Batgirl (2000)
Perhaps my single favourite piece of writing in the comic book medium. This was my introduction to Cassandra Cain, and is the perfect place to get into her. Everyone should read Batgirl #19, and bask in the way it lays out the core of Cass' character with surgical precision. Puckett's Cass is fascinating: a fine balance of absolute confidence in her ability, crushing guilt about her past, a desperation for redemption and to see others redeem themselves, and a fundamental belief in the preservation of life. 1st batgirl on going, very good overall run, do it for Cass everyone its quite literally required reading for cass, babs, and steph. the way kelley puckett is able to explore cass’s character through her relationships with the other bats and the parallels between her and bruce is actually insane. theres so many little details in the visual story telling as well that just make the experience that much better. the fluidity and expressiveness of the art also adds on to the overall experience. it is literally DCs magnum opus Life changing series.
Young Justice (1998)
It's 6-8 fifteen year olds living in a cave, and their only adult supervision is a robot wind machine one of them graffiti-ed all over within the first five minutes of meeting him. The only two with anything even RESEMBLING normal childhoods are the demigod and the son of two billionaires (literally just some guy). They have an alien motorbike and at one point they save the world from aliens by playing baseball. Everyone in it is just so stupid all the time and I love that for them (god bless 🙏) Never has a comic quite that batshit and quite that sincere graced my presence I just love it and I enjoyed reading it
Blue Beetle (2006)
Just a good introduction to a character with a satisfying conclusion. I love you, Jaime, a guy who's just trying to do his best for his loved ones and his local community. I love you Khaji Da, scrungly lil dude speaking in glyphs. I love you, Brenda, and your complicated relationship with your aunt who adores you, but is also a crime lord. I love you Paco, a genuinely good friend. I love Jaime's family and the way they all adjust to Jaime being a superhero. I love the effort made to portray Jaime as a person with community and connections. i looove jaime sososo much he's such a fun protagonist and the developement of his character + his relationship w khaji da is sooo interesting and well written. i love seeing him bond with his little alien bug parasite !! all of the side characters are also so great like brenda and paco are so fun and la dama is suuuch an interesting character. jaime's family is also so lovely they clearly care abt jaime so much and its nice to see a kid superhero with parents who respect and also deeply care abt their kid. the art is also very fun overall its just a really stellar run Quite honestly one of the best written comic runs I've ever read, DC or otherwise. It flips so many standard comic book tropes on their heads and does it well. The main character is the epitome of just some guy and he is my favorite of all time. AMAZING characters. Fresh perspectives on comics tropes that are so overused it's hard to imagine comics without them. Everyone is worthy of respect and treated with dignity, even the villains. Khaji Da's character arc is amazing. And the adults make me laugh so much. Guy and Peacemaker as mentors who IMMEDIATELY recognize this kid is FAR more emotionally mature then they are, so they're not going to bother with that side of mentoring!

Hi hi.
Hi para! I'm writing you to share some theories I got! Since you're one of my favorite blogs.
Hope to not be glogging your asks section...
Luka is an observant calculative person (other than not feeling genuine emotions and empathy like Vivinos made us understand from his behaviour towards the opponents,Hyuna's brother,Hyuna herself etc...) .He has an idea of Till's method to win. I'm talking about what he did in round 2. Then he saw a drastic change in him after Mizi went missing. And again,he knows that Ivan's death has become a trauma for everything that happend in that round. My guess is: Till will be depressed and Luka will manipulate him the same way he did with Mizi,to not let him interrupt the chosen song with another.Just to make sure he will win if he prepared one. And to see his opponents loose their minds and feel satisfied with himself and kiss...their bloody hands I guess. Something may convince Till to not die and fight. In the 7th round there may be a ''fast forward'' in which they show Mizi and Hyuna as prisoners. The aliens may have decided to let them live to obtain informations of the rebels. Till may find out that Mizi is being tortured and go to save her with a parallel similiar to IvanTill ''escape plan''... Luka's knowledge of Hyuna's presence may be a problem too. He may do a mistake and not feel in control. Prioritize Hyuna and say fuck to the Alien Stage. In result we will have a fierce Till tired of everything who clings on the hope to meet Mizi and avenge Ivan.
I'm really curious about your opinion. Please let me know!!! Oh! Do you think the 7th round will be the last? Did vivinos said something about it other than having worked on it for a long time?
It's always a pleasure to scroll and see what you post! Having said that, bye bye!
Hi!!! Hello!!! Thank you so much for this! I fold this ask gently like paper and tuck it into my heart.
This theory is genuinely so cool! I agree with a lot of it as well. Since we didn't get Hyuna and Mizi's interference in ROUND 6, we're most likely going to see it in ROUND 7, just not in the way we hoped we would. I've stated before that I didn't see a reason for them to keep Hyuna and Mizi alive if they were found, but now that you mention it... they're literally the perfect torture tools for Till and Luka. Everything lines up just a little too perfectly.
Honestly, Till finding Mizi again is also the only way I can see him regaining strength. He was actually supposed to see Mizi at the end of ROUND 6 (in the first draft, at least)! I know some people insist that Ivan's sacrifice was to shake Till out of a stupor or encourage him to fight (through anger?), but I just couldn't see it that way. In fact, it seems like his situation just worsened. Genuine rock bottom. He's lost everyone.
I think the only way Till can pick himself up again in such dire and urgent circumstances is if Mizi is involved. Everything in him would reignite in an effort to save her, to sing for her. Her absence was the reason he lost himself in the first place, so it makes sense that she's the only cure for his current predicament. If he saw her, if he knew she was alive and this was his only chance to reach her.... Till is literally going to mega-evolve LMAO. I'm not trying to downplay Ivan's sacrifice, though. I know Till is affected by it too even if he didn't love Ivan the way he loved Mizi. It would be amazing if Till's swan song was a heavy rock piece dedicated to screaming out not only his love, but all his hurt and confusion as well.
The song will no doubt be suited to Luka's taste since Till can be forced to adjust to Luka's style, but I couldn't ever see Luka adjusting to Till's. I have a feeling the song will start out slow with Till at a disadvantage, but a shift happens (Till sees Mizi) and suddenly he starts performing with an overwhelming passion.
Luka losing control because of Hyuna is an incredible thought. I do think he'd lose composure, but not exactly in the panicked way. Instead, I think he'd feel overwhelmed with some kind of intense feeling and maybe even perform in a more crazed manner if he finds out she's been caught. Now both Luka and Till have a strong reason to go all out. After seeing Mizi and Hyuna, they'd need to win. It's impossible for Luka to be an easy or "weak" opponent, and I don't think the sight of Hyuna would necessarily incapacitate his abilities. He's already seen her, after all. He knows she's still alive and that she would inevitably have come back. I feel Luka is a bit more calculated in his approach, so maybe he'd find other ways to get her in his grasp. Maybe if he won Alien Stage again, he'd be granted the privilege to choose a certain prize...
I think ROUND 7 is the last round, but definitely not the last episode (there is a possibility of the ALNST makers finally getting pissed off and throwing Hyuna and Mizi into the ring for another round, though. Not sure if it's a solid and likely possibility, but it's a possibility nothenless). There might be more to tackle regarding the Human Rebellion and the whole pet-alien conflict they seem to be setting up with the story. I believe the original Alien Stage synopsis states that the humans gather to "regain their free will and shape their destiny". We're focused on this particular season of Alien Stage for a reason, and it's most likely because it's the last. Shit hits the fan from here.
This is all just speculation though!! I'll be able to make more educated guesses once they start releasing more ROUND 7 related content. For now, they seem to be taking a well-deserved break.
Thank you for the ask anon!! This was such a wonderful idea to think about.

HOW NCUTI GATWA STOLE (THE SHOW AT) CHRISTMAS.
Gonna be honest, do not care how brash it sounds, Ncuti Gatwa is already my second favorite Doctor. A perfect mesh of fantastic performance and good writing.
Both him and RTD just deliver what's their in my head as the 'Doctor-y bits', the things that make any incarnation of the Doctor feel like the Doctor. The stuff that if lacking can make me not care for an incarnation, or really like an incarnation.
They nail that base of the character while adding new things to make the new incarnation unique and it's wonderful.
The Doctor is an enigmatic, scientist, time traveling, adventurer, investigator, that's so eccentric. And while some criticize RTD for making the Doctor's a bit too human, I personally think he's always been very good at writing Doctor's that feel like aliens who've been around humans for hundreds of years...which is who the Doctor is.
And it makes the Doctor so wonderful.
Never liked when people say some Doctor's don't feel alien...simply because they aren't standard socially awkward. 'Cause that always felt a bit unintentionally mean spirited. There's lots of human's that are bad at social cues and stuff. A lot of them are just plum Autistic. It doesn't make them alien.
RTD makes his Doctor's feel alien by the obvious experience the Doctor has that's above any possible human. Knowledges and sciences above what we human's even know. With enough eccentricities with the way they socialize that show they're so used to being around actual aliens that they're pleasantly surprised when something unusual shows up, and they're right at home alongside it.
Now all that stuff I described is almost constantly there...'cause it is the Doctor'y Bits, but it feels more pushed to the forefront with RTD. While other writers either don't make those the elements that stand out, or they write them in a way that feels...it's hard to describe...But sometimes that stuff is written in a way that feels parody. When I feel like the humor is natural 'cause, 'Who the hell can say they done all this'. It could be a directing or performance thing over writing. It's hard to pinpoint. While focusing too much on making the character quirky to the point they feel a bit too over-the-top to mesh, or possibly maybe even inconsistent with other parts of the characterization that's been established.
It's a magnificent balance in the latest special is what I'm saying.
And thanks to the beauty of the writing, Ncuti gets to play a three dimensional Doctor right off the back. His serious side, his silly side, his teasing side, his self-doubting size, his scientific side, his adventure loving side. It's all there, and he betrays it so convincingly. It somehow feels like he's already done a full season when this is his first episode as the main Doctor.
And the episode was a total breath of fresh air.
The first three specials were amazing, and already among my top favorite episodes of Doctor Who. But by nature they were an epilogue to a story already started. Which is what made them fantastic.
But on the differing side of the coin is this special, where it's to begin a new on, in a new era, in an episode that's a truly great starting point for new viewers that may not understand the sort of show Doctor Who is.
I've seen some people say it doesn't work as that 'cause it's goofy.
No it's perfect 'cause of that. You shouldn't watch Doctor Who not expecting camp sensibilities. Even at it's most serious, the show still has elements of camp, it's just rather or not it's intentional lmao
Also Millie Gibson is insanely convincing right away. I never seen her in anything, while keeping some faith, since so far RTD has been sort of my man when it comes to Doctor Who, I consistency enjoy his choices. But like, wow, she was genuinely the stand-out to me, above even Ncuti in some ways, because obviously the Companion isn't going to be as naturally interesting as the Doctor is, since the Companion is supposed to be a more average person, while the Doctor is...the Doctor. To make the companion stand out as much as the Doctor is insanely hard...especially when Ncuti is a show stealer by showing up alone from his charisma.
Her performance was amazing though.
I've never been so impressed by a companion's performance (Anymore so than another) before like I was with Millie.

ANOTHER propaganda post for @voidspace-bubble's spore tourney.
GROX SWEEP BABYYYY!
There is a reason my blog is themed around them. There is a REASON my fursona, Who I own a fursuit of, is a Grox. There is a FUCKING REASON they are one of few holdovers from Spore in daybreak. I am SO autistic about them you have no idea. Spore in general is my special interest but something about these little guys specifically just has me ENTRALLED.
They're the big bads of spore. The main villains of space stage. They're built up from the beginning of space stage and are a major obstacle even towards the endgame. You can either ally with them, Which is far easier to do but comes with MANY penalties... Or take on the grueling task of wiping out their entire empire, Which is roughly 2000 planets large and circles the galactic core. And they are one of my absolute FAVORITE parts of the game. First off, The way they're built up. They're built up as a big, scary empire. the antithesis to life. But then you meet them and they fucking LOOK LIKE THIS
Tumblr media
Which??? Can I just say. Is fucking IMMACULATE. The sheer contrast with how these guys are described and how they actually LOOK is just... amazing. They're built up as a force to be reckoned with, Everyone is TERRIFIED of them... And yet when you actually meet them? They're short, impish, vaguely cat-like aliens with the saddest, wettest eyes you have ever seen, And incredibly low-level parts at that. The best part? They do genuinely live up to their reputation, Too! I definitely know a lot of people aren't a fan of their design because it's not scary or threatening enough but I personally think the sheer contrast between how they look and what they are makes them MORE scary. What would drive something like that to this point? And that's not even taking into account how goddamned fun they are to draw and stylize. Due to their design being pretty simplistic you can interpret it in many ways... I personally see them as vaguely cat-like, Child-sized humanoid aliens with short fur, But i've met several people out there who see them totally different to how I do. It's VERY interesting.
Second of all, The sheer amount of PERSONALITY these little guys have while you talk to them. Spore's dialogue is great and highly underrated but The Grox? Honestly they're just... The absolute PEAK of what spore's writing can be like. They're super fucking charming. Like there's CLEARLY so much more to them than what you see on the surface... But unfortunately because spore is spore and worldbuilding isn't their top priority, You never really learn what their deal is beyond what is shown to you. But that doesn't stop me and MANY others from having headcanons! I have a whole BOATLOAD of headcanons that I am fucking refraining from talking about here since... This isn't about my own version of them that i've come up with in my head, this is about how they are in canon spore. That IS to say, though... If anyone is interested in hearing more about that please for the love of god LET ME KNOW I could go on for HOURS about my thought on these guys
I'm tired as fuck and this probably sounds SO incoherent because I have so many thoughts that i'm unable to articulate, But i'm so autistic about these guys especially. They're genuinely one of my favorite fictional characters of all time and I really want other people to be able to appreciate them too ^^ They're definitely the creature I would personally like to win the poll. I know it's a pretty damn obvious choice but these little guys genuinely mean a lot to me and I don't think i'd really be the same person I am now without them. I've been fixated on them since like... 2019?? and it's lead me to creating my passion project which I plan on sticking to for years to come.
So, To make a long story short? GROX SWEEP!

Hello...Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks...
Hi !!
I wouldn't say I necessarily have a straightforward top 10 list as such ... But I'm not one to pass up and opportunity to infodump on anyone who'll indulge me !
I hope this is what you're looking for and, uh, buckle up. I'll include a TL;DR with each character to make your life easier, because knowing me, this is gonna get LONG.
Also potential spoilers for: Dungeon Meshi, Night in the Woods, Berserk, Devilman Crybaby, Arcane, Jujutsu Kaisen, Dimension 20: Fantasy High, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind.
Also note that Berserk and Devilman Crybaby are both NSFW sources. I don't mention anything explicit here, but be mindful when looking into it.
Laios Touden (Dungeon Meshi)
TL;DR: Excellent neurodivergent representation, complex and unique in how interesting he is, also just me IRL
I'll be honest in saying he isn't actually my favourite Dungeon Meshi character (that's probably Chilchuck), but he IS the one I think about the most.
I'm firmly of the opinion that Laios is intentionally written to be neurodivergent-coded, and I say this because he's incredibly nuanced and interesting in the way he portrays symptoms and signs of autism. Most canon autistic representation I see can be boiled down to "slightly quirky" with a dash of the same 3 symptoms, and the background of that, Laios is a breath of fresh air. He's socially inept, but not at all cold or inexpressive - quite the opposite, he's open and enthusiastic and optimistic. He's obsessive, not in a quirky jokey way, nor in the way of being a savant that knows everything off the top of his head - he genuinely feels like he's learning about his interest and ENJOYS learning about it, rather than being robotic in his hyperfixation. On top of that, the thing he's hyperfixated on is EXTREMELY realistic for a neurodivergent person - many of us do find interest in animals, in cryptids, in other living beings that are, well, other, because we spend our whole lives being alienated and separate from our peers and we seek that comfort in other places. Monsters are straightforward, they don't play mindgames. They are powerful, they don't let others push them around (Laios, mind, is also powerful - but he's a human, so his strength alone has never been enough to protect him). And after all, humans already hate him, they already treat him as an unwanted freak. Why shouldn't he find solace in creatures that are treated the same way he is?
I could go on and on about how amazing he is, but honestly a lot of what I have to say could be posts of their own and we'd be here all day. I'll say also that he's just ... Plain and honest relatable. I have not projected so hard onto a character in a long time.
Angus DeLaney (Night in the Woods)
TL;DR: Comfort Character Extraordinare
If Laios is good to my brain because he reminds me of myself, Angus is good to my brain because he reminds me of my boyfriend. This, I cannot deny.
He isn't the most complex character in the world, nor even in NitW - yet I think there's more to him than people give him credit for. I think he's excellent in filling the role he's given - a friend-of-a-friend, a near-stranger, the person in the friend group our protagonist is in, someone she knows, and yet doesn't, likes, and yet doesn't really vibe with. He's nuanced and deep, has a life of his own, and honestly I'm almost glad they didn't explore it fully. By having Mae only get a tiny glimpse into his life, after knowing him for so long and yet never really spending time with him, we get the sense that people are people whether or not they're in Mae's life. It gives a greater sense of depth to the world offered to us by the game. Mae's close friends she knows well aren't the only ones going through tough things, everyone has their own story, and sometimes she only gets a tiny hint of that, and sometimes she gets none at all. I think it's very true to life, and very smart.
As for Angus specifically, well. He's smart, warm, kind. He doesn't let his cynicism get in the way of his friends fun, nor does he let it stop him from taking their worries seriously. He shows affection through cooking, he makes dumb nerdy jokes, he's canonically more charismatic than you'd think, he wants to take care of everyone and doesn't know how to take care of himself, and he has a fantastic ass.
He reminds me of my boyfriend. What more can I ask for.
Griffith (Berserk) & Ryo Asuka (Devilman Crybaby)
TL;DR: Incredibly nuanced villains that I want to put on a little dish and dissect. Themes of light and purity as something evil, of good intentions (Griffith) and love (Ryo) as something horrifying.
I figure I could just combine these two, given how much they've impacted each-other's writing.
Griffith AND Ryo are both infinitely nuanced characters, in ways that are complimentary and yet still different enough.
I've made a few posts about Griffith (if only because I recently finished Berserk), and my opinion on him can be summarised as such: I think he's the best villain in fiction, in that he is afforded nuance and complexity, without having to take away his teeth and make him ultimately pathetic, unintimidating, or a sexyman. I think the most interesting part of Griffith is his politics, his drive to change the world, his willingness to sacrifice everything to the greater good to the point where it becomes apocalyptic. It's fascinating to watch a character be so wrapped in genuine and honest good intentions, to the point of destroying everything.
I don't think I've talked much about Ryo (I should rewatch Crybaby), which is really a shame because he's no less interesting. He takes an aspect of Griffith that I haven't talked much about (rather, Griffith takes an aspect of Ryo) - obsessive love and devotion to the point of destruction - and amps it up to an infinite degree. Unlike Griffith, who pushes aside his love for his political motivation, Ryo destroys everything and anything in his path to the one he loves - including that very person. He's possessive and obsessive, in a way that does end up feeling genuine, and his entire humanity is concentrated on his feelings to this one person.
Together, these characters represent a trope that I personally love - purity, beauty and light as something evil, something vile, something overwhelming and possessive (as contrasted by something dirty, something crude, something rough being real and human and kind).
I just find them fascinating.
Ekko (Arcane)
TL;DR: mmmm community centric anarchist punk king.
This is possibly the most self indulgent one. Arcane is a wonderful show entirely full of fascinating characters I love, and each one of them deserves an amount of words that even I don't possess to describe their greatness.
Ekko is no less cool and interesting for having less screen time, but if we're just being honest here for a second ...
I just love his vibe.
I love that he was a rowdy, shitty little kid that antagonised everyone he could. I love that as he grew, he got more serious, took on an air of responsibility, but he didn't lose his friendliness, his humour, his artistry. I love that he prioritizes fun and growth and community, not just survival. I love that he has authority as a leader, not through fear but through confidence, through respect. I love his scene with Vi, where he bites back at her for the first time, I love their hug, I love their bond. I love his fight with Jinx, I love that for a moment they're just kids playing a game, I love seeing the reality crash over him like a wave. I love the little tidbits we get of him as a kid, playing dumb pranks, practicing his punches.
And to be completely clear: HE IS THE ONLY CHARACTER THAT WAS CORRECT.
Heimerdinger, Jayce, Silco, Vander, Mel, every single leader in this show is either too preoccupied trying to preserve broken pieces of the past or they're speeding towards a future they don't understand.
Ekko says NONE OF THAT SHIT, takes up the punk anarchist mantel, and says "I am going to take care of the injured, the indisposed, the homeless, the sick, the children, because blind ideals mean nothing in the face of real poverty and struggle".
...Which is why I say it's self indulgent on my part. It's just because I fully agree with his ideologies.
Geto Suguru (Jujutsu Kaisen)
TL;DR: Another villain I absolutely love analyzing and dissecting. Beautifully written ideology and motivation that is fully understandable even if it's something any sane human would viscerally disagree with.
I've written post upon post on Geto, so I won't get too into it, but I still wanted to mention him. Another reason I won't talk too much here is because I've ultimately fallen out of love with JJK - sad, but true. In my opinion, the most interesting part of the show was, in fact, Geto.
Geto's ideology is incredibly well written. So, so many little details end up playing into it, it's set up so carefully and expertly that in the end it's incredibly easy to see how he ended up in the place he did. The death of his friends, the responsibility of Mimiko and Nanako, the way he's treated, the way his best friend is treated... Some of these things are big, some more subtle, but they all lay a brick in the foundation of one of the best villain arcs I can name. And if you can't tell, I'm a big fan of villains that genuinely believe what they preach. There's an air of sincerity about him, despite being a manipulative asshole, he isn't a selfish one.
I just think he's fascinating.
Fabian Aramais Seacaster (Dimension 20: Fantasy High)
TL;DR: Incredibly entertaining, and has informed the way I play my TTRPG characters.
A bit of a random one, and a more light-hearted one - I just love this silly little man.
Fabian is so unabashedly loud, silly, over the top. He makes such obvious, catastrophic mistakes, often after delivering such confident speeches about how awesome he is. And then he's allowed to have quiet moments - he can be somber, soft, sad, tragic. He loves his friends, but he can't bring himself to be obvious about it, but he wants so badly to express it. He has repressed trauma that we don't really get told - instead it's expressed through every desperate cry for attention and every subsequent moment of quiet reflection.
I've been playing TTRPGs for a little while now, but Fabian has fundamentally inspired me to be more confident, more nuanced, to take up more space at my table, and to not be scared to change the way my characters act based on the scene and mood and circumstance.
I just think he's neat !
Panacotta Fugo (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind + Purple Haze Feedback)
TL;DR: An underrated character that showcases burnout, gifted kid syndrome, and abandonment issues in a way I find particularly painful.
God. Where do I even start.
Fugo speaks very deeply to some of my own trauma. The gutteral, albeit brief depiction of gifted child syndrome and the subsequent burnout that follows it felt incredibly, palpably real not only in the episodes we see his backstory in, but also in his general behaviour. In the way he still tries to act proper and composed, in the barely-restrained rage that bubbles over once in a while, in the severe guilt felt through these outbursts. Pretty much any time Fugo is on screen is a testament to his pain and his sheer desire to overcome it, which (as amazing this show is) I can't exactly say for most JJBA characters.
The abandonment issues are more personal to me than I'd like to get too deeply into - suffice it to say, being left behind without a thought, looking at people you came to think of as your family turn their backs on you and walk away, and realising for the first time that you weren't, in fact, a needed and cherished presence in their lives, but rather something easily parted with ... That shit hurts, and it hurts me very personally.
Araki has gone on record stating that he fell in love with Fugo as a character and came to see him as a personal friend. I believe him, if the genuine and subtle care poured into every crevice of his character is anything to go by.
Purple Haze Feedback isn't canon, but it is Araki-approved, and its the exact amount and type of Fugo content I was starving for after his extremely undercut role in part 5.
And I think that's it!
Was that 10? Who knows.
Either way sorry if this isn't what you were looking for - i think one look at my blog will tell you that I'm very prone to infodumping especially as it pertains to character analysis.
And if you read it this far... Holy shit, thank you !!
To be honest as I've fallen out of fandom spaces it's become incredibly hard to come up with characters I actually like, rather than ones I've projected my own stories onto and changed fundamentally.
Playing DND has NOT been helpful, it's increasingly difficult not to spend four hours talking about a PC I made that I really love instead of any actual character haha.
Either way thank you for the ask !! Like I said I love a good opportunity to infodump.

Finally got around to watching Z-O-M-B-I-E-S and the first two aren't masterpieces but are a fun watch especially for the music. I'm not going to lie the third I think is genuinely one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
Rant below.
I'm going to start off with that the music and choreography are the best in the franchise I really enjoyed all the songs in this movie.
Zed is once again a likable character and is my favorite character in the movie.
The first movie is about segregation and I've heard others say disabilities as well. The second is colonization and not losing who you are to fit in. The third is about immigration, climate change, "identity politics", and other messages I think just rewrite the lessons of the previous movies.
One of my favorite parts of these movies is when Addison puts on the necklace to become a wolf and doesn't. Which upsets her because she wants a place to "fit in" and Bree tell her she's beautiful, that she's always been beautiful and even if she's not a wolf she's Addison, someone who is deeply loved and amazing the way she is.
I loved this messaging that the second movie portrays of being comfortable in your own skin. That Zed doesn't need to be more human and that he can embrace that he is a zombie. That is the lesson Zed and Addison are supposed to learn in this movie. Except in the third movie Addison throws all of her dreams, family, and friends away when she finds out she's an alien. Like being Addison isn't good enough that she has to fully be an alien, like that's what's going to make her feel better about herself. It's like someone finding out they're 1/16 Cherokee and begin enrolling in the tribe, dressing in traditional native dress, and marking native on their job applications. It's nice to know your ancestry, but your genetics don't make up your personality.
Also the reason two works is because the werewolves are likable. I found the aliens to be unlikeable and whiny.
I found Addison in the first two movies to be whiny as well. Constantly talking about not fitting in and her white hair. Like she's not the mayor and police chief's daughter, a cheerleader that's super loved and popular, and has a good boyfriend and friend group. Like Zed, Eliza, and Bonzo aren't segregated from the rest of society, treated like monsters, and aren't allowed common decency in the first movie.
But I was able to overlook this because it's a kids movie and the rest of the characters carried the movies. The third movie just cranks Addison's unlikability to 10. She doesn't correct A'spen on what's socially acceptable to say, you know not hitting on Zed while he's there and it makes him extremely uncomfortable as just one example.
The fact the her grandma chose Seabrook as utopia even though at the time it was still segregated and hateful. The aliens should have chosen Seabrook that even if it is imperfect the still decide to call it home.
Also not every character should be in a relationship. Bree and Bonzo as a secondary couple is cute, but while I think Wyatt and Eliza could have a good dynamic they don't really interact in the second movie and by the third Wyatt's just magically in love. I understand that it's been a few years since two, but you should at least rely on onscreen chemistry which you can't have because Eliza isn't physically there for the whole movie. Willa and A'spen don't even make sense.
This movie has so many problems and just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I have so many more things I want to say about this movie, but if you're still here you might not want to hear it.

RWBY v9 Thoughts and Analysis: E8 - Tea Amidst Terrible Trouble
The Warning up front is an absolute failure, and whomever was in charge of that should be fired and replaced with someone who will actually make trigger warnings that warn about the triggers.
This episode desperately needed a clearer warning than "there may be difficult themes" or whatever vague crap they thought would suffice, spoilers be damned.
Onto the actual episode
the 1st person shots have been used so. freaking. well and that continues here.
They always use this when they7 really went us to get into the characters head--so they just put us there, haha!
Anyways it's really effective.
I honestly thought Little would be able to help Ruby at least somewhat since they don't have the baggage with her that WBYJ does.
I was very wrong. Little tries, and Ruby once again refuses to engage, instead moving onto the immediate problem--but her ability to do so has crumbled, and now she shifts to a different defense mechanism.
Poor Little tries to help, genuinely not understanding, and Ruby pushes them away because she feels she cannot fill the shoes of a hero anymore.
"You have no idea what I've done. What I couldn't do. I can't do this!! ...I could never do this."
Listen to how her focus shifts. It starts at blaming herself for her actions, but part of her knows she is trying her best--so it shifts, and the problem becomes that her best isn't good enough.
Her best is failure. Her best is pain, and struggle, and limits. Her best is only human. And that's not enough. For others, it's okay. They can have limits. That's natural. But that's not allowed for her. She needs to solve the problems. She has to. Because if she doesn't, she's a failure. And that's not acceptable.
It doesn't matter what she does, it doesn't matter if it's her best, if it doesn't fix everything.
Can you tell I'm familiar with her mindset? 😅 I don't alienate people like she's doing, but there was certainly a time where i thought everyone in my life was worse off with me in theirs just as Ruby does.
Another butterfly.
I wonder if the spotlight is real? you never know in the Ever After
Ah, a big ol' mansion. maybe a recreation of the one she burned down in Roman Holiday?
(btw, REALLY appreciate that that book definitely heightens this episode, but is nowhere near necessary to understand it. take notes, other transmedia franchises)
There she is. Trivia Vanille. The girl Neo was trapped within. And her ableist parents who couldn't accept that their daughter was mute.
Neo and Cinder. Another relationship that Neo went in thinking ought to be stable, wasn't.
And of course, the cream of the crop-Neo and Roman. The ultimate fallen relationship for Neo.
All three had Neo attaching herself to someone, hoping it would be the relationship she craved. Someone who actually cared about her.
Only one of these three filled that hole, and it's the one that broke her. Which is why it's the one she replicates here.
Roman makes a fantastic return at the worst possible time for Ruby.
Seriously though--top-tier performance, top tier animation. Love his body language, the casual kick of the legs of the corpses in front of him was perfect.
RIP to the amazing actor behind Roman's return.
The whole thing is absolutely a worthy return for the fan-favorite character. But uh, maybe we ought to be careful what we wish for, eh FNDM?
Speaking of
I can safely so no one expected this. Sure, there were plenty of theories about how this or that character would come back.
Well? Happy now folks? You couldn't accept some of these characters were dead, and now they're back in the worst way hahaha.
Anyways. Bold move. And i definitely never expected the shadows behind Neo in the opening to be these characters.
Ironwood, Ozpin, Clover, Lionheart, Pyrrha, and of course Penny.
Neo must have spent ages unseen gathering as much information on Ruby as possible. We know she spent most of Volume 7 undercover.
Clover and Lionheart are odd picks. I guess Clover represents the fracture with the Ace-Ops, while Lionheart is someone Ruby trusted--and probably blames herself for trusting, or maybe for not being able to bring him back from Salem's side.
God, Roman is such a showman, He was when he was alive, and he is now that he's dead. Neo comes by it rightly.
Gotta love that for everything she blames herself for, she knows damn well Neo's grudge is bullshit. Thing is--Neo is past the point of caring whether her rage makes sense or not. It's all she's got left.
God, Neo's puppets are so freaky. CRWBY did an incredible job with them.
For all Ruby's self hate has festered, she's not at the edge. Not yet. And she won't go there without a fight.
Unfortunately, Neo's all too happy to provide one.
"Im going to enjoy watching you break" they all say as Neo sways happily
Proper horror vibes here
The various responses WBYJ have here are FASCINATING
Yang is the only one who seems genuinely upset--or at least, upset in a way that leads to outbursts. the rest are upset in...different ways.
"Dammit, how could she just run off like that?"
I think Yang is blaming herself a bit for not seeing it tbh. I think the anger she expresses at Ruby running off is at least in part anger at herself.
But then...there's also the part of her that remembers what it's like to be left....For family and loved ones to decide they can't be there anymore. There's a decent chance this triggered Yang's abandonment trauma now that i think about it...
Blake...gets it a bit more. She understands that sometimes, people run when they don't know what else to do. When they feel like they can't face the people they love.
Weiss, interestingly, is the one who's reflecting on word choice specifically--very meaningful considering her slight regression this volume and some of the ways she's snapped at Ruby while in the Ever After.
And while she speaks...Jaune reacts. He doesn't have much to say this episode, but his reactions are very meaningful. And as Weiss speaks about the pressure that they've all unknowingly been putting on her, Jaune reflects. He clearly regrets everything he said at the end of last episode.
Yang: "it's not like we were asking her to be perfect..."
And then, in the pause after she says that, you can practically hear the unspoken question:
"...….were we?"
Ironwood: "Who were you to think you knew what was best for Atlas?"
all her doubts about trusting him, lying to him. Ruby thinking maybe if she had just trusted him in the first place, things would have turned out okay.
Pyrrha: "I was the best and brightest Beacon had to offer. I traded my life so that my friends could live!"
Ruby's feelings she couldn't make Pyrrha's sacrifice worthwhile, as well as that she didn't deserve to be at Beacon the way Pyrrha did.
Penny: just like you were too late to save me at the Vytal festival. i died in Atlas too, didn't I?
Neo didn't see Penny die, but she knew how Ruby was acting, and clearly she knew how deep their bond was, so she figured it out. She was also probably spying on our heroes a lot more than we were privy to.
"Can you imagine what that's like? To be completely and utterly failed by someone who meant the world to you?"
There's a few different ways to interpret Ruby's blush.
Personally, I'm not sure she was in love with Penny. But I think the mere possibility of Penny being in love with her is very meaningful to her either way.
Pyrrha: "how many more people are going to die because of YOU?!?"
Ruby actually tries to push back
"I'm trying to save everyone!!!"
Ironwood: "And yet with all your best intentions, have you ever stopped to wonder if you've done more harm than good?!"
Neo knows damn well she has, and she's giving that fear external validation.
She still tries to push back though
"It's not my fault!"
Ozpin: "How many more lives do you have to RUIN to realize that you're not cut out to save ANYONE?!?!"
This coming from Ozpin is key, because he represents both the person Ruby looked up to for so long and wished to be trained by, and a man who caused an awful lot of pain through his failures. Both of those Ozpins are judging her in this moment. She's not a hero like she thought he was, and she's caused more pain than he ever did by pretending to be.
Ruby killing Oscar is a hell of a striking visual.
All her loved ones looking down on her in judgement.
and the cat comes in, takes Neo out...and creates a whole new set of problems.
Another 1st person shot, putting the Cat in a shot that has them looming over us and Ruby, already indicating something isn't right.
"I...I'm sorry. I don't...want to be me...anymore..." the pain in this girls voice 💔
Though of course...ascension isn't about not wanting to be yourself anymore. It's about becoming someone else. This already shows that drinking the tea would be unnatural, even by the Afteran rules.
Goddamn this twist, y'all. CC was dubious, and clearly at best a neutral force, but this...this is just plain evil.
I guess we know why they were so upset at Herb now.....if Ruby began to heal or if she ascended--whichever Herb was leading her towards--she would no longer be a potential vessel.
"I'm not like the other afterans here. I'm cursed with curiosity, I need to know everything--but more than anything i need to know why my Makers left me here only to leave and make all of--"
Okay so the V9 roundtable for last week confirmed CC was talking about the Two Brothers here...BUT they singled out that the Brothers created the Curious Cat, leaving it unclear if they created the Ever After itself. i mean especially with CC explicitly saying they are unique among Afterans, it's not impossible, and I would definitely find that very fascinating.
GO LITTLE NO THIS CAT ISNT A FRIEND
Neo vs CC
NOOOOOOOOOOOO LITTLE
They'll be back. They'll ascend. And maybe they'll be the friend, the Guide, Ruby needs.
But hot damn that was brutal. Neo literally smushed them under her heel.
And WBYJ come in, and they have no idea what's going on. A mansion? But it looks like a battle happened here? Wait Ruby? holy hell what happened to Ruby?!? Why is she...what's in that tea? Did Neo give it to her? Why would she drink tea Neo gave her?! What is going on?! and Roman is there?!? telling her the world would be better off without her?!
They have barely begun to process everything, and then Ruby drinks the tea and she falls into the Ever After (with Little) and they piece it all together, but it's too late. Ruby is gone.
And Neo...is empty. She put everything she had into this. There was no meaning, no life, no joy to be found. There was just rage. And now that the source of her rage is gone....there's nothing left. Her own Puppet celebrates and tries to tempt her ambition but...her ambition is gone. She doesn't want to rule. she doesn't...want. She put everything she had into Revenge, and now there's nothing left. And all she can do is sit there, staring straight ahead, realizing just how futile this has all been.
Freaking love the cracked chair visuals btw, not to mention the entire mansion crumbling as Neo does, giving us a direct insight into her mindset (and also confirming that her enhanced semblance created the entire place, not just the Puppets or the details of the house)
Jaune speaks for the first time this episode, and for the first time this volume he speaks not as a broken man, but as Ruby's best friend: "Take us to her"
“You still don't get it, do you?! It’s not a place you go, it’s a place you know” I've been thinking on that line
What if when you go to the Tree, it takes you to a place in your life that’s meaningful to you. Like say, Summer’s grave?
Perhaps that meaningful place is where you sort out your feelings and figure out who you want to be, with the help of a guide perhaps? Maybe someone related to that place....like Summer?
And that’s why people can’t follow you there, and why the tree goes to you. It's too personal for anything else.
Moving on, I wonder why CC needs to possess someone from Remnant to go to Remnant
Oh dear
WBYJ sees CC staring hungrily at Neo, but without the knowledge we just became privy to they can just barely piece together what might be about to happen
We don't know if Jaune was right about the tree, or even Alyx
But he was damn right about the Cat
damn they went full nightmare fuel with CC this episode
And Neo is terrified...but she has nothing left to motivate resistance against the cat's possession.
People theorized for years about when Neo would talk for the first time. First of all, she's mute and can communicate perfectly well. The idea that her talking for the first time would be some big emotional moment is ablest as hell.
and now, once again, another wish granted. Neo's talking. happy?
She is possessed and being puppeted by a selfish magical nightmare cat with sharp fangs and incredibly powerful abilities, but she's talking! Hooray i guess?!
"The Rusted Knight. Goodness am I tired of your little sob story. You can't even accept your own futility"
okay so first of all can we call this Nightmare Neo, because i think it's the only term that can apply to something this horrifying
Second, jaune's inability to move on and getting stuck in essentially arrested development and all that messed up stuff with the Paper Pleasers...actually seems top have made him simply a bad target for the Cat. So...bright side i guess? Still probably would've been better for him to heal...but at least he held onto himself.
Oh wow. The Cat's powers....AND Neo's Ever-After-powered semblance?! Together?!
Holy hell. What could possibly be next?

This idea wont leave me alone and I dont think I can write it very well myself- Derek and Stiles are at some sort of convention (though not together, since they dont know each other) and they go to the same place to eat and since they're alone and the place is packed they end up sitting at the same table. Turns out one of them is 'secretly' the person they'd been there to see (like a panel-hoster or something?)
“What are you here for?” a guy next to Derek asks.
Derek looks up and the man is kind of beautiful in thick rimmed glasses and a beanie, wearing a plaid shirt over t-shirt and he is just really adorable. Derek is stunned for a second before he remembers he has to talk. “Came here to see the panel about diversity writing,” Derek answers. “You?”
“Same!” the man says excitedly with a smile. “Glad there will be other people there besides me!”
“So far you got one,” Derek laughs.
“I’m also here for the panels on Vampire Diaries and Reign but don’t tell anyone, okay?” he says, his voice barely above a whisper.
“My lips are sealed,” Derek tells him.
The man looks at Derek’s lips, his eyes staying there a little too long before his eyes blink and flick back up to Derek’s. “Sorry. You’re just…insanely gorgeous. I can’t be blamed here.”
“Yes, you can,” Derek snorts.
“Very true,” the man says, holding up a hand in apology. “Fully my fault. I’m very sorry. Can you forgive me?”
Derek nods. “But only this time.”
The man nods and smiles. “So what are you most looking forward to the panel?”
“I don’t know,” Derek sighs even though he knows exactly what he’s looking forward to. “I love all the writers that are speaking.”
“Yeah?” the man smiles widely. “I’m a huge fan of Boyd and Reyes. Their works are amazing.”
“Stilinski as well,” Derek adds because he has to.
The man laughs. “Almost forgot about him. I’m so happy there’s a whole panel about diversity and they’re actually including diverse writers. The last time I saw this panel, it was a bunch of white, straight men, so this year they amped it up a bit. Could be better, but I think it’ll be a good talk.”
“I’m really looking forward to it. All these writers have changed my life in some way,” Derek admits with a smile.
“Even Stilinski?” the man asks like he is genuinely surprised.
“Especially Stilinski.”
The man opens his mouth to say something but then looks down at his watch. “I’ve gotta run, but maybe I’ll see you at the panel?”
“Hopefully,” Derek says because he is very interested in this man, who then waves and runs from the table like he really is in a hurry.
Derek is one of the first few people at the panel, so he chooses a seat close to the front. As time goes on, it starts to fill up and there is actually a decent amount of people in attendance.
In all honesty, Derek is here for one reason: Stiles Stilinski, who writes amazing novels about being men in loving, healthy relationships and also werewolves. He has an entire series set in a world with werewolves, and it’s Derek favorite series ever. He can’t even name a favorite book from the series because they are all incredible. Gay and incredible, which is really all Derek looks for in a novel.
The writers and editors start to fill in the chairs at the front, and the man that Derek was flirting with earlier is up there. Oh, maybe he is an editor because Derek recognizes the other writers up there. Erica Reyes, whose novel about a woman in her mid-twenties figuring out her sexuality made Derek cry. Vernon Boyd, whose novel about what it’s like being black and queer in America taught Derek so much about the world and his own privilege. And then the editors Derek doesn’t recognize. One of the other people has to be Stiles Stilinski who doesn’t have his picture on any of his novels, so Derek can’t even recognize him if he wanted.
They go through introductions of the editors first, and the man Derek flirted with is none of them, which means….no…
“And here are lovely writers,” the moderator says, gesturing to them widely. “Erica Reyes, beautiful as always. Vernon Boyd, serious as always. And the elusive Stiles Stilinski, who none of us knew what he looked like until today.”
The crowd cheers for the writers, and Derek claps he thinks, but he is too focused on the fact that he just flirted with his favorite writer. His favorite writer, who is beautiful and sitting right up there, making eye contact with Derek. His favorite writer who is now winking at him with a huge smile.
Derek can’t believe it.
The entire panel is very interesting and each author talks about how important it is for each of them to write diversity.
“It’s not about writing diversely,” Stiles says when it’s his turn to talk. “It’s about writing other’s experiences. I won’t apologize for recognizing and writing about a world that is not only cishet men. There are many other types of people out there with their own stories to tell.”
“But Stiles you like to write these characters in fantasy settings,” the moderator points out. “What made you want to do that?”
Stiles laughs. “I loved fantasy novels and movies growing up except I connected to none of the characters, which I’m sure Erica and Boyd can understand better than me. I at least found myself in the white, cis men characters. In fantasy settings, you rarely find women or people of color or anyone who is queer. So I wanted to show that aliens and werewolves can be gay too.”
The entire crowd cheers at that, and Stiles ducks his head as if he is embarrassed.
Derek just fell in love.
After the panel is over, Derek sticks around and waits for Stiles to notice him. Stiles jumps down from the stage and walks over to him. “So,” he says, sticking his hands in his pockets. “Turns out I saw you at the panel.”
“Turns out you’re my favorite writer,” Derek says, raising his eyebrows, fully impressed by the man in front of him.
Stiles shrugs. “I can’t be your favorite.”
“You are,” Derek tells him seriously. “And what you said up there was amazing. I’m really glad I came.”
Stiles smiles widely. “Want to join me for the Reign panel and then maybe go out to dinner with me?”
“I’d love to,” Derek agrees. “Funny story, my sister is in Reign.”
“Oh yeah?” Stiles says. “Who is she?”
“I think she said her name is Mary? I don’t know, I haven’t watched the show yet.”
Stiles stops in his tracks and grabs Derek’s hand. “Your sister is Cora Hale?”
“Yup,” Derek nods.
“Which reminds me I don’t know your name.”
“Derek.”
“Nice to meet you, Derek.”
“It’s been an honor meeting you, Stiles Stilinski.” Derek can’t help the wide smile that’s on his face.
Stiles’ smile is as wide as Derek’s and they probably look like idiots who are just standing there smiling at each other. “I think I’m gonna like you.”

The Flash (1987)
A perfect run, plain and simple. It established so much of the Flash lore that we know and love, and it introduced some of the most iconic Flashfamily members! Most importantly, it cemented Wally West as *my* Flash, and has so many of my favorite Flash stories of all time, like Terminal Velocity! It’s just…perfect. No one writes Wally like Mark Waid.
