I LOVE Dom/sub dynamics between John and Gale (I'm privy to Dom Gale, but honestly if a dynamic is written well I'm eating it the fuck up)

absolutely going bonkers for praise (all that that entails), give me Gale calling John a good boy, give me John telling Gale he's going so well during sex, give it to me all of the time I fucking love it

love some feminization when it's done really well, have John call Gale his girl, a good girl, MAKE GALE WEAR SKIRTS OML, but also when they feminize John? yep yep but that big beefy man in a skirt

I love when they're so sweet with each other, domesticity and living together will make me weep every time :(( absolutely love when they call each other pet names and endearments (JOHN CALLING GALE DOLL? KILL ME)

for fics my favorite genres are post war, canon, and any au stuff. I love the "forbiddeness" of it all, love how they'll try to be with each other no matter how much society tries to force them apart

I personally love reading fics from John's perspective (maybe bcs me and him are both in love with Gale Cleven), but I just love to see big and loud John Egan fall for quiet and sassy Gale Cleven, one of my favorite things to read

I write a shit ton of aus, I think I have more aus than actual canon content on this blog, but my fave aus I've ever written are my wedding au, firefighter/detective au, and all of my modern au stuff hehe and honestly for fanart I'd love to see more au stuff! I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface on clegan fanartists bcs I don't see that many, if you draw fanart lmk!!

Omgg??? An ask about my very first au?? *shakes you by the shoulders* ahhh 💞💞🫂🫂

Dr. Who!!! Oh I loved that series when I was younger. I haven’t watched it in ages. The 11th doctor was my fave and I couldn’t get into any of the other doctors after him.

Though I did check out the 10th doctor seasons but the 11th was always my fave above all.

As for referencing from doctor who 🤔, it’s been so long I wouldn’t even know what to reference from.

I would have to watch it again and I’m currently not into it enough to do that.

But I’ve always loved time travel fics, fix it fics, what if everyone lived, etc.

So there’s probably commonalities found as you would generally see in those kind of genres 🧐

Sherlock Holmes, schoolboy. Yeah, that basically sums it up.

After two months in rehab, Sherlock comes back to school to find he has a roommate. Sherlock has never had a roommate, nor has he wished for one. This will either go badly or... Well. Badly. At least for someone.

There's a new boy in class and everybody likes him. Not that Sherlock would care, as long as 'John' leaves him alone...

Whe sixteen year old John Watson escapes from his poor and abusive home and manages to get into a private school, he can't believe his luck. However, the other students in this school aren't your average kind. When he runs into a bad-boy Sherlock who's known to be unpredictable as he is passionate about everything he does, sparks fly. However, Sherlock's never actually shown interest in anyone before, and his goof-off attitude hides a genuine brilliance about him. There's no denying that both of them spending a semester together will get a result. The question is, will it be good or bad for the two of them?

Yes! So many. It's honestly so hard to narrow it down because there's so many talented writers in the fandom and they all write incredible stuff. I'm not sure what you're looking for specifically but there's a lot of variety as well.

I'll name some that are different themes/genres from different writers but honestly any writer I mention you should check out all their work because it's all great!

Canon:

There's a lot of great one shots based off of things going on in Season 6 currently (wrackwonder has a lot based on specific episodes) but:

In the Deep by AzureInk is more in depth and will wreck you emotionally in the best way so it's a must. So good.

Serendipity by @englishstrawbie - fills in the blanks from the start of Marina's relationship until the end of Season 4 and it's one of my faves. Definite must!

AU:

Faces in the Hall by @ladstars - Maya & Carina go to the same high school and build a connection that turns into more as time goes on. It's lovely and has a sequel that takes them all the way to adults with twist and turns in between. You Can't Be Missed If You Never Go Away is the second part!

What Our Hearts Must Know by @amaltheazwrites - Soulmate AU that brings all the feels ❤️ so good.

Baby/Family:

From The Ashes/Head Above Water by wrackwonder - Maya and Carina adopt a baby that Maya saves during a call and a lot of crazy and sexy things happen along the way. HAW is the sequel to the first part!

Hygge by @jmflowers - a collection of one shots all related in the same universe where Maya and Carina have a boy and girl. Lots of lovely family feelings ❤️

Angst:

Indescribable and Unspeakable by @bellalinguista - Maya gets seriously injured while Maya & Carina are on shaky terms written in both Maya & Carina's POV and all the emotions and feelings that go along with both of them processing that. Will make you feel all the things and one of my faves.

Is This God's Experiment by @amaltheazwrites - Carina gets into an accident on her way to the airport (4x14) and doesn't remember any of her relationship with Maya. This one hurts so good

I'm currently working on some prompts to get the muse going, but I've been brainstorming a movie chenford au (as for which movie, I'd like that to be a surprise), and I've started to work on it recently. I think the idea is perfect for Chenford and I hope I can manage to write it!

I have to say I'm really enjoying delving into Lucy's background for the one I mentioned above, it's fun to mix the canon elements with the elements from the movie and make it cohesive.

Hmm, that's tough because I love all of them so much. They're all my babies. I love the post s4 accidental dating one, or the Montana one that's sort of abandoned bc the ideas are too big for writing capabilities atm, or sugar daddy fic that's waiting for smut insp. I've recently started a 4+1 fic for a fic exchange and I really love the idea so much, it's been so fun to brainstorm!

I don't really think I have one that I'm specifically good at haha, more like average at all of them. I'd say my fave to write are domestic fluff/fix-it fics or emotional hurt/comfort. I also really love addendum scenes that can be slotted in canon easily. The bts stuff that we don't get to see, but can easily imagine.

🌤 name the hardest thing you've had to do for writing

When I was writing for Linstead fandom I wrote a fic where I sort of used writing as catharsis for something traumatic that's happened to me. Delving into those emotions, allowing other characters to say what I was thinking, it was liberating but at the same time really hard.

But I guess it made me understand that if I can afford my favorite characters the grace and forgiveness regarding the situation, I should do the same courtesy for myself, and it sort of helped me move on in a way.

Over a month ago, I hit the outrageous milestone of 1,000 followers. I'm so shocked and humbled by this that it has taken me until hitting 1,100 followers to scrape together the celebration I want. So! I’ve made a fic rec list of what’s fast becoming my fave type of SHL!WenZhou fic, which I don’t really know what to call but they’re like. Fics that deep dive the WenZhou traumatized brain juices with bonus orgasms? Or something?

Idk but these fics all fit together in my mind as the same genre for whatever reason and I love them.

It had been so easy to imagine, because Wen Kexing has spent a lot of time steeped in his own fantasies: spending his days growing things with his own hands, assembling them into things that would nurture bodies instead of break them. Maybe A-Xiang and her stupid xiao-Cao would join them. Maybe he would be happy forever, here with A-Xu, their hair growing white together. It seemed so simple: all both of them had to do was stay.

Could one return to paradise, after doing such things? Was it really possible to stay?

Zhou Zishu seemed to think so. His hands were as bloody as Wen Kexing’s and yet here he was, in his soft rumpled clothes, his soft rumpled hair, lazing around before meals as if it was only his right that they be served to him. This land, where the flowers bloomed in all four seasons, had happily welcomed the cruel leader of Tian Chuang back into itself. This idiot didn’t even know where the key to all his money was, and yet he was still ready to hand it all over to Wen Kexing to do as he liked.

Wen Kexing watches Zhou Zishu fuss around, and thinks of saying, where I come from, they don’t really call me Philanthropist Wen, you know.

Local killer struggles with the prospect that he could happily retire (and also PTSD but you know)

Historical or futuristic?

Historical - always. While I've read/watched sci-fi, it's not one of my favourite genres as I much prefer fantasy (which tends to be more 'historical' in setting). Dunno why... Just always been more intrigued by the past than the possible future. Maybe because there is more 'romance' to it, somehow...

Opening or Closing Chapter?

Ohh... Hard! Opening chapters are great if they can grab your attention and suck you into the story from the first page... but closing chapters can be awesome too if they tie up everything nicely, or leave you on a cliffhanger (in an earlier book - hate cliffhangers at the end of the series/standalone book - I NEED CLOSURE PEOPLE!)

Light and Fluffy or Dark and Gritty?

Dark and gritty - while I don't mind light and fluffy, I don't think I could deal with it for an entire book. Like @angelasscribbles and @jerzwriter said, it is much more satisfying to struggle through the hardship with the character, see what they're made of, and come out of the other side stronger and more mature/aware.

Animal Companion or Found Family?

Gah! This is hard! I love animal companions - they are basically like people! But found family also works, so... Both?

Horror or Romance?

100% romance 😅 Can't stand horror - never could. I have nicer things to do than intentionally scare myself half to death and deal with heart palpitations for 2 hours lol

Hard Magic or Soft Magic?

Not quite sure what this question is asking... But if it's asking whether I prefer 'overt' magic to 'implied' magic, then definately overt magic (magic wands, spells, sparkling light shooting from fingertips, etc.) Because I love the idea of there being more to this world than we can see/touch with our 5 senses!

One project at a time or Juggling 2 or more?

A year ago, I woud've totally said one project at a time. But now I'm in the brave new world of having half a dozen projects on the go at the same time 🫣 So while it's nice to have options to bounce between depending on what mood I am in, I am desperately trying to get this list down to like 2-3 projects max because having to many unfinished things on my plate stresses me out 😅

One award winner or One bestseller?

Bestseller, definately. Partly because (a) I don't think I can write the type of book that would be considered to be an 'award winner', and (b) just because you've written an award winning book does not mean that people actually 'like' you book (as award winners tend to be avant guard in some sense, and deal with 'heavy' topics... at least that's been my experience/impression). I 100% believe that books should be for enjoyment, and I think that's better reflected with a bestseller, as opposed to an award winner.

Fantasy or Sci-fi?

As I said above, definitely fantasy over sci-fi.

First Draft or Final Draft?

Ohh... Hard 😅 While starting a first draft is always exciting, I do love the final, polished aspect of the final draft ever so slightly more.

Love triangle in everything or No romantic arcs?

Love triangle, definately! I much prefer some sexual tension in my fics rather than just platonic interactions. It ups the ante to delicious and juicy heights!

Constant sandstorm or rainstorm?

Rainstorm, obviously. I mean, I don't know about you, but sand sucks. It gets everywhere and it's itchy and annoying and gah! While I don't particularly like being wet, I'd take that everyday over sand - sorry residents of Arrakis!*

*Just because sci-fi isn't a fave genre of mine, does not mean I'm not aware of it lol

hi!! do you happen to have any fics in the works/anything you can tease 👀

hiiiii :') so i am working on two fics right now, one is a shivlina zombie apocalypse au (very self indulgent, this will be my third apocalypse au on ao3 if it does get posted 😭) but i'm still in the early stages of figuring out how i want it to/the format, so i'm not sure if/when it will be posted, but i've just been working on it for fun so you're welcome to ask about it if you (or anyone) do happen to like zombie stories!!!! it's one of my fave genres and i've been revisiting fear the walking dead to get some inspo for it 😈

the other is a fic i wasn't really sure if i was going to post about or not; as a caveat, i haven't really been having a lot of fun with fanfic lately and i've been considering taking a break for a little bit until i start to feel good about it again, but i DO have a story i've been having a lot of fun writing and was kind of planning on seeing through regardless if i took a break from posting or not -- i have already been posting it on another account on ao3 and u can find it here -- i was keeping it anonymous bc i just wanted a low pressure place to post a story (but it didn't really solve any issues i've been having w fic. alas 😭) BUT i really do appreciate that you care enough about my writing to want more/check in about it & i'd feel really bad saying i'm taking a break and then continuing to post this one, so even if i do take a main 'duskfalls' break i think i will still be updating this story and hopefully it can fill the void<3333

i do have some other fics that are in the works that are probably going to take a pause and wouldn't mind sharing excerpts from them if u really really are desperate for jeniffercheck content, but yeah I think aside from the two fics i mentioned above that i'm just trying to write for fun, a break is probably happening rn :(

Thanks @10holmes for the fun ask! 😊 I got a bit carried away so this is really long, sorry! Answers to questions I onwards are under the cut.

G: Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

Mostly I write from start to finish, though sometimes I do skip around if I hit a bit of a block for the next scene or get inspiration for a particular bit. Also sometimes I’m in the mood to write something ‘proper’ and sometimes all I wanna do is write the smutty scenes :D

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?

Hmm, probably when reading fic… I think my guilty pleasures are omegaverse and Regency era AUs! Omegaverse seems to be a bit like marmite, you either love it or hate it – and I love it :D And you can’t go wrong with some steamy Regency era fic, the characters trying to restrain themselves but ultimately breaking all those social taboos with an illicit love affair :P

R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?

Hmm, this is tricky. Not really? As in, I like reading a wide variety of authors (fanfic or published), covering a variety of fandoms, genres, tropes etc, so I can’t think of anyone specifically who has influenced me to a greater degree than anyone else. However, I do really enjoy reading people’s meta and headcanons on tumblr and I think that helps me a lot to build and shape my impressions of characters and therefore influences my writing in that way.

S: Any fandom tropes you can't resist?

Slow burn (ideally with eventual smut), angst with a happy ending, soulmates, omegaverse, enemies to lovers, pining… (LOVE the pining!)

It depends on the fandom/pairing, but generally I like happy endings and I like the pairing to be mutually head over heels in love with each other. The pain of unrequited love or a sad ending can be really good too, if I’m in the mood for that, but I am generally a huge sucker for a happy ending.

T: Any fandom tropes you can't stand?

I really can’t stand coffee shop AUs…! I don’t understand why they’re so popular. I’ve worked in coffee shops/hospitality and I hated it, so that experience has probably tainted the concept for me.

I like to read fic so that my fave characters can love and bone each other, so I’m not into fics where they fall out of love, cheat, divorce etc.

I don’t really like love at first sight either. I enjoy soulmates/fated pairings, but like it to be a bit more developed and meaningful than just ‘I saw you, don’t actually know you, but am instantly in love’.

I also am not particularly interested in reading kidfic. Omegaverse, mpreg etc is all fine (and very good, in fact!), but, while there are sometimes exceptions, I usually don’t want to read about the kid coming along. It could be the fact that I don’t want children myself influencing that preference!

There’s nothing wrong with all of these tropes, of course, I just personally don’t usually like to read them.

U: Share three of your favourite fic writers and why you like them so much.

Oh, another extremely difficult question! The thing is, there are soo many amazing fic writers! I am not sure that I’ve got any favourite writers per se, as I’ll happily devour a good fic from anyone, so can I share 3 of my favourite fics instead? (Hopefully that’s not cheating!)

A Devotion by TroubleIWant – this is my most favourite Sterek fic ever, I read it years ago and it has lived in my head rent free ever since. A fab medieval AU.

Stars Above, Stones Below by Destina – a wonderful Merthur fic that I have read several times over. Chef's kiss.

Breathe You In by LapisLazuli – a Johnlock fic that is not only Omegaverse but is also a The Sentinel tv show AU, with Sherlock as an Alpha Sentinel whose 5 senses are super enhanced and John as an Omega Guide who helps him control his senses and avoid zoning out from overstimulation. OMG I wish there were more Omegaverse/Sentinel blended fics out there, for any fandom, as it is such an amazing combination that fits together so well and has such interesting potential!

These 3 are fics that have stuck in my head and I have remembered and loved them for a long time, many years in fact. I highly recommend them! But also, at the moment my current obsession is utterly for XueXiao and I am working my way (far more slowly than I’d like) through the catalogue of fics for them on AO3 and I’d just recommend to anyone to read any and all of those fics, as the ones I’ve read so far are all AMAZING and it’s too hard to single any out! Read them all! And enjoy, but also prepare your heart before you go in for all the delicious pain that awaits you!
