“You’re so gorgeous, did you know that?” Regulus asks, gazing at James from where he has his chin pillowed on his chest. 

Moonlight filters through the curtains, dust dancing where it is caught in her beam. The night is silent, save for the murmurs in the space between them.

James’ hands still in Regulus’ hair. “Yeah, sure.”

“No, I mean it.”

James hums. A non-committal thing, because guys like him aren’t gorgeous. They’re handsome. Solid. Sturdy. 

“You don’t believe me?” Regulus asks, shifting so he’s no longer lying on James’ chest but instead straddling him. James’ hands move to rest on Regulus’ hips. They gravitate there almost on their own. His True North. “I’ll write it down, if you want. Your morning manifestations.” 

James laughs a little because he still thinks it’s at least a little bit of a joke. His laughter quickly turns breathless when Regulus’ hands come up to his face.

Delicate fingers trace the line of his jaw. The curve of his lips. The shell of his ear and the bridge of his nose. James feels his breath hitch in his throat. The touch feels reverent. Like he is something to be worshiped. 

“Gorgeous,” Regulus whispers, and there’s a soft touch of fingers over James’ eyebrows. His eyes flutter shut and a puff of breath caresses the side of his face, lips following the path Regulus’ fingers have traced. He mouths gently at the line of his jaw, at the corner of his lips, at the shell of his ear, and at the bridge of his nose. A gentle kiss on each eyelid. 

“Gorgeous,” he murmurs. Again and again and again. Until he has mapped out the entirety of James’ face. It almost feels like he’s being re-invented. His freckles and moles charted like stars on a cloudless night. 

Regulus shifts again, working his way down James’ throat, along his collarbones, a kiss pressed into the hollow between them. His chest and stomach, his hip bones. No part of him left uncharted. 

Down and down Regulus goes, muttering that single word over and over again, until he finds where James craves him most, and swallows him down in one go.

James comes with his back arched off the bed and the word gorgeous echoing in his head.

In the morning, Regulus long gone, James finds a sticky note on the mirror. Good morning, gorgeous, it reads, with a little heart-eyed stick-figure doodled in the corner.

cant scribble it out bc its too Involved but here's a Laughingstock thought that just feels Right:

im imagining them sitting down and going through a list of pet names to use for each other. like Howdy has a clipboard, Barnaby's sitting across the counter, they're going through the list and striking out the ones that don't work. playfully teasing each other about certain suggestions, losing it over a Bit where they try to call each other the names in the most sickeningly sweet lovey-dovey voices and see who cracks first, mutually making fun of some options, getting flustered when they find one they like. yeah <3
