Could you write a blurb of Matty's reaction to Amelia's first day of school? Like trying not to cry but failing at it because his baby has grown up really fast and she's starting a new chapter in her life🥺💖

Holiiii 🥰 A/N: Omg you just want to see me cryyy! 🥺🥺

Matty was feeding Arthur. Well, that was half the truth. He was really trying to feed his youngest. Archie was on his high chair, with his eyes half open and a plastic cup attached to his mouth. Matty was sitting beside him, holding the cup, making sure he doesn't make a big mess. His little baby looking sleepy and cute. Matty's mind drifted inevitably to Amelia.

Mel was upstairs with Y/n making sure her uniform was neat, and her bag had all the new books, pencils and all what she needed. Matty could hear her sweet and innocent voice chatting away. She was excited, Matty's heart swelling a little. He wanted to keep her inside the house with him, he didn't want her to grow up any more. It was inevitable.

"You're not going to betray me, right?" Matty asked Arthur, the boy only opened one eye wider and proceed to close it again. "We...the boys of the house...have to stick together!" he continued.

"Daddy, stop." Arthur whined, making his father chuckled. His baby hated mornings.

"I love you."

"Love you." the little boy mumbled back.

The sound of feet running closer to the kitchen startled Matty. Amelia stopped at his side. Her father left the plastic cup on the big table, turning to give her his full attention.

"Look, daddy!" she took a turn, so he can see her uniform and her hair styled for the occasion.

Matty tried really hard to contain the tears inside his eyes, Amelia looked so grown up and beautiful. His heart sank, his lips quivering visibly.

Amelia's face dropped. "Daddy? What's wrong?" she asked, coming closer to him.

"Nothing, baby." he caressed her cheek.

"Are you sad?" she titled her head. Matty smiled while his eyes continued to stream tears.

"No..." he stopped to think. "I'm just going to miss you, mel-mel."

"Oh, daddy!" she exclaimed, rounding him as best as she could, since Matty was still sitting on a chair. "Mommy says it's for a short time, and then I'll be back home to play with you and Arthur." She was so mature for his own liking, his smart girl.

Matty fell to the floor, rounding her with his arms. "I know, baby. We'll be here waiting for you to tell us everything!" he tried to cheer himself a little because Matty was far from crushing this special day for her.

"Okay, time to go." Y/n showed up in the kitchen, taking in the picture in front of her eyes.

Matty and Amelia hugging on the floor, while Arthur was passed out in his high chair. The latest made her laughed out loud.

"Come on, my dears." she kept talking, approaching Archie and taking him in her embrace. He didn't startle much. "Are we okay?" she asked, mostly for Matty.

Amelia turned around, staring at her mom. "Ready!" she screamed.

Matty pulled a face behind his daughter that warmed Y/n's heart. She was moved by her oldest baby starting school, but Matty was the one not taking it very well.

"Mhm." he managed to say, standing up.

"Okay, let go then."

Amelia turned again, taking Matty's hand without asking. She started moving towards the door, pulling him with her. Matty obeyed her command. Y/n admired them from behind, with Arthur snuggling closer to her neck. She left a kiss on his hair line, going after to brush his curls back.

i didn’t really do it on purpose, but most of the main characters are only children because i try to keep the side cast as small as i can. it’s hard enough for me to show each person’s relationship with their friends and parents, let alone with siblings too. but asa does interact with his siblings, he used to talk to casper quite a lot when casper still lived at home. it’s harder with sadie because she’s so little and asa has been spending less time at the mayfield house now that danny is on tour. stevie is an only child on purpose, because her parents didn’t even plan to have one baby, let alone multiple. jada would’ve had siblings if her mom had lived longer – they had trouble conceiving jada and another baby just didn’t happen in time. that’s one regret i have; i wish that aileen had just had a new baby when she died, so jada could have a little sibling ;-; and honestly i should’ve given elaine siblings! that’s another big regret. if i could go back in time i would give elaine an older brother or two. the reason i didn’t is because i wasn’t sure how big of a role elaine would play in the narrative when i first introduced her :/ she was only supposed to be stevie’s school friend but then i was like you know what.... i’m incorporating her into the fold

okay good, i felt bad being like ACTUALLY ELAINE IS A GOOD PERSON AND I BROUGHT RECEIPTS jfksjdkjs i’ve never denied that elaine is immature – it’s actually one of the first traits i listed when developing her character. i just don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with being immature. i wish life was a little kinder to all of us, so that we may all be immature for longer. there’s no heroism in growing up too fast, it’s just.... sad. but to answer your question (which is a really good question btw and i’m glad you’re thinking about it), no, elaine’s friends have never let her down.... YET. lmao. there’s something happening very soon that might add more nuance to this conversation!

i’m going to keep sadie as a toddler for a while! i don’t want the age difference between them to be too big. and yes!! mac (asa’s cat) can see finn! he’s been able to pet mac a few times ;-; and i always wanted to show a scene with finn and sadie, but it never worked out. i have some really rudimentary dialogue from when sadie was much younger:

i agree! i don’t think most people can be categorized as “givers” and “takers” in terms of emotional support, because everyone should be doing both on occasion, but some people tend to go one way or the other and elaine is definitely more likely to push her own feelings aside to cheer someone else up. it’s usually a subconscious decision though – she doesn’t feel that she needs any support, even when she probably does. i think it’s important to mention this, because i don’t want anyone thinking elaine’s friends are being bad friends!

time is so funny because in my head i’m like “asa wasn’t born THAT long ago” and then i look and it was 4 years ago FJKSJDS but omg hiiiiiiiiii 💖 yeah in hindsight i wish i had gone with the divorce plot, but oh well, i lived and learned. thank you so much and i hope you’ve been well !!! 💗

(i would share my own laptop but they actually don’t sell it anymore, it’s pretty old lol for laptop standards)
