this poll ends in about 8 and a half hours!
Teleportation?
Having confirmed that neither of the two are dreaming, revealing what seems to be a strange scar in the process, the wizard explained that Shizuku must have been teleported without warning. Magic talk taken entirely seriously is not out of the ordinary for the Sachiko that Shizuku knew as a child, but considering the strange circumstances, it feels far more plausible now than it ever did before.

The story so far.
Shizuku has to think a moment on why she's here as she ascends the stairs. Sachiko is waiting, though it's hard to tell how impatiently just by the steps in front of her.
"I don't know why I'm here, really. Perhaps I'm in a dream?" she muses.
Sachiko rolls up a sleeve as she walks, revealing some sort of dark tattoo over her right hand and forearm. She used to wear bandages there, but they never used to actually cover anything of note. The woman pinches hard, wincing visibly, and then rolls her sleeve back down.
"You're not in a dream." "Wouldn't it make more sense to pinch me? I can't be sure I'm not dreaming if I just watch someone else get pinched."
The wizard halts and turns around, very nearly bumping into her companion. She suddenly takes Shizuku's arm in one hand and pinches with the other.
"Ow!" "Believe me now?"
With no choice but to agree, Shizuku nods her head. She memorises the sensation of toughened skin from Sachiko's right hand compared to the softness of her left before the wizard can remove either. Tattoos didn't often do that, meaning it must be some sort of strange scar. Remembering that for later sounds wise.
"If you're truly not sure why you're here, you must have been teleported by someone or something without warning. Perhaps a summoning, though I saw no materials for it nearby. This could mean several things. One option is that you were summoned with either enough control to not need a circle or so little control that you arrived outside of it. Another option is that you were teleported away from where you were, ending up in a random location. The last option I can think of is that it happened entirely accidentally."
That was a lot to take in. Not unusual for Sachiko necessarily, as she'd been like this as a little kid, but this time it felt far more plausible than anything she'd said when they were younger.
Shizuku feels as though she must make a decision.

since I had to randomly vote on this one myself in order to see the results before the poll ends, it's actually a tie right now!
ties can be... interesting. often suboptimal. if you don't want this to tie, get another vote!
Why is she here?
After reluctantly revealing herself to be Sachiko Tanaka, someone Shizuku used to know, the wizard has taken the willing Shizuku to her tower. They are currently climbing the stairs, and, impatiently, Sachiko has asked why Shizuku is here.

Curiosity overtaking her, she makes it. That voice is simply too familiar to ignore.
"First, what is your name? Surely you can afford me this," Shizuku requests, tilting her head inquisitively. "I cannot. Your little 'stunt' has not shown you favourably." "Pretty please? I think I recognise your voice!"
The wizard sighs deeply before reluctantly removing their hood. One eye is covered, and age has become more evident since the last sighting, but Shizuku would know this person anywhere. Her breath is stolen a moment as she processes.
"You know my name, Shizu-" the wizard began, but Shizuku interrupted her impulsively. "Sachiko! I haven't seen you since Seir-" Shizuku began before being interrupted herself. "Shh! You know that you know me, you will come with me now. You would do well not to make me more cross"
With a small half-laugh, Shizuku nods her head. The wizard leads her through the streets, taking only a slight lead to ensure that her companion doesn't wander off. Shizuku likely wouldn't of her own accord, but in a strange place such as this, she couldn't be sure nothing unfortunate would happen.
The wizard's tower is not a short walk away, but not a hike either. It's easy enough to see no matter what direction the streets take them, being as tall as it is compared to every other structure in the area. The final approach is awe-inspiring, but Sachiko pays it no mind.
"We're here," she says, beginning what is evidently going be a long climb after the opening of a door. Shizuku follows her, finally speaking.
"You live here?" she asks, ascending slowly behind the woman. "I do. I do, and you don't. Why are you here?" Sachiko asks. The answer to that question is not clear to either party, evidently.
Shizuku feels as though she must make a decision.
The world fades in slowly, first with sounds. People talking, some louder than others, none distinct enough to properly make out. It's not at all like what she was hearing mere moments prior, though what exactly that was is slipping through her fingers like so much sand. Her vision clears somewhat from the all-consuming whiteness, and with that clearing, her mind is restored.
Shizuku Osaka looks around her. There are people, none dressed in modern fashion, giving her looks as they walk past. As best she can tell, the scene is that of a market, perhaps at some point in the 1700s, though japan certainly wasn't open to western culture enough for this mixed style of dress at that point in the real world. She almost feels like an extra in a strange play, or perhaps she's dreaming.
Adding to the anachronism, Shizuku notices a figure walking purposefully towards her from across the market. They're dressed in what one would usually describe as wizard robes, and a hood obscures their face. Their pace is worrying, very much so, and Shizuku feels as though she must do something about the matter.

poll ends in about nine and a half hours from now, as of posting!
A demand is made.
Shizuku's attempt to blend in has failed due to her clothes being conspicuous. The wizard has caught up to her, and has stated that she's not supposed to be here. Their voice seems familiar, but Shizuku isn't entirely confident she can place it right now. The wizard then explains that there is danger of being seen and heard, and demands that the Shizuku accompanies them to their tower to talk further.

Mind racing, she makes it. The person seems angry, so Shizuku tries to lose them through the crowd a little before getting into her role as an ordinary market-goer.
She leans over some apples, pretending to study them and choose which to buy. The seller greets her in Japanese, which is a relief, and she greets them back. She continues to inspect the fruit, but is grasped by the shoulder.
"You're not supposed to be here," says a voice that very nearly sounds familiar. Shizuku instinctively turns around, coming face to face with the wizard who had evidently indeed been approaching her.
"Hello! May I help you?" Shizuku says, acting as though nothing is wrong. She can see pale hair and a paler face from underneath the hood, but it's not enough to identify the person.
"You're not supposed to be here. Don't think you can hide from me, especially not while wearing nightclothes at a time such as this. We are not to discuss that here though; prying eyes are everywhere but my tower. You will follow me to it now, and we will talk," the wizard demands, voice tinged with impatience.
Shizuku feels as though she must make a decision.

reminder that as of this reblog, this poll has ~5 hours left!
A worrying wizard(?) approaches.
Someone dressed in wizard robes is approaching Shizuku from across the strange market she finds herself in. Their pace is purposeful, and concerningly fast.

reminder that the protagonist poll has ~5 hours left at the time of this post! tumblr is having a bit of a moment, so I can't reblog it, but I can post this reminder.
the protagonist choice will decide what style the POV is narrated in, as well as both how the protagonist reacts to her environment and how the environment reacts to her. there is no "right answer"; none of the 3 are given significant advantages or disadvantages by nature, only differences. what matters is how the audience has her approach situations.
characters that lose the protagonist poll may still play a role yet, as the story is flexible. this means there's no need to worry if your preferred character is not chosen as the protagonist! she'll be around.

Someone wakes up.
The air in this place is filled with voices, some louder than others, all too mixed to be distinct. It's not at all like the sounds of what the girl was doing just a moment ago, though that moment ago is - as everything is - hard to recall. Her vision clears somewhat, and with it, her mind. Her sense of self.
