OKAY. NOW THAT I GOT MY SANCTIMONIOUS FINGER-WAGGING OUT OF THE WAY....

I had to take a break, and sure enough, the day I WANTED to come back, the computer I use to write with fucking fried. So a friend and I tried our best to troubleshoot it. We thought the problem was the power supply unit failing, but uh, nope! Turns out my entire motherboard just went kablooey! This is perfect timing, as I just bought a fucking car and I lost the job I had. I built the fried computer seven years ago and today, I learned that the motherboard's chipset is no longer being manufactured. So that means I have two options: either start building a new PC altogether or take a gamble on a used, but compatible motherboard.

If I don't have a computer then how am I back? Am I RPing using Tumblr mobile? GOD NO. I hate navigating that app, trying to get it to do anything other than lag, destroy the aspect ratio of your icons, and demolish the formatting of your posts is just like pulling teeth...Except it's worse than pulling teeth because at least at the dentist, you can opt to get high on nitrous oxide when getting that kind of work done. PLUS UH, I don't technically have a phone. I busted mine a while back and am currently borrowing my mom's. Just another thing to spend money I don't have on. 8')

I am currently using a hand-me-down laptop that I obtained as a gift for building a new desktop computer for my dad early this year. The thing is around... 15 years old a this point, and despite how hard I tried to fix this thing, it freezes regularly, overheats and the fans constantly and the CPU just CHUGS. So far I've been able to get by doing very simple work on it and that's going to be the case for the time being.

Thanks to the limitations I am currently facing, I will be unable to use icons in my RP threads for the time being. They're saved onto the fried desktop computer and I have no way of accessing them currently. It's not a huge loss because I'm not thrilled with my icons but I know some people like to use them, so I apologize for the lack of etiquette there, haha.

Since this laptop suffers like hell doing anything even slightly taxing, I will not be picking up old RPs right now. Most of them are multiple reblogs in and are novel-length, which is typically how I prefer to write. I just know that if i try to open those threads in my drafts and make any changes to them, the browser will freeze and crash. So for the time being, I will just start new, smaller threads rather than try to work on anything I have saved currently.

I AM NOT DROPPING OUR THREADS. I VERY MUCH INTEND TO CONTINUE THEM AND RESPOND TO OUR RPS WHEN I AM ABLE TO GET MY HANDS ON A DEVICE THAT WON'T CRASH WHEN WRITING LARGER POSTS!!!

So, just to reiterate: I will be keeping everything saved and I will NOT be working on any our old RP threads due to the limitations of the 15 year old laptop that I'm currently running. For the time being, I WILL ONLY be writing and participating in new, small RPs. Thank you so much for your understanding. If you have any questions, feel free to send 'em my way!.. Tumblr is so fucking dead. Genuinely these days I will often get ads that straight up just crash the app when I scroll past them! I'll scroll past an ad and either 1. It plays sound without a mute button 2. It lags the app for like 20 seconds after I scroll past it or 3. It straight up crashes my app. I've started getting ads too that fuck up or crash the app that I can't. Even. Fucking. Report!!!! They don't have a report button! The website experience is so much better but I also use mobile a lot idk... Fuck Tumblr if you're gonna give me shit ass ads at least make sure they don't make your app literally unusable.

I got a chromebook.

Yeah yeah Google is evil and all that I know I know but I got it bundled with my new phone which I needed and I needed something that was more practical to type on than my tablet even with the bluetooth keyboard (office 360 on mobile or using the word mobile app is horrible. The worst)

and I don't have a working PC and my laptop, though it technically works, is missing the E key and also has a real lag problem which also makes typing a nightmare.

And I have a lot of essays to write this year.

So Chromebook.

It does work for office 360 and google docs just fine though I can maybe try some of the other browser writing options now and I will be able to write my essays much better.

Some weird complaints though.

There is no caps button. Where the caps button should be is a button that opens the app menu. To use it as a caps button you have use alt+ that button.

there is no left click. To effectively left click anything you have to right click and then hit alt. It's annoying

there are probably other annoyances but those are the two main ones.

It will make this year of study easier though.

i cant even use the mobile firefox browser version of tumblr because i can't turn off media autoplay!!!! You can in the app, probably on pc browser, but on mobile browser? No you gotta be punished for using the browser!!

TL;DR: I prefer TETR.IO, where my sprint PB is 25.612 (811th global as of writing), Blitz PB is ~435K (not top 1K also just a lot of SDPC looping). I also do not have any best times in minesweeper (yet :3)

ngl i'm realizing most of what I put here is unrelated to the ask but uh um uh

The vast majority of the time, I am playing either on Jstris or TETR.IO. Both of which aren't technically "Tetris" and are unofficial browser-based clients.

Within both of these I normally only play sprint / 40 Lines (very self-explanatory, clear 40 lines as fast as possible). Most of the time I'll just constantly play sprint without really thinking about it while I listen to a YouTube video or go through an album or smth. Unfortunately tetrio doesn't keep track of my total completed sprints but jstris does, and the number has climbed to be just a little high (3,148 as of right now). There are also other modes but they range from slightly to vastly less popular and I've played 40L by far the most sooooooo-

Also also also fun story my PBs in 3 of the 4 sprint categories on jstris I got within a few hours (I got a 100L pb on that day but improved it later 😔)

Also this is even more unrelated but I feel like mentioning; tetrio and jstris play largely similarly but with minor differences to DAS and finesse but I've had someone try to die on the hill that tetrio finesse is better which is rather silly of them in my imo

uh um there is Blitz mode on tetrio which i don't play often cause it requires too much mental attention and also a lil bit of luck and also also lots of SDPC DPC looping which is really cool and satisfying but also ngl kinda lame but

(replayed at 2x speed cause 2 minutes is a long time)

Occasionally, I play the default mode on Tetris.com. This is an offical client and generally far more popular. Unfortunately I don't have my high scores saved cause i just switched to a new PC build but my best is around ~700K. I pulled it up while writing since it's been a while and did pretty decent but I really struggle with instadrop gravity

Also worth noting is Tetris 99 since it's what got me into tetis in the first place. I have ~700 hours according to my Switch profile and played around 3,000 games (mostly in 2020). Not really much of highscore to point at with this one except one time I won 10 games in a row which is neat.

(I couldn't find the screencap from the 10 games in a row bit but I did find this which is way funnier)

nowadays I absolutely can not be bothered to play this game cause I've gotten to a point where it is boring and slow and uninteresting and if i want to play a long stressful multiplayer tetis i will go to Tetra-League instead.

I played a bit of PPT and PPT2 but never really got into it, I think my highest rating was around 11 or 12K on PPT.

also I've recently tried playing the mobile app and it is awful and frustrating and terrible and bad and lags a whole lot. my highscore there is like 1.3 million which would've put me far and away in first place in my city, but for some reason it decided that I lived in New Jersey that day so instead I was like 30th.

I got into NEStris at one point and I'm pretty sure my best was a little over 300k but i never put that much practice into it.

i'm still really annoyed and like i keep going through it with different sides of the argument. i do get that it is frustrating that on both app and desktop (if i'm being honest), it loads slow. in my experience it isn't just gifsets. it's all photos. and that's just somehow a downside of tumblr. it isn't the flashiest of websites but it works, yk?

the thing i'm really getting hung up on is that you can't have five seconds of patience and you're just going to say "i don't like gifsets" because you can't wait for it to load. like. you're going to have to learn patience if you want to survive the world and if you don't, you're going to be the person people write "fuck customer" posts about.

idk i don't use any other social media outside of tumblr so i don't know their set ups. idk if they load photos faster or what. but we all know tumblr mobile is notoriously shit. so maybe. idk. stop using the fucking app then and look at shit on desktop. it won't kill you.

also. if y'all hate gifsets so much why do you steal them and put them on twitter and pinterest? make it make sense.

Really liking my new tablet so far so lemme give a review. In summary, up front: If you draw on your phone with your fingers, this is a step up! If you draw on a pen tablet with a PC and want something more portable, this is good enough but not gonna be as good as your, say, Wacom or Huion.

I got the Ugee Q6 a week ago for use with my phone. (Important note: it works only on Android phones/tablets)

Been using it every day since to color (cell shading), sketch, and ink.

PROS:

- it's affordable (Depending on where you are. I got it for equivalent $24 on sale)

- it's very portable. Slightly wider than an A5 notebook and about as heavy as a hard bound book of the same size. The cord stores in the back of the tablet and the pen can be placed in the faux-leather loop

- pen pressure. Of course.

- this is what made me get this over other brands/models: the switch that toggles modes. If you use it with a phone, which has a tall screen, you'll want it in full phone screen mode so the proportions of the tablet area matches the screen. Same if you use an Android tablet or a laptop. (If your tablet area and screen match proportions, you can draw a circle on the tablet and expect a circle to appear on the screen, not an oval.) You can get used to tablet area proportions being off, but it takes a while and it's a pain in the ass.

- it doesn't use up much of my phone battery. Lost maybe 30% in two hours?

CONS:

- default pen pressure sensitivity isn't great. You can adjust sensitivity on a PC, but not on a phone-- unless you use Ibis Paint X. Ibis has its own sensitivity adjustment (pressure curve). The pen pressure is okay on other apps for sketching and coloring, but maybe not painting and inking. (I ink on Ibis because of this). You'd have to find apps that allow you to adjust the pressure curve to how you want it.

- there's a slight lag. It's not noticeable most of the time, especially not when sketching. But I've noticed it when inking. Sometimes when coloring. (I've checked other reviews, and a couple of people have also noticed it: an Osu! player and someone who takes notes with it.) I don't mind it but other people might.

YMMV:

- the pen is thinner and less grippy than I'm used to. Probably just gonna slap a pen grip on it. It's about the width of a mechanical pencil.

- the textural feedback of the pen against the tablet surface is a little plastic-y, but with a little more grip to it. Kind of between plastic and smooth rubber. I'm more used to a really textured, metallic(?) feeling surface.

- the cord is really short. It's more designed for mobiles. If you want to use it for a PC you'll need an extension cord.

...

And that's it, that's the very long review. Dunno if this thing will last, but if it lasts a year I'd be happy with that. It was (relatively) cheap after all. (It doesn't feel cheap)

listen. sometimes idm ads. i do want sites i use or youtubers i watch frequently to earn money so i can keep using/watching them, and i won't spend money myself, so this is a good compromise.

the problem is!!!!! ads make these sites lag, sometimes cover pages and make them unusable, or they clog videos and pop up so often and are so long they're practically as long as the video itself, to the point i just stop watching youtubers who have too many ad breaks even if i do like their content

and i gotta say, i don't get it? like being annoyed with an ad won't make me want to get the product - and i know that's not the point, the point is to put it at the front of your mind for when you or someone you know need the product this company provides - and i do end up clicking ads for things i find interesting sometimes

and the thing is. with video ads especially. i think smaller is better for everyone. one 5 seconds ad is so much less annoying than a 20 seconds one or even just two 5 seconds ads, even if it appears multiple times per video, bc psychologically it feels more bearable, yknow? the product is still gonna be in my subconscious or w/e but now i won't associate it with being painfully annoyed, so this is better for the advertisers too. so why not go for that!

also, sometimes ads are taken straight from tv directly to youtube (probably why some are very long), and the problem with that is their volume. like. if i'm watching smth in the middle of the night and your car insurance ad is twice as loud as the video i'm watching, i'm gonna hate it even more (a friend who learned copywriting told me they make ads louder on tv bc if you lower your volume during an ad break and tune out or just change channels quickly, it's more likely to catch your attention this way. i get that but why not just do this very minor adjustment when you sell that ad to youtube. please)

as for websites, some of these ads are so fucking evil 😭 i ranted abt this before but oh my god weight loss and especially fasting apps ads should be illegal i am not even slightly exaggerating. ads literally being malware??? not even getting into how scary algorithms can get.

and as i mentioned about lags, so many ads running at the same time, or the same ad space changing rapidly make things so slow that i once again have to wonder who's benefitting from this. i can't even see what some of the ads are bro, and i don't want to, but like, you're just losing money here, and if i know a site doesn't work well with ads enabled i will either switch to a browser with adblock (tbc, talking abt mobile here. firefox's app is shitty but necessary) or, if i can't use adblock, won't use that site anymore. so again. who's benefitting from this.

idk what the point of this rant is. ads today literally exist for the sake of existing i swear. i don't think they help sell things more at this point, which is the whole point of ads in the first place. and for smaller or newer businesses, they sometimes have to raise prices to make up for paying for their advertising campaign (drew gooden's videos about buying random items he gets ads for showcase this phenomenon well i think) which makes people less likely to buy them, and i can't help but wonder if some products would be better if their companies spent less money on just advertising them and instead actually invest in quality (see also: any shady company that targets youtubers for sponsorships constantly while having an extremely bad product, or barely paying their employees a living wage, etc)

anyway yeah these are my probably not too uncommon thoughts on the matter. have a nice rest of the day

Robert's Daughter Taylor came and brought 2 Samford friends with her. The Butler's were having some huge Hoo-rah at 6224 yesterday, and that's why we got to enjoy the presence of the girls. Taylor/Jordan/Emma Kate all were great sports in spite of the weather and Coach calling Jordan "Shorty" and Emma Kate "Bean Pole". They all got nice LHCF jersey's.

Today was Shannon's Birthday. Typically the girls always stage a birthday celebration but they didn't for Shannon. I suspect there is a large degree of envy and jealousy because Shannon looks so hot (new RED yoga-pants today!!) for her age (Armando said "38"), and she is married to the handsomest and strongest drug-free Mexican currently attending LHCF. So there !!

Only 11 more days until the Winter Solstice; after-which our daylight hours slowly get longer. My Daffodils are aware and are already poking their brave little Spring sprouts above ground. Unfortunately for outdoor CrossFitters, warm weather lags significantly behind the return of daylight hours, so we have 3 more months until Spring-Time officially arrives. If you are curious as to the astronomical reasons for the "Warm weather lag", ask Timmy. He will be authoritarian giving you his latest conspiratorial theory including exactly when the oceans will begin to boil.

you know what the irritating ugly piece of shit little badge in the corner of my dash on mobile actually does serve a purpose: the infuriating constant movement gives me an indicator of how much this shit app is lagging so I don't try to do any complex actions that might put too much strain on it and make it crash, such as "scrolling down" or "reblogging a post." thanks, tumblr - you really are looking out for us!!
