YES ABSOLUTELY… I always wanna talk abt my girl… (readmore because i have Many Thoughts to share)

okok so. Sherry is, for those not in the know, a transfem James Sunderland. She's been trapped in Silent Hill for a few years now (?? Probably? It's. Hard to tell when the place you live only has "foggy" and "dark" as signs of time passing) and has started to make her peace with it.

there's a lot of differences, but a lot of the base details of the post-Sherry story were inspired by @partyinthemysterymachine's Get Out of My Town (which is a GREAT fic that you should absolutely check out)

The core concept of Lakes AU (my little nickname for the Sherry 'verse) is that the In Water ending didn't actually kill her--it Took Something from her, but it didn't kill her. Thanks to that, she's got a deeper connection to Silent Hill--she can kind of "feel" what it "feels", and if she goes along with what it "wants" then living in town is less of a constant nightmare.

She's still working through her (many, many) issues, but between getting Existential Horror therapy via literally beating your demons up with a wooden plank and being completely cut off from the outside world and getting a chance to realize that a bunch of the societal bullshit you've internalized over the years really doesn't matter, a lot of her ability to... care? has eroded away. She wakes up, listens to the town, looks around for interesting things, dies horribly every couple of weeks, forgets that she died horribly, crawls right back out of Toluca Lake and does it all again.

Oh speaking of, she's got some big time memory issues--they started right about when she first came back. What she can and can't remember isn't always consistent--she's almost always missing a lot of little things about the outside world, but sometimes it'll get really bad and she won't even remember who or where she is for a few days. Mostly it gets worse right after a death. It used to freak her out big time, but at this point she's mostly just accepted it as something that happens. It's probably fine.

She likes her life now, horrors and all. She feels like she fits there, in a way that she never really did anywhere Before. Sometimes she'll look at herself in the mirror and be surprised because the person looking back at her feels like... herself. Sometimes she gets to hang out with Maria (who is NOT content with her life in the town and would very much love to escape it) or help some poor schmuck that the town decided to call over, and that's enough for her to be content.

Even if she could leave, she wouldn't want to. Sure is a good thing no one's trying to find her, right? Haha. Ha. Ha. That would be really inconvenient for her. (Unrelated Frank Sunderland is suuuch a fun character I wonder whats up with him.)

Think about characters that the show tends to portray as innocent and chill but still 100% know Conan is Not who he pretends to be. Jodie should by now at least strongly suspect Conan is Shinichi. We have seen she's not a bad detective (in figuring out Akai faked his death), she knows Vermouth has stayed young for 20+ years and she heard her talking to Haibara at the docks, so she could probably do some research and put two and two together. Like by now she should know. Maybe she's just not addressing it to protect him?

And then there's Takagi. He doesn't have half the information Jodie does, but come on. After the "who are you" scene in the elevator???? Being answered he'll tell him in the afterlife and ending up not getting a reply???? And then moving on like nothing happened???? Like you gotta admit. Something weird must've happened inside his brain. How do you even justify that. "Maybe he's the spirit protector of cops incarnate I'd better do as he says and act natural lest he casts a Curse upon me" or some shit similar. Surely not Shinichi Kudo shrunk by a criminal organisation that would be too weird.

As Buck looked at him with fear in his eyes, afraid to be rejected, Eddie couldn't stop himself from resting his thumb in the hollow spot in Buck’s shoulder and his free hand resting on his waist. He couldn't understand why they tasted like ash in his mouth.

Until he watched Tommy holding Buck close, laughing as he guided Buck through the dance. He wanted it to be him, who was holding Buck close and kissing him softly. He was in love with Buck, and Buck was with Tommy. Tommy had been brave enough to do what he didn't even realize he wanted at that moment.

I've been doing a lot of thinking, lately, and I ended up reflecting on my identity a bit, yesterday--mainly through Sherry, since she's my conduit for self exploration and reflection, but specifically in a situation where she's trying to explain herself to Heathcliff.

Specifically, I was thinking about how I experience romantic attraction, and how Sherry--even just based on her source material--is very much some flavor of aromantic and asexual. I don't really use any labels, and neither does she, but that's because I have had negative experiences with them.

Anyway, something about Sherry trying to explain to Heathcliff that she doesn't really feel romantic love is very cathartic to me. I project onto her a lot, so she's maybe had an inkling of romantic attraction once or thrice (one of her little crushes was Hubert, to keep it in line with my canon lore), but it's never gone anywhere, and usually fades pretty quickly.

I feel Heathcliff wouldn't really understand what she means--he'd have a hard time wrapping his head around someone not feeling (romantic) love, especially since he's known that feeling pretty much all his life--but he'd also be the first to defend her from anyone who thinks her lack of interest in romance is "weird." Even if he doesn't completely understand her feelings, he cares about Sherry, and he knows how it feels to be treated differently because of who he is, so why wouldn't he stick up for her?

Like I said above, Sherry doesn't use labels--she simply knows romance isn't something she needs to be satisfied with herself. Yes, she may eventually find someone she feels genuine, long-lasting romantic attraction towards (Heathcliff--much, much later on), but she's come to terms with the fact that, if she doesn't, she'll be okay on her own.

The anti-choice “what if your mom had aborted YOU” argument is very funny to me because I was conceived partly because, when my dad was in college, a doctor told him that he couldn’t father children due to a bad case of mono. So, when my parents got married shortly after graduating, they were NOT careful about birth control. But I don’t see anyone advocating for doctors inaccurately telling nineteen-year-olds that their sperm all got boiled.

I think I’ve said this before but I REALLY DO LOVE ALMOST ALL RE CHARACTERS/SHIPS THERE TRULY ARENT MANY SHIPS/CHARACTERS I GENUINELY DISLIKE you don’t have to ask me “oh do you ship __” cuz unless it’s straight up something like Sherry X Leon I’m probably shipping it!!!!! Or at least I’ll give you a thumbs up for it!!!!!!!!!!!!
