It's kind of a hole in the wall. In the floor. Ren glances back towards the narrow stairs like he's expecting someone. Muhen looks bored. He's flipping through a book at the counter.

"This is super good, though," Ann adds, holding up her mocktail. "Thanks for bringing me!"

"Sure," says Ren.

There's no singer today. She's not scheduled to come in for another couple of days. Maybe he'll bring Haru to see her then, since they're technically dating as of last Sunday.

Ann knows this, but didn't say anything about that when he asked her here tonight. She's too tactful for that. Besides, they're here as friends.

Ren's never brought a friend here. He's never brought anyone here. A handful of times, he was brought. The Jazz Jin feels comfortable and familiar enough to be an old haunt, but now that Ren really thinks about it, he hasn't even tried all the mocktails on the menu. What is it they say--that people come, and they go?

"Hey, so," Ann says softly.

It feels too weird to contemplate bringing Haru here. He really should. They're dating. He likes her. She likes him. He really does like her. It's just, the boy who'd brought him here that handful of times might have killed her father.

Some people may stay with you, though.

Ann's nails are painted an eggshell blue today. He isn't really sure why he called her--no, of course he is. It's always Ann he calls when he needs exactly what only she can give, something uniquely warm. Ren had been on the way to Kichijoji before he'd registered the tap of his train card, realised he couldn't stomach the music alone, and she'd said Hello? only a few shorts moments before he noticed he'd called her at all. Her company is like hot chocolate or a sticky toffee cake, warm and sweet, hard to feel empty with.

She folds her hands over his and says, "Hey, Ren, how are you feeling?"

Pretty alive, all things considered. So his cheek's a little tender, and maybe she had to help him down the stairs.

Ann squeezes his hand.

Someone changes the record. Ren likes this one. Someone else hadn't so much, but then, his opinion isn't of consequence anymore.

"I like the music here," Ann chirps. "Should I get a record player, do you think? You can give me recs, yeah?"

"Sure," says Ren again. He smiles back at her and doesn't look at the stairs again.

Dwarfs in dungeon meshi are super masculine. Theyre living in a steampunk society and hold super masculine jobs like smithing or mining or fighting. They're all meat, mead, and metal.

Then you look at Senshi and he's like. Dude's making salads in a fucking Dungeon out of homegrown veggies in his own secret garden He befriended a horse(kelpie) and named it Anne. He made his adamantite shield into a cooking pot. The rejecting toxic masculinity cultural heritage symbolism is super on the nose

its funny bc i was JUST talking about this recently, but i dont like pet names at all BAHAH, hence why seb and clora dont call each other anything, not even nicknames.... seb calls her the light/princess/a bird sometimes as playful and teasing jokes, but doesnt actually address her like that. and clora always calls sebastian by his full name as well, bc i was basing her dialogue/my writing off the game dialogue...bc for as close as anne and ominis are to seb, both of THEM call him sebastian in full, so maybe it was a victorian thing that nicknames werent really common? plus clora's so proper that it just feels like its in her personality to always call seb "sebastian"... i feel like if she ever DID call him "seb" he'd do a double take and be like ...HUH? who are you???......are you polyjuiced? LMAO. i do imagine seb calling clora "love" when they get older tho (not in hogwarts) bc i like how simple it is, and imagining him saying stuff like 'careful, love' makes me🫠🫠🫠🫠

aw TYY💖💖 honestly i didnt give the victorian setting TOO much thought, other than making clora more modest/not used to wearing trousers etc. like the actual victorian courting process was that youd ALWAYS be chaperoned by at least 1 other person and you wouldnt be able to kiss or anything, so the fact that our mcs are in a co-ed school with free reign already ruins that, so i wouldnt worry too much about it. a lot of it you can just wave off with the excuse that wizard society is more advanced than muggle society, which is true anyway LOL. i just kept the parts that i thought were fun/made it feel victorian ENOUGH but got rid of the stuff that was too annoying (one big example being the amount of clothing they wear....i said it in the notes for one of my chapters, but i wasnt about to make seb go through like 5 different layers just to touch cloras titty LMFAO) and no i didnt have 1 specific website i used, id just google "blank in victorian times" and look through all the articles and resources i could on that subject, and take little bits of it. SO YEA i wouldnt worry about it too much, just take what you want if you think it could enrich your story, and leave stuff out if its annoying to deal with BHAHA. and GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR WRITING!!💖💖

OKAY SOOOO. in my au specifically, nurse ann is a fake nurse! she was a red-room sorta cam girl (killed ppl for donos), and used a sexy-nurse-persona to draw in more views!

meanwhile, jack only got a few internships in at hospitals during his masters program before the sacrifice.

i could see jack meeting ann because he's close to Lulu and feels really protective over her. so he'd be guiding lulu back to the hospital one day, holding her hand and being all soft spoken while Lulu goes on her little ghostly rants.

and of course, Ann pops up !!! and she's so beyond horribly annoying!! quickly peering over Lulu's shoulder and being like "hi handsome, youre so tall, whats your name, your voice is so deep" whatever. i think it would embarrass the hell out of jack and he'd just be pretty stiff n awkward. polite, but awkward.

eventually he'd scamper off and ann would tell lulu to "get your little tall friend over here". and maybe it would work, HOWEVER, in my creeped canon, it wouldnt go anywhere beyond jack being like T_T and ann eventually giving up . she wont tim too bad.

HOWEVERRRR, if we diverged from creeped canon(which already diverges from creepypasta canon...) for the sake of ann x EJ...

i think it would be cute if she kept flirting, and he was kinda like Jesus Christ you are beautiful . LMFAOOO. and she picks his brain about college life and just him in general, out of curiosity, while he picks her on....well... being some sort of zombie demon vampire thing.

⇢ When you called his attention, he became extremely nervous and couldn't form a coherent sentence.

⇢ He was overjoyed to see someone who appreciates the music he likes.

⇢ You told him how you discovered about the band.

⇢ He'd say it was Karube who introduced him, and then be mixed up since you have no idea who he is.

⇢ Likely would overshare that he plays his games while listening to the band music.

⇢ He would listen to you with a shy smile on his face

⇢ After a few minutes, you would split up to better explore the store.

⇢ Would cross paths on the way to the cash register and smile at each other.

⇢ He would ask the seller to give you a note that was handwritten by him.

⇢ But he reacts by telling you his thoughts on the differences between the two editions of the albums and how satisfied he is that someone else gets to share having a good tastes.

⇢ Your conversation would be short and simple, and you would soon part ways.

⇢ You'd go to the register later and find out that he'd paid for your products (after all, he is a doctor and has a lot of money)

⇢ She would be closed off with precise and brief responses, never looking into your eyes and always focused on something else.

⇢ But when you happen to stumble over words, she would listen to you carefully and smile.

⇢ You would part ways without swapping names or any other information.

⇢ However, you'd meet again the very next week at the same store, and she'd hand you the vinyl you're seeking for.

Do ya ever think about Andy and Annie's dance during "Rag Dolly" and feel like watching that specific scene on loop AND sorta feeling like doing their little dance with someone at the same time 'cause hhhhh I love it and those sibs a bunch, it's just the somftest and adorablest dance to a likewise comfy song made more so by Andy's singing and I get a genuine burst of serotonin revisiting it (and lowkey that scene/song alone was what got me to watch the musical for the first time a couple years back :> if ya also have knowledge on who animated their dance or any part of Rag Dolly for that matter that'd be cool to learn about too! but I understand if that might end up being a lot to share :0)

AAAH i love love love that sequence so much!! its the cutest dance it has so much character and Andy's voice becoming so gentle and sweet right after singing No Girl's Toy is just the best thing ever. he doesn't even like Babette he's just helping his sister make a good impression.

analysis under the readmore:

what's crazy is looking through this whole book - i'm talking about The Animated Raggedy Ann  & Andy - An Intimate Look at the Art of Animation Its History, Techniques, and Artists by John Canemaker (the linked version has no pictures D-:) - Rag Dolly isn't really mentioned that much, despite being essentially the main theme music.

i would love to tell you more for a fact, but i just can't say for sure who animated it, as a lot of scenes aren't credited individually.

for some songs, like Richard Williams doing No Girl's Toy, Tissa David doing Candy Hearts, Art Babbitt doing Blue, and Emery Hawkins doing Never Get Enough, the artists get a section dedicated to them and the main chunk of animation work they contributed. in the credits of the film, Art Babbitt animates the Camel, Emery Hawkins animates the Greedy, etc etc - they were generally in charge of those character-centric scenes, along with a team of inbetweeners, painters, etc.

there isn't one for Rag Dolly, since it's relatively short and bounces between characters. so basically TAKE ALL OF THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT!!!

the ONLY expertise i have is that 1. ive flipped thru john canemaker's book and 2. i love this movie so much

what i CAN do is make wild guesses ^_^ and this first little verse as Ann fidgets with her dress and apron just SCREAMS Tissa David to me. here's a pose from that sequence side-by-side with one of her famous (and one of my favourite) Raggedy Ann drawings.

here's something she notes about Ann's first action sequence of falling off the chair (she was set to work on candy hearts before anything else, to really get to know the characters):

and here's a fantastically convenient gifset from Rag Dolly. EVERYTHING!!! her hair falling in her face, the movement of the fabric, the wonderful sense of timing. also note the lack of eyelashes, which isnt exclusive to one artist or anything, but does pop up in David's drawings:

now to go on a tangent about an artist who could well have worked on that scene, and whom i wish there was some more info about!!!

"The only thing that Disney never understood is that to animate girls, one must be a girl!" - Tissa David believed (along with pretty much the rest of the team) that herself and Chrystal Russell (whose work is woefully sparse in the book but very much present in the movie) were the best animators of 'little Annie'. she also worked on Fern Gully; you can find her credits under her married name, Chrystal Klabunde! she supported Tissa as the primary actor for Raggedy Ann, and her style appears as this distinctive, adorable, muppet-y look throughout the film. these pics are examples of, if not her own drawings, then her stylistic influence in these scenes:

she's credited as animating the playroom dolls, but you can notice her influence in Annie come through from the beginning ('I Look, and What Do I See?') to the end ('Home') of the whole thing. like i said, the credits are never too specific, but if i had to GUESS, then this looks like her stuff. we also know for a fact she worked on the first song because of this lovely set of drawings in the book!

here's the sweetest photo of Didi Conn (Ann's voice) and Chrystal together with some clean-up sheets of a shot right before Rag Dolly - when Ann introduces herself to Babette, 'my name is Raggedy Ann, and this is my brother, Raggedy Andy,' (i still can't confirm whether they're her drawings but i wouldn't be surprised!):

anyway tl;dr: i have no way of knowing for sure who was in charge of it, and no doubt a whole team of artists were involved, (and i'm in no way trying to discredit anyone if i'm wrong) but my best guess is you can thank Tissa David for the first part, and Chrystal Russell (now Chrystal Klabunde) for their dance together - the animation changes subtley between those shots. i wish i had more artists/resources to look at, or god forbid a full breakdown of that scene, but at this point i would bet money on David's part in Annie's little introduction.

vikki and glume have the most lore out of my ocs (for all my current ocs)

even ocs within their universe arent as fleshed out! all the ocs and some of their spoiler-free info are on my art fight page, but all of my current ocs are linked into one universe so heres a ranking of how much lore each character has:

1 - Vikki

this girl definitely has more lore considering her ghost seeing abilities adding onto her character

1 - Glume

being the main protagonist of the universe she almost ties with vikki with how much lore she has. but since vikki has supernatural powers i think shed be considered to have more but these two are at a. lose equal tbh

3 - rose and edric

will not give any info on their roles in the story but they definitely have their own story i have thought out

4 - nancy and eleanor

youve seen nancy on my art fight but she has a supporting story as she was the previous wife of edric, but she doesn’t have too much lore and is just simply mentioned in the comic (thats as much as ill say regarding her). as for eleanor, you’re all just hearing about her today but to prevent spoiling my own comic before its even published… ill just say she has a backstory lol

5- eli

i hate him but think hes so silly at the same time. hes not spoken too much about in the comic but does have a few appearances, i’ll definitely make minicomics with him but despite not much being said about him in the book he actually has a history with glume and an entire profile on their equivalent to twitter where he posts about being an “alpha male” unironically. no, he cannot name 5 soap brands.

6- mark

hes a dead sassy asshole who has a backstory of his life that isnt really explored in the comics besides a small summary since he isnt too important plotwise. but again, along with the other characters with little appearances i might make minicomics oitside the book for him.

7- summer

little is explained about her life besides her occupation and a reference to how she died

8- violet and kevin

more character new to the public but they have a bit of lore and these kids wont be featured in the book but if theres a book two i might add them in. honestly they were made after i finished writing out the full story, i just wanted to expand the universe for funsies yk

9- anne

i feel bad this queen is so low on the list since i love her but i havent thought of a proper backstory for her. all i have is shes glumes sister and is used to kinda bring out glumes character more and is a supporting character. her backstory wouldnt even be relevant in the story as shes a background/sligh side character, but she still deserves one (all the characters that remain vague on lore do)

10- the bathroom ghost

no this is not hanako, in fact, this dude is not even close to being as cool. i cant say much but theyre bland and you only hear about their death. theyre yet another character that is new to the public.

for those curious about the current state of Paranormal (my comic), i’ve decided to do all the bases traditionally. i filled two sketchbooks with a rough draft, but now im working on the actual comic itself on a new sketchbook. its fairly small so once i finish it, ill transfer that book to digital, then get new ones of the same size, and work on the comic segment by segment. honestly itll make the process seem smaller than it is so ill get done faster (i think idk). but so far im moving fast and the style changed again. i might post a sneak peak on here.

Alice & Ann

I was refamilarizing myself with zero since I only remembered some of her backstory, and I found out that her best friend was named Ann, which got me thinking...

⦻ So, in my AU Alice and Ann are college roommates who have a very love-hate relationship. They're eachothers only friends but they don't particularly like each other. They wouldn't be friends if they weren't roomates.

⦻ Ann took a gap year so she feels really behind compared to her peers, she doesn't know how to connect with other freshmen and people her own age seem unapproachable. They're so much more mature, they have this college thing all figured out meanwhile Ann's left in the dust.

⦻ Alice is a psychology student and Ann is in nursing with a psych minor, so they have a few over lapping classes which doesn't help with their tension. They feel they can't branch out and make new friends because they other one is "holding them back." This isnt true of course, they both just don't know how to make friends lol

⦻ Despite this, they do really love and care for eachother, they just aren't that emotionally developed to express their issues without being petty or getting in big fights. They are all each other has, they can't afford to not be friends.

⦻ Alice also has her own hangups that exasperate her mental health. Alice's uncle and caretaker lives nearby, so she visits him on some weekends. Before college, her mental state was the worst it's ever been, and it seems to suddenly stop when she goes to college. She does get better briefly, but it does it last for long. She never put in the work to better herself or even acknowledge the issues she had pent up for so long. She begins talking to Zero again. She's her only real friend, she tells her. Ann is just holding you back, pretending to be your friend. You can't trust her.

⦻ So after months of struggling with her mental health, Zero infecting her, and growing resentment towards Ann, she snaps.

⦻ Halloween night 2006, Ann prepares to go to a party. This will be her big break! She'll make some friends, maybe hookup with someone, who knows what the nighy will bring. ⦻ When Zero gets back to the dorm, Ann is finishing up her makeup, back turned away from the door. "Oh hey. Where've ya been? Thought I'd have to go without you." Zero doesn't respond. Ann turns back to look at her. She's bloodied with white skin and hair.

⦻ Frowning, Ann put down her lipstick."You're wearing that? Don'tcha think it's a little bit intense for a college party? It's gonna scare away anyon-" Before Ann could finish, Zero hit her over the head repeatedly, killing her. She dismembers her body, leaving a horrific display of blood and gore inside their small dorm.

⦻ As Zero escapes into the night to continue her reign of terror, Ann's body begins to reconnect itself on its own.

“Ryuji,” Ann’s tired voice said over the phone, “I’m really sorry for waking you up this late, but- I just... I really need to talk to someone right now.”

She sounded like she was on the verge of tears. Ryuji clicked the lamp on by his bed, shoving the covers off of him. “What’s up, Maki-roll?”

It was an old nickname, one he used a lot in middle school with her. He had heard her last name, Takamaki, and immediately derived a stupid, childish nickname for her. He only really used it now during more vulnerable moments, when he knew Ann needed a bit of a laugh.

Sure enough, she chuckled weakly over the phone, before taking a shaky breath.

“I had the worst dream ever, and I- I can’t get back to sleep. It was one of those that you just- You can’t get out of your head, you know...?”

She sounded anxious, almost frantic. Terrified. Ryuji knew the feeling all too well.

“Yeah, yeah, I get it. I’ve had more of those than I care to remember. What was yours about?”

Ann fell silent for a moment. Ryuji didn’t push it. He knew she needed a second to collect herself, to try and form her thoughts in a way that didn’t push her over the edge. He knew her.

“It was.... It started back near the beginning of the school year. Namely when Shiho-”

She didn’t finish the sentence. Ryuji knew exactly what date she meant.

“...I dreamt she didn’t survive. She had actually died and I was helpless, I couldn’t do anything and I just stood and fucking watched as my best friend was wheeled away and-”

There was the sound of sobbing, and Ryuji rolled out of bed, grabbing his jacket from his wardrobe.

“I’m coming over. Is that okay?”

Ann stopped sobbing long enough to choke out a setence. “Inokashira Park,” she said, her voice wavering.

Inokashira Park. He could do that.

He arrived to find Ann already there, sitting on a bench with her knees cradled against her chest.

“Hey, Ann. You doin’ okay?” He ventured, sitting next to her. She shook her head, leaning against him. As he pulled her into a hug, he noticed the shine of her eyes.

He held her close, letting her sob into his shoulder. On any other night, the roles might have been reversed, with him crying in her arms. But tonight he needed to be strong for his friend.

“Do you want to stay at my place tonight? We can watch those bad rom-coms you like. My mom bought some chocolate last week, too,” he murmured, and felt her nod.

“I... Would like that. I’d like that a lot...”

She sat up, smiling weakly. Once upon a time, he would have been tripping over himself over her. Past Ryuji would have killed to be here, comforting Ann and having her sit as close as she was. But now he knew better. This was one of his best friends, someone he cared for more than even he realised. Ann Takamaki was wonderful, strong, and beautiful. And he was grateful to have her as a friend.

“Come on, then. Shall we, madame?” He stood up, offering his arm in a theatrical, spur-of-the-moment gesture. She laughed, wiping her eyes on the sleeve of her jacket, and accepted his arm gracefully.

“We shall. And... Thank you. Really.”

He met her gaze, and nodded.

“Of course. Anytime.”

And he meant it.

He would always mean it.

Hello. I saw your twitter posts about Amphibia, and love the way you give Anne the same attention other people give Sasharcy. I've been interested in writing a S3B fic starring Anne/Sasha as co-commanders, and I was wondering how to write this in a way that displays them both being capable and not making Anne the "weaker/dumber" of the pair I feel like a lot of the fandom does. Namely, how would you differentiate Anne in combat /leadership from Sasha in ways that don't involve her powers?

hi! im going to throw all this under a cut so i dont stretch peoples dashes by overanalyzing a kids cartoon

so first and foremost, in order to be able to write anything decent, you have to come to grips with one of the major problems of S3B: anne is nerfed!

her intelligence, her strength, her ability to think on her feet? they all take a hit so sasha can shine and result in anne being kind of a weenie in comparison. this is the same girl that led a raid on a government facility, got caught, still managed to wiggle herself out of the situation, and beat up a bunch of government agents with a plastic toy sword. AND THEN she uses her powers with incredible precision and ease, barely showing any signs of fatigue after scaring off armed soldiers and slicing an avocado with a thought. she doesnt even go full blue! this is just using the powers enough that her eyes light up

shes powerful, confident, and extremely capable all on her own and then commander anne went "actually ignore that, shes a doofus that needs to be rescued a lot and has no idea how to lead people. also she cant use her powers on command at all" once you reconcile that, then you can decide whether to stick to canon anne, which is possible! or write your own version of s3bs events

both of these are okay options. i cant give you much advice on writing your own version of things, because thats up to you. but i can say that just because im not a fan of anne being nerfed in s3b? doesnt mean that it doesnt make for compelling writing possibilities

her being put back in her stinky school uniform is unforgivable, though. its very sweet, its cool she realized who she is in the uniform, but come on. her s3a fit is so much more fun and its an outfit she chooses as opposed to getting stuck in it but whatever WHATEVER

despite my complaints, s3b anne isnt actually dumb or weak or incapable, its just that theres only so much storytelling you can fit into a silly cartoon told in 12 minute episodes.

but what you can take away from commander anne is tgat anne is tired from running herself ragged to get the plantars back to amphibia and shes reeling from seeing this place that was her home for a few months be absolutely destroyed

real quick aside, anne never sees a restored amphibia or a fixed wartwood, so thats fun

theres also the angle of anne backsliding a bit into old behavior now that shes around a sasha that reminds her of the actual heroic girl she was immediately amazed by as a child. and that means she also...might think sasha is the only suitable leader or hero. this can lead to an interesting bit of conflict between anne and sasha where anne has to catch herself or have it be pointed out to her that shes not really helping sasha by putting all the decision making on her

which leads into how shes a different leader and a different fighter! anne isnt a tactician. shes impulsive and hot headed and that seeps into what she does. she cant guide an entire army, but she can offer perspective (when she convinces sasha shes improved and convinces tritonio to fight against andrias), she understands how various interpersonal relationships work (improving morale by suggesting a pinata party, knowing that sprig and grime DO NOT get along), and shes very good at offering solutions or ideas to help with problems theyre facing (shes the one that suggests they use the war of the warlocks as a battle strategy) shes also capable of spotting weaknesses and as spontaneous as she is, this works in her favor because anne is an unpredictable monster in a fight. she jumps, she swings wildly but with purpose, she puts her whole force into everything shes doing shes also just as strong and athletic as sasha and she has absolutely zero attachment to her weapons. while sasha keeps using the same swords, anne will use anything at her disposal to win a fight. you can see this in what is the closest thing to her signature technique: throwing her sword thats funny. its just funny. she throws things a lot, but you can kind of see the logic behind her doing this. who the hell throws their sword in a fight??? its literally the worse thing you can do. youre disarming yourself, youre creating a massive opening on yourself, and youre wasting time so you have to collect your weapon again. but she makes it work because she doesnt waste time when she does this. its always a step in what shes going to do immediately after. her goal isnt to do the smart thing, its to do the thing that will give her a shot at hitting her opponent because theyre thrown off by her tossing her own damn weapon. its silly, its ridiculous, but somehow she makes it work and she even does this in the fight against andrias to amazing effect also, keep in mind that annes way of looking at things from a different angle and with a sense of compassion is what wins them the war. sasha wasnt winning against andrias before anne showed up because anne provides an angle and a perspective that sashas just not built for theyre co-captains. theyre partners! and theres a very good reason that sasha couldnt make any progress without anne around. sashas the planner. annes the one getting everyone to believe the plan is worth it

I knew that Red, White, and Royal Blue was a popular book and it’s on my never ending "books to read" list, but still haven't gotten to it yet 🤦🏻‍♀️. So when I heard it was being made into a movie I was definitely interested, and even more so when I watched the trailer. But wow, I had no idea what I was in for - I loved the movie so so much!! I’m gonna wax nostalgic as a 90s baby, lol, but it had that special essence of a really good romcom from the late 90s/early 2000s - love, humor, angst, family - everything! And though I’m a hetero woc, I can see how important it is for the queer community as well. Part of me is so sad it’s over, lol, I just want to see the two actors play more of these characters! They have the most insane chemistry, imo, every interaction from the big ones to the little absentminded touches felt so natural.
