The Week Before Warror’s Way

Watcher set down the plate he had been washing.

His brain felt bubbly from the constant stream of choirs this week. To clear it he looked out to his crowded inn.

Most of the ricky tables were filled with dragons of all sorts. A young Wildclaw was describing a far fetched series of events to an awestruck Ridgeback. There was a dark red Spiral brooding in the corner. And a older Imperial couple sat quietly eating in the center.

Despite all their differences these dragons were all here for the same reason: Warrior's Way.

Warrior's Way was a ten day long event were dragons tested their metal and battled various foes. Whether it was a spar between themselves or grappling with shade-touched beasts.

Many also used this to train to go into the service of one of the Gods. That was the goal of the dragons crowding Watcher's inn. They were those who seeked to serve the Arcanist and so had holed up here to wait for the right time.

"May I help?"

Watcher looked down to see a young copper Spiral beaming up at him. "Oh, thank you Leoline but that's alright. I'm almost done anyway."

"Okay! Let me know if you need help!" Leoline chirped before bouncing off undoubtedly to bother one of the guests.

Unlike the others, Leoline had no intention of going into the service of the Gods. At least not yet. He was from a long line of travelers and planned on seeing as much of Sornieth as possible. Clan Unseelie had been his first stop. In fact he'd arrived when he was only a hatchling.

Watcher chuckled as he returned to the dishes and remembered that day. The inn was almost empty at that time so Watcher was simply puttering about doing nothing when a knock came at the door.

Standing there was the Gaoler that guarded the gates, with a tiny Spiral hatchling in his paw. He shoved the hatchling into Watcher's claws and went back to his post without a word.

After getting over the surprise Watcher got the little one settled. He had worried that this would be overwhelming for such a young dragon.

But little Leoline had taken to the life easily. He helped in the inn where he could and would quiz the other guests endlessly about their own travels.

It likely wouldn't be long before the Spiral sent off on his next journey.

The thought of it made Watcher tempted to figure out how to make Leoline stay...but no. He couldn't. Leo had been preparing for his whole life for this. It wasn't Watcher's place to try to stop that.

Though it would not stop the Obelisk from hoping that someday the youngling would come back someday.

Okay, I need to talk about this. A blacklist system in the form that people are requesting it is not simple. At all.

First off the blacklist system for just site images would only realistically extend to just to items in your hoard (or lairs for dragon images) or in the database. What about the items showing in coli/bios/forums/tab info? As far as I'm aware those don't pull info from personal player settings, just their main database. There would need to be a system that checks all of those for your supposed blacklisted items. There is no 'it just blurs the image' here. There's a 'we would need to make an entire extra triple layer cake of code to check everything' or 'the basic blacklist blurring exists but only on these three areas and is visible everywhere else.'

And suppose they do all that, every bit of it and all that effort. It still won't matter. Forums, clan pages, dragon bios, all these allow for custom images. I could save a photo of my dragon that falls under someone's blacklist, slap that into imgur, and put it in the bio. Maybe I wanted to photoshop my hatchling into a silly hat? Dragon picture in bio. Artwork depicting a seemingly 'safe' dragon not on someone's blacklist with a feature that upsets them? Well it wasn't blurred so clicking it should have been okay. Saving someone's avatar dragon image to use as forum decoration? Not linked to any actual player icon and therefore exists outside of any blanket blacklist. Someone just buys a dragon off the auction house and finds it has a hatchery banner in the bio with an image they don't like? At least the code doesn't show image previews, but you're still going to wind up seeing the image.

The only way around the above issue is heavier moderation on what people can post and do with their custom spaces, which goes against the primary argument of a blacklist only affecting the person who sets it. Even then I can see such toxic hostility sprouting up when someone does something as simple as showing off a silly dragon edit because 'well some people would have that dragon blocked!' It already happens, even in spaces where it is perfectly clear spoilers aren't required.

I understand not wanting to see things. I understand things making you uncomfortable. But please stop saying this is 'simple accessibility' because it isn't. This is so heavily multi-layered from not only a basic gameplay stance but from a social gameplay stance.

wada sez: Like many Mosaic strips, and official tie-in media from 3H Productions, Beast Wars - Second Chances aims to show the fates of various characters who were left on Earth at the end of the cartoon. Tarantulas was presumed destroyed in the episode “Other Victories”, but clearly some vestige of him remains! “Operation: Ninth Eye” was reportedly an idea of Mike Priest’s, a reference to Tarantulas oddly having nine eyes instead of eight in beast mode. See below for Shaun Flaherty’s original script, which was dated to April 21st, 2009. In addition, each of the writers on Beast Wars: Second Chances contributed a personal bio explaining their history with the franchise; you can find Shaun’s “Writer Spotlight” below as well.

TARANTULAS: Mah-he-hee-ha-ha-ha!!!

Believe it or not, the project that became BEAST WARS: Second Chances began over a year ago. In September 2008, Josh van Reyk, one of the creative minds behind Transformers: Mosaic, pitched the idea of a Beast Wars one-shot to a handful of us writers and we ran with the idea!  Hundreds of email messages ensued as we hammered out the story.  A lot of great stuff ended up on the "cutting room floor" as we tried to cram as much Beast Wars awesomeness into 22 short pages as possible. So, that's the beginning of how this baby came together, but what about me?  What's my story?  In case you're wondering, here's a taste: My name is Shaun Flaherty.  I am 30 years old and newly married.  I went to school for acting and currently manage a health club. But before all that, there were Transformers. Being born at the very end of the Seventies, I was a Star Wars kid, but soon after the Jedi returned, I discovered something else.  On my first day of kindergarten in 1984, my father presented me with Optimus Prime and 25 years later I still love robots in disguise. Fast-forward a decade or so, past weekday afternoons and a Movie, past reruns and Generation 2.  I discovered Beast Wars late one Saturday morning on a crappy little TV with terrible reception and it was love at first sight. Five delightful seasons (including Beast Machines) and then it was gone. DreamWave promised more, but delivered only one short story.  IDW promised more, but delivered something that wasn't quite the Beast Wars that I had in mind. Our goal with BEAST WARS: Second Chances is to recapture magic, even if only for a moment.  Our goal is for Second Chances to feel like Beast Wars to you. Although the finished product is still a way's away, we hope you'll like what you'll see. -- Shaun Flaherty

This might be a good time for me to remind folks of my Hikaru no Go web shrine. It’s an ongoing WIP, but currently includes translations, character bios, links to useful resources (including where to read/watch), free-to-use graphics, and info on the video games!!

Also, I’ve said this before but: if you’re a romhacker who’s interested in working with me on translations of the Hikaru no Go games, please please please get in touch! These games are way more than just go simulators, and I’d love to be able to bring them to an English-speaking audience, but the hacking side of things is just not in my ability (trust me I’ve tried)

Then their ya go a dragon! now experiment to alternate versions and this is only one way, like I can explain mecha and slow breeding ones to or others, now you can then fuck your own creation in any part of its line of creation and bio sculpt it till its everything you want in a mate.
