can see them definetly working well together. The only story I’ve read was Fading Falsehoods from @bellatrixobsessed1 and I liked it very much.

Jetzula: Why not, I’ve never read a jetzula story so it’s hard to really judge

Azula/Kuei: definetly a crack pairing for me but @dreaming-in-fire story made me curious

Azula/OC I’ve so far only know two good OC's that were very good with Azula and one of them is Hoelun from @lightdancer1 story’s. I adore them. If the OC is really written as character and not some self insert I definitely can see some good romance story developing.

Tophzula:

My ATLA BROTP, I’ve never thought about them being in a relationship romantically but there was recently some nice fanart that made me rethink on that point.

Now the most controversial Zucest:

I have nothing against it and I’ve read story’s from @hello-nichya-here, especially when my mind is in the gutter also the story from mon ami @loiseau-lyre is pretty good, but only if this kinda story’s are to your liking if not then don’t read it.

So I have my favorites but still would consider myself a Azula multi shipper because I couldn’t even give a Lego brick about the ATLA canon. The Alta canon is not salvageable for me in its current state if I consider the comics as canon, but that is something I never will do, muahahaha…. Oh yes I very much despise them, but I have to stop before I rant to much about the comics and other post show material released in the past years.

I'm always a bit nervous when I enter a new fandom. It feels kind of like the first day at a new school. You've been to schools in the past, you have some idea of how this works, but every community is different. You don't know who the mean girls are or who's the most fun to hang out with. And nobody likes eating their lunch at a table for one.

All this to say, thank you for sending me this @takawbelle!! You just made me feel so much better and less alone. I really hope you enjoy what I'm working on for Zutara and Azukka... ;)

Fanfic writer ask game: M, S, Y

M: What's the weirdest AU scenario you've ever come up with? Did it turn into a story?

It's probably a close one between this and the 'Aunt Wu is Ursa's older sister and adopts Azula despite her protests' AU, but I think the weirdest was the Your Princess Is In Another Prison AU. On Ji, Hide and Shoji, the kids from the Fire Nation school in The Headband, are inspired by Kuzon, the colonial boy who despite only attending for a few days taught them all a valuable lesson about the importance of fun and freedom and adventure. They adapt a strategy exercise they learned from On Ji's older brother, who learned it in the military, to instead be a game where they play as a group of adventurers solving mysteries and fighting monsters (called Dancing and Dragons, or D&D for short), and assume that this is the closest they can come to a proper adventure. That is, until they hear that the infamous traitor Prince has staged a coup and locked the Princess, hero of the Fire Nation, far away. Obviously, being aspiring adventurers, they have to go save the Princess, and maybe show her how to have fun as well l, just like Kuzon did for them. (And yes, On Ji will look absolutely dashing to Azula when she rescues her, carrying her out in her arms like a knight in shining armor. She's crushing hard, and On Ji is no better)

It hasn't turned into a story beyond this, and I've still got plenty of other fics I'm working on so it probably won't be, but the idea is fun at least.

S: How do you feel about fan art inspired by your writing?

I would probably explode from happiness if someone read something I wrote and liked it enough to make fan art of it. Like, genuinely, I feel like I'd be on cloud nine for a solid month if that happened.

Y: What are your thoughts on your personal satisfaction with something you've written vs. the popularity of your stories? Do you tend to be most satisfied with your most popular stories?

That kind of depends really. Like, generally the stories I'm most satisfied by are also the ones I feel are better written, because maybe I was more excited for the premise, which I think (I hope) translates in my writing. And those stories do tend to be more popular. But popularity is also heavily impacted by things like ships and tags and the community it reaches and the like, and also depends on if you go by things like hits or bookmarks or kudos of comments or- you get the gist. Like for instance my Yuezula fic. It doesn't reach a very wide audience because not many people look for or are interested in Yuezula, it's a rarer ship, but those who do, interact more than readers of my Sokkla fics, which has more casual readers as well I feel.

But yeah, to answer the actual question, I guess the stories I am most satisfied by personally, I am more satisfied by because I'm happier with how I wrote them, which often (but not always) correlates with popularity up to a point.

How I feel about this character: I feel like my blog speaks for itself on this one but the basics are that, 1. she's one of my all time favorite characters ever. I've loved her since she sparkled across my TV screen over ten years ago lmao. 2. I think that she's a very complex and compelling character--a very multi-faceted character with enough shades of grey to make the audience think. 3. She's a sympathetic/tragic character. Her story is heart-wrenching imo and for a good number of people she is relatable in some way.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Pretty much everyone honestly except for stuff like Zhao/Azula & Ozai/Azula. That kind of stuff isn't my cup of tea to say the least. But Sokkla, TyZula, and Cupholder girl/Azula are my favorites. I also have a soft spot for Teo/Azula and Jinzula. But this changes constantly. I've written for Jetzula, Azulaang, Azutara, Yue/Azula, Toph/Azula, Mai/Azula, and I think I even wrote a Song/Azula one. xD So almost anything goes here.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Brotp would definitly be Azula/Toph. Though I wrote ship stuff for this one it's more of a brotp. I am also very fond of Azula and Zuko as a bickering sibling power team. A cursed duo of firey chaos.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I've mentioned before that I think that most of my opinions are more controversial (most things regarding Azula seem to be). But the one thing that even the fan seem to disagree with me on is that I don't think that she's a lesbian. I totally support and respect people who do but I see her as bi and possibly ace. The ace part is wishful thinking. xD Frankly, depending on my mood, I can also see her being aro/ace--she's so goal and career oriented that I feel like she might just not be interested in romance period and seeks fulfillment elsewhere. Plust the media could use some more aro/ace rep.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Happiness. Tbh it's more or less what I wish didn't happen; I wish that they didn't reduce her to 'the madwoman'. I wish that her mental illness was handled with more care. But alongside that I'd like to see her as an anti-hero/an extremely morally grey protagonist. I'd like to see her with a redemption arc that still allows her to be her sneaky and cunning self with all of the edges we love her for already.

my OTP: At the moment it's Sokkla and Azula/Cupholder girl.

my cross over ship: I've written quite a bit of Azula/Acxa. I don't have as many crossover ships for her as I do some of my other favorite characters xD

non fact: Gonna try to think up one that I haven't posted yet. I feel like Azula has both Atychiphobia & Achievemephobia--a fear of failure and success respectively. Atychiphobia is fairly obvious in my opinion. Azula, as a perfectionist and an over-achiever dreads failure. But I think that after the comet she has developed a paradoxical fear of success and the pressure that comes with it. More than that, she's afraid of to succeed because she has seen how the carpet can get pulled right out from under her and she can lose everything. All of her successes turn into losses and so I feel like there's a part of her that would be afraid to achieve things for fear of possible failure and loss if that makes sense. This is a real problem because she is a very goal driven person and she doesn't like to become idle. She craves the success that she fears.

How will sokka and azula kids look and how many?

I probably have answered this question here or there, in the past... but as I have no idea how much you'd have to scrung up through my blog to find the answer, I'll just respond anyway :)

My current plans are for Sokka and Azula to have three kids. The oldest is a girl, the middle one a boy, and the youngest another girl. They're called Hotaru, Shun and Yuuna, respectively.

There's a few artworks I've drawn that feature the whole family, but I think the best one, up to date, would be this one:

There's other artworks where I can show you what they look like, if you want more... as well as a few sketches, namely for character design purposes.

As shown here, Sokka doesn't luck out at all and has to cope with three bending kids, no less! He thinks the last one, Yuuna, might not be a bender at all... then one day she starts waterbending :'D the bright side for him, however, is that the two girls do love his non-bending warrior fighting techniques so they both learn how to use weapons from him, no matter if they're benders.

This is another early design for them, muuuch earlier than the other ones I've inserted so far, Shun's hairstyle has definitely changed a lot since then (also, the ages written into this sketch may not be accurate anymore, I'm currently not too sure of how big the age gaps between them will be, but I do want Shun and Yuuna to be closer in age to each other)

Lastly... a take on the teenaged/young adult babies!

Not sure if this is the picture you were hoping for xD but it's probably my favorite sketch of the three kiddos, fully grown and taking after their epic parents in the best of ways. Yuuna will finally settle on a hairstyle that honors the Water Tribe's traditional styles far more than the Fire Nation styling of her older siblings.

Anyway! Hope that was thorough enough xD no idea if I've posted all these pictures before, but these are the three little Sokkla steambabies in this story :D

I definitely associate the fics “The Dragon of the West’s Guide to Flirting” and “Smirks and Post-It’s” with you, which leads me to believe you’re probably a campy, fun person with an awesome sense of humor. I can totally vibe with that.

The Dragon of the West's Guide to Flirting - this fic was initially from Iroh's point of view, and he had a much more prominent role as a matchmaker. but zk fandom has a ton of amazing fics like that and I was worried I wasn't doing Iroh justice (I'm sorry but wise old man matchmaker is actually a vv hard mindset to get into), so I changed it! I like the story being from Zuko's POV much better, because we get first-row seats to his embarrassment :D

smirks and post-its - when I was in 10th? 11th? grade, one girl at a fairly prestigious competition went 'missing' and showed up three hours later with a hickey. it was the talk of the town. so the whole time I was writing this fic, I kept thinking about her, because without hearing about that incident, I would have never considered writing about katara and zuko finding love because of Model UN. it's just such a laughable idea

Fic-to-Art #29: Azula helps Sokka beat her guards at Mahjong

Sometimes, we simply need to fall back on chill moments to feel better about life, and I think my Patreons thought so too xD this month's prompt was teamwork, and I was quite surprised to see the winning prompt happened to be one of the most lighthearted moments of Sokkla teamwork in the story: Azula sneakily gives away false information about the tiles Sokka had been gathering... thus, her guards discarded the tiles he needed to attain victory. They're all quite shocked and confused by the outcome, while the co-conspirators are, of course, quite pleased instead.

This takes place on Azula's barge, unfortunately I still don't really know how to draw it without making a mess, but I hope I'll get better at it the more I do it :'D I hope the Mahjong tiles look okay too. This artwork kind of feels like a callback, or even a redraw, of one I did maaaany years ago, but Sokka wasn't in that one because that game would have been the ones Azula played while Sokka was riding Xin Long back to his house. Therefore, drawing them together here was even more gratifying than the first piece was!

The incredible length of Gladiator is a great accomplishment by itself, especially if you consider the writing quality. I think, except for general praises of narrative, character development, writing, etc., it’s difficult to make sweeping, detailed statements about Gladiator as a whole due its length and the sheer amount of topics and narrative structures it has. I’ve already talked a lot about what I enjoy about it in comments on the story itself. It’s definitely in my unordered Top 5 of best fanfictions I’ve ever read, but it also made a big impact on me personally.

Favourite character: I think I’ve said all the main character for this question already, so my answer this time is Xin Long, Goro and my problematic fave Seethus.

Least favourite character: I like every character, even the ones you’re supposed to dislike. Yes, Hahn is annoying, but he’s entertaining. The only character that doesn’t have a redeeming quality is Kuan.

Favourite antagonist: Definitely Seethus because of his potential as a turn coat

Favourite OC: all 3 of my favourites are OCs, so I’ll let that stand

Favourite gladiator: Anyone who waterbends, but the Notorious Stingray specifically

Favorite Suitor or a Suitor I wished would make moves on Azula: This is such a weird question for a fic that’s firmly Azula/Sokka... but I guess June making moves on Azula would be hilarious.

Most Relatable Character: Sokka

Character I’d like to see more: Goro because science and Seethus because I’d like to explore his abilities further.

Favorite Canon (Gladiator canon)Pairing: Sokka/Azula and [Redacted]/[Redacted] :D

Favorite Non-Canon Pairing: Another odd question... but the right answert is Kino/Azula for sure.

I wished to see Sokkla more in/like … : Dressing up is very fun. Otherwise, there’s not much that I like which hasn’t already been done or won’t happen in the future. Maybe more interactions with waterbending or other dragons.

I think Azula & Sokka’s relationship will be revealed when/like/because of …: Them having sex in public. It’s bound to happen eventually :D

I believe at the end of Part 3 …: I think I know too much :)

I've chosen the wrong brush, what lead me to be not satisfied with the coloring. But it was too late and I just accepted it like this. Sooo, let's just pretend Sokka has a scar on his face.;)) It will heal soon. Don't know how it happened. Maybe he fell from the ice or boat while trying to show Azula some water tribe tricks. I have no idea how the urge to write something for this came from to be honest...

This probably a dumb question but I want to know what is sokkla Saturday can you explain it??

The origin of Sokkla Saturday was around 2015 when Sokkaweekly was posting new stories about Sokka pairing with other girls during the weekend (Toph, Azula, Suki). At that time Saturday was dedicated for Sokkla (Sokka + Azula) stories. Then other people including me started to post new Sokkla stories or chapters of existing stories every Saturday. That’s how Sokkla Saturday was born. It was fun activity when it lasted, but as usual all good things has to end.

Then at the end of Summer of 2019 i decided revive Sokkla Saturday and started to make one small Sokkla fanart music video each Saturday.

Now if we talk about recent developments. #sokklasaturday I was talking with one other people on discord about my currently running Sokkla Saturday videos activity and nostalgia hit us. Then we started to brainstorm that it would be good idea to revive Sokkla Saturday where we post fics each Saturday. Other people decided to join in and thats how

Sokkla Saturdays ~ October 3 - November 28, 2020

event was born. There was free form were everyone could suggest prompts and later it was a vote on which prompts should be selected for this event. (You can find the results on @sokkla blog) In this event anyone can join and write new Sokkla story or new chapter to thier existing story according to Saturday’s prompt. Last Saturday’s prompts was:
