(I wrote the thing and I'm very nervous to show it. And btw, Klin's Cklan isnt based on anything, I pulled it outta my butt for some random name. Also, there's a few 2012 references in there and 'Leo secret girlboy' stuff too cuz she's told nobody yet at this point. Enjoy 750 words of... fluff? I didnt check it and Im tired so it may make no sense and if so then I'm sorry)

"What'cha watching?"

Donnie flinches, his phone fumbling in his hands for a moment.

He was watching a sci-fi series- 'Klin's Cklan' (the odd spelling based off of the language that was made just for the show). Technically a tragic comedy. It followed the story of aliens who were approached by humans, new to space travel and the universe. A flip on the usual focus of being on humans and their perspective. And it was incredibly nerdy.

He knows that everyone's been making efforts to become better lately, but it hasn't been long enough for him, and he rushes to blacken the screen.

Donnie turns around, thankful for hiding the show, as it was Leo.

Leo, who has been making many efforts to improve himself.

Leo, who had been the main culprit of relentless teasing and a multitude of panic attacks.

Leo, his brother. 

It's too soon. He knows Leo would tease him about it, at least right now. And no hoping for a nicer future will change years of a schedule where he picks apart and tears at his most prized likes.

Though he's clearly been thinking for too long, as Leo waves his hand in front of Donnie's face. "Hello? Earth to Donnie?"

"It- It's nothing. Just some d-dumb show."

"...What's it about?" He asks, seemingly hesitantly.

"No- nothing interesting. You wouldn't like- like it."

Leo drapes his arms over the back of the couch from where behind Donnie he stood.

"At least tell me the name, if nothing else!"

Donnie represses the want to roll his eyes at that. 

"Fi- fine. It's called Klin's Cklan. You- You've probably never heard befo-"

And then Donnie notices his face. He'd been mostly looking away from Leo- preferring to glance at the sofa, the walls, the door especially. But Leo's eyes are sparkling so much that even his avoidant gaze couldn't help but notice.

"YOU WATCH KLCK?"

Donnie thinks that this whole moment might just be an illusion. Like that one time he got kidnapped and had been sedated by a fantasy-building helmet.

But Leo could be lying. Setting up for some kind of tease trap. Tricking him into thinking this was a sage thing to like before pulling the rug under him and saying that he was silly for ever believing that anyone he knows would like a show so nerdy.

It doesn't matter that it hasn't happened in two months. 

Donnie's eyes squint suspiciously.

"What- what declaration of peace did the humans accidentally break went the aliens went to- to the portal potty?" Yea, they named public bathrooms 'portal potties' and Donnie doesn't know who in the writing room came up with it.

"Cintag's treaty of the harmless, which made everyone on the planet try to kill the humans and sacrifice them like they did with the prior predominant species of that planet two thousand years ago."

Donnie blinks at Leo. He wasn't expecting a detailed answer- he wasn't expecting an answer at all.

Maybe this isn't a trick.

"Who's your fav- favourite character?"

"Mona. Like- look at her! She's a badass in a skirt- kicking butt and looking pretty and free while doing it! Even if is more of a side character."

"Fair enough. I like Dr Rockwell."

"The really sarcastic genius who's always flying?"

"Y-yea…"

"We both got attached to side characters, that's sad. I wish they'd show up more."

"Maybe soon. I heard that- that there was going to be a Mona-centric episode soon!"

"Hell yeah!"

And it's a silly conversation. 

Two sucky people, trying to get better, once with a power imbalance so prominent that it let the tides of both of their lives, talking about some silly sci-fi series.

No matter how much he wants to, he doesn't think he'll forgive Leo for some of what he's done in the past (with a particular conversation they had when they were fourteen or so coming to mind).

But he likes moments like this. It proves something for the future. 

And so he knows it's dumb to indulge in, and it will quickly fall apart in maybe a week, but this is all he has to hold on to. These little moments. A break.

So he babbles on with Leo about the stupid sci-fi show. Donnie thinks that this is the first time Leo has ever listened to one of his long rambles without even a shred of boredom shining through, so Donnie doesn't stop talking and for once, Leo doesn't stop listening.

It's nice.

Are you named after someone? Not on purpose. I picked my names because they resonated with me, and then I realised they were both thinly veiled Percy Shelley references.

"Jules" as a name has a life of its own, though. Which amazing, showstopping, may it be an omen of my own.

When was the last time you cried? Yesterday, out of sheer anger at people's audacity.

Do you have kids? If my cats count, then sure.

What sports do you play/have played? Used to play volleyball and do equestrians. Did bouldering for a while because, are they y'know, and am of the intention of picking it up again.

Do you use sarcasm? Yes but 60% of the time I end up explaining it's sarcasm before anyone asks me, so I don't know if it counts.

What the first thing you notice about people? What jumps up to me from individual to individual changes. I am not good at registering first impressions v consciously. So I couldn't say if I tried

What's your eye colour? Brown-black. Darkest brown eyes you'll ever find. Came with my "I'm right, tho" permit.

Scary movies or happy endings? SENSE-MAKING ENDINGS. My favourite endings are the hopeful ones, regardless of genre, but if movies flub the ending I will be so mad, I will be so angry.

Example: As Above So Below butchered its themes with that fucking ending it had, and I do not care how hopeful it is, I hate it. It makes no sense from a storytelling perspective, and I will be forever bitter because its a horror movie about alchemy that borrows heavily from hauntings and Dante's inferno, they took all of my favourite themes and KILLED THEM WITH THAT ENDING

Quick Stop Grocery

Ship: Jay x Bear x Silent Bob

Summary: Set before the events of Clerks, Dante (and technically also Randal) gets acquainted with Bear, the most recent addition to whatever Jay and Silent Bob have going on.

Content Warnings: Canon-typical mentions of drugs (mainly weed) and sexuality, 90s cis understanding of gender.

It was appearing to be an average eleven o’clock on a Sunday in Leonardo, New Jersey, at the Quick Stop grocery and its joint video store. Dante Hicks worked the register at the Quick Stop, while his good friend Randal Graves worked in the video store. Most of the time, Dante had no trouble with customers. They came in, gathered their shit, perhaps bought a pack of cigarettes, and got out.

He’d get the occasional friendly visit from his girlfriend Veronica to make the slow hours go by faster as well. And of course, as always, there were the relatively- in the grand scheme of things -harmless drug dealers that hung around the front of the store. He’d considered shooing them off when they first started loitering, but for once he agreed with Randal: not his store (not like he owned the property, anyway), not his sidewalk to shoo drug dealers off of. Besides, they didn’t seem to be affecting the flow of traffic to the Quick Stop, so why the Hell should he care?

Today was slightly abnormal however, because while there were normally two of these relatively harmless drug dealers, today there were three. Well, maybe the third one wasn’t dealing drugs, but they were certainly with the drug dealers. Despite the generally nice spring weather, the drug dealers’ friend wore several layers: a beanie, a scarf, a sweater, a thick coat, baggy pants, beat up knock-off converse shoes, and fingerless gloves. They glossed the aisles for a short while and soon brought a bottle of Faygo cola, a bag of sour gummy worms, and a Milky Way bar up to the counter.

“That’ll be $7.94,” Dante spoke boredly as he scanned each item. The drug dealers then entered the store. Jay, the thin blond one, eagerly swept around the corner and threw his arm over the stranger’s shoulders.

“Dante, meet my favourite girlboy dudelady, Bear. Bear, this is Dante, I think he’s pretty chill,” Jay grinned.

“Er, nice to meet you, Bear,” Dante finally looked up as Bear handed him the money. Bear nodded in recognition. “About as talkative as the other one, I take it?”

“Hey man, don’t disrespect Silent Bob like that, he has a name, y’know!”

“Sorry.”

“I talk,” Bear spoke up from within his cocoon. “I guess you could say I’m a good balance, but Jay does enough talking for both of us.” He shared a fond look with Silent Bob, the large brunet one, who had taken up the space beside him.

“Damn straight.”

“I’m not sure that’s a compliment…” Dante breathed, “anything else I can help you with?”

Bear shook his head. “No. Nice finally getting acquainted with you, though.” He held up his fist and Dante awkwardly accepted the invitation to a fist bump.

“Silent Bob wants an Icee, actually,” Jay piped up as SB drifted off to the machine.

“I’m going over to the video store, then,” Bear turned and briefly kissed Jay before floating out of the store.

“Boygirl dudelady??” Dante had to ask.

“Well, yeah, I don’t really understand it but I’m trying my best. Bear was born a chick but now he says he’s a man, but he’s still got tits and a pussy, so,” Jay shrugged. “I’ve only heard of people like him in porn.”

“And you’re dating him?”

“Kind of? He likes to kiss his friends, and shit, pussy is pussy, my dude. Me and Silent Bob share him between ourselves because we’re cool like that.”

Silent Bob came to pay for his Icee, a swirl of cherry and blue raspberry.

“I usually just see the two of you, how’d it come to be a trio??”

“We met at a super tight club. Bear bought weed off us and took us back to his apartment, we didn’t do anything sexual with him but we still found we had a really cool connection. Bear didn’t have any real friends so I said shit, we’re you’re friends now, motherfucker! The rest is history.”

“Good for you.”

“Thank you, man. I better go make sure your friend’s not being a fuckin’ pair of numbnuts to him, though, Bear’s a total movie whore and when you get him going…” Jay whistled and made a wide gesture with his hand. “Bye, Dante!”

And with that, the two drug dealers left. When they entered the video store, they found Bear having a heated discussion over recent horror movies with Randal, though it seemed fairly contained compared to the kinds of arguments Jay and Silent Bob had seen him go off on.

full disclosure tamaki was my first real conscious fictional crush at the ripe age of 11 and TO THIS DAY i have to pause the show during the piano scenes to recover my dignity so he will always be my number one. my everything. my absolute love interest of all time. i could write essays on him for real. i HAVE written essays on him. that being said i can absolutely talk about the other hosts bc im literally obsessed w this show

i didn't get the appeal of mori at first tbh which might be a result of watching the anime 2 million times but never reading the manga LMAO bc he really is just a filler character in the show. but hes fun and i like him well enough. im sort of hoping he gets a little more room to be a real character in the manga tho bc ive like. just gotten out of the chapters that were adapted directly into the show so we're in uncharted territory now. im waiting for his chapter im SURE its coming

i have some questions from the book ask for you: 1, 11, 15, 20 and 25 please! also, i absolutely get you on being strangely invested in books with girls pretending to be boys, definitely should have clued me in a little earlier lol. i can only remember one book i read with it atm tho, which is a pre-to-young-teens book called Road to London by Barbara Mitchelhill, which also happens to be a historical fiction. i would recommend you read it (if you hadn't already) but i'm p sure the reading age would be a bit young for you, and you'd probably find it boring

1. What books are you currently reading?

I'm reading 19 books right now but the ones I am reading most actively is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Devotions by Mary Oliver (which I actually ordered a physical copy for because I want to underline so much of it and cannot on my pirated pdf copy)

11. Have you ever bought a book because of who the author was?

I don't do it anymore as an adult because I buy books so sparingly unless they're thrifted or I find them in a hostel library (which is where I've attained the last handful of books I've gotten) but as a kid regardless of how terrible it ended up being Erin Hunter had a death grip on my wallet and sensibilities.

15. Favourite non-fiction genre?

I love autobiographies so much.

20. Do you read e-books?

When I was living in the woods for three months I didn't really want to bring any physical copies with me so I got into pirating pdfs and have not looked back since. I would say a good 85% of what I read now is a digital copy. It takes me a lot longer to read digitally but I love how convenient it is.

25. In what condition do you keep your books?

My books have has much life experience as I do and reflect that. I don't believe in treating books delicately and enjoy the way things wear and tear based on use and age and treat my books accordingly.

I love reading children's fiction so I will for sure add it to my to read list! I honestly have not ventured into the girlboy genre of children's fiction in a few years and it would be fun to feed my inner child like that.
