Transcript:
Megan: What do you think? Dawn: It’s beautiful! Megan:  Well, being outdoors, I guess the first question is: Do you have a date set? Dawn: We’re thinking August. It seems to be a good month for us.
Megan: Oh? How so? Dawn: It’s when Phoenix and I first got together, and when he proposed, and apparently when I got pregnant too. Megan: Well, August it should be then. How far along are you now? Dawn: About twelve weeks. Megan: Oh, that’s wonderful, congratulations! Dawn: Thank you!
Asher: I’m going to head inside. Iris should be home from work soon, and I need to talk to her. Megan: Good. You know I hate it when you two fight. Asher: We’re not fighting, we’re just… disagreeing. Megan: Mhm. Go talk to her, and I’ll see you inside in a bit. Asher: ‘kay.
Dawn: So, you’re a doctor? Megan: I am. I’m a naturopathic doctor. How have you been feeling? Dawn: Not bad. A little tired, nauseous, but nothing like the first time. Megan: This isn’t your first? Dawn: I… Well, we lost the first pretty early on. Megan: I’m so sorry. Dawn: Thanks.
Megan: You know, I was terrified when I got pregnant with Iris. Dawn: You were? Megan: Yes. She wasn’t planned, her father and I were very young and had only been dating six months, and I didn’t have much support.
Megan: I know from talking with Atlas that the two of you aren’t in touch with your family anymore. That must be really hard. Dawn: Yeah. Megan: I want you to know you’re welcome here anytime. I’ll give you my number. Don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions or want to talk, okay?
Dawn: Atlas is right, you’re so sweet. Thank you. Megan: You’re very welcome.
--
Iris: I’m just asking that you give him one chance. He did his time, he’s got a job, he’s taking an anger management class, and he’s really making an effort with Spencer. Asher: I’m sorry, I don’t trust him, Iris. The guy is volatile. Iris: At least he’s trying. Please, if not for me, then for her. She deserves a chance to have her dad in her life. Asher: [sighs] The best I can do is just not visit on the days he’s scheduled to see her. I’ll just stay away from him. Iris: Fine.
Asher: And if anything happens, anything, you can’t ignore it or cover for him. For Spencer’s sake. Iris: I won’t. Asher: And you’ll tell me? Iris: … Asher: Iris. If you want me to back off, then I need to trust that you’ll talk to me. Iris: Okay, yes, I’ll tell you. Asher: Okay.

web of wyrd: lesson from the fatherly energy in your life / what inspires your growth as a person
Tumblr media
the number we are focusing on today is based on the SUM OF YOUR PUBLIC ENERGY NUMBER AND YOUR HIGHEST SELF NUMBER (ex: my public energy number is 9 and my highest self number is 10: 9 + 10 -> 19 (recall that numbers must be summed a second time if they total 23 (i.e. 2 + 3 -> 5) and above)).
but what does this number mean?
this number represents what inspires our character growth in this lifetime. this number can help us to balance our public energy and our highest self energy - it essentially helps to provide continuity between our character. as my alma mater says, "be who you are and be that well." and as i say, "say what you mean and mean what you say." that is to say this number can help us become more genuine in day to day life when practiced. it is also the first number in our "male generational line"; often it is symbolic of the first male energy we interact with in life which is typically our fathers - so this is the biggest lesson we learn from our father figures as well.
so let's talk about some examples:
3 - the empress
rider-waite smith's empress is a regal lady sits on red (passion) cushions in a fertile forest where strong trees and wheat crops flourish. she is at one with nature. a heart shaped stone with the glyph of venus (what she represents) is beneath her cushions - she appears at ease with the possibly uncomfortable seating conditions. she stares are the viewer (confrontational) of the card, dressed in a white (innocence) pomegranate-patterned (pomegranates -> passion, fertility, and cyclicality of life) dress. she is adorned with a crown (has 12 stars - alluding to the 12 zodiacs) and a scepter showing her strength as a matriarch.
3s are inspired to grow when they learn to be patient, sit back, and receive rather than chase after answers/objects. hobbies that inspire patiences are meditation, yoga, gardening, writing, cooking/baking, reading, learning new languages, fishing, quilting, crochet, knitting, adult coloring books, puzzles, etc. it is important that 3s stay relaxed and follow their passions (with the 12-starred crown these people tend to be passionate/inspired by astrology) while creating what they desire most (any medium of art is also good).
3s are likely to be closer with their father than to their mother. their father is likely to illustrate to them unconditional love either for them or model it around them in some other area. they also could be a creative that lets the 3 explore their passions. 3s could learn to see the world through rose-colored glasses from their fatherly figure. their father can also be very granola - they can encourage going outside to become one with nature or they may be naturalists/naturopaths.
10 - wheel of fortune
click here for the card description of the wheel of fortune found in my 2nd wyrd web post.
10s are inspired to grow when they learn to connect with spirituality (so many occult symbols are present in this card, don't be afraid to search beyond just one belief). these people need something to connect with when times are rough - they need something to believe in. belief is a powerful tool that often boosts morale in the best way possible. to better connections with spirituality try joining a bible study, following a daily devotional online, going on a nature walk, joining a yoga/meditation group, journaling, volunteering in the community, planting a tree, practicing tai chi, etc. they also need to be around constant change so that they do not feel stagnant - outdoor exercise (or in a gym facility) is probably the best hobby for these people so they can build physical strength and endurance as they do they same emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. they should also pick up a hobby that is unpredictable as they need to realize that not all things can be controlled: practice one random act of kindness a week, manage a bonsai tree, take a different route on the drive home, try any random/new hobby/activity/workshop, surprise someone with a gift, make conversation with a stranger, go to a psychic, etc.
10's fatherly figure tends to teach them that fate can lead them anywhere. their fatherly figure can teach them that if they understand something and believe, they can accomplish anything that they want to. they could also teach them that there are patterns in life - a cycle - so they should never fear what comes nexts. trust what the universe has in store for everyone.
19 - the sun
click here for the card description of the sun found in my 2nd wyrd web post.
19s are inspired to grow when they learn to embrace their inner child. inner child work is extremely important to becoming anyone's best self, but for this person it is extremely beneficial to be around children and to get to understand the people around them and their inner children as well. because the truth is we are all children in spirit. practice hobbies that allow reconnection with the inner child: shadow work, make a mess - bake / paint / play dress up and do make up, buy a cute stuffed animal, throw a themed daytime party - i.e. a fairy themed picnic, play outside - garden / forage, volunteer to read to children at your local library, have a sleepover with your friends, pick up something you used to do when you were little - hula hoop / hatch butterflies, make your favorite childhood meal, try mantras/manifestation, etc. by practicing any of these things it will help to bring in to focus what productivity means to them. it could renew clarity towards life (perhaps you have been taking life too seriously), and/or it could make them feel alive again.
19's father figures likely taught them what it means to be healthy inside and out. it might be that they are able to see that youth, sadness, health, and/or illness is all temporary. these people's father could be childish themselves (perhaps 19s grew up too fast to enjoy childhood the first time around as well) and modeled what it is to embrace the energy of the sun card. they could also model for 19s what passion is when it comes to hobbies.
that's all for today. the next number we will be looking at is the right-most number, who we are destined to be.

I took an astrology break and was inspired to study more into holistic healing, hormonal and gut health. I’m doing okay now especially with the right supplementation, mindset, and gaining knowledge.⁣ part 2 here with the signs!
⁣Disclaimer: I am not a medical astrologer. I’ve researched and read and wanted to share. But the medical and health field is something I’ve always been fascinated by. Preventative and holistic care has always been on my mind.⁣ Naturopathic medicine is something I’ve always been interested in and that’s what I’d like to further pursue 🥰
I have Venus, Mars, Uranus, Saturn & Neptune in my 6th 😩🙃 with Venus opposite my moon I tend to indulge in eating sweets! It’s a weakness. But Saturn has helped me to stay disciplined so I don’t let it control me. Plus you’re always evolving and that’s why you look at your solar return and progressed charts. Part 2 will be out next week! Let me know your placements!!

One of my patients this week walked in with a bottle of something her naturopath recommended. It was giving her muscle cramps and anxiety. I didn't recognize the name on the front, which was the Latin plant name, Ignatia amara.
Now, if it had said Nux vomica, I would have known right away!
But St. Ignatius' Bean contains strychnine. Not a lot, and since this remedy was homeopathic, which means that they believe diluting something makes it stronger, not much at all. But apparently enough to cause muscle spasms. And strychnine builds up in your system as you take it, even at low doses.
I recommended she stop.

Long vent post incoming:
I'm so f*ing annoyed right now. I have eczema and I'm going through a bad flair up on my neck and face currently.
I wake up every morning frustrated and embarrassed about my skin and the way I look. But every day I go into public because I have to work for a living. Despite the fact that I know at least one stranger will have the audacity to ask me "what happened to your face" like it's any of their business.
I swear it's only a matter of time before I snap and yell at them about it. But of course then I would be labeled the a-hole for yelling at them. This has literally been going on for years. Like clock work every few months I have a flair up, usually it's on my arms, but once every 2 years my neck freaks out.
It truly drains me. I have considered unaliving myself over it. If it's not acting up, then I'm spending every moment in fear of when the next flair up will start. It has ruined my mental health. It has destroyed any self confidence I might have had. It has demolished my quality of life.
Every time I go to a doctor for it they prescribe my steroid creams. And like I'll use them for the amount of time you're supposed to. But then when I stop my eczema immediately comes back. Then after a while of fighting my skin with that specific steroid cream, my eczema gets used to it. So it stops working. So the doctor has to prescribe stronger steroids. And its just a constant downward spiral of worsening my skin.
Last year I was so fed up I decided I would quit the steroid creams because that wasn't sustainable and I felt I wasn't being listened to by doctors. Especially when I would go to the doctors office and would ask for advice and they would tell me basic stuff I was already doing, and it was clear that I knew more about eczema than them.
But then my skin got really bad, so I started seeing a naturopath (holistic medicine stuff) to see if there were more natural ways to fix my skin (don't come for me and tell me there's no cure, I know 🙄). I was really hoping to maybe learn more about living with my skin, and work closely with a doctor that actually could oversee me specifically. But unfortunately as a broke university student, this got very expensive and I had to stop going after 3 sessions.
So my next move was going to be getting into a dermatologist, because my stupid health coverage i get through my university would cover that. Unfortunately you can only see a dermatologist if you are referred. But the walk-in clinics i was using dont refer you to specialists. So I applied to find a family doctor, as I didn't have one at that point.
That fall my skin freaked out. Worse than I had ever experienced. Something got into my skin and after 3 days from when I first noticed something was wrong, my hands, up my arms, my back, my neck, my face, (and it kept spreading) was covered in pus filled sores. I left work because I couldn't bend my fingers anymore, and I had shooting pain in my arms and hands. I went to the closest walk in clinic to me and they prescribed me antibiotics, and a pill version of the steroid creams. In the past, whenever I take the pills it buys me a few months without my skin freaking out.
Over the winter I was seeing the same doctor every 2 weeks to check up on my skin, and he would change my dosage. My skin was feeling normal and I felt like I got my life back. Then I was unable to schedule my next visit one week and so I was unable to see him again.
Then over spring break my skin came back with a vengeance. This time the pus was up and down my legs, all over my face, back, arms, hands - literally everywhere. It got so bad so quickly I was unable to walk. Everything hurt from it. I went to the hospital and they saw me within 15 minutes (if you have any experience with Canadian hospitals you know that never happens).
Apparently I had picked up a nasty staph infection (lol 🙃). And I was referred to a dermatologist, as well as the infectious disease unit. Unfortunately the I could only get an appointment with the dermatologist in May, and infectious diseases in late June. This is unfortunate because I had already signed my contract with an international school in Thailand (where I live now), and I was leaving Canada 8 days before infectious diseases could see me.
So now, I live in constant worry that it'll come back because I never truly got cleared by someone saying my staph infection was gone. And now my eczema is acting up, and I caved and tried using steroid creams again because I just needed a breather for a second, but it actually made my skin noticeably itchier. So I officially absolutely cannot use steroid creams.
All this to say that I'm very tired of living with my skin, and every time someone asks me about it it makes me very angry.
And if you've made it this far, if you have any tips about working with eczema I will gladly take them. Maybe you'll share something that I didn't know about.

Added a new doc to my repertoire this week - a naturopath. She went through my history and decided to switch up my thyroid med a little and wants me to try to eat to my blood type. I’m willing to try almost anything to improve my health so apparently starting next week I’m going to say goodbye to coffee and pork, arguably my two favourite ingestables.

Does Slippery Elm Really Do What The Girls Say?
The TikTok girlies might be on to something...
Kiarra Sylvester
Jun. 16, 2022 07:00AM EST
All the women of the land want to claim they have that ill na na, that WAP and as you can see by the timeless colloquialisms this is nothing new. The reality is that not every woman has it and I’m not saying that to shame, I’m actually saying that to normalize and minimize the shame that is seemingly around the subject matter because there are physical and mental reasons why vaginal drynessmight occur. This is not me saying that you should settle for “it is what it is” but quite the opposite. Instead, know that you’re not alone and that in some cases there is work that can be done, physicians and sex therapists who might be able to help you learn ways to increase vaginal “wetness” or lubrication, or the cause of vaginal dystrophy or dryness as it can be several factors, from stress to menopause and SO *claps* MUCH *claps* MORE *claps*.
One thing that has piqued my cat-like curiosity is the girlies of TikTok saying that slippery elm bark, a plant that works as a demulcent, was the secret ingredient to getting macaroni-in-a-pot gushy. In fact, slippery elm bark has caused an increase in sales according to John Frigo, trainer, registered dietitian, and product specialist with Best Price Nutrition. He also adds that they can typically pinpoint TikTok as the culprit when these sorts of things begin to trend yet this time it happens to hold some truth. Frigo's exact words were, “Slippery elm bark seems to increase the mucilage tissues in our bodies which includes vaginal tissue. While no studies have been done on this anecdotally there seems to be a consensus that after about a week of use women begin to experience a noticeable difference.”
I spoke with two other experts who believe it is likely that slippery elm bark could work to increase wetness based on the product's mechanism. They also agree that it wouldn’t be their first line of defense when it comes to increasing your “sauce” as Rihanna once referred to it as. Making this the perfect segue because we want to know all the things anyways!
Tumblr media
Before deferring to slippery elm as your vaginal wetness hack, the two experts have some suggestions to try in order to increase vaginal lubrication.
1. Balance Your Vaginal pH
Among other factors that can create vaginal dryness, your pH balance is one of them. Your pH balance plays an important role in the overall health of your vagina. For your vaginal pH to be considered balanced, it needs to fall between the 3.8 to 4.5 range. Having a pH balance that is too high (over 4.5) is the perfect breeding ground for unhealthy bacteria to flourish and increases your risk for infections like BV. In order to correct an unbalanced pH, you can implement habits like taking probiotics, staying hydrated, and improving your diet.
Dr. Erica Steele, board-certified naturopathic doctor and certified functional medicine practitioner explains, “The digestive system has a symbiotic relationship with the female reproductive system so cleaning up the digestive system is very important to create a healthy and balanced vaginal canal. Lowering fat in the diet, increasing protein as well as improving the microbiology of the digestive system, specifically, the liver is key to ensuring a healthy vaginal canal.”
2. Vaginal Moisturizers
Vaginal moisturizers can be a very effective way to treat vaginal dryness. The over-the-counter remedy can be found in both gel and suppository form and use hyaluronic acid to hydrate vaginal cells and therefore moisturize the vagina. This differs from lubricantsbecause vaginal moisturizers can alter vaginal tissues whereas lubricants just add a lubricated barrier to reduce tears that may stem from the friction created by intercourse. Furthermore, vaginal moisturizers are most effective when used regularly as most products suggest twice-a-week application. And like most skin care products, the more consistently you use it, the better the results. If you are looking for vaginal moisturizers to try, Healthline provided a great list of the best vaginal moisturizers of 2022 and you can find that here.
3. Vaginal DHEA
Another non-hormonal option that can be used to treat vaginal atrophy is vaginal dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). This treatment is most often used by postmenopausal women to improve sexual function and increase vaginal wetness that naturally reduces as women get older. Kim Vopni, who is known as the Vagina Coach, says, "Vaginal DHEA is a non-hormonal cream that can help with the conversion of estrogen and testosterone. Estrogen is a big part of a healthy vagina and as we age and produce less estrogen, the walls of the vagina thin and become drier." Vopni recommends Julva Vulva Rejuvenating Cream as a personal favorite.
4. Do Pelvic Floor Exercises
In addition to the other options listed as ways to address dryness, consider working out! No, not in the gym. Vopni suggests doing pelvic floor exercises. She adds, "Kegelsare a commonly known form of pelvic floor exercise that, when done correctly, can help increase blood flow and circulation to the vagina and can help with lubrication. An at-home device called the vFit by Joylux has also been shown to increase lubrication, among other benefits.”
While it is a relief to know that TikTokers weren’t pulling slippery elm out of their bag of tricks and deception (since it is hit or miss), it’s wonderful to know that there are other approaches than can be taken before purchasing slippery elm. And generally speaking, options!

i got stomach aches aaaaall the time as a kid and my mum took me to a bunch of doctors who did every single test possible but nobody could figure it out, and considering i was also a "picky" eater who was also born 9 weeks premature so i didnt tend to eat much anyway, most of the doctors just shrugged it off and assumed i was faking it or didnt really care to figure it out when all the normal tests brought back nothing
eventually we went to a naturopath, which we wouldnt usually do, but we were at our wits end
turns out it was literally just lactose intolerance. NONE of the medical doctors in the early/mid 00s even considered this
it doesnt always have to be a rare allergy or intolerance. if your kid complains about certain foods actually causing discomfort or harm, whether physical or mental, please take them seriously
When I was a kid, I would only eat the yolk from an egg. Didn’t matter if it was boiled, fried, poached or deviled, the yolk was all I wanted.
My reason for this was “the white makes me feel sick”/“it hurts my tummy”. And everyone did what most folk do when kids say such things, they roll their eyes and call you a fussy eater and complain to anyone who will listen about how hard your child is to feed.
They won’t eat sandwich meat, they won’t eat minced beef, they won’t eat nuts, they won’t eat tomatoes, they won’t eat pasta, they won’t eat fish or spinach, they barely eat fruits and ugh you should see the tantrum they kick up when you try to give them yogurt for a healthy snack. And get this, they will only eat the yolk from eggs. What an annoying kid, right?
So, anyway, as it turns out egg whites are high in histamine while egg yolks are not. Everything I listed up there, is actually high in histamine or is histamine releasing and as someone who just found out after 20+ years of abject misery and several near misses with anaphylaxis that they have histamine intolerance disorder/possible MCAS, I feel really fucking validated about childhood me being a fussy eater.
So uh, pro tip to parents, while there is every chance your kid genuinely is a fussy eater, please also consider that there may also be something at play going on and they’re not just doing it to personally piss you off. Whether it’s a food allergy, intolerance, sensory/texture issues or an issue as insidious and hard to detect as mine, please don’t assume your child is just being difficult for funsies. And please don’t force them to eat something they say makes them feel sick. There’s probably a valid reason, and it warrants investigation rather just assuming your kid exists to tick you off.

Diet
By the time I was 11, I'd been ill for 2 years, and none the wiser why. I was still medically underweight and jaundiced. Claiming that modern medicine was at a loss to treat my chronic indisposition, even after the antibiotics had cured what was most acutely and obviously wrong, SHE had gone back to her arsenal. Naturopaths, Homeopaths. Thick tomes full of Latin names and numerals. Powders and pills sold at tiny grocery stores that smelled like patchouli. Cotton wads dipped in water that went on the soles of the feet white, and came off grey and dripping with the elusive "toxins" that had always lurked inside me. The most omnipresent cure was always some new diet. The toast diet. The rotation diet. Frutarianism (or a mockery of it). The Specific Carbohydrate Diet, still the worst I remember, was the one that finally stuck. An extremely limiting plan, especially for a child already underweight and growth delayed, where foods, endlessly listed, were categorized as LEGAL or ILLEGAL. Combined with fasting to "give your digestive system a break" my weight dropped precipitously. My longest fast, enforced for the benefit of my Health, was 8 days. 1, 2, or 3 day fasts I'd already undertaken, under different pressures from my mother, begging, negging, guilting and general duress, but even for a seasoned faster as I was by then, looking down the barrel of a week and a day with no food was daunting. "But remember from your last fast? My mother, always dieting herself, though never able to stick with anything for long, cajoled me "The hunger goes away after the 3rd day, you said so yourself"

As someone working in private health insurance in a country in Europe where this stuff is regulated -- I still hate it.
Naturopathy, chiropractic included, got regulated to make these quacks have some accountability, be forced to look at an anatomy textbook and give people a sense of when they were being ripped off. In response, people assumed this was the government putting naturopaths on the same level as actual doctors and dentists. In response to that, you have actual doctors getting certified as naturopaths and "preferring" to give naturopath treatment unless "allopathic" medicine is "necessary". They say it has nothing to do with the prices for naturopathy being a bit higher, and definitely definitely nothing to do with them thinking their patients are faking things.
And, to be fair, direct injuries (as opposed to indirect damage done from delayed or avoided medical attention) from naturopaths are low and mostly limited to medication interactions where people fully believe herbal tea magically can't affect medication, or allergic reactions to massage oils... Except in one area. You get three guesses which.
So, chiropractic especially got regulated even more strictly when injuries kept happening. And it changed nothing much so far, half a decade later. They're supposed to send patients to a doctor if it's a more complex problem, but...
In my current caseload of chronically ill patients I've now got someone who got unlimited chiropractic approved. The original argument was that they'd need less physiotherapy (28-45 euro are covered per session, depending on diagnosis, of which 3 a week are necessary). They have since quit physio entirely, and their condition has gotten mysteriously worse, despite upping the chiro (70-90 euro per session) from twice a month to 3-4 times a week, and their doctors prescribing stronger meds and getting surgery.
I've got someone who has several all caps warnings to not pay out any chiro, as the professor of orthopedics who has been treating them for double digit months says it might be lethal. Their spine is so damaged, half the bones are misaligned and look like something out of a geode splitting ASMR video. After surgery. With half a hardware store worth of titanium screws and plates trying to keep their spinal cord straight enough to undo the nerve damage that kind of injury causes.
I wish those cases were rare enough that just describing them narrows it down to a small enough group of people to identify someone by, but I'm not.
Yes, we get sat down once every quarter or two and told what numbers look good and what numbers make the CEO so so sad. They're happy if a 70 euro chiro visit means the problem is fixed, instead of a 20 minute doctor visit (12 euro, 25 if they're feeling frisky, because regulated prices) with a prescription (3 euro) of 6 rounds of physio (usually the 28 euro/session kind, plus a one time 16 euro fee for non chronic issues or new therapy attempts). But that's only true if the doctor-cum-naturopath types are right and the patient is faking and just needs to whine a little and feel another human being touch them to feel better forever.
Statistics show it's costlier to pay out naturopaths in the long run. Because we can't cancel cover over here. We can't adjust what kind of cover someone has once they have the insurance. We can hike up premiums if costs rise, but that just makes all the healthy cash cows seek greener pastures. The limit to out of pocket pay is 5k annually, and most companies cap it at half that at most, usually just 1.2k.
So why is it covered under those circumstances? The same reason GSH dogs still get liability cover despite causing the most damage, both material and personal, of any dog breed, pit bulls included: it's part of the cultural landscape, and to exclude it would cost you customers and have you branded as a tyrannical, unreasonable company.
And to make matters worse: the fact that we are more or less forced by convention to accept naturopaths as legitimate physicians, means we ask about how often you've visited them in the past as a prospective customer. We can only adjust cover before anything is signed, after all. And because naturopaths have to pretend to be physicians to operate, they have to say what diagnosis they're treating. If they have a medical degree (most don't), that's not too hard and they tend to stay realistic. If they don't, they still have to write something down which they feel is plausible, but serious enough to warrant (further) treatment. Ideally they'd communicate with a physician over that, but that requires a treating physician. And also scary legal paperwork. And the cooperation of said physician, because they sure as fuck can't argue they're providing vital and necessary care beyond the doctor's skill level.
Any stab in the dark they take is now a pre existing condition. Not fixed in six months? Welp, that's chronic. And, yeah, private health insurance companies will refuse to accept you if your health status too egregious (with very few exceptions if you're not a newborn). Or maybe they will--and then be legally in their right to charge up to juuuust under double the usual premium until you can prove you don't have that diagnosis.
How? Easy! A physician needs to confirm (25-40 euros) through lab work (anywhere from 15-2500 euros), and your naturopath can't charge for it anymore if you do get in, or at least one of you will get sued for fraud. In which case you're now on the hook for all costs related to that diagnosis which you've incurred with an insurance company. Plus interest at the current rate of inflation.
So... Only healthy people and the naturopaths are harmed the least by this. Because--oh yes--they recommend healthy people get treatment prophylactically.
I'm not saying health insurance are the good guys (my job would be so much easier if there was universal, science based, tax funded health insurance) but this particular flavor of fuckery is 100% organic woo lobbying.

Adventures in Brain Surgery
July 2, 2024
Greetings to all our Friends and Family,
Tumblr media
Some of this will be news for some of you, and some of this will be repeat information for some others. Thank you all in advance for taking the time to read.
On Monday, June 24th, 2024, a sizable brain tumor was discovered in Carol Anne’s frontal lobe.  It was removed on Thursday, June 27th. I thought I would try to share the basics of the story of how we got here with all of you.  I know there are some of you in our lives that have not heard all the news yet, so we wanted to share the story with everyone on social media.  This way we can continue to share with everyone what we can expect over the next weeks and months of Carol Anne’s recovery as we discover it ourselves.
For the past 6 to 8 months, Carol Anne has been complaining about not feeling like herself, although that feeling has been creeping up on her for much longer than that. As we take the time to reflect on the impact this unknown tumor has been having on Carol Anne, we are becoming aware that she has probably been affected for at least 18 months, if not longer.
We started to become aware that something unusual was happening to Carol Anne at least 8 weeks ago, but it was hard to identify exactly what. Historically, Carol Anne has struggled with mental health issues around depression.  Indeed, this has been a primary diagnosis for her for more than 10 years.  As a result, both Carol Anne and I were attributing her recent struggles with her confidence, her mood, and her choices to her mental health struggles
As a number of these symptoms increased in severity, her behaviour was increasingly uncharacteristic.  Because this had been relatively gradual, we were still working on the assumption that this was mental health related, combined with the effects of perimenopause/menopause.  Carol Anne worked diligently to try to connect with doctors and health professionals to get some sort of diagnosis and assistance, but the state of health care in BC is in bad shape, and family doctors are few and far between, so Carol Anne continued to make her best guesses and treat herself with random Telus Health doctors.  She started taking time off work to focus on her health, but everything seemed to be getting worse.
Right around my birthday, May 23rd, things started to get worse, faster. She started losing time - she would forget what time it was; she would lose herself in her phone or tablet playing the same game over and over; she would go on online shopping sprees without thinking through what she was buying.  She started losing situational awareness, and we started to have to watch her carefully when we were out.  Her texting became increasingly erratic.  Her attempts to solve problems (her greatest strength) became incomplete, ill-timed, and poorly communicated, if at all.  Additionally, she started falling frequently, and when she fell, she could not figure out how to move her body to right herself.  She had a harder and harder time both getting her body to respond and responding to her body. [Included in this have been problems of bladder control.]  She, of course, was still thinking all of this was her own fault and that she needed to be doing something to get better - better diet, more exercise, etc.
Without going into all the specific details, she was less and less herself, and her choices were increasingly suspect.  Through all of this we still did not have any clear medical help except for the specific help Carol Anne could ask for from naturopaths and clinic doctors.  That help, though, was based on her previous diagnosis of depression and our own incomplete self-diagnosis, not on a medical diagnosis, so they were really only providing what she was asking for.
Tumblr media
In the end, in desperation, we turned to private health care and paid much money to join a private practice. {A brief aside - Fortunately, this was not a “pay for a doctor visit” kind of practice, but rather a practice committed to providing a team of health care support that is interested as much in preventative medical care as they are with responding to acute medical symptoms.  We cannot emphasize enough how happy we are with the Beta Team-Based Healthcare group.  We would not have ended up with the care we received, and will be receiving, if Carol Anne had not found them. Setting aside the very Canadian cultural aversion to paying for personal health care out of pocket, we would like to encourage everyone to support this kind of health care.]
On Monday, June 24th, after a weekend with lots of falls, physical accidents, too much lost time, too much loss of communication from Carol Anne, and some very questionable choices, I took Carol Anne in to see the doctor with me describing my observations.  After a couple of very brief tests, the doctor strongly recommended we go to the hospital and get a CT scan right away.  Additionally, he insisted strongly that we go to the Victoria General Hospital, as that’s where the neuroscience team is based.  We proceeded to do this.
Tumblr media
[Another brief aside - We cannot say enough good things about all of the staff, doctors, and nurses who work at the Victoria General Hospital.  The level of care, compassion, and dedication we received over the 6 days in hospital was amazing. Understanding that this care was delivered in spite of being under-funded, under-resourced, and over-worked makes the care even more impressive and us all the more grateful to have received it.]
Tumblr media
We were seen without too much delay, fortunately, and the immediate results of CT scan initiated a series of health related actions that saw Carol Anne admitted to the hospital through the ER.  The ER doctor, sometime in the middle of the 3rd period of game 7, while we were parked in the ER hallway, explained to us that they spotted a very large tumor sitting on the executive function part of her brain, and it was large enough to also be affecting her motor control functions on both sides of her body.  An MRI was scheduled to more exactly identify the extent of the tumor and to check to see if it is a primary tumor or if there was yet more to worry about.  (Turns out it is the primary tumor - they have found nothing else at this point.)
So then, starting that Monday, she was placed under acute observation on the neuroscience floor while we waited for her surgery slot.  Carol Anne was in a low-stimulation ward, and her symptoms had progressed quite far by that point, so she had to wait without any electronic devices. This was not her favourite way to wait - she tried every tactic her tumor-clouded self could think of to get someone to bring her home. Fortunately, we all wanted her to stay in line for surgery more that we we wanted her home.
Thursday, June 27th was, finally, surgery day.  After a bit of worry through the day because Carol Anne was accidentally fed breakfast that morning, she was wheeled away to the OR Thursday afternoon.  After several hours of (necessary) silence, I received a call from the surgeon.
(Another aside - I would like to encourage all doctors to mentally prepare the first sentence to waiting family members so that there is no pause between greeting and the first sentence.  I cannot begin to express how many thoughts passed through my head in the 1.5 seconds between “Hello, Morgan? Dr. Fleetwood here.”  and “The surgery went very well!”  I lost years of my life in that 1.5 seconds)
The surgeon was thrilled with how the surgery went.  I could hear it in his voice on the phone, and Carol Anne says he was bouncing in the recovery area as he was talking.  I think the appropriate word here would be “chuffed.”
Tumblr media
They got everything that they could see!  It went quickly and easily, with a minimum of bleeding, so she didn’t need a transfusion. However, he emphasized that, of course, they cannot see the microscopic stuff. Further to that, he was very optimistic that, having drained the fluid around the cyst, a lot of her really extreme symptoms would start to clear up pretty quickly, and he's very optimistic about her recovery on that front. He said nothing went strange in the surgery. He was so very very happy with the way the whole thing went.
Carol Anne had a follow up MRI scan Friday morning, in order to confirm that they have, in fact, gotten everything that they can get. As of Tuesday, July 2, we have not yet seen the results.
Tumblr media
Since the surgery, Caroline has been feeling much better and increasingly herself again. The first two days after the surgery saw a great and dramatic improvement in Carol Anne. Her motor functions have become much more in control,  she's much more aware of the difference between how she is now and how she was before the surgery, and she is continuing to discover the extent of how badly she had been affected by this tumor.. Her mood is improving, although she is going through bouts of anger, understandably, about how long it took to get treatment given how quickly she started improving since the surgery.
We haven't seen the surgeon since the morning after the surgery, but we have appointments that are already being set up for the next couple of weeks to follow up with many doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nutritionists, and all sorts of other specialists yet to be named. She was discharged on Sunday, and she is now home and learning how to recover from the comfort of home. She is seeing visitors!  If you’d like to see Carol Anne, please send us a text and we’ll be happy to see you.
Tumblr media
I know there are probably many questions that aren't being answered by this post, but that is either because we don't yet have the answers or because we're not yet ready to share.
There is much physical and mental recuperation that all of us need to go through over the next weeks and months, but we are grateful that this is the challenge we have to face now rather than something else.
We will try to post periodic updates once we've settled into routines at home and we have more news to share. This experience  has reinforced for us just how much attention and reform needs to be dedicated to the fundamental support systems of our society (health, education, shelter, and food security.) Whatever our future holds, advocating for an integrated vision of change will be a big part of it.
In the meantime, we are turning our attention to Kathleen's and Matthew's wedding and upcoming move! We, all of us, are looking forward to seeing friends and family and sharing in celebration after this incredibly challenging period.
With love and appreciation,
Carol Anne and Morgan

May 27, 2024
I somehow managed to vanish for all of May. I did not reach my goal of even one journal a week.
Things have been busy though. Work has been work. Ups and downs. A lot of frustrating moments. I don't know how long I want to be there. I know I said that I would give it a year in march, but everyday seems to be a little worse.
Sure the consistent pay is nice, and the benefits. I am just tired of feeling like nothing I do is good enough. I get that enough at home.
Things with Braeden are good. He left for Cabo on Thursday, which gives me time to be home and try and get some stuff done. My friends have planned things this week so I also have and will be seeing them. Which means I won't necessarily be home...even though I need to be. I haven't gone to the gym either.
I am struggling to juggle everything and it all stems from work.
I am packing for Italy now. I did some shopping on the weekend an found some staples to bring. I just want to bring stuff I can mix and match.
I went to the doctor last week for a follow up to not only my hospital visit but also to another hospital visit to get x-rays that I was turned away from. Now I need to find more time to go and get those done. Both my family doctor and Rheumatologist have been good with dealing with all this. I am excited to go see the Naturopath though and see what she says.
Braeden and I planted the garden last Monday. It was the long weekend, we went to the cottage for a few days and then decided that on Monday we wanted to be productive.
I thought it was the hottest thing, Braeden woke up early to start the garden, so I could continue it while he went with his sister to look at a house. It was efficient, and I love starting tasks first thing in the morning. Whereas everyone else seems to like to start at 12pm.
I did a lot of reading at the cottage, but I need to get back into this week. I want to finish the book I am on before Italy so I can start a new book there. I kinda was hoping my parents would buy me a kindle for my Birthday, but they didn't and I didn't want to ask. Paperback it is. Do I bring one or two books?
I need to get to work so I can leave at a decent time. Going to go over goals with Alessia tonight.

It’s been a week for the books. Some sleuth work at work, one of those mysteries that when one solves leaves one in awe.
Followed by an amazing session with a naturopath doctor that seems to have solved a bugging issue.
And a jaw dropping return home after a busy Friday to a collapsed bathroom ceiling. My landlord told me that it was a common occurrence. Yeah, he got a common look and common answer back from me.
The ceiling has been fixed so I for now restrain the fight mode.
If the powers that rule treat a politician different than the others, there’s an agenda.
If the media treats a politician different than the others, there’s an agenda.
If every dissenting opinion gets a label and is ostracized, hello non vaxers, there’s an agenda.
Let’s live in a no agenda world! For goodness sake. You can start your journey towards that sweet spot with the podcast that carries that name.
In the meantime close the effing border. The Constitution demands that you - the Federal Government protect American lives. Yes us first. You don’t think we have enough homelessness?

What is the cure for kidney disease?
The Chronic Kidney Disease Solution is a "multi-function, step-by-step program that gives you everything you need to reverse your kidney disease, improve kidney function, and protect your kidneys from further damage so you can avoid dialysis and transplant." It has a collection of e-books and cookbooks that tell you exactly how to assess your condition, figure out what your test results mean, and come up with a treatment plan and diet that are perfect for your condition. All of its treatment methods are based on what we know now about naturopathic science, and some of them come from traditional Japanese medicine. It also comes with audiobooks and movies about meditation that teach a holistic way to treat kidney diseases and start the healing process. They also offer free program updates for life, so participants can use any new information they find. Their email support is also available for life, in case anyone has any questions.
About Who Made It
Duncan Capicchiano and his wife, Fiona Chin, both from Melbourne, Australia, wrote The Chronic Kidney Disease Solution together. They are both fully trained Naturopaths, and together they started a leading health hospital in Melbourne where over 13 herbal fitness therapists work together to help hundreds of patients reach their goals. Duncan has an advanced diploma in naturopathy from the Australian College of Natural Medicine. He also has diplomas and training in nutrition and herbal medicine, craniosacral therapy, homeopathy, and kinesiology. Duncan and his wife Fiona first set up this treatment plan to help Fiona's grandmother, who had stage 4 renal disease and was told that dialysis was her best option. After reading a lot of peer-reviewed journals, clinical trials, and other clinical literature, they worked hard to make an all-natural application that miraculously helped Fiona's grandmother in just 12 weeks. 6 months into their treatment, her condition greatly improved, going from level 4 to level 1, and she went on to live 10 more happy years before dying of heart failure in 2017. Since 2008, The Chronic Kidney Disease Solution has helped more than 25,000 people around the world. They are always under pressure from western pharmaceutical companies that want to close down their hospital. The only thing that keeps them going is the growing support from their successful patients and their families. The kidney is one of the most important organs for living a healthy, happy life. It keeps track of everything you eat and drink and does many other things to keep your body in balance. Anyone who has dealt with kidney disease knows that it can affect a person's quality of life. And if your kidneys stop working, it's a very bad situation. So, there are a lot of different ways to treat kidney disease. The problem is that many of these remedies are inconvenient, dangerous, and hard to use. The Chronic Kidney Disease Solution can help with this. It is a natural way to get your body to use its own healing mechanisms to fix your kidneys.
The Chronic Kidney Disease Solution Review: Does Duncan Capicchiano's EBook Really Help?
Everyone can get kidney disease, and most of the time, it is treated with a few drugs that have very bad side effects. Most natural supplements are safe to take, but some can have unexpected side effects. The Kidney Ailment Answer is a great book that will help you treat kidney disease. It says some big things. Are these sorts of claims worth listening to? The Chronic Kidney Disease Solution Review will look at the book more closely and decide if it is worth recommending or not. When a member of his family developed sudden kidney failure, he made it his life's work to find a way to cure it without dialysis or other harmful treatments. After 9 years of research, he put together all the information into a complete guide to kidney disease. This led to the release of The Chronic Kidney Disease Solution software. His main goal is to help people figure out why they have kidney problems and then make changes to fix the problem. Duncan Cappichiano
