A Caged Dove Part 1 (Shouto Todoroki x Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: You are a princess from a smaller territory within the kingdom, summoned to the castle to meet with the heir of the throne in the absence of your parents. You think it will simply be a routine trip, until you realize that Prince Shouto has his own plans for you. Whether you agree with them or not.
Pairing: Prince Shouto Todoroki x Reader Rating: T+ for this chapter, but E+ for future ones. Chapter Warnings: Yandere themes, obsession, suggestion of forced marriage Series Warnings:  noncon, dubcon, breeding, forced marriage, forced pregnancy, stalking, yandere Word Count: 2k+ Note: My entry for @bnhabookclub event! Fairy tale AU (although more Grimm than Disney.) I am extremely excited to be doing something for this, and for joining the Discord soon. This idea really struck my muse until I decided to give it a shot, and it blossomed into a multi-chapter fic. I hope you guys like it! Thank You: To @thewheezingwyvern, who discussed this idea with me for hours and then screeched at me for hours more to woman up and actually do it. You only had to screech an average of 9 times before I started, so this is a new record. @jojosmilktea, thank you for making the gorgeous banner for me! I am but a humble peasant compared to your banner making, and must bow to the queen.
One || Two || Three || Four || Five (Finale)
You don’t think you’ve ever felt so nervous before, standing outside the throne room of the royal Todoroki family. You had received a missive just a few days ago, summoning you immediately to the castle for an audience with Prince Todoroki himself, heir to the throne of the kingdom.
It was not often that someone of your class had an audience with the Crown Prince, so although you have received a full education and are quite knowledgeable in matters of the Court, you cannot help but be nervous nevertheless. An occasion like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, something that can make or break a noble family, especially one of the lesser noble families such as yours.
You fuss with your outfit one more time, trying to look your best and distract yourself when the doors finally open. One of the royal guards walks out from the throne room and motions you forward. “This way, Princess. His Royal Highness is ready to see you.”
You give a quick nod and begin to walk through the doors to the throne room, your bodyguard trailing behind you, when you hear the royal guard speak up.
“You have been instructed to see His Royal Highness without bodyguards, Princess.”
You pause for a second before glancing over to your bodyguard who gives you an imperceptible shake of the head, indicating that he does not want you to go alone. You wave him off and continue to the throne room. You’re in the heart of the royal palace, you think to yourself, you will be fine.
As you enter the huge double doors to the throne room, what you see in there almost stops you in your tracks. The splendor and beauty of this room is like nothing you have ever seen before. The room itself is huge, with tall ceilings that stretch up to beautiful domes. Statues of previous rules line the walls which are inlaid with what looks like pure gold.
And at the end of the room, sitting in a massive throne, sits Prince Shouto Todoroki himself. You have never seen him in person before, and you realize the gossip of his beauty were not exaggerated. His hair is two toned, cut down the middle with one side being white and one side being red. His eyes are the same, the piercing nature of them staring into what feels like your very soul.
He does not take his eyes off of you the entire time it takes you to walk to his throne, leaving you to feel off balance at the intensity you find in them. You barely remember to drop your gaze, the weight of them almost too hard to look away from.
You finally make it to the throne, stopping a respectable length away from him and falling into a deep curtsy to show your respect. As you bring yourself upright, you wait for him to say the first words.
“Ah, I am very glad that you could make it, Princess. I hope you had a pleasant journey.” Well of course I made it, you think, I had no choice but to answer the Crown Prince’s summon.
You push the thought down and give a gracious nod. “Of course, I am honored to meet you, Your Highness.”
“I was informed that your parents were called away on urgent business, and as such, could not make it today.”
“That is correct, Your Highness, which is why I was sent in their place as ambassador for our territory.” You are momentarily surprised he knows this information so quickly, but you suppose it makes sense for the royal family to be so well connected.
“I remember meeting with them several times while checking on the state of the country with my parents. They seemed like very kind people. I do hope it is nothing serious.”
You remember this occasion well. Your territory is important, but still minor in comparison to the royal family. A visit from them was a huge deal, and there had been preparation done for months before they ever arrived. You met Prince Shouto there very briefly, and it was an encounter you never forgot. He seemed like the very picture of the perfect prince, and you admit to having an almost schoolgirl crush on him.
“Ah, but I am sure you want me to get to the point. You must be concerned as to why you were summoned here today.”
You consider denying that you are nervous, but you think better of lying. “I will admit that I am a little nervous, yes. Someone of my rank is not often summoned by the Crown Prince.”
“Of your rank? You do not give yourself enough credit.” He gives you a small smile. “I have summoned you here for a proposal, after all.”
A proposal? Your heart drops into your stomach as you hear the word proposal. Surely he doesn’t mean…? But it is confirmed by his next sentence, as he sees the confusion on your face.
“Yes, that kind of proposal,” he chuckles, “I am sure you have heard the rumors that I am seeking a wife.”
You had, in fact, heard the rumors. But you had written it off as just that, rumors. Or, even if it was more than that, something that ultimately did not concern you or your family. There were far more suitable matches for the heir to the throne, after all.
The Todoroki family ruled the country with a fair hand and were well loved by everyone, and as such, were constantly called to mediate over disputes and enforce laws. The best match for the Crown Prince would have been one of the more troubled territories, perhaps even another country. Something that would help secure more alliances for the country.
“I don’t -- I’m not sure I understand,” you trail off, before remembering yourself at the last minute, “Your Highness.”
If he notices your almost slip up, he says nothing and simply continues. “Did your parents not mention it to you?”
You quickly shake your head. “Mention what, your Highness?”
“I requested permission to court your hand in marriage, and your parents agreed.”
The shock of such a casual statement has you reeling. Why would he be courting you, and furthermore, why would your parents have agreed? They were nobility, yes, but they were simple people who were content with their lot in life. They never would have wanted you thrown into the atmosphere of court life.
“But why wouldn’t they mention anything to me about this, my lord?”
You realize belatedly that you did not address him correctly, and a rush of embarrassment hits you at losing your manners in such a way. You worry that you’re going to be kicked out of the castle in disgrace at this rate.
But he simply gives you a smile and ignores your faux pas, a smile that should put you at ease but instead simply makes you feel on edge. You’re being ridiculous, you think to yourself, he is from a family of kind hearted and fair people. Nothing is going to happen to you besides a little social embarrassment.
“One of your retainers mentioned they had been called out with little notice, correct? I imagine they were about to tell you, but the emergency caused them to forget in their haste to deal with the situation.”
His voice and words are reasonable, but something about this situation seems off. Your parents are not forgetful, and are known as some of the most reliable in the country. This level of emergency was unusual as well, for both of your parents to be away at the same time. You were not generally left alone to deal with the ruling of your territory. And then to be summoned by the Crown Prince himself, with a marriage proposal at that...all of your noble training has your instincts screaming at you.
But your noble training also demands that you not bring up any of this to your superiors. “Of course, Your Highness,” you say as you curtsy a bit, “that sounds very possible.”
“Then you will accept?” He is obviously asking a question, but his tone says otherwise, the iron in his voice making it obvious that there is only one correct answer to this question.
“This is all happening very fast, Your Highness,” you desperately try to reason, “may I have enough time to think it over?” You are being thrown into a situation that you are not prepared to handle, and if you could only delay things just a bit until your parents got back, then things can still go okay.
“No, you may not.” But your hope is instantly dashed. “You will give me your answer before you leave this room.” This time, it’s not even phrased as a question. A sliver of fear slides up your spine at the way he’s acting, at all of the breaches of formality that he’s abandoning. There is something horribly wrong here, and yet nothing you can do about it.
“I am not asking you to marry me tomorrow. Simply consent to allow me to court you.” He stands up from his throne at this as he begins to walk towards you. You’re aware of just how tall he is as he moves towards you, until he’s standing far too close for propriety's sake.
“I - I just,” you stammer a bit, cringing internally at the breach of your own sense of formality that is now occurring. But everything about this meeting is not normal, and you have been thrown off balance too much to respond quickly. “I apologize for my manners. Of course I consent, Your Highness.”
You find yourself staring into those deep, heterochromatic eyes, not wanting to look away but knowing that you have to. When you finally find the strength, he grabs you by the chin, his hand being far too cool against your heated skin. Shock runs through your system as you’re forced to meet the eyes of Prince Shouto, who is staring at you with an emotion that you just can’t seem to place no matter how hard you try.
“Since I’m going to be courting you, Princess,” he whispers to you as he trails a finger down your jawline, “why don’t we just skip formalities? Call me Prince Shouto.”
Your eyes widen at the implication of calling him that, something that only family may call the heir to the throne. He wants this to already be a done deal, but there has to be some way to still get out of this. The Royal Todoroki family would never force anyone into marriage. You just need to play along a little longer until you can think of a way out of this.
“Of course, Prince Shouto,” you say, and you watch his face light up. He looks almost boyish when he smiles, no longer quite the severe prince that he truly is, and for a second you feel glad at putting that smile on his face as you remember the meeting with him years ago. But you come back to the reality of the situation quickly and scold yourself for behaving like a doey eyed schoolgirl.
“Then it’s settled,” he steps back from you, although he looks reluctant to do so. “I have prepared you a room in the south wing of the castle, and you will have attendants waiting there to take care of any need you may have. Someone will pick up tomorrow at brunch, and I expect you to be ready.”
“What do you want me ready for,” you ask cautiously.
“I wish to show you around the castle, of course. If this is to be your home, then you need to familiarize yourself with it. And it will be a good way for us to get to know each other better, don’t you think?”
“Then I’ll be ready, my --- Prince Shouto,” you instantly correct yourself at the last minute. But his smile widens when he hears you say “my prince,” like it pleases him. He gives a quick nod and a gesture at the door to indicate that you are free to go. But as you turn away to walk to the door, you miss the way his smile turns victorious, a dark chuckle rising from his chest as he sits back down on his throne.

Fairytale Complex - [Undertale | Sans x Reader]
[Gender Neutral, Frisk's Parent Reader | Slow Burn]
Chapter Thirteen | Waterfall (Part 2 of 4)
[First] | [Previous] | [Next]
You keep repeating to yourself this is nothing but a simple and friendly outing, though it's easy to forget with how insistent Frisk and Undyne have been in terms of suggesting the opposite.
The feeling's made worse when you get down from the ride and see how grand and overwhelming the place you've been invited to is. In comparison to the warm and calm ambiance of a regular bakery or a small coffee shop, you're met with people clad in semiformal outfits and a refined atmosphere -- similar to that of a five-star restaurant. What reminds you this is just a place for eating desserts is being greeted at the front by a humbler-dressed, white-furred rabbit monster labeling himself as the second owner of the shop, the name 'Roger' spelled out on his name tag. He greets you and Sans in, and offers you a pamphlet.
"I remember you," he says, facing Sans with a smile. "You're from Snowdin, aren't you? It's nice to see you've found a date up here!" The excitement in his tone warns he's about to ramble. "It's so refreshing to see other people like us! Honestly, we… We made this shop hoping more would show up, but you two are the second couple I've had the knowledge of serving here so far!"
"Like us?" you ask, facing the monster. "Is your partner human?"
"Yes!" he takes your hand while his nose twitches with pent-up energy. "People always come here talking a little, well... mean about it, so I always have to stay on-watch. The first couple that came here got scared off by one of those customers, but now my girlfriend makes sure to keep an eye out!" He lets go, apologizing after. "I get too excited every time I see pairs like you walk in together, but they always tell me they're just friends! And while I get that, really it's... It's such a joy to have you guys here!"
"We're actually not-"
"I get what you mean." In the spur of the moment, you interrupt Sans when he tries to say the truth. Roger's excitement is too bright to rain on, resulting in you wanting to play along. With how he is, you're sure the skeleton's not going to let you live it down, but one look at the hope in the other monster's eyes is enough to make your heart turn to mush. "This is actually our first date, but we're getting there."
Roger smiles, though it soon fades as he looks at the approaching line of customers from afar. Then, he looks to the shop to see the ones who entered in before you have already sat down. "Sorry for holding you back so much," he adds, huffing as an apologetic look makes its way through. "I try really hard not to get too excited about this kind of stuff, but again... It's so nice to have you guys here!" He points over to the counter, smile reappearing. "Go ahead and stop by the counter, alright? You can order to-go, or sit down, if you want to stay!"
"Thank you," you reply, returning his smile.
You make way into the shop with Sans by your side, avoiding eye contact all the way to the counter. You already know he has a comment on the ready, so it's not much of a surprise when you hear him speak up right before making it there. "So," he says, chuckling. "First date, huh?" He walks a little closer to your side, trying to get you to look at him, but failing. "...Was that meant as a lie, or are you hintin' at somethin' else there, pal?"
"I'm not sure what to think of this myself, but…" You stop halfway, not wanting to admit your own wants just yet. "In the end, I only did it 'cause I couldn't bring myself to get his hopes down." A pink-furred bunnywoman takes your order. The reply you'd given Sans by text is then worded out by him, along with his own order and Frisk's favourite dessert to-go. While you have your wallet close by, you're not told to pay yet, and are instead led to an empty table, where you're both left to wait. You thank the monster as she leaves and go back to your conversation with Sans as soon as she's gone from your sight. "But even if this was a date, I still don't think I'd be able to accept having another one after today's."
At that, his curiosity rises, shown by the subtle flicker in his irises. "What do you mean?"
You avoid his gaze by toying with the cutlery left on the table. "I need to focus more on raising Frisk before going anywhere with my love life."
"Why?" There's honest confusion in his question despite how blunt and intrusive it is without any proper context, something he catches onto by using another one to elaborate his meaning better. "So you haven't dated anyone ever since that day?"
You nod while thanking a waiter, this one a brown bear dressed in more formal wear; he sets two drinks down -- one for you and one for your company. "I haven't, and to be honest I'd…" Your chest feels tight as so does your throat, both of these almost trying to distract you away from what you're about to say. "I'd like to keep it that way for as long as it's needed." You try to stop yourself from saying anything else, though the coziness of the shop and Sans's presence give you an entry for letting out what's been kept hidden for as long as that day came around. "I need to be there for Frisk, and I need to be more careful of who I date from now on." You're not sure what else's making you open up so much, but you don't exactly stop yourself from continuing with your thoughts. "You see, I… I really don't want Frisk to grow up in an environment full of constant fights and disagreements."
As soon as you catch yourself, your brain makes a stop, yet your mouth continues to pour out what's making your heart strain as much as it is currently. "There's already enough of that in the world waiting out there for Frisk when they grow up, so the least I can do is make it a little easier for them right now." Your mind hates you at this point, though you can feel the rest of your body grow lighter, tension releasing itself from it. "That's why… why I didn't really try to stop Jerry when he started to drift away; when visits became just once a month, rather than twice a week. We didn't really get along well after we (had/adopted) Frisk, so that's why… That's why I figured it was best to let him go."
When you hear your voice turn weak, you stop, mind sending endless comments of disapproval into your thoughts. You flinch when you have a napkin offered out to you, but you take it when you see Sans nod, still waiting for you. He then pulls back quickly, still avoiding your touch. "So, what I'm gettin' at here's that you feel just as responsible as Frisk did over what happened that day," he says, voice low and tone solemn. "Or at least, that's what it looks like."
Sans stops and looks behind you. The same waiter from before appears next to you and places your dessert first and later his; once more, you thank him and wait until he leaves the table. When he's gone, your companion speaks up again, setting the plate aside to focus on you more. "Don't wanna assume things right off the bat, but…" He takes a pause, picks up a fork, and pierces it through the pastry. Then, he faces you, continuing with, "You kinda feel like you've gotta make up for that? Limiting yourself that much ain't really the best option there is, though."
You hum, face away, and pick up a portion off your dessert to distract yourself from him. "I just don't trust myself enough to make the right decision again." You take the first bite; the sweet's flavour helps you with the situation.
The harmony of cutlery clicking and outside chatter blend into the background as your conversation with him carries on. While you listen, you take another bite off your dessert to make matters less tense. "Y'know, if this helps, most of us think you did a good job raising the kid." He stops again and brings the cup closer to him. "If you look at it this way, you helped with lettin' 'em make their own choices and decide how to approach monsters back then. In a sense, we're all connected one way or the other -- kinda like how you start off as their teacher, and then take them to an actual school where they'll continue to grow as a person." He sways the drink around and looks down at it for a moment. "And even if it's possible for a kid their age to start shapin' their own mindset and decide what's good, what's alright, and what's not, most of it's still based off what they've been taught so far. They're not fully in control of who they are yet, and that's why it's often a huge responsibility to take -- parenting, teaching, and all that."
He stops again to take a swing from his drink. The view of his skull contorting to allow him a sip was one surprising to watch the first time you saw him and Papyrus eating some of Toriel's vegetable stew the day of the blackout, and even more intriguing the time you invited him over for a meal after finishing with your errands at the school supply. Now that you're seeing it for a third time though, you focus far too much on it, yet you try to brush it off and pay more attention to him. There's plenty of questions present in regard to how monsters worked the way they did -- each different in their own way, given how many types there are -- but you're not quite sure if it would be proper to bring them out so suddenly right now.
"Basically," he continues, setting the drink down. "When you're at that young of an age, you don't have a full understanding of who you are, and that's why it's so important for lil' kids to have good, or at least decent examples for them to follow." He faces you. How direct his gaze feels makes you look away, feeling embarrassment burn your face. "And so pretty much based on how Frisk acted during their time at the Underground, I can tell they've been raised well." His gaze drifts off behind you again, though there's a different look to it this time. In contrast to the one he'd given earlier to acknowledge the waiter's arrival, there's caution present in his irises. "What I'm sayin' here is: you're a good parent, (Y/N). And if you feel like you have to restrain yourself from livin' life, you really shouldn't. You're-"
"Hey, Kevin," a man says, voice coming from behind you. "What did the skeleton say to the hog?"
The strangeness behind his gaze makes more sense now; the voice that sounds from behind you's far too annoying for it not to belong to trouble.
You hear laughter and another voice reply with, "I don't know, Brayan. What?"
Brayan fakes a swoon and attempts to mimic what you can only assume is Sans's voice, saying, "Oh, you're the exact opposite of me -- all fat and no bones. What a catch!"
More laughter.
"Wait, wait," Kevin says, voice now heard from closer by. "I've- I've gotta good follow-up to that one." Even more obnoxious laughter's heard from him, and a not-so adorable snort comes from Brayan. "I might be fat, but you're the real pig here -- liking me only because of those weird tastes of yours!"
"What's bothering you, mi chicharrón*? You're my type. I'm only saying the truth!
"And I'm done with you, you bonehead!"
One of the two men emerge next to Sans and attempts to push him off his chair to follow-up to their impromptu play, with enough flamboyance and sass to make Shakespeare proud.
You step in, grabbing by the arm who you assume's Kevin and keeping him from finishing his joke. He freezes, though he soon recovers, a grin replacing his surprise. "Hey look, Brayan," he calls out. "Piggy's all angry now!"
Done too quick for you to react, you feel something cold pour over your chest and look to your left to see Brayan with a grin on his face and with an empty glass left on his hand. "Cool off," he says, laughing.
Before you can process it, something trips his feet and sends his donkey to the ground.
Both your drink and the skeleton's end up thrown on him as a familiar blue aura surrounds both of the glasses.
"Wh- What the hell, man?" he shouts, flustered. "Who did that?!"
The human owner of the establishment appears right behind him and brings him into an arm lock. She's just as formally dressed as the bear waiter; a long red dress matches with her lipstick and does the opposite with her light skin and bright ginger hair. The name ‘Jessica’ is spelled neatly on her name tag. "Sounds to me like you're the one who needs to cool off first," she says, pulling him to his feet. Her teeth are clenched and a frown shapes her mouth. "Tell your friend he needs to follow me if he doesn't want the same treatment." She drags both men along with her, leaving you alone with Sans -- plus an audience too big for your liking.
The brown bear makes his appearance again. A mess of apologies exit his mouth as he rushes over with two new drinks and a towel hung over his shoulder. Sans helps him by taking the latter and approaching your side.
"You okay?" he asks. Carefully, he sets the towel over you, hands moving stiff and awkward when he tries to wrap it around your torso. You bite back a smile at that, his current reticence helping you forget about Brayan and Kevin's actions. Even with how daring he was while flirting, he was inevitably trying his best not to cross unwanted lines with you. "Was it hot?"
Stop.
That word repeats itself over and over in your mind as you use the towel to pull him closer to you, his hands still holding onto it. You take them, let him hold onto your waist, and allow your smile to shine through, heart pounding all the while. "No," you reply, grinning. "But you worrying about me kinda is." You kiss his cheekbone, murmuring a 'thank you, Sans' close to his ear cavity.
The crowd goes wild, whistles and woots being let out as you keep your lips there for a moment, right until you feel his skull turn hot to the touch. When you pull back, his irises are wide, jumpy, and bright, these trying their best to look away from you. He lets go of the towel, steps back, and sits down on his chair while the crowd settles out.
"Uh..." he mutters, short of breath. "No problem, (Y/N)."

The First Date | Lee Felix | Oneshot
Title: The First Date
Pairing: Felix x Reader
Synopsis: Felix finds out his best friend has never gone on a date and makes it his mission to take them on the best date ever
Genre/Warnings: Fluff, angst (?), best friends, college!au, seemingly unrequited love
Words: 2.6k
Requested: No
Tumblr media
“So you're telling me that you’ve never been on a date before?”
I buried my face into my crossed arms and hoped the ground would open up and swallow me whole. I don’t know how we ended up on this topic but I didn't want to look up across the table at Felix and have him tease me for being inexperienced.
The vibrations of him tapping on the table near the top of my head called for my attention. “Okay fine,” I raised my head and glared at the guy in front of me, “I’ve never been on a date. At my big age, I’ve never been on a date.”
Felix held his hands up in surrender and chuckled, picking up his pen and going back to writing his notes for his music theory class. He seemed to get the message that this was a topic I was embarrassed about and now it's become something I wouldn’t be able to shake from my focus on for the rest of my day. To think, I’ve gone this far without even striking up a relationship with anyone.
“You know,” Felix spoke up, bringing me out of my thoughts, “it's not uncommon to never have been on a date at this age. You’re a college student, you've got things to do! Some people are just too busy for dates right now.”
“You know when people try to comfort you but it just makes you feel worse?” I grumbled
He rubbed the back of his neck and smiled meekly at me. “Sorry.”
“No, it's just that I’m not busy which means there's got to be something wrong with me. I’m taking it easy with my classes and work and yet instead of meeting new people and going on dates, my spare time is filled with staying at home and watching dramas.” I slumped back on the desk and sulked.
“You forgot to mention you spend a lot of time with yours truly over here.” Felix pointed at himself smugly before his expression suddenly changed to one of excitement. “(Y/n) I’ve just had the most brilliant idea.”
I signalled for him to continue with my hand.
“Go out with me.”
A silence settled between us, Felix with his wide smile and me with an incredulous look on my face. When he realised I wasn't going to say anything, he continued.
“Okay hear me out, you’ve never been on a date–”
“We have established that many times already, move on.”
“–Right, okay, so you don't want to get desperate and throw yourself at the first guy willing to take you out and you end up having a shitty time, yeah?”
“You’re making me out to be quite pathetic but if I’m having this stupid conversation with you I guess you’re not wrong.”
“Who better to take you out than your best friend? I’ll make sure you have a good– no, the best first date ever! Then you don't have to sulk so much over this.” If he could, Felix would definitely throw himself some sort of awards ceremony with the way he was patting his own back over his idea.
I thought about it, what was the harm? He was right, I would have a good first date --at least I hoped I would but I didn't know how much I could trust that idiot’s definition of ‘good’-- and I’d get to check ‘first date’ off of the imaginary to-do list in my head. What could go wrong?
You could fall for him
I quickly shook the intrusive thought out of my head and nodded, holding my hand out to shake with Felix’s
“It's a date.”
Tumblr media
I looked at the box that Felix dropped off at my apartment room, wondering what the hell was inside. Surely I could just open it but the velvet lining and the silk ribbon told me I couldn't afford whatever it was.
After a few minutes of nail biting and contemplation, I slowly tugged the ribbon loose and opened the box to a dress. It was definitely something I would see and turn away from because the price would scare me off.
I held it up in front of me and looked in the mirror. It was short and bouncy, a fun patterned dress that could be dressed up or worn casual. As I turned to put it back, I noticed an envelope addressed to me.
In cursive it wrote,
’To my dearest (y/n),
I hope you're looking forward to our date. I’ve picked this out for you to wear tomorrow cause I know you’ll definitely stress about it. Aren’t I the best?
Yours truly,
Felix.
(ps. I hope your bedroom floor isn't as destroyed as I know it is.)’
I looked at all the scattered clothes I had thrown on the ground just an hour ago in an attempt to find the perfect outfit for our date tomorrow.
“Jesus Christ… he couldn't have dropped this off a little earlier?”
Tumblr media
A knock on my door signalled Felix’s arrival and I jumped up excitedly to let him in. I opened the door to be greeted with his warm smile and crescent moon eyes. He pulled his hand out from behind him and presented me with a single red rose.
“For you.”
I couldn't help the blush that crept up my face as I accepted the flower, hoping that my makeup was enough to hide it.
“Thank you for this... Oh and the dress, it’s really nice.”
I spun to show it off and laughed as he applauded. “My taste is immaculate,” he praised himself. “Are you ready to go?”
“Yeah, just let me grab my jacket.” I turned to get it until I felt Felix’s hand circle my wrist.
“No no no you're doing it wrong. If you get cold, then I would simply have to lend you my jacket. That’s why I wore this one, it matches your look.”
I could only laugh at how silly he was being but I went along with it anyways. As we left my apartment, his hand dropped from my wrist and slipped into mine. We’ve held hands many times before and we’ve hung out many times before but the context of this being a date made my heart beat just that little bit faster.
“So, what's the plan?” I asked looking up at Felix. He let go of my hand to open the car door for me, closing it after I got in. He hopped into the driver's seat and strapped himself in.
“First, I’ll take you to a stupid restaurant where the portions are small and the prices are high. We’ll feel a little awkward because we don't know how to act but we keep up a facade of small talk and shallow laughs,”
I nodded along, enjoying his narrative. He started the car and drove, turning on the radio and lowering the volume so he could continue.
“Then we’ll leave unsatisfied and hungry. I’ll ask ‘so… did you enjoy it?’ and you respond with a polite ‘yeah it was nice.’ Then we’ll sit in an uncomfortable silence for a bit until we settle on an unspoken mutual understanding that it was shit. That's when you speak up and say…” he looked over at me and prompted me to speak.
“Uhhh, lets go get some real food?”
“Correct! And I’ll respond with ‘I know just the place.’ so then I drive us to– Oh, look there’s our first destination.”. I looked out the window to an italian restaurant. After we drove in, my door was opened by a worker and Felix tossed his keys to the valet.
“Come on (y/n)! We’ve got a reservation to get to.”
I jogged up to Felix and slipped my hand into the crook of his elbow.
“You didn't finish your story.”
“Well I guess you’re going to have to see this date through to find out how it ends.”
Tumblr media
Felix was very detailed in his plan. The portions of the meals were indeed small and their prices weren't even listed on the menu --‘that’s how you know they're stupid expensive’ he commented while looking through it--
During dinner he really stuck to the ‘awkward small talk’ act, from the way he fiddled with his cutlery, to the way he stuttered when he talked.
(”So… what do you do for a living?” Felix looked up at me and then had his gaze dart back down to the pasta on his plate, pushing the food around stiffly with his fork.
“Felix you literally picked me up from my shift two days ago,” I deadpanned.
“You know,” he twirled the noodles with his fork, “you’re really taking the fun out of this awkward start to the date. Could you at least give me a dry answer?”
I couldn't help but soften at his pout. “I’ll do you one better.” I sat up straight, chewed on my lip a bit while shifting my eyes away from the man in front of me, choosing to focus on the pattern of the floor of the restaurant.
I let out a pretend anxious cough and spoke up, “Uhh… I do office work. You know just dealing with filing papers and data entry, low level stuff that isn't interesting to talk about.”
I looked up through my hair at Felix who was trying his best to hold back a smile, instead pursing his lips together to stifle a laugh.
“Oh o-okay. I mean we don't have to talk about your work, I j-just–”
“No,” I cut him off, “it's fine. Um, we could think of a different topic?”
“Yes let's do that.”
And then we sat in silence for another minute, only hearing the sounds of our cutlery scraping against the plates.
As much as this little performance was meant to be awkward, I’d never felt more comfortable acting stupid with Felix.)
We sat back in the car silently, waiting for the other to speak up.
“So, how was the food?” Felix asked.
I pretended to contemplate a bit before answering with a curt, ‘It was okay. I enjoyed it.’
Felix nodded, looking out the window clearing his throat to break the silence.
“Okay you know what, let’s get this part of the night over and done with,” I reached over and tugged on Felix’s arm to get his attention, “let's go get some real food.”
A smirk made its way on his face and he started the car, “I know just the place.”
Tumblr media
As we sat on the sidewalk eating our cheap burritos from the food truck parked across the street, I couldn't help but admire how Felix looked. He had loosened up his proper look from the beginning of the night, tousling his gelled hair a bit and unbuttoning the first two buttons of his button up. The lights from the small carnival set up behind us illuminated his features flawlessly, accentuating the sharpness of his jawline. When it came to bone structure, Felix was definitely gifted with it. His button nose and full lips rounded out his features, balancing his look perfectly.
To put it simply, Felix was beautiful.
As I took the last bite of my food, my ‘date’ pulled a clean tissue from his pocket and wiped the corners of my mouth. He then took the rubbish from my hands to toss it.
“If you hadn’t guessed–” he held both my hands to pull me up– “we’re going to the fair. We’ll play some games, I’ll do my best to win you something despite the fact the system is rigged, and we’ll end the night on the ferris wheel.”
Before I could respond, Felix was already tugging me along as he dashed in past the gates, laughing maniacally and I couldn't help but burst out in laughter with him.
Tumblr media
I could smell his cologne as it enveloped me. I felt like sinking into his blazer that he passed me as soon as we got into the cab of the ferris wheel.
“I can’t believe you ended up winning this for me,” Felix sulked holding up the dinosaur plushie.
“Sorry. Should I keep it for myself instead?” I teased reaching out for it and he quickly pulled it back to him in a hug.
“No. I just hoped this date would go as planned.”
I scoffed playfully in response, looking out at the lights below. Despite the fact that Felix thinks his plan went slightly off track, it was still amazing. Playing games with Felix, cracking jokes and simply enjoying each other’s company made it the perfect first date. My heart palpitated just thinking back to when the night started up until now and I couldn't believe how it was making me feel.
I looked over at Felix and locked eyes with him. The way he was looking at me made my heart stop palpitating and instead clench. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach go crazy with the way his gaze held mine. It was as if I was the only thing that existed to him at that moment.
Or at least, that's what I had hoped.
I looked back to the lights below and cleared my throat.
“Geez Felix, you’re really taking this ‘first date’ role seriously huh?” The ground got closer and the ride went slower as our time on the ferris wheel ended.
Felix smiles his usual grin that turned his eyes to half crescents. “Of course! As I said, I’m making sure this was the best first date ever.”
Ah yes, he was just completely immersed in his act.
Unfortunately, I was also completely immersed in his act and I couldn't help but long for the night to stretch out just a little bit longer.
Tumblr media
We stood outside my apartment door and reality was slowly starting to come back to me.
I moved to take off the blazer to pass it back to Felix but he only shook his head and pulled it back onto my shoulders. “It’s fine, you gotta keep the look complete right?”
“Right… I want to thank you for today. It was honestly the best first date I could’ve hoped for and I really appreciate the time and effort you put into making it the best for me.”
The grin on his face was now a soft smile as he looked down at me.
“It was no problem at all. I’m glad you enjoyed yourself.”
Whether it was intentional or not, Felix was back in his awkward state.
“Well, I should head in. Get home safe.” I turned to unlock my door but Felix caught my wrist, pulling me back to him gently.
“Wait, we should end this properly,” he stepped closer to me and lifted his hand to cup my cheek, “(Y/n), can I kiss you?”
His eyes bore into mine and had me trapped. I couldn't look away. It was as if he had some sort of power to reel me in and leave me speechless. I merely nodded my head.
I caught a glimpse of a small smile before he dipped his head down and captured my lips with his. Although it was very brief, I reveled  in every second of it before he pulled away.
With a small wave and sad heart, I thanked him as I closed the door.
The idea of my best friend taking me out on the best date ever was good but I had stupidly fallen for him. Heartbreakingly enough, we were no longer two people on a date but two best friends, and for the sake of my heart and sanity, I had to pretend one of the best nights of my life had never happened.
Tumblr media
I like the concept and the narrative and how I picture this in my head but I don’t think I’ve conveyed it to the best of my abilities here lol. I kinda just wanted to post something.

Halloween Bash - Jaehee Kang
Hello and welcome to spooky season! For the next week I’m going to post a Halloween one shot every night. I random number generated the post order, prompts, and other little details about it, so I’ll be including those at the beginning of the story
Prompts: RFA party, bobbing for apples, stay all night
Summary: the RFA is throwing a little Halloween bash for its members. You and Jaehee dress to impress
You and Jaehee had put a lot of thought and effort into the RFA Halloween party. Rika had done it once before in the past and you wanted to bring it back and hopefully make it a fun tradition. You planned to have a costume contest, bobbing for apples, and the Monster Mash on repeat.
Jaehee had left the costumes up to you. It took you a while to find good costumes (there were a zillion Hetero couples costumes but you really struggled to find something creative for the two of you), but when you saw it you knew it was perfect. Of course, you couldn’t both win the costume contest, but you definitely wanted to match.
You walked into the coffee shop where Jaehee was hanging a streamers, and plopped the costumes onto the table next to her. “Are those the Scooby Doo characters?” She asked, glancing down at the costumes then focusing her energy back to the task at hand.
“Velma and Daphne! Jaehee, don’t tell me you didn’t know their names,” you sighed, plopping onto the chair next to her.
“I actually did watch Scooby Doo as a kid, but it’s been a while,” she smiled. She stuck one more piece of tape then carefully got off the chair she was standing on to sit next to you. “I think it’ll be quite cute.”
“Oo! I also got this hairspray stuff for you that temporarily dyes it orange. It might be kind of unnatural but-“
“You want me to be Daphne?” She cut you off, her eyebrows raised skeptically.
“Duh! I think you’d look really nice as her. Why? Would you rather be Velma?” You glanced down at the costumes. Fortunately you two were nearly the same size.
“No, I just. I don’t know... I assumed you’d want me to be Velma. I did look a lot like her...”
“Yeah, because Jumin made you. You look so beautiful now and I want you to embrace those changes! Putting on a short wig and glasses would do the exact opposite.”
She leaned across the table to grab your hand. “Thank you. I don’t think you understand how much that means to me.
“Of course. Now if you’re done with the decorations can I help you do the hair?”
“I set one banner up...”
You looked around. Huh. She was right. “Whoops. Got so excited I didn’t even notice that. Let me help you set things up first then.”
The two of you were an excellent team, obviously, and made quick work of setting up the decorations. Jaehee had splurged on some nice decorations. Lots and lots of pumpkins and pumpkin banners (to go with your pumpkin treats you had made ahead of time) and even a very realistic cauldron for the bobbing for apples game. Granted, her decor was very mild and not scary, spare one thing she splurged on. She set up one of those spiders that jump out at you when you walked past it, then put it by the entry.
“Jaehee... I didn’t know you were so diabolical...” you chuckled, putting batteries in the machine to get it running.
“I just want to see Mr. H- I mean Jumin, jump. He has a fear of spiders you know.”
“I’ll be sure to get it on camera,” you winked at her.
The next step was getting all dressed up. You started with the hair dye, which blended surprisingly well with her now-long hair. It wasn’t too neon, but enough that you could tell she was now a redhead. You helped her with some winged eyeliner, as she had never done a wing herself, and some sparkly pink lipgloss. Once she was all dressed, you took a step back to admire your handiwork. “Jaehee, you look kinda hot,” you complimented, suddenly feeling extremely embarrassed.
Her cheeks shot red from the compliment as she worked hard to look anywhere but your eyes. “You don’t think it’s too much?”
“No, I think you look exactly like her. Now will you help me get this wig on?”
Turns out getting a wig on is a two, probably three honestly, person task. Especially with your baby hairs that kept falling out of place. Luckily, Jaehee helped you fix it until it was absolutely perfect. You got all dressed next. “What do you think?” You asked, doing a little spin.
“They really didn’t include the glasses with the costume?” She asked, turning the bag upside-down to ensure you hadn’t missed anything. “Huh. Well, luckily for us I think I still have my old pair.”
Jaehee disappeared to the back. You heard a lot of rustling through drawers before she came back victorious. “No prescription or anything, just regular frames.” She carefully put them on your face. “Perfect. Now you look the part.”
You opened your phone camera to check your outfit. “We look GOOD! Best couples costume ever.” You glanced at the time. “And just in time too. We’ve gotta get to the front so we can see everyone get scared by the spider.
Jumin and Yoosung arrived together, no surprise since Yoosung was still his acting assistant. Jumin jumped slightly at the spider, but it was nowhere close to Yoosung, who backed into Jumin so quickly that he knocked the both of them over. You and Jaehee couldn’t contain your laughter, not making any movement to help them up.
Luckily there were no injuries, as the two got up relatively fast and made their way over to you. “Oh Assistant K- I mean, Jaehee,” Jumin said to you, “Some days I miss you more than others. And this is definitely one of those days.” He obviously did and didn’t mean it at the same time; he was teasing Yoosung. But oh! More pressing matters at hand.
“I’m not Jaehee,” you giggled. Jumin’s mouth fell open in shock. Obviously you were right; your voices were quite different, but you really pulled a fast one on him.
“Forgive me. I just thought... well, what are you two anyways?”
“You don’t know? They’re from Scooby Doo!” Yoosung yelled, very surprised that Jumin didn’t recognize it.
“Scooby huh?”
“Scooby Doo! It’s a kids show. You’re... more hopeless than I thought,” he said sadly.
“You two look nice! Frankenstein and his monster. Very creative.” You complimented them.
The conversation was halted when Zen walked in the room, bumping into the glass door as he jumped away from the spider. You all laughed this time.
Zen was quickly followed by Seven and V, who were not shocked by the spider at all. Figures. Zen was a vampire, V was dressed as a pirate, and Seven was... oh god why was he in his maid costume.
“You all look nice!” Jaehee complimented. “Let me get some music on and then we’ll start everything up.”
“Jaehee, that’s you!?” Zen exclaimed. “You look great!”
“Thanks!” She called. The Monsrer Mash started playing. She made her way back to the group. “Although it wasn’t exactly my idea.”
“I am a genius, I know.” You commented, accepting your praise. Jaehee hit your shoulder playfully and you got the party started.
The activity of the night was bobbing for apples. Was this a good idea? Probably not. But it’d be fun. You got to man the station and time how long it took everyone to get their apples. Jumin took the longest... literally over three minutes because he didn’t want to hurt his teeth. Zen was the quickest, trying to make sure he beat Jumin, which was not challenging to do.
Jaehee finished her turn and got right in the middle of the times. Her lipgloss was smeared down her face. “You know, maybe this idea had a few flaws,” you giggled, grabbing a paper towel to help her dry her face off. You very gently patted her face dry, using your finger to gently wipe the lipgloss away. It was strangely intimate and the two of you were both flushing messes, despite the fact that you were literally dating. No makeup problems for you though! The only issue was that the glasses fell off in the water, traditional Velma style, and the game became bobbing for glasses.
Zen’s prize for winning was a caramel apple designed to look like a pumpkin. Pretty creative from you and Jaehee to be honest. He rubbed it in Jumin’s face nonstop, and you figured he would for the next year until the next contest.
When it came down to voting for the best costume, it was no surprise to read out the results. Everyone had voted for Jaehee. There was one vote for you of course, because Jaehee was a supportive girlfriend and would NEVER vote for herself. Even Seven didn’t vote for himself which was, honestly, quite a relief. You were proud that her costume was so good Seven considered it better than his “Mary Vanderwood III” getup, whatever that meant.
Jaehee’s very special prize was homemade chocolate and pretzel bark the two of you had made the other night. Honestly, you were glad she won because it was so good and she would share it with you.
The two of you stayed all night. You sort of had to, considering it was taking place at your coffee shop. But you had a great time dishing out (non alcoholic) drinks and pumpkin cookies and candy.
You played pin the stem on the pumpkin (which V actually won, which honestly should not surprise anyone) and spent most of the time hearing everyone complaining about the Monster Mash playing for the fiftieth time. It wasn’t your fault. There weren’t that many Halloween songs and this one was Jaehee’s absolute favorite.
Once everyone left, the two of you plopped down on the sofa in the corner of the shop. “I’m so tired,” Jaehee groaned, resting her head on your shoulder and propping her feet up. “You sure we can’t just sleep here tonight?”
You laughed, chest shaking as you giggled, causing Jaehee to shift slightly. “We still have to open tomorrow at 6. And as much fun as it sounds to stay the night here, I’m worried your hair will become permanently orange if we don’t wash it out.”
She let out an exhasperated sigh, standing up and taking your hands to help pull you up. “Okay, but only if you help me wash it out. I’m too tired, and I don’t think I’ll be able to get the back.”
You winked at her. “Sure, whatever you say, Jaehee.”

Spirit Committee Mod’s Christmas Gift to you
So back earlier this year when I first started this blog, one of the first ever requests I received was a question asking me “What were my 20 favorite Housamo characters?” At first I really didn’t have an answer since I was trying to reintroduce myself to the cast, but now that I’ve ingrained myself into the community a decent bit I can give you guys what I look for in a Housamo character as my thanks to all of you for just enjoying my content really. I look for what appeals to me visually (I’m the kinda writer that likes em big and beefy) but also well written. While not every character may or may not be the best written character since there’s so much reading I have to go back and do, but I am comfortable 20 characters I find to be downright great.
My Top 10~20 Housamo Characters
Honorable Mentions: Characters who do definitely qualify in the Top 20, but are just simply hard to place exactly in a definitive slot (lists like these are pretty hard to write for in hindsight…)
~Aegir: This is a character that’s very hard to place for a few different reasons. On one hand he’s easily one of the more aesthetically pleasing characters to me and I don’t just mean his body. There’s just always something about outfits in Housamo that just look amazing and I think Aegir’s is one of the better ones because they both show off his best assets and are pretty snazzy. His color scheme in most of his outfits tend to say hes an ocean man and I like you can just tell by looking at him given the whites and blues along with the gold he adorns himself with. Sort of what you’d expect from a treasure hunter such as himself. And yes he is a total heart throb alongside that I do have a bit of Gacha bias here and for the next one since I have all variants of them and some really good artwork. On the other hand, what do I know about him? Well, he’s a pretty boisterous fellow who loves to show off and is a big man. What else? Um…. Unfortunately Aegir’s events aren’t fully translated and his voice lines and bio do leave a bit to be desired for me at least. When it comes to writing him I have no issues, but when it comes to trying to visualize him as a character among the vast cast it just becomes hard to give him a good place beyond “He has a nice chest and bulge” most of the time. It’s not anything personal and my opinion of him may change after this Christmas event is over and translated by the Housamo Blogspot and GomTang is one of my favorite artists working with LifeWonders so he may get bumped up or off. As an additional upside I do like how his gameplay in both of his variants reflect his character, it’s a nice touch game designers often do.
~Takemaru: Yes, both 2019 Christmas boys. And yes, it’s because of their tiddies. I’m mostly kidding… But in all seriousness Takemaru is one of the better offensive supports in the game who’s one of the easier units to pull in the gacha, especially right now considering he has an alt on the banner so in theory he should be showing up more frequently as a 3star. But that’s just a theory. The thing with Takemaru I like beyond his design is the fact with how genuine sweet he is as a character. He’s rough in how he speaks but his personality is very sincere (for the most part from what I can gather) However he falls into the same trap as Aegir since I haven’t read the events he’s a part of just yet. Plus he is a crafter boy and you never say no to a Crafter.
~Kengo: One of two Summoners on this list. I have a bit more preference for Kengo over the other summoner that did make the list, but to be as fair as I can in my judgment I have to leave Kengo in the 11-20 pile. Visually he has all the check boxes that just draw me to a character initially and his personality is simple, but I like that he’s simple. Characters don’t always need to be complex and multi faceted to be engaging, plus I just kinda want someone who would encourage me to be more active and I feel a few characters alongside Kengo would do that, he’s a Chad and a bro. So why is he not in the inner circle for this list? It’s cuz the story treats him the worst. What do I mean? deep breath If you’ve read Chapter 3 of the main story then you should know the absolute mess it is. It tries to shove in as many characters as possible during this part of the story which, okay understandable since this is a gacha game but they forgot to give Kengo, you know one of the cover boys, a proper role in the story and it really feels LifeWonders thought that they could bank on Kengo’s Himbo status and just showing us the others. But I need sustenance. I need to read! He did because he has moments that could have been much more if they just shifted the focus back on Kengo for more than a few moments at a time and he sort of highlights a lot of my issues with the way the stories are told in this game but those are for another time.
~Arc: In my perspective, the antithesis to Kengo. Not to say I find Arc visually unappealing, but they aren’t for me the way other characters are though. As a character though Arc’s story is honestly one of the best stories has to offer and they actually have (pardon my pun) an arc. I won’t spoil too much of their story because it’s all pretty late into the game but you really do sympathize with Arc and begin to understand the larger narrative the game has. Plus a nice detail is that Arc’s voice lines change depending on the point of the story you’re in I guess? Or maybe it was a release thing I’m not too sure how you trigger one over the other but they get 2 sets of lines. And they actually integrate Arc into the story and revolving cast pretty well instead of casting them to the wayside for 80% of their story. I can’t go much deeper than that unfortunately. All I can say is read Chapter 7 and 8 but do know that they are some of the more darker and serious chapters in the game so far.
~Durga: The only Yoyogi girl who strives to be number one. Unfortunately she joined the wrong list and wound up in the runner up tier. But for starters Durga has one of my favorite voice actresses who plays a number of my favorite characters in anime and games so I’m glad LifeWonders are capable of getting such talented voice work. As a character I know what this character is mostly about and the event I haven’t really read yet is her initial one so when that gets an official TL I’ll read it to grow more understanding. But from what I have now I can safely put her as one of my favorites because her drive to be number one is inspiring to try your best and everyone should follow her example to some degree. I say that because she really does feel naturally flawed given her alleged age. I won’t spoil much of Dreamland but I will say how Durga’s struggle is further amplified is totally understandable given her position in the group of athletes and her desire to always win and why she always pushes herself to be her best at any cost and it’s definitely something I can see someone doing (without as catastrophic a breakdown when it backfires and just learning what works best for her). As for why she’s not in the other category given my praise of her character is because I don’t have the full story much like with a few prior entries on the list. But when that event does get a TL at some point I do want to read it and finally have the full picture for her so I can rank her properly.
~Kyuma: I shall dub him my Kouhai because he is a first year. A lot of people don’t like Kowmei’s art, myself included, but overall his characters don’t really put me off that much since there’s only one in particular. Kyuma’s good though. He is a good, hardworking kouhai I’d enjoy being around given he seems the most levelheaded of his friends despite his age.  Or maybe its because of his age? There’s no grand singular reason he’s on this part of the list. He just needs to be in more events and get an actual alt. That’s all.
~Zao: I wish he was introduced in a better event because he is one of the better characters released in year one. But good lord does his event drag you through the dirt with terrible battles and awful pacing. It’s unfortunate his whole story is dragged down because the game was still in an early spot when this event originally came out. Outdated gameplay aside I think Zao does best in setting the precedent for shop units when it comes to writing and design. I like his arc going from a stubborn mountain man to a more open and accepting person. However he has a similar issue with Kengo where he has to share his spotlight with characters of varying degrees but unlike Kengo the other characters who appear in this event are meant to compliment Zao rather than detract from him.
~Amatsumara: He’s the dad of the Crafters and is who makes the Crafters really feel like a family. Every member feels like they have a role in the Guild and you can really see how much Amatsumara values them. He just seems like the doting father type who gives you noogies and I can respect that. Seeing him interact with characters in Chapter 9 was also one of the more enjoyable aspects of that chapter. I won’t spoil it but it was pretty good.
For the final 2 they’re just characters who’s designs I like a lot and just need to do more research since this game has a lot of characters to try and find information on
~Dagon
~Tomte
And yes, its cuz they’re cute and new. I am shallow… ;u;
Now for the Top 10 favorites, but even then placement can change depending on what LifeWonders plans to do with them down the line.
10. Gunzo: Kicking off this list is the rugby player himself. To start he’s a very dorky athlete. He isn’t the greatest at handling social situations and kind of a goofball when it comes down to it. But those are not bad things, in fact they’re what landed him on the list. His quirkiness is just plain adorable and I do enjoy the antics he and his classmates get into. Not only that but he’s a pretty laid back guy once you get to know him a bit better. It’s his lack of awareness that is his best strength, but worst weakness at times.
9. Kurogane: deep breath ANIKI~!!! Jokes aside Kurogane is the character that when I first saw, I was very disappointed he wasn’t playable. (Then GoGo happened and made me one happy person) and he’s voiced by the same guy who did Broly back in the day so that’s pretty awesome. Kurogane actually likes it a lot when you call him “Big Bro” and I would totally call him that once I found out he did because he’s so wholesome and goodwilled. Plus he does deserve some recognition as someone older since he is the youngest in his Guild. Not only that I can sort of relate to Kurogane’s desire at being an engineer since when I was still attending classes in college that was what I was studying as my major. I can’t quite match the same level of enthusiasm as Kurogane, I do see where his character does come from when tackling certain things, which is how he easily became one of my favorites.
8. Claude: You want a sugar daddy? Claude is probably your guy. So the leader of the Berserkers Guild is a great guy, most of the time. He has his moments where he can get carried away with his own desires rather than doing the correct thing, but honestly there’s something satisfying about a man just taking what he wants. That and well, getting a bit of a wake up call that you can’t just do all of that because you’re bored. His character quest is what really sold me on Claude as a character and something about it felt very real. A lot of it was very vague terminology and confirms Claude’s status as a bottom. Claude is also very intelligent and he’s always trying to make the best move that will benefit the most amount of people, whether or not its for his own interests usually. Also this wouldn’t be your mod if I didn’t mention how good he looks, especially his outfits. Bombom just really knows how to design clothes.
7. Moritaka: Arguably the face of the franchise right after Salomon. Moritaka, to my knowledge, is one of the most popular Housamo characters and to be frank I can see why he would hold that title. He’s just a lovable character with cute art. I really think I show my love for him in my Headcanons so I’ll keep it brief by saying he’s a really enjoyable character.
6. Maria: Our local Lesbian sister will help you find true love, I promise. Maria is another really popular and well-liked character and again I can totally see why. She’s cute as a button and really compassionate towards everyone she meets. And from what I’ve seen from her, Maria is very honest with herself going forward from a certain point which is so satisfying to see. I won’t spoil her entire arc even though her chapters have been out for a while just so you can experience it for yourself. She’s too precious for me to spoil. But her character growth aside, she’s a very compassionate and kind character even to those who aren’t the most kind in return and she even goes out of her way to try and relate to those characters despite the fact they might not make sense.
5. Hephaestus: Here we have my son, please buy him Legos instead of Mega Bloks or he’ll cry. I was a little hesitant with Hephaestus at first to be blunt. He seemed to be quite crude in certain places and really uncaring and a little cliché with his attitude. Plus he’s quite nasty to Talos, often times getting mad at Talos for simply doing what he was made to do. But Chapter 9 really put it into perspective. For spoilers I can’t say what made me turn around from wanting to look away from wanting to just hold him and protect him. All I can say is that he has been put through the wringer and just deserves to be happy.
4. Ashigara: Best bear, Volos stans don’t come for me. I explained it before but Ashigara is a character that tends to radiate “me” energy and I can totally see us being friends in real life. He’s the kind of guy who’d send you memes when your sad but he’d eat all your food, which is why you were sad in the first place. All about give and take.
3. Oniwaka: A bully BF uwu god have mercy but yes. Oniwaka was actually my first ever Housamo summon when I first began to play and on my most recent account (I’ve been on and off with the series until I started this blog and became more of a permanent player) he was my first 5star unit so it weirdly came full circle with him. His alternate skins are an absolute delight to behold and he is no slouch in the writing department after the slog that was Chapter 3. If anything he just got better with each appearance. He was rough around the edges, but seeing his softer sides just warms your heart.
2. Wakan Tanka: Touching down at silver place is my “Housamo Husbando”. Weird I know but let me explain. Wakan Tanka is a character I very much love and cherish, he is a really cute boy who just wants to do good by everyone he meets. He hates treating people especially different which is societal goals. However, he has a tendency to come off as a bit too perfect. While I really like him, he’s also feels more like an ideal than someone who can actually develop and grow. Wakan has basically achieved ascention. As for the top place on this list though…
1. Taurus Mask/Daisuke Ikusaba: Much like how Oniwaka was my first pull, Daisuke was my first Housamo crush. First and foremost his design is what I consider to be very tasteful. It’s both an incredibly attractive outfit, it’s also very appropriate and it isn’t too distracting. Second I love how LifeWonders leans into a character completely and just goes all out with a number of references to their lore or culture. Since Daisuke is a luchador inspired character its really cool to see his Summon Day be May 5th. Thirdly and finally, his writing as a character completely wins me over. He is a shy senior by day, but wrestling prodigy by night. Not only is that badass, but you have the perfect set up and the writer in me squeaks like a little fan girl that I am. Wrestling was never really my thing growing up so while I don’t have any fondness for it in particular, if I had seen Taurus Mask in action you would see me in the crowd shouting for him. Daisuke is just that amazing and why he’s my Number 1 favorite Housamo character.

About me: History, background, CONTEXT!
Where my insecurities lie
I think that we all have our self-doubts and insecurities and it would be hard to go through life without experiencing them in some form. I believe that the majority of our insecurities can be traced back to childhood events, traumas, rejections, shifts in family dynamics etc. There is a reason behind why we are the way we are, we just have to trace the triggers back to their sources and try to use them to motivate, empower and drive us forward.
‘Do not let rejection define you. Let how you cope with rejection after define yourself’ - Jia Jiang from ‘What I learned from 100 days of rejection’ TED Talk
Here are four of my deepest, darkest insecurities. Not in order of pertinence. .
I have never felt bright enough.
I am the youngest of 4. I have three older brothers and we are quite close in age (7 year gap from the eldest). My mothers parents were devastated when they discovered she was a girl as they wanted her to inherit and take over their lavish country estate. Through no fault of her own she never felt wanted in her own family which I think in turn affected our relationship. Many people assumed because I am the youngest and only girl I received some sort of special treatment. I was treated (and definitely dressed) like one of the boys. I wore all of their hand me downs (even pants!), played football and looked a bit of a state half the time!
Tumblr media
Thank God I met my well dressed best friend when I was 10, if not who knows where I’d be now! I have always felt that my mother has subtly resented me and undermined me partially due to the fact I am a girl. I understand why but I so wished (and still do now) to have a closer, more emotional, open relationship with her which I feel I have with my friends and friends mums! We by no means have a terrible relationship and I am grateful for lots of the things she has done but it has never been an open, easy one and I have accepted it for what it is.
I don’t think I grew up in a very intellectually stimulating environment.
My early days before I started school consisted of me being ferried along on school runs, completing chores and going here there and everywhere with my brothers. Don’t get me wrong I am sure my mum did lots of lovely things with me too but when you are the youngest of four you are on the back burner of importance a little. When my best friend had her first child she would map out days for her consisting of sensory baby classes, swimming and massage - I think my schedule was a little different! Then I started school - I don’t remember much of my first few years of school except for having a complete block when it came to maths. I remember sitting next to a boy completing subtraction sums and being so confused (I think he was too). I was copying his work but he kept rubbing it out. Teachers were coming over to help him but not me. I was too shy to ask for help at school and I didn’t feel like anyone had time for me at home. I became a little lost in the classroom and I always felt a step behind my peers. I don’t think my parents supported me with my early reading, maths or spellings which would have been such an important foundation. Perhaps unsurprisingly my job now is to give children a good foundation of knowledge and to support parents so that the children in my care hopefully will feel confident regardless of their ability and never have to feel like I did. Primary school was quite an uphill battle for me and a move at the end of Year 3 from a large sporty school to an all girls small academic school knocked my confidence once again. I got by in most subjects and loved sport but maths was always my nemesis. It just didn’t (and still doesn’t) make sense for me! I hated it. I remember my mum's bright idea for my impending 11+ secondary school entrance exam was to get my short fused middle brother to ‘explain maths’ to me probably in return for a chocolate bar. I remember dreading our sessions after dinners which basically consisted of him getting frustrated and making me feel even more stupid and worried that I would never get into a secondary school of my choice. Most sessions would end in tears and he would storm off vouching to my mother that he never wanted to help me again!
I don’t really understand a lot of the decisions my parents made regarding mine and my brother's education. We grew up next to some of the best schools in the country which I am sure we would have all done well at but instead they sent us to far flung expensive (some not very good) schools and boarding schools. My mum only put me forward for one entrance exam to a secondary school (probably only because my friend was also applying there and her mum suggested she at least sign me up to one school). I felt so unprepared and nervous about the entrance exam. I still really struggled with maths and my only tuition support (if you can call it that) was from my brother who made me feel worse about the subject and myself! My friend who was also sitting the exam had practised some of the papers at her school already and her sister was at the school giving her an extra foot in the door. The English papers went fine but I knew I flopped on the maths. The weeks after the exams waiting for the results were tense. What was I going to do if I didn’t get in? Where would I go to school? I have a vivid, painful memory of the day my mother told me I didn’t get in through a passive aggressive rhetorical reply. It was a Saturday morning and I had a feeling she had received the letter. My room was at the top of the house and she was ironing on the landing. I sat on the top step nervous to broach the subject of my impending doom... ‘So did you hear back from the school? Did I get in?’ I asked sheepishly. She glanced up from her ironing as if I’d asked her what the time was. ‘What do you think?’ she said. ‘I didn’t get in did I?’ I said glumly. ‘No, you didn’t’. Then she just continued on with the ironing. There was no discussion, no chat, no let's actually think carefully about what to do and how we can support you, your future. NOTHING.
To this day I still beat myself up because I didn’t get into that school. I ended up going to a pricey but good secondary school which did not require an entry exam (yippee). It was a small all girls Catholic school and I ended up doing the International Baccalaureate which I only recently discovered I actually did pretty well in compared to A-Levels. I looked at IB grade boundaries compared to A-Level results and it turns out I got the equivalent of three Bs and three Cs in the IB. As someone who has never flourished academically, that’s actually alright!
Tumblr media
Walking towards to the end of my high school days with a close friend.
I have never felt pretty enough.
Growing up with three brothers was nice in the sense that I never had to fight over clothes or make up with sisters. Although I would have loved to have had someone to braid my hair or to steal their clothes (obvs not the other way round!) Up until my last year of primary school I was the biggest, sportiest Tom Boy. I lived in my brothers hand me downs and refused to wear dresses or pink clothes. It wasn’t until I met my best friend that my style changed. She was tall, well dressed, sporty, academic and drop dead gorgeous. I swapped my brothers hand me downs for hers and over time became less dishevelled and a little cooler (haha)! I spent the majority of my free time as a teenager competing in tennis tournaments with her and my other tennis friends. I was rarely at home and was almost adopted by other families. In the holidays I would spend weeks at friends houses and would tag along on family holidays. I related more to these families and felt more accepted by them. I’m just so thankful they were from nice, sporty, intellectual backgrounds so I stayed on the right path and grew up still doing the things I loved. My parents barely knew where I would go from the age of 10 as I started taking buses on my own so I could have easily ‘gotten in with the wrong crowd’ but luckily I chose some good eggs!
ANYWAY back to the point of this and this explaining / understanding this insecurity. My best friend did a lot of modelling growing up and I never really felt pretty compared / next to her. We couldn’t walk down the street without heads turning, her being accosted or people staring left right and centre. She was good at blocking a lot of it out but it was so noticeable to me and although she didn’t like most of it, it often left me feeling like I wasn’t pretty enough because she got all the attention. I remember one time when we were 16 and we went together to the new Abercrombie & Fitch store in London. For some ridiculous reason (I knew this would never happen), I really wanted one of the models to ask if I wanted to work there. Obviously there's a mould you have to fit, you need to be attractive but not necessarily a model. SO I put on a lot of makeup and my nicest outfit at the time, tried to be subtle about it, as if I was going to admit that to her?! We traipsed up to London on the train on a wet and windy day and 5 minutes into browsing some booty shorts (although who really knows because it’s so bloody dark in there!) an attractive tall, dark, ripped model swooped in and approached my best friend, asking if she wanted a job there. I also think he used it as a bit of an excuse to chat her up! She had a sidekick phone at the time and he was asking her a lot about that. I remember we walked out, it was raining, I felt so dejected and idiotic for even assuming there may be the slightest possibility someone would approach me with the same offer. I tried not to let my disappointment show or let it tarnish the rest of the day. That night when I got home I took out my scissors from my pen pot and made a cut at the top of my wrist so deep the scar still remains today 14 years on. That was a one-off self-harm incident but still my way of punishing myself for not being approached, not pretty enough, they don’t want you, why would they, they want her.

Looking like a bit of a hobo next to my best friend at a fashion show circa 2008.

A nicer pic of the two of us. Still my best friend to this day. :)
I was never good enough at tennis and my back held me back!
Growing up tennis was the biggest and best parts of my life and it still is today. It brought me so many friendships which I still continue to have. I remember the first time I went to the tennis club, I must have been about 4. My mum hadn’t played since having my oldest brother and wanted to get back into it. We went up to the club with old school wooden rackets and heavy yellow balls. I just remember trying to bounce the ball on my racket and longing to play properly. I don’t remember officially learning to play, it was so long ago! Tennis quickly became part of my DNA. Despite not being overly academic tennis was my trump card and was what I was known and respected for at school. Teachers and friends showed genuine interest in competitions and would stick newspaper articles up in the halls showing my successes.
Tumblr media
Despite being a good county player I was never a top player which I so aspired to be. My best friend was one step ahead and in every tournament we entered together she seemly always got through to a further round. I never held this against her or let it affect our friendship, I just accepted that if we were in the same tournament the likelihood was she would eventually knock me out (unless we were playing doubles together). Nonetheless this was an extra unavoidable comparison; I already felt she was prettier and more clever than me and this was the cherry on top of the cake.
Tumblr media
When I was 12 my back problem was spotted.
I remember when I was 10 going on 11 about to start at my secondary school I had to go to my doctor for a medical exam. I was sitting in the chair and the doctor was not overly complimentary about me. He said that my school would be shocked by the time I ‘finally reached puberty’ and that I had a terrible posture and needed to sit up straight. . . thanks
I LOVED PE, I could have done PE all day at my school and enjoyed all the sports my school offered. It was international so we got to play volleyball, basketball and baseball which I preferred to British sports like netball and hockey. One day at school I had the most terrible back pain but I didn’t want to admit to it. I just really hoped it would go away by itself… I tentatively got in to my PE kit not telling a soul. Then we started our running warm up on our field which I would usually take delight at being first for but I ran just a few steps and had to stop due to crippling back pain. My PE teacher (who I adored) could see my pain was genuine and sent me off with a friend to the nurse. I heard her on the phone to my mum as I lay forlorn on the bed, ‘I’ve never had Emma in my room before, this really does seem like she’s hurt herself. I would come and collect her and see if you can make an appointment with the doctor’. My mum collected me before the end of the school day and managed to get me an appointment later that day. We drove down to the doctors office. Pretty much immediately she said I had scoliosis, curvature of the spine. I had never heard of it but I immediately saw my mum's face drop. My main concern was whether it was going to affect my tennis / sporting interests / career.
In the years that followed little was done to stop the noticeable curve in my spine dramatically increasing and I could have done more (maybe) to avoid the traumatic surgery I underwent when I was 15. I continued to play tennis regularly, was extremely right hand dominant and carried the worlds heaviest one shoulder school bag equipped with my whole weeks learning every day (not clever). Maybe I should have had a brace in that time and taken greater care, maybe I should have done physio. There are arguments for and against. Some doctors think a curves inevitable and to let it happen and then consider bracing or surgery and some think trying bracing during pivotal growth spurts can reduce the degree of the curve. Anyway, I had check ups every 6 months and after the summer when I turned 15 I went for my check up in September time. I had just had a growth spurt and my curve had gotten dramatically worse. The doctor told me I’d need to try a back brace and referred me to a spinal surgeon in London. The surgeon filled us with a lot of confidence. My curve was just on the cusp of having to have surgery from a safety point of view but he assured us that the surgery was also aesthetic as my shoulders were out of line and the straightening would enable me to grow a few inches. He also assured us that I could play tennis a few months after surgery assuming everything had gone to plan. I opted for surgery which fortunately was successful. I think because I was active and healthy I made a quick recovery and was out of hospital in under a week which is pretty much unheard of. I spent half a term off school, was fueled on codeine and ibuprofen and spent days in bed watching property shows and my friends from school often came over to see how I was doing. All in all I am glad I had the surgery however my back is now by no means perfect. I take great care to ensure I do not over strain it and try to still complete daily physio exercises to avoid twinges and minor discomfort. The surgery was a ‘fix’ and not a ‘cure’. Two metal rods spanning three quarters of the way down my spine were inserted and 18 rods are fused to the vertebrae. I am petrified that something will go wrong, one will pop out of place on a cold day or what if I had a bad bike accident and something shifts? It’s really really scary and I wish I didn’t have it - but I do! Lying in bed you can feel the rods, sitting isn’t comfortable, I’m never really comfortable! People say to me, ‘oh Emma you have such a straight posture’ and I think to myself yes I do but also I have to sit up straight, I can’t slouch. This really does affect me and it’s too scary for me to talk about even with my closest friends. I need to see a specialist in London just to get some piece of mind on it. Anyway I have gone a little off topic but my back did impact my tennis and playing career. I’m not sure I would have made it anyway but it did throw a bit of a spanner in the works…
Tumblr media
A family tragedy was never properly dealt with.
Growing up I had this aunt called Miranda. She was tall, slim, elegant, well spoken and incredibly beautiful. She lived far away in a beautiful country house stooped in generations of our family history. She lived in a house that was on land close to castle grounds (which was pulled down when my mum was five). I always felt a deep connection to where she lived and although I didn’t go many times I felt at home there and protected. I would explore the acres of land that surrounded the house and pick flowers to place by the graves of my deceased ancestors who I felt in some weird way were looking down on me. I didn’t and have never really been able to speak much about my time there growing up or the tragedy that ensued because it was and still fills me with such sadness.
Tumblr media
Where my mum grew up and the church next to the country house my aunt lived in.
I can’t remember when my mum told me she had bone cancer. She had had it a few years before, received treatment but it had returned. This time she didn’t want any treatment she just wanted to hang on for as long as she could. She didn’t want her parents to find out because she didn’t want her father to change the will which was mainly in her daughters favour over my mums. My mum didn’t mind as she didn’t need to inherit that much money anyway and she wanted her niece to be financially secure. She was a heavy smoker and drinker and she usually had one or the other (or both!) in her hand when I was in her company. After her diagnosis, each time we saw her she seemed to have deteriorated physically a little more and it broke my heart as the years went on leading up to her death. I remember at my grandfather's funeral, it was held at the church next to her country house. She was painfully thin yet still managed to walk elegantly across the cobbled path to the entrance clutching her husband's arm.
The next month we were sitting at her funeral in the same church. One of the most devastating, heartbreaking days of my life. The aunt I hadn’t spent overly much time with growing up but whom I adored so deeply. What I’d give to be taken on another tour of her exquisite house, indulge in a family meal or hear a story of her arguing with her husband over a miscommunication over a turning in France. After the funeral and the time that followed her death I could tell that my mother was extremely sad but she didn’t express her emotions openly and instead we quickly got back to normal life. I don’t think she really realised how much the death impacted me growing up, it hung over me and I had an inability to speak about it to anyone. I just couldn’t, it was so sad. My parents didn’t ‘grieve’ or openly display their emotions regarding what had happened. I felt I had to stifle my emotions too. As a coping mechanism, I would cry myself to sleep and then wake up and go to school and get on with my day. When I was 15 I got so drunk, I cried the whole night in my friends arms but I couldn’t tell her why (it was for her). I just kept repeating, ‘I couldn’t hear what she was saying’. A day or so after my grandfather's funeral we stopped at the house to pick something up. She was ill in bed so didn’t greet us at the door. I was in the courtyard and she was banging on the window but I couldn’t hear what she was saying but she kept repeating it over and over. I wish I heard because that was the last thing she said to me. My friends mum called my mum to discuss my drunkenness which was very embarrassing, she was furious with me. Maybe she would have eased off a little had she known why I was so upset…

Entry 334
“What’s up, man-slave?” I questioned upon entering James’ office.  Mila had informed me that he wanted to speak with me, so I made the trek clear up the stairs, wishing again that they just installed an elevator.  The few times I came up here left me tempted to have the stairs lift me, but I didn’t want to spend the time fixing the finish afterward.
Looking around, I said, “This looks incredible.”  The office was as eerie as it was beautiful today, filled with an alien-looking forest.  The soft lighting was produced by luminescent vegetation that contrasted with the nearly black plants.  I knew none of this was real, but the boulders by his desk looked perfectly real, as did the plants.  I could even feel the faint humidity on the breeze that swept through my hair.
“Mila certainly knows how to choose an interesting landscape.” he replied with an amused smile.  Then he gestured to the leaf and said, “Please, take a seat.”
“Is something wrong?” I asked, poking at the boulder-shaped chair.
James nodded, his look becoming severe.  “Yes, Emma.  Doom is upon us.  Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to save this world.  You must cross the inescapable labyrinth, attain the heart of the world, feed it to the nearest creature you find, and then do five jumping jacks while singing Never Gonna Give You Up.”
Plopping into the chair and crossing my arms, I stared him down and said, “Man-slave, you suck.”
He laughed.  “Sorry.  I couldn’t resist.”
“So do I have some incredibly awkward job coming?” I questioned, still feeling nervous.  James rarely summoned people to his office.
“Oh.  No.  I just wanted to give you a warning.” he told me, casually shrugging.
Barely keeping myself in the chair, I gulped nervously.  “Like a formal ‘don’t do it again’ job warning?” I questioned, trying to decide what I could have done wrong.
“No.  This isn’t precisely work related.” he quickly assured me.  Then he took a moment to choose his words before saying, “I wanted to warn you not to get too attached to Dani.”
As unsurprising as that was, I still took the news like a blow to the gut.  Dani was incredible, probably among the ten most incredible girls I’d ever meet.
He quickly said, “I’m not saying you can’t date her if you really want or anything of the sort.  I’m concerned that she might hurt you by accident.”  He hesitated again before proceeding.  “Dani is from a very, very different culture, one that doesn’t practice monogamy… or the idea of personal space, for that matter.  She’ll follow her emotions wherever they go if her good sense doesn’t catch her in time.”
I frowned, almost wishing he just told me a flat no instead of trying to steer me clear.  This company was filled with interesting girls, interesting and unavailable to me.  Mila would probably be listening to me whine again later.  Catching sight of the little fairy sleeping on James’ desk, I tried imagining what sort of dreams the little lady had.  Her life always seemed so carefree in her visions.
“I know this isn’t the easiest thing to hear, but please trust me enough to guard yourself for a while.  Make observations and come to your own conclusions.” he told me, his voice almost having a pleading tone.  He paused briefly, sounding more confident again as he said, “I’ll be taking Dani into the forest soon, and I would very much like for you to join us if you’re willing.”
“Are you nervous?” I asked, trying to push down my unwanted heartache.  I would sort those feelings out later.
“Of course.  I don’t want you to get hurt.” he insisted as he gazed into my eyes.
“You don’t really seem nervous.” I pointed out, unable to sense his emotions past his magic.  James could only be sensed when he allowed it.  “Something’s changed about you.”
“Marriage can have strange effects on people.” he replied evasively with a small smile.
I nodded, knowing that pursuing the subject wouldn’t get me anywhere.  “What do you think will happen with Dani in the forest?”
He steepled his fingers on his desk, his gaze becoming unfocused as he spoke.  “She’s going to be swept up in the emotions of the fey.  You know how overwhelming they can be for people.  Imagine getting a double dose of their emotions.  Dani’s empathic abilities are an inborn magical trait that she cannot shut off.  If she gets too caught up in what the fey are feeling, she might start projecting her own emotions on them as well.  Things could get out of hand very, very quick.”
I realized his confidence had changed.  James had often came across as very confident before—and with good reason—but he spoke with such certainty now that he might as well have been relaying facts instead of supposition.  He almost seemed older when he spoke.
“Can’t you do anything to stop it?” I questioned, realizing he was waiting for me to respond.  “I know you’re way ahead of me in magical knowledge these days.”
He shrugged, saying, “I’m capable of dampening what she feels or even cutting off her sense entirely with spells, but I promised not to do that to her again.  She was quite clear that it’s far worse than being blinded or deafened to her.”
“Really?” I asked, not even having a clue how such magic could be done.  Seriously… what had happened in the past two weeks!?
“She connects with others through their emotions and is accustomed to that just being part of her.” he insisted.
“I mean, the idea makes sense.  I can kinda empathize, given how I feel when communicating as the fey do, but I’ve never wanted that feeling all of the time.” I explained, imagining how horrible feeling someone’s sadness and pain would be.
As if he could see into my faults, he nodded to himself and said, “If you’ll join us, I’d suggest using that ability on Dani while we’re in the forest.  You’ll see.”
“Sure, man-slave.  I’ll join you.  First, I’ve gotta ask how Dani convinced Alma to let her wear that outfit.” I told him, trying not to think too hard about how sexy the girl looked in her clothes.
Her smirked as he said, “That’s modest by her people’s tastes, though I’m sure my parents will be asking me about it and others later.  You can just ask Alma yourself.”
“Will your wifey be joining us?” I asked, imagining Alma’s scowl at the word “wifey”.
Laughing, James pointed to the doorway, saying, “Really, just ask.”
I jumped and turned around, expecting the doorway to be on fire.  Oddly, Alma just looked amused, barely glancing at me before shaking her head as she stared at her husband.  Since returning, she hadn’t shown any irritation at all.  What had happened on their honeymoon!?
As James approached her, Alma rolled her eyes and told him “James, you’re terrible.  Let’s be off.  Dani is already out back.”
He shrugged, following along as she led the way.  Even on their wedding day, James and Alma had been slightly stiff with any public displays of affection.  Now they seemed totally, miraculously relaxed with one another.  Even with Dani, they were relaxed and affectionate, despite her being nearly Alma’s age!  I decided that I’d be stealing some of Marco’s booze and exchanging theories with Jarod this week.  His wives might even join us under these circumstances.
When we arrived out back, having taken the shortcut through my wing, we found Cosette and Dani competing with tricks on the zoomies.  I did my best not to look longingly at Dani, but Cosette was no good either.  If she ever showed romantic interests at all, I would have gladly tried dating the vampire.  I’d probably even consider letting her turn me…
“You’re not trying to lure my daughter away for a bite, are you?” teased James after watching them a little while.
“What’s wrong with a bite in the moonlight?” questioned Cosette, elongating her fangs to emphasize the idea.
“I would very much appreciate having Dani intact when she first meets the rest of the fey.” stated Alma, casually leaning against her husband.
“But I can have a bite afterward?” teased Cosette, flipping off her zoomie and catching it when it came down near her hand.
“Where’s my little friend?” asked Dani over Cosette.  She flew down quickly, did a full loop, and then cartwheeled onto the ground.
“She’ll be along soon, I’m sure.  Are you joining us, Cosette?” offered James.
“Of course.  I’m intrigued.” she told him, smiling playfully.
When James started leading the way to the forest, the two girls hopped back onto the zoomies, playfully flying circles around the rest of us as they continued to show off their acrobatic skills.
“Let’s leave the zoomies out here.” ordered James just outside of the forest.
Dani sighed dramatically before saying, “Yes, Daddy.”  She really sounded like a daughter grudgingly conceding to her dad’s whim.
“What happened with Kayla?” questioned Alma.
“Jemal came to get her.  She apparently hadn’t finished her homework today.” replied Dani with a frown.  “He’s really umm…” she started, struggling to find the right word as she gestured with her hands.
 “Fidgety?” suggested Alma.
“Yes!  Fidgety.  He seemed to like me though.” she replied, stepping off her zoomie and immediately hugging me.
For a moment, I was ecstatic, but then I noticed James watching.  With James going out of his way to warn me not to get attached, I had to at least try to listen.  Cosette had stepped around to my other side and draped her arm over my shoulder.  These girls really didn’t understand what they did to my poor heart, but I hugged them both.
“Well, here we go.” stated James, stepping past the invisible barrier.
The moment the rest of us stepped through, Dani gasped, and I could easily understand why.  Most of the world had plenty of energy to do spells, taking countless spells to drain an area of magic.  The forest had an abundance of energy constantly moving like a vortex.  The sight was beautiful, and somewhat frightening with knowledge of how the wrong alignment could become a spell.
Taking James’ advice, I opened up my mind, focusing on Dani.  I felt her excitement and knew she impulsively wanted to kiss me as I mentally pointed out one of the fey nearby.
“Emma is that you!?” exclaimed Dani, her large amethyst eyes staring into my own.
I nodded, unable to resist a smile as Dani hugged me again.
Her grin was even larger when she leaned back to say, “That’s so cool!  I knew Mom could do it, but I didn’t realize you could too!”
She caught sight of more fey as their minds started reaching out to our own.  I could feel her boundless joy at seeing them.  I caught glimpses of her desires as she looked at them.  Hugging and kissing were to her as a nod of greeting or casual wave were to strangers acknowledging one another.  The hunger, the lust in her was startling for me.  Some fey were incredibly beautiful.  Others were cute in a bizarre way.  I never felt that, not toward most of them.
“What’s wrong?” questioned Dani, her gaze suddenly turning on me as she felt my uncertainty.
“Nothing.” I lied.  “I just need a moment.  Wasn’t quite ready for all of them.” I replied with a little honesty.  Being ready for so many minds to touch mine still wasn’t easy.
James probably knew I lied, but he could probably guess why.  I was already understanding his warning.  Dani very obviously lacked that emotional barrier people kept between themselves and strangers.  With so many fey around us, she had forgotten about me already, moving to dance and play with our forest friends.  Her excitement from earlier paled compared to the ever-growing emotional torrent within her as she played.  I had to cut off the connection, not wanting to feel something so overwhelming for long.
Suddenly, she was gone.  The fey looked as confused as I felt, but I followed when Cosette headed back out of the forest.  James and Alma had already left, and I didn’t want to be alone with the fey when they were so worked up.
“That was interesting.” commented Cosette when we were back past the forest’s barrier.  “I never expected to see anyone receive half as much attention from them as you, James.”
“Dani has a way with people.” he replied simply.
 “Magical way?” suggested Cosette.
“More chemical, though I suspect her magic plays a part.” explained Alma, casually hugging her daughter who had miraculously calmed down already.
 “Chemical?” I asked in surprise.
“Potent pheromones.” stated James.  “She exudes a large variety.”
When did they have so much time to learn something like that?
Dani stuck her tongue out at James, and then complained “I hate that explanation.  Can’t I just be likable?”
James laughed, telling her “Sorry, but many here have inquiring minds.”
Cosette nodded in agreement, and I’d wager she caught five times as much in our brief trip than I had.
“Let’s go see if Jarod’s in his lab.” suggested James.  “We need to get Dani’s enhancement suit started, and my wife will surely want to help debate the style.”
I smirked at the comment, imagining how that would go if Dani’s current outfit was considered tame by her standards.  As I walked and watched Dani happily show off her skills on the zoomie, I promised myself that I’d learn to steel my heart against her influence.  I planned to keep observing her, knowing that I could be jumping the gun, but I trusted James too much to hold onto more than a little doubt.
