Summary: It’s been five years since you’ve seen your ex, Rin. He’s still not over you and you’re not over him. When he finds out you have children he thought he didn’t have a chance. Then he finds out they’re his? All of a sudden you’re teaching Suna how to be a single dad.
note from denise: hi hii 🥺 I’m so happy and i love this chapter even though it’s all over the place so I’m sorry plz forgive me 🙇♀️
Warnings: Fluff, angst I guess, drama, and cuteness twin overload

Chapter eight
You heard Hana and Jamie bickering in the living room as you took the burnt part off of the bell peppers you roasted. You were looking out the window in front of the sink every once in a while to check up on the kids. They were having fun playing with their father and uncles. You’ve never seen them smile brighter.
You were happy that they finally had their father, Tobio was a good figure but obviously not their real father. Earlier Rin gave his first scolding to your son for shoving Akira and he also told Akira that calling people idiot wasn’t nice. You couldn’t help but snicker behind your cardigan since he was obviously nervous and a bit awkward but it all worked out in the end. The twins and your best friends were peering through the door at the scene and they were in awe.
It just looked so natural. You, Rin and the kids. All that’s missing is a pet dog or cat. Jamie thought if you and Rin really try then you both could fall in love again and be a nice family all together. She grew up with divorced parents so she knew how tough it could be. She doesn’t want to hear you and Rin fighting in the future about upcoming holidays. Or maybe eventually having to separate the twins.
“Hana do you think you could ask the guys if they want to stay for dinner?” You said from the kitchen. “Oka-“ “No y/n, I think you should do it.” Jamie popped in. “Huh? I’m literally cooking.” You said as you reached into the bag of roasted peppers. Your fingers were stuck onto the black crisps. “You’re trying to avoid them.” She squinted and you rolled your eyes. “No I’m not.” You defended yourself. “Yes you are.” She deadpanned. “You never say no to setting for your kids. Even if you’re busy you tell them to give you five or ten minutes but when Rini asked you straight up said no since you needed to cook. I think that stung him a bit. He probably wanted to show off his skills to his dad.” She said and you frowned slightly. “I mean it’s fine, she’s probably uncomfortable which makes sense. The worst people in the world are just chilling in her house. It makes sense that she’s on edge.” The familiar voice said and you turned to see Atsumu leaning against the breakfast bar between your kitchen and living room. You didn’t want to say he’s right..but I mean..he’s right.
“...would you like to stay for dinner?” You asked awkwardly as Jaime sighed and walked away. “Mmm depends, what are you making?” He teased to try to help you ease up. “Food, either take it or leave it.” You said plainly as you flipped the pepper on the stove. “I miss your cooking so I think I’ll stay. Let me call Osamu so he can help.” He said and you immediately protested. “No it’s fine, you guys are the guests. I’ll feel bad.” You said and he chuckled. “Y/N-Chan..” he started, “Osamu owns his own restaurant, all he does is eat, cook, and work out. He would want nothing more than to help you cook. It’s in his DNA.” He said and you rolled your eyes. “Fine ask Rin if he wants to stay too.” You said. “Oh he’ll want to stay, plus we all carpooled together.” He said and you nodded and he left.
“Yo, we gotta go.” Jamie said from the doorway. “Did you say bye to the kids?” You asked and she nodded. “Sorry Y/N, we have a doctors appointment.” Jamie frowned slightly. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll call you later.” You smiled and she nodded sadly. After a quick goodbye hug they were out the door and Osamu was waiting in the kitchen to help you cook.
“Alright boss, let’s get started.” He said as he washed his hands and you chuckled.
Dinner went good, the kids mainly talked and were the stars of the show. After dinner they wanted to show their uncles and dad their Minecraft worlds on their tablets, courtesy of Tobio.
Suna offered to help clean up but you insisted it was fine and to spend as much time with the kids and he reluctantly agreed and you were left alone.
Your phone buzz after you sat on the breakfast bar to enjoy yet another cup of tea and you almost spilled it when you saw who was calling. “Holy shit, holy shit.” You muttered and the guys immediately turned to you from their spots on the couch. “I’m going to take this phone call I’ll be right back.” You said leaving Rin in charge and you answered while you made your way down the hall.
“Hello?” “Hi is this Y/N? This is Natsuo, the songwriter and director for the soundtrack for Kimetsu No Yaiba. From my understanding you are voicing Nezuko and Shinobu, correct?” “That is correct, sir.” You replied, “Well I stumbled across your portfolio and resume and I phone called your old vocal coach and he said some things about you.” He said. “Well I hope they’re all good.” You chuckled nervously.
“Yes they’re more than good actually and I wanted to offer you the opportunity of singing the opening for the anime, if not then maybe the outro. Would you be interested? Of course you’d have to come to the studio and sing for us and we’ll decide but I wanted to ask first since I know you also work as a volleyball commentator as well.” He said and you gasped.
“Yes sir of course, I would be honored...” you said happily. “Great! I see that you come in the studio on Monday for the read through of the script. Can you come earlier to audition?” He asked and you agreed and set up a time.
Normally any other person would want to audition after but if it’s singing, you can’t eat or drink sweet stuff before because it messes up your throat and you can accidentally burp and embarrass yourself. So you’d rather do the singing audition before and eat whatever is at the snack bar during the read through.
When you hung up the phone you squealed and did a little happy dance. You quickly took a deep breath and you made your way out of your office back to the living room. “Um...where are the twins? The Miya’s I mean.” You asked when you saw that only Suna was chilling with a kid on each side of him. “Osamu needed to check up on his shop and Atsumu had to go to the gym. I decided to stay behind because I didn’t know how long you would take.” He replied.
“But didn’t you all carpool?” You asked and he nodded. “I can Uber. Don’t worry.” He said and you nodded and sat next to Rini. “Kids guess what.” You said happily and they both looked up from their tablets. “I go to the studio on monday—“ “THE STUDIO CAN WE GO?!” They immediately asked with bright eyes. “Uh—I don’t know guys, I’m working and Jamie has work too i don’t know if someone can watch you guys at the studio.” You said. “What time and I’ll go. I can keep them entertained.” Suna spoke up.
“I’m gonna be there for a few hours..I’ll have a read through of the script and a song audition before that..” you told him. “Wait what do you do anyways?” He asked curiously and the kids gasped. “You don’t know what mommy does for a living?! She’s the coolest mom in the world.” Rini exclaimed with extended arms to emphasize the world. “Listen to the voice of the narrator.“ Akira said and shoved the tablet in his hands. It was Peppa pig. Honestly they couldn’t find a cooler role you played in? Even the side characters were fine, but Akira had to choose peppa pig.
Rin listened to peppa as she scolded her little brother Georgie. And finally he heard your voice narrate what happened and his eyes widened. “No way, you’re a voice actor?” He asked and you nodded. “Wow imagine that. You were always so shy and now your voice is heard by millions across the world.” He teased and your face tinted.
“Well when you put it like that it freaks me out!” You snatched the tablet from his hands and the kids looked at each other with raised brows. “I’m only kidding. But it’s pretty amazing that you do that. Any big roles you’re playing soon?” He asked. “I may or may not be acting in Kimetsu No Yaiba.” You said which was a manga series you both were obsessed with when you were together. “Say sike right now.” He gasped and you gave him that I’m serious face.
“Congrats Y/N. That’s freaking amazing. May i ask who you’re voicing?” He asked and you shook your head. “That’s a secret.” You said and he sighed. “Man got my hopes up for nothing.” He muttered causing your kids to giggle.
“Momma we invited dad to the field trip tomorrow he said yes.” Akira spoke up and your eyes widened. “Wait what—“ “I didn’t necessarily say yes. I wanted to make sure it was cool with you, first. They told me that they were homeschooled and you take them to different places for field trips all the time.” He tried to correct Akira and you nodded.
“Well...I mean..if you want to go then it’s fine. We’re going to an aquarium.” You said and the kids gave him puppy dog eyes. “Alright I’ll go then. It’ll be fun and you guys can show me what you’ve learned.” He smiled softly and the kids cheered. Is this really a good idea? You don’t know. But if your kids are happy, then you’re happy.
“Rin It’s getting late they have bath time and then they need to sleep.” You told him as the kids ran up and down the hall racing with Rini’s toy cars. “Alright then I’ll leave.” “I’m not kicking you out of anything-“ “No it’s fine I get it. I’ve intruded in your territory long enough.” He chuckled and you nodded. “Children of the corn! I’m leaving.” He called and immediately the kids emerged from the hallway and began whining and protesting. “You need to take a bath then go to bed. It’s late. I’m seeing you tomorrow anyways.” He knelt down on his knee to be of eye level with the kids.
“But we don’t want you to leave. I won’t sleep if you don’t read me a story.” Rini pouted and Akira nodded and you both sighed. “Fine, I’ll read you a bed time story and you will go sleep.” He told them and they nodded.
You rounded up the kids for a bubble bath and Rin was sitting on the counter as you explained what kind of kids soap you use and such. But he was mostly watching the kids play with the bubbles. “Hey Akira do you think I’ll look cool with my hair like this?” Rini asked with his messy wannable mohawk, he looked more like the grinch. Akira looked at her brother and snorted. “You look like a troll.” She muttered causing Rini to pout. “You’re so mean.” He mumbled. You got the shower head and told Akira to close her eyes as you finished washing her hair and body and she was finished. “Do you wanna try to finish Rini while I change Akira?” You asked Suna and his eyes widened. “I only know how to bathe my dog, I don’t know how to bathe a kid.” He protested. “Weren’t you watching me?” You asked. “I was distracted with the bubbles, okay.” He deadpanned and you sighed. “Rini help your dad.” You said plainly and left despite Suna’s protests.
“Alright princess, let’s get you dried up and ready for bed, yeah?” You asked the shivering girl in your arms and she nodded. You placed her on the bed and dried her hair a bit and you began to put on her lotion. You helped her into her underwear and she wanted to wear her fox onzie so you began helping her feet in when Rini stumbled in naked with Rin chasing after him with a towel. They were both soaking wet.
“Oh my god.” You sighed. “Boys.” Akira mumbled and you nodded. “You’re worse than washing a dog.” He said as he held him and dried his hair. “Woof.” Rini snickered and Suna flicked his forehead. “I’m soaking wet now.” He deadpanned to his son. You zipped up Akira after successfully placing her in her onzie and you moved on to your son. “Stop giving your dad such a hard time, he’s new to this whole parenting thing ya know?” You told him as you began to rub his face with lotion. “Akira go brush your teeth.” You told her and she pulled her dad along with her. “What do you want to wear to sleep?” You asked. “Can I wear my Fox onzie too?” He asked and you nodded. “Of course.” You replied and helped him into it too.
Rini went on his way to brush his teeth and you were met with the view of Rin helping his daughter floss and you just wanted to melt. This was so freaking cute. You don’t know if your heart could handle the cuteness. “Alrighty next victim!” Rin said and picked up Rini. He began to help him brush his teeth. You helped Akira down from the counter and she went off to look for a good book. You decided it was best to get one of Tobio’s shirts and shorts he had lying around for Rin so he wouldn’t get sick.
When Rini finished brushing his teeth, he went out to help Akira search for a book. “Are you still soaked?” You asked and Suna nodded. “Here wear this so you won’t get sick.” You tossed him some gym shorts and a random T-shirt. He gave a small thanks and you closed the bathroom door to leave him to change. “Alright where are my little foxes?” You hummed and you found your little demons kids jumping on your bed and patiently waiting to read. “Why aren’t you both in bed?” You asked and they stopped jumping and turned to you. “We wanna sleep here with you and daddy!” Rini said and you almost choked on air.
WITH RIN?! ARE THEY CRAZY OR CRAZY?
“Baby he’s not spending the night. He’s only going to read you a bedtime story then leave. You’ll see him tomorrow when you wake up.” You told them and they both had the saddest look on their faces. “But we wanna sleep with you and daddy. Please can he spend the night. Please please please!” Akira begged.
“I don’t mind if you don’t. It’s only for the night.” Rin almost whispered in your ear and you turned your head to him. “Are you sure? What about tomorrow? What are you going to wear?” You asked, “We can stop by my apartment in the morning before we head out.” He said and you raised a brow and turned back to your kids they were already comfy on the middle of your bed and you released your nth sigh of the day. “Fine, one night.” You answered and grabbed your pajamas and left to the bathroom to change.
When you returned Rin was on the left side of the bed with Rini right next to him. Akira patted your spot on the right side and you sat against the headboard of the bed. The twins had two books they wanted you both to read but they all fell asleep while you read the second one. You looked to see Rin, Rini and Akira sleeping and you can never get over how similar they looked like Rin. You quietly hopped out of bed and put the books away and turned off the lights.
You woke up to the sun shining on your face and arms around your waist. You felt a weight on your chest and you sighed and opened your eyes. You blinked a few times to make sure you weren’t seeing things but sure enough, Rin was sleeping on your chest. Just like old times and you tried to control your breathing. You don’t want to be the type of ex who yells and they fall off the bed. You realized the kids were not on the bed too and if Rin was cuddling you, then they must have been gone for a while.
“Rintarou—the kids—WAKE UP!” You quickly shook him and he opened his eyes and quickly moved away. He felt around him and he noticed the kids weren’t there. You both paused in silence to see if you can hear them but when you didn’t you quickly yeeted yourself off the bed with Rin following right at your tail. You opened the door to the twins room and you saw them in their own bed hugging their plushies. You held a hand over your chest and you leaned against the doorframe. “My heart literally dropped.” You turned to Rin.
“Mine did too. Do they usually do that?” He asked. “No, never.” You sighed and closed the door.
The twins opened their eyes and they looked at eachother from across the room. “I told you mom would get a heart attack. We’re lucky she didn’t cry.” Akira whispered. “Whatever at least they cuddled together like a nice married couple.” Rini whispered back and Akira nodded. “I hope mommy and daddy get back together.” Akira said. “They will, our plan is perfect.” Rini whispered mischievously and Akira smiled.

an absolutely massive Haikyuu!! fic rec pt. 1
I went through my entire ao3 history because I’m insane, AND here’s my favorites. (There’s not a lot of aus because I’m not a huge fan of them, and there’s no sad endings. I’m a hopeless romantic leave me alone. There is angst though! Lots)
Beginning with SakuAtsu (I’m a hoe for Atsumu):
Hide and seek, by badreputation (10k. E. canonverse)
It sure is a good thing Atsumu doesn't have a latex allergy
It’s just a fleeting infatuation. As long as he pushes through it he’ll manage. So what if nowadays there isn’t a night where he doesn’t dream of Sakusa pinning him down on his own bed, in the shower or make Atsumu go down on his knees in the hallway? Those are just pesky details.
Some Memories, We May Keep, by mika60 (31k. T. canonverse)
This is canon, fight me on it.
The missing panels, the missing games, the missing moments.
The them we never saw.
*Now complete! :)*
every action has an equal and opposite reaction, by akanemnida (10k. T. canonverse)
Miya Atsumu gets a modeling contract with Calvin Klein, which sets Kiyoomi's heart in motion.
(Or: Sakusa Kiyoomi realizes that the rules governing the universe are absolute rubbish at explaining matters of the heart.)
Ass-fingering as a prelude to relations of the emotional kind: a case study, by neverwere (2k. E. canonverse)
Fucking hilarious, the imagery is absolutely hilarious.
"Marry me, he thinks, as he comes around Sakusa's fingers and all over himself.
This. This is exactly why you don't let strangers or very attractive teammates finger you out of the blue.
Everyone knows that the ass is the shortest way to the heart."
Or
When it comes to sex, Atsumu has rules. Guidelines! SOPs! He swears they work, they've always worked.
Until they don't.
parallax error: angle of inclination, by min_mintobe (10k. T. canonverse)
But now there's the one person Atsumu'd promised himself never to touch. His eyes leave Atsumu breathless with guilt at seventeen, and he spends the next six years safe in the satisfaction of making things right.
Feelings, of the physical kind, and one kiss.
ft. competitive spirit, childishness, and late night conversations.
Atsumu POV.
autumn ends, but we remain, by wolfsbvne (5k. T. canonverse)
Author says in their ending notes that they're not an ‘author’, but methinks they should write more and pursue that career path because this was wonderful.
atsumu stares at his ceiling at 2am. he stares until he can make out designs in his popcorn ceiling. a cat there, an onigiri here, and then something that suspiciously looks like a mop of hair, triangle eyebrows, and oh those two bumps are moles right above what atsumu just mapped out as an eye.
(or, atsumu is in kind of in love. sakusa is maybe in like.)
I left a taste in your mouth, by emso (26k. E. bodyguard au)
Because obviously
Sakusa fixes him with a vague expression of something like distaste. There's a scathing edge to his tone when he speaks. "Contrary to what you seem to believe, not everyone who meets you is instantly dying to get into your pants, Miya."
"Lucky I don't really care right now what 'everyone' wants to do, then." Atsumu swivels his mug around on the tabletop a few times, and then brings it to his mouth to drain the last few dregs of his latte. Over the rim of his mug, he adds casually, "Just you."
Whoa hey Bodyguard Omi, I think Spoiled Rich Kid Tsumu might possibly have a teensy crush on you.
How do you know you're in love?, by spiritscript (12k. T. canonverse)
Pure art
“So, how did you know you were in love? How did it feel?” Atsumu felt nervous asking this, a slight wiggling in the pit of his stomach, unable to look at the man beside him who rolled his shoulders in an attempt to reset his posture. “I mean, you didn’t resonate with what I said, so, what is love to you Omi-kun?”
Atsumu thinks he must be in love with Hinata Shouyou and so asks the best person he knows to help him understand his feelings
san'yo expressway, 6:17 pm, by yamabota (13k. T. canonverse)
Of violent forethoughts, and handheld car vacuums.
Atsumu tilts his head to watch a slice of orange light bend over the impassive planes of Sakusa’s face. He is absolutely, ruthlessly beautiful. It makes Atsumu want to punch something—put his foot through the windshield—scream, maybe.
Kiss him again, maybe.
They have 344 kilometers to figure this one out.
Different Kinds of Dysfunctional, by DeathBelle (Series, 5 works. T-E. Canonverse)
Honestly, I think this one is kind of famous amongst Sakuatsu readers but I can’t not include it. If I recall correctly, this is the fic that got me into Sakuastu, so thanks, DeathBelle. The characters are portrayed really well (i.e. Sakusa is disgusted and confused, and Atsumu is a little shit). You’ve got a good balance between conversations and descriptive thoughts and all-in-all it’s just a really good read.
Atsumu said into the heavy silence, “You can’t say you’ve never thought about it.”
"Thought about what?" said Sakusa.
Atsumu smiled to himself, smug. "You know."
"No, I don't."
"You know. Of course you’ve thought about it. There’s no reason to be ashamed, Omi-kun. I’m a real catch.”
Sakusa was appalled. "You're disgusting."
"You flatter me. I'm not judging you. I can't lie and say I haven't thought about it, too."
Sakusa shifted, slowly, to peer over his shoulder. He wasn’t scowling, but his expression was unreadable. “Please tell me you’re joking.”
Atsumu wasn't joking, and he was about to get more than he bargained for.
i'll do anything you say (if you say it with your hands), by liliapocalypse (7k words. T. canonverse):
Oh, god. This one was so cute. Super fluffy. Loved the metaphors and symbolism. Sometimes you just can’t say things out loud.
When a bad injury shocks the whole V. League, Sakusa finds himself paired with Atsumu for more rigorous assisted stretches before every training. Atsumu then finds himself writing random letters on Sakusa’s skin to soothe the spiker, forcing Sakusa to reevaluate how his touch aversion became an irresistible yearning for more, and how the boy with the annoying hair somehow brought that hunger to life.
Or, the fic where Atsumu mindlessly writes a confession on Sakusa’s back when he thought Sakusa wasn't paying attention. Sakusa always did.
mortality is found is the flesh of your sins, by novrik (10k. M. canonverse)
This is literally my favorite fic of all time. Not just of Sakuatsu, not even of the Haikyuu fandom. Ever. Favorite fic ever. Listen, I’m an atheist, but this fic took me on a religious experience that I haven't come down from yet. The symbolism had me actually shivering, and I had to put my phone down quite a few times. Just, oh wow, just read it. I’d like to share my favorite line; ‘And if Sakusa is Eve, if he takes a bite, what then? Perhaps, he is a little afraid of the knowledge he will gain’. My god, author, if you ever see this, this is not only a plea for you to continue writing, but also an offer of marriage. Your hand, author?
dickhead one, sakusa kiyoomi. dickhead two, miya atsumu. neither understand how to communicate.
Pray tell, why are you drawn to him?
Are you drawn to him in the way he looks beautiful even when crying?
When his eyes are red, shiny tears streaking down, lips quivering, is he beautiful?
sakuatsu domesticity simulator, by pseudoanalytics (75 words. T. canonverse)
75 words because it's actually a digital art simulator. An interactive fic! How frickin’ cool is that? The art is so beautiful and I love the plotline and ugh, just everything. Please read, or watch, or click around, yes. Good.
Update: artist created another interactive fic and of course it is wonderful. SunaOsa this time! https://newttxt.itch.io/cheesecake honestly just check out @newttxt their work is amazing and I love everything they do.
a vaguely interactive mixture of fic, art, and html, where you too can experience the inherent romance of a big fat jerk and a too-blunt jerk attempting intimacy
***
(this is the result of letting the sakuatsu brainworms really get to you...)
Pas De Deux, by hatsuna (19k words. T. Ballet/college au)
There's just something about prim, proper ballet Sakusa and human-benign-tumor Atsumu that makes my heart burst. Seriously gorgeous writing style, loved every second. By the same author who wrote ‘liminal spaces’ (which is also just perfect) so that should give you a good idea of the style.
The mystery athlete gives Kiyoomi a once over in the mirror. “Yer pretty tall,” he observes. The twang of an accent rasps low in his throat. His brazen eyes drift to Kiyoomi’s legs, and something like exhilaration glints gold in his gaze. “Good quads, too. Ya ever played volleyball?”
Ah. So it’s volleyball.
“I’m a dancer. Ballet and contemporary, mostly.”
the affective presence of our black and white reruns, by kozumess (19k. E. canonverse)
Beautiful, classic misunderstandings, my heart actually physically ached at that one scene (you’ll know the scene when you come to it). Kiyoomi is so refreshingly relaxed(? Is that the right word to use? We all know Omi never truly relaxes).
but the want, it's always there, constant like the static playing on every television channel, present even when the station disconnects.
cut the conversation, just open your mouth, by meeksoo (E. 16k. canonverse)
Absolutely filthy...BUT WITH FEELINGS! Completely nails the Sakuatsu dynamic, and protective ‘Tsumu? Love it.
Sakusa opens the door. He always does.
They’re teammates first, barely even friends. But they hook up on the regular and it works. It’s simple, easy. But then a fan gets too close, Sakusa reacts, and Atsumu is swept up in how quickly things can get complicated.
__
As Atsumu palms himself over his briefs, still feeling off, he realizes it’s because he still wants it. Him. Sakusa. Even after already having him earlier.
He should probably feel self-conscious, mildly ashamed even, that he’s panting ‘Omi Omi’ into the dark beneath the steady thrum of the AC unit when Sakusa’s right down the hall, probably good for it if Atsumu ended up back at his door. Instead, he lays there, writhing and sweaty, alone in his hotel room bed thinking about Sakusa and touching himself.
Afterward, as cum begins to cool on his chest, Atsumu really can’t help but face the fact that things may be getting complicated.
the hands that beckon me to come, by Ellieb3an (4k. E. canonverse)
So hot, what the fuck!
The toss, the run, the spike-serve at the end of it all—Sakusa sees it happen in perfect clarity as if time has slowed and his vision narrows to the center where just Miya exists, all powerful muscle and extraordinary skill and that air of confidence.
Sakusa isn’t one of the best receivers in the league for no reason, so his body moves on muscle memory, forearms absorbing the sting of the hit. It’s not enough. But his eyes are still on Miya—on the way his shorts ride up his muscular thighs as he lands, on the bead of sweat dripping down his forehead, on the clench of his fist thrust into the air—when the ball ricochets out of bounds.
***
Atsumu stays late at practices to work on his new third serve, even when his frustration with it starts throwing off the rest of his game. Sakusa notices and starts hanging back to secretly watch him from the gym doors. He’s fascinated with Atsumu's determination... and more than a little turned on by it, too.
you're the flame i use (when it gets dark), by starkartifices (55k. M. canonverse. Ongoing)
Everything is the same except the Sakusas are super rich.
“Oh, if you want dear, you could bring a plus one. Though, I doubt you have a partner yet.”
“I do actually.”
“What was that, dear?”
"I do have a partner, I mean."
alt title: crazy rich sakusas
the inherent romance of classical conditioning (or; the fine art of emotional recognition), by pseudoanalytics (13k. E. canonverse)
Ah, yes. A Pavloved sex life. A Pavloved LOVE life??
It's stupid. Atsumu isn't a romantic, no matter how many times he's imagined laying Sakusa out and finally really touching him.
So there's no explanation for why Atsumu is constantly stuck thinking about brushing his fingertips against the meat of Sakusa's palms or the prominent tendons in his freaky wrists.
There's no explanation for why doing dishes sets off a warm burn in his ribcage, or why when he smells disinfectant he inhales like he's walking past a bakery.
Yer doin' this to me, he thinks furiously, as Sakusa derails his thoughts with kisses that come more and more frequently now. Yer conditionin' me, and I can't stop it.
flutterbird (a collection of sakuatsu oneshots), by wordstruck (5 works. T-E. canonverse)
Works 1-3, I think follow a linear story, whereas the last two don't.
All sakuatsu works are just the angstiest, most miscommunication filled pieces of absolute gold and this one is no exception. Wow. These men are assholes and they bring out the worst in each other, but I’ll be damned if they’re not soulmates.
Collection of SakuAtsu fics. Several fics are loosely set in the same storyverse. Not necessarily directly connected and can all be read as standalones.

r e q u e s t: Hi !! I love your writing ❤️ I want to know if it’s possible for you to write something with Quinn fabray x reader ? They are together in quarantine in New York with Rachel, Kurt and Santana. Also Reader and Santana are best friends. Can you add humor and fluff please ? Thanks ☺️
Quinn and Y/N were walking hand in hand through the streets of New York. They had planned a little getaway together to the big city. It was mainly Quinn’s idea, she wanted to propose to her high school sweetheart— Y/N. But most of their trip, and thus Quinn’s plan, fell apart due to the rapid spread of the Covid virus. Their tickets for Broadway had been refunded. The cute tearoom where Quinn had planned to propose to the girl— and where the two women had shared their first kiss during Glee club’s Nationals in New York— was closed down due to the virus. Most of the things Quinn had planned out for the proposal got refunded, except for the hotel. Quinn decided that she’d postpone her proposal to another time. She didn’t want to propose to Y/N like this. She deserved a proper proposal, like the one Quinn had planned out in her head for years. Quinn tried not to let it get her down but she found it hard to lie to Y/N about the frown on her face.
“I know it’s different.... but... I’m still glad we’re here.” Y/N brought their intertwined hands together and planted a kiss on Quinn’s knuckles. “New York always brings me back to high school.”
“Remember when we broke the bed during our pillow fight? And, oh God, how Tana fell off it when you smacked her across the face?” Y/N shook her head in amusement, “But the thing I will never forget is when we shared our first kiss in that adorable tearoom near the hotel.”
Quinn gave her a distant smile.
“And remember how panicked I was when Mr. Schuester walked by the window and I thought he had seen us out of the hotel room?”
Quinn hummed softly, rubbing her thumb across Y/N’s hand. She remembered every little detail about that morning, which made this all so much harder.
Y/N came to a halt and stood in front of Quinn, which caused the latter to bump into her.
“Oh, baby-”
“Why are you so quiet? I don’t like it.” Y/N seemed genuinely worried.
Quinn looked at the ground for a second and held her temple, trying to come up with a good enough lie.
“I-” She looked back up at her girlfriend and her expression immediately softened. Whenever Y/N was worried— particularly about Quinn — her eyebrows would furrow and she’d pout her lips ever so slightly.
Quinn sighed, “I’m just disappointed that we couldn’t visit it this time. I feel like a visit to New York is never complete without a high tea at our place.” Y/N smiled softly when Quinn grabbed her cheeks to comfort her.
“You know what else makes our trip complete?”
Y/N grinned like an idiot, immediately knowing what she was hinting at.
Quinn smiled,
“Let’s go pick up our stuff from the hotel first and then drive there.”
✫彡
“Wait, let me scare her.”
Quinn shook her head in amusement as her girlfriend plastered herself against the wall next to the front door of the apartment. Quinn knocked a few times before the door slid open.
“Oh my God! Quinn! It’s so good to see you!” Kurt’s voice rang through the hallway. He quickly hugged her before calling Santana.
“Quinn’s here!”
He turned back to the blond in front of him, “Are you alone?” Kurt was in disbelief, knowing very well that Quinn and her girlfriend were inseparable. Quinn quickly looked at Y/N through her peripheral and saw her nod her head.
“...I guess so-”
“Wait... you two are still together, right?” Concern filled Kurt’s voice, but before Quinn could reply, Santana appeared out of the bathroom.
“Ha! You bet they are.” She smirked at her friend, “Wait... where’s the fiancée?”
Quinn’s eyes widened and she immediately faked a long, awkward laughter. “Good one, San.”
Kurt looked between the two girls in confusion, and even Santana seemed lost.
He let out an awkward chuckle. “Am I missing something?”
Santana got the hint after Quinn shot her another look, “Oh- that’s just an inside joke of ours.”
“Y/N! Oh my God!” Someone squealed.
The three turned around and saw Rachel stand in the hallway, two large bags in her hand. She had seen Y/N hide behind the wall when she walked up to their frontdoor.
“Damn it, Berry.” Y/N groaned. “You ruined my surprise.”
Santana snorted, “Well, I knew you were somewhere. Quinn gets rashes when you’re not within a radius of 16 feet.” She opened her arms wide when Y/N revealed herself. “C’mere, I missed you.”
The two best friends shared a sweet hug while Rachel clumsily carried her bags inside.
“What’s up with that?” Kurt turned to her.
“Oh- well, now that our shows are postponed to God-knows-when... I thought I’d bring the stuff from my dressing room back home.”
“Why’d you bring this coffee machine home? We already have one.”
“Yeah, but I don’t like that one.”
“Rachel! We have no more countertop space... or available plugs!”
He gasped when he saw the brand, “These coffee pods are thirty dollars per package?!”
Santana rolled her eyes and walked Quinn and Y/N to the living room.
“So...while we let Bert and Ernie bicker... what’s up? No trouble in paradise?” She turned to the couple, hoping to cryptically find out why Quinn hadn’t proposed.
"I can’t believe you think we’d be able to part ways.” Y/N joked back and cuddled up against her girlfriend, who shook her head at Santana to let her know she’d tell her later.
“What do you girls want to drink? Or do you want some of Rachel’s exquisite coffee?” Kurt asked from the kitchen.
“Can I try a sip first?”
Quinn smiled at the childish antics of her girlfriend. Rachel gestured the girl to come over, which left the two ex-cheerios alone to talk.
Santana leaned in closer so that no one would hear,
“What happened?! Did you freak out at the last minute? Tell me you didn’t...”
Quinn sighed and rubbed her temples, “No, my whole proposal fell into pieces thanks to this freaking virus.”
“People are dying, Q.”
She sighed, “Gah, I know. It’s just- I’ve had this all planned out in my head for years. This was how it was supposed to go. And now everything is ruined.”
Santana gave her a sympathetic smile and squeezed her knee. “And there’s no alternative that you’d like?”
Quinn shrugged and shook her head softly.
“Well, if I may speak freely... we’re the only people who know Y/N in and out... which means that we also both know that she wouldn’t care if you went on one knee in a clown suit or if you wrote your big question in the sky with a plane...” Santana looked back to see if they were paying attention to their hushed conversation, but Y/N was sitting on the counter, her feed dangling while she took gentle sips of the expensive coffee. A small smile appeared on both girl’s faces.
“The only thing she cares for is that you are the one to ask her.”
Quinn’s eyes were filled with tears as she came to the realisation.
“Thanks, Santana.”
“Anytime.”
The two hugged until they heard Y/N run up to them.
“I want in!”
✫彡
A few hours had passed and all five of them were sprawled about the couch, their take-away food on the coffee table. Y/N’s head rested against Quinn’s chest while her legs were put on Santana’s lap. Quinn mindlessly played with the strands of Y/N’s hair.
It had become a tradition for them to watch ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ every time they visited their friends in New York.
“This scene breaks my heart every damn time.” Y/N mumbled and threw a napkin at the TV when Holly left the cat on the curb in the rain.
“She goes back for him later, though.” Kurt spoke.
“I don’t care. Damage is done.”
‘People do fall in love, people do belong to each other. Because that’s the only chance anybody has for real happiness.’ Paul, one of the characters spoke.
Quinn put her head against Y/N’s at hearing that. She was filled with so much joy at having this wonderful girl in her arms.
“I’ve been carrying this thing around for months,” Paul grabbed a wedding ring box out of his coat which caused Quinn’s mind to wander off. Even though she had seen this movie a dozen times, she was still surprised to be reminded of her ruined proposal.
Before she could make herself feel miserable about it again, Rachel’s phone rang. She quickly excused herself but motioned for them to not pause the movie.
Rachel walked to the living area after a few minutes, her expression tense and filled with worry.
“Guys...”
Kurt paused the movie as the girls turned to Rachel.
“We might have a tiny problem...Well... a big one, actually.”
Everyone got the memo that it was something serious and they sat up.
“One of the ensemble members has been tested positive for the virus... which means that everyone— crew and cast — needs to go into quarantine at home... and that includes everyone they have been in contact with... so that would mean that we have to stay inside for the next two weeks too...”
The bunch on the couch took a moment to take the news in until Santana shot up,
“I am not going to spend two weeks, non-stop, in here! I already go insane with too much of you as it is. I usually can deal with curtains as walls, your stubble in the sink or your god-awful annoying vocal exercises when I’m trying to sleep but that’s because I get home from work, eat and head straight to bed. But I will literally kill someone if I have to go through that all day long. I was supposed to see Brittany this weekend but hey, thanks a lot, Berry.”
“This is hardly Rachel’s fault. It’s the responsible and safe thing to do. You wouldn’t want Brittany to get it, right?”
Santana avoided eye-contact, but it was clear that she agreed with what Kurt said.
“Wow, I feel so unwanted right now.” Y/N mumbled out, slightly joking. “You get to spend your quarantine with us!”
Santana gave her a tight-lipped, apologetic smile, “I know, that’s the only good thing about this.”
Rachel saw the gloomy looks on everyone’s face. “They won’t tell us who it is for privacy reasons, but I usually don’t hang out with the ensemble anyway so I hope I’m safe. I’m so sorry, you guys.”
Kurt stood up with a sigh, “I guess I’ll go find the spare mattress then. You two can take my bed.” He was about to walk off but pointed a finger at Quinn and Y/N. “No sex... in my bed.”
Quinn pursed her lips, not that happy with Kurt’s rule.
“You were the leader of the celibacy club, you can last two weeks without sex. Besides, there are no walls so I will know when you break my rule.”
“Like that’s ever stopped you and Blaine before.” Santana rolled her eyes. “But great. We’ll have five, sexually frustrated people cooped up together in a tiny apartment with no walls for privacy, no natural light and no entertainment. Someone’s definitely going to get murdered... by me.” She added.
“My vote’s on Rachel...” Y/N mumbled out. Santana stuck out her hand behind her back for Y/N to high five.
“I’m just glad we decided to check out of our hotel this morning and bring our stuff to you guys... because no matter how much I love you all, I am not going to wear any of your spare panties.” Quinn stood up to go and help Kurt.
“You could just go commando.” Y/N shrugged, “I wouldn’t mind.”
Quinn sent her a teasing look and winked.
“I would say get a room but yeah, we don’t have any...so...” Rachel shrugged.
“I can’t believe we’re going to have to do this.” Santana sighed and walked off to her part of the apartment.
“Hey- but, look at it this way. We’ll have two weeks of non-stop karaoke, binge-watching and eating junk food. Doesn’t that sound great?” Rachel tried again but no one replied.
✫彡
One week done, one week to go.
For Quinn and Y/N, this week had consisted of a lot of cuddling and making out in bed, watching silly movies and cooking with whatever they could find in the pantry.
Santana had surprisingly been on her best behaviour, though they let her be whenever she had a ‘don’t-talk-to-me’ look on her face. Y/N suspected that Brittany had probably told her to be nice and to make the best out of it, but she also liked to think that it was because of her presence. She hadn’t been able to visit her best friend often now that they lived so far away. But it was like old times whenever they saw each other again. However, Quinn had caught herself feeling jealous that the two women had spent that much time together. But her jealousy washed away when she saw the best friends joke or laugh like they used to when they were still 16 year olds. It warmed her heart.
Kurt blended in perfectly and knew exactly when to give someone space or when to approach them. He and Quinn made sure there was food on the table and he had ordered a lot of, mostly useless, stuff online to try and keep everyone entertained. The twister game had been everyone’s favourite so far. And the effort he put into his bingo night was even too wholesome for Santana to make a comment about it, no matter how bad she wanted to after getting a rubber duck as present when she won.
Rachel did her best to help wherever she could and she was, surprisingly, a lot of fun to have around when things got boring. Though, yes, the daily vocal exercises got a bit out of hand when she woke them up belting high notes at 7.30. Santana was close to killing her had it not been for Quinn and Y/N holding her back. Santana wasn’t intimidating at all with her bed head, tangled up hair and red PJs and Y/N couldn’t help but laugh.
Quinn had been over the moon, so to say. She got to spend two whole weeks with the love of her life. Yes, they lived together but that was different. Now, there was no schedule or work to interrupt them or cloud their minds. It was just them, enjoying being in each other’s arms. For a lot of couples the lockdown and quarantine would probably be make or break, but Quinn hadn’t been worried about a negative outcome at all. When you’ve been together for that long, and been through hell and back, you know you will persevere together. The company of Kurt and Rachel was fun, and it was certainly good to have Santana around again but Quinn couldn’t help but wish it had just been Y/N and herself in quarantine. If that had been the case, she knew they wouldn’t just spend their days only cuddling in bed.
Y/N was the only one that was visibly annoyed and on edge. She would roll her eyes or sigh in annoyance if things went wrong or if someone said something she didn’t like. Quinn had caught her staring out of the window, to which Y/N explained that she hoped if she looked hard and long enough she might see the dragon that would save her. She wasn’t used to sit around and do nothing and was bored out of her mind.
Quinn and Y/N were lying in Kurt’s bed with their legs tangled together. Quinn held her girl close to her chest. She squeezed her and inhaled the scent of her freshly washed hair. The window was slightly open, causing a chill breeze to slightly move the curtains.
“Now I’m sure of it...” Y/N started, getting Quinn’s attention, “I’m never going to commit a felony.”
Quinn let out a breathy chuckle, “Were you questioning it before?”
“I can’t imagine being stuck like this for years.”
“Well, you still have access to the internet, great food, your friends...and your wonderful girlfriend.”
Y/N looked up at Quinn and grinned. She grabbed the girl’s cheek as she kissed her.
“Can’t believe I’m about to say this but I’m actually really thankful we got stuck in quarantine.”
Y/N subtly arched a questioning eyebrow.
“It made me realise two things— too much of Rachel Berry will be the end of me-” Y/N let out a breathy chuckle at that, “-and...”
Quinn stared into her girlfriend’s eyes, was she really going to do this now? Yes. Yes, she definitely was. This was the-
“Oh my God!” Kurt’s exciting squeal filled the apartment, startling both girls. They heard Santana shush him and it suddenly got very quiet. Too quiet...
Y/N tiptoed out of the bed in her PJ’s and fluffy socks and opened the curtain to see Santana and Kurt staring directly at her. She had clearly caught them with something, but with what? Quinn appeared behind Y/N and noticed the jacket that Santana was trying to hide behind their backs.
Kurt noticed she was doing a poor job at it and snatched the jacket out of Santana’s hands to hold it up to his face, admiring it like it was a newborn baby. “Oh my, it’s so pretty! Where did you buy this?”
Quinn quickly glanced at Y/N, who didn’t seem to notice what was happening. “Guys,” She groaned, “I thought something happened, you interrupted my peace.” She walked back, irritated, and closed the curtain in a swift motion.
“Why were you snooping in my stuff?!” Quinn hissed and plucked her jacket out of his hands.
“Um, excuse me? When where you going to tell me that you plan on proposing to her!?” Kurt whispered, enthusiasm clear in his voice.
Quinn didn’t reply and instead searched the pockets. “Where is it?”
“Here,” Santana gave her the jewellery box. “It fell out when Kurt was organising the coat rack.”
“Why haven’t you done it yet?”
“I had everything planned but the virus ruined it. It was suppose to happen the day we came here, but our favourite tearoom was shut down and so were all the other activities I had planned.” She sighed, “I was about to do it just now, in the heat of the moment, but then you two interrupted that. Whatever. I’m glad I didn’t. She deserved better than that.”
Santana crossed her arms, not happy with the fact that Quinn had apparently totally forgotten what the two of them had talked about a week prior.
“Damn, I wish you would’ve done it just now. That would mean the end of wicked witch Y/N.” Rachel joined their conversation. “Oh, so you can make fun of me but not the other way around? It was just a joke.” She added and raised her arms when she saw the looks Quinn and Santana were giving her.
“Okay, I know everyone’s feeling a bit irritated, but it’s just one more-”
The bell rang.
“Don’t tell me you bought us all matching boho outfits for your Mamma Mia night. I’m not wearing it.” Santana crossed her arms.
“I didn’t order anything?”
Y/N appeared again and opened the door.
“Thank you so much. Here, keep this.”
She closed it, walked over to the kitchen table and went to put everything down, completely ignoring the rest. She noticed the silence and turned around.
“Oh- Don’t worry, I ordered for everyone.”
Quinn eyed the table and recognised the familiar logo on the napkins.
“Baby-”
“I felt so bad that we couldn’t go to our place this time. So when I found out that they started doing deliveries this week, I knew I wanted to order their high tea menu. I got the one we usually get... to make you feel better...”
Quinn wrapped her arms around the girl’s waist from behind and put her chin on her shoulder. Y/N leaned into her touch.
“This is the sweetest thing ever. I love you.”
Y/N kissed Quinn’s forehead and sat down, immediately grabbing a brownie.
“You need to wife her up, fast.” Santana whispered into Quinn’s ear when she walked by.
And she would, when the moment was right.
✫彡
Kurt was watching a movie with Blaine through face time, Rachel was practicing some lines and Santana was face timing Brittany. Quinn and Y/N had promised to do the dishes, but Quinn ushered the girl to take a nap on the couch when she saw how tired her girl looked.
Quinn took quick glances towards the living room every few seconds and saw that Y/N had finally fallen asleep on the couch. With a faint smile on her face, she grabbed a blanket and tucked Y/N in. One of Rachel’s dvd’s, The Sound of Music, was still playing in the background. She slowly took the remote out of Y/N’s hands and turned it off.
“You’re the best and most precious thing in my life. I love you.” She bent down and caressed her cheek.
She widened her eyes when an idea suddenly struck her mind.
✫彡
“What do we sing?”
“No... no singing proposal. Y/N would hate that.”
“I loved it.” Kurt shrugged.
“So, then what’s the plan?”
“Listen up...”
✫彡
Their quarantine was over and no one had gotten sick. No one from Rachel’s crew or cast had gotten it either. Brittany and Blaine came over as soon as they could. They were over the moon to hear about Quinn wanting to propose and agreed to help.
“Love, what are you doing?”
Y/N sat on her suitcase, desperately trying to get it closed.
“I thought I had gained weight, not my clothes.” She grunted, “If we want to get home before the dark we should drive off by-”
“Actually... I had something planned before we go home.”
“Oh?”
“Is it okay if we leave as soon as you can? Bring a jacket, I don’t want you to get cold.”
Quinn left Y/N to get ready and anxiously walked into the kitchen where the rest were whispering words of encouragement to her. Quinn knew how much they had loved each other for the past years, but something inside her was still very insecure if Y/N would say yes to her question... to her. What would she do with herself if Y/N didn’t accept her ring?
“She’s going to love it.” Santana hugged her tight but quickly let go when Y/N opened the curtain.
“Why are you all looking at me?”
“Because you look lovely.” Quinn grabbed her hand. They all sent her thumbs up as she took one last glance over her shoulder.
✫彡
Y/N was eating a pretzel that Quinn had bought her in the park. The two were walking in a comfortable silence. Quinn glanced to the girl beside her, hoping that Y/N would catch on on what was happening soon.
They had walked almost the very same route that they walked on that morning in New York many, many years ago. Their end stop would be at the edge of the park, where Santana and Brittany were now probably busy setting their high tea up.
“Why are pretzels so much better in New York?”
“Eh, I don’t know. I’m not really a pretzel girl.”
The park was normally crowded with locals and tourists, but they had barely seen a handful of people so far.
“Wasn’t this where we sat with the kids from Glee?”
Quinn smiled softly.
Finally.
“Yeah, it is, actually.”
“Oh- Well, everything from that trip is very blurry in my mind, except for our first kiss, of course. I can even still tell you the colour of your coat.”
Quinn gave her a playful smile and grabbed Y/N’s hand. “Which was?”
“Red.” She booped her nose with the end of her pretzel, earning a giggle from Quinn.
She grinned softly, “Remember that snow globe I bought for you? With New York’s skyline?”
Y/N gasped, “I loved that thing.”
The two laughed, remembering that Y/N had dropped it when they rushed to cross the street only half an hour after buying it.
“Then you bought me a couple others throughout the years but none of them have ever been able to have the same value to me. Sorry not sorry.”
Quinn smiled to herself, hoping she was about to change that in a few minutes. She saw Santana and Brittany sitting on the grass in the distance and guided Y/N to the two. They left without saying a word, but not before giving the two enthusiastic but knowing smiles. Santana wiggled her eyebrows but Britt pulled her away.
“I am so confused right now.” Y/N hesitantly sat down on the blanket. “Why were they here?”
“I asked them to help me set up this little picnic so it could be a surprise. I know you ordered the high tea last week but I wanted to end our trip off like this, with just us. Also, we’ve spent the last two weeks in NYC without even a day outside. I didn’t want to leave before we went somewhere. I hope you like it.”
“Like it? I can never get enough of their cheesecake bites.”
Quinn smiled nervously, trying to hide how stressed she felt. She poured the juice in their glasses and fed Y/N a bite of a scone with butter and peach marmalade.
“How does that taste?”
Y/N threw her head back and groaned. “I’m going to miss their food.”
Quinn barely replied, too focused on how she was going to bring it up. Backing out now felt like a good way to calm her nerves but she knew she shouldn’t. Not only because Santana would kill her if she did, but also because there would never be a more perfect moment than now.
“Quinn?”
“Uh-Yeah, love?”
“What is this?” Y/N repeated.
Quinn’s eyes widened when she saw the wrapped up package Y/N had grabbed out of the basket.
“Oh- I... that...-” She sighed, “Screw it.” She went to sit on her knees and ushered Y/N to open it.
“For me?”
Quinn nodded, a big smile on her face.
“Quinnie... you-”
“Open it, my love.”
Y/N removed the wrapping paper and gasped when she saw what it was. It was a handmade snow globe, made in a mason jar. The New York skyline was glued to the bottom of it with a laminated picture of the two of them that they took during their first visit to New York. (Thank God Kurt was into a crafty phase during the second week of quarantine).
“I’m not the best at crafts but I just thought-”
“I love it.” Y/N beamed from ear to ear and her smile only widened when the snow inside of it fell onto the skyline.
“This is the most thoughtful gift someone has ever given me.”
“I’m glad you love it.” Quinn grabbed Y/N’s hand and softly moved it around so that the bottom of the snow globe was now facing up. Y/N furrowed her eyebrows until she realised what was scribbled down onto a piece of paper at the bottom. Quinn put the snow globe down and grabbed both of Y/N’s hands in her own, brushing her thumbs against the girl’s knuckles.
“I must admit that I thought what I’m about to say a million times over for the past days and I imagined what I would say to you in this moment for years—but truth be told, I kind of forgot all of that because of the nerves,” Quinn let out a chuckle, “To be honest, I have always known that you were the only girl I wanted to be with in this life. I don’t know what it was, but we’ve just had this instant gravitation towards each other. I know I wasn’t always the kindest to you in the beginning yet you still helped me through everything. The pregnancy, the accident... Now I can say all this cheesy shit about how you and I bring the best out of each other and how much love we have for one another but I think I don’t need to say that. We both know how much our relationship means to us. New York has always been a special place to me since it reminds me of why and how we fell in love. Which is why I wanted to do this here. This is were it all began. Now, I had everything planned months ago but... the situation changed and well... yeah. I had to adjust. At first, I wanted to postpone it all. Until I realised that I couldn’t wait any longer. Y/N, you are my everything. I want to be by your side until eternity. I want to be your person for as long as I can. I want to love and care for you for as long as you want me to.”
She let out a shaky breath.
“So I guess...what I’m trying to say here is...” She grabbed the box out of her pocket, opened it and presented it to Y/N. “Would you like to marry me?”
Y/N looked at the box in shock, she hadn’t made eye contact with Quinn ever since she had presented her with the ring in her hand.
The silence lasted only for a few seconds but it felt like minutes to Quinn, who slowly lowered her hands.
Y/N suddenly let out a sob, then another. She jumped onto Quinn and wrapped her arms around her neck.
“Yes.” She said through her sobs. Quinn let out a gasp of relief and squeezed the girl in her arms, letting her own tears fall freely now.
“Oh-” Y/N groaned and let go of her embrace. “I stepped into the scones...” She pouted and looked at her marmalade stained knee. Quinn laughed through her tears, realising this was exactly why she had asked this girl to marry her.
Y/N forgot it immediately the moment she locked eyes with her fiancée. She held her tight and kissed her like she never had before.
They let go like two love-sick puppies when they heard all of their friends approach. The newly engaged couple was radiating.
“I love you, so much.”

Maandag 14:11
Broerrrs + Luc
20 July, 14:11
Robbe: What are you guys doing on Wednesday?
Jens: Uh, I’m working that night. But not until like 19:00.
Lucas: I’m working that morning.
Jens: Really?
Lucas: Yeah.
Aaron: I don’t have to work.
Moyo: Me either.
Jens: Lucky you.
Lucas: Why?
Robbe: Because Sander wants to meet you guys. And he gets off at 16:00 on Wednesday.
Jens: Wait really?
Robbe: Yeah. Do you have a problem with it?
Jens: What? No, of course not. I guess I just didn’t expect it to be so soon. Especially after everything that happened.
Robbe: I know, but I want him to meet you guys. Officially. As my boyfriend.
Aaron: Awww, Robbe has a boyfriend.
Robbe: I’ve said he’s my boyfriend multiple times.
Lucas: Yeah, he literally won’t shut up about it.
Robbe: I’m sorry. How many times do you talk about Jens?
Lucas: :)
Aaron: I know, but it’s still new and I’m allowed to be excited.
Moyo: That’s true. We’re excited. And Wednesday sounds good to me. Noor and I are going out tonight.
Jens: Have fun! Wednesday sounds good to me too. Am I going to like him still after everything?
Lucas: Yes.
Jens: Oh really?
Lucas: One look at how he makes Robbe happy and you’ll like him again.
Robbe: I didn’t realize you stopped.
Lucas: He didn’t. He just says that he does. He’s gotta be all macho and protective.
Jens: You like me when I’m macho and protective.
Aaron: VDS at it again.
Moyo: You’re still in the group chat?
Jens: And? I can flirt with my boyfriend when I want to. Even in the group chat.
Robbe: I’m screenshotting that.
Aaron: What for?
Robbe: For when we eventually add Sander to this chat. And Jens tells me not to flirt with my boyfriend. I have proof that I can flirt in the group chat.
Jens: Are we adding Sander to the group chat? We haven’t even met him officially yet. And we never added Thomas to it.
Robbe: I know, but I have a feeling about this one. Plus, I know you guys already like him anyways. Especially Aaron.
Aaron: That’s true.
Jens: In love Robbe is my favorite Robbe.
Moyo: Yeah.
Lucas: Agreed.
Robbe: Thanks guys.
…
Dinsdag 19:25
It had been on Robbe’s mind for awhile—days, weeks even. It was time for something different.
At least for Tuesday.
Tonight, Sander was going over to Britt’s parents’ house. It had been an unexpected and last-minute invite from her parents and Sander was asked to come. Britt had messaged Robbe about it, asking if it was okay, and Robbe had said that it was. It still felt a little weird—as weird as his boyfriend pretending to be dating his ex-girlfriend could be—but that wasn’t why Robbe was upset. But, Robbe didn’t even know if ‘upset’ was the word he should be using… Disappointed? Maybe.
It wasn't about Sander going over to Britt’s. It was Sander going over to Britt’s tonight.
Changing up his streams had been on Robbe’s mind for a few weeks and yesterday afternoon, after playing numerous matches that were just like all the others, he finally decided that he wanted to do it. At least for one day. When Britt had asked—followed shortly by Sander’s call—he thought of pushing the change off until later but, at the same time, Robbe didn’t want to.
Since that Friday night, Robbe had been itching to play Pokémon Sword and Shield, the newest generation in the franchise. With their buzzed and love-drunk minds, they hadn’t really gotten very far into the game. Every once in a while, they would pause to kiss and it would end up a little more handsy than originally planned. Once they managed to pull themselves away, they would barely make any progress before they would tumble back against the bed, kissing each other.
So Robbe went out and bought a Nintendo Switch after his Monday night stream. Because Sander had a copy of Pokémon Shield—he remembered the opening title scene quite vividly—Robbe chose the opposite version before looking through to see what other games were compatible with the console. Once he got his new purchase home, he spent the majority of the evening setting it up with the help of YouTube videos. Zoë had brought him a plateful of spaghetti as he was knee-deep in cords.
Once he woke up on Tuesday morning, Robbe put the finishing touches to make sure that everything would run smoothly—or as smoothly as it could without going live. Even though Robbe had informed them that he was going to do something different, his nerves were still running high, bouncing in his chest. For years, Fortnite had been the only thing that Robbe streamed. So the bulk of his audience would expect Fortnite from him.
Before he started the stream, his phone vibrated loudly against the desk, pulling his gaze from the computer in front of him.
Sander: Have a good stream, baby. I’m hoping to catch the end. If not, I’ll watch it before bed.
A flood of warmth shot through Robbe and soothed all of the erratic nerves in his chest. Unconsciously adjusting his headphones, Robbe typed out a quick message.
Robbe: Have a good dinner. Text me when you get home.
Sander: I will <3
Once Robbe placed his phone to the side, glancing at Sander’s framed sketch, he started the stream. Even though he was still nervous, it was all for nothing. To his surprise, a majority of his regular audience were excited to see him play through Sword for the first time. On the other hand, there were still a handful of people who weren’t excited. Before they left the chat, they made passive aggressive comments about going to watch a Fortnite streamer, and the comments stung a little. Thankfully, the majority of his audience encouraged him and he started the game with little fuss.
On that Friday evening with Sander, they had chosen the water-type starter, Sobble. While Robbe thought that the anxious salamander (or chameleon?) was adorable, he ended up choosing the Scorbunny this time around, which he named Flint. The white bunny with a bandage on his nose had interested him. Plus, if he and Sander were going to continue with Sobble, he wanted to do something different with this one. Once he hit the first route of the game, Robbe caught a Rookidee, which he named Alloy. It was a small bird that looked angry but would eventually evolve into a Corviknight.
When Robbe finally reached the Wild Area, the vast area between cities—and, he learned, Pokémon’s first step into an open world—Robbe paused to consider getting the online services to connect with his viewers who had Pokémon. After a few minutes, he decided to wait until later in the game before he got the online services. Plus, he wanted to look into the other games on the Switch so he could do what they were temporarily dubbing “Nintendo Tuesday.”
As Robbe prepared to enter the Opening Ceremonies for the first time, his phone vibrated against the desk, drawing his attention. Rebel, Rebel played again as Sander’s text message popped up on the screen.
Sander: Baby, buzz me in.
Pulling down his headphones, he barely could make out the buzzer in the hallway. It was still going—which meant that no one else was home. “Umm,” Robbe said, placing his controller on the desk. His character was mid-conversation with a stadium worker and his chat was moving very quickly. “Sorry, I’m going to take my five-minute break now.”
Muting his microphone and placing his headphones on the desk, Robbe shot out of his bedroom door and hit the buzzer on the front door. It only took nearly a full minute for Sander to arrive at the front door, knocking lightly, and Robbe opened it impatiently to find him there on his doormat. Sander was dressed in a long-sleeve black button-up with a pair of skinny jeans. His cheeks were flushed, likely from the heat.
As soon as the door opened, Sander stepped into the apartment and kissed him hurriedly. His skin was hot to the touch—and a little sweaty–but Robbe didn’t mind, bringing him closer against him. Sander wrapped his arms around Robbe’s waist before pulling back. “Hi, baby.”
“Hey,” Robbe said, beaming.
“I’m sorry for interrupting your stream,” he said. “I just really wanted to see you.”
“Is everything okay?” Robbe asked.
“Yeah,” Sander said, squeezing his waist. “Everything is fine. While we were at dinner, her parents asked us if we were really dating because we never kissed in front of them. When her father tried to force us to kiss to prove that we weren’t faking it, Britt exploded. She got into a fight with her dad and I could only watch with her mom as they fought. In the end, she came out to her parents.”
Robbe felt his eyes grow wide, pulling back. “What?”
Sander nodded. “Yeah, I didn’t tell you before because she wasn’t ready yet. But when I took her to my apartment and was going to come over here, she let me know that I could tell you. She’s been in a relationship with her girlfriend for six months. Her parents were always a little overbearing and controlling in her life and tonight was the last straw. She packed a bag and she’s staying in Noor’s bedroom until she figures out what to do.”
“Wow,” Robbe said. “I’m so sorry.”
Sander shrugged with a sad look on his face. “It’s been a long time coming. Since she’s found out, she’s been a ticking time bomb with her parents. They always talked about her being with a good guy—even when she was with me, both real and fake—and she internalized all of it. Every time, she got a little closer until it was too much.”
Robbe nodded. He understood that feeling. In high school, he exploded at the Broerrrs. He had been going through so much—his mother in the hospital and his repressed feelings that he refused to acknowledge to even himself—until one day it was too much. Thankfully, he had Milan and Zoë to help him. The Broerrrs forgave his explosion and changed when they realized how much Robbe was hurt by their words. Avoiding Sander’s gaze, he mumbled, “I know what it’s like… to explode.”
Sander nodded, pressing a kiss to Robbe’s forehead. For a second, they simply rocked in the silence of the foyer. Soon, Sander ducked his head down to press a kiss against Robbe’s lips and he arched against Sander’s chest. Robbe stood on his toes, wrapping his arms around Sander’s neck, and kissed him back. Sander wrapped his arms tighter around Robbe, bringing him flush against his chest, as he dug his fingers into his hair.
Pulling back, Sander kissed his nose. “You better get back to your stream. I just really wanted to see you.”
“They can wait a little more,” Robbe said.
“Yeah, but you don’t want to keep them waiting forever,” Sander said grinning. Placing one more kiss on his lips, he moved back to the front door. As Sander reached to open the door and step outside, Robbe tugged him back against him and Sander looked at him confused. “What is it?”
“You don’t have to leave,” Robbe said. Sander stared down at him with half-lidded eyes and Robbe swallowed his nerves. “You can stay here and come on the stream with me—or hang out in my room if you feel more comfortable with that.” A small smile grew on Sander’s face. “Besides, I need your expertise about my stream and I’d love to have you with me.”
“Didn’t you say last week that I would be distracting?”
“Maybe,” Robbe said, tilting his head back. Sander stared at him with a sly smile on his face. “Maybe I also changed my mind about you being distracting. But you have to promise to be on your best behavior.”
“Okay,” Sander said, gripping his hips tightly. “I’d love to join. But I don’t know how much help I’m going to be with Fortnite and online matches. All I know is what you’ve told me or I’ve heard on your streams.”
Robbe smiled, pressing a kiss to his lips before moving to the kitchen. “I’ll be back soon. I still need to grab a glass of water or I’m not going to be able to make it the rest of the stream without another break.”
When Robbe returned to his bedroom, Sander had kicked off his shoes and unbuttoned his shirt, exposing the black shirt he had beneath it. His bag had been discarded at the foot of the bed. There was an emotional look on his face as he turned to Robbe who stepped into the doorway.
“You’re playing Pokémon?” Robbe nodded, relishing when Sander closed the distance and pressed another kiss to his lips. Even with a full glass of water in his hands, Robbe wasted no time in wrapping his free arm around his shoulders and kissing him back. When they separated, Sander grinned. “Lucky for you, Mr. IJzermans, I’m quite the Pokémon expert.”
Robbe smiled, stealing another fleeting kiss. “Lucky me.”

Born to Run - Chapter 15
Warnings: language, literally zero editing
Word count: 3k
A/N: Wow I’m back to updating this story??? A million years later?? I am so sorry to anyone who was following this - but if you’re still reading and still interested, here’s an update! God as my witness, I will finish this. I actually have more ideas and inspiration for where the story’s going now - plus we’re all getting quarantined, so these WIPs have never had a better chance of getting done. Anyways, here it goes! Please let me know what you think!
The lone monitor beeped steadily, plaintively, in the early morning quiet of the hospital room. Air rattled through the breathing machine, filling unknowing lungs over and over. A starched white blanket was pulled up to his chest, covering most of the bandages wrapped around his torso from the hours of emergency surgery. His left arm was already in a cast and laid on top of the blanket, resting against his stomach.
Natasha felt sick.
And angry.
How could she have been so stupid? Acting like a goddamn rookie, for starters, and running to Nick to fix their situation - letting things get out of hand with the Avengers, failing to convince Y/N to get out of here before things got bad. And they were only going to get worse.
If Nick had been identified, then they were all in danger. And there was no fucking way, to her mind, that he couldn’t have been I.D.’d. This wasn’t a random accident, regardless of whatever the hell the local police wanted to write on the incident report. It was an attack, a warning. First blood.
Her knee bounced in her seat by the bed, plastic upholstery squeaking with every shift in her weight. She chewed her nails - a habit she thought she had finally managed to kick. A tall nurse, dark curls piled into a bun on top of her head, came in to check Nick’s vitals; she was quiet, efficient, offering Nat a sympathetic smile.
“If you need anything, just contact the nurse’s station, ok?” Her pink bubblegum, tucked in the back corner of her mouth, was visible when she talked. “And there’s a coffee machine around the corner, in case you need your fix before the cafeteria opens up.”
Nat nodded her thanks as the woman slipped out of the room, her white nursing clogs creaking a little, not yet broken in.
The sky outside the window continued to brighten, a clear and cold winter morning; she wasn’t sure how long she stared at him before she decided to have that coffee after all. Massaging her temples, she shuffled down the hallway towards the flickering glow of the machine. Her boots echoed on the tiles in the empty hall, the low hum of the coffee machine filling the little alcove near the elevators. It whirred and hissed and spat out her coffee into a blue paper cup with slow, deliberate drips.
How had she let it get this far? What was she going to do without him? And who the hell could she trust? She winced as the first sip of coffee burned her tongue. It wasn’t as though she didn’t trust the team…but she’d gone to Nick in the first place because they were no longer being objective - Barnes especially, and Rogers was only enabling him.
Her eyes on the waxed linoleum floor, she barely noticed him standing outside the door of the hospital room. Steve squared his shoulders, directly in front of her, his eyebrows tilted at a thunderous angle.
“You gonna tell me what the hell is going on here?” he gritted out, the hoarse edge of his voice scraping in his throat.
Nat didn’t answer, not right away. Instead, she let him stew in the boil of his righteous anger, air tightening between them. The coffee had cooled a bit, but left a funny taste in her mouth - the flavor mixed badly with the mints she’d been sucking on an hour ago. The muscles in her neck and back ached from hunching by Nick’s bed all night, and she arched a little on her feet, stretching and flexing, though the early morning tightness never quiet left her muscles.
Finally, when the flare of Steve’s nostrils told her he was on the verge of making a scene, she gestured toward the door with her coffee cup.
“Why don’t you head in there and see for yourself?”
Clenching his jaw, Steve turned and let himself into the hushed dimness of the hospital room. He filled the doorway - he filled most doorways - and from behind Natasha wished he could march into this and save the day, the way he always wanted to. At the foot of the bed, he stopped and rested a hand on the mobile tray waiting there, now cleared of the uneaten food from last night. His mouth turned further down, matching the turn of his eyes as he watched the sleeping man tucked into crisp hospital linens. After all these years, I was so strange to see Nick this way - weak, still, not in command. It shook something loose inside of him, but he tamped it down, cracking the knuckles of his fist.
“You know who did this?” he said, his voice a low growl under the tone of the monitors. Behind him, Nat closed the door with a soft click.
“Of course I do - don’t you?” She slipped behind him, sipping from her coffee, and took up her chair by the bed again.
Big hands curling and uncurling, Steve remained silent. From her spot in the squeaky hospital chair, Nat watched the slant of his profile, reading the rage in every line.
“Rumlow is dead,” Steve said through clenched teeth.
“But not the rest of them.”
“Without a leader? They’re just a bunch of thugs.” Steve shook his head. “There’s someone else pulling the strings - someone smarter.” He nodded towards Nick’s prone body. “Someone who knew about Nick. Maybe about all of us.”
Natasha nodded slowly, one finger tracing the rim of her coffee cup. Usually she enjoyed being right.
Steve scrubbed at his face with his hands, blowing a harsh breath past his lips. He turned away from the hospital bed and paced along the edge of the room, towards the window. With the thin curtain drawn, pale sunlight cast shadows beneath his eyes, sharped the noble angle of his nose. HE never dreamed they’d be standing here, years deep in a life built on lies and duty. Fresh from the army, him and Buck, and no plans - that’s when Sam approached them. Intelligence work, a chance to do something important, to keep fighting the good fight on the home front.
“They’re all in danger.” Natasha’s voice scraped at the edges of her throat. “You know that, Steve.”
“I know.”
“It’s time.” He turned to look at her, bits of hair falling from her ponytail to frame her face. Bits of mascara had smudged underneath her eyes, bloodshot and heavy.
“Make the call,” Steve said, looking back towards the window. “Get Pierce if you have to. It’ll piss off Stark to go over his head, but I’m not worried about his ego.”
Nat licked her lower lip, tracing the chapped skin.
“What about Barnes and his girlfriend?” she asked, leaning an elbow on the arm of her chair. “I can’t see him being eager to burst their happy little bubble.”
Steve sighed through his nose, crossing his huge arms across his chest. The monitors beeped a lonely rhythm behind him.
“I”ll handle Bucky. Just get everything ready - make all the arrangements. Do what you have to do.”
***********
“So for dinner, I’m thinking…we still have that spaghetti squash in the fridge? I could whip up some kind of sauce to go with it…” she peaked her head up over the door of the fridge. “Sound good to you, Buck?”
Startled, Bucky’s head popped up from his phone.
“Uh, yeah sure,” he said, ducking back down and resuming the rapid movement of his thumb.
With a frown, Y/N hip-checked the door closed, bottles rattling inside.
“Are you listening to me, Bucky Barnes?” she asked, eyes narrowing as she leaned back against the fridge.
He looked up again - a well-developed sense of self-preservation kicked in when he caught that dangerous glint in her eyes.
“Yes - yes, sweetheart, I’m sorry,” he sighed, sliding his phone into his back pocket. “Whatever you want for dinner is good - I’m fine with the spaghetti squash.”
She was never so easily distracted.
“What was so interesting?” she nodded his direction. “You’ve been glued to that thing all afternoon.”
Bucky’s shoulders dropped as he sighed, rounding the edge of the counters to approach her in the kitchen. Soft hands reached for her hips, reeling her in closer, sharing heat and heartbeats. The scent of his cologne drifted up on the air between them - spicy, warm, just subtle enough to remain sexy. He leaned in close and pressed his lisp to her forehead, devoted and sweet, and always properly apologetic.
“I”m sorry, baby,” he said, squeezing her waist softly. “It’s just Steve-”
“Steve?” She looked up at him with a frown, neat little line forming between her brows. “Steve has been blowing up your phone?”
“Yeah, I know.” He shook his head. “It sounds like total bullshit, but I swear that’s all.”
“What’s going on with Steve?”
Bucky sucked in a deep slow breath, hoping to hide his hesitation. Their “club business” had always taken first place, first priority…the job came first. The job was important. They were saving lives, putting away criminals. But now his girl was pouting at him in the kitchen, and he’s so tired, so goddamn tired all of a sudden - of all of it. Of being a public servant or a hero or whatever the hell. Of duty. He wants to pack it all up and just start driving. Move back to the city - or hell, even the suburbs would be nice. He’d take Y/N to Sunday dinner at his mom’s place; they’d move in together, and Y/N could decorate just how she wanted, and he’d sweat over rearranging the furniture and complain about trips to fuckin’ Ikea and all the other stuff that normal boyfriends got to do. In this moment, this inhale, he tasted it all, the life they could have. A dream they could build, together.
And all he had to do was come clean. About all of it.
In the space of an exhale, he faced it. He wanted this. It was on the tip of his tongue.
And then the next breath.
“Just club stuff,” he shrugged, feeling the weight of the lie dropping on her. “There’s…been a little drama between the members lately. Nothin’ for you to worry about.”
With another kiss to her forehead, he turned away and opened the fridge.
“I’ll put that spaghetti squash in this afternoon if you want me to,” he offered. “That way it’ll be ready when you get off work. Sound good?”
Y/N nodded mutely, pressing her lips into a smile. She had to admit it was nice having a boyfriend who was mildly competent in the kitchen.
“Okay, well, I’ve got to get in to the clinic,” she sighed, checking her watch. “Shit! I’ll be late.” Swinging her bag and lab coat over her shoulder, she gave him a final peck on the lips before bolting to the door.
“You sure you don’t want me to drive you?” Bucky called from the kitchen.
“Too cold!” was her reply - and then she was out the door.
Bucky stared at the closed door for a moment, one hip leaned against the counter, worrying at his lower lip with his teeth. He just needed some time. Just a little more time to sort all this out. And then he’d tell her - the whole truth. Everything. And after, they could have a life together, something real, something safe, a home.
His phone buzzed in his pocket. Steve again.
Call me. Now.
Even as he rolled his eyes at Steve’s flare for the dramatic, a little tremor seized Bucky’s heart. Dread hovered in the back of his mind as he swiped his thumb and dialed Steve’s number.
This could only go badly.
**********
One breath.
Inhale to exhale. That was how long it took for him to lie to her.
Cold fingers wrapped tight around the steering wheel, it was all she could think about. It scared the hell out of her, whatever it was he tried to hide in that breath, whatever he decided to keep from her. He’d never done that before…or had he? Did she know? Would she know? Would she be able to tell?
Calm down, Y/N. You’re overreacting. She lectured herself, cranking the heat in her car to a higher setting. A top 40 song, thumping beat and repeated lyrics, hummed faintly on the radio; she was running late enough that the morning talk show had already ended, moving on to the daily shuffle of hits and local business commercials. It all went unheard in the worried circle of her thoughts.
What could he have to hide? Unbidden, her mind flooded with horrible possibilities, every possible answer to that question, and each more horrible than the last. Was he cheating? Another woman was responsible for the constant barrage of text messages pinging his phone? Bucky was handsome, not to mention clever, flirtatious, romantic; she had no doubt he could get any woman he wanted. But his attention and affection for her hadn’t waned - just this weekend he’d planned a beautiful dinner for the two of them, followed by a homemade cheesecake he had slaved over for dessert, and then well…he was certainly still eager in the bedroom. The warning signs just weren’t there.
So what else? He’d never been secretive about the club before. Avengers business was Avengers business, but he’d never lied to her about it. It turned her stomach sour, and she regretted having those pancakes this morning, the cloying smell of syrup still on her hands making her want to pull over and vomit on the side of the road.
She knew she was working herself up, letting her mind run amuck, but she couldn’t stop herself. By the time she pulled her car into the parking lot of the clinic, she’d half made up her mind to turn right around, go home, and confront him. The image of herself, half-crazy with ideas of secret affairs or violence or drugs, marching into the house and accusing him of lying - it stopped her short.
God, why am I losing my shit over this? Y/N dropped her head back against the seat and closed her eyes, the car idling in the lot, warm and safe from the harsh winter morning. She’d dealt with shitty men before, she’d survived bad boyfriends. It was impossible to make it very long as a woman without that experience. And yet, somehow, the memory of that paled in comparison to the devastating knowledge that Bucky was lying to her.
You love him. Oh god, she did, she loved him - she was in love with him.
She hurried out of the car and into the clinic, preferring to bury herself in wellness checks and vaccines and the flu than to keep thinking on it.
**********
At the reception desk, Charlotte stopped her before she could get to her office.
“Oh! You’re needed at the county hospital today.” She handed Y/N the note, written on robin’s egg blue stationary.
“I’m sorry? Why?” Y/N squinted at the note, a handwritten scribble. Charlotte shrugged.
“No real explanation - but the chief surgeon said that they could use an extra set of hands with all the flu cases they’ve got coming in.” She took a sip from her travel mug. “I’ve heard they’re a little overwhelmed down there, since they’re the closest treatment for a lot of people in the county.”
Y/N sighed, looking back out to her car. She hadn’t planned to drive the extra mileage out to the hospital today; not to mention it would probably make her late coming back for dinner tonight. Digging in her purse, she grabbed her phone and shot off a quick text to Bucky, explaining the change.
“Alright then,” she huffed, placing her purse back on her shoulder. “I guess I’ll see you later.”
With a wave to Charlotte and the other nurses, she was back out the door and heading to her car. This time around, she turned the radio up loud, singing along and tapping her fingers on the steering wheel and not thinking about this morning, or her own life, or anything at all.
**********
At the hospital, she was assigned to make rounds for one of their physicians who had called in sick. Simple enough. The elevator ride up was quiet, new nurses and doctors all quiet and polite, but holding down their conversations in the presence of a stranger.
She started on the third floor recovery ward, making her way down the hall door by door. Bedside manner was always one of her strengths; she could charm most patients with just a few words, breezing through her examinations and questions with ease. Chalk it up to customer service experience, but even the difficult patients usually treated her with gruff politeness, the insistence of her friendly manners forcing them to match with their own. Room by room, she checked charts and asked about pain levels and wrote prescriptions, the morning passing by in hours of sterile white tile and the smell of hand sanitizer.
Turning a corner onto the next ward, she was just looking up from her clipboard when she caught a glimpse of a familiar shade of red ducking into a doorway. Y/N hurried her steps, her cadence almost a jog as she tried to catch-
“Natasha?” She knew that hair, the back of her jacket, the set of her shoulders.
Nat was standing in the door of the hospital room, propping it open with one arm, head turned over her shoulder to stare at Y/N with weary eyes. Her face was pale, scrubbed clean of makeup, the bright baby hairs around her face twisting in tight little curls. At the sight of Y/N, she quirked the corner of her mouth up in an attempt at a smile, but it only managed to make her look more strained and exhausted.
“What are you doing here?” Y/N went on when she didn’t get an answer. Her eyes cut past Natasha to the dim fluorescence of the room behind her. “Is everything okay?”
Nat stared for another moment, her lips pressed tight together, jaw working back and forth. The hand she held on the door was curled in a small, tight fist, the peaks of her pale knuckles standing out against the long sleeve of her hoodie. Then, still silent, she stepped aside, gesturing for her friend to enter.
“Come in,” she said hoarsely. “We need to talk.”

[ DECEMBER 23RD, 2019 ]
By the time you made it to Victoria, you were exhausted. Your flight had been delayed twice and almost canceled due to the weather, but luckily you made it home before you could end up on Jamie and Katie's flight. By the time you had landed, your mom had texted you mid-flight saying that Jordie would be picking you up and gave you no reason as to why. The moment you read her text, you realized it was too late to turn back and go hop on to another plane– so it looked like facing Jordie was your only option. It's not like you knew if he was as angry at you as Jamie was. You were the one ignoring his text messages, not the other way around. When you found him just outside of security, you felt like you were going to be sick, and every step you took towards him was spent preparing yourself for the speech he was probably going to give you.
The one thing that you didn't expect though, was for him to wrap you up in a tight hug without even saying a word. You stood there, stiff in his arms for only a moment before wrapping your arms around him and returning his hug. There was a significant age gap between you and all three siblings, all three of them were out of the house by the time you were 10-years-old. But if there was one sibling you were close to growing up, it was Jordie. Sure, you and Jamie were close too, especially with the two of you being in Dallas most months out the year. And sure, Jenn was always the best big sister to you, giving you advice on things you could never go to your parents to. But Jordie, he was the ultimate sibling. He was always on your side, no matter what choices you made but was also never afraid to call you out on your bullshit– and of course, always helped you find a way to fix it. So his hug, his hug made you feel the most relaxed you had felt since everything well to hell.
That car ride home was when he asked you how everything had been, especially since you've been dodging his calls. And while you didn't want to just throw Jamie or Tyler under the bus, the words and feelings just poured out of you. You filled in the holes and gaps that Jamie hadn't told him from beginning to end. And while he did let you know that he thought you and Tyler could have found a different way to deal with things, you could also see that he was pissed at Jamie for treating you the way that he had. Your family had one rule that all of you abided by:
you always loved and supported each other, no matter what.
When you got home, Kennedy was there to greet you along with your parents and Jordie's fiancé Jessi, and you guys all hung out together until about midnight when you and Kennedy went to bed since you were going to be showing her around Victoria tomorrow morning and afternoon. Of course, the two of you stayed up a little later as she caught you up on how her few days with her parents were and what they had gotten her for Christmas. While you filled her in on what it was like to be Big Rig's roommate, your guys' future spring break plans with Paisley and of course, your big blow up on Tyler in the hallway. You felt proud when you told her how you got everything off of your chest that you needed to and even more proud when you saw the look on her face. The one thing you weren't expecting from her though, is her suggestion that maybe you do hear him out at some point in time when the two of you were back in Dallas again.
And as the two of you fell asleep, you didn't want to admit that you had been thinking the same thing from the moment you left that hallway.
❒❒❒❒
Jamie and Katie had gotten in a few hours after everyone went to bed. As far as you knew, they were greeted by the lone kitchen light your mom always left on if someone was expecting to come home late. They were still sleeping when everyone met downstairs for breakfast and by the time that they had a chance to wake up and come downstairs, you dragged Kennedy out of the house and gave her a tour of your hometown.
You managed to avoid Jamie up until dinner time when you had no choice but to come home. You greeted Katie like you hadn't just seen her yesterday and Jamie was too wrapped up in a conversation with your mom to even warrant a greeting. Dinner was probably as awkward as it could get. Sure, the conversation flowed easily from topic to topic: the hockey season, how life in LA was going, how Jessi's parents were doing, what our predictions were when Jenn and Andrew would welcome a new baby into the world, whether or not Kennedy and I were prepared for the real world after college– it was all so easy.
Except, as expected, there were those small pockets of awkward tension whenever a small silence fell over the table or something having to do with Dallas ever popped up into question. Leave it to your dad of all people to be the one to bring up the Winter Classic and of course, Tyler in a not so obvious way. He had said he'd been talking to Paul that he had asked if both families were going to get together for a dinner after the game. You could see the vein in Jamie's forehead beginning to bulge and you shot your mom and Jordie a desperate look. When she gave you a shoulder shrug back, it was then that you looked at your father and realized he knew damn well what he had done.
No one gave him an answer, so he answered it himself and said that they were already making reservations and the rest of dinner went by uneventfully. Your mom had made her holiday chocolate mousse pie and your group sat around in the living room in front of the tv and watched, like tradition, some Hallmark movies. But as the time got later, everyone started to go off to bed. You agreed to go up but laid there, staring at your ceiling as Kennedy was fast asleep next to you. You tried everything to make yourself fall asleep, but it just wasn't happening.
You sighed and quietly snuck out of bed, putting on your slippers before opening your bedroom door and walking out into the hallway. You walked down the stairs and into the kitchen, turning on the kitchen light and grabbing yourself a clean glass that was in the drying rack. There was a drink that your dad had made you and your siblings whenever you guys were sick. And sure, you weren't sick right now, but the warm drink and the hint of alcohol would be enough to make you feel a little more sleepy than you were at this very moment. You grabbed the makers mark whiskey from beneath the kitchen island and the rest of your ingredients from around the kitchen. You remembered the first time you had to drink it. Both you and Jamie had managed to catch a winter cold and your dad made you share the same cup. Jamie's twisted face of disgust was one that still made you laugh to this day whenever you thought back on the memory. And as you finished making the drink, you smiled only for a second before remembering where your relationship with Jamie stood today.
You walked into the living room and grabbed a canucks sweatshirt that Jordie had left hanging on the back of the couch and put it on before walking back into the kitchen, grabbing your drink and then making your way out onto the back porch. You turned the light on from inside before unlocking and sliding open the door, closing it behind you. The snow blanketed your backyard and as you looked out at the untouched scene, you played home movies in your mind. Over there in the far left corner, was where your parents had managed to keep alive an old playground set that Jamie and Jordie spent years fighting on. The ancient oak tree nestled in the right corner of your fenced-in backyard was where you broke your arm for the first time. You were eight and Jamie had held you on top of his shoulders so you could reach the hole that he had hidden his report card in from your parents. He lost his footing and the two of you fell backward, your arm taking most of the impact.
The fire pit buried beneath the snow where you had your first 'official' date at fourteen the summer after Jamie's second season with the stars. You parents were out of town, Jenn was on a vacation with Andrew, so it was left to Jordie and Jamie to look after you. Your mom had already told them that they had no authority when it came to canceling your date– but in fact, they were in charge of chaperoning it. Jordie took you guys to a movie and sat ten rows back, which wasn't all that bad considering you were too nervous to do anything anyway. But when it came to having a small bonfire in the backyard, you and your date were more comfortable with each other. If only your brothers were the same.
Every time he tried to scoot his chair near yours, one of the two older Benn boys would come out with water, food or even just straight-up move your chair further away. You would turn and see the two of them peeking from the sliding door and give them the death stare before they ducked back behind a curtain. The last straw was drawn when you thought you had a free moment to have your first kiss. Jordie and Jamie hadn't come out to bother the two of you when you moved into the same seat or when he held your hand. But the moment you and your date closed your eyes and went in for a kiss, Jamie shoved a bag of marshmallows in between you and said, "it's time for smores yeah?"
You were so horrified that you had your date call his mom to come and pick him up and he had to sit in the living room with your two older brothers while you hid away in your bedroom.
Thinking back on it now, you couldn't help but laugh at just how far your two brothers went to protect you. You even tried to tie that into your situation today– but it was hard to even draw up the similarities.
When you heard the door slide open and shut again and a presence appears behind you, it didn't take long to know just who had joined you on the front porch. "How did you know I was out here?"
"I saw the hot toddy stuff on the counter and I know how you like to come out here to think sometimes." He replied, letting the silence fall between you again before making his way closer to you and coming to a stop beside you, clearing some snow off of the deck ledge and resting his arms onto it– he too was holding his drink. "I'm not sick, but it just hits the spot for when you can't sleep."
"I thought the same thing," you replied, looking at him to see him looking out at the backyard.
You wondered if he was looking out into your old childhood backyard and thinking about all of the memories like you were. Or if he was just staring out for the hell of it, trying to think of what to say to you. Hell, you didn't even know if you were going to be able to start a conversation– you sure as hell didn't feel like you needed to. The fact that he had ignored you up until this very moment was almost enough to make you finish your drink and leave him out on the back porch without a word.
Almost.
"Why are you even talking to me?"
You could tell by his slight wince at the harshness of your question, that he was caught off-guard. Perhaps he was planning to initiate the conversation after all? He took a sip of his drink, sucking in his bottom lip before sighing, hanging his head. "Jordie. He was waiting up for Katie and me and when I came back downstairs, he kind of ripped me a new one about what I said to you..."
A huge wave of disappointment washed over you. Was Jamie only talking to you out of obligation to Jordie or was he really interested in fixing things between the two of you? Would your relationship ever be the same again?
"Oh..." You frowned, looking away from him and down at your cup.
"And he's right. I shouldn't have said what I did." His answer caught your attention and you looked at him as he nodded his head from side to side. "I know that you're...a woman now and that you can make your own decisions, no matter how wrong I think they are."
If it wasn't such a serious and long-awaited moment, you would've burst into laughter at how he had whispered the last part. Just Jamie being Jamie and still owning up to his own beliefs while trying to apologize.
"And it was wrong of me to insinuate that you were just another..."
He didn't need to be looking at you for you to see how severely uncomfortable he was starting to feel at repeating his own words. So, like he often did when you were growing up, you stepped in to save him. "It's okay, I know what you mean. And I'm sorry....for everything."
He didn't respond and only kept looking down at his drink as your apology went unnoticed and the silence settled in between the two of you again. You couldn't help but wonder if this was going to be it– the way the two of you would be around each other for the rest of your lives. Sure, the freshness of it all would wear down the road– but the two of you would never forget what started it all. It'd be there like a stain you'd always try to hide, but never could. And if he wasn't going to add on to your conversation, you were stuck– unsure of what else to do to get him to talk to you.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
For some reason, that question hurt you more than seeing his face the moment he recognized you in Tyler's theatre room. It wasn't as if you were planning on hiding it forever, you were going to tell him. And not telling him before he found out, was going to be your biggest regret for a long time– especially since you could hear just how hurt he was just by hearing him ask that small, simple question.
"I think I was scared of what you'd think...or do," you shrugged, taking another sip of our drink before holding onto it tighter, letting the hot cup heat your hands. "I didn't want you to be mad at me or hate me–"
"Yeah, well look at how that turned out," he mumbled, bringing his cup to his mouth.
You traced your tongue along the side of your cheek and ignored the sting of his hushed words. He had a right to be hurt and you knew it, so you were just going to take it and hope that it was the first choice he was feeling and not the second.
"I guess I just...I didn't want you to be disappointed in me, you know? You're my big brother, I look up to you. I should've told you, I understand that now and I guess I...I don't know."
"Yeah, you should've told me." He replied, finally looking away from his cup and turning towards you. "I still would've been mad, but I'd be a lot less mad than I was when I...found you two."
He turned his attention back towards the snow as the two of you took another sip of your drinks. He sighed, probably making the same face as he did when he was a kid. More silence ensued, but this time it wasn't full of tension. Almost like the kind of silence the two of you could live with as if you were hanging out in the living room, playing on your phones.
"How have you been since...how are you?"
You raised your eyebrows in surprise as you stood up a little straighter. You weren't sure if he was really interested or asking just for the hell of it, but you were going to answer anyway as best as you could without giving too much away. "Alright, I guess," you sighed, bringing the cup back to your lips and leaning your head to the side. "Kind of wishing none of it ever happened?"
"Really?" Jamie asked, perking up a little bit as he looked at you again.
You went to answer, but the knot in your throat prevented you from doing so, so you just brought your cup to your lips and took a sip.
He sighed and you knew that he was well aware that you had just lied to him. "I was mad, Y/N. Like, the maddest that I've ever been in my entire life. Seeing you two like that, knowing you guys had been...and behind my back." He shook his head, taking a moment. "I honestly think I could've killed him then and there, and you...for a hot moment, I think I would've been one hundred percent okay if I never had to talk to you or see you again."
For the first time, you finally understood just how hurt Jamie had been and how seriously he took your situation with Tyler. His confession threw you for a surprise. He really would have been okay with never talking to or seeing you again– your own brother. The guy who was always one of the first people to comfort you. Who let you sneak into his room when you were younger because you were scared of the dark. The same guy who, once you stopped sneaking into his room thanks to a new nightlight, often slept on the floor of your bedroom because you were convinced there was a monster in your closet. His confession was enough to move you to tears and you couldn't have stopped them if you tried.
"I'm sorry," you nodded, shaking your head as your bottom lip trembled. "I-I didn't mean to hurt you and I swear everything with Tyler it just...it came out of nowhere." You took a shallow breath before going to speak again, only a small sob escaped instead.
Jamie turned slightly and stepped closer to you, bringing you into his side and rubbing your arm. He wasn't tense at the sudden hug, but instead relaxed and welcoming. "It's okay, Y/N," he said, not minding that you were getting tears on his sweatshirt. "I mean, I don't understand why you felt like you needed to hide it from me, but I do understand why you did. And I've forgiven you for it."
You sniffled, wiping your cheeks with Jordie's sweatshirt sleeve. "And Tyler?"
He paused and you could hear him holding onto his breath as he contemplated how to answer your question. He let you go from his side and sighed as the fear that you just ruined a six-year friendship, ran through your veins. "I don't know yet."
The two of you settled back in your spots on the deck ledge and sipped your drinks in silence as you both stared out at the falling snow. You got your apology, Jamie was finally acknowledging you and you can no longer feel the tension between the two of you...but something still felt off.
"Were you happy?" Jamie asks, turning towards you fully and resting an elbow on the ledge. "With Segs. Were you happy with him?"
You couldn't help but smile as you thought about all of the times you'd spent with Tyler over the last few weeks. All of the study sessions, the times you'd babysit the dogs. His facetime calls just so he could talk to you and Gerry. How you snuck him on to campus one night because he 'wanted to experience the college dorm life' and then only to have him leave the next morning saying that college beds were horrible and that you'd be sleeping at his place for the rest of the year. The time he added bubble bath to his jacuzzi because he's always wanted to do it, but then decided he'd never do it again because of the bill he had to pay to get it cleaned. Every moment was happy and giggly and left you feeling things that you haven't felt in years– not even in your few years with Cole.
"Yeah," you nodded, letting the smile fall when you looked Jamie in the eye. "Really happy."
"Why?"
You laughed softly at just how blunt Jamie's question was and how serious and bland his tone had been. You shrugged, holding your cup close to you. "I don't know how to explain it, really. I mean, we have chemistry–"
"No, please don't get into that."
"Not only that kind," you rolled your eyes. "It's like...we just get each other, you know? With Cole, it was like he never cared about my interests, my friends or my family. He didn't have the interest to know what I want to do in five years, where I want to travel. We didn't have the same sense of humor and when I'd chirp at him, he couldn't handle it."
"With Tyler," you laughed, tossing your head back softly before nodding and pointing at Jamie. "Do you remember that first roadie I went on with you guys? To Colorado? Well, on the plane ride there I had to fill out study cards, but I fell asleep. On the plane ride back, I found them already made in Tyler's messy handwriting that he tried to make neat, and he helped me study by letting me use him as an anatomy doll. I taped notecards all over him while the guys in the back of the plane laughed, and he just...let it happen. He even tried to learn it too."
You took a long sip of your drink, reminiscing on that first moment when you realized how much Tyler had meant to you. "He already loves and knows my family and my friends, but he still asks about them. Those first few weeks, he asked more about me than Cole had ever asked during our entire relationship. Not to mention, he can take my chirping and give it right back. He's saved me in a bar, picked me up at a party when I was stranded with no ride. He respects me, my choices, he understands that I'm an independent woman who can stand up for herself because she had two older brothers who taught her how to hold her own. But he's still...there, you know?"
Jamie looked at you in silence but seemed as if he was taking your words into serious consideration. Speaking about your time with Tyler made you sad and realize just how much you missed having him in your life. You haven't heard anything from him since the text he sent to you before the game and you figured that he was mad at you because you lied and told him you were staying instead of leaving. You wouldn't allow yourself to even being to imagine how his face looked when he walked into the hallway to see that you weren't there.
"It doesn't matter though, it's over. Tyler probably hates me and...it's over, it's all over." You sighed and chugged the rest of your drink, letting out a harsh sigh before pushing yourself away from the ledge. "I'm going to bed though, I'll see you in the morning. Goodnight."
You turned to walk away and towards the door, tugging on the handle and sliding it open. "Do you want it to be over though?" Jamie asked. "If you could be with him right now...would you?"
You held onto the handle and turned around to look at Jamie. "I love him, J." He opened his mouth to cut you off, but you shook your head. "And I know you think I'm stupid for saying that...and no, I don't know if we would've last or if it was just a short fling...but I do, J. I love him with my whole heart."
You stared at him, trying your best to get a read on his reaction as he just looked at you and registered your words while hoping more than anything, that he'd come to accept your feelings for Tyler. He sucked in his lips and nodded before turning back towards the backyard. "Goodnight, Y/N."
You felt disappointment come over you, a shallow ache echoed in your chest as you made your way back into the house, closing the door behind you. You placed your cup into the sink and tossed Jordie's sweatshirt onto the kitchen counter before walking up the stairs and back into your bedroom. You crawled back into your bed, the hot toddy making your body warm as you tried to focus on your breathing and the tears built up. You took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, trying not to wake Kennedy when another sob escaped.
You felt Kennedy shift and roll onto her side, reaching out and grabbing your hand. "Tyler?"
"Pfft, what?" You sniffled, shaking your head. "No, why would you think that?"
"Because you have 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' trilogy on your bedside table– and you always read it when you're sad."
You went to take another deep breath, only letting out a shuddered one. "Because it has a happy ending...stupid happy endings."
"Yeah, who needs happy endings," Kennedy replied, squeezing your hand.
"Me!" You cried, sniffling as you turned to Kennedy and laughing at how ridiculous you probably looked. "I want one."
Kennedy sighed, squeezing your hand again and staring at the ceiling. "I know, I know."
[ DECEMBER 25TH, 2019 ]
A Christmas Miracle, that's all you could call it. It was as if some Christmas Angel had been watching you and Jamie have your late night heart to heart, because since then– it was like the blip between the two of you never even happened. Everyone was thrilled to see the two of you joking and talking to one another again, probably no one more thrilled than your mom. He even indulged in his yearly Hallmark Christmas movie argument with you, like he did every year.
And, like they've done every year on your birthday since you could even remember, your two older brothers found a way to toss you into a snowbank as a morning wake up. After the age of 13, you found it extremely annoying and always struggled against them as they'd carry you to the backyard. But considering everything that happened, you were more than willing to participate in the festivities. Since your birthday took place on Christmas, your family always had a specific Christmas routine.
The two older Benn boys would toss you into the snowbank, you'd change into the clothes that your mom already had set aside. Then you'd all eat your favorite breakfast (which Jamie and Jordie groomed you to love their favorite breakfast from the moment you had a choice), everyone would settle in with their coffee and drinks of choice before relaxing in the living room. As the birthday girl, you'd always get to open the first present and then everyone would do their gift exchanges. When gifts were done, your dad would put in the first one many original classic Christmas movies and you'd relax all day until the night came. At night, the family would gather up and drive a few blocks down to the Wilkinson's Christmas Tree farm for pond skating and hot chocolate.
It was always a fun-filled day, and besides you finally turning 22 years old, you loved the traditions the day brought and the love and happiness that radiated all around you. The best surprise came when you had Kennedy answer the door to her Christmas present. She squealed when she saw Big Rig standing there with a Santa hat on and a cheesy grin. And when she jumped into his arms and he spun her around on your front porch, your heart swelled with joy. You knew he was coming, the two of you had planned it sometime after Kennedy had gone home. His family was already planning on visiting extended family in Vancouver on Christmas and he thought he'd stop by around late-afternoon to surprise her.
When she found out you were in on the surprise, she tackled you with a hug and then told you that she hated you– but you just told her that you loved her too and to go get her man. As the day dwindled on, you saw how happy everyone was around one another and realized just how incredibly single you were. You looked down at your phone and opened your messages, staring down at Tyler's contact and re-reading his last message over and over again. You opened the message and took a deep breath, typing one up.
Merry Christmas ☃️🎄
You stared at the screen as the small delivered appeared beneath your message. When the three moving dots appeared on his side, you felt your heart skip a beat and the grip on your phone get a little tighter. Maybe he wasn't mad at you after all and was just giving you space to reach out to him?
All of that hope went away just as soon as the three dots disappeared. You felt yourself literally crumble as you hoped that they'd pop up again, but never did. You locked your phone and sighed, before joining your family outside so that you guys could head to the Wilkinson farm.
The Wilkinson's were longtime family friends who owned a Christmas tree farm that had been passed down through generations of family. Over time, instead of just selling Christmas trees, they would sell hot chocolate, have pictures with Santa for the kids, a little 'Elfs workshop' where you could buy small gifts, and in the middle of the space, not too far away from all the small festivities, was a frozen pond where you could go ice skating for the small price of $5 if you had your own skates and $7 if you needed to rent them.
It was a tradition to not only get your Christmas tree from the Wilkinson's but on Christmas night, to go ice skating out on the pond with the Wilkinson's and a few other families as well. It was probably your favorite part of the day because just being around all of the close families and skating around with the kids you grew up with was the best.
But at the moment, that wasn't looking all too cheery.
"Can you at least pretend to be excited?" Kennedy asked, closing the car door behind her. "The look on your face could melt Frosty the Snowman if he was around."
"Oh, I'm sorry," you replied, clasping your hands together. "Let me just smile and wave while I tag along on this," you looked around your group, counting everyone. "This eight-person date. Nothing makes me happier than being the ninth wheel around couples."
"I can be your stand-in, pretend boyfriend if you want?" Big Rig laughed, fixing his coat. "It'd make me look good since I'd have two beautiful girls on my arms."
"I can share," Kennedy laughed, hooking her arm through his. "You can look, but don't touch."
You smiled and rolled your eyes. "Don't worry, he's all yours Kennedy."
"Are you guys coming or no?" Jamie called out. The three of you turned to see the rest of your group already heading towards the small cabin where you would rent your skates.
"Ugh, let's just get this over with, yeah?" You groaned, walking ahead of them and stuffing your free hand into your jacket pocket. You normally weren't such a grouch, but your mood hasn't been the same since you sent that text to Tyler and knew that he had read it. You spent the entire car ride trying to tell yourself that it wasn't your fault– that even before you left the arena, you knew that the damage had been done.
You were just now seeing how life would be without Tyler in it like he used to be.
"Go ahead and go to the pond, Y/N. We're just going to grab some skates." Jordie said, waving you off in the direction towards the pond.
"I'm sorry?" You asked, holding up your skates. "Did I miss the part where the three NHL boys and two parents of NHL players...forgot their skates?"
Jamie rolled his eyes and stepped away from the counter where Tyler Wilkinson, your first crush and three years your senior, was chatting with your parents. He walked over to you and gave you a gentle nudge away from them all. "We're helping Katie, Jessi, Kennedy and Big Rig get skates. Just go snag us a bench before someone else takes one."
You nodded but mumbled incoherently beneath your breath as you walked through the path that leads you directly through the Christmas trees and out towards the pond. The farm itself was looking barren since it was Christmas and the Wilkinson's had sold every available tree that was for sale. The further you walked, the more you could begin to smell the freshness of the trees that still had time to grow until they would be sold in the Christmas's to come. Lined up on both sides of the path were string lights on poles, linking together to light the path.
The trees began to thin out as you came to the opening of the skating area. Strangely, there was no one else around, which was extremely odd since your family was already running a little late than normal and most of the time you guys weren't the first family here. You walked over to a bench and plopped down, getting ready to put on your skates when you noticed something spread along the ice. You turned back towards the path to see if anyone from your group was coming before reaching for your phone and calling Jamie.
Only it went straight to voicemail. You rolled your eyes and waited for his automatic message to finish before speaking. "Is this place closed because nobody else is here. There's also like," you sighed and stood up, making your way over to the ice, carefully stepping on and sliding your way over to the object. "It's this shadow on the ice and hold on, I'm getting closer to it. It's– what the hell?"
Your eyebrows furrowed as you moved closer to what was previously a dark spot on the ice. As you got closer to it– you saw it for what it was...a bottle of wine and a box of your favorite cookies. Surrounding them were printed out pictures positioned to spell something out.
'I'm Sorry'
You slowly moved closer to the pictures, carefully squatting down and picking one up to see it was a candid of you and Marshall snuggling on Tyler's couch. As you looked at the rest of them, you felt your chest flutter. They were all pictures of you. Some of them were selfies of you and Tyler, but most of them were candids of you doing simple things– napping on his lap, studying on the couch, tanning with the dogs, glaring at Tyler after he had spilled flour everywhere on one of the nights you made pizza. Every picture held a memory, all of them you remembered, but none you realized had been captures. Your eyes skimmed them all and landed on the last one that was propped up against the wine bottle and cookies. You reached forward and picked it up, bringing it closer to you before you laughed.
It was a picture of a night where you, Kennedy, Big Rig and Tyler were all hanging out at Tyler's place. Kennedy or Big Rig must have taken the picture because it was of you and Tyler sitting on the couch, obviously trying to cuddle and Gerry was trying to force his way between you while Cash was sprawled out across your lap and Marshall was lying on the floor in front of you, staring at his two brothers. Tyler was laughing and trying to push Gerry off while looking at you with the sweetest eyes and you just had your head tossed back into a full-on fit of laughter.
It was a perfect representation of what your relationship was like– always laughing and pure joy.
You heard someone else join you on the ice and you immediately knew who it was, just based on how the hairs on the back of your neck stood up and your heart pounded against your chest. "Hey, Y/N..."
You wanted to turn around and just run into his arms before the tears got the chance to fall down your face, but you reminded yourself of the hell he had put you through the last two weeks and for once, your body listened to your brain. "What are you doing here?"
You heard him move closer but kept your back to him, fearful that if you even got the tiniest look at him, your courage and defense would come crumbling down in an instant. "You didn't meet me after the game and I..." He sighed, frustrated, "we need to talk about everything."
"I meant what I said Tyler, you had two weeks to reach out to talk to me– to explain everything, but you never did. So why should I give you the chance to do it now?"
"You shouldn't, that's the thing." You hadn't expected him to agree with you if anything you expected him to plead his case and beg for a chance. "But if you do give me the chance...I'll take whatever time you give me."
You took a deep breath, your eyes looking down at the display that suddenly made complete sense. He had set this up on the ice. He had printed off these pictures he'd taken of you and saved– obviously you had meant something to him more than you previously thought. You cleared your throat and put the picture in your hand in your pocket as you brought out your phone and opened the timer. You set it for five minutes before turning around and showing him your screen and pressing the start button. "You've got five minutes."
You were right. One look at him and you wanted to run over to him and just fall into his arms. His hair was disheveled and curled. He was dressed down in jeans, sneakers and a Dallas Stars sweatshirt that you knew all too well. He was in his relaxed element and it was how you loved him the most.
"Okay five minutes, phew okay, um," He stuttered over his own words as he simultaneously struggled to get his hands out of his sweatshirt pockets. "I'm sorry that I never texted you after everything. I meant to– I even typed up a bunch of messages and I just...I never sent them because I don't– I don't know why. God, why is this so hard?" He groaned, rubbing his hands down his face.
"Four minutes."
"Shit, okay I guess I didn't text you because I wanted that to be a face to face conversation? I just, I didn't want to drop shit like that over a text. And the uber thing, God, I fucking wish I could take that back so much, Y/N. Cassidy and Candace even told me how much of a douchebag I was for that. I didn't mean to make you feel like you were just another side piece and I think, I think I was just in fucking shock over how everything just imploded right in front of me."
"Three." You said, taking a glance at your phone before looking back at him. He had maintained eye contact with you every moment he vented, which only made you more emotional. He was covering his bases well and the desperation in his voice and pain in his eyes helped you know that he was meaning every single word. But he still hadn't talked about the one thing you wanted him to explain most of all.
"You were right, about me still being that kid in Boston. I mean, I'm not– I don't want to be. I've worked hard on myself and I've grown up since being here in Dallas– a lot of that was because of Chubb–Jamie. And I think, I think I just panicked over losing not just you...but him too." He stepped closer to you, shaking his head. "I, he's one of my best friends, Y/N. And the pain of even thinking about not having you in my life was horrible– like that shit gave me a migraine. But losing the both of you? I don't think I could even fucking survive."
"Two minutes."
His eyes looked at your phone and you saw them widen in fear. He had so much to say and knew he was running out of time to say it, but couldn't quite phrase it just right. "That's why I didn't text, call or even talk to you in person to explain. I just– I wanted to fix things with Jamie and explain to him that what happened with us, that it wasn't malicious or a stupid hit it and quit it situation– that I actually cared for you and he just, he wouldn't listen."
"You called me an obsessed hook up in the locker room." You said, speaking for the first time other than reading out how much time he had left. "Care to explain that?"
He opened his mouth to speak and closed it, the pattern happening twice before he shook his head and tried to blink away the faint tears that shined in his eyes. "I was frustrated at your brother and that stupid comment Draisaitl made about you and me to Jamie and just," he stepped towards you reaching for your hand and grabbing on to it, staring at it when he realized you hadn't pulled away. "I didn't mean it, I'd never mean that. You're–"
"45 seconds." You said, pulling your hand away from his.
He blinked a few times before nodding his head and licking his lips. "I never invited Maisy to the game, she came herself with her boyfriend and his cousin and her roommate. She just picked those seats because she liked the view and her boyfriend had never been to a game before."
You wanted to ask how he knew that, but you knew there was really only one way he'd find out– he'd have to ask.
"I called her, that same night after the game. I was an honest ass about it too, wondering what the hell she was pulling and she told me everything. She was never there for me. I didn't invite her and I didn't buy her those tickets, Y/N. I would have never done that to you," he reached for you only this time his hand came up to your face. "You were never just a hook-up to me. You were so much more than that and I think that I even lo..." He paused, looking down as your phone timer rang, erupting in between the two of you and signaling that his time was over with. His Adam's apple bobbed as he looked back up at you with hope in his eyes. "You're still so much more to me than that," he whispered, his thumb brushing away a tear on your cheek that you hadn't even noticed started to fall down your cheek.
You took a small step away from him, holding up your phone. "Five minutes is up. Tha–" you cleared your throat and took a breath, relaxing yourself. "Thank you for explaining everything."
He sucked in his bottom lip and nodded his head taking a step back and stuffing his hands in his sweatshirt pockets. "It's the least I could do after putting you through all of that. Thank you for letting me talk, I know you didn't have to do that."
He turned to walk away and paused mid-step, smiling at you. "Happy Birthday by the way. 22 years old? God, what are you an old lady now?" He added a sad mimic of his usual glowing childlike smile.
You gave him a small smile back. "Better than 27 and having joints that crack like an 80-year-olds every time I walk."
He laughed a small and genuine laugh before giving you one last look and turning his back to you, shuffling his way across the ice slowly. You watched him walk away, your heart screaming not to let him go while your brain was wondering how the hell he even got here in the first place. When you went to put your phone back into your pocket, you felt the picture and a quick flashing memory of that day and every day in between, passed by your eyes. The smiles, the laughter, the way you felt comfortable and safe in his arms– you missed it all.
"Tyler, wait! You called out, causing him to stop before he could even get that far away. He turned as you started to shuffle your way across the ice the short distance he managed to travel. "These pictures," you brought out the photograph and pointed at the rest. "Where did you get them?"
"Are you kidding?" He laughed, digging into his pocket and bringing out his phone. He typed away on it before turning it handing you his phone and showing you an album that had been strictly dedicated to you, the dogs and himself.
Titled: 💚🌎
"Honestly, when you rightfully chewed me out in the hallway, I just had this gut feeling that it was over and that maybe I should delete the photos but," he leaned over and looked at the screen, shrugging his shoulders. "As you said, my times with you were some of the greatest memories I've had in Dallas. And even if you didn't want anything to do with me anymore...I still wanted to keep those. Because to me, these pictures," he pointed at the screen and smiled at you. "Those are my favorite memories, the ones that never fail to make me smile. You're my favorite memory of Dallas, Y/N. Not the partying, the people I've met or the fancy events I go to. But you."
You scrolled through the album and saw even more pictures than the ones he had printed out and your heart was feeling like it could just erupt. You looked up at him with tears in your eyes and your bottom lip trembling. "You really hurt me Tyler..."
"I know," he said, shaking his head and the pain and understanding in his eyes evident. "And I will never fucking forgive myself for that, Y/N. I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to say 'fuck you' and kick my dumbass to the curb and never talk to me again." He stood closer to you, closing up any space between your bodies. "And if by some Christmas miracle, you decide to forgive me and give me a second chance...I'd do anything to make it right."
"Anything?" You asked, looking up at him to see him nodding. "Can I have my '#1 labrador mom' keychain back? I miss my puppers."
He laughed and pulled the lanyard along with his house key out of his sweatshirt pocket. "They miss you too, almost as more as I do. Keyword, almost." He handed you the keychain and looked back at you with hopeful eyes. "Anything else?"
You held onto the lanyard tightly and nodded. "Kiss me?"
This time, his real smile took over his face as he wrapped an arm around your waist and pulled you against him, pressing a kiss to your lips. You wrapped both arms around his neck and pulled him into, savoring the kiss before tucking your head into the crook of his neck and closing your eyes. He wrapped his other arm around your waist before picking you up and spinning you around in a daring circle.
"Tyler, no skates!" You squealed, holding onto him tighter as he put you back onto the ice.
He smiled at you, catching his breath before ducking down and kissing you once, twice, three times and pulling you back into his chest. "I missed you so fucking much, Y/N."
"Say it." You said, looking up at him and resting your chin on his chest. "What you were going to say before the timer went off."
He gave you a knowing smile before brushing a piece of hair out of your face and resting his hand on the back of your head. "I love you."
You smiled and jumped up and more into his arms, knocking him off of his feet and onto his ass. The two of you laughed as you straddled over him and pressed another kiss to his lip while your left hand, still holding onto the lanyard, cradled his face. "I love you too." You whispered, feeling his grip around your waist tighten.
He smiled, nudging his nose against your own. "I know."
"OKAY LOVEBIRDS, GET OFF THE ICE SO WE CAN SKATE, EH?" Big Rig yelled out, causing the two of you to look over and see that you had an audience waiting for you at the edge of the pond.
You felt your heart hammer against your chest as you saw Jamie standing there with Katie. You were nervous about what he thought about Tyler's trip here on Christmas to rekindle what you guys had started months earlier. Tyler took the initiative to stand up first, helping you off of the ice and dusting you off before holding onto the hand and leading the two of you to the edge of the pond.
"I forgot to ask," you said, looking at him as he stepped off of the pond first. "How did you even know I was going to be here?"
Before Tyler could say anything, he was cut off. "I called him." You turned to see Jamie stepping towards you and not stopping until he was standing directly in front of you and Tyler. "After my conversation with Jordie and then talking to you...I reached out to him."
You looked at Tyler who gave you a smile and a nod. "We talked everything out and he told me to come out here."
"You helped him plan this?" You asked, looking at Jamie with a confused look.
"Cassidy, Candace and I helped him plan the pictures, cookies, and wine," Kennedy smiled, snuggling into Big Rig's side. "But everything else was him."
"I wouldn't say everything else. I just got him here and kept everyone back at the skate rental." He said, looking back at Kennedy and then at Tyler. "But the rest was Seggy."
You looked at Jamie and tried to read him. There wasn't any tension in his stance towards Tyler, nor was he sending him secret death glares. Instead, he had the same protective brother energy radiating off of him like he did on your first date or around any other guy who tried to date you.
And for the first time ever, you didn't care.
You rushed from Tyler's side and practically tackled Jamie with a hug, squeezing him as tight as you had your eyes shut. He hugged you just as tight, even lifting you off of the ground just a tad. "I love you and I just want what's best for you, Y/N. And if that's Seggy, then I'm on your side...100%." He whispered, kissing the top of your head.
"I love you too J...thank you." You pulled out of his arms and looked back at Tyler with a smile before turning back to your family group. "So, are we skating or what?"
"Well, considering there's a big romantic gesture in the middle of the pond, I don't know how we can do–OW!" Jordie said, looking at Jessi before sighing. "Okay, I guess we can go pick it up. Come on Jamie."
Everyone sat down and talked as they got their skates on and as you looked around the group, you felt like you were once again floating on cloud nine. A hand appeared in front of your face and you looked up to see Tyler smiling at you and nodding his head towards the ice. "Skate?"
"Sure thing, Seguin. As long as you don't go breaking a hip on me." You replied, rolling your eyes.
He laughed and pulled you up off of the bench and the two of you skated around on the ice, hand in hand. "I'll save the hip breaking for the Family Skate at the Winter Classic." He looked down at you. "You're coming to that, right?"
"As a part of Jamie's family or..." You didn't dare say the other option, fearful that you were jumping into a whole nother conversation.
But Tyler smiled and held up your intertwined hands in between the two of you. "You can go as Jamie's family, sure. But I was kind of hoping that you'd you know...skate with me..." He nodded his head side to side, hoping that you'd be able to fill in the blanks but you just smiled. "As my girlfriend? Unless you're totally scared of me beating you in the race we will most definitely be having."
"I'd love to," you smiled, reaching up and kissing him on the lips. "And for the record, I'd totally beat your ass."
He raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Would you like to test that theory?"
You smirked, dropping his hand and winking at him. "You're on."

I will adopt you.
Monsta X (Shownu) hybrid au
Part1 / Part2 / Part3 / Part4 / Part5 / Part6 / Part7 / Part8 /…
A/N: Guys, this scenario is going pretty slowly.I am trying to balance a lot of this right now. I will try to finish all the fics I started pretty soon. Sorry for the delay and any mistakes made.
Word count: 2, 833
Warnings: I mean ,just normal 21 century teen cussing.
——————————————–
The sun warmed up a small area on your cheek. It took a few movements for you to realize that morning was upon you. Once your eyes opened fully ,you were surprised by the still strong warmth making you not want to leave the bed. Soon after, you remembered last night almost like it was a movie scene.
Your back was currently facing Shownu and you didn’t know what to do. Your body felt frozen in place, or it might not have wanted to move. You could hear and feel his gentle deep breaths on the back of your nape.
After some pondering around the idea of doing something, you turned around.The breath in your throat hitched in it’s place, as your eyes were met with his. Shownu was awake. His look was calm, the blinking motion- elegant and gentle. It was so slow and soothing as the hypnotic effect of a watch, swinging side to side in front of your face.
Shownu was just looking at you. His hand gently rose from under the cover, to move a small strand of hair away from your eyes.
“G-good morning.” your voice broke the silence. He huffed a breath of air together with a small smile. The pillow case under his head made a small noise and he came closer, touching your forehead with his.
“Good morning.” you couldn’t take your eyes off of him. From his nose, to his lips, his cheeks and his jaw. You were jumping from one place to the other, trying to take in everything you were seeing.
“We should get up.” you mumbled under your nose, shy from the close exposure
“Do you want to get up?”
“We have to, I mean...I have some stuff to do today.” business was on the schedule for the day and you wanted to finish as soon as possible. He didn’t say a word and just sat up in bed. Shownu’s back was big, almost like a mountain covering you. Your gaze soon ended up onto his extremely messy bed hair. It was a bit funny looking on him and a small chuckle slipped out of your lips.His head looked back at you a bit crooked like a curious pup.
Now fully awake, you stood up on your knees and ran your hand through his hair, trying to calm it down. But it didn’t want to obey you at all. “Wait a second.” swiftly you jumped off the bed and grabbed the first brush you saw on top of your vanity. Shownu sat on the side of the bed as you walked back to him. With a gentle movement you began trying to brush through his hair, with the key word here being *trying*.
“Oh wow!” your hand was firmly on his forehead as you tried to pull the now stuck brush “Strange, your hair didn’t look so tangled yesterday.” the wood got caught in his thick fur like hair and didn’t want to let go. Placing your hands on your waist, you began thinking of something. “Let’s go to the bathroom.”
Shownu was sitting on the edge of the bathtub as you rolled up the sleeves and cuffs on your pant. You didn’t want to get anything wet since this was going to be a tricky situation. Making sure his hair was wet enough, you put a big dollop of shampoo on your hand and began rubbing it into his hair. After the shampooing was done, you used the conditioner to smooth his hair enough to be brushed.
“Usually, any hairdresser would kill me for brushing wet hair.But you need all the help you can get.” it was difficult, you couldn’t lie about that for sure. He was very obedient, sitting still yet making strange faces as you tugged on his head. At some point you found yourself pulling the brush in one direction and pushing him in the other. It felt more like a fight between you and the knots is his fur. After what felt like an hour, you were able to turn it into something that resembled normal hair.
“I am done, I am done.” you could hear him growl out from time to time, almost like an angry pup fighting for his favorite toy. Washing off the conditioner, you threw a towel on his head and pulled him back to the couch in the living room. Shownu sat down cross-legged when you rubbed his head furiously to dry it. He didn’t have long locks of hair to pull out the hairdryer, plus you kinda forgot where it was anyways.
Breakfast was super fast, just some cereal.You wasted most of the morning on brushing Shownu, so you had to do things quickly. He was eating in front of you on the table and staring at the milk in the bowl. It was kinda quiet mainly because he was still shy around you. Or maybe he was more action and less talk type of person.
“I am going to go out for a bit today.” his head shot up in a nanosecond as he heard that you will be leaving for some time “I just finished up some documents that I need to hand them over to my supervisor. I have a meeting with him in a cafe close by, so I will probably take maybe 2 hours, more or less.”
“2?” he mumbled
“I was planning on meeting some friends too, since I always stay home.” you added ,placing the metal spoon in the bowl. Shownu perked up, when you placed your fingers on his forehead and pushed him back down. Kind of like in those seal videos you liked to watch on YouTube. This man constantly gave off mixed energies- one moment he is dominate and breathtaking and the other he is a total pup that you just want to cuddle all day. “Stay.” pulling your hand back, you pointed at him “Eat slowly and don’t rush or you will get indigestion. I will go get ready.”
Quickly you dashed to the bedroom and pulled out the formal clothes you had. Winter or not, you were meeting someone of a high position so being appropriately dressed always gave you extra work points. It made you look like you take your job seriously, even tho you did most of the work in your pjs eating chocolate.
“I am leaving. Do you want me to turn the TV on for you?” you placed the coat on your back and made sure the scarf was nicely tied around your neck- no cold air was going to reach you and that was the plan. Shownu was staring at you, but didn’t answer nor react to your question. “Ok...I am off then.” the shoes were on in a flash and you closed the door behind yourself. The elevator was taking longer to reach your floor today, since someone went to the last one and down again.
The doors finally slid open ,when you saw your reflection in the mirror and realized “I forgot the documents!” tapping your head a few times ,you ran back to your apartment “Idiot, idiot. So much for being professional.” the key slid in easily and you swung the door open. Almost instantaneously you jumped up almost hitting the light in the hallway.
“GOD!” you grabbed your chest with one hand and the door frame with the other “SHOWNU!” you screamed out so high pitched it sounded almost like a whistle note.”WHAT are YOU doinggggg!” you were going up and done the scale mixing in emotions that you never new you could express.
The boy was sitting literally in front of the door with his still half-full cereal bowl, staring. After catching your breath and making sure your heart didn’t relocate in your ears, you looked down at him. “Get up, it’s cold down there.” you tried to drag him to the fireplace, but obviously couldn’t ,so you asked him to move himself. “I made you a nice nest here so you can sleep and not catch a cold. Is this how pet owners feel when their animal doesn’t use something they bought for them? Probably.” the boy was just listening to you talking to yourself.
“Why did you come back?” his voice cut your monologue short
“I forgot to take the documents I need.” you grabbed them from the cozy spot on the table and closed the door behind yourself. You were about to lock it, when in your mind popped up a random thought. Slowly you pushed the handle down and slid the door silently open. Shownu was once more sitting on the cold ground looking at you, almost like the situation a minute ago didn’t happen. Eyes locked, you couldn’t take the somehow sad look he was giving you, so you burst into the room.Your hands were on your waist, scrunching the folder a bit.
“Get up puppy we are going shopping!” he crooked his head to the side and you knew you completely lost the movie reference moment. “Get dressed, you are coming with me.” in a matter of seconds he turned into his hybrid form, standing in the pile of clothes. He placed them on the bed and stared at you. From the hanger next to the entrance ,you pulled down the leash you got him, making sure it was lose around his neck.
Finally you were able to lock the door and jump in the elevator. It was silent until you grabbed his front paws and with all the strength you got pulled them off the floor. Shownu was confused and looking around like he was searching for the explanation in the environment.
“There we go.” sighing deeply you stared at the small backpack you threw on his back “You are not leaving the house without clothes. I don’t want to get called in the police station to pick your butt-ass naked self up.” his eyes were a bit judgmental about the whole situation You could have told me before hand. “I know I know, I am just all hyper after you scared me.” It is a strange habit I have. “Well we need to work on that.”
Checking the time, you calculated that there was enough of it not to rush around town like a crazy person. As you were planning your steps for the day, Shownu’s head shot in your direction. You can hear me?! “Yes, give me a second.I am thinking about something.By the way, didn’t know you can talk in dog form.” I can’t. “Ha?!” you looked down where he was sitting with almost the same emotions on his face “Then how do I hear you?? ?” I don’t know, this never happens with humans. “Wait, there are more hybrids?” Of course, do you think I materialized myself out of thin air? “How then?” he was a different species you could say, so it was natural to expect some differences. When a mommy wolf and a daddy wolf love each other a lot the- “Ok let me stop you there!” you placed your hands in front of his face to indicate how you weren’t looking forward to the direction this was going in “I know how it goes, we are good. I don’t need Sex ED in the elevator. I am good, really.” It’s interesting though. “I said I am good.” I don’t mean that. I am talking about you hearing me. “Do you think you can hear me thinking too?” We can try. You concentrated your mind as best as you could on random things, so the experiment could be with clear results.
“Um, morning Y/N...” your neighbor stepped in the elevator, confused about you intensely staring at your gigantic dog.
“Hi!” you straightened your back and looked at the man “I was just making sure he...um...he didn’t get bit by this other dog.”
“Oh, he is a fighter then?” the old man calmed down a bit and even chuckled “That shows you he is a lively one.”
“Sure is.” you let out a mix between a fake laugh and embarrassment “Have a nice day.” you ran out the building as fast as you could.
“Never doing that again.” your hands were leaning onto your thighs as you took a deep breath. That made no sense to begin with. “Don’t act all smart with me.” the alarm you set on your phone rang loudly and you cussed out “I am seriously going to be in trouble at this point.” Do you know where you are going? “Yeah, my boss gave me the address, I just need to pull out my phone and not drop it.” people were making way mostly because of Shownu’s size and fierce looks. “Here hold this!” your hand swung and you pushed the folder in his mouth, shocking even the people passing by.
“It’s around the corner we are close by.Oh wait!” stopping in front of the door you stared looking around the glass exterior. What are you doing? “I am trying to see if this place allows animals in.” Just go in. You pointed at his reflection and Shownu very quickly realized what you meant. The bell above the door rang and a very nice girl with short baby blue hair smiled in your direction. Her finger pointed at the very top corner of the cafe next to the sign.
“We allow pets, you don’t have to worry. Come in.” you bowed a bit from the sudden introduction and followed her inside “We have an area you can leave your pets if you want to. “ the girl sat you down next to the window and gave you a menu. “Is it male or female?”
“He is a boy.” you said
“Most of the dogs in the pet area are female, so I am just asking.Some customers are very picky about the animals that play with their pets.” your eyebrows frowned upon hearing that “Strange, I know. But that is how it is I guess.Would you like to order?”
“Oh yes. I would like the cafe’s special please.” closing the menu, you placed it on the table and crossed your legs, making yourself comfortable. “Nunu, do you want to go over there?” you looked at Shownu I am too tired to run around with them.Plus I am not an animal, I am a hybrid. “Ok, suite yourself.” the girl was still next to you while you were having this small chat “I am sorry, I probably look crazy to you.” you laughed out, scratching the back of your neck.
“No, not at all. I am also a dog owner and I know how it is.” she smiled in your direction and grabbed the menu “I will be right back with your order.” you nodded
The cafe was pretty nice, even thought there were so many animals. It was quiet and calming. They were all playing and enjoying themselves as their owners were talking with friends or just enjoying a moment of silence. Shownu was strangely falling asleep while you scouted the area. It was cute the way his head bobbed from time to time and his cute eyes blinked, trying to stay open.
“If you want to sleep, just tell me.” you giggled, patting your thighs. I am too heavy. “Not like that stupid.” you grabbed his head and placed it on your lap. He was big enough to lay on the floor and have his head comfortably on you. “See?” you asked Shownu as he was dosing off fast. Mhmm he just mumbled. The finishing blow came after you started petting his head, he just fell asleep in a second. Kids would come around from time to time wanting to pet him, because he looked like a big cuddly teddy bear.
Shownu staid awake most of the night making sure you had enough space on the bed, you were warm and comfortable. His worrisome nature kept him awake for most of the time. Your fingers ran through his thick fur slowly. As he was resting and recharging his battery, you were looking out of the glass window, waiting for your supervisor to finally show up.
Truth be told, you didn’t know who they were. You got a raise and placed in a higher standing branch of the company, so this was kinda you first day at work and your first evaluation. You were a bit worried that bringing Shownu was a bad idea, but his calm sleeping face and the way he would nuzzle himself closer to you, relaxed you and erased all anxiety you had. The tiny bell above the cafe door rang, but your attention was still focused on the outside world. The sun was illuminating your beautiful face and outlining your body in the comfortable yet formal clothes. You looked like an empress, petting her pet tiger and enjoying the empire she ruled over.
That picture formed in the head of the man that was walking towards you.

wanted to get out some britt/ana thoughts before bed and they’re all negative so if you don’t wanna read them don’t read them. i’ll even put it below a cut so you’ve got no excuse if you want to avoid. anyway i don’t want your rebuttal or whatever klaine insult anon message you might send in retaliation bc i’ll delete it without answering like i have the last few so save us all the trouble. thanks in advance
ANYWAy of course i’ve been thinking about this before in the wake of me realizing how much i absolutely hate brittany and how she is the worst character on the show for me. but watching thetrophymuncher react to the show for the first time as someone who’s never seen or i suppose even heard about it, and seeing the issues he points out, makes it that much more obvious to me
i’ll spare everyone my rehashing of why brittany is the worst character on the show. i know i’ve talked about it enough. but besides the fact that she is literally less consistent than quinn, she also just. does nothing. and to me, that’s part of why britt/ana fans think they have the perfect relationship
i keep thinking back to the one gifset i saw that was that shady ass “happy anniversary britt/ana and klaine!” gifset that was all of britt/ana’s best moments side by side with klaine’s worst moments. and idk why but the one i remember the most is the wss cast list going up. and brittany is smiling and hugging santana and kurt is hugging blaine but also >gasp!< kurt isn’t 110% thrilled bc he also wanted the part of tony and he has conflicting feelings. the fucking rat bastard
brittany’s wants never conflict with santana’s because she has no wants. she’s a boring character and it makes their relationship boring. we’ve heard it a million times that no one wants to watch two characters sit around saying “i love you” all day but that is literally all they do. am i saying they need to fight to make things interesting? no. but no couple is going to get along 100% of the time. they’re going to butt heads eventually. i mean, they will if they’re actual individuals with their own thoughts and opinions, at least
i hope this doesn’t come as a shock to anyone, but you are not your best self in high school. people grow and they change and that’s okay. it’s allowed, actually. but brittany and santana are such enablers of one another’s shitty behavior. they let each other be as selfish and bitchy and mean as they want and they don’t care. they let each other go unchecked and are just like “well we’re hot so it’s okay”. and the fandom is the same goddamn way, which is why i dislike them as much i dislike the ship
circling back around to ttm’s reactions because that’s what made me want to word vomit this all up in the first place. when brittany was running for class president and he’s like “oh this will add a lot to her character”. It didn’t. During I Kissed A Girl and Santana’s coming out, he’s like “oh i thought they would at least focus some on Brittany and their relationship”. They didn’t. They have no scenes together, Brittany has no lines, Brittany doesn’t even sing the other part of the I Kissed A Girl duet!!
Brittany has no conflict or arguments with Santana or anyone else because it would literally be like arguing with a rock. She is a blank slate that only comes to life to deliver some cringe one liner that creates an awkward silence before everyone moves on with their lives. The writers put no thought into her and it shows over and over again. And fans will jump through hoops explaining why she’s an amazing character and Britt/ana is an amazing ship, because all they care about is two hot girls making out
And the shit that Brittany gets away with in regards to Santana is absolutely astounding. Season one, she literally outs herself and Santana to half their friends, in the middle of a crowded school hallway. No repercussions because we had to save it for s3 when the same thing happened but this time It’s Serious. In s3 she literally leaks hers and Santana’s sex tape to the entire world (which, hello, child pornography?) and in s4 Santana says that tape will literally follow her for her entire life. But no, it was a totes sweet gesture and her heart was in the right place. And the whole thing about Brittany deciding which college to sign Santana up for and sending in the applications without telling her and giving Santana absolutely no say in her own future? I’ll tell you THAT never sat right with me, never will. And the one that re-sparked this whole feeling for Britt/ana is the gem of a moment in s3 where Brittany takes part in Mr. Schuester’s offensive as fuck number where he’s a bullfighter and she’s literally dressed up as a bull running and dancing across the stage while he sings. Bc y’know, culture
And Santana delivers that whole speech about how offensive it is that he’s perpetuating these stereotypes and he’s so clueless that he really doesn’t know better. So where’s this for Brittany? We’re just ignoring her? I mean yeah we are, because she’s nothing. It’s like the whole thing of people trying to say she’s the sweet summer child too good for this world too pure naive little lamb that must be protected, but she’s also the math genius epic troll that’s always three steps ahead of everyone else. And that’s what makes me hate Britt/ana no matter how you slice it, and even dislike Santana when she’s with Brittany. Either Brittany is too naive to know what’s going on, and therefore Santana is taking advantage of her (“Which isn’t cheating because..?” “The plumbing’s different”). Or Brittany knows exactly what she’s doing at all times and is the one who’s manipulating Santana because, idk, she’s the fucking puppet master genius or whatever the fuck. Either way, she does some shitty, shady, stupid as fuck shit and gets away with it bc all people care about is two hot girls making out
Anyway wow look how long that was and how much I rambled. If anyone reads all of this I will be shocked. But like I said I just wanted to get some thoughts out and I don’t care for whatever argument you have against this bc it really just does not matter to me. Okay thanks goodnight x

happy birthday to one of my favourite humans @snowdog49 💕💖 my gift for you is some royai fluff with mia from “the way it was”
this is a oneshot idk if it will be in the main story or not but i know you wanted more moments with papa!roy and mia so here you go uwu
have the best day bc you deserve it sm ❤
“Daddy?”
Riza jerked herself from sleep upon hearing her daughter cry out for her father. Groggily she sat up, disorientated for a second. When she got her bearings, she heard Roy still snoring in the bed beside her.
“Daddy?” Mia called again, her voice taking on a hint of fear. Every instinct screamed at Riza to go through and see to Mia… But she was so tired.
Plus, this was Roy’s fault. He’d been watching her one night while Riza was at the university for a meeting regarding her studies, and Roy had decided it would be a smart idea to put on a film for children, which in itself, was fine… however, now Mia had nightmares – every night – about the ridiculously large “wererabbit” that had been the main antagonist in the story.
Bless her little heart, she was terrified of it. Riza had watched the “scary” parts after Mia had finally fallen asleep – she’d been too scared to – and there was nothing scary about it, however to a four-year-old… Riza could see where the fear came from. It was large cuddly looking “wererabbit” that had comically large teeth and a cute little smile, but the setting of the film was eery. It would definitely spook a four-year-old.
Roy’s argument was that he’d watched it when he was younger and didn’t find it scary. Well, now he had to deal with the consequences.
Riza had been up with her four nights out of the past five, so now it was his turn.
Lying back down in bed she reached over with her foot, contacting his shin rather sharply.
He grunted in pain. Riza had closed her eyes, feigning sleep, but felt the bed dip by her side. Opening them slightly in the darkness, she saw Roy had pushed himself off his front, and watched as he shook his head to try and right himself, just like Riza had done when she first woke.
“Daddy!” Riza’s heart ached and she almost ran through there and then because Mia sounded so scared. Roy had obviously heard her cry. Before literally dragging his body out of the warm and comfortable bed, he flopped out of his push up position, hitting the pillow with his face hard. There was another groan and then he stumbled tiredly to their bedroom door.
“Hey, Mia Bear,” he greeted sleepily, followed by a yawn. “What’s up?”
“I had another nightmare,” Riza heard her whisper. Riza had to strain, eventually choosing to sit up so she could eavesdrop on their conversation.
* * *
“Another nightmare?” Roy asked tiredly. Damn, he hadn’t thought the film would be this terrifying to her. It was a massive stuffed rabbit, what was so scary about that?! He’d loved that film as a kid.
Mia nodded and pulled her sheet higher up her face, so now it was covering her mouth.
He paused for a second in the doorway, taking in the scene before him. Her eyes were large and earnest, almost begging him not to leave her alone in her room with her dreams. The grip on her sheet was tight, her knuckles matching the colour of the white cover.
“Shift over,” he murmured, stepping into the room. He reached to switch her bedroom light off, but Mia whined and shook her head, tears beginning to collect in her eyes. “Hey, it’s okay, Mia. I’m here.”
“No!” she cried out. “Don’t turn the light out,” she whispered.
Great. He’d made her afraid of the dark.
“Mia, it’s fine, I’m right here –”
“No!” She sounded like she was about to burst out crying.
Roy sighed and lowered his hand away from the switch. If it was causing her this much distress, then it wasn’t worth it.
“Okay,” Roy reasoned. “I’ll be back in a second.”
“No, Daddy,” she pleaded. “Don’t leave me, please!”
Something in Roy’s body jerked at the words Mia used. Riza had requested the same thing from him after returning from Ishval. He never could – not like that again – but still, the fear in Mia’s voice held him at bay a second longer.
The reality of his situation was that if he was called up, he would go off to fight in a war. However, he’d already left Riza once and it was one of the hardest things he’d ever had to do. He didn’t think he’d be able to do it again, especially not with Mia in the picture now too.
Then you’ll be demoted, or lose your job, Roy.
“Daddy?” Mia’s call was uncertain, and it drew Roy back to the present.
Focus on them. Always.
Cross that bridge with the military if it comes to it.
“Sorry, Mia Bear. Come with me,” he beckoned, holding out his hand.
Immediately she hopped out of bed. She slipped on her bear slippers – they were brown and the front at the toes was a comically large bear’s head – and shuffled over to him. Mia grabbed his hand tightly and Roy didn’t think he’d be able to escape the grip if he tried.
“Where are we going?” she asked as they stepped out of her bedroom. Roy felt Mia tense because the hallway was dark, so he flicked on the light switch that was across from her bedroom door. The grip on his hand relaxed after they were bathed in the light.
“I have a night light in our bedroom that will make your bedroom a bit brighter while you try and sleep.” Roy paused before his bedroom door and knelt, so he was eye-level with his daughter. “But we’ll need to be extra quiet because Mummy is sleeping, okay?” Mia nodded. “Like a mouse.”
“Like a mouse,” Mia repeated with a giggle.
“And if you’re quiet enough, you’ll hear Mummy snoring.” He grinned when he stood, hearing Mia gasp beside him.
“Does Mummy snore?” she whispered, almost scandalised.
“Oh yes,” Roy reassured her. “Like an elephant.”
That will teach her to kick me awake, he thought, chuckling to himself.
When they entered their bedroom, it did look like Riza had fallen back asleep. Mia wouldn’t be able to see her face from her level, but Roy could, and he watched as she opened one eye and raised the matching eyebrow.
Roy gestured to her with his head, telling her to play up her act, and was unable to stop himself from snorting when Riza let out a loud snore. It was just one, then she quietened down, but it made Mia giggle and to both parents, that was all that mattered.
Mia had slapped a hand over her mouth to try and stifle her laugh, but it wasn’t working very well. The louder she laughed the louder Riza comically snored and if Roy wasn’t quick, Mia would figure out the joke.
“Mia,” Roy scolded lightly with a grin. “Quiet as a mouse, remember?”
It took a lot of effort, but she managed to school her expression and hold in her laughter. For the second time that night, Roy’s movements were arrested by how alike her mother Mia was. It was like he’d been transported back fifteen years and was watching Riza do the same thing in her father’s old house while they played in secret, trying not to disturb him.
“Okay,” Mia vowed, but let out one last giggle. “Quiet as a mouse,” she nodded.
Roy tugged her over to the dresser in the corner. He crouched and pulled open the bottom drawer while Riza “snored” at a much lower volume behind them. Finding what he was looking for, Roy lifted it to show Mia, then jerked his head back to the door, making sure he had a tight grip of her hand to tow her out.
Once safely back in her bedroom, Mia let out another giggle. “Wow, Mummy is a very loud snorer!”
“She is,” Roy agreed, feeling too playful to not go along with it. Plus, it had cheered Mia up, so how he could give up the gig now? “Sometimes it takes me ages to fall asleep because she’s so loud!”
Mia’s head tipped back as she lay on her bed, her peals of laughter echoing around the room. She certainly wasn’t concerned about not “waking up” Mummy now. Roy wasn’t going to stop her. Not while her legs lifted into the air and kicked in her hilarity.
“Mia,” he laughed to himself, approaching their daughter’s bed. At this rate she’d be too wired to sleep. “Quiet as a mouse, remember?”
“Sorry Daddy,” she giggled. Her legs lowered, flopping down on the bed, and her hands came to rest on her stomach. She grinned at him and Roy thought it was one of the loveliest sights in the world. An overwhelming urge to remain there with his daughter all night overcame Roy, and he knew he wouldn’t be returning to sleep by Snoring Riza’s side tonight.
“It’s okay, Mia Bear. Right, let me get this set up,” he announced, waggling the night light in front of him.
The night light was something his mother had bought when Mia was born. “I wonder if she will take after her father,” Christmas had remarked with a raised eyebrow. Roy had been terrified of the dark as a kid, and who could blame the kid who slept above a bar while drunken men shouted and partied below him. In the old bar, it was like ghosts floating around the floors.
By pure coincidence, it was also shaped like a bear. Mia didn’t start what they called her “bear phase” until she was about two, but it matched the bear blanket she’d had as an infant then as a toddler. Roy glanced over to Mia’s shelf next to her bed, seeing the same bear blanket – much more worn now than it had been years ago – angled where it was lying so the bear head was watching over her bed while she slept.
Mia was terrified again when Roy went to turn her bedroom light off. Her mouth was parted in fear, her hands gripping her bedsheet tightly in her fists.
“It’s okay,” Roy reassured her. “Look.”
Before she could protest, Roy flicked the light off. Mia let out a loud whine, but it died off quickly when a soft glow emitted from the night light plugged into the socket by her bedroom door. Roy stepped out of the way to let the whole light fill the room, and thanks to a little filter on the plastic, there were now tiny little bears projected all over her ceiling and walls.
“Wow,” Mia gasped in wonder, her head craning all around her room to find them all.
“Now the bears will watch over you,” Roy told her, approaching the bed. “Budge over.” Roy lifted the cover and scooted into the bed next to his daughter.
He didn’t want to leave her tonight. Their shenanigans didn’t happen often because he was so busy at work, but he’d take every opportunity he could to spend time with Mia. He wished they could play all day, every day, but alas, that would never be a reality. So, if spending time with his daughter meant watching over her while she slept – and himself losing sleep in the process – then he would take it. Always.
“Get some sleep, Mia,” Roy murmured. He’d propped himself up on an elbow, his head resting on a fist. His hand ran through Mia’s unruly hair. It was so like his own, and Roy was very proud of that fact.
“I can’t,” she whispered, pulling the sheet right up to cover her mouth.
“You can, honey. I’m right beside you and you have all your bears watching over you now too.”
Mia’s head craned up to look at him. “You won’t leave?” she asked, her tone pleading with him not to.
Once again, Roy was jerked back into the past.
“Just promise me you won’t leave,” Riza whispered against him.
“I won’t,” Roy vowed. “Not like that again.”
“Never,” Roy vowed. He bent forward and kissed the top of her head. “I’ll protect you, and so will your bears.”
“But…” Mia trailed off then lifted her head, peering down the bed to the bottom where his feet were sticking out underneath the sheet. “You don’t fit,” she frowned.
Roy chuckled, wiggling his toes. Mia smiled and laughed at the same time. He almost opened his mouth and told her he’d slept in worse places, but that was not an avenue he wanted to go down at three o’clock in the morning with his four-year-old.
“I can’t go back to sleep in the same bed as Mummy, though.”
“Why not?”
“You heard her snoring!” Roy exclaimed. “I won’t be able to fall asleep with her snoring that loudly.” Mia’s laughter was loud once more, and it was wonderous sound. It was worth it one last time. Riza might kill him for it, but Roy didn’t care. “Get some sleep Mia Bear. I love you.”
“I love you too, Daddy,” Mia sighed, settling into her bed as she shuffled right up to his side. Roy’s arm wrapped around her body, pulling her in close he couldn’t resist bending to kiss the top of her head one last time.
“Mummy loves you too.”
“I love Mummy,” she yawned. “She’s the best.”
“Better than me?” Roy asked in mock horror.
Mia snickered sleepily. “Never, Daddy. You’re both equally the best. She’s the best Mummy and you’re the best Daddy.” Mia’s eyes drifted closed and Roy felt her body relax into the bed. Mia was asleep almost in an instant.
On the opposite side of the room, Roy glanced up when he heard her bedroom door open. Riza crossed her arms and leaned against the doorframe with a soft smile on her face as she watched them.
“You are a menace,” Riza whispered to him.
“It cheered her up,” Roy shrugged. “And it stopped her thinking about the wererabbit, so I’m classing it as a win,” he grinned.
“Uh hu.” Riza raised an eyebrow. “At my expense,” she pointed out, but Roy knew she wasn’t mad.
“Anything for our little girl, right?” he reminded her sweetly, then laughed quietly as she rolled her eyes at him, pushing off the doorframe as she unfolded her arms.
“Of course,” Riza agree. Her whole expression softened as she watched Roy brush a hand through Mia’s hair, alternating between doing that and brushing his thumb over her forehead. “Anything for her.”
“I promised I wouldn’t leave. Go back to bed. I’ll be fine here,” Roy reassured her.
“I love you,” she murmured over her shoulder.
“Love you too, my darling.”
“Oh, wait,” she muttered, crossing the room. She crouched at his side, giving him a chaste kiss. Roy smirked into it, loving her attention.
“And for the record,” she whispered in his ear. “I don’t snore.”
Even to this day, her breath tickling his ear made him shiver. Roy doubted that feeling would ever leave him, and he was one hundred per cent okay with that.
“Yes, dear,” he replied dutifully, his tone suggesting he didn’t believe her one bit. He smirked though, and he caught Riza hiding her grin as she walked away.

November 13: 1x23 A Taste of Armageddon
Feeling pretty tired now, and it’s been a rough day, but I did rally to watch, and enjoy, an episode of Star Trek.
A diplomatic mission today. The Enterprise comes with friendly intentions!
I don’t entirely get this Ambassador or the back story here. They want to set up diplomatic relations with this solar system, because Federation members somehow get killed there a lot. But the Eminians don’t ever leave their solar system, so if the Federation is having problems with them it must be because the Federation is messing around in their space. So perhaps you could just no go there?
Mmm love Kirk being A Captain. “I’m thinking about this ship, my crew.” He’s not a fan of Ambassadors or people usurping his power.
And Spock seems very interested in all of this.
Aw yeah another cool 50s sci fi background! There are more of these than I remembered.
All of the interior hallways, as well as the exterior painting, are all nice and bright and multi-colored for those new color TVs.
It’s hard to pinpoint why, but I feel like this is an effectively Alien culture. Like maybe it’s the weird hats or the colorful hallways or the initial mysterious nature of them, but they just feel very not human, in a way ST alien guest stars don’t always manage imo.
Those annoying colonists lol. Sent them to a new planet and now they’re attacking us.
“If this is an attack... where’s the attack?”
Everyone in Star Trek does a lot of scanning and surveillance.
“Our civilization lives--the people die--but our culture goes on.” Literally America’s COG plans.
“I do not approve. I understand.” I love Spock so much.
The target has been “classified destroyed.” Kirk is confused and rightfully so.
Hmm, is Spock meditating?
Oh, there’s McCoy! Guess he didn’t get the memo yet that he and everyone else is dead.
Scotty know when Kirk’s voice isn’t Kirk’s voice. I love Scotty also and appreciate that he’s getting a bigger role at this point in the series.
I guess Spock is still a “Vulcanian.” Ngl... kind of wish they’d stuck with that. It has a certain ring. I feel like this is the first mention of their telepathic abilities--aside from the mind meld specifically. And they’re “limited” abilities. But not so limited that he can’t control that dude’s mind without touching him--and through a door. Mom suggested the ability is stronger with touch, which makes sense, especially as they do have psychic bonds with each other. But still. That looked pretty powerful to me.
Kirk is so apologetic about possibly being forced to kill.
“I’ll cover you.” It’s probably because of STXI that that affects me so much lol.
I can’t believe “there’s a multi-legged creature on your shoulder” worked! I remember seeing this ep for the first time and just completely losing it at that.
No one’s even gonna talk about the Prime Directive today, I guess.
So it’s already escalating as Anan said: real weapons used to destroy their weird suicide machines, now real weapons to attack the Enterprise.
Scotty’s not impressed by their fire power though.
If only Spock were here to be reminded of his father.
“The best diplomat I know is a fully activated phaser bank.” But they’re not military lmao.
Kirk is so turning up the charm again with Mea. But she’s not very susceptible to it and he’s getting kind of impatient, so it’s like Aggressive Charm.
I feel like this ambassador isn’t very smart. He’s too trusting, doesn’t seem to have great instincts. As opposed to Scotty, who is also Brave and Good, taking a stand.
“The haggis has hit the fan.” Please tell me that is not a real Scottish saying.
I know Kirk and Anan are supposed to be, like, tense and dangerous and threatening in this scene, but it’s reading almost flirty. “Would you...like a drink?” Kirk’s little finger crook thing.
You can tell he already has a plan at this point, which is kind of unusual in terms of Star Trek structure imo. Like usually you’re more with Kirk as he develops a plan, and here you’re watching him hint at the plan. “I don’t need my ship to destroy your whole planet” and so on.
“A man like that would have preferred to die fighting.”
How’d the diplomats get down to the planet? I thought the shields were still up.
They’re really giving Fox the Cliff’s Notes version of their society, huh? “Nice to meet you, you’re off to die now, sorry, really.”
Spock’s like “Oh, no, an Ambassador being killed?? How terrible...”
“Keep her from leaving. Sit on her if you have to.” Unexpectedly hilarious like wtf kind of order is that. And then the Yeoman like trying to look all fierce and Mea’s like “Yeah, okay,” eye roll.
“I’m practicing a peculiar variety of diplomacy.” Spock is such a bad ass. And he’s having a good time being action hero.This is why Vulcans think he’s weird.
Now he needs to find the Captain!
Kirk and Spock both using schoolyard tactics to win fights: tripping someone, the old spider trick. And they’re effective!
Quite possible even better than the spider scene is this ‘Spock comes to rescue his boyfriend and Kirk already has two guns trained on the room’ scene. “I thought you needed help.” / “Oh, I need the help.”
“We’re not going to kill today.” Honestly this one speech is deeper than all 7 seasons of the 100. Also more optimistic and nicer.
Kirk versus the computer again lol. This time, with firearms!
“A feeling is not much to go on.” IT IS IF IT’S A SIMPLE FEELING AMIRITE FELLAS?
“You almost make me believe in luck.” / “You almost make me believe in miracles.”
Honestly where the fuck is EITHER of those things coming from? Like no one was talking about luck and they definitely weren’t talking about miracles!! No one mentioned any miracles, Jim!!
He always gets so flirty after the danger is over, though. Every single time. “Ah, yes, all is well, now time to say something romantic or suggestive. As a treat.”
And then they play that weird comical music over Spock’s confused face as if that made it less queer.
So anyway this isn’t the official Vietnam War Episode but it’s kinda giving me Vietnam vibes. (According to the amazon trivia, I’m right: the computer tallies of the war dead was inspired by Vietnam causalities being shown on tv at night.) From an American perspective, it’s far away, it’s largely invisible, but it’s also long, it seems to exist for its own sake.
Also interesting that no one ever mentions why the two sides are fighting--probably because after 500 years, they don’t know. They just continue on in this mechanized, unceasing way.
That was a really good episode, and even though the actual danger of computer isn’t really what they predicted, I think it holds up regardless, in a different way.
I mean first of all technology has done a fair bit to sanitize war--the use of drones, for example, that allow the aggressors not to see their damage.
But also, and this is like only a half-thought really, but... One thing I think about a lot that the show didn't predict is that the internet allows us to see so much more than any other group of people in history. everything is very close, and there are pictures and videos and so on, from all over the world, available to you at any given time. I think this is very hard to deal with psychologically. So thinking about that in relation to this...it's a different balance but for the Eminians, war was both very real and close--it's constant, and people die all the time in huge numbers--but also very far away, because it's happening essentially hypothetically. So the dichotomy doesn’t line up in the same way but it still exists, imo.
And wow, that “we’re not going to kill today” speech. That was an interesting little wrinkle: that part of why the Eminians continued warring was because they felt like it was just inherently who they were. Their nature. Same philosophy espoused by all the grimdark showrunners of today. “I’m smart and brave and deep because I’m showing a mirror to humanity!! A MIRROR!”
And then here's Kirk, a Classic Hero, coming in and saying, "Yeah, wow, deep, you've determined that your species has a violent history. That's cool and all but have you considered that every single day you can consciously choose to make different, better choices?"
This was a good Kirk ep, a good Spock ep, and a good Scotty ep. It bums me out that he’s seen as comic relief now I guess... as my mom said, Scotty liked a joke but he was never comic relief.
I think it would be interesting to hear more of Spock’s thoughts in this ep, though. He’s the son of an ambassador and his people also had a warlike history that they dealt with in a way different to how humans do. But the method of problem solving of the Enterprise Captain and crew today was very martial, much more about brute force, and strategy as well, than peaceful talking--an overall plan I doubt many Vulcans would like. It would be interesting to hear how he thought of it all to himself.
Anyway, it’s getting late! Next up is a very decidedly good Spock ep, This Side of Paradise. Might be watching it on Wednesday so..not too long to wait!

Tied Together With A Smile | Stiles Stilinski
A/N: Please don’t read this if any of the dark themes trigger you. I love all of you and I really don’t want y’all to. This was previously posted on my main @beemysunshinex .
Pairing: Stiles Stilinski x Reader x Appearance from Scott McCall
Word Count: 1.9k+
Warning(s): some fluff, angst, swearing, comforting!stiles, insecure and depressed reader, mentions of self-harm, mention of cheating bastard.
“Please pick up, Stiles..” I whisper under my breath while holding the phone to my ear. I wipe my nose with the sleeve of my sweater and the phone rings a couple more times but then goes to voicemail. I hang up and put my face in my hands. I let the tears run down my cheeks because honestly, I didn’t know what else to do. I knew getting in a relationship again was a bad idea but my friends coaxed me into giving him a chance. Why was I so fucking stupid for trusting him?
My phone starts to ring and I jump at the sudden vibration in my lap. I look down at my phone and saw Stiles picture pop up on the screen. I click the accept button and put the call on speaker.
“Hey, Stiles…” I said sniffling.
“Hey, Y/N/N, you alright? You seem upset…” He said worriedly. I sighed and started to tear up again.
“Are you busy r-right now?” My voice falters and I just let my tears fall because he’ll eventually find out anyway.
“I’m on my way, I’ll be there in 5.” He says quickly and hangs up.
I get up from my bedroom floor and walk to the kitchen. I stop in the hallway and wipe my eyes so hopefully, he doesn’t notice that I was crying just a few seconds ago. I enter the kitchen and see my dad, sitting on a stool at the island with a cola in his hand. I sit down across from him and he looks up at me, furrowing his eyebrows.
“What’s wrong Y/N/N?” He tilts his head while setting down his cola can on the marble counter. I sigh and run my finger through my hair. I try my best not to show that I was upset or heartbroken because he already has enough on his plate.
“Stiles is coming over to talk to me and help me with a project I’m struggling with…” I lie. I look at my dad trying to get him to believe me. He has a way of figuring out when I’m lying. He squints his eyes a bit but nods. I mentally sighed in relief. “We are going to be on the porch, which means I need to go get my textbook out of my car. I’ll be right back.” I get up from the stool and grab my keys from the hanger by the front door. As I was about to walk out the front door, my dad grabs my arm gently and pulls me into a hug.
“I’m here to talk if you need me Y/N/N...whatever you’re going through it’s going to get better.” He hugs me for a minute and let’s go of me. I give him a small smile and a nod. Just then I hear a vehicle pull into our driveway, I look out the screen door and sure enough, there is Stiles already halfway up our driveway. I walk out and my dad is right behind me.
“Hey, Stiles!” my dad calls to him as he is getting in his police cruiser. Stiles waves and smiles at him. I turn and sit down on one of the porch chairs while watching my dad turn on his radio. Stiles walks up the porch steps and sits down next to me in a white rocking chair. I wait until my dad is out of the driveway and halfway down the road before I break down again. I let all my emotions come out. Stiles was in front of me in seconds making the rocking chair rock back and forth so hard it was hitting the siding of the house. I cover my face but he removed them seconds later, making me look at him.
“Y/N/N, what happened?” He says softly, still holding my hands in his. The memory comes back in flashes and I shake my head, trying to remove the scene in my head.
“He cheated on me, Stiles…” My voice trails away back into the scene in my mind. Stiles makes a noise between a growl and a sigh. He wipes my tears away with the sleeve of his navy blue jacket.
“Scott and I had a bad feeling about him from the start, but we didn’t tell you because you looked happy and cheerful, that’s something we haven’t seen in a while since your mom passed. We just wanted you to be happy.” He pulls me into his arms and holds me. I wrap my arms around his torso and bury my face into the crook of his neck.
“He cheated on me with some girl in the same Biology class as us. I don’t remember her name…” I sniffled and Stiles started rubbing my back. He smooths down my hair and leans his head against the side of mine.
“How did you find out, Y/N?” He pulls away and looks into my eyes. I take a shaky breath and sigh.
“I walked in on them, you know..” I lowered my gaze to my hands, thinking back to seeing her on her knees in front of Dylan, naked and his pants pulled down to his ankles. A few tears escape down my face. Stiles face turns a crimson red and his eyes get darker.
“He is a dead man.” He looks at you once again and some of the anger subsides but is still enraged. My tears start to slow down and my mind is going in 50 different places. I look up at Stiles and he is texting someone, most likely Scott, telling him to get his ass over at my place.
“You texting Scott?” I said softly, my nerves calming down. I pull my sweater sleeves over my hands and sniffle. Stiles looks up from me and nods. The anger in his face disappeared but the disappointment set in. Stiles really wanted you to find happiness because you deserved it and he knew that. I get up from the chair, heading towards the front door about to get some water until I heard a Mustang drive into my driveway. Stiles stands up and is glaring at the car that just pulled in. Scott pulls in just after the Mustang and Stiles stands in front of me, as Dylan gets out of his car. Scott slams his car door and walks up to Dylan, ready for a fight. Dylan was standing his ground when him and Scott got in his face.
“What makes you think you can just go sleep with some random girl while dating Y/N!? Are you fucking kidding me?” That is when I decided to intervene because I knew if I didn’t then it will end very badly.
“Dylan, you need to leave right now!” I stood next to Stiles, holding onto his jacket so he doesn’t go charging after Dylan. “Scott! Back down!” I yelled at both of the boys.
“Y/N, he deserves his face beat into the concrete!” He was looking at me in disbelief but I motioned him to come here. Scott backs up first and walks up to the porch where Stiles and I am.
“You heard her! Leave! You fucking prick!” Stiles yelled, his face going back to that color, crimson red. His fists were balled up, waiting for me to let him go. I pull Stiles inside the house and I have Scott come in too. Dylan yells after us but I slam the door before he could say anymore.
“You two need to calm down, I know he cheated on me but you two do not need to be getting in fights outside of my house! My dad would kill both of you and then me!” I plopped down on the couch and ran my hand through my hair. I hear Scott get into the fridge and then sit down next to me along with Stiles sitting on my left side of me.
“How are you handling this better than we are?” Scott says and looks at me curiously. I shrugged and thought about it for a second.
“Honestly, I don’t know but what I do know is that I appreciate both of you coming to comfort me and help me through it. Oh and willing to kick a guys ass for me. That was really sweet…” I smile and side glance at Scott and then at Stiles.
“You know, I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic right now or if you’re being honest..” Scott chuckles and Stiles chimes in laughing also. I roll my eyes and smile.
“I’m being honest. That was very sweet of you two to want to protect me and I really appreciate that from you. It made me feel like I wasn’t alone.” I sigh and take a sip of my cola that I left on the coffee table earlier.
~little while later~
“Well I have to get home or my mother will have my head…literally.” Scott sighs and stands up. I nod and give him a hug. “Call me if you need anything, Y/N/N. Okay?” I nod and smile at him. Stiles sits up and looks at me. I raise an eyebrow at him and I sit down slowly.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” He pulls me close to him and holds me.
“Stiles? What is going on?” I pull away and look at him. I furrow my eyebrows, trying to figure out what he is doing.
“Y/N/N, I saw your arm when your sleeve was raised a little bit. I just want to make you feel loved because you are. I don’t want you to ever think you’re alone. You’re an amazing girl and you deserve someone who is going to treat you right and I hope maybe you find him or her soon.” He smiles softly at me and lifts my sleeve, exposing the scratches on my forearm. He gets up and gets the first aid kit from under the kitchen sink. He comes back and has it already open getting band-aids and some triple-antibiotic.
“I love you, Stiles.” I blurt out, instantly my face turning red. He smiles and looks at me.
“Wow. That took you long enough to figure out.” He chuckles. I playfully punch his arm and smile.
“Oh, shut up Stiles, it probably took Scott smacking you up the back of your head for you to realize you didn’t actually like Lydia…” I rolled my eyes and turned my head to the tv. I could see him smirking out of the corner of my eye.
“Well, now that you have that prick out of your life...want to go to the movies?” He said nonchalantly. I give him my arm for him to clean and put bandages on, I smile at him.
“Wow. Already trying to get a date with me.” I laugh and he glares at me, then smirks. He smears the triple-antibiotic on my forearm gently and placing band-aids on my arm.
“You’re the one who said I love you first..you can’t just blurt that out and then expect the guy not to ask you out…it doesn’t work like that.” He grins.
“Whatever, Stiles…” I smirk.
“So is that a yes…?” He wiggles his eyebrows at me and I let out a small giggle and nod. “By the way, I love you too.”

best scene featuring your muse? (chapter, film, episode)
Cassie: I’m hesitating between two so I’ll mention them both: in MK11, after she’s defeated Sonya at the beginning and she hugs Johnny – it’s not just her, it’s the pride in both her parents at the way she matured so much in the past few years. You can tell she worked really hard to get where she is. The other is actually from MKX, funny enough, and it’s when Cassie goes at Kung Jin and says: “You want to take this opportunity to tell us what the fuckshit you were thinking?! “ Idk, I just love that bit a lot. Fujin: I’m gonna have to go with the now classic scene between he and Jax, not just because it showed how connected he is to others, like Jax, but also because we got a glimpse of his backstory and his relationship with Raiden. It’s probably THE most important scene for him to me. Raiden: Raiden didn’t exactly do much for me in MK11, oddly enough (I enjoyed him in it, but he didn’t have many key moments), so it’s actually the scene in MKX where he speaks to a younger Kung Jin stealing the statue. It’s very deep, and it shows how compassionate and understanding Raiden can sometimes be when the time calls for it. Sindel: The scene after she returns from being a revenant in MK11. It is literally the Sindel we’ve come to know and love. Just the way she searches for Kitana, how she addresses Sheeva with such respect. I loved that. Hanzo: In MK11, when he fights his younger self and he mentions how it is not his clan that keeps him going but his wife and child instead, and how he manages to be level headed enough to turn his younger much more stubborn self around. It showed how much Hanzo has matured over time compared to how he was not just as his younger self but how he was in MKX. I also really liked most of his scenes in the animated movie tbh. So I can’t really choose just one there.
what does your name mean?
I went through a few names on Tumblr. Jess, which is my name basically, but there’s a LOT of Jess’s in the rpc. Then I went by V. for a while, short for VortexQueen. But then a group of friends and I got into Critical Role, and my favorite character became, ofc, Jester (and also apparently I’m a lot like her according to them? Lol ) so it stuck, and for a while we all had Critical Role names. While for some it changed overtime, mine remained, and Jester carried through to this day.
share a funny story
Wow I suck at those, I can never think of one. Okay maybe this one: so the first time I ever got high months ago, it hit me pretty hard but in a good way. My hubby was with me to supervise and make sure I was okay, and we stayed in the bedroom the whole time. At some point he asked me to close the curtains since it was getting dark, which I did, but forgot to open the light so it got super dark. I shit you not, it took me 10 mins to get from the curtain to the lamp (a whole 5 feet) because I thought it was too far away, and I kept saying “WHY’S IT SO FAR?” while hubby laughed like a loon. Like, I couldn’t make normal steps. And instead of just re-opening the curtains, opening the light, close the curtain again, I tried to do everything in the dark feeling like I was walking down a whole, long hallway. Also I couldn’t stop laughing for three hours.
list your top two movies
Admittedly I don’t watch a lot of movies because… honestly? I have the attention span of a gold fish and get distracted super easily, or remember I gotta do something and pause the movie for it and don’t come back to it for hours. But, I suppose I do have a couple of older movies I indulge in once in a while.
Atomic Blonde 47 Ronin Those would be my two go two movies rn.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart trailer analysis
For those that haven’t heard yet, Insomniac Games has released a trailer for there new Ratchet & Clank game yesterday, called Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
I don’t think I need to say how excited I am for it but I’m going to anyway. IM SO EXCITED FOR THIS GAME ! For those that haven’t heard about it yet, here is a link to a video showing the trailer for the game as well as gameplay of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsnG-3-r6-Q
The game looked so amazing that I did na analysis of the trailer last night and thought Id post it on my Tumblr page for anyone to read. HUGES spoilers ahead. Also I apologize or the spacing as for some reason I can't separate the paragraphs any longer then they are now.
First is the trailer
First off we get a shot of the amazing animation of the game till Ratchet & Clank drop in, literally, but did they just come out of a dimensional rift ? This has to mean the Dimensionator has to be involved in this somehow. We then see another amazing example of the games design and graphics of what looks like planet Sargasso (which would be cool to go to again) till Clank brings up how they need to get to something, the Dimensionator maybe ?, till he is distracted by an Antropod/Terratrope followed by another rift releasing robots shooting at them and though I’ve seen the trailer already, I quickly got a Dr. Nefarious vibe from them.
Then something unexpected happens as Ratchet RIDES the bug and uses it to take down the robots ! Now I haven’t played Spyro in years but that charging attack reminds me a bit of the charge attack Spyro uses in the games, did anyone else think that? If that was on purpose then its nice to see that Insomniac Games still remembers there roots which gives me comfort with them making awesome Spider Man games in the future without worrying about them ignoring there Ratchet & Clank fans.
After some animal handling gameplay, Ratchet and Clank are thrown into a rift and we see a series of shattered pink/purple glass images of places only for them to quickly grind and slide though two planets, maybe existing ones at the night one kinda looks like Veldin while the city one could be Metropolis or Meridian City, with Clank saying the dimensions are weakening which again backs up the idea of the Dimesinator being involved. I do want to say that during the quick grind rail segment, the Grind Boots looked much better in design compared to there previous appearances, which were kinda lazy in my opinion. I hope this means they and the Gravity Boots will be different in appearance instead of in color. I should also say it shown that you can DOUBLE JUMP while grinding, which is a cool small change for the iconic mechanic.
We then see Ratchet ride another animal, this time with wings, on planet Torren IV which though I’m not 100% sure I think I saw a Hoverboot boost pad. Could the Hoverboots be in the game ? Before I continue I want to say the idea of Ratchet riding and controlling animals is a really awesome idea, not only would this be an interesting twist to combat in the game but it would also be another interesting way to travel throughout the levels, which Id be ok with doing IF the Hoverboots aren’t in Rift Apart.
Either way this ends quickly as Ratchet & Clank hop to another planet, a new one according to them but again teleport to planet Ardolis where Ratchet fights robot pirates (AWESOME) who are dealing with a creature. I wonder if Captain Slag and Rusty Pete will be in the game ? During a fight we see Ratchet uses a new weapons, specifically a new BLASTER like weapon that has a rapid-fire feature, which I am thankful for cause I couldn’t take another game with the Combuster.
The fight quickly ends as the explosive barrel explodes and Clank gets thrown through a dimensional rift and is separated from Ratchet, NO ! but also AWESOME cause it gives a A Crack In Time like vibe. The hype is then taken up a notch where its revealed that Clank is on a planet run by none other then DR. NEFARIOUS, Clank saying they are to late, meaning those robots at the beginning WERE his and he is somehow causing all of this, maybe.
Speaking of which Im not sure how I feel about Dr. Nefarious being the main antagonist of ANOTHER game. Don't get me wrong he's still an awesome character but it would also be nice to face a new villain for a change, plus it makes me nervous that this could mean Nefarious could be defeated once and for all which could ruin a big part of the story of the R&C trilogy finale I made some time ago.
HOWEVER I think we can all agree that the biggest thing about this trailer is that while Clank is calling for Ratchet a blue and gray/white colored female Lombax with a robotic arm appears wondering who Clank is talking about, which again gives off A Crack In Time like vibes and…..she’s carrying a hammer ? A bit odd since Lombaxes are affiliated with wrenches but its still an amazing idea. Then we get the name of the game which though I hate to say, the text makes it looks a bit bad as its looks poorly rendered especially at the "and" section and what’s that thing between the words Rift and Apart ? Is that a dimensional rift ?
Other then that the trailer is amazing.
Now for the gameplay
So Marcus Smith does confirm some things about Rift Apart like how this will be a full length game and how those things teleporting Ratchet & Clank were dimensional rifts that will allow them to teleport form planet to planet which though cool its goanna be a bit sad not being able to use Aphelion in the game, I wish she could have more speaking roles in games as she IS one of the last few things from the Lombaxes.
He also says that the new graphic allows them to put something called ray trace reflections on Clank, which along with some other people I’ve seen, I agree makes him look really odd. Hopefully before the game comes out they fix this by toning it down and maybe add a bit of white in there like his older appearances. He then says that the planets are denser with new creatures and that Ratchet has a new arsenal, which sounds perfect to me. He then states that R&C is close to the company’s hearts and can’t wait to show more of it, which again gives comfort.
We get to the gameplay and immediately were introduced to a new mechanic where Ratchet uses a gadget called the Rift Tether to go through a yellow rift similar to that scene in Avenger: Infinity Wars where (spoilers) Thanos uses the stones to pull Dr. Strange closer to him, pulling the area around him towards him in the process. We then see Ratchet fight a Thug for Less enemy, which is cool but not surprising since there were many signs that this game would make references to there other games and this is confirmed seconds later where we see Ratchet fight some Sandsharks. We also get to see several new species of aliens here.
During the Sandshark section we do see a NEW comet strike as unlike in previous games the Omniwrench is thrown diagonally and it looks like it returns to your hand faster. I feel like this change was done for the new female Lombax as I feel like she can do the same thing but since her melee weapon is a a hammer, it wouldn’t really work (or make since) if thrown horizontally, and it would be confusing to have two character with two different ways of throwing there melee weapon. Though I’m not that big a fan of changes I don’t really mind it, heck maybe its a one time thing.
After some more chaos like a giant tentacle creature coming out of the portal, similar to the one in the trailer, and what looks like an Ultra-Mech Unlimited crashing through a walkway Ratchet and Clank were in we get some interesting content in the next cut. One is Ratchet saying something about “break reality” again telling reality is coming apart because of theses rifts, quickly followed by Clank saying Dr. Nefarious has come out of hiding after years of hiding to take over the universe again which means that this IS a post Into The Nexus game, as I’ve seen some people debate about if it is or not.
We get another new game mechanic during the fight with some thugs. It seems that Ratchet can now jump to his left or right in order to avoid incoming damage by using a thruster on his boots, could this mean the Hoverboots are really in the game but are damaged ? It would be cool if during the game Ratchet & Clank or Ratchet goes to Azimuths house on Torren IV to find something about the Dimensionator but also find a part needed to fix his hoverboots thus letting Ratchet use them to get around, especially if the part of the trailer of Ratchet and Clank getting separated IS true.
Were also introduced to new weapons here. One is called a Shatterbomb, the bomb glove weapon, The Enforcer a shotgun like weapon and the Burst Pistol which is the blaster shown in the trailer and would explain its rapid fire ability. The most interesting weapon shown so far is the Topiary Sprinkler, a weapon that when thrown forms into a sprinkler that can project plants around it and shoots out a stream of water that can stop enemies in there place, plus I bet the plants around it is a form of defense system to protect the sprinkler for a time.
The gameplay ends with Ratchet destroying some Robomutts and going though a hallway where a statue of Dr. Nefarious or a mech in his image can be seen but also there is a moment where a purple energy ways rushes through the surrounding areas, just like in another R&C game but that’s for another post, no spoilers now.
Wow that was a lot to write but that’s because there was SO MUCH going on in theses trailers and I’m pretty sure I missed some things. I’m already working on a theory on what’s going to happen in this game, which will most likely come out during the weekend so stay tuned for that.
What were your thoughts on the trailers ? What was your favorite moment in them, and did you noticed anything in them I didn’t talked about ?

PART 1 ~ PART 2 ~ MASTERLIST
~~~
Y/N walked towards the large platform in the middle of the room with the remaining of the Avengers, all in their rather cool looking matching time heist suits. She had to admit that she felt pretty badass, walking alongside the world’s mightiest heroes, going off to save the world like it was any other Tuesday for them.
After the young girl found out the formula of time travel and showed it to Tony, they had created a steady device and explained the idea to the team, which everyone quickly agreed with. They had been split up into three teams to go back in time and gather all six infinity stones before Thanos could find or use them. The teams were split up into Natasha, Clint, Nebula and Rhodey to get the soul and power stones, Thor, and Rocket to get the reality stone (or ether I guess), and Scott, Bruce, Tony, Steve and Y/N to get the Time, Mind, and Space stones.
The team now stood on the platform, putting their hands together as Steve performed his motivational speech, Y/N clung onto every word, still shocked that she got to suit up with them, and also a bit nervous. But she knew that she had the proper training if it came to it and if worse comes to worst, she has a quick solution handy in her pocket, one that she’s been carrying around for years.
“One round trip each. No mistakes, no do-overs,” Cap spoke as he looked around at everyone in the circle. “Most of us are going to a place we know; that doesn’t mean we should know what to expect. Be careful, look out for each other.” Y/N looked beside her up at Tony, who smiled reassuringly at her. “This is the fight of our lives, and we’re gonna win. Whatever it takes.” Steve finished his speech as they separated hands. Y/N looked over at Nat and gave her a smile, to which she returned.
“See you in a minute,” she says winking over at her mentee. She rolled her eyes but laughed. Suddenly the machine above them started to whir and spin around, and the mask on Y/N’s suit came up to cover her face. She felt her breathing start to go heavy but soon relaxed as Tony gave her hand a squeeze. She felt her body being compressed down into the size of an atom and swept away into the quantum realm, trying to control herself and following the lead of Tony just in front of her.
Before she knew it her feet hit the ground below her and her knees buckled from underneath her. As she regained her balance and looked up, her eyes went wide as she took in the scene in front of her. Just a few feet away, she saw the original Avengers, formed in a circle and gearing up for the infamous battle of 2012 against Loki. Y/N almost let out a squeal, remembering watching them do their work on the news when she was younger.
“You alright there?” Tony asked as he gave the girl a teasing smile. “You look like you’re about to explode.” Y/N shook her head but smiled back.
“Yeah I just, wow I was such a fan of you guys when I was younger,” she said as she watched on as they parted ways and did their own thing to take down as many aliens as possible. She then looked back up at Tony and smirked, one that reminded him of himself. “You guys were so much cooler back then. Now you’re all like, big old grampa’s.”
“Woah!” Tony said, giving her a playful look of pain as he grabbed his heart as if she had stabbed him with her comment. “Ouch, you know I understand why you would say that for Cap, cause he’s literally like, 100 years old but for me?”
“Guys we have to focus here,” Bruce caught their attention before Y/N could come back with another snarky comeback. “God sometimes I wonder how the two of you arent’s related, you’re like the same person nowadays.” Tony rolled his eyes, looking back out onto the street.
Before they could try and cross the street to get to the Stark Tower, a giant and raging green Hulk came down from the ground, pounding robots into the ground and flinging them around like ragdolls. As the group looked back at Bruce he covered his face, embarrassed of what he used to be. Steve told Bruce and Scott to find Dr. Strange and the time stone while he, Tony, and Y/N went up to the Stark tower to get the mind and space stone. As they got in and saw the past Avengers, Steve departed to get Loki’s staff, containing the mind stone, while Tony and Y/N worked on getting the Tesseract.
Y/N hid out in a small conference room out of sight, since Tony didn’t want her directly participating in the mission, much to her demise. She opened her laptop, which she disguised as a briefcase. She quickly typed in the password before pulling up multiple programs on the small screen, including a camera view from Tony’s glasses and a controller for a small robotic device she’d use to slip around without being realized.
“You sure this is gonna work, kid?” Tony asked quietly through the comm, causing Y/N to roll her eyes.
“Yes, Tony. I’ve been working on this model forever, I know what I’m doing,” she sassed back, looking through a small camera on the spider-shaped device she originally created with Peter. “Just remember I’m the reason we’re all here. I’m not just a pretty face, Stark.”
“Yeah yeah,” he mumbled as he watched his past self pack up the Tesseract in a briefcase. “Ok, spider-girl, release your little spiderling.” He says dramatically as the spider crawls from his pocket and makes its way onto the roof. Y/N chuckled at the nickname before focusing on controlling the spider-robot, the decoy lowering itself onto past Tony’s shoulder without anyone noticing. She couldn’t help but let out a little squeal at her excellent work. She watched through the small cam as the Avengers (excluding Hulk, who was told to take the stairs) made their way into the foyer of the building.
Tony watched along as his past self walks along with the other original Avengers and Loki. Alexander Pierce and his crew walked towards them as present-day Tony gave Y/N the signal to drop down. Y/N dropped the spider drone into Tony’s beard and then down onto his chest, the almost microscopic robot slipping through and into his arc reactor. She explores for a while until she finds what Tony had told her would cause the distraction.
“Is this really a good idea, Stark?” Y/N asked worriedly, not thinking of the consequences until then.
“Yeah, sure. It’ll only cause me to go into a tiny cardiac distract,” Tony stated casually, and Y/N’s eyes widened immediately, stopping the robot.
“What?!” She says, shaking her head. “Okay, no. No no no no no. I’m not gonna do this, we can figure out something else it’ll be fine.”
“Y/N, hey, calm down,” Tony says, his voice going lower. “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. I mean I’m still here, so that’s gotta mean something right? If I died I wouldn’t be here.” Y/N scoffed at his words, but still, her hands were shaking, not wanting to hurt someone she had gotten so close to. She couldn’t bear if anything happened to him.
“No shit, Sherlock,” she whispers back into the comm, but loud enough for him to hear it. He rolled his eyes and continued to watch as Pierce tried to snatch the case away from his hands. “Time’s running out, Y/N. Pull my pin!”
“Okay, okay, give me a second.” She said as she maneuvered the tiny device to the said area with a small pin that helped keep everything in the arc reactor together. “But if you die, Tony, it’ll be your funeral. Literally.” She comments back to try and defuse the tension she felt. He quietly gave her another reassurance before giving the signal. With the small metal pinchers, Y/N pulled the cord in the arc reactor and through the other camera through Tony’s glasses she saw past Tony fall to the floor just as Pierce was taking the case containing the Tesseract from his hands.
The metal case fell to the floor with a hard clank and 2012 Tony followed soon after it, shaking slightly on the floor. Pierce and his crew members, as well as the other Avengers there, kneeled down beside him and tried to figure out what was wrong.
The small metallic robot climbed out from Tony’s reactor and pushed the case over to Tony, who was disguised as a staff of security. He discreetly picked it up and began walking away from the scene as medics began rushing to help the famous billionaire on the floor. What they didn’t know was that they weren’t as discreet as they thought.
“Good job, kid. Meet me in the alley, I’m gonna-” but was cut off as a big green angry hulk burst through the door, knocking down Tony and flinging the tesseract out of its case and down the hallway. The bright blue square landed right at the feet of Loki, who looked down and quickly picked it up, using its powers to teleport him out of the tower as people were too distracted running in terror.
Thor tapped his hammer against Tony’s chest, causing him to stop shaking and blink frantically, looking at his surroundings. “Where’s the case?” Y/N heard him ask. Her face dropped as she moved to drone to look all around the room, finding no clue where the Tesseract or Loki himself was.
“Fuck this,” she mumbled, working her computers to try and get into the security tapes, looking for what might’ve happened to either of them. “That wasn’t supposed to happen, was it?"
Tony sat himself up on his elbows looking around to see people screaming and running away from the Hulk, who was screaming about no stairs, and to his other side, officers looking for Loki and the Tesseract. “Shit.”
Y/N quickly packed up her computers and put them back into her bag, running out to meet Tony at the alleyway where they had come in. She found an abandoned car parked beside it and saw Tony already sitting in its head in his hand as he observed the destruction outside.
“What the hell happened, Stark?” She said as she got into the back seat. “We had the Tesseract, where did it go?” Tony sighed, closing his eyes as he responded, trying to keep calm.
“I don’t know what happened, Y/N,” he said tensely. “I know we had it but now we don’t, okay? Something happened, I don’t know what.”
“Well, you better fucking figure it out!” She yelled, her ears going red as she got more angry by him not seeming to care. “Did you not hear what Cap said? No do-overs! We fucked up so what are we gonna do now!”
“I don’t know what we’re gonna do!” He screamed back turning to face her. He sighed, running a hand down his face and closed his eyes. He stayed silent for a bit, using the silence to calm himself down. He knew she was only acting like this because she was scared. And honestly, he was too. “But we’ll figure something out. I promise. Everything will be okay.”
Y/N gulped to hold back her screaming, not wanting to rant to him about every little thing that had already gone wrong, and how she was starting to lose hope. Then Cap jumped down from a balcony, one hand propping up the shield while the other gripped Loki’s staff.
“Cap,” Tony caught his attention. Steve saw them in the dirt-covered car as he walked towards them. “We’ve got a bit of a problem here.” Y/N scoffed, shaking her head as she let her stress get the better of her again.
“A bit of a problem?” She asked sarcastically. “More like we’re in deep shit!” She said getting out of the car and slamming the door shut with surprising force. Tony rolled his eyes. Steve looked between the two, his eyebrows scrunching up in confusion.
“What happened?” he asked, looking at Y/N. She laughed ironically, starting to pace along the alleyway.
“We lost the goddamn Tesseract is what happened!” She said as she aggressively kicked a piece of debris on the ground. “It’s gone and now the plan isn’t gonna work. We don’t have enough Pym particles to go back again. It’s over, we’re done.” She leaned down and sat against the wall, leaning her head back.
“Are there any other options with the Tesseract,” Steve asked, causing Y/N to roll her eyes at his always enthusiastic goody-two-shoes energy.
“No. No there’s not,” she said annoyed as she stood up and walking over to him. “You said it yourself, there are no do-overs. If we use that last Pym particle, we’re never getting home.”
“Well, if we don’t try, no one else is going home either,” he stated. Y/N sighed, squeezing her eyes shut as she leaned against the car. She knew he was right. But what was the use of going back again to get the stone if they couldn’t get back in the present to put it in the gauntlet?
“I got it,” Tony said suddenly, getting out of the car. Y/N’s head shot up as she stood up and followed him as he got out of the car himself. “There’s another way to get the Tesseract and acquire new particles. We’ll take a stroll down memory lane. Military installation Garden State.”
“Why were they both there?” Steve asked, causing Y/N to look between the two as they continued their conversation. Tony shrugged.
“They were both there for a…” he trailed off as he thought. “I have a vaguely exact idea,” he defended himself. Cap gave him a look, the same one he gave Y/N when he caught her doing something she shouldn’t have around the compound or when she sasses one of the other team members a bit too much.
“How vague,” he asked.
“Woah, okay, what’s going on?” Y/ finally butted in. “What are you guys talking about? Where are we going?” She asked eagerly as they started entering in the time date and coordinates.
“Correction, we’re going. You’re travelling back to the present to give this to the others,” Tony said as he handed her Loki’s staff. Her eyes bulged out as she stood up straighter.
“Tony, I can help. I’m not letting you guys go alone, I’m coming with you,” she stated strongly as she put her suit up. Tony shook his head.
"I trust you with this, kid, okay? get back to home base, we’ll be there by the time you get back.” He said as he and Steve put up their own suits. He took her hand and entered in the present-day coordinates to get back home as she looked at him like he was crazy, which she currently felt he was.
“What?! But Tony-!” She started, but before Y/N could argue, she felt the ground sweep from under her feet and she was being sent back to the present day, Loki’s staff still held tightly in her hand.
As she regained her balance, she looked around the room, seeing that everyone had their respective stone’s, including Tony with the Tesseract. But something seemed off. She did another swift headcount of everyone and realized someone had to be missing.
“Where’s Nat?” She asked, looking around at everyone’s confused faces before looking at Clint, whose eyes were red and glassy. She watched as he looked up at her, shaking his head slightly as a fresh tear rolled down his face. Y/N felt her chest tighten as her mouth opened slightly, letting out a shuttering breath. She knew that face, she wore the same expression five years ago.
She felt tears well up into her eyes, not even thinking of losing a mentor, someone she considered family during the process of getting those who were snapped away back. She felt tears starting to form in her own eyes as regret and sadness took over the whole team.
~~~
The team had taken a quick break to take a moment to mourn their friend, to some even their family. It was odd to not have Natasha around, making small sarcastic quips at any person in the room when you’d least expect it. Y/N quickly splashed her face with water, making the tears on her face earlier vanish as she went back into the room where Tony had just completed the infinity gauntlet 2.0 and everyone was arguing over who should snap their fingers.
“What do you think is coursing through my veins right now?” She heard as she exited the ladies bathroom just beside the room. She leaned against the doorframe as she answered.
“Cheez Whiz?” she asked sarcastically as she came up to stand in between the god and Tony. Thor looked down, confusion on his face as he pointed at her and she, in return, gave him a sly smile.
“Lightning,” he emphasized. Y/N sucked in a breath and averted her gaze as he looked expectantly at Tony, who let out a sigh as he pinched his eyebrows together in concentration.
“Lightning won’t help you, pal. It’s gotta be me,” she heard Bruce say from behind her as he walked to the group. She listened intently as he continued. “You saw what those stones did to Thanos; it almost killed him. None of you would survive.”
“Well, how will we know if you will?” Cap said seriously. Y/N looked at Tony, who looked down at her and gave her a knowing glance, that showed he knew it was true. Y/N nodded slightly as Bruce continued.
“We don’t. But the radiation is mostly gamma. It’s… it’s like I was made for this.” The team looked around before Tony stepped out and started explaining the rules of the stones.
“Remember, everyone Thanos snapped away five years ago, we’re just bringing them back to now. Don’t change anything from the past five years,” he said and Bruce nodded, looking at his arm which he prepared to hold the gauntlet in.
The team around him suited up. Y/N felt the cool nanotech of her newly modelled suit slide over her skin, occasionally catching a thin hair. The spiderman-inspired outfit was of the colours white, black, and magenta, with fine reflective webbing details along the side of her arms, legs and torso. She stood behind Tony as he created a protective shield in front of them and Clint on the other side of him.
Metallic barn doors shut around all doors and windows in the room and around the compound. Bruce put on the glove holding the infinity stones and immediately began to scream in pain, doubling down to the ground as he struggled to push his fingers together to snap.
“Take it off! Take it off!” Thor said as he stepped towards Banner, who was still struggling to stay upright. Steve held out his hand to Thor as a sign to stop.
“No, wait! Bruce, are you okay?” Steve asked as he looked at the green giant. Bruce continued to moan but nodded slightly. Y/N stood back further as she heard Banner scream loudly and saw his fingers coming closer together and finally the sound of the metal hitting metal in the snap.
There was a surge of power that almost knocked her over, stumbling to catch her balance. She heard a loud thump as Bruce’s body finally collided with the floor, unconscious. Many people ran towards him to help but Y/N just looked around. She felt her feet carry her to the window as they opened again, seeing birds chirping happily outside.
“D-did it work?” Y/N mumbled as the mask of her suit disappeared from around her face. Everyone turned to look at where she was, seeing multiple new birds coming into sight, planting themselves on a nearby sapling. A phone started to ring, and Clint walked over to his cell vibrating on the glass table, a picture of his beloved wife displayed on the screen. He picked it up and started talking to her.
Tony walked over to Y/N, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder, bringing her attention over to him. He wore a giant smile and even looked like he was in tears. He squeezed her shoulder as she let out a gasp, hand covering her mouth as the biggest smile spread across her soft features. She laughed softly, in disbelief but so happy. Tony matched her actions and pulled her into the biggest hug, and she felt comfortable as she placed her head on his chest.
“We did it, kid,” he mumbled into her messy hair, feeling her locks dampen with his tears. “We finally did it. They’re back.” Y/N laughed again into his suit as she pulled him closer and hugged him tighter, closing her eyes as she felt true relief finally wash over her entire being. But of course, that wouldn’t last for long.
Next thing she knew she was being flung across the compound while a missile hit just outside the window. She felt herself fly through multiple layers of brick and glass, piercing her skin and knocking the breath from her lungs. She coughed heavily as the dust from the rubble entered her system, trying to balance herself enough to stand up and analyze the situation.
“Tony?!” She screamed, looking for the older man that she was just in contact with. “Tony?! Cap?! Thor?!” She screamed any name that came to mind, hoping for someone to hear her, and possibly give her an explanation. She was limping, pain shooting through her ankle whenever she out the slightest pressure on it. It was definitely broken. She felt the metallic taste of blood entering her mouth, and she was scared to say she didn’t know where it came from, her now bleeding nose or the small cuts that littered her cheeks and lips.
“Y/N?” She heard a voice say and sighed with relief. From the dust came Clint, holding something in his arms, the Infinity Gauntlet. “Hey, I got you, you’re okay,” He reassures her as he puts an arm across her back and under her arms, supporting her weight so she can walk. “Tony, I’m with the kid, she seems okay.”
“Is he okay?” she asked quietly when Clint found a safe spot. He looked at her and nodded.
“yeah he’s fine, but almost had a heart attack when he couldn’t find you,” he says, offering her a smile before his face went stoic again. “But he’s here. Thanos. He found us.” Y/N’s eyes went wide, her eyebrows furrowing into a line of confusion. She blinked a couple of times as she processed the new information.
“What? But– but Thanos i-is dead? He’s dead! You said he was dead!” She screams as she feels her heart rate quicken, her breath refusing to meet her lips as if it was stuck inside her throat. Clint reached down and held her hand, rubbing his thumb against the back of her hands as a calming method he has seen Tony use on her before.
“I know, I thought he was gone too,” he whispered, looking back at the dark tunnel before turning back to her. “But this is a different Thanos, he followed us from the past.” Y/N felt her throat close up, dark thoughts filling her mind. Fuck. This was all her fault.
There was a sound that came from down the tunnel, almost like a snarl. The pair went quiet, looking towards the source. Clint slowly took out an arrow from the collection he kept on his back, placing it in his bow and shooting it straight down the line, the end glowing up– revealing about ten or twelve alien-looking dogs. Y/N let out a breath as the two scurried to get up. Clint held up her weight as they ran, eventually settling to pick her up as he ran from the dogs.
As they came to a split in the road, Clint threw her to a different path, signalling for her to run and hide as he continued to run down the other path, provoking the dogs to follow him and leave her. Y/N limped down the path, using the wall to support her as she hopped along. Soon she came across a mop of messy hair frantically looking around the rubble.
“Tony,” she tried to say but found that her voice was scratchy and weak. “Tony, I’m right here.” The said man turned around the stress on his face leaving as he saw the girl he was looking for. He quickly wrapped an arm around as Clint had earlier and walked her away from the scene.
“God, hey kid. You hanging in there?” He said, checking the area before leading her to a small space of coverage under a piece of rubble that looked like it used to be the floor. She nodded in reassurance before grabbing his arm and pulling him back up.
“I need you to take me to our lab, now,” she said urgently and he obliged, not even thinking of asking why. He directed her to a small metal door attached to a broken piece of wall, typing in a code on the damaged keyboard before pushing the heavy doors open.
She rushed over to her part of the lab, the barely working glass screen table popping up and she quickly punched in a few passwords before looking in a locked drawer for one of the small viles kept safely there. Tony looked from her face to the small tube, confusion painting his face as he watched her pop the lid, hesitating before bringing it to her lips and gulping down the small amount of dark red liquid.
Y/N felt the iron tasting liquid slid down her throat as she swallowed it uncomfortably, immediately feeling the effects. Her eyesight went black and her head started to spin. She went to grab the nearest object her hold herself up, the dizziness and broken ankle not being the best combination. Tony rushed to her side, grabbing her other arm.
“Y/N, what the hell was that,” Tony said, concern laced his voice as he watched the girl groan, squeezing her eyes shut and throwing her head back. She gulped before answering in short breaths.
“That answer may vary between poison and what I like to call a spider-serum,” she replied, sarcasm still in use through her pain. Tony looked at her with bewilderment in his eyes, as this was not a project approved by him or not even one they’ve talked about. She gritted her teeth together, continuing to moan out in pain as she collapsed to the floor, Tony calling out her name.
As Y/N got her self together, she placed both hands on the desk in front of her nailed into the floor, using it to pull herself back on her feet. She felt everything in her body changing, she could hear the blood rushing through her veins, she could smell the smoke from across the battlefield outside the reinforced metal door, she could feel the small hairs on Tony’s arms tickling her own as he tried to shake her out of her trance.
“Y/N! Kid come on, snap out of it. What the hell was that?” He said as he continued to shake her. She was going to bring a hand up to slap his own away but instead found them stuck to the table. As she tried tugging again, the steal table breaking off the floor while still sticking to her hands. Y/N and Tony looked in shock.
Y/N then began to laugh, her eyes wide in disbelief. She widened her hands and the desk fell from her palms, crashing against the floor. “Holy shit,” she whispered as she looked at Tony, who was looking from the now broken table to her. “It worked! Oh god, I can’t believe it actually worked!” She screamed as she jumped up and down and headed towards the door.
“No no no, what the hell was that?!” Tony asked. Y/N rolled her eyes, still smiling as she impatiently grabbing his arm and dragged him outside towards the fight. She smiled at him, a great look of success overgoing her as she showed him the potion she had been perfecting for the last couple of years.
“Well, I took a blood sample of Peter’s and checked it to see what kind of stuff the spider had injected into him,” she said as Tony gave her a weird look. “Don’t ask how I got it, I don’t really know either. But as I analyzed it further, I had an idea to take the sample and separate the effects of the injection, and used it to create a serum that would give me powers similar to Peter’s, using the poison of his spider to create powers of my own.”
Tony looked at her mesmerized, then looked at the stash of dark red vials in the drawer. He lifted his eyebrows and nodded, impressed beyond words of the young girl’s discovery. Then he paused and looked back at her. “Wait, so you technically drank spiderboy’s blood?” He asked suspiciously. Y/N opened her mouth to respond but didn’t quite know how.
“I-” she paused, closing her eyes and shaking her head. “Okay, no, we don’t have time for this conversation right now. There’s a giant purple grape out that waiting to be slain.” Tony nodded and soon the two headed out the door without any further questions, saluting each other before Y/N darted off at an irregularly fast tempo.
She felt the wind blow rapidly against her hair as she ran through the bad guys, dodging hits with swiftness. Of course, she wasn’t fast like Pietro but definitely was faster than she usually was, which proved to be a great advantage while on the battlefield. Y/N saw Tony, Thor and Steve fighting against Thanos in the background as she thwiped out a web and flew into the air, grabbing one of the Chiari and slamming it into another group coming towards her.
She continued to fight when suddenly she felt a tingly sense that made her head shoot towards Steve, watching as he stood up by himself, his shield broken in his hand, as he prepared to single-handedly fight the titan. Y/N ran towards him when she heard a voice in her comm, that definitely wasn’t from anyone on their battlefield.
“On your left…”
She seemed to distantly recognize the voice but couldn’t quite place it. That is until a portal appeared beside Steve, made of orange sparks that she had remembered. There, the king of Wakanda, T'Challa, his younger sister, Shuri she thought her name was, and another girl who was dressed in a warriors uniform and a shaved head, holding a golden spear stood beside the king.
After that, portal after portal began to form around the atmosphere, with more battleships, superheroes and warriors of all kinds of countries and galaxies appearing through them and getting into their battle positions. Y/N smiled proudly before running up to the giant team and taking her place next to the Wakandian princess, lunging down into the iconic spidey stance and getting ready to avenge the rest of the universe. She looked at Steve as he watched everyone take their places among him.
“Avengers…” he starts as he holds out his hand and Mjolner flies into his grip. “Assemble!”
Battle cries and the sound of machines whirring and flying filled the atmosphere as they ran towards the alien army opposite of them. Y/N flicked out her wrist and grabbed onto one of the giants floating motherships and swung low to the ground, knocking out multiple enemies at once. Once she landed on the ground she continued to fist fight them off of her one by one, like Natasha had taught her for so many years.
But as good as she was doing at the moment, it wasn’t hard for her to get overpowered when a bunch jumped on her back at once, knocking her down to the floor, struggling to keep them from ripping out her skin. She tried to push them off, and successfully webbed some to the ground to keep them off of her, but it wasn’t enough to handle them all.
“Hey, watch out!” A boyish voice sounded through her comms as all the aliens were kicked right off of her, giving her a chance to stand up and fight off the rest, her rescuer standing behind her, back to back, as they both slung down the dogs and threw them across the battlefield. Y/N stabbed some with her pincer things Tony put on her back.
Once they were gone, Y/N grabbed the boy behind her and pulled him into a quieter place as she unmasked herself, looking expectantly at the boy. “Peter?” She said, her voice breaking as she looked at the Iron Spider suit, which disappeared from his face, revealing his unruly curls and a just as shocked look on his face.
“Y/N?” He whispered, disbelief in his eyes as she saw a single tear escape his brown orbs and gently slide down his cheek. He looked the same, but at the same time looked more mature, and she was relieved that he had seemed to grow while he was gone, or else the near future situation would be a bit awkward. “W-what are you doing here?” Y/N giggled a bit, feeling her own hot tears sliding down her dirt and blood covered cheek as her delicate hand went up to grab his own, wiping his tears.
“I came to save you, dummy,” she joked. Peter smiled at her, placing his hands on her waist. Although it wasn’t as long for Peter in the soul stone as it was for Y/N while on Earth since he was in a coma-like state pretty much the whole time, he had missed her honey-coated voice and sickly sweet smile. He had waited too long for this.
They watched each other for a little longer, analyzing the small details that had changed around their faces since the years passed before Peter leaned down and attached their lips together for a very long-awaited kiss. Y/N squeezed her eyes shut as her hands trailed back to rest on the back of his neck, playing with the small hairs at the nape of his neck as she felt the cold metal of his suit brush against her fingertips.
As they parted, he leaned down and pressed his forehead to hers, her sweat mixing with his as they kept their eyes closed and smiled at the feeling. Even though they were in the middle of a war, Y/N has never felt more at peace than that moment while she was in his arms.
Suddenly she felt the fine hairs on the back of her arm and the back of her neck stand up, and without thinking she extended her arms and traps the alien running towards them in one of her webs, throwing it up before pulling it back down to the ground, crushing it.
Apparently, Peter felt it too because when she looked back to him he was already looking back at the now-dead dog. His head turned back towards her, his mouth hanging open a bit as he let out a breath, a beautiful smile painting his lips as he grabbed her face, looking her in the eye.
‘God, I love you so much,“ he mumbles as he brings her mouth up to his again, this kiss a bit more passionate than the last. Y/N laughed into the kiss as she brought her arms around his neck and played with his hair. She pulled him back a bit, their noses still brushing against one another as she pecked him on the lips.
"I love you too,” she whispered, looking into his eyes with such adoration he almost exploded right there with the adrenaline he was feeling just having her this close to him. He smiled wider as he pecked her on the lips; once, twice, and a third time brought her into a proper kiss.
“Y'know as heartwarming as this moment is, you lovebirds realize we’re still fighting a war,” someone said from behind them. They quickly pulled away, stepping back from one another to face Tony Stark, a smirk on his lips as he examined the blush on the young adult’s faces, bashfully looking away from one another.
“Oh shut it, Tony. I deserve this at least,” she shook her head as she looked at the perfect boy beside her, someone she had known pretty much her whole life and had been in love with for just as long. Peter smiled at Tony and walked over to greet him, excited to see his mentor again after so long.
“Mr. Stark! Holy cow you will not believe what has happened to me,” Peter began to ramble as he walked up to him and started to do his usual over-exaggerated hand gestures. “Do you remember when we were in space? Right? And I got all dusty? Well I must have passed out and Dr. Strange said we went to the Soul Stone and we were in like a coma for like five years, and when I woke up, Dr. Strange was there too and he was like 'it’s been five years we have to go’, and then he started doing that yellow sparkly thingy, uh, that he does and… what are you doing? …oh.” Peter stopped when Tony wrapped his arms around him and pulled him into a tight embrace.
Tony felt such a great sense of relief as he hugged Peter, never realizing that the kid was like his first son until it was too late and having to wait so many years to hear his voice again. He placed a kiss on his cheek, in a fatherly way, and opened his eyes, smiling at Y/N who looked so happy.
“This is nice,” Peter said before they pulled away, Peter turned back at Y/N and smiled at her, his grin reaching his sparkling eyes. Tony patted his shoulder.
“I think it’s time we get back into battle,” he stated, his mask going back over his face as he got his repulsors ready. “You two don’t take too long, and NO funny business.” The pair nodded as he flew back into the air, going to help Banner or the Hulk. Peter turned back to Y/N.
“Wow, this is so awesome,” he said as he walked back to her, holding her arms as he admired her suit, which looked similar to his. “You’re like, my spider-girl sidekick.” Y/N laughed and pushed his chest playfully.
“I’m nobody’s sidekick, Parker,” she said. “But I can be your… partner?” Peter smiled and blushed. He bit his lip as he looked her over again, his grin contagious.
“In what way?” He asked, trying to sound sly but sounding more scared of the answer. Y/N laughed and walked over to him, wrapping her arms around his waist.
“In whatever way you want me to be,” she said, kissing his cheek before putting her mask back on and saluting him before swinging of back into battle. Peter stood there with a red blush crawling up his neck and feeling breathless, his smile growing wider if that was even possible.
“Awesome,” he muttered before his mask also went over his face and he went to go help as well.
Y/N was swinging over the battle, occasionally knocking out an airborne enemy in her way if she had to. She scanned through the people fighting, looking for anyone who needed help. But then her web was seemed to be disintegrated as she fell hard onto the floor, another lazer like beam hit right beside her just barely grazing her shoulder. She saw the witch people? (that’s what Tony called them at least) started to make barriers which she quickly ran under. She looked around for Tony and Peter, but couldn’t see them. Until she heard the latter’s voice through her comm.
“Help! Somebody help!” He said, sounding panicked and she heard his grunts as he tried to fight off the aliens. Without thinking of the possible dangers she ran out to help him, her spider-senses helping her locate him. She saw him under a bunch of the aliens and shot a web up.
“Peter, duck!” She said as she rammed through the enemies, knocking them over like bowling pins. She grabbed Peter around the waist and tugged him into her as she shot a web and took them out, grabbing onto Mjloner which had flown right above.
“Aw, thanks, Y/N,” Peter said as he put his head into her neck, which she couldn’t help but blush at. She thought it was cute how their roles were sort of reversed and he was just so baby.
Y/N continued to ride onto the hammer until she saw that it was heading straight towards one of the flying motherships. Her eyes went wide as she looked for a way to get off. She saw Valkerye, one of Thor’s friends, and called out for her as a warning before throwing Peter up so he could get the gauntlet back to Scott.
Y/N then stood on the small handle of the hammer before using her web to fling herself forward, jumping up to get on top of the ship as the hammer continued to destroy it from the inside. As she jumped off and landed surprisingly gracefully on the ground, she looked up to realize that the ships were no longer firing at them, but at something in the atmosphere above.
Y/N squinted before watching a figure move at lightning speed straight through one of the ships firing at them, exploding the whole thing. Y/N smiled, knowing who it was as she ran down to help Peter up, who had just almost been hit by one of the beams.
“Hey, you alright?” She asked softly as she grabbed his arm and helped him get up, him going to get the gauntlet which had escaped his grip after falling. He nodded, his mask going back as hers did.
“Yeah, yeah, all good,” he reassured as he held onto her shoulder for support. “That was so badass, by the way. When I was like, stuck, you know, under those aliens. And then you came and was like wham! and like kicked them off and then you just sorta like picked me up and then you just like threw me onto that flying horse, which is crazy. But you like saved me and that was so cool. Like really cool. Thanks.” Peter rambled as he looked at her in awe, which she gave a sweet smile in return.
Before he could comment any more someone landed right in front of them. Captain Marvel smiled and nodded at Y/N, as she returned the gesture, and looked at Peter, who was still holding tightly onto the infinity stones. Peter looked at her with wide eyes and in awe.
“Hi I-I’m Peter.. Parker,” he said shyly. Captain Marvel smiled at him, looking between the two teenagers.
“I know,” she said as she gave Y/N a knowing glance. “Hey, Peter Parker. You got something for me?” Peter looked at the gauntlet before looking out at the army that was racing towards them, feeling scared at the moment.
“I don’t know how you’re gonna get through that,” he said as he delicately handed the glove to Carol as the other female Avengers and superheroes gathered together around her. Y/N felt immediately at home and looked over at Peter reassuringly as Wanda landed by her side.
“Don’t worry,” Y/N said with a smile as her mask got on and Okoye, T’Challa’s head of king’s guard, finished her sentence for her.
“She’s got help,” she said, and the group of them began to run like hell towards the growing army, all doing their own thing to slam through and take down the enemy. Y/N webbed them down as they tried to attack her sisters and knocked them over as she swung by. She saw one of the bigger monsters making its way towards her, and effortlessly picked it up and threw it into the rest of the aliens making their way towards her at a fast rate.
As she continued to fight off the enemy, she felt a strong surge of energy pass through her, making her stumble slightly. As she regained her balance, she watched as the aliens that were once running straight for her turned into dust, disappearing into the wind. She squinted her eyebrows, looking around for who had snapped before she felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up, warning her that something was wrong.
She followed her senses to find Tony sitting against a piece of debris, extremely pale and barely moving, his arm and part of his face burnt off. She felt her breathing stop as she stumbled towards him, muttering his name as she collapsed in front of him in front of all the other Avengers.
“T-Tony? Tony! No!” She said as fell in front of him, going to grab his hand with both of hers. She hadn’t felt this type of heartbreak since 2018 when she had lost Peter, her mom, and the rest of her friends. But this time she was losing her father.
“Hey, kid,” he said so quietly she wouldn’t have heard him, but she was practically hugging him by now, clinging onto him as a silent way of asking not to leave her. As she heard his voice, an ugly sob ripped through her as she buried her head in his chest as a form of comfort.
“Tony, please not you too,” she asked quietly, squeezing his hand so tight that the metal surrounding it had started to cut into her palms, but she could care less. “Not you too, please. We need you, Tony. I need you, and Morgan, please.” She couldn’t even finish before breaking down.
“Mr. Stark? Can you hear me? It’s Peter.” Peter asked from behind her, shocked to see Y/N holding onto him and crying into him. Tony weakly looked up and brought his attention to the original web-slinging spider. “We won, Mr. Stark. You did it. You did it, sir.”
At the mention of his name, Y/N finally looked up towards Peter, and he felt his heart shatter looking at her already bloodshot red eyes and the tear tracks that were a bright contrast against the rest of her face, which was covered in dust and blood. He walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her, gently pulling her off and into his own arms.
“No, No! Let go, please! I need to help him. Please. No.” Her voice got quieter as Peter held her closely, her back pressed against his chest as they both watched him. Tony looked between the pair, and although it hurt him to see the tears in their eyes, he was happy that they would be able to work through it together. He looked up at Peter and nodded his chin towards Y/N.
“Take… take care of… of her,” he whispered, causing a sob to come over Peter as well as he nodded vigorously, holding her tighter against him if that was even possible at this point.
“Of course, yes always,” he said as he felt salty tears run down at a rapid pace. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Tony.” Tony tried to give him a smile, tried to give him a sign that everything would be okay, but found that he couldn’t.
Then Tony looked at Y/N. He remembered the last time she was like this, and it hurt him that he had to cause her the same pain. But he cared for her and knew that this was what had to happen to keep both of his daughters safe. “I love you.”
Y/N’s head fell as she heard the three simple words come from his mouth, leaning into Peter as she tries to control herself, trying to look strong in front of him, knowing who worried he must be already. “I love you, too, dad.” She whispered and nodded, reaching out to squeeze his hand one more time before Pepper came to his side. Peter carefully pulled Y/N back, her collapsing into his lap and crying into his shoulder as he rubbed her back tried to keep in his own tears to be strong for her but ended up letting go and crying into her soft hair.
“Friday?” Pepper asked, her hand on Tony’s chest as Tony’s hand was placed gently on top of hers.
“Life functions critical,” the AI responded. Y/N felt like she was gonna be sick. She couldn’t think she could breathe, how do you even breathe again? Because she couldn’t quite remember at the moment. She listened to Peter’s heartbeat and used his rising and falling chest as a model.
“Tony? Look at me,” Pepper managed a smile at Tony as he groaned while turning to look towards her. “You’re gonna be okay, you can rest now,” she said as she put a hand on his cheek, gently caressing it before placing a soft kiss to it. And after that, the light on his chest went dim, and it took everything in Y/N not to scream like the day she found out Peter wasn’t coming home for dinner that night.
She felt Peter shaking around her, choking on sobs. She knew he would try and act as a support base for her, and he always liked to put others before himself. But she just held onto him, her hands going up to his messy hair and carting her fingers through the strands as a silent way to tell him that she was there for him too.
The Avengers and other heroes and warriors who had teamed up together to fight kneeled down, showing their respect to another beautiful life taken. The chaos in the warzone had gone quiet, a moment of silence taken in honour of Tony Stark.
And just like that, he was gone, just another figure of history in the textbooks. But to others he was a friend, he was a teammate, he was an idol, he was family. And God knows that he wouldn’t be forgotten for what he was, a hero.
~~~
The funeral occurred a couple of weeks later, only close friends and family were invited at the small gathering at the lake house where he lived with his family. It was odd, walking into the house and feeling so much dread in a place she considered a getaway just days before, a place that brought her such a feeling of happiness and relief.
She sat quietly in a soft chair in the corner, trying to process everything that was happening and everything that would come with it afterwards. She had just finished watching Tony’s video to his family, which Pepper insisted included her, and felt heartbroken at the thought that it would truly be the last time she saw him, ever again.
“Hey,” his soft voice said as Peter crouched down next to her, a hand on her knee as he gently squeezed. His eyes were red and puffy, just as hers were, and he wore a black and white suit that looked nice on him, though it seemed an inappropriate time to comment on it. “They’re starting the service soon, um, by the lake. I think we should go.” Y/N nodded, standing up from her chair and taking his hand in her own, finding comfort in his warm and soft grip.
The two walked out to the deck, one that she had so many memories on with the rest of the Stark family. Peter brought her to stand beside him and his aunt May, who smiled at Y/N and squeezed her hand. Y/N smiled back, but it came out as more of a grimace. They stood just behind Happy, Pepper and Morgan, as Pepper leaned down and set the wreath onto the lake, in the middle it had Tony’s original arc reactor from 2008, with words engraved into it.
‘Proof Tony Stark has a heart’
She found humour in the words but also wondered why anyone had ever thought otherwise. Sure he was a bit egotistical and petty sometimes, and often took to bragging when it came to being one of the smartest people on earth. But if you had known him like I had, she thought to herself, you’d know that he was one of the most caring people ever.
She watched as it floated away down through the calm river, eventually turning into a speck in the distant, covered by trees and the glistening light reflected off the water. Y/N gulped harshly as she tried to keep her tears in, not trying to break the strong personality she had set in stone for the past five years, but nonetheless couldn’t help a few of them slip from her eyes.
When the funeral had ended Y/N went to greet the others that had attended, wearing her best fake smile as people commented on how sorry they were for her loss and she did the same for them. She had gotten many embraces from people she did and didn’t know, and shared small laughs and memories with them.
After Y/N got tired of talking to everyone she tapped Peter, who had stayed by her side through the whole day, and told him she was going to get a drink of water. Peter had insisted on coming and held her hand as they walked away from the crowd and to the cute lakeside cottage, Y/N had considered home for so many years. On the small bench beside the door sat Happy with little Morgan in his lap, who sprung off and ran towards the girl with a bright smile on her face.
“Y/N! Y/N!” Morgan chanted happily as she ran closer, arms stretched out. Y/N smiled genuinely at the young girl and crouched down, picked her up as she ran into her chest and resting her on her hip. She brushed her nose against her soft cheek and placed a kiss upon it.
“Hi, baby,” Y/N said as she bounced Morgan. Peter looked at Morgan with a grin as well, since it was honestly astounding how similar she was to her father. Morgan giggled and played with Y/N’s hair as they had a small conversation and Peter could only watch on in awe. Then Y/N turned Morgan to face Peter. “You remember who this is, don’t you? It’s uncle Peter!” Y/N said, looking at Morgan and then smiling up at Peter, who felt like he was about to cry again just hearing those words.
“Spidey! Spidey!” Morgan screeched happily as she leaned over and made grabbing hands towards Peter, asking him to pick her up. Peter smiled widely before taking her from Y/N’s grip and holding her on his own hip now.
“Hey there, nice to finally meet you,” he said as he rocked slightly and Morgan placed her head on his shoulder, wrapping her small arms around his neck. Peter felt like he might explode from cuteness overload.
“Yeah. Daddy and Y/N says that-that you is the bestest,” she says as she played with the collar of Peter’s shirt. “You’re my favourite superhero! But after daddy.” She says as she smiled up at him. Peter raises his eyebrows and nods, letting out a laugh as he continued to talk with her. Soon the girl was falling asleep on Peter’s shoulder and the two walked inside to put her down for a nap.
Peter gently placed her down on her bed as he put a few stuffed animals by her side and covered her with the pink, fluffy blanket at the end of the bed. He kissed her forehead as Y/N went to place another on her cheek.
“Love you 3000,” she mumbled in her half-asleep state, and Y/N smiled, feeling tears brimming in her eyes as she replied.
“Love you infinity,” she says as she kissed her head. Morgan smiled in her sleepy state as the two stood up and exited the room, closing the door as quietly as they could to not stir her. Peter pulled Y/N into a hug, rocking them from side to side as he felt her tears start to make his shirt wet, but he didn’t seem to care. He kissed her temple and gently grabbed her chin, guiding her to look up at him as he smiled down at her.
“You know, I love you infinity,” he mumbled as he leaned down to brush against her lips. She laughed, his presence making her feel so much better since he really was her saviour. She shook her head, scoffing.
“You’re such a dork, Parker,” she said as she looked up at him, smiling for what felt like the first time in forever. She didn’t know how he had that effect on her, but then again she wasn’t complaining. God knows she needs a bit of relief. “I love you infinity too,” she replied after leaving him hanging for a while, and she stood up on her toes to press her lips to his, the kiss soft and short but still full of emotion.
As they broke apart, he pressed another kiss on her forehead and pulled her into his embrace. “You know what would make you feel better?” He said into her ear, which she replied with a ‘hm?’, asking for him to continue. “If we went home and binge-watched that Shane Dawson conspiracy theory video you told me about the other day.” Y/N scrunched up her eyebrows and looked up at him, a soft laugh passing her lips.
“Right now? Are you serious?” she said, shaking her head as she jokingly pushed his chest. He also chuckled a bit.
“What?” He asked, taking her hand and backing down the hallway. “C’mon, Y/N, you know how long I’ve waited for this video! You can’t just tease me with it!” Y/N raised her eyebrow as she watched Peter bounce a bit, begging her with his adorable brown puppy eyes to come with him.
“Well, you know what? There’s actually two, and they’re an hour and a half each” she whispered, causing Peter to groan and throw his head back. As he looked back up he was smirking, his tongue swiping over his teeth as he looked at her.
“You’re gonna be the death of me,” he whispered as he tugged on her hand and pulled her away, Y/N following a giggling mess as he brought her to Aunt May’s car and drove them back home, both excitedly discussing different videos and movies and other events that Peter had missed while he was gone.
Even though it meant sacrificing a lot, and even though she was still devastated about Tony and Nat’s death, Y/N felt as if everything would be okay as she lied on Peter’s chest, his strong arms wrapped securely around her as they watched the movie long conspiracy videos together. They exchanged small kisses and soft words, and even feeding popcorn to each other cause they were that grossly sweet kind of couple. And Y/N had finally found her hope.
SKAM Austin Season 2 Episode 4
I have to say, SKAM Austin really threw me off this week. They mixed together so many different episodes, that I was left guessing what would happen. I did not know until the Friday clip whether or not Daniel and Grace would have their first kiss.
Nobody
We got to see the morning after clip! OG deprived us of this scene, and none of the other remakes showed it either. (Well, Druck kind of did, but they copped out on us by having Alex gone).
I do have to say, though, that this clip is suspiciously similar to the first clip of OG episode 6. They have the whole “Were you looking at me while I slept?” exchange (they switched it so Daniel was the one watching Grace as she slept and not the other way around) and we got introduced to Daniel’s brother.
I thought the banter between Grace and Daniel was cute. However, it kind of felt off. In OG this exchange happened after a couple weeks of them dating. This is the night after Grace slept at his house. And I wouldn’t necessarily find it as unnatural as I do, if in the previous episode there had been more joking and flirting around. Grace and Daniel were so much more serious the night before than Noora and William were in that episode, so it feels weird to have them flirting so light-heartedly in this scene. Not to say I didn’t like it; I just felt it didn’t fit their characters and their dynamic as well as it did in OG.
And they continue the Noorhelm/remakes tradition of pillow fighting. Honestly, one of the cutest things this couple does.
So when his brother comes, Daniel legitimately leaves Grace in his room for like ten to twenty minutes. Kind of rude.
Grace eventually gets up and heads to the kitchen. She meets Clay, Daniel’s douche of a brother who pretends he knows all about feminism, but is actually just a condescending example of male privilege.
Well, Daniel is less of an ass in this scene than William was. I’ll give him that. I have seen people defend William in this scene and say “Oh, look at his eyes. He was practically screaming that he would explain everything later to Noora. She should have known he didn’t mean it.” Sigh. Look, while you as an audience member might have been able to grasp that oh so subtle look in his eyes, Noora probably could not. Think about it from her perspective: William has been so caring to her up to this point, so it is a huge shock to hear those words. She probably couldn’t think of anything beyond that. Nor should she be expected to. Also, it is apparent that William was never going to explain his actions because Noora had to drag an apology out of him later that week when she confronted him about his shitty behavior.
Anyways. Grace picks up on Daniel’s uncomfortable vibe and leaves. As she is walking out she hears Daniel refer to her as a “nobody”. Still shitty, but at least at this point, Grace and Daniel are not actually dating. Like Noora hearing that from William after weeks of dating, was a harsh blow. Here, it sucks, yeah, but not at the same level.
Harlot
Eve is going through Grace’s clothes to give away to immigrants. I do think changing it to immigrants is great. It is especially prescient right now, with all the debate about Mexican immigrants. And Eve does not seem to be prompted by a love interest, so, an improvement in her motives?
Megan comes over to return Grace’s things. She wants to get back with Marlon. Nooooo!
So, I guess they are skipping over the Season 2 cabin episode. It makes sense; that episode in OG was an Easter special and it didn’t do much to move the plot forward.
Eve reveals that Grace slept over at Daniel, and Megan is all over that drama. She doesn’t believe for a minute that Grace is not into Daniel.
Megan and Grace decide to take a nap together. #friendgoals
High-Key
Yay, Jo is joining the newspaper! I love that they are giving her more to do in this season. OG Chris was kind of just there. C’mon guys, give us a Jo season. Is she confirmed to be bisexual? OMG, make her Shay’s love interest! Make her the Austin Even. That would be amazing! I literally just came up with the best idea ever.
Also, Jo deserves all her instagram fame. She deserves world-wide fame.
Squee! Grace deleted Daniel from her message history. Not as badass as deleting his contact info, though.
Oprah
Zoya is actually talking about the dance team! Wow, when are we going to see the girls in action? Will we EVER see them dancing?
Zoya is constantly getting overlooked and bullied by the Kittens. Abby literally bumps into her. I can see that Zoya is getting angry by this. She wants to put the Kittens in their place. Will this replaces Sana’s subplot with Jamila in Season 2?
Mmmm, Zoya’s line about ‘her always being the one who has to be chill’ was on point. I feel like that is so true for many minorities because otherwise they’ll be punished more than the white girls. I really liked that line, but the whole back and forth between her and Grace felt so stilted and scripted. IDK, it just felt like Grace was acting - something out of line with SKAM’s vision.
Grace just busts out her dance moves right there in the middle of the hallway. You gotta have respect for that.
Kelsey is running up and down the stairs. She is really going over the top. Whew, that was one crazy monologue. It was all over the place.
Zoya drops some more truth as she tells Megan to forget about Marlon. Yes, girl. MARLON IS NOT WORTH IT. Megan complains that Zoya is being mean to her. But I’m with Zoya here. She’s just telling the truth, and Megan needs to get over Marlon.
And then the benefit comes in. Daniel and Pen-Joe trashed Pen-Joe’s father’s cabin and now they have to pay him back. Well, this doesn’t really make sense. It is just his dad, so it is not as big a deal as trashing someone else’s property.The football guys are auctioning off dates to raise the money to pay back Pen-Joe’s dad.
Kelsey fails so hard at trying to act all nonchalant about Daniel. Also, why are they hinting at Hunter for Zoya. He was straight up Islamophobic to her. I don’t really care if it was a joke or anything. That was such a bad directorial choice. Unless… he is the equivalent of the guy on the Russebuss who bullies Sana and is a straight-up asshole. If they eventually paint Hunter as an asshole, I would be OK with this as set-up for that.
Grace suddenly snaps, “Can we not talk about guys, for once?” All the girls are kind of taken aback. You can tell Kelsey is very shook. Maybe she should listen to Grace for once. Daniel is not worth it.
Jo saves the day once again. I hope her cat is doing better.
So, is the benefit happening this episode? Does this mean Daniel and Grace are going to have their first kiss this Friday? SKAM Austin is really switching things up this week. They cut the cabin episode and they are combining elements from episode 5 and 6. I actually like this because it keeps me on my toes. I don’t know what will happen this Friday. However, I do confess that I hope Grace and Daniel don’t kiss this week. I just don’t think they are at that point in their relationship, especially after what Daniel said about Grace on Saturday morning. I hope they at least talk about that incident before they kiss. I need to see Grace drag Daniel for calling her “nobody”.
Uninhibited
Continuing a fight that neither she nor Grace know anything about is such a Poonam move.
Aww, I love that Grace invited Poonam to join their dance team. Please, we need to see this! Also, I just got reminded just how sweet Grace is; she was pretty awesome in Season 1.
But I didn’t need SKAM Austin to hit me over the head with it through Poonam. They really didn’t need to include that line; it was so obvious. C’mon. We are not a stupid audience. We know when Grace is being nice.
Grace gets called out of class to go to the “principal’s office”, but it is just a ruse for Daniel to see her.
Damn, Daniel acts as though nothing happened. Even if he didn’t know she heard him say the “nobody” part, he was still rude to her around his brother.
Daniel wants Grace to come to the fundraiser. Grace lectures him on immigration issues.
She seems really hurt that he called her nobody, but I think it is more because she let her guard down for him when she knew she probably shouldn’t have and she is angry with herself for doing that.
Daniel apologizes. I guess he sounds sincere.
Then Grace says, “Could you be any more of a fuckboy?” YES!!!! Thank god we had this scene. I think Grace did a great job standing up for herself against Daniel’s shitty behavior earlier this episode. So, now I am almost positive the kiss is happening this week.
Spring Showcase
Kelsey is missing. I hope she is alright.
Zoya is focused on getting the Spring Showcase spot.
We get the whole “I’ll donate to an immigration charity. But only if you come” between Grace and Daniel. I don’t know why, but this exchange has always angered me immensely. It is not even one of the worst things William/Daniel does. I think I hat it so much because it is so hypocritical. At the fundraiser, when Noora mentions how he is blackmailing her, he states that he would have donated the money anyways, even if she hadn’t shown up. And he says it like it is the most obvious fact in the world. I think it was meant to make us think he was such a good guy, but it just made my blood boil. Because he literally said the exact opposite to her in this scene. If he had said he was going to donate to charities anyways, Noora never would have come. Ugh! I just hate how much of a hypocrite William is (and Daniel, by default).
We are about to see the girls dance, before the clip cuts out. Why????!!! Is it just a running joke that we will never see them dance? So sad.
Chill Out
Grace and Megan just look miserable. Grace is eyeing Daniel who is talking/flirting with Abby. Oooh, theory time. In OG and SKAM France, the girl William was talking to was Mari, who we later learn knows his family. Will Abby be a remake of Mari and Ingrid?
Pen-Joe goes up to the girls and compliments Jo on her lips. Zoya is like “Are you gonna let him talk to you like that?” and Jo’s like, “yeah” and goes off with Pen-Joe. Treat her well, Pen-Joe. Zoya turns back to the guy she was talking to (who I’m pretty sure is Hunter). Hmmm, Zoya, you can’t really talk. Hunter said way worse things to you. They are trying to make a point here about how girls shouldn’t let guys talk to them that way, but it is a bit hypocritical when they throw in this whole Hunter/Zoya dynamic.
Also, I think OG Chris and remakes are actually really interesting characters. I feel like because of their weight (or their skin color in some remakes), they feel like they have to be the one to go along with everything and never stir up trouble. The remake that I think has portrayed this the best is Druck with Sam.
Megan goes off, and Kelsey joins the girls. But then Grace and Kelsey have to go rescue Megan who has just kissed Shay!!! Well. This is a hell of a lot more awkward than OG where Eva kissed Vilde. I really liked that they switched it up, but I do feel deprived of a Kelsey/Megan kiss.
God, Tyler is so rude all the time. Go, Grace for standing up to him.
Grace and Daniel have their confrontation where he asks if she likes him. She says no. But you can see she doesn’t mean it. I think the red lighting in that scene was great; it really heightened the drama.
Grace runs out of the party to catch up with Daniel and they share a passionate kiss. Now, I’m kind of sad they didn’t have any dialogue before their kiss. In OG, Noora’s line right before she kisses William is so iconic. It directly represents her struggle. She tells him what an asshole he is and then kisses him. Druck also had a great bit of dialogue between Mia and Alex. BUT, I think the scene works well without it and the kiss was cute.
Cut to Kelsey watching them as she holds Megan’s hair back while she vomits. She looks so stricken. I think for her it is more of a shock. In OG, I think Vilde kind of had her suspicions. Here, Kelsey just seems more clueless, so I can buy that this comes out of nowhere to her.
General Comments
Overall, it was a pretty interesting episode. I didn’t know the kiss was going to happen until Thursday, so that was nice. I like when there is still an element of surprise in the clips. That’s what made SKAM so addicting and popular. I look forward to see what happens next because usually the scene where we meet Niko follows this episode, but as you know we already got introduced to Daniel’s brother. I don’t know if it’s just me, but he seems so much older than any of the other versions of Niko. It will be very creepy when the sexual assault storyline comes around. I need more of Jo; she is amazing and SKAM Austin has the opportunity to make her a very complex character. We got the kiss! Let’s see how Daniel and Grace’s relationship develops.
