summary - you somehow get turned into a baby and they have to spend 24 hours babysitting you

warnings - my first time writing for ALL of these characters, so i'm sorry if i get their characters wrong! im only 416 episodes into the anime. i tried my best!

MIHAWK

This could honestly go either way. This guy is unpredictable and even you never know what his next move will be. But you're his faithful and loving girlfriend, so there are some exceptions when it comes to you. Like when some deranged devil fruit user turns you into a baby, and Mihawk could have had someone else take care of you, but he wanted to do it himself. He was curious, now that it was you who was an infant.

But that may also be because a witness to the scene had expressed fear for infant you, saying that Mihawk was too cold and ruthless to take care of a baby. He didn't need to prove otherwise, and he didn't want to, but something just gnawed at him. Protectiveness, maybe. You were in such a vulnerable state right now, only he could protect you and care for you.

It had absolutely nothing to do at all with the fact that you looked so adorable staring at him with your big (eye colour) eyes, reaching out to tap his because the strange colour fascinated you. No, it had nothing to do with how cute your excited squeal was every time he picked you up or looked at you. He was absolutely not entranced by your cute little smile or how you clung to him with little hands that could barely hold his one finger. Absolutely not.

Mihawk is actually a pretty good babysitter. But only for you. He will sit and read to you with you on his lap, trying not to smile when you giggle and smack the book, always catching you when you lunged forward excitedly and almost fell off his lap. He will never finish the story, but he reads to you anyway because you seem to like it...for a little while.

"(Name), no!"

He almost had a heart attack when he set you down for one second to put the book away, and you almost fell off the table because you were trying to crawl to him. Your eyes filled with tears when he yelled, even if he hadn't meant to sound angry. His gaze softened, and he picked up and cradled you against his chest, pressing a gentle kiss to your temple.

"It's alright, I won't hurt you. You're fine, little one."

And then you really are fine, your little body comforted by his actions and words. They lull you into sleep, and soon you rest on his shoulder and fall into a deep sleep, gripping his shirt collar tightly in your tiny fist.

"Sleep well, (Name)."

When you awake, in your usual adult form, you're too nervous to suggest it, but thankfully Mihawk is thinking the same thing.

"I think I'd like a little you or me to keep me company."

BUGGY

Buggy is horrible with children. I mean he's not great with people, but he is absolutely, terrifyingly not good with kids at all. So when you were somehow turned into a tiny human being who could barely stand on two legs, he was shocked. And slightly scared, though he would never admit it. You were the only person he genuinely liked, so he tried not to be too...rough, with your little form. Picking you up was as far as he got, but even then he held you out awkwardly like a football.

And then you squealed and happily reached for his nose, the bright red circular appendage attracting your attention instantly. Now, Buggy was sensitive about his nose, but he let you touch it. A testament to how much he liked you. And, if he were being honest, you were actually kind of cute squeezing his nose like that until he couldn't breath-

Exhale out the mouth.

When he remembered he could use his mouth to breathe, he smiled a little at how much you were enjoying yourself playing with his nose. You even touched his makeup and all his markings, out of curiosity. Your eyes were bright with confusion but also fascination, and it did something weird to Buggy. Made him feel...warm inside?

Then he decided to, experimentally, see what your reaction to his devil fruit would be in this tiny form. He set you down on the floor again, and then detached his hand. Your eyes went wide and you instantly covered your eyes with your small hands, your bottom lip trembling. He panicked, tripping over himself and falling into a tangled heap in front of you. You peeked between your fingers to see this, then burst out into cute laughter. Buggy almost glared at you, but then remembered you were just a baby and instead picked himself up and smiled - or rather tried his best not to smile like a maniac - at you.

Then you saw his floating hand, and grabbed it.

"No no, (Name), that's not-"

You stuck his fingers in your mouth, and he groaned. You just giggled innocently, and only then did he realise his devil fruit could be a source of entertainment for you. He detached multiple limbs and floated them around, watching as you squealed in glee and crawled around trying to catch them.

Were you actually having fun because of him?

When he finally put his body back together again, you pouted but crawled up to his leg and hugged it, gurgling happily as if to thank him. He was stunned. He slowly picked you up and you offered him a toothless smile, before yawning. Still unsure, he laid you on his shoulder and awkwardly patted your back, but that seemed to work because you slowly fell asleep.

When you woke up again, finally an adult, you grinned at him, "Shall we make you a father?"

SHANKS

It was his fault, really. He picked the fight, contrary to his usual behaviour. But that guy had said something about you, and he couldn't ignore it, so of course he acted. And now here you were, a tiny baby fisting his shirt in your tiny hand and looking up at him with big, curious (eye colour) eyes. He had experience with children, of course, having spent some time with Luffy. But you were so small, so delicate.

"Captain, what-"

He ignored the confused questions from his crew as he brought you back on board the ship, immediately taking you to his quarters. It shouldn't last long, he reminded himself, but he still felt guilty. Though that quickly disappeared when you giggled and crawled around his quarters, knocking things over and hiding with a loud giggle when he caught you.

"Oi, (Name)!" He tried to sound stern, he really did, but his laugh have his mood away. You stuck your head out from under his bed and stuck your tiny tongue out at him, and he burst out laughing. "Oh, you're cute, sweetheart."

He lifted you up again and you squealed excitedly and reached for his hair, the bright colour attracting your attention. He grinned and put you on his head, keeping his hands on your small waist, and soon felt you tug on his red strands. You were giggling and pulling and kicking your legs happily, so he endured the pain just for your sake. It was very cute how you thought his hair was a toy, and by the time you got tired of it, it was a mess. Strands were everywhere, out of place, sticking out...but it didn't matter to him.

Because now you were looking at him with your big, innocent eyes and suckling on your hand as he cradled you against his chest. He gently rubbed your back and pressed a soft kiss to your tiny tuft of (hair colour) hair.

"You're so pretty even as a baby, (Name)."

You rewarded him with a sloppy kiss on his cheek, making him laugh. He sat on his bed with you still in his arms, watching as you grew tired and offered him the cutest sight - the tiniest of yawns.

"Sleep, little one."

He gently rocked you to sleep, reassuringly and soothingly patting your small back as you drifted off on his shoulder. He felt warm inside, as if a small fire had been lit inside him. He knew what it was.

And when you woke up in adult form, he grinned at you, "Let me give you a baby, sweetheart."

BROOK

Brook has experience with babies. Maybe not human babies, but babies nonetheless. He knows a human baby is very different to a whale baby, but he figures that there can be similarities too. Such as entertainment, which is his area of expertise. So when he looks down at his feet to see baby you tugging on his pants, he is somewhat prepared. He has no idea how you were turned into a baby, of course, but he's not complaining because you are so, so adorable.

"What happened to (Name)?" Franky asked the skeleton, raising an eyebrow.

"Nothing important!" Was Brook's gleeful reply, followed by a laugh when you somehow crawled on top of his afro and knocked his hat off so you could take its place.

"Nothing imp-" Franky sighed. "Do you even know how to look after a baby?" Franky's eyes worriedly drifted to where you sat upon the skeleton's head, tugging on his afro and squealing with delight. You wobbled precariously.

"No, but it can't be any different to a baby whale!"

Franky would have commented on that, if you hadn't slipped off Brook's head. The cyborg easily caught you, before holding you out to Brook, "Don't let her sit on your head."

"Noted."

For the rest of the day, Brook occupied you by sitting you down on his bed and playing music for you, telling you stories about Laboon and his crew, and about his experiences in the Grand Line before you guys found him. He sang all sorts of songs, played all sorts of melodies, while you giggled and clapped your hands excitedly, bouncing up and down. Brook smiled, the sight warming heart - oh, but he doesn't have a heart. He hardly ever got tired, but you prompted him to play for hours on end, until he really was exhausted. So he picked you up, settled on his bed, and lay you on his lap before humming a tune. You slowly drifted off to sleep, and Brook smiled.

He hoped he could play for one of the crew's babies one day.

CHOPPER

Another island, another mishap, another adventure. No trip is ever boring with the Straw Hats, and this was again proven when an unfortunate encounter with a devil fruit user who could change people's ages led to you being turned into an infant. And that's how you found yourself cradled in Sanji's arms, with Chopper trying to get a good look at you all throughout the walk back to the Sunny.

"Chopper, she's fine," the cook tried to assure the doctor, but Chopper was having none of it.

He was so worried, because no one was equipped to take care of a baby, and he cared about you so much that now you were a baby, he was becoming overprotective. As soon as Sanji set you down somewhere safe for Chopper to examine you, he was grabbing his bag and bringing out all his different tools. He checked all your vitals and made sure you were first and foremost healthy, before he could consider anything else.

Then you touched his blue nose and widened your eyes in fascination, gurgling softly, and Chopper blushed brightly. He smiled and poked your nose back, and you let out the cutest giggle that melted the reindeer's little heart. He shifted to his humanoid form and gently lifted you up into his arms, cradling you as he gazed down at you with the utmost love, adoration and fascination he could manage. You were so tiny, even more so than him, and so so cute. Then you sneezed, looking stunned for a moment before giggling loudly. And Chopper thought there was nothing more joy-inducing than holding and watching baby you.

"Chopper, where's-oh." Nami stopped when she saw Chopper standing there just holding you, one of his fingers in your tiny hand as he cooed at you and made you giggle. She smiled softly and left the room, deciding you were in safe hands.

"You're the cutest baby in the world, (Name)," Chopper told you. You just smiled brightly, exposing your gums cause you had no teeth, and waved your small arms around happily.

Chopper was really good with you. He monitored you throughout the 24 hours, making sure you ate properly, got enough sleep and were bathed properly. He is probably the best caretaker out of all the men on this list, not only because he's doctor but he's naturally caring and nurturing. It comes like second nature to him. Besides, you were such a calm and quiet baby - except for the giggling - that you made it easy for him. He was almost sad when you fell asleep, knowing you'd be grown up again when you woke up.

But maybe one day the crew would be able to fawn over a baby everyday. Maybe one day.

♥️Reveling in Richonne - TOWL

#2: The Dreamgirl (1.01)

As Rick lies on the ground bleeding out from chopping off his own hand, he goes to the one place and the one person who makes him most feel alive, just like he did when bleeding out on that bridge. All these years later, he still turns to Michonne as his safe haven in trying times. 🥲

It's been clear for years that Michonne was Rick’s dream girl, but I absolutely adore the way TOWL just confirmed it even more with these great Richonne dream sequences...

I love that, after a crazy heartbreaking first few minutes of TOWL, we then get to see Richonne interacting with each other right away through Rick's calming dream. I really was not expecting that we’d be seeing Rick and Michonne on screen together in episode 1, so it was such a pleasant surprise that they found a way to have them together through the dreams. 🙌🏽  

I remember seeing Michonne show up on the bench and just feeling instantly emotional and elated that they were really back. 🥹 After all the years and patience waiting to see them back on our screen the time had finally come to see Richonne on TV together again. And one thing Andy and Danai said we’re going to remind y’all of immediately is that Rick and Michonne have impeccable captivating chemistry in any world. Oh, there’s so much to say about these dreams and I'm going to try to say it all. 😋

So Rick fades out after cutting off his hand to get back to her and then he starts to recall an array of flashing memories. The clips include the burning crops of his childhood home which will have added significance by the end of the ep, windmills, a chopper, a prison cell, a home, and then he sees Michonne’s eyes (which I like to think is a suggestion that her eyes are one of his favorite features).

Then the memories cut to the stairs of Rick's family home during the night of the fire from his youth and then the bridge burning as he screams Michonnes name and recalls when she screamed his that devastating day on the bridge. And my heart was shattered yet again to learn that this implies Rick did in fact hear Michonne scream his name that day. 🥺 The torment of that is immense for many reasons.

One of Rick's favorite things in life was making Michonne happy and their relationship was one of joy yet the note they ended on was tragic with Rick hearing Michonne screaming his name in agony as he’s then taken from her for years. It means Rick doesn’t just know Michonne’s in pain by the loss of him he straight up heard a glimpse of that pain and isn’t able to alleviate it by letting her know he’s alive and still completely in love with her out here. That tragic bridge moment is the last memory he has of her. Pain. 💔

And I’m curious about the part when Rick yells Michonne's name. I saw someone say the sound bite is taken from a TWD scene but I’m more curious about the reason behind the use of it here in TOWL. At first, I thought it was implying that he too yelled out for Michonne while he was on the bridge, suggesting her name was in fact the last thing he said before thinking he was going to die. But in these memory flashes, Rick says her name before Michonne calls his name so it’s not so much a response to her.

So then I thought they were implying that his psyche was screaming out for her because he needs her, and that's why he hears her call out to him from the awful bridge memory. Not sure, but either way I liked hearing both of them passionately call out to each other. You can fully hear the way they love each other and the way losing each other is a unique kind of horrible for them both.

Like not even being dramatic, Rick and Michonne calling out for each other like that feels like what their souls have been doing every day they’ve been apart. 

So then, almost in his subconscious' own act of resilience, Rick aims to overwrite that tragic real memory of the bridge exploding, Michonne hurting, and being separated from his true love, by immediately going to a happy place. To combat the real memory it’s like his mind has to quickly run to a place where they're at peace. Where Michonne's just enjoying her lunch at the park and he’s just a regular guy, falling for her at first sight.

Rick knows the truth is they’re both not okay right now and to offer himself some solace his mind has to go to a place where they are okay. Better yet, his mind has to go to a place where they fall in love all over again, as falling in love with Michonne is clearly a very cherished achievement and a memorable part of Rick’s journey. I love that he loves that they fell in love. 🥹

At the start of the dream, Rick stands lost and frustrated in the park, and then we hear Michonne say “Excuse me?”

Rick turns around and y’all for a millisecond I thought they were implying Rick Grimes was dreaming about Danai Gurira herself lol. Like nawt TOWL breaking the fourth wall. 🤭

But being serious, I was overjoyed to see my lovely Michonne back on screen and with Rick. She looked stunning in her purple outfit. The wardrobe department was on point for TOWL throughout.

Also, let me just say when it comes to Danai - every color reaches its fullest potential on her. Like the day she wears the color is the best that color has ever looked. And she was glowing in the purple. 👏🏽👑💜

I also love how she and Rick are both wearing similar colors to what they wore the day their paths first crossed in TWD 3.06. And while it tickles me a bit that they’re implying Rick's subconscious could conjure up Michonne in cute waist-length box braids and this stylish purple fit imma just chalk it up to Rick’s psyche having some great taste and culture. 😋 Rick’s dreams are correct in knowing Michonne would be a fashion it-girl in the world before. 👌🏽

I adore that when Rick turns around and sees Michonne on the bench he falls for her instantly. Like you see him be fully taken aback and smitten by this beautiful woman he’s just laid eyes on. The way he’s blinking and at a loss for words saying “I mean…” The cutest. 😊It makes sense that he’d be captivated by just taking one look at her.

And y’all my interpretation of these dreams is that they are almost like a stage play metaphorically depicting elements of Richonne’s real-life journey. Like in TWD, Michonne entered Rick’s life when he was extremely lost and while love grew more in season 4 he was very quickly captivated by her in season 3. He also needs her help right away in both the dream and in their TWD journey.

In the dream, Rick struggles to find words since Cupid plunged that arrow smack dab into his heart the moment he laid eyes on her so Michonne sorta cutely teases him asking “You mean something else?”

Rick, who is just super adorable in these dreams btw, finally finds words and gives her the whole scoop nervously saying “I’m not from around here. I’m lost and I’m late for work. Do you know, uh, cartography?”

Ok, first of all, the cutest again lol. It’s hilarious that rather than just ask if Michonne knows directions to where he needs to go he asks if she knows the whole science of drawing maps. 🤓

And Michonne thinks it’s cute too as she laughs and says “I don’t. I just know where things are.”

Rick stoops down to show her the map and points to the place he's looking for, saying, “That's where I need to be, but I don’t know where I am.”

Michonne takes a look at the map and quickly has the answer as she warmly smiles and points saying “That way. Past the big blue building.” She knows the way and she’s leading him to where he needs to be just like real life. And the way she smiles at him here is so sweet and encouraging.

Rick takes in her words, even quietly repeating them to himself, while still seeming a bit nervous and lost.

Then Michonne looks right up at him as she says “You’ll get there. I believe in you.” She, just like the real Michonne can sense Rick’s inner feelings of anxiety, and she, just like the real Michonne, offers such a beautiful comfort to him.

I feel these dreams make it clear Rick loves her smile and warm aura. And he especially loves her belief in him.

Like I adore the way this shows that Rick knows and values how much Michonne believed in him in their life together. She was always such an affirming and supportive presence in his life and it’s so meaningful to see him find solace in that aspect of their dynamic within his dreams. His wife’s belief in him always makes him feel like he can do anything no matter how lost.

Dream Rick takes her words to heart as he gives Michonne this sincere smile, genuinely appreciating the belief. And once again, signature to Rick irl, he has a quiet moment of just staring at her, taking her in with love in his eyes.

And then he gently asks “Do you mind if I just…?” wanting to pause everything else going on and just sit by her side which I love and is true to Rick’s character. Work and the whole damn world can always wait when he’s with her.

Michonne smiles and says “I don’t mind” as Rick takes a seat next to her and all gentlemanly says “I don’t mean to interrupt your lunch. You work around here?” Look at him trying to make small talk just to get more time with her. 😊

And Michonne looks right at him, liking what she’s seeing, as she calmly says “I do” and Rick asks “You like it?” This moment reminds me of that sociable season 5 scene when Rick wanted to get to know Michonne more personally, asking about how she got so good with her sword and if she misses it, and Michonne opened up about what she really misses which is people they love. 

In the dream, Michonne is also honest answering Rick’s question as she thinks for a moment and says “It’s not where I want to be.” Then she so tenderly asks Rick “Are you where you wanna be?” And the Richonne tones...ahhh 😍. I just can’t get over how sweet this all is. I love these dreams so much and am smiling from ear to ear as I write and rewatch.

Rick's dreams are the only moment of tenderness he experiences since being taken and it's heartwarming how he knows that even if just in his mind he can always turn to Michonne for comfort and care.

Upon hearing Michonne's question, Rick, looking at her like he has found the greatest gold in all the land, smiles and warmly says “Yeah.” with no hesitation. Because he’s with her - so in this moment he’s exactly where he wants to be. 😭

First- I love them so much it hurts. His delivery was perfect. Hearing their tender Richonne tones for the first time in 6 years made me emotional.

And I love that they don’t cut away from the moment right away as Rick stares right at her basically wanting Michonne to know that his “yeah” is completely about her. She’s where he wants to be. She’s home. The second he laid eyes on her on that bench, work was no longer the destination. It was her. I repeat Rick and Michonne are everything to each other (and to me 🙋🏽‍♀️).

And then Michonne smiles and looks away, smitten by Rick yet again as she so often was irl. I love how the quietness of this moment made room for the loudness of their chemistry.

I also really like the metaphor of it all so I just had to break down the ways I feel this dream metaphorically depicts Richonne's TWD love story.

Paralleling Richonne's TWD journey, Rick is lost, frustrated, in all new territory, and unsure where to turn in the dream just like he was when Michonne met him as an overwhelmed new single dad going through it at the prison.

Then in both the dream and the start of Richonne's TWD journey, Rick is instantly taken aback by the presence of this captivating woman in purple who makes him a little nervous and he tries to pass it off as stranger nervousness when deep down something else is stirring his nervousness. And that something is that intrinsic sense that he’s met his match.

And then Rick is immediately in need of direction and Michonne is the one with the answers on how to get where he needs to be. Rick needing Michonne's direction played out in a literal sense and in a larger figurative sense in TWD. One of the first things Rick had to rely on Michonne for was directions to Woodbury to save Glenn and Maggie.

And while Michonne may not have the answers to everything, like cartography, she does prove time and time again to have the exact answers Rick needs like knowing how to get him to his kidnapped friends or how to get to his job in the dream.

And as Rick and Michonne's relationship progresses she continues to guide him with him ready and willing to follow her lead.

Michonne also quickly can see Rick and the emotions he holds under the surface. And knowing he’s still anxious and unsure she offers him a genuinely motivating dose of encouragement. “You’ll get there. I believe in you.” feels similar to her encouraging affirmations like "You can find a way. We can find a way" in TWD 5.16. And both in their reality and the dream, her belief means the world to Rick.

In Rick's TOWL dream, Michonne is confident and charming and even a little teasy because Rick's mind knows her so well, and he often finds himself staring and mind being consumed by her, trying to not so subtly play off how much he adores her, similar to their dynamic in season 4.

And then in both the TOWL dream and their real-life journey, Rick's destination changes. Michonne's the destination now.

She becomes where Rick needs and wants to be and so instead of heading to the job where he’s already late, he sits awhile with her, eagerly wanting to get to know her more. And she lets him get closer, and further share her space, which elates him.

And finally, in both the dreams and their real-life journey Rick asks Michonne questions about herself and cares if she’s happy where she is. She’s honest enough that she’s not yet where she wants to be, aware she’s missing something in life (missing him). And as he's swiftly fallen in love with her he feels with every fiber of his being that he has found where he wants to be (with her.) 

I also am of the mindset that the 'work' he thinks he has to get to in the dream represents the CRM rather than home. Which I’ll elaborate more when breaking down dream #2 & #3. But I especially think this because in these dreams both he and Michonne have places they have to be but it’s not home cuz home is with each other.

And when Rick sees her on this park bench he’s more than fine with not heading straight to work/'following the call of the CRM' because he’s found what he’s looking for when she shows up. Just like irl, he’s found his safe place. His home. His Michonne. 🤍

So then this beautiful moment is quickly ended as we cut to Rick in bed alone, waking from that precious dream of just a normal quiet, and peaceful day falling in love with his wife all over again.

It’s such a painful cut to see Rick go from being immersed in the warmth of his wife to being alone in a dreary room after the trauma of chopping his hand off.

He wakes slowly, almost regretting that he’s had to wake up at all and return to reality. But I also like how the way he wakes up feels like he’s very used to these types of Richonne dreams. It seems it's his favorite part of life the last few years - going to bed and finding Michonne in his dreams to enjoy simple moments of bliss. He’s in love like they never left, y'all. And I love to see it.

So then, after waking from his dream we next get to see that Rick didn’t just hold onto Michonne through dreams but also through some very heartfelt letters and images. 🥲👌🏽

this episode was amazing. no notes. angst fuels me, so keep it coming in episode four along with some loving intimacy! 🤝

michonne is the most clever, headstrong, charismatic, fearless powerhouse of a woman in the entirety of twdu. there is no situation nor circumstance that she cannot handle. no matter the time, skill, or hardship that woman is going to do whatever she fucking wants. she’s such an admirable character, and yes this is just a fictional show but she means so much to me. tv mom forever and ever and ever. my lovebug!!!! 🫶🏼

rick… my og lovebug. his selfless, tender hearted yet courageous and dangerous personality is sooo missed recently because of these losers who love to keep playing hide the donkey. he’s been so beaten down and forced into the caged mindset, also known as stockholm syndrome. it hurts so much to see it affect him so deeply, especially in this episode. we truly get to understand just how horrified he is of losing michonne, losing judith, losing their home. it’s so layered that he’s come to the conclusion that he has to do whatever it takes to protect his wife and their children (judith for now until further notice). even going as far as pretending to break michonne’s heart just to get her to go back home for the sake of a safe and secured future. and as much as it rips his entire psyche into shreds, this man is a family man. his priority in life is to protect the ones that he loves by all means necessary.

and thank fucking HEAVENS that despite their years apart, michonne knows her husband like the back of her palm and can read him like a book!!! every word that poured out of his mouth was utter bullshit merely for safety purposes and i’m soooo glad that she understood that without even having to retaliate verbally.

Apologies if this was answered, but what are your thoughts/analysis about the natural way Oda portrays characters internalizing/repeating beliefs from others? Such as when Law word for word told Tashigi what Doflamingo had told him regarding "the weak not choosing how they die". It was rather baffling, because though Law and Doflamingo may share the "same eyes", to reiterate anything, even if true/you agree with, that someone you truly hate had said feels foreign to me (particularly because it doesn't necessarily feel like a scene where a victim hurts others the same way they were hurt?). Secondly, the amount of scenes Luffy has talking about his dislike for "weak people" or "crying" (Shirahoshi). I know Luffy had similar sentiments when meeting Shanks but to me, everytime he repeats it, I just see Ace talking. It almost feels like a subconscious way of holding onto a part of Ace. Interested to know any other instances you noticed!

To talk about the scene with Law and Tashigi we first need to keep in mind that at that point, Doflamingo was basically living rent free in Law's head as he was so focused on taking revenge on him which must have triggerd a barrage of intense emotion of hatred, pain and fear on his psyche making him slip back into his sadistic habits that he gained after the Flevance genocide. So it isn't so far fetched that he subconsciously quoted the man he saw as an inspiration for three years when his mind was most vulnerable for manipulation. However, Law puts his own twist to the meaning of this quote. when Doflamingo says "the weak do not have the right to choose how they die", he uses it to justify murder. But when Law says it, he uses it to refuse Tashigi's request to kill her. "Murder isn't my style. I'm a doctor" (- Law in ch 918) - a principle he inherited from his parents and regained after Rosinante saved him and both his literal and metaphorical heart. In conclusion, Law saying that to Tashigi was a reflection of both the people who had the most influence on his minds and actions during the whole Dressrosa saga. The words may be the same as Doflamingo's but the heart of the message carry Rosinante's love - just like Law who acts aloof and grumpy on the outside but actually has a soft heart.

When it comes to Luffy hating "crybabies", i do believe he got those words to express his feelings from Ace. I'd also like to point out that all the characters Luffy told that too were younger than him (Koby, Shirahoshi, Momonosuke) so you could say he channeled Ace's big brother energy in those instances. But it is also important to point out that unlike Ace, who would scowl at Luffy when reprimanding him for being a "crybaby" or a "weakling" (note: this is not a dis on Ace, he was going through a lot and his bad attitude is understandable), Luffy has a big grin on his face (with Koby and Shirahoshi at least, i don't remember how exactly he was with Momo, i'd have to re-read, sorry) which indicates there's no real heat behind his words since we also know what it looks like when he actually hates someone (Luffy's expressions can be scary sometimes but it's also often times very deserved reaction).

There are plenty more instances of characters internalizing and repeating beliefs of others since inherited will is one of One Piece's main themes. Some examples off the top of my head:

Fate Chapter 02. — Zoro

Roronoa Zoro X OC X Trafalgar Law

The story tells about the encounter between Yuki with Straw Hat Pirates from different worlds and different eras.

After waking up, the first thing you see when open your eyes is a strange room. At first thought it was just a long dream, but nothing changed when you woke up and still in your room on the ship.

The bed was lined with old clothes given by Nami and Robin. There was a bed in the room, a wooden-designed wardrobe and table, and lights hanging from the ceiling. You can also feel the ship rocking slightly as it drifts on the sea.

You lay on the bed and watched the light flicker, "I'm not dreaming."

Suddenly you heard a loud shelling. You felt something was wrong and quickly got out of bed ran out of the room to see what was going on. You ran in the direction of Luffy's loud noise.

The ship is being attacked by cannons, causing the ship to keep shaking. You almost lose your balance but quickly hold on to the wall to maintain your balance. You see two large ships firing at "Thousand Sunny" Luffy's pirate ship, although it's lucky that they didn't hit the ship.

You are all pirates and criminals wandering the sea. You will inevitably encounter any surprises and enemies. Raid also includes the Marine, the World Government's maritime military force responsible for maritime law enforcement and naval warfare operations.

You see that it's Marine's ship that's attacking. Ussop and Chopper are panicking and hiding for cover, Luffy and Zoro are dealing with the cannonballs and Marine.

"It would be unbelievable if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes." You were shocked when you saw Zoro split the cannonball in half with his sword and then returned to Luffy. The splitting shell stayed in mid-air and exploded. You covered your face with your hands to avoid being hurt.

Sanji ran over and took your wrist. "It's dangerous here Yuki-chwan. Don't stand there and find cover!" Before you left with Sanji, you glanced back at the scene where Luffy and Zoro were fighting. You could do nothing but pray hope both of them safe.

Sanji took you to Nami's room for temporary shelter "I'm going to help outside, you two stay here first." Then Sanji left you and Nami then left the room.

You walked back and forth in the room, worried about their safety "I wonder what happened to them..."

"I'll get dizzy if you walk like this. Don't worry, they'll be fine. They'll be done with just a few small soldiers. Just glad it's not the general who takes action himself." Nami sat on a chair, flipping through the newspaper and crossing her legs.

"It happens every day?" You wonder what they go through every day.

Nami closed the newspaper immediately after hearing your question. "Almost every day. It's a daily routine for us. Just leave it to the three of them to deal with it and it'll be fine."

When you listen to Nami talk about, you stop "Really...?"

"I know you are worried about them. We are Nakama, trusting each other is the most important thing." Nami put her hand on your shoulder and smiled.

"I understand." You‘re feeling relieved.

There was a knock on the door and the two of you paused the conversation. You didn't know what the situation was like outside. It might be a Marine invasion. Nami picked up a weapon from the table waved her hand to tell you to take a few steps back. You understood and followed her instructions to step back a little.

Nami turned the doorknob then the door opened slightly. Suddenly a voice came out, "Nami-swannnnn~Yuki-chwannnn~Are you okay~"

You hear this familiar accent "Sanji!"

"Is everyone okay?" Nami put down her weapon.

Sanji proudly lit a cigarette. "Of course. The ship just a little damaged, nothing serious."

You smiled brightly, put your hands on your chest, and let out a sigh of relief as your heart settled down "Great, you're okay."

"Goddess, Goddess~!!" Sanji was so excited, nose started to bleed, he raised his hands and shouted.

Seeing how exaggerated and weird Sanji's reaction was, you and Nami looked at each other couldn't help but laugh. Sanji pressed his hands on chest saw you and Nami's beautiful faces. His heart couldn't stand it any longer.

"Is this paradise?" Sanji danced excitedly.

Nami tapped Sanji's head lightly, "Let's go and clean up. Yuki, change into some light clothes and come back."

You looked at your outfit ,you’re so anxious to run out that forgot to change into a clean set of clothes. You left Nami's room returned to own room. You picked up the clothes on the bed one by one and looked at them. You felt a little troubled.

In daily life, except for going to school and working, you wear a designated uniform. Almost all the tops you wear when going out on the street are simple T-shirts, a jacket, cropped pants or short skirts.

The temporary clothes that Nami and Robin gave you, they were all quite revealing. Thinking of Nami and Robin, most of their clothes show off their waists. Nami's outfit today is a bikini top paired with denim tights.

They traveled across the sea every day, it was understandable that they wore little clothing as the weather was so hot. Luffy just wore a straw hat, an unbuttoned red shirt reveal his figure, and paired it with cropped pants.

Zoro is wearing a green coat, black trousers and black boots. Sanji is in a full suit, Chopper has a furry body and a pink hat. Franky wore a pair of underwear, and Robin wore a simple one-piece short skirt.

Although it may seem revealing to wear less clothes, it is not a bad thing to at least keep cool. Everyone seems to be used to it. Since this is the case, if you want to get familiar with other worlds, you must do as the locals do.

"I'm giving it all..." You sat cross-legged on the bed with sweat on your forehead, staring at the black bikini top and denim shorts.

You untied the bow of your school uniform, unbuttoned your shirt one by one, took off your shirt folded and placed it on the chair aside. Pick up the black bikini top and tie the straps around your body.

After putting on your bikini top, you slightly adjust your breasts with to make them look fuller and more natural. You unzipped and took off your school skirt, putting on a shorts and a pair of black short boots.

You look in the mirror, "I've never worn anything so revealing in my life... In the past, people would have looked at me strangely when they saw this outfit." You sighed helplessly.

The first thing you think about after leaving the room is rush to help clean it. Ussop hurriedly moved a wooden box to the other side. When he noticed you, he immediately braked and stopped.

"Yuki! Bring the two buckets of water over there to Chopper! Thank you!" After saying that, he left in a hurry.

You walked slowly with a bucket full of water in each hand "It's so heavy..."

"Hey, let me get it." Someone took a bucket from your hand from the side.

It was Zoro. He took the bucket without saying anything. You looked at him with a puzzled and ignorant face.

In your dazed state, Zoro noticed that you had changed your clothes. You are wearing a black bikini top that shows your plump breasts, and a pair of shorts that show off your slender legs and your slim waist.

You came into this world wearing a conservative school uniform, but now you are wearing Nami-style clothes. He was used to seeing Nami and Robin or other girls dressing like this, but you were the one who thought it was a bit subtle.

Maybe you come from another world, so he feels fresh and slightly special from your change. Obviously he often sees other people dressed like this but he really thinks you're hot.

While everyone was working together to clean the boat, Luffy was jumping over with a bucket of water then accidentally kicked the board and was about to fall. The water splashed on Zoro's back. Zoro put down the board and stretched Luffy's cheeks to quarrel.

"What the hell are you doing!" Zoro angrily grabbed Luffy's collar.

Luffy said "I'm sorry..." with an aggrieved look on his face.

You took a towel and handed it to Zoro who was already wet. "Dry it quickly or you'll catch a cold."

"Marimoooooo that guy." Sanji looked extremely unhappy.

He let go of Luffy took the towel you handed him. He wanted to say "Thanks..." but he hesitated.

"Huh?" You were confused by Zoro who was hesitant to speak now.

He scratched his head "Thanks, Yuki." He said it calmly.

It was the first time you heard him call your name, "You're welcome." You felt very happy.

After a while, the cleaning was completed, to the previous world you cleaned the class after class every day. Thanks to this outfit you can stay cool while cleaning on a hot day.

You bit the straw to understand what Nami meant, "Wow, then I'm really honored to be treated like this."

"Do men in Yuki's world treat women like this?" Robin asked you curiously thinking about this question.

Chopper came closer, "I'm curious too, because you seem to be not used to Sanji's personality."

"The men around me generally don't treat every woman like this. After all a sudden thoughtfulness will make you a little wary." You probably explain to them.

"Cut him." Although Zoro just continued casually, he was exuding murderous intent.

"Yohoho, I haven't even seen the bottom of Yuki-san's skirt. I must throw him into the sea and feed it to the monster until he is left with a skeleton." Brook stated his motive.

"That guy will be punished by Captain Ussop!" Ussop held his slingshot weapon.

Franky was moved after hearing what you said, "What a good girl."

"That's exaggerated, Franky." You laughed.

Brook picked up his guitar, "Ahem... Now that everyone is gathered together and welcome the new member Yuki-san, I will sing a song for everyone."

"Brook can sing?" You looked at the voice being prepared to start.

"Yuki-san, I am "Soul King" Brook, a musician and swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates." Brook said proudly, playing the guitar.

"What a cool skeleton!" Your eyes shine.

Brook started his performance singing a song with his guitar, everyone swayed and clapped to the rhythm of the music. It’s really nice to be able to listen to music performances so close. Usually you watch them on TV or on your mobile phone.

He finished his performance you immediately applauded enthusiastically and gave him an "encore!"

"Encore?" Brook was curious what you were talking about.

He walked towards you, and felt a little impatient in his eyes. Subconsciously, you immediately started to step back and lean against the table. You held the cold drink in your hands and gulped, wondering what he wanted to do.

His hands were placed on the left and right sides of you on the edge of the table, and his left foot was between your legs. He was so close to you that he was literally right in front of your eyes.

When you first see him, he is a silent man who loves to drink. But when you get so close, you have to look up at him. He is really tall and powerful, with strong muscles and a scar on his eye that highlights his wild side.

"What did you do to Yuki-chwan!" Sanji bumped Zoro's head with his forehead.

Zoro bumped Sanji's forehead back without showing any signs of weakness, "Nothing done!"

"Are you kidding me? I see you have bad thoughts about Yuki-chwan." Sanji was annoyed.

Zoro replied unhappily to Sanji, "That's what you think!"

Suddenly someone hit them both on the back of the head with a fist, "Stop it, you two idiots!"

It's Nami! She gritted her teeth, raised her fist with her left hand showed a fierce look, and put her right hand on her waist. You took the drink and ran to hide behind Nami. You took a glance and saw that the two people had stopped arguing.

"What are you two idiots doing!?" Nami was extremely angry.

Sanji pointed his index finger at Zoro "This idiot Marimo is harassing Yuki-chwan!"

"I don't! Perverted chef!" Zoro pointed back at him.

It is conceivable that they really didn't get along with each other and started arguing again.Nami punched them twice to calm them down. Nami sighed and looked at you hiding behind him and asked, "Did Zoro harass you?"

I shook my head, Zoro didn't touch any part of your body. Zoro shook his head wordlessly, and Sanji looked stupid.

Nami clapped her hands, "Okay, since we have nothing to do, let's leave now. Sanji will prepare the ingredients for dinner, and Zoro go do your own thing." After explaining, she left.

Sanji was so angry and his right foot burst into flames, "Marimo..."

"Want a fight?" Zoro smiled evilly and held the scabbard, pushing the sword with his thumb to expose it.

You already think the special effects are cool when you watch Anime, but now you can actually see with your own eyes Sanji's feet can spontaneously ignite flames, and Zoro splits a cannonball in half with a samurai sword.

"Stop! Stop fighting!" You quickly ran to stop them both.

Sanji saw you running over quickly put out the fire "Yuki-chwan! It's dangerous!"

"Hey! You!" Zoro started to panic when he saw you running over.

"It's more dangerous than the two of you fighting! Idiot!" You closed your eyes and shivered, holding the cold drink and shouting.

You are timid and cowardly, but Zoro knows you are strong at heart. Even in a strange world, you still face it with a smile as usual. You are brave enough to take a step to stop them both. He glances at you and sighs, deciding to temporarily call a truce with Sanji. Otherwise he will accidentally hurt you.

Sanji felt extremely relieved when he noticed the cute and timid appearance now. He really couldn't bear to make you sad now,so he chose to stay calm and not argue with Zoro about things.

You opened your eyes to peek, "Are you guys going to stop arguing?"

Zoro snickered, "Idiot. Don't rush out like this next time." After that he left.

"Idiot Marimo, how dare he call Yuki-chwan idiot! But for the sake of Yuki-chwan, I won't care about that Marimo." Sanji took out a cigarette and lit it.

"Phew...that's great." You smiled slightly.

Sanji suddenly grabbed your hands with both hands. "Yuki-chwan really can't rush over suddenly next time. It's dangerous." His expression was very nervous.

You nodded to show you understood.

Sanji gently touched your head, "You are so good Yuki-chwan~" Although he had a cigarette between his teeth, he still smiled at you.

The warm scene was interrupted by Sanji suddenly got a nosebleed and was startled. You panicked and started to run to find Chopper but Sanji pulled to stop you.

He took a clean handkerchief from his pocket and wiped the nosebleed. Your nervous and panic reaction made his heart melt completely, his heart was beating fiercely all the time.

"Sanji?" You tilted your head and looked at him.

He regained consciousness and subconsciously let go of your hand, "Sorry."

"Want me to help with dinner?" You asked politely.

"Leave the work in the kitchen to me. Yuki-chwan, just stay tuned." Sanji put out his cigarette.

Sanji had already started to take out a sharp kitchen knife to prepare ingredients for dinner. You took the cold drink and went back to find the others. You saw Nami and Robin discussing something, and they immediately waved to you when they saw you.

"You've been busy all afternoon. Do you want to take a shower together?" Robin invited you.

"We can have dinner after taking a shower~" Nami stretched.

"Okay." You happily followed them to the bathroom.

You walked to the bathroom together, immediately took off all the clothes and soaked your bodies in the bathtub. All the fatigue you felt disappeared at once, as if you had become one with the bath water.

Sanji brought the fragrant food to the table. Luffy smelled the smell and rushed to grab it, but was stopped by Franky. Everyone was sitting at the dining table waiting for before starting. Only Luffy was drooling.

Luffy murmured and shook his feet impatiently, "Neh... Where are Nami and the others?"

"They taking shower together." Chopper told Luffy.

"Taking a shower together?!" Sanji and Brook yelled.

The two of them imagined the three of you naked taking a bath together, playing in the bathtub, touching each other's bodies and other obscene thoughts.

"The three ladies who caused the crime." Sanji spoke with a serious expression.

"I want to help them brush their backs," Brook said frankly.

"If Nami hears what you two said definitely will be beaten." Ussop added.

When Zoro recalled that your upper body was only wearing a bikini top and shorts, he almost lost control in the kitchen just now, he didn't know why he felt this way.

The image of you sweating kept recurring in his mind, the sweat dripping from your hair slowly sliding from your collarbone to between your breasts. He admitted that you were really erotic but he still resisted the urge.

"It smells so good!" A female voice came from behind.

You, Nami and Robin changed your clothes after taking a shower and walked to the dining table to find others. Not far from the dining table, you can smell the delicious food cooked by Sanji.

Chopper waved from his seat and jumped up. Looking at his cute appearance, you happily ran over to pick him up with your hands and hold him high. He is as innocent, lively and cute as a child, reminding you of the past inadvertently.

You put Chopper back in his place, you saw an empty seat next to Zoro and sat down. Zoro took a sip of wine and glanced at you briefly to see that you were tying a high ponytail with a hair tie.

Look at you again in the off-shoulder top with a one-line neckline, exposing your collarbones and shoulders. He smelled a faint floral scent. The strange thing is that this scent can be smelled on Nami or Robin every day, but it is extra special to have this scent on you.

Luffy snatched a piece of meat and put it in his mouth to chew, "Let's eat!"

Zoro came back to his senses when he heard Luffy's yell, otherwise he would have really fallen deeper and deeper. Maybe it's because of your identity makes you particularly attractive that he has an undue desire for you.

He couldn't figure out why so he chose to give up thinking and just put a bottle of wine into his mouth and started drinking. You were shocked because it was as simple as seeing how strong he was drinking, as if the bottle of wine was just boiled water.

Remembering Luffy's huge appetite, you quickly grabbed some food put it on your plate before he finished eating. You are very happy now and it is really wonderful to be able to live a harmonious life with everyone.

WIP WEDNESDAY! except its thursday for me but wednesday somewhere in the world so its ok

wrote the second scene for my vamp sanji au!! lol it’s the calm before the storm, next part’s gonna be real angsty tho

“Yeah, I… I came back from hell to kill you.”

“No, forget about it. It’s good now.”

Sanji mulls the words over in his head, puffing on a smoke as he watches the festivities happening in Wano from the edge of the party. Sanji’s glad that Zoro had meant what he’d said, gaze hardening the moment he saw the blonde standing in front of him. Sanji’s also undoubtedly more glad that he didn’t have to fulfill that promise.

Whatever dormant Germa genes the raid suit had activated in Sanji didn’t seem to take hold in any other way since his battle with Queen; he’d gone right back to normal after beating the snot out of that T-rex (or whatever fucking prehistoric creature, Sanji doesn’t care) shithead. Sanji doesn’t know exactly how to feel about that yet.

He takes another drag from his cigarette, surveying the dancing bodies barely moving in time with the thudding drumbeats of the music that seems to come from everywhere. Immediately after Kaido’s defeat was announced, the entire country gathered for a celebration, resulting in the party presently spanning over almost the entire Flower capital. Not that Sanji blames them; the guy was a colossal asshole.

Heavy footsteps approaching Sanji’s lounging spot interrupt his train of thought, and the blonde looks up to see Zoro, carrying two big bottles of sake. He’s still bandaged up from his fight, robe open to expose the gauze all over his chest and shoulders.

“Fuck are you doing hiding out here?” Zoro grunts, sitting down on the ground next to Sanji as he passes one over. It’s cold, condensation around the outside of the glass bottle wetting Sanji's hands as he takes it by the neck.

“I’m not hiding, asshole. I’m taking a smoke break.”

“Huh. Figured you’d be trying to get your paws on some random girl by now.”

Sanji stubs his cigarette out against the ground. “First of all, none of the ladies here are ‘random girls’. Each of them are wonderful and unique in their own right. Don’t be disrespectful.”

“Do you ever shut up about women?”

“Never,” Sanji says.

Zoro pops the cap on his sake, flicking it somewhere in Sanji’s direction before he attempts to down half the thing in one go. What a fucking brute. He wipes his mouth with the heel of his palm once he’s finished, thrusting the bottle towards Sanji wordlessly.

“You already gave me one,” Sanji says, and Zoro scoffs.

“You know damn well you weren’t gonna open that.” He’s right. The label looks expensive— probably one of a kind, knowing the gifts all of the Strawhats have received from the Kozuki family already. Sanji was planning to bring it back to the Sunny, stash it in the liquor cabinet for a special occasion. He concedes and takes the bottle, tipping it back and sipping on the alcohol.

It’s sweet. Sanji’s surprised Zoro isn’t bitching about the taste. “You like this?”

“Booze is booze.” Zoro shrugs, tugging it back.

Sanji fishes inside of his yukata for another cigarette. The celebration is edging away from their spot now, music and people migrating to somewhere closer to the center of the party. Sanji give Zoro another once over, taking in the bandages wrapped all the way to Zoro’s wrists and the way they peek out from his sleeve. It’s only been a day since he fought King; he shouldn’t be up yet. “Does Chopper know you’re out here drinking?”

“What Chopper doesn’t know ain’t gonna hurt him.”

“You’re fucking horrible.”

“Shut the hell up.” Sanji laughs a little at that, and it feels the same as when he and Zoro sat together around a fire back on Zou, hunched over dying embers and making quiet conversation while the rest of the crew mingled with the Minks and Heart pirates. Sanji is also abruptly aware that the pair haven’t been able to talk like this since he… left.

“Sorry,” Sanji blurts out, because there’s really nothing else he thinks he can say. The apology hangs awkwardly in the air. Zoro spares him a sidelong glance, his face blank as he absently swishes around the remaining liquid in the bottle. Sanji watches it instead of meeting the swordsman’s eye.

“I, uh.” and Sanji does want to explain, tell Zoro everything that half the crew already knows because they were there. He doesn’t know why he clams up now, fumbling for the words he thought he had ready. “I—”

Zoro shakes his head, and Sanji’s mouth snaps shut. “Don't wanna hear it.”

“You should know what I did.”

“No.” Zoro says simply. He sighs, nails tapping lightly on the glass in his hand. “Don’t need you to tell me shit, ‘long as you’re here.”

And it’s that easy for Zoro; he’s always been the type to leave things cut-and-dried. “But I wasn't here. that’s the problem.”

“You are now,” Zoro shrugs, and Sanji doesn’t know why the gruff answer doesn’t satisfy him.

Sanji fiddles with the cigarette he never bothered to light, turning it around between his fingers.“I betrayed Luffy.”

Zoro turns to face him then, the cloth of his yukata rusting as he shifts on the grass. He sets the sake to the side, crossing his arms over his knees. Sanji musters up the courage to meet his eye, gaze shifting from the ground to Zoro’s face in the low light.

“Stop being fucking stupid,” Zoro mutters almost angrily, and Sanji is a little taken aback by the intensity in his tone. “You didn’t betray anyone. I’d kill you if you did.”

Sanji, somehow, doubts that. “…Okay.”

Water 7 Arc: Luffy and Usopp (Manga and Anime Comparison) [Part 1]

Spoiler alert: Don't keep reading if you haven't reached Water 7 Arc (Manga Chapter 333 or Anime Episode 236)

I've decided to start with this scene in particular because it shows a lot of changes that are absolutely core in the characters personalities in my opinion.

Please let me know your opinion about it or if you wish to add anything ^^ (and remember to have mercy on my English xD)

There is a lot to unpack, so I will be going page by page and directly comparing it with the Anime. 14 pages of manga compared to Anime.

(Manga reads from right to left, but the Anime screenshots are organized to read from left to right ^^U)

Before starting the comparison, a little reminder of what we are dealing with:

Luffy was informed by Galley-La shipwrights that the Going Merry could not sail anymore, and that he has to change ships. He strongly and emotionally refused to believe it and also refused to leave Merry behind, as it would be like leaving a companion... until Iceberg cuts the conversation short by doubting his capabilities as a Captain, and Luffy takes that comment to heart. (Manga Chapter 328)

On the other side, Usopp has been beaten twice by Franky's men, one while being robbed and another one while trying to recover the money he was robbed. He feels extremely guilty and like he can not face the others.

Luffy and the others found Usopp badly hurt, and broke Franky's Lair to the ground in the rage caused by seeing the poor Usopp hurt.

Luffy ends up deciding that leaving the Merry is the most responsible thing to do to protect the others. Then they all go back home.

Of course everyone is very emotional at this moment when Usopp finally wakes up, but they are trying to lift the spirits:

Now let's start the comparisons.

Luffy wants Usopp to not feel responsible for the decision he has to make (because he is not, obviously), and tries to treat the subject with positivity and cheer Usopp up. But it's still Luffy, and he is not the best with words, even if he never has ill intention, and he is also still emotional about it. But he is trying his best to maintain the smile.

Usopp is having probably one of the worst days of his life, and he is waking up to one big fear of him being a reality.

For the first 2 or 3 panels we get this (which already doesn't feel the same):

Then suddenly, we get the reactions of the others with absolute silence. The problem is... the Anime just chooses which reactions they have, because the Manga sure didn't show them!

Everyone looks tense or displeased. Specially, Nami looks dissappointed with Luffy's way of treating the subject, and Chopper seems about to start crying.

In my opinion, these reactions of the rest of the crew are completely out of character for this moment. Let's understand that they already talked about the subject and agreed with Luffy, not only because he is the Captain, but also because it's the logical thing to do.

But we are just getting started with this page.

For some reason, they decided to show Usopp making jokes about the subject, and the others just... let him talk and talk. (the reason is filler, I know)

In the Manga, Usopp tries to understand the situation as fast as possible, because it's no joke to him. He understands that something is happening or Luffy wouldn't even think about something like that. He immediately blames himself for the problem, shaking and panicking.

Also, Luffy's expression in the Anime? Why do they make him look angry at Usopp? Why would he look at his panicking dear friend with such a severe and angry look?

Finally we can go to the 2nd page:

Things start to heat up.

As you can see, all the conversation in the Manga is fast, without them stopping to look "judgingly" at one another. What the rest is doing is trying to calm them down.

Luffy hurries and tries to explain the money has nothing to do with their problem, but is getting frustrated that Usopp is pulling his tongue to say the whole truth or he won't stop blaming himself for it.

Luffy doesn't want to say out loud that Merry can't be repaired (because for him saying something out loud is making it a reality). But he also doesn't want Usopp to feel responsible when he is not, so he has to choose... and he chooses to free Usopp from guilt.

Let's remember Luffy is a very mature guy in many ways, but is also very emotional and empathetic. He feels the pain of the others and his own, and is probably overwhelmed, so he explodes.

Also, we can see how Sanji and Chopper are physically trying to stop them from escalating the situation. Sanji holds Luffy's shoulder, not only stopping him, but also grounding him so he can calm down. Chopper tries to make Usopp sit back and rest.

You can see how they don't think any of them is wrong right now, they just want them to stop fighting and talk calmly.

Now let's look at what the Anime does with this page:

We get angry faces of Zoro and Sanji for some reason, when they are clearly not angry, just worried...

Luffy and Usopp's expressions are also way more angry and violent than what they should be.

The scene keeps escalating and none of the others is really getting in the middle...

For some reason, Usopp is disrespecting not only Luffy and his position as Captain verbally and physically, but also Choppers medical advice... completely out of character.

And then we start a really stressful and completely fabricated scene:

Usopp screaming over and over demandingly until he makes Luffy angry enough he explodes... from anger.

Luffy didn't explode from anger in the Manga. He just wanted to end the problem. He is not angry at Usopp at all, he is stressed.

And also, Usopp wouldn't do any of this to Luffy.

And we never saw Sanji and Chopper getting in the middle. Why?

3rd page:

The problem seems to have stopped. Usopp is shocked by the revelation, but seems to have calmed down.

Luffy had to recognize out loud what he didn't want to say, but he assumes the problem is going to be over. They all do.

We can still see how Sanji was trying to calm Luffy down by contact, but stops when he sees he calmed down. He is very involved in all the interaction, even if he has been silent until now.

Sanji, Nami and Chopper look shaken by how out of hand things had gone for a second (because in the Manga it is fast).

Then Usopp insists.

Zoro doesn't seem pleased that Usopp talks back again.

Going back to the Anime's adaptation:

Again, Luffy looks angry and not desperate to solve the problem they are having. He looks down on Usopp, still in a defensive position.

Actually, none of the expressions are correct. They have all gone from surprised or shaken to just frown.

Was it that difficult to respect their expressions? They fill everything else with random content, but now that they had specific panels with their expressions, they decided to not put them.

Any semblance of closeness between Sanji and Luffy is completely erased.

4th page:

Usopp starts to be clearly illogical, and he knows it. But it's not out of malice, it's just his insecurities making him talk like this.

Luffy can't understand why he won't let it go now that he has the whole information, and tries to explain the situation again, in case he didn't get it. Again: he is not mad with Usopp, he is stressed.

But Usopp is too affected by everything he experienced in that horrible day to try to be rational, and it's normal and human to do so.

In the Anime:

Again, the facial expressions are completely exaggerated in the worst way possible, or straight up wrong.

At this point I'm begging the Anime to stop making them look at each other with hate.

5th page:

They all know he is saying nonsense, and start to notice there's a lot more behind everything he is saying.

Let's remember Merry is a gift to Luffy from Kaya. Also he saw the Klabautermann of the ship and believes Merry has a soul... But not only that. Usopp feels inadequate in the group. He feels like he's not enough for them, and is probably thinking that the ship, with which he shares so much, is receiving the treatment he "deserves" to receive.

The rest of the crew just don't seem to know how to aboard the problem.

In the Anime:

Again with the expressions and positions completely wrong.

Luffy and Zoro just look angry.

Sanji has lost his concerned look for a serious one and also gives his back to the whole situation. We can't see Nami's face. Chopper is not attending Usopp as urgently...

6th Page:

Luffy has sat down and is not discussing this as a friends quarrel anymore, he is starting to act like a Captain. He is not angry, he is firm.

He points out that what Usopp is saying is illogical, in a strong tone. Nami (probably) is surprised by the change of tone of Luffy. Usopp still doesn't want to listen, starting to really disrespect his Captain by giving him his back and ignoring what he says.

Sanji calls Usopp out, with his hands on his hips, clearly showing support for his Captain and disapproval of Usopp's attitude.

This is one of the first times Luffy has to put his foot down as a Captain. He usually doesn't need to. And Usopp is practically disobeying orders.

In the Anime:

Luffy's expression is completely wrong again. They keep showing him angry, not firm.

Also he is not sitting, which adds to them completely missing the change in Luffy's attitude.

The composition is also showing a weird tension, in which Usopp looks almost like a victim of a bully.

Sanji calls Usopp even softly for what we are used to hear from him, like he is trying to support him more than scold him.

And again... Luffy's expression is a complete miss.

Not only does he look like an angry child more than an adult that is discussing something serious, they also changed his nervous sweat for angry veins.

currently on episode 725 of one piece and omg there is so much I have to say❗️

Timeskip: Okay- for the most part I love everyone’s Timeskip designs and I adored seeing perona, mihawk, and Zoro BUT I HATE HATE HATE HATE. That the white washed So many of the crew Robin, Ussopp, and I think Zoro too are much paler. Sure their outfit and hair are nice but not worth the change of skin tone :/ plus Robin would look so much better in her older skin tone cause she honestly slays. On another note Luffy with the disguise was silly

Jimbei/Fishman Island: LOVE LOVE LOVE JIMBEI AND HIS DYNAMIC WITH LUFFY 😭😭😭 And Luffy casually coming back after two years and choosing to fight in a civil war and then declare war against an emperor is ✨Iconic✨ I loved the princess too and I think the way luffy was just so ‘I don’t like you :/‘ was funny, additionally Luffy just riding a kraken and reeking havoc is amazing. Also everyone’s new abilities specifically chopper and Franky’s are super neat!! In short Jimbei is peak, luffy is slay, and I love them

Law: He deserves his own tangent ✋😔 BRO OMGOGMGOGMGOMGGKMG SO SILLY‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ So cool and neat and his abilities amazing- incredible- love it! Erm- his past? Not very girlboss. I was and still am hurt from it. Corazon had so much silly potential and their dynamic had me sobbing they are so sweet and are my everything‼️‼️‼️ and doflamingo we don’t like him here!! Stand w/ law‼️‼️ additionally speaking his dressrosa disguise with the moustache whilst drinking tea? Iconic.

Dressrosa/Punk Hazard: Punk Hazard, kinda boring besides the lore behind the island that was cool! :D I think it was a good intro to the grand line, and gave a better grasp as to how strong everyone really has gotten. It additionally I think gave us an even better insight then we already have into Choppers character and I enjoyed that!! Dressrosa I’m almost finished at the time of this post and I have to say it’s amazing, from the backstories (Law and Rebecca 😭😭😭) to the revolutionary army, marine admiral, disguises and everything in between its just amazing, and 4th gear‼️‼️‼️‼️ ALSO the fighting coliseum was my favourite cause it reminded me of Pokémon and we got to see Sabo and he’s my favourite 🥺👉👈

Also the scene between Franky and Luffy where Luffy just looks up at Franky practically begging to enter for the devil fruit is so— omgogmgogmgomg it shows just how understanding the strawhats are of each others feelings and are willing to empathize with each other and go through anything for one another. It also gave somewhat of a look into how the straw hats seem to be very fragile around the topic of Ace for Luffy and are willing to do whatever to try and help him recover from that situation no matter the cost (if you couldn’t tell the strawhats dynamic is very important to me)

Sabo: Again same as law deserving of his own rant. OGMGOGMGOGMGOGJGHSUSHCJSIISDB AHHHHHHH I LOVE HIM SO SOSOSOSOOSOSOSOSOSO MUCH HES SO SILLY AND HIM AND LUFFY HAVE ME SO HAPPY 😭😭😭 He is so girl boss. Not only is he second in command to A REVOLUTIONARY ARMY‼️‼️ he’s also AN ARSONIST‼️‼️ FIGHTS WITH A PIPE‼️‼️AND HAS A TOP HAT WITH SILLY GOGGLES‼️⁉️ GIRLBOSS WHO⁉️ SLAY WHO⁉️⁉️ Anyways- His character design is actually peak the fight between him and the admiral as well as in the coliseum are amazing even if just glimpses I find them Intriguing. His fighting style is similar to the past too and it makes me sad. BUT THE PART IN THE INTOR WITH HIM AND THE FIRE WITH ACE IN THE BACKGROUND‼️‼️‼️ WHAT⁉️ UFHHHFKISB I CANNOT ✋😭 any who I am not normal about this guy he is my favourite silly and I hold him close to my heart

Summary: In the aftermath of the raid on Onigashima Luffy is hearing the voice of a god, and he wants it out of his head. The path to the One Piece is a course that can only be charted by those who agree to join together as friends and fight without taking the easy way out.

Law already knew that Kid was not the patient type, and he obviously wasn't willing to be now. He'd watched the other captain grudgingly sit through dinner with them, and then Kid had immediately pulled him aside to look at Killer and his situation. 

Law had told Luffy to make certain to tell both Caesar and Chopper to catch up with him soon. He’d need their expertise, but he sure as hell wasn’t going to tell an increasingly irritated Captain Kid to hold on while he grabbed them.

Besides, he couldn’t help but be curious. The SMILE Fruits were a curse, a gamble that sucked no matter which way it turned out, sold by Doflamingo to men desperate for the power of a devil fruit without the means to get the numbers they desired of the real thing.

The side effects were horrific and if you’d gone by the initial assessments— .permanent, terminal even. But if there was a chance of reverting it he couldn’t pass it up. Not for his oath as a doctor, and not for his curiosity as a scientist.

So he’d followed Kid along with his arms folded over his chest. “This might take time, Kid.” 

"Believe me when I say I haven't got anything else on my schedule," he said gruffly. The tatami screen rattled as Kid shoved it aside, leaning him into the room where Killer was resting. 

The masked man looked up as they entered. He seemed to have been arranging mahjong tiles in some kind of pattered, and as he saw them enter he smothered a giggle.

Law could feel the tension in the air as Kid shouldered his way in.

"Killer. Trafalgar's going to look you over. We might be able to do something about the effects of the SMILE fruit."

“Good to see you again, Killer.” Law nodded to him as he sauntered into the room and looked him over. “I’d ask how you’re feeling but I’ve got a pretty good idea.” 

"Oh I'm fantastic, doc," he said, smothering another giggle. "Just give it to me straight when you have the info. I'll try not to be a terrible patient."

Carefully, Killer disengaged the latches on his masked helm and slipped it off. Thick locks of golden blond hair cascades downward and the way his bangs covered his eyes only made the twisted smile that was pulled across his face even more obvious and bizarre. 

Kid let out a huff of breath from where he lurked in the corner, but didn't take his eyes off the scene.

“If you are, I’ll just switch your heart into a better patient’s body for a little while.” Law drawled, before he paced forward to look at him carefully. “I need to confirm something.” 

Killer nodded. "Alright…."

“Try not to smile. Tell me your feelings when you try to maintain a sober expression.” Law pointed at him.

Tears beaded at the edges of Killer's eyes, and if anything his smile got even larger.

"Not to be a baby or anything, but it kinda hurts. Pretty funny, right? They say it hurts to smile– more like it hurts not to." He started giggling again and immediately went to cover his face. Before he did, however, Law noticed the way the muscles of his face were twitching and spasming.

The aura of despair and rage from Kid's corner of the room was palpable.

“....” Law crossed his arms. “...they really are a curse. Worse than the damn Devil Fruits ever were.”

He knelt beside him and held up his hand. 

“I’m gonna fix this. Just need to find the trick to it. If it’s just impacting the body and not the ‘heart’, then extracting it should be possible for my awakened op-op power.” 

Giggling, Killer put a hand over his chest. "The heart, huh?"

Kid thumped the support beam of the wall. "It didn't change his damned heart," he hissed. "It couldn't have. He's still– he's still Killer, I know it."“I know, Kid.” Law looked over his shoulder “which is why I think it’s possible. Keep your temper in check, okay?”

He looked at Killer for a long moment. “It's just a matter of learning what to extract. If I pull the wrong pieces of you out, the damage could be much worse.” 

"My body's your playground," Killer said, giggling and holding up his hands. "What have I got to lose? I'm not afraid to die."

"Tch." The one small noise from Kid in the corner said all it needed to. He was the one who was afraid.

“Your captain’ll shoot me in the back if I fuck up,” Law drawled with a wry smile, “and I’m not keen on wasting the energy to dodge myself out of the way. Don’t worry. You’ll live, that’s my doctor’s oath.”

He held out his hand. “The question is this, Killer— how is a SMILE absorbed? Is it the same as a devil fruit? Or is it as flawed as the rest of its makeup?” 

"And you can find that out, right?" Kid said, not refuting Law's comment in the least. "By looking inside his body? Or do we need to wait for the clown and the reindeer to show up."

“I’m going to take a look,” Law said. “Clown and Chopper will show up soon enough to lend their expertise.”

WIth a twist of his fingers he activated his power. “Room.”

Chopper cheerfully sorted through the medicine chests he’d begun to stockpile during their adventure on the land of Wano. Some was gifted by local doctors and grateful patients, some purchased with the copious rewards they’d been given, and some simply found through gathering outside the Flower Capital’s limits.

It was amazing. Wano was a beautiful country, and its medical practices were so different from what he’d grown up used to. Different herbs, different antibiotics, different plants to be mixed and methods to mix them. He’d gathered a veritable stockpile all for the Straw Hat crew when they set sail.

Currently, he was sorting packets of medicinal balls with a big smile on his face. “I wonder if I can make them taste a little sweeter…”

The door behind him slid open and there was a little knock on the frame.

"Yoohooo, oh Doctor Chopper…."

It was the familiar cooing of his recently acquired assistant, Caesar.

Chopper turned with a wide smile, holding up the medicine balls in his hands. “Dr. Clown! Look at these! I made them myself with local plants!” 

He couldn’t hold back his excitement, the absolute joy of having nailed down the local science. 

Caesar glanced at them with what Chopper hoped was appreciation, clasping his hands together.

"How quant… and ah, self-sufficiently practical!" he declared, with an uptick of enthusiasm. He floated into the room, and leaned in, giving one of the medicine balls a sniff. HIs lips twisted as he smelled it.

“I’m thinking of adding sugar to them.” Chopper helpfully added. 

"Yes, that might… help," Caesar admitted, pulling away and waving his hand over his nose. "As long as it doesn't neutralize the absorption of any of the other ingredients, obviously."

“Obviously!” Chopper nodded seriously with a wide smile “Will you help me test them, Caesar?”

He looked up at the man with his wide and expressive eyes, and his best smile “I think they’ll make a great addition to our office on the Sunny! Wano’s got a fascinating medical culture!”

"Fascinating I'll agree with," he nodded, tugging on his gloves. "They've certainly made the most of their barbaric, closed off backwater, haven't they? By the by, have you seen Law? I heard we were supposed to do something about that little difficulty with the off-label SMILE fruit usage."

“....” Chopper rubbed the back of his neck. “Last time I heard he was kissing the Captain��but they shoulda finished by now. You know?”

He wasn’t quite sure if ‘barbaric’ was the choice of word he’d personally use, but sometimes— always…Caesar was just kind of like that. 

"Well I suppose there's no telling how long something like that would take," Caesar said, stroking his chin. "But I hate to waste the time. You don't happen to have any of the poor unfortunates lying around here that we could experiment on in the meantime, do you?"

“Well…..” Chopper tilted his head to the side with a pensive huff, tapping his hoof on the ground. “there’s the people from Ebisu…a bunch of them are in town to discuss treatment…” 

"Fantastic!" Caesar declared. He picked up the travel medical bag in one arm, and Chopper by the back of his collar in his other arm. "Let's go pay them a visit!"

“Y–yeeeeeep!!” Chopper squeaked as he was hiked up by the scruff of his neck “Caesar!!!”

"Whoops, sorry about that, doctor!" He grinned over-wide, and carefully tucked Chopper in the crook of his elbow instead. He turned a sickly sweet expression on him. "Better?"

Chopper huffed softly as he hung in the crook of Caesar’s arm, feeling the flush of mild embarrassment roll through him. “...yeah, but if the patients call me cute for this I’m gonna be cross.” 

"You soften my image, though, doctor," he cooed as he strode out of the room.. "I'm too intimidating sometimes."

Chopper looked up at him with a tilt of his head and a thoughtful “hmmmMMM”

“Yeah, your bedside manner’s always been a little rough, Doctor Caesar! But don’t worry!” he giggled. “I’m sweet enough for the both of us.” 

"Too true, Doctor Chopper, too true."

After the long examination, Law sat in the room smoking silent with Kid and Killer.

Law's abilities with the Op-op fruit let him cure a lot of maladies that would be otherwise incurable, including his own. Amber Lead Syndrome had been dangerous because the presence of the mineral in the body led to uncontrolled calcium production in the body's vain attempt to isolate the toxin. The more of the lead present, the faster the uncontrolled mineral production in the body. But even with very small amounts, the mineral production will build up sooner or later.

It was a destructive cycle. But one that could be mitigated simply by locating and removing the lead from the body. After that, there was nothing triggering the uncontrolled production, and what had been built up in the meantime could simply be removed as well.

The SMILE fruit's chemistry wasn't like that. Unlike the Amber Lead the makeup of the SMILE fruit was bound inseparably to other necessary chemicals in Killer's body. Law could remove them, but doing so would immediately cause his body to shut down and die from the lack of them.

It made it infinitely more complicated, rather like the topic of Devil Fruits minus the more esoteric details. Law frowned as he finished his examination.

“Do you want the bad news first or the good news?” 

Speaking at the same time, Kid said "bad news" and Killer said "good news."

They looked at one another, Killer shrugged, and giggled, and gestured at his captain. "Bad news it is."

“Good, because at the moment I don’t got any good news.” Law grumbled as he pushed his hair back “but I’m workin’ on it.”

He paused a moment to look Kid in the eyes. “It's not like some of the other conditions I’ve treated. I can’t just pull out the aspects of the SMILE from his body given the way they’ve bonded to his necessary functions. If I just pull out every trace of the chemical composition of the SMILE fruit’s unique makeup, he’ll die. Almost instantly.” 

"Fuck!" Kid slammed his hand on the floor and Killer winced.

"Captain…."

Law felt the tension in the room as first mate and captain looked at one another.

It was like a knife. The last thing any doctor wanted to do, even a pirate doctor, was tell a patient the difficulty of the procedure…especially with such a low chance of success.

It reminded him of all those years ago when Cora…Rosi…had dragged him from hospital to hospital only to be told the same thing over and over. ‘There’s no hope, and no way to fix this’. 

Before he had found the words to break the silence, as if there were any, there was a sudden and jarring knock on the frame of the door as it was slid open.

"Hellloooooo, anybody in here? Law? Anybody?" Caesar stuck his head through the door. "I heard from the servants you were hanging out in here."

Law heard a throaty growl from Kid, which was immediately smothered as Killer put his hand on his captain's shoulder with an unfortunate giggle.

“Law?” Came Chopper’s high-pitched and cheerful voice as well “we were supposed to meet up for the Killer treatment! Can we come in?”

“GUGhghghghhhh” Law grit his teeth with a low grumble. “you …CLOWN , Caesar you gotta read the room, man!” 

"I did and it says 'guest room' on the plaque outside," Caesar said, stepping into the candle light. He dropped Chopper down to the floor and gave him a pat on the head. "Guess who just got back from a medical call? No need to guess, actually it's us! What have you been up to here?"

“We thought you were still kissing Captain Luffy!” Chopper chirped without a car as he landed on his hooves and dusted himself off. “So we’d wound up meeting with some of the pleasures and taking some samples to analyze together! But it looks like ya started without us…”

“Yeah uh, Kid didn’t wanna wait.” Law said as he gestured to Killer “I examined him as well. That fucking fruit of yours really did a number on him.”

He looked pointedly at Caesar. 

Caesar leaned in to look at Killer's face with an exaggerated grimace on his own.

"Yeeesh! So I see! I toooold everyone to wait for the final version but nooo," Caesar shook his head, gesticulating dramatically. "A 10% success rate was good enough for them, and damn the consequences! Well, here are the consequences."

Killer giggled at that. There was no telling whether or not he actually found it funny, but it was doubtful.

“And now the consequences are my fucking problem, Caesar.” Law jabbed his finger towards him “so why don’t you tell me exactly what goes into them, and how they bind to the internal chemistry of their host. I think I can pull it outta him, but I can’t kill him in the process!”

Chopper’s brow furrowed. “well..I mean….the issue is that it’s binding too closely with the natural body chemistry, right?” 

"Exactly!" Caesar said, giving Law a rather withering look. "I was just about to tell you my findings from the samples so there;s no need to get all shirty with me! It's not like we actually need to find a way to unbind them anyway! All we have to do is flush them out of the system while we introduce the correct chemical cocktail resupply to the body at the same time."

“Exactly!” Chopper echoed. He jumped up and down. “see? Like, the problem is the body starts shutting down. But if we reintroduce the chemical resupply as you remove it, Doctor Law, then we can keep the body alive until the SMILE’s influence is removed! We could even cure Gifters this way, though ah, the physical transformations would likely take some messing with.”

Law’s brow furrowed. “...that’s true. We can’t do it all at once, the body won’t be able to process it…but if we do it slowly with an IV drip and my power…” 

"I've already isolated the correct chemical cocktail for reintroduction," Caesar purred pridefully. "A simple matter after comparing the blood samples to the SMILE fruit's formulation."

Kid stood up all at once, crushing his burning cigarette in his hand. "So you're saying that you can do it. You can cure him?"

"Absolutely," Caesar nodded. "Why we could even do a chemical flush without Law's abilities but that would be ah, significantly more prolonged and painful. But doable."

“Tch.” Law crossed his arms “if we’re doing this we’re all doin’ it together. If we can mitigate suffering by making it a little faster than you’re gettin’ my help. I gave my word.”

“W-well yeah! That’s what we’re saying!” Chopper stomped his hoof. “We worked hard and WE isolated the correct chemical!”

He looked up at Caesar with a pout “I helped too!” 

Caesar put a hand on top of Chopper's hat and looked at him with a disgustingly sweet smile. "You were a huge asset to the project, Doctor Chopper. Indispensable. Like I was saying, we could do the whole thing without Law– but he couldn't do it without us."

Kid balled his fist. "Listen you three, I don't care who does it or how it happens. All I care about is that you fix what that poison did to my first mate. Or I will fucking lose my shit."

Law’s brow furrowed as his jaw set. The last thing he wanted was for fucking Caesar Clown to lord it over his head that the success of the operation was indispensable without him. Chopper he could take. Chopper was cute enough to let it pass. But Caesar brought back so many damned memories.

He took a deep breath and smiled grimly. This was the duty of a doctor, even when you wanted to punch a man’s face in. “Yeah. We’ll do it. Don’t worry , Kid.” 

Killer was giggling again, but this time his smile– however stretched it was– was probably genuine.

When Basil found Kid, the captain was squatted alone in a hallway, furiously puffing on an almost finished cigarette. There were several burned out cigarette butts on the floor next to him. He said nothing as Basil approached.

To say he hesitated wasn’t quite accurate…but Basil took a moment to regard the man as he rubbed the space where his arm once was, now replaced by a straw facsimile. Internally, the cards flipped and turned in an internal reading before he dismissed it.

He didn’t need to rely on the fates for this– this was a matter for men, and not cosmic calculations.

“Captain,” he announced, “may I join you?” 

Kid lifted his own singular flesh arm in greeting and made a gesture that obviously meant something along the lines of 'be my guest'.

Basil eased himself down into a cross legged sitting position beside him, brushing the strands of his hair over his ear with a glance sidelong at him as he rooted in his pocket for his own hand rolled cigarettes. “It’s been one of those days, hasn’t it?” 

"Sure fucking has," Kid growled. He ground the cigarette out on his metal arm and grabbed another out of his pack. Then he shoved the pack in Basil's direction.

Basil took one with a thankful nod of his head and pulled his lighter from his pants, engraved with the death card from his deck. “This may be impertinent, but I am a member of your crew now if you’d like to talk about it.” 

"Impertinent," Kid snorted. "Whatever. It's fine. They're working on Killer right now. The docs."

With a laugh, Basil snapped his lighter shut and leaned his head back on the wall. “Should I change my word choice?”

He closed his eyes. Killer, the man who Kid was closest to who’d been poisoned by the SMILE…despite the blood between them, Basil hoped he was alright. “The doctors are working on him? Is the prognosis good?” 

"You're fine," he grumbled. He snatched the lighter out of Basil's hand and lit his own cigarette with it, before immediately offering it back. "I donno. They seem to think so. It's all way over my head."

Basil chuckled as he took it back, and waved his fingers. In an instant it was gone,slipped back into his pocket with sleight of hand.

“Even if I don’t necessarily trust them all, they seem to be good doctors. If they say it’s good– then Killer will likely be back to you, and back to normal. "

"Yeah," he breathed, taking a long suck of cigarette smoke. Every muscle in the man's face was tense. Even more tense than usual. "If I walk into that room and Killer's dead… I don't know that he's gonna stay the only one."

Basil closed his eyes “if that’s the way it turns out, Captain Kid, I shall assist you…and not only because you took me in. Killer saved my life in that burning palace.”

He tilted his head with a half smile. “I know you’re not a man who values mysticism…but…may I give the card’s prediction to you?” 

Kid was quiet for a moment, and then he snorted. A puff of smoke rolled from his nostrils.

"Sure. Why not. Might as well use my crew's skills."

Basil waved his hand, and his cards floated out of his pack to shuffle themselves. 

“Might as well.” He winked at him. “...perhaps it’ll show good fortune in your coming days, hm?” 

Kid grinned. There was little humor in it, but it was something. He scooted closer to Basil.

"I could use some of that."

Basil’s smile grew a touch wider. It was nice to see, even with the grim air of it, that Kid could still smile in these troubling times. He’d been there so very recently himself, knowing intimately the hurt of one’s crewmates being in danger.

He waved his hand and the cards circled before him in a pattern for reading, face down. 

“Then let’s hope the cards favor us, hm?” He glanced sidelong at him. “and if they do not…we’ll have to twist fate until they do.” 

Kid's grin widened. "I like the sound of that."

Caesar had put Killer under sedation while they worked– to mitigate the stress on his body, he'd said. Law took the man apart down into the smallest pieces, section by section, while Chopper carefully monitored his vitals and managed the dispersal of the chemical IV.

It was detailed, anxious, picky work.

As a surgeon, the situation could have been better. They could have had a better operating room, better tools, a better situation. But Law was anything if not thorough and careful in his work. He was proud to be a doctor…and he was proud of his work with the others.

Killer was sleeping soundly, it was almost time to wake him up and test their theory. His vitals were holding steady— it was only a matter of if he’d be himself when his eyes finally opened.

Even Caesar was quiet for the moment. He'd been shockingly calm and composed through the whole operation.

Killer's chest rose with a deep breath, and he shuddered. Law watched the muscles in his body twitch.

Law backed up, as Chopper nervously wrung his hoof-tipped hands together with a furrow of his brows over his face mask.

“I hope this worked,” Law heard him say.

There was another shuddering breath, and Killer's eyelids fluttered. The muscles in his face twitched again– and his punishing smile relaxed into a neutral expression as he opened his eyes.

“Good morning, Killer.” Law pulled off his gloves with a lopsided grin. “Tell us how you’re feelin’. Really emote it.” 

Killer slowly sat up and rubbed his jaw with his hand. He rolled his tongue over his lips, and he scowled.

"Honestly? I feel like absolute shit."

“But you’re scowling.” Law said with a widening grin. “Welcome back to the world of the pissed off, Mr. Killer.” 

Caesar clapped his hands together. "Fantastic! The operation was a complete success."

Moving right along to Rescue on Ryloth

Howzer's face when Rampart threatens Hera oh god, he hates this. Despises it even.

Howzer trying to talk him down as if Rampart is anything but a scumbag. He doesn't know who's responsible but he knows it wasn't Cham damn it. And of course he wants to look for Hera himself because that way he can HELP HER.

Omega trying to fix Gonky <3 And during all this apparently this is the first time she's been told he's a defective unit, it's the way that Gonky can't fulfill the one thing he's been created to do and they don't make a big deal out of it they just bring him with them because they're defective too and they love him.

Hunter last episode like 'hey Omega made a friend :)' to this episode with 'Omega's friend is instantly and immediately in mortal peril' This kind of thing always happens to them.

Children often overreact! are you using your vast experience with a wide variety of children on that assessment Tech? You weren't even aware children needed friends.

Hunter trying AGAIN to back out of doing anything and being put on blast by a 12 year old.

I love every time Hunter stops everything like a hunting dog because he Sensed something. They've never defined anything about how his senses work just he is Aware of things when necessary for the plot.

I forgot how he took down the probe droid by just fucking goomba stomping and stabbing it.

Honestly if everything were the same but Crosshair wasn't here, I think they wouldn't have tried to back out the second time. But having Crosshair there both ups the chances of them dying or of him dying, and avoiding him is the only way they know of having that not be a possibility. They don't know his chip is out yet, so as far as they know going near him will earn them another 'aim for the kid' moment. They can't reach out to him, he doesn't understand what's going on in his own head, IT HURTS OKAY.

Sign #2 that Crosshair is more himself. He put his fucking ass on Rampart's desk.

Rampart has zero patience for being talked back to and unfortunately unchipped Crosshair is incapable of not talking back, especially about his squad.

Honestly though I'm obsessed that Chopper has been with Hera for so long because like her parents met the murder droid that craves blood and violence and went 'yeah this is a good friend for our daughter'

Howzer gets to me every time, he wants to get through to his squad he refuses to abandon them, even if it kills him. And let me tell you on the first watch through I was SOOOOO SURE HE WAS GOING TO GET KILLED. But of course we get our big sign that Crosshair is Different than last time with the arrest order. I NEED to see theses two interact again damn it, it would be very reasonable for Howzer to be Pissed at him given the whole arrest thing but he doesn't know how big a deal it is that he was not sniped here instead.

"If a war is coming, it will be their fight as much as ours." Another reason I think they won't be retiring at the end is that I think there is going to be a bittersweet aspect to the fact that, despite everything, I don't think they're going to be able to give Omega the childhood that Hunter especially desperately wants to give her. They can change how they think of themselves, they can change what they do, but they can't change the fact that war is coming and no matter how hard they try to keep her away from it, there won't be anywhere to run after a while.

Honestly love that this is the biggest motivator behind Crosshair wanting them to join the Empire isn't this specifically, they're in danger for going against the Empire but IF ONLY THEY WERE FIGHTING FOR THE EMPIRE. No more danger!

Never caught this before but it looks like he smiles slightly at the end there but it's so damn quick it's hard to tell. Finally Crosshair has an idea! (it's not a great one but it IS an idea.)

Franky is our man for tech, lights, and sound

Brooke is on it for music and some sound

Lastly Jimbe is here because he retired but is helping the gang make some amazing musical (teacher who helps)

Ace and the white beard pirates are a group that goes around doing musicals on the road too, but mainly stationed in one area

Marines can be the government or even critics

Sabo and revolutionaries do postmodern stuff

Mihawk is king at fight choreography while perona is out here with costumes

Some of the crews are actually doing some stuff as actors too, like they aren't just crew

"Why are you pointing your gun at my son? Put it down!"

This line has been bouncing around my brain for weeks, because of what it says about Kit's and Chopper's relationship, and how that in turn informs Chopper's character arc.

Kit's just been shot by Chopper. He probably doesn't think his son would go so far as to kill him, but he didn't believe he would be shot by him either, and that just happened. But in that moment, his immediate reaction is to yell at his henchmen to stand down.

Because out of the two possible risks here – he dies, or he has to see his son die – he vastly prefers the former.

Compare and contrast the similar scene between Shin and Thana in 3 Will Be Free. Thana cares for his son, may even love him, but when Shin betrays his father, Thana doesn't hesitate to throw him in with Neo and Miw to be killed.

Kit, on the other hand, only points a gun at Chopper for a second before turning it towards Nueng (who is unarmed, cradling Palm, not a threat at this moment). He is certainly angry with Chopper. He wants to punish Chopper, for stepping out of line, for being disobedient enough to choose those two over him. But he doesn't ever want Chopper to die.

And Chopper doesn't want Kit to die. (In this, he is of course entirely similar to Shin, who also cries over his asshole father, except Chopper gets his wish. Kit survives.)

In a show full of daddy issues, Chopper is closer to his father than any of the other characters. Nueng's dad was distant, Palm's harsh, Ben's homophobic. Chopper is used to being by his dad's side, the apple of his eye. Used to being told that everything Kit does, he does for him. And no, Kit doesn't listen when Chopper protests that he doesn't want it, but what BL father ever properly listened to his son?

I don't know if Kit was the kind of dad to give piggyback rides and come to school concerts, but it wouldn't surprise me.

And that's half of the reason it takes Chopper so long to stand up against his father. Resisting abuse is hard, but resisting love is hard in a different way. To look at someone who has cared for you, who you have cared for, and sever that bond in a way that hurts both emotionally and physically. To have to make that sacrifice to save not only yourself, but others, because the person who was so kind to you was a monster to others, and in order to keep their love you have to become someone else entirely.

It is, in its heightened, soap opera way, a quintessentially queer experience.

The other reason it's so hard for Chopper to take a stand is that he is by far the most empathetic person on the show. He feels for everyone. His father, yes, and his beloved cousin, but he also feels for Ben even as Ben is pursuing Nueng. He feels for Palm when he senses Palm's awkwardness in his new employment. He feels for the guy who gets his finger cut off as punishment by Kit.

And what does he do in the finger-cutting scene?

He turns away.

Empathy isn't always positive. Empathic distress is a term used when someone is so overwhelmed by other people's emotions that it starts to hurt them, and that's a common cause of burnout and can be a hindrance to actual help and compassion. You don't want a surgeon who starts crying in the operating room.

Chopper wants everyone to get along. He wants everyone to be like him, and not hurt anyone. But not everyone is like him, and someone is going to get hurt. The longer he waits to act, the worse the situation gets. Chopper has been trained to shoot, but it's not until the end that he can steel his heart enough to do it – and even then, just until his father is arrested. Then he's swept up by his emotions again, taking on all the guilt that Kit ought to be feeling.*

"You are nothing like me," Kit admits at the end. He spits it out in anger and disgust, a curse – but in a way also a blessing. At last, he truly sees his son, and through that, Chopper is finally set free.

*A couple of thoughts from Scandinavian children's fantasy: I've been thinking about the Shamer Chronicles, Drakan who does so much evil and feels no shame vs. Rosa who does no evil and feels so much shame. Also, the argument from The Brothers Lionheart about how Jonatan can't kill anyone and Orvar says, "If everybody was like you, evil would get to rule forever!" and Skorpan counters by saying that if everybody was like Jonatan there would be no evil. But I'm not entirely sure where I'm going with either of those thoughts, so that's why they're stuck in the footnote. :-)

OPLA thoughts

I decided I wanted to sit down and pour out my thoughts on Netflix’s Live Action One Piece. I’m going to start by saying this: It was a beautiful adaptation. You could feel the love from everyone involved in every single scene. 

Before we fully dive into this, I want to make a mini disclaimer that, yes, there will most likely be spoilers.

Let’s start with an easy one, the soundtrack. One of the things I love about the anime is the music and I can say the same about the live action as well. Sonya Belousova and Giona Ostinelli knocked it straight out of the park with every track. The sound that left me when I heard Bink’s Brew in the background could only be described as a surprised squeak. And then, in episode 4, when our crew gets the Going Merry…I teared up. We Are?! In the live action?? Absolutely brilliant. But let’s talk a bit about some of the original tracks. “Chop Chop Cannon” might be my favorite. I can’t explain why, I just love the circus music. Arlong’s theme went so hard I don’t even know where to start. Belousova herself stated that “Wealth, Fame, Power” is a combination of Luffy and Roger’s themes, and that Roger’s theme is Luffy’s in reverse. If that doesn’t clue you in on how fantastic this soundtrack is, I’m not sure what will. So, if you get a chance, I highly recommend simply listening to the soundtrack. I can’t lie, that’s what I’m doing as I type this out.

Another easy bit to talk about: the cast. Everyone, from our main crew to the villains and even the side characters were perfectly cast. 

The Strawhats especially had me smiling from ear to ear. Iñaki Godoy’s performance as Luffy has a special place in my heart. He embodies the purehearted energy that Luffy is full of so well. I’ve seen little complaints here and there about certain scenes of him “refusing food” but you need to see the context of when he does and why. For example, one of those scenes happens when Zoro is hurt. Luffy wouldn’t sit there and have a feast when his friend is hurt. That’s not our captain. I could probably write a paragraph on each actor and their performance…But that would turn this into an essay and I don’t think anyone wants that. 

Initially, when the trailer first dropped, I was unsure of Arlong and the Fishmen. But after seeing the episodes, they were so well done. Arlong was just as threatening and scary as he was supposed to be. The use of prosthetics instead of CGI was a wonderful choice and only added to the beauty of the show. It gives me a lot of hope for how they could handle Chopper in the future as well.

I said this before, but I love the fact that things are different in the live action. You get to experience these characters and story beats again in a way that feels so new it’s almost like you’re seeing it for the first time again. I constantly wish I could go into One Piece blind again, and this adaptation sort of allows me to do just that. Things I thought wouldn’t make me cry again, definitely did. Two of the biggest examples being Sanji's goodbye to Zeff and the Baratie, and Nami asking for help. 

There are also SO many Easter Eggs for fans to find. I won’t point them all out, that would turn this into a longer thing than necessary, but it adds so much to the series. Things as small as known characters wanted posters to things as obvious as Nami reading the story of Nolan to Zoro.

Now, this isn’t to say that this adaptation is without faults. Nothing is perfect. One of the bigger complaints I’ve seen and have to agree with, is that Usopp and Sanji should have been more present in their respective arcs. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we get a season 2 and we get to flesh out their characters more. It’s what they/we deserve. I don’t fully get why we introduced Garp so early either, or kept Koby and Helmeppo around for so long. I don’t think it was a bad choice per se, just an odd one. It does have me wondering about the next meeting, if the live action gets there that is. Hopefully it does, the War arc would be fantastic in the live action.

It has been an absolute joy to see people who have never given One Piece a chance before, watch it now. Oda created something special and it’s amazing to see new fans of all ages come out of this adaptation. These new fans are in for a wild ride, especially if we get more. With Loguetown and Alabasta set up as our next arcs, the future of this series is looking bright. If they thought the reception of these 8 episodes was great, just wait until they introduce us to Chopper and Robin. Crocodile remains one of my favorite One Piece villains and seeing him in live action would be a dream come true.

one piece brain rot pt. 2

plot twist! its me rating their arcs. (MY OPINIONS!!) ((some are in order?)

romance dawn: 6/10. Solid intro for the show though! Zoro'a episode was sad + funny

orange town: 7/10. a bit slow paced, but it was great overrall. Shushu's backstory and buggy make it up though, a plus one.

syrup village: 5/10. MY BAD YALL. i remember being sleepy most of the time, captain kuro was a meh for me though.

baratie: 8/10. introduced sanji here and i fell in LOVE. the scene where mihawk appeared and sparred with zoro was great. it got very interesting + a bit of sanji's backstory.

arlong park: 8/10. i remember for always being pissed off at arlong so bad. an amazing opponent, nami's backstory was so fucking sad and i have to give it a plus one. the so felt relief when luffy defeated arlong was so fucking great.

lougetown: 6/10. i forgot 90% on what happened at lougetown tbh. but i did remember dragons appearance!

whiskey peak: 7.8/10. vivi mostly made me so pissed off at this arc (i love vivi now btw), zoro and luffy was awesome at this arc. they carried.

drum island: 9.8/10/ FUCKKK i cried so much during choppers backstory and on how luffy doesnt see him as a monster. it was so heartwarming and SO SAD??????????????????? LIKE WHO COULD EVER HURT CHOPPER?? VERY UNDERRATED.

alabasta: 9.5/10. shiitttttt dont get me STARTED. robins entrance was so fucking surprising? sanji's "mr prince" was so (redacted)). crocodile vs luffy was so ... THRILLING? if thats the right word

jaya: 6/10. i gave this a 6/10 cuz blackbeard pisses me off tbh

skypiea: 1000000/10. LOVE THIS ARC. very slow-paced but it was worth it. cried lots during this arc, eneru ON TOP

long ring island: 4/10. sorry all but i slept majority of the episode cause foxy and his crew pisses me off so much (esp the girl) + VERY slow-paced. but aokiji introduction was goated though

water 7: 9/10. loved it, the world building was SO GOOD??? villains were great tho, but mostly pisses me off too.

enies lobby: 1000/10. FUCL THIS ARC WAS SO FUCKING GOOD AND FOR WHAT??? PEAK fiction. the fights, robins backstory, luffy was INSANE.

post enies lobby: 8/10. cute, coby and luffy interaction and garp too

thriller bark: 8/10. the villains were fun BUT GECKO MORIA WAS SO PISSY? i love perona though. that one scene of nami made me uncomfortable.

sabaody island: 9.8/10. PEAKKKKKK!! kidd and law was introduced and i LOVED it. the celestial dragons pisses me off though. was relieved that luffy punched the shit out of that one (heart eyes)

amazon liy: 9/10. I??LOVE??BOA HANCOCK?? her backstory made me feel sad. BUT RAYLEIGHHH// HEYYYY...

The Calm before the Storm

Palm's unmasked smile for Nueng, full of love. Nueng fixing his boyfriend's hair.

Palm & Nueng being lovey-dovey on their date 💗 I was smiling until my cheeks hurt because of their cuteness.

Everything seems to be perfect: Beautiful beach, just them alone undisturbed, until ...

... they remind us and throw it in our faces that nothing is in fact perfect and Palm and Nueng are going to be separated in near future.

To cleanse my heart and delude me into thinking everything is okay: Palm lovingly looking at Nueng who plays with Palm's chest while explaining this damn myth.

Yet another foreshadowing - Is this the beach where Nueng, Palm's other half, will come and meet him once a year just like the cowherd and the weaver girl?

They were actually never safe, even on the island, it was just an illusion/wish Nueng had. And even though in this scene nothing happens, it reminds Nueng and the viewers of the constant danger. (Sidenote: I love the hand holding)

The intense eye contact! The tension! (Going feral) Both look so gorgeous 😭 I'm so happy, that Ben and Chopper's relationship is progressing 💗

Chopper looks so intimidating.

Chopper stopping Ben from beating Aun, because he doesn't want Ben to get his hands dirty like him. Chopper often fights and is used to it, but Bent isn't. And Chopper wants to stay it that way.

Chopper's face when Ben said he had to admit liking men when he was not ready. 🥺

Even though Palm's mother left Palm she does love him. Is she a good mother? Absolutely not. Is she selfish? Yes, but she is honest about it. And I can't bring it over my heart to hate her.

Palm definitely will be forced in near future to choose between duty and heart. But regardless of what he chooses, the outcome is the same as his duty and his heart are intertwined and aim to do one thing - to protect his love Nueng.

Done watching the RE4R playthrough…

I still don’t like the new Ada VA's style but it seemed it got slightly better towards the end of the game.

Due to the VA’s performance, I found myself shipping Leon & Luis more than my absolute fav ship of Leon & Ada lol.

That aside, how do I feel about the Aeon ship?

I have mixed feelings. Spoilers under the cut.

Leon is so cold & bitter towards her initially. Ouch. So understandable.

And you can see Ada being disappointed at his frosty reception.

As the game goes on, Ada gives Leon tips and he seems appreciative. Even teasing her of being an encyclopaedia.

That scene on the boat, it's so different. That’s as close to a heart-to-heart talk as we can get. She reassures him that he’s still the same person from Raccoon City while he questions her motives here and she’s coy as always. But seriously Leon, if she’s using you again, she would not have called you multiple times in the castle.

I was a little miffed they removed the scene of her saving his ass against Krauser. But they amped it up when she saved his ass against Saddler. When the stakes were so high and Leon was in agony and at risk of turning, she stepped in to save him, creating rubble to block Saddler from perusing Leon. I did like how Leon angled his head towards the rubble for a split second before continuing forward to the lab with Ashley.

And lmao Leon, you shoot Ada’s ropes to let her fall onto the hard, metal walkway below? I guess since she survived her fall in raccoon city, he assumes she won’t break her legs while falling unconscious. Pfft.

I love their battle couple action sequence against Saddler. chefs kiss

The scene at the end where he looks so hurt & betrayed again as she takes the sample. And when he rejects her offer of riding the chopper with her, you can see her mask drop as she turns away from him.

The post-credits scene of her looking at him safely riding away on the jet ski before she goes into business mode. Damn that turmoil.

I am loving this emotional pain!

Still, I am kind of disappointed that they removed “She’s a part of me that I can’t let go”, the part where he strangles her while under influence of the plaga, and the more flirty-ish moments of her leaving a letter for him with a lipstick mark.

I’ve read comments saying they like this new take on their relationship, how it’s more grounded and realistic. Maybe I’m still having my nostalgia OG RE2 & RE4 glasses on.

They tried to make this ship more… bittersweet in the remake? But the performance from Ada’s VA isn’t really cutting it. That’s why I am a little eh on the ship for RE4R.

I consider myself to be a pretty hardcore Leon x Ada shipper and if I feel a bit unenthusiastic about the pairing in this game, something went wrong somewhere. Hopefully the Separate Ways DLC can redeem this…
