Hello! Would you ever consider bringing back different post types, especially audio? I appreciate that audio posts now display the artist, song title, and album name, but unfortunately newer audio posts donât play in Tumblr-based music players like egoisticalgoat.de or robinpx.github.io/boombox because theyâre read as text posts. Thank you for reading!
Answer:Â Hey there, @stepintomusic!
Sadly, the answer here is no. Weâve been moving away from legacy post types and towards the Neue Post Formatâa format that allows multiple types of media in the same postâfor many years. The new features available in NPF basically guarantee that we wonât ever switch back to the legacy format.
(If youâre interested in peeking behind the scenes here, there are a few posts about NPF over at @engineering.)
Now, to get into the meat of the issue. While it would be amazing if we could support every third-party tool forever, the reality is that we canât. Weâre a surprisingly small team to begin with, and even if we werenât, that support would come at a cost.
To start, thereâs the development tax. Now, would it have been cool to ensure all third-party tools (and all custom themes) worked 100% perfectly with posts stored as NPF before releasing NPF to the public? Yeah, it would have been⊠for third-party tools and custom themes. For us, it would have meant delaying NPF (and all the features it brings with it) for months, possibly years. Imagine a 2023 where Tumblr still doesnât have polls: thatâs the alternate future weâre talking about here.
And then, thereâs our maintenance tax. The engine that powers Tumblr themes is already incredibly complicatedâcomplicated to the point that weâre already finding it difficult to maintain and add things like, as you mentioned, NPF audio metadata. If, every time we found some third-party tool that doesnât play nice with the latest changes, we tried to make an affordance for it⊠the engine would just become even more complex. And it would do so quickly, and complex to the point of being impossible to keep up with as a maintainer.
Thereâs a great article here by a former Mozilla developer about the pitfalls of prioritizing a third-party ecosystem over your own software. Did you know that Firefox was essentially a single-threaded application until 2018? This meant it would still visually lock up when saving files to disk, or collecting crash data. Chrome launched in 2008 and was multiprocess from the start. But it took Firefox ten years to catch up because supporting all existing third-party add-ons was seen as necessary. (Spoiler alert: in the end, they had to drop support for those add-ons anyway.)
My own recommendation around third-party software like this is: get in contact with its developer! If something in their software isnât working, thereâs nobody more qualified to update it. (Or, if theyâve abandoned the project but had made it open-source, maybe someone else could step up to maintain it. Maybe you! You never know until you try.)
I talked about the maintenance tax from the first-party side, but letâs talk about it from the third-party side, too. As a theme author and add-on developer myself, I have long accepted that the cost of maintaining these things can never be zero. When your software interacts with an online service, and that online service is being actively maintained, your software also needs to be maintained.
I hope all this has been enlightening! Thanks for your question, and please, have a great day.
âApril

đđđđđđđđđ + YUKI'S SITE ! a single muse doc tailored for in-depth        character exploration
ââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ i promised i would give a longer doc & i have delivered ! this doc is truly one of my favorites because its a very obvious yuki theme. i absolutely adore her in jjk & i felt the need to be more original and make a doc based off her rather than the more popular jjk counterparts. âŠÂ đĄđ±đ€đ đȘđđąđȘđĄ ă» this doc utilizes a custom sizing plugin, this will be linked down below for everyone to make use of. ( the measurements are 9 x 14 ) ă» no comments; however, a lot of these are drawings, but i trust that you guys know how to work them considering the large amount of drawings i use on my other docs ! ă» as always, the colors for the images have been edited in pics art, but everything can be made to look the way you want it to. âŠÂ đŁđđšđđđĄ
ă» the plugin is linked above and i highly recommend that you guys add it to your browser if you wish to change the color of this doc & others on pc instead of mobile. the plugin is compatible with safari, but I believe you have to install it on google chrome first as it works just fine for me on safari. âŠÂ đ đ±đł đđ„đđđđ§đŠ ă» the first page is inspired by @katzenx on D.A & all main images of yuki n co. are credited to gege akutami. i do not own the character nor the art, the first image under catalog is by æłäșæéąæ°žäč

PSA: Free Software
Reading this may really save your time, privacy, and money! Reblog or share to spread awareness!
Folks often use software thatâs expensive and sometimes even inferior because they donât know there are alternatives. So to those unfamiliar: basically, free and open-source (FOSS) or "libre" software is free to use and anyone can access the original code to make their own version or work on fixing problems.
That does not mean anyone can randomly add a virus and give it to everyoneâany respectable libre project has checks in place to make sure changes to the official version are good! Libre software is typically developed by communities who really care about the quality of the software as a goal in itself.
There are libre alternatives to many well-known programs that do everything an average user needs (find out more under the cut!) for free with no DRM, license keys, or subscriptions.
Using libre software when possible is an easy way to fight against and free yourself from corporate greed while actually being more convenient in many cases! If you need an app to do something, perhaps try searching online for things like:
foss [whatever it is]
libre [whatever it is]
open source [whatever it is]
Feel free to recommend more libre software in the tags, replies, comments, or whatever you freaks like to do!
Some Libre Software I Personally EnjoyâŠ
LibreOffice
LibreOffice is an office suite, much like Microsoft Office. It includes equivalents for apps like Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, which can view and edit files created for those apps.
I can't say I've used it much myself yet. I do not personally like using office software except when I have to for school.
OpenShot
OpenShot Video Editor is, as the name suggests, a video editing program. It has industry-standard features like splicing, layering, transitions, and greenscreen.
I've only made one video with it so far, but I'm already very happy with it. I had already paid for a video editor (Cyberlink PowerDirector Pro), but I needed to reinstall it and I didn't remember how. Out of desperation, I searched up "FOSS video editor" and I'm so glad I did. There's no launcher, there's no promotion of other apps and asset packsâit's just a video editor with a normal installer.
GIMP
GNU Image Manipulation Program is an image editor, much like Photoshop. Originally created for Linux but also available for Windows and MacOS, it provides plenty of functionality for editing images. It is a bit unintuitive to learn at first, though.
I've used it to create and modify images for years, including logos, really bad traceover art, and Minecraft textures. It doesn't have certain advanced tech like AI paint-in, but it has served my purposes well and it might just work for yours!
(Be sure to go to Windows > Dockable Dialogs > Colors. I have no idea why that's not enabled by default.)
Audacity
Audacity is an audio editing program. It can record, load, splice, and layer audio files and apply effects to them.
Audacity is another program I've used for a long time. It is not designed to compose music, but it is great for podcasts, simple edits, and loading legacy MS Paint to hear cool noises.
7-Zip
7-Zip is a file manager and archive tool. It supports many archive types including ZIP, RAR, TAR, and its own format, 7Z. It can view and modify the contents of archives, encrypt and decrypt archives, and all that good stuff.
Personally, I use 7-Zip to look inside JAR files for Minecraft reasons. I must admit that its UI is ugly.
Firefox
Firefox is an internet browser, much like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Safari. While browsers are free, many of them include tracking or other anti-consumer practices. For example, Google plans to release an update to Chromium (the base that most browsers are built from these days) that makes ad blockers less effective by removing the APIs they currently rely on.
Aside from fighting monopolies, benefits include: support for animated themes (the one in the picture is Purple Night Theme), good ad blockers forever, an (albeit hidden) compact UI option (available on about:config), and a cute fox icon.
uBlock Origin
As far as I know, uBlock Origin is one of the best ad blockers there is.
I was on a sketchy website with my brother, and he was using Opera GX's ad blocker. Much of the time when he clicked on anything, it would take us to a random sponsored page. I suggested that he try uBlock Origin, and with uBlock Origin, that didn't happen anymore.
Linux
Linux is a kernel, but the term is often used to refer to operating systems (much like Windows or MacOS) built on it. There are many different Linux-based operating systems (or "distros") to choose from, but apps made for Linux usually work on most popular distros. You can also use many normally Windows-only apps on Linux through compatibility layers like WINE.
I don't have all four of these, so the images are from Wikipedia. I tried to show a variety of Linux distros made for different kinds of users.
If you want to replace your operating system, I recommend being very careful because you can end up breaking things. Many computer manufacturers don't care about supporting Linux, meaning that things may not work (Nvidia graphic cards notoriously have issues on Linux, for example).
Personally, I tried installing Pop!_OS on a laptop, and the sound output mysteriously doesn't work. I may try switching to Arch Linux, since it is extremely customizable and I might be able to experiment until I find a configuration where the audio works.
Many Linux distros offer "Live USB" functionality, which works as both a demo and an installer. You should thoroughly test your distro on a Live USB session before you actually install it to be absolutely sure that everything works. Even if it seems fine, you should probably look into dual-booting with your existing operating system, just in case you need it for some reason.
Happy computering!

HANK PYM COSTUME RATINGS
At long last, here are my thoughts on the many looks and identities of Marvelâs own Hank Pym!!! Being a fan of this guy is a real rollercoaster, but his costumes are always so great and interesting, ive wanted to talk about them for ages!!! As some of his looks kinda blend together Ive tried to stick with the bare essentials (barring ones i especially like) but you can generally assume that i rate most of the suits of a given identity the same unless i specifically state otherwise. So here we go!!!!!
Ant-Man 10/10
What can i say? You canât make an ant themed character much cooler than this. The irresistible 60s scifi charm of his big chrome helmet, the red, black, and blue color scheme with patterns that say âi am a super scientistâ but gloves that say âim attemptint to look visually interesting.ïżœïżœïżœ Naturally Hank forgets heâs wearing some of the coolest headgear in comics. Ant-Man has had some good looks and updates but the charm of this one is pretty undeniable.
Giant Man 8/10
I think we can all agree that Giant Man kinda sucks, but damn if he didnt look cool! I guess he kept the antennae to keep some Ant-Man functionality, but you rarely see him using it. Thatâs fine though, it gives him a cool and distinct silhouette. Itâs strange, if this were a new look for him as Ant Man, id call it a more considerable downgrade, yet Hank becoming Giant Man is a downgrade in just about every sense of the word. And even so, i LOVE Giant Man! Itâs a conundrum!
Giant Man Redux: 6/10
I think they were trying to recapture the scifi tech charm of Ant-Man with this one, and it does kinda work! I think my main issue with this one is that it doesnt stick around long enough to really win me over. There are far more minor and insignificant variations of Hankâs suits that stick around way longer than this one. And id say this suitâs pretty damn significant, he left the Avengers for the the first time wearing this shit! I wish theyâd played around with it some more.
Goliath: 8/10
Goliath is extremely solid. I have to wonder if Marvel was conscious of Giant Man being a loser that they felt the need to rebrand him like this, thereâs little significant changeover from his previous identity other than color scheme and name besides him being stuck at 10 ft tall for a bit. I LOVE the addition of the goggles btw, one of my earliest exposures to that design trope i love so much.
The weird thing with Goliath is that they make him look more and more like Giant Man while refusing to change his name. Like again i know the guy got his ass best plenty of times but when you add antennae and red to his costumeâŠ.thatâs just Giant Man! But whatever the case, i give Goliath and all of his iterations a solid thumbs up.
Yellowjacket: 10/10
The PINNACLE as far as im concerned. What if you took Ant-Man and refined his charming but clunky scifi elements into something sleek, aerodynamic, and downright badass, while still having bright colors? You get Yellowjacket! I canât stress how much i loved this suit as a kid. Do you know how rare it is to have a primarily yellow superhero who looks cool? Itâs mostly just Wolverine, and he didnât even exist at this point! I also like how it sorta resembles Waspâs original outfit, though you probably wouldnât get a chance to compare given Janâs ever shifting wardrobe. Itâs really a shame how maligned the Yellowjacket identity is because id love to see this design again, but its lasting association with the worst shit ever done with Hank pretty much made sure thatâll never happen.
West Coast Avengers: -/10
Itâs funny that what is arguably the height of Hankâs superhero career comes from when heâs vehemently not a superhero anymore. Thus, in terms of costumesâŠwell this isnt a costume! But for what it is, itâs great. A nice practical super science getup. But i have trouble rating it on the same scale as the rest. Just know that I love it!
90s Hank: 5/10
I was ready to rip this thing a new one, but tbh it isnt bad. The only thing that keeps it from being truly good is the stupid pouches, but i cant outright call it bad when itâs basically a worse version of Atlas from Thunderboltsâ costume without them. Itâs passable.
Giant Man???: 10/10
Yeah, I know. Confusing, isnt it? Well listen, regardless of names and costumes and what have you, this is by far my favorite variation on the original Goliath look. The red goggles just do it for me! I love primary color schemes and i prefer a touch of red to a touch of yellow, yknow?
Goliath??????: 8/10
So NOW he can be Goliath. That makes perfect sense. Yeesh. This suit is cool though i like it. Itâs based on a Goliath suit Jan designed for Hank, but by then heâd had become Yellowjacket, so Hawkeye became Goliath for a while instead. Itâs a nice callback, and while I donât actually care for that Goliath look, thereâs no way a redesign by George Perez at the height of his career and abilities is gonna be anything less than great.
Wasp: 7/10
Was Mighty Avengers good? I read a couple of issues and remembered enjoying it, but that was when i hated every other Avengers book do idk if that means it was actually good, yknow? Anyway while losing Jan as the Wasp and gaining Hank is about as big a net loss as i can think of, this is NOT a bad look. There are only a few gripes i feel: I get what they were going for with the design on his chest but it makes him look like heâs The Stickbug and not The Wasp. Secondly, i think the goggles are kinda lame compared to some of his other eye/headwear heâs sported throughout the years. Thatâs about it! Not bad for the worst Wasp in the main continuity!

Did you go to the Chrome theme editor to check for any new theme backgrounds that top the Ride the Wave by Janelle Cummins from the Black Artists bundle (you did not), only to find out that Chrome decimated its theme color selection and there's no way to revert back to your original custom theme colors? Because I did.
Read more for how to manually fix your mistake by making your own theme. Requires little to no coding experience
Step 1: Making your theme
Start off by creating a folder wherever you want to save your theme for later use and name it something that makes sense for you.
In this folder will be the contents of your theme. Your theme will be made up of the following:
A JSON files called "manifest.json"
An optional folder for any images, called "images"
The manifest JSON will contain all of the information on colors, images, properties, etc. that will make up your theme.
If you would like a more interactive way to start building this, including a color picker, use the following tool https://chrometheme.studio/, and download the resulting ZIP. Unzipping this will provide you a folder containing the JSON manifest with the settings you configured online.
The problem I immediately ran into was: I got into this situation because I changed my color theme and can't change it back. How do I know what colors to use? So here's
How I guesstimated what colors I previously had
I took a full screen screenshot of my current fucked up Chrome theme with the closest color set I could possibly get to my original color theme using their new shitty hue slider.
I then plopped that image into my favorite non-MSPaint image editor with the ability to adjust Contrast and Saturation, and adjusted those on the image until I was satisfied that it looked as close as possible to my original theme colors.
Here's a before and after on mine. Appreciate the difference.
I now have a way to colorpick and get all of the RGB/HEX codes for the colors I want my theme to be.
You'll also notice that the online theme editor doesn't have anything for the background image in the new tab page. So here's
How to add a background image on your new tab page
For starters, create a folder called "images" on the same level as the manifest JSON file inside the folder of the ZIP you downloaded from the online theme maker. Then add the JPG or PNG images you want to use for your theme inside the "images" folder that you made.
After that, you will need to do some additional fine tuning to the manifest JSON file. This is where some minor programming knowledge will help, but isn't required.
You might need a special program to open and edit the JSON. Try Notepad++ for convenience, or use this online editor https://jsoneditoronline.org/.
The specifications for what information can be included in this are here. This was surprisingly the hardest part of this process because it somehow took 20 years to find the up to date documentation. Like literally you cannot google Chrome Theme Manifest or anything of the like to get to this page. I had to dig.
You'll want to take note of the "images" and "properties" sections.
Let's start with the images section. Simply include the local path of the image you want to use, or more specifically, the name of the image file as it shows in the "images" folder, prepended with "images/", to the "theme_ntp_background" field of the manifest JSON.
Example:
"images": { Â Â Â Â Â Â "theme_ntp_background": "images/ride_the_wave.png" },
Then, depending on if you want the image to repeat or not, and where to position the image on the page, you will need to use the properties section.
The field "ntp_background_alignment" can be a vertical position of "top", "bottom", or "center", with an optional horizontal position "left" or "right" appended with a dash, such as "bottom-right".
The field "ntp_background_repeat" can either be "repeat" or "no-repeat" depending on if you want your image to tile or not.
Example:
"properties": { Â Â Â Â Â Â "ntp_background_alignment": "center", Â Â Â Â Â Â "ntp_background_repeat": "no-repeat" }
If you don't tile your image, you may notice a problem, that your image does not fill the window entirely. There is unfortunately no option in the manifest to have the image exactly fill the window based on size, so you will need to manually size the image you include in the images folder to fit the full resolution of your Chrome window.
Here's what the manifest for my new theme looks like:
{ Â Â "manifest_version": 3, Â Â "name": "Ride the Way Pre Chrome Refresh 2023", Â Â "description": "This theme was modified from a generated theme from Chrome Theme Studio. Create your own custom Chrome Theme for free at chrometheme.studio.", Â Â "version": "1.0", Â Â "author": "TheBrows", Â Â "theme": { Â Â Â Â "colors": { Â Â Â Â Â Â "frame": [9, 2, 35], Â Â Â Â Â Â "frame_inactive": [8, 6, 15], Â Â Â Â Â Â "frame_incognito": [8, 6, 15], Â Â Â Â Â Â "frame_inactive_incognito": [8, 6, 15], Â Â Â Â Â Â "background_tab": [9, 2, 35], Â Â Â Â Â Â "background_tab_inactive": [8, 6, 15], Â Â Â Â Â Â "background_tab_incognito": [8, 6, 15], Â Â Â Â Â Â "background_tab_incognito_inactive": [8, 6, 15], Â Â Â Â Â Â "bookmark_text": [225, 198, 255], Â Â Â Â Â Â "tab_background_text": [225, 198, 255], Â Â Â Â Â Â "tab_background_text_inactive": [167, 146, 188], Â Â Â Â Â Â "tab_background_text_incognito": [167, 146, 188], Â Â Â Â Â Â "tab_background_text_incognito_inactive": [167, 146, 188], Â Â Â Â Â Â "tab_text": [225, 198, 255], Â Â Â Â Â Â "toolbar": [44, 35, 77], Â Â Â Â Â Â "toolbar_button_icon": [225, 198, 255], Â Â Â Â Â Â "omnibox_text": [255, 255, 255], Â Â Â Â Â Â "omnibox_background": [9, 2, 35] Â Â Â Â }, Â Â Â Â "images": { Â Â Â Â Â Â "theme_ntp_background": "images/ride_the_wave.png" Â Â Â Â }, Â Â Â Â "properties": { Â Â Â Â Â Â "ntp_background_alignment": "center", Â Â Â Â Â Â "ntp_background_repeat": "no-repeat" Â Â Â Â } Â Â } }
Some additional fine-tuning
If you didn't notice, there's some additional fields in the manifest above that aren't in the one from the online editor.
In order for the inactive window to look weird, you will want to add the fields for the "frame" color for inactive/incognito windows. They follow the same naming convention as the other fields with inactive/incognito color options.
Step 2: Add the fixed theme to Chrome
To now test your completed theme, you will need to go to the extensions page at "chrome://extensions/" and turn on Developer Mode using the toggle on the top right of the page. This will allow you to upload the theme to your Chrome with minimum complexity.
You can now upload your theme by clicking the "Load unpacked" button on the top left of the page, which will allow you to select the folder containing your manifest JSON file and (optional) images folder, and upload it as your theme.
This is the easiest way to upload and incrementally test the configurations of your custom theme.
Once you have your theme exactly to your liking, you can optionally save it as a Chrome extension file by clicking the "Pack extension" button on the top left of the Extensions page, and again select the folder containing your manifest JSON and (optional) images folder.
This will create a CRX (Chrome Extension) file for you, which you can drag and drop onto the Extensions page to automatically add your theme (as long as you have Developer Mode enabled).
Hope this helps someone.
#paige talks#if you want to know how i spent my sunday night#chromium#chrome themes#this is also practically all for naught for me since I'm gonna have to move to firefox anyways once they perform the manifest3 purge#i seriously dont know why it was so hard to find the docs for the chromium theme manifest#spent a good 30 minutes trying to find that#for some reason everyone was linking to the old broken links and nothing redirected

Readable version by me
Jan.21st 1940
12 rue du Piolet Cagnes s/m A.M.
Dear Mrs. Bradley
thank you very much for your letter. I feel very much relieved that something has been done to the story and that you think it might sell. Of course, the translaters in new York are few. I have quite some experiences with them. Maida Darnton, perhaps is the best, but your agent will know about that.
As for MĂ€nner kennen heim, it was sent off to Dorothy Thompson before I met you, and probably went to Carl Brandt (?) who up to now sold my stories. As I haven't heard from either of them, I will write today and tell them, that I asked you to look after my stories. Of course I ment to motivate this change by saying that the material had to be translated in Paris, as no German scripts can be sent by mail . . .
I do hope your agent will find somebody who can do translation. I read the story here to two american girls who loved it and didn't think it's too long, but a dutchman and a viennice girl thought it too long, and I had feeling it bored them. As a matter of fact I did not read well, I was tired and besides had an "Ă©pine" in my eye. A cactus that I wanted to save from cold shot it right into my Eye and I had to go to Nice to had it out, my Eye got bad and I had to run about with a bandaged Eye, feeling as good as blind . . I know that the American public likes descriptions and going into things explicitely.
Well, let's hope. A girlfriend of mine here started to translate "Dorothy becomes Italian", but only for her own pleasure. I will let you have what she has done about it. If you think it good, she can go on, but its very likely its no good, and she will not mind at all, to let somebody else do the job. I cannot juge, of course.
I will now let you have the second story wwhich might sell too but the theme is not so very much in the line of the States. as a work it is, from the literary standpoint of view, better, I think. I wrote to Ernestime, but had no reply . . unfortunately. ? (1 word)
Now I will finish the third story, which is more of an interpretational human interest . .
Thank you, and pardon me for the nervous letter, the other day.
Regards to Mrs. de Scriabine
and many thanks from yours
very sincerely
Christa Winsloe (with signature)
Notes.
Maida Darnton. The proof is on Google that it's her name.
As it is, MĂ€nner kennen heim has no needed results on Google, but MĂ€nner kennen heim Christa Winsloe has this
http://www.lespress.de/0398/texte398/CW.html
(I used Google Chrome site translation to read the article.)
Needed piece. "Die Novelle MĂ€nner kehren heim handelt von einem MĂ€dchen, das von heimkehrenden Soldaten vergewaltigt wird." Warum? What is the reason behind this horror/tragedy? it's not autobiography of some sort, so why?
Ă©pine in relation to a cactus is a thorn. (Part of Wikipedia article on Google, "Glochids or glochidia (singular "glochidium") are hair-like spines or short prickles, generally barbed, found on the areoles of cacti . . .)
Nice is supposedly nurse as she's the one who could help.

For the meet-ugly prompts: #13, Indruck, SFW ? đïžđïž
Here you go!
13: we make contact before trying to steal the last seat on the subway/bus/train and I end up in your lap and fuck you, Iâm going to stay here because Iâve had a really long day and this seat was mine
The Phoenix Starport is a labyrinth, while technically made of chrome and touch-screens, is really made of lines.
Duck stands in line to show his ticket, to deposit his bags, to go through three separate security check-points and, when he gets to the section for the shuttle to take him to the Starliner, a fourth one because when your clients are high paying, you donât want them getting blown to pieces.
He isnât high-paying, he isnât a seasoned space traveler, and he isnât going to spend one second more on his feet than he has to. Itâs been two solid hours of that just to get to this point. Unfortunately, every other passenger shares this sentiment. When the shuttle door opens a mass of lifeforms pile in, hunting for seats. Duck spots one, turns to sit, and finds itâs much fuzzier than it looked.
âExcuse me.â The creature whose laps heâs in reminds him of the pictures of Mothman scattered around his home state, âbut this seat is taken.â
âYeah, by me, because I saw it first.â
A click from inside the mothmans chest, âYou are wrong. I saw it first, and did not foresee anyone being rude enough to use me in its place.â
Every other seat is filled, and itâs a fifteen minute ride to the Starliner. Duck crosses his arms, âyou donât wanna be a seat, you better get up.â
That earns him an annoyed chirr, âNot a chance.â
The shuttle ride is smooth, but his seat keeps prodding him with a clawed finger whenever he puts his weight on it. When they arrive, the two of them stand one after the other. The mothman shakes out his feathers, tosses a glare over his shoulder, and steps through the doors.
Unsurprisingly, the Sylvain Dream makes opulence seem subdued. There are rare flowers studding the fountain by the concierge desk, art from across the universe on the walls, and a sound dampening, shimmering carpet lining the hall to his room. Heâs looking forward to some alone time; while all the suites at this level are technically two person, theyâre so expensive that most travelers get their own rooms.
He keys open the door and comes face to chest with the same fucking alien from the shuttle.
âAh. So we are in this timeline. Lovely.â The mothman says dryly, passing him to greet the bellhop who just finished scurrying up the stairs, âI see you have a message from minister Woodbridge. Kindly have someone reply and tell him that if itâs an emergency, they may contact me directly, but if the matter is anything else, they are to leave me in peace during my journey.â
âYes, Seer Cold.â
âThank you.â the seer drops a coin into his hand and brushes past Duck without another word.
Duck finally makes it past the entryway and gasps; when the people paying for his journey asked if heâd prefer forest, city, beach, or desert, he assumed it was some sort of vague theme. Instead, the carpet is lush, soft grass, there are flowers everywhere, and the furniture is all made to be woodsy and rustic. The bath and shower are like a mini water-fall and pool, his bed housed in a mock cabin.
âThis is amazing.â
âIf you are here purely for a leisure trip.â His suite-mate crosses both sets of arms, âsome of us are being transported back to work.â
âNow look, this is a work trip for me too. You gotta admit this is pretty swank.â
âAnd an attempt to soften the blow.â Mothman mutters.
Duck rolls his eyes, decides this is not his problem to deal with, and goes to unpack for the month-long journey ahead.
-----------------------------------------------------
For the first two days he and Indrid--which is what the aloof, perpetually touchy Sylph likes to be called--do their best to ignore each other. Theyâre stuck on the same dining schedule, which means Duck accidentally insults the alien by giggling when he sees him lick his dessert up with an absurdly long tongue. He makes it up to the next night by saving the pineapple soda delivered in their lunch basket for the Sylph.
On day three, heâs reading by the holo-fire pit when a white badge with blue writing dangles before him.
âWould you like to accompany me to the spa?â
âUhâŠ.â
âSince I foresee you asking no, we do not have to spend the entire time together.â
âI, uh, I was gonna say sure, but was wonderinâ why you offered it to me.â
âOh.â His antenna flick in a new way, âI, ah, they gave me two. I have no one else to go with and it seemed silly to let it go to waste.â
âI gotta wear anything special?â
âSince humans require clothes in all but a few scenarios, I suggest wearing your robe.â
The spa is just as elaborate as the rest of the ship, with cushy chairs and complimentary booze. The secretary hands them each a menu of treatments bigger than any Duckâs held at a restaurant.
âSugar scrubâŠ.talon waxâŠ.rock massage. Do they mean hot rocks?â
âNo, that treatment helps those with scales shed.â
âHuh.â Duck pokes his tongue in his cheek, âwish they said which of these were safe for, uh, squishy human bodies.â
Indrid reaches out a claw, tapping several on the list, âThis ful massage would be good; youâre muscular, it will be nice to have those muscles tended to.â
âOh, uh, thanks. Have been workin out more, nice to have someone else notice.â
The Sylph smiles, âyou may also like the hair luxury add-on; Iâve always thought humans with salt and pepper hair should show it off.â
Before Duck can ask how Indrid developed that opinion or learned that slang, theyâre ushered off into separate rooms. Heâs scrubbed and rubbed until his body surrenders the last of itâs stress, the oils they rub on his skin and into his hair smelling pleasantly of pine and cedar. His session ends with one of the staff leading him to a small room covered in deep green marble, where he can rinse and dry off in his own time.
Indrid is in the same room, reclining in a chair with a sun lamp on his wings. Theyâve been groomed, the feather straighter and smoother than this morning. Duck takes his first real look at them, notices how the black is iridescent and that there are two bands of deep grey on the inside close to Indridâs torso.
Heâs really quite stunning.
âI feelâ Indrid murmurs, âas if we got off to a bad start.â
âYou think?â Duck aims for a genial tone.
Indrid cocks his head, âYes. That is why I said it. I, ah, I ought to apologize for my temperament over the last few days. I am so very fond of earth, of humans, and Iâd hoped to be able to work there indefinitely. But Sylvain is in crisis, and so they need me near. Never mind that we have the capability to transmit messages quickly between planets.â
âWhatâs the crisis?â
âOur plants are dying or failing to produce the resources we need. The belief is that-â
â-itâs a leftover contamination or mutation from the earth plants that crossed through the gate before it was destroyed.â
Indrid blinks, then grins, âit is novel to be the one having their sentences finished. Yes, Duck Newton; the gate has been gone for over two hundred years, but both our worlds will feel itâs effects for many more years.â His antenna perk up, âyouâre the one theyâre bringing on to consult.â
âYep. Thatâs why they gave me such a sweet deal on the trip; they know itâs gonna be fuckin exhaustin work. Even with all the other perks theyâre offerin, I know a lot of folks didnât wanna apply.â
âWhy did you feel differently?â
He pushes to the other side of the little pool so they can be closer, âI spent my whole life in the town I grew up in. I love what I do, I love helpin forests stay healthy and regrow and I...I dunno, how often do you get the chance to go to space and see forests on another planet?â
âOnce, if you are me.â Indrid closes his wings, clicks off the light, and offers Duck a hand, âand I am glad you will have the chance to do the same.â
-----------------------------------------------
âYou knowâ Indrid passes Duck the plate of toast, âI am named for Sylph who was the second most recent seer after myself. He and I are the same kind of Sylph, and when my parents learned their mothling-to-be was the next seer, they decided I would be Indrid Cold.â
âNot gonna lie, people actin like your fate is set in stone from birth gives me the creeps.â
âUnderstandable. I would not admit this to the other ministers, but I am no longer content with reporting on the futures. I try to change fate when I can. In this way, I am also like the first Indrid Cold. He kept trying to intervene in disasters; thatâs how he got seen when he should not have been.â
âHoly fuck, there really was a mothman!â
âIndeed. I also learned from his personal notes that he was so fond of humans, he ended up marrying one.â
âDamnâ Duck passes him the sweetener for his tea, teases, âyou share that habit too?â
Red eyes linger a moment too long on his body before Indrid grins, âWouldnât you like to know.â
----------------------------------------------
âYou sure you donât wanna swim?â Duck treads water in the green lagoon of some distant moon. The cruise is docked for an activity day, Duck having selected to spend it snorkeling and Indrid deciding to spend it with Duck.
âThe wings are not built for it. Though the water does look pleasant.â Indrid lazily sifts black sand through his claws.
âYou could wade in. It stays pretty shallow thereâ he points to a sand bar.
âIf I get in over my head, will you come to my aid?â
âYou know it.â
Indrid wades in, chirping as the waves hit his knees. When Duck next glances at him, Indrid is glancing right back. Heâs smiling, soft and secretive.
âI am glad you picked this spot. The view is spectacular.â
-----------------------------------------------
Theyâve hit turbulence a handful of times, all of which pale in comparison to the jolt that sends him tumbling out of bed. There are stabilizer controls to lighten the gravity in the room so they wonât feel the bumps as badly. But when he wobbles over, he finds itâs already up to the lowest it can be without him floating.
He stumbles to the window, the curtains shut against the vast universe. Is turbulence this severe normal? If the gravity doohickey isnât able to help, maybe that means theyâve never hit a storm this bad.
Opening the window is a terrible idea; thereâs no cause of the turbulence to be seen, and now heâs in a dark room staring into the depths of space, itâs so big, heâs so small, they all are, the forces of nature still have it in them to crack this ship like an egg, killing them all.
âWould it help if I said there are no futures where this storm poses a threat to us?â Indrid whispers from behind him.
âKinda.â
âWould it help to see something breathtaking?â
âWh-â
Indrid taps the glass, drawing Ducks attention to two massive, starry shapes, âCelestial whales. At least thatâs the human name for them.â
âHoly fuck.â They remind Duck of Whale Sharks, but impossibly bigger, skin coated in thousands of star-spots, âhow can they do that? I mean, obviously they ainât mammals, but fuckin nothin thrives in deep space.â
âNo one is certain.â Indrid sighs, happily, âisnât it wonderful to know there are such things in the universe?â
ïżœïżœYeah. AHfuckâ He hits the wall as the whole ship shudders, âfuck, sorry-â
âItâs alright. It can be alarming when youâre on your first trip through the cosmos. I, ah, I have something that may help, if youâre alright with me touching you some.â
âFine by me.â Duck follows Indrid to the Sylphâs bed. The seer sits cross-legged with his back against the wall and instructs Duck to rest his head in his lap. The points of his claws begin rubbing his neck and the base of his skull, Indrid humming at a low, steady pitch until Duckâs eyes start to close.
The pressure points are helping, he can tell by his loosening spine. But what soothes him to sleep is the repetitive reminder of Indrid there with him in the dark.
When he wakes up the storm is gone. His body is still moving, rising and falling in time with Indridâs breath as he sleeps. He pulled Duck atop him in the night, and at some point must have wrapped him in his wings, since once, is still half-flopped on Duckâs back.
Seized with affection, Duck kisses his shoulder. When this earns him a happy chirp, he does it again, then kisses a cheerful path up to Indridâs cheek. Red eyes open, sleepy and full of tenderness, just in time for the Sylph to turn his head and kiss Duck properly.
âWhat a lovely thing to awaken to.â
âNo kiddinâ Duck kisses him again, âfuck, Indrid, this is the weirdest goddamn thing to ever happen to me and Iâm thinkin it might also be the best.â
Indrid hugs him close, âWe shall have ample time to find out, if you wish to do so.â
âHell yeah. But we only got a few days before we hit Sylvain.â
âYesâ Indrid kisses his nose, âbut I happen to foresee Woodbridge ignoring my request for peace and sending me a message saying I will be working closely with a certain, visiting forestry expert.â

my ao3 extension/plugin/downloady thing recs:
as i use ao3 primarily on my laptop, i have a number of super helpful things installed to make life easier. some of them are about accessibility, but most of them are just for making my reading and writing experience smoother
1. ao3 enhancements:
this one is an absolute must have for me. it combines a lot of the userscripts you can find on greasyfork and the like. unlike those scripts, though, this is a chrome extension, so it's easier to install (and can also be installed in opera gx!!). it allows you to set a reading speed (which is very handy when you're trying to find a quick fic to read before sleeping at 2am), hide works with too many fandoms, input tags so that works containing those tags are automatically hidden, and decrease the width of the work (which is great on larger screens). there's other things, as well, that it does!!
2. coloured tags
i have a lot of Issues with my eyes and chronic migraines so ao3's normal tags are a nightmare for me. the coloured tags are an absolute godsend though. the script also changes the fonts so everything's a bit nicer and easier to look at. there are two scripts to install: the original one, and the one that allows it to work on dark themes. they both need to be installed together for the dark mode one to work
note: these scripts are a few years old now so they can be a bit finicky. however, just install the two into tampermonkey, and then install the one for lightmode into stylus. that fixed any problems for me
light mode | dark mode
me, using my own fic as an example? it's more likely than you think
3. other userscripts:
note: these all require tampermonkey or something similar to work
tracking: lets you track specific tags and collections and whatever else
clone subscribe button: just adds an extra subscribe button at the end of a work. it doesn't work on fics that you're looking at in a collection, but you can easily just alter the url
download buttons: adds download buttons to works on index pages
links to first and last chapter: adds an extra button on works that takes to straight to the aforementioned chapters. very handy for quick navigation
hide images: hides images in a work. i don't always have this one active, but if a fic is already long and taking 1000 years to load, hiding any images can speed things up
4. extension of our own:
this one is more of an honourable mention, because using it too often breaks the website. it basically sorts out your subscriptions and orders them by update date. unfortunately, using it and clicking on more than one work upsets the site and locks you out for a few mins, so it's usually not worth it. if anyone knows of any other extensions or scripts that deal with subscriptions, pls tell me!!
5. offline reading:
i like to download fics to read offline, either for convenience or for travel purposes. for this, i have a couple of apps:
freda: this is the best ebook reader i've come across. it has a lot of customisation options and you can sync your library with onedrive so you can have it on multiple devices. there's technically a free version and a paid version, but there's absolutely no difference between them other than a banner ad on the free one on the library screen. when reading, the screen is clear of ads, and the only extra thing you get by paying is removing the ads. everything else is available in the free version
calibre: this is technically another ebook reader, but i like to use it for its library management and plugins, particularly fanficfare (which lets you download fics straight into calibre) and epubmerge (which lets you merge multiple works into a single ebook - handy for an ao3 series that you want to compile or smth). at first it wants to automatically open all ebooks in its own reader, but you can change that setting in the preferences. you can also save the calibre library to onedrive, so it syncs across multiple devices

hey, how do you have that personalized background in the pic with your follower count? is it a chrome extension? and congrats on six hundred!
The answer is slightly complicated.
There is no direct extension that allows for customization of Tumblr dashboard, specifically. However, there is a generalistic extension that allows you to inject custom CSS code (both own and pre-made, I will come back to that in a while) into any website. That extension is Stylus (Chrome link, Firefox link).
This extension does not add any sheets on its own. You can choose to write your own CSS code, however, you can also use a site known as UserStyles. It's a free library of themes for various websites (I use some of the themes present there for Discord, Twitter and YouTube as well).
I am using a custom fork of "Tumblr - Black Theme" (keep in mind that this website tends to have an extremely long loading time). Due to the license the theme was uploaded on ("No Redistribution") I cannot directly post my modifications. However, you should be able to easily modify it on your own even with a complete lack of CSS knowledge - here is a link to my tutorial (also contains a link to the exact photo I am using).
Keep in mind that since the writing of the tutorial, the way colour must be expressed has changed - if the colours are not expressed in rgb/rgba format, they will be transparent and thus invisible. Additionally, ever since the release of the tutorial, the way notes are displayed are changed, and now they are synchronized with the "--black" colour, rather than the "in-Tumblr" theme you are using. The top navigation bar containing the Tumblr logo, search bar, dashboard link, inbox (and more) is still fully dependant on the "in-Tumblr" theme you are using, though.
For other sites, I can also recommend these extensions:

Updates: December 22 2021-PGRâs Recent Updates, Why this Game Deserves all of the Love
Itâs been a while, hasnât it, Commandants? Hope youâre still enjoying Punishing Gray Raven!
Life tends to keep me away from PGR from time to time, but even if I canât make any progress with the main story, or participate in other battles, I at least log into the dorms to keep my chibis happy. You have to keep Kamui happy. Itâs the law. Donât break the law, Commandants.
I downloaded this game on Day One of the Global Release, and stuck to it even through the train wreck of its initial release. Iâm super glad I did. With every update, this game becomes even more incredible. I finished downloading the âKowloonâ update a few minutes ago, explored some of it, and came to this conclusion: Kuroâs attention to detail is absolutely phenomenal. The Constructs are now animated when you give them gifts. There are new galleries and new collectibles. The music that accompanies each update is sublime.
And speaking of music, you can now change the main menu music. Not that Iâm tired of the main menu theme-Iâve grown super fond of it. Itâs just amazing that we now have the option to have another theme for our lobby. Honestly, thereâs only one song Iâm âmehâ towards, but one song out of the entire game does not break the experience. Not at all.
This game may be far from perfect. It may be infected with the same controversies other gacha games are infected with. But with every update-
PGR scoots a few inches closer to perfection.
And the game is ridiculously friendly to F2P players. Outside of $12 I spent on BCs, for my Chrome fund, I havenât spent a single cent. I canât. And I bought those BCS months ago. But you know what? My entire roster of characters may not have all 5 star weapons and 6 star memories, but theyâre pretty bad-ass. Lee Entropy and Palefire end up doing all of the work, but all of them can hold their own astoundingly well. So you donât have to beef up your characters with the ultra fancy weapons. In other words-
If you canât spend a single cent on this game, youâll still enjoy it. Probably as much as those that can put real money into the game. Itâs harder to recruit characters without actually buying anything, sure, but if you keep your eyes on A-rank Constructs, you wonât have to feel like youâre spending an entire lifetime trying to recruit Chrome, Sofia or Ayla.
Plus, youâre not punished for being unable to clock in 8-10 hours a day. Eternal Engine and Nona may have ended, but we can still access their chapters. Theyâre locked behind progress walls, but theyâre still there. The stories donât go away once the update expires. More than what I can say about another incredibly popular gacha game.
And we all know how incredible it is for the husbandos to get attention. They may not be in the spotlight as much as Lucia and Liv (both of them are tied for the gameâs protagonist at this point), but we have Lee, Kamui, Watanabe and Chrome. Weâre also getting Camu. And theyâre all important characters. Husbando power.
So yeah. PGR, at the end of the year, still definitely deserves all of the love.

âIt is a canvas about five feet by twelve. The two upper corners are chrome yellow, with an inscription on the left, and my name on the right, like a fresco on a golden wall with its corners damaged.
âTo the right, below, a sleeping baby and three seated women. Two figures dressed in purple confide their thoughts to each other. An enormous crouching figure which intentionally violates the perspective, raises its arm in the air and looks in astonishment at these two people who dare to think of their destiny. A figure in the center is picking fruit. Two cats near a child. A white goat. An idol, both arms mysteriously and rhythmically raised, seems to indicate the Beyond. A crouching girl seems to listen to the idol. Lastly, an old woman approaching death appears reconciled and resigned to her thoughts. She completes the story. At her feet a strange white bird, holding a lizard in its claw [sic], represents a futility of words.
âThe setting is the bank of a stream in the woods. In the background the ocean, and beyond the mountains of a neighboring island. In spite of changes of tone, the landscape is blue and Veronese green from one end to the other. The naked figures stand out against it in bold orange.
âIf anyone said to the students competing for the Rome Prize at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, the picture you must paint is to represent Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going? what would they do? I have finished a philosophical work on this theme, comparable to the Gospels. I think it is good.â
âI worked day and night that whole month in an incredible fever. Lord knows it is not done like a Puvis de Chavannes: sketch after nature, preparatory cartoon, etc. It is all done from imagination, straight from the brush, on sackcloth full of knots and wrinkles, so the appearance is terribly rough.
âThey will say it is careless, unfinished. It is true that one is not a good judge of oneâs own work, nevertheless I believe that this canvas not only surpasses all my previous work, but that I will never do anything better or even like it. Before dying I put into it all my energy, a passion so painful, in terrible circumstances, and a vision so clear, needing no correction, that the hastiness disappears and life surges up. It doesn't smell of the model, of conventional techniques and the so-called rules from all of which I have always liberated myself, though sometimes with trepidation . . .
âI look at it incessantly and (I admit) I admire it. The more I study it, the more I realize its enormous mathematical faults, which I will not correct at any price. The painting will stay as it is as a sketch, if you wish.
âBut there is also this question which perplexes me: Where does the execution of a painting begin, and where does it end? At the very moment when the most intense emotions fuse in the depths of oneâs being, at the moment when they burst forth and issue like lava from a volcano, is there not something like the blossoming of the suddenly created work, a brutal work, if you wish, yet great, and superhuman in appearance? The cold calculations of reason have not presided at this birth; who knows when, in the depths of the artistâs soul the work was begun unconsciously perhaps?â

Battle of the Seasons
Infinity Train: Season 1 vs. Season 2 vs. Season 3 vs. Season 4
While I hope the present situation changes and the second half of this series gets made, at the moment these four seasons are all we have and Iâd like to present my thoughts on them.
Book One: The Perennial Child tells the tale of Tulip, a girl whose frustration over her parentsâ divorce reaches a breaking point and causes her to get swept aboard the Infinity Train. Traveling alongside the bipolar spherical robot One-One and Atticus, the noble king of the Corgis, Tulip goes from car to car working on her own personal issues while inadvertently becoming wrapped up in a conspiracy involving the trainâs Conductor. This season was originally going to be the sum total for Infinity Train, and as such it is an immensely enjoyable and satisfying experience all on its own. The concept, the characters, the atmosphere, all of the twists and turns and the emotional stakes...everything is at the absolute height of quality. Itâs the kind of story that resonates with both children and adults, as anyone can relate to struggling with feelings of helplessness and guilt over things in life that they cannot change.
If I had one nitpick, itâd be that the ending is kind of abrupt. After such an excellent climax aboard the train, the last scene with Tulip back home is way too brief - I feel we needed a little more time spent on that. Oh well, at least it still sends the closing message it needs to.
Book Two: Cracked Reflection centers around Mirror Tulip (âMTâ for short) following her escape from the Chrome Car in the previous season. Still pursued by the Reflection Police who seek her destruction, MT joins up with a passenger named Jesse and a super-powered deer whom Jesse dubs âAlan Draculaâ, and they travel together in the hopes of helping to resolve each otherâs issues. While still of superb quality and getting to explore even deeper themes, I feel this season is a slight step down from the previous one since its focus isnât quite so tight. Whereas Season 1 was undeniably Tulipâs story, Season 2 has a hard time conveying whether this is supposed to be just MTâs story or if Jesse is her equal as a protagonist. Also, it kind of peaks in the psychologically hard-hitting episode 8, with the following two episodes then going on to feel like something of a lackluster conclusion.
Book Three: Cult of the Conductor follows Grace and Simon, leaders of the heinous Apex cult from the previous season, as they become separated from their group and have a big, life-changing experience alongside a strange little girl named Hazel and her gorilla companion Tuba. I think just about everyone who watches this season has the same initial reaction: total numbness from shock, and a dazed âwhat the Hell did I just watch!?â feeling. Thereâs a damn good reason why this season is when the show switched from Cartoon Network to HBO Max: it is dark, it is twisted, it is miserable, it is bleak, it is frightening, it is uncomfortable, and it had no business being on a predominately child-oriented network; itâs frankly kind of a miracle it was even allowed to be made in the first place. Unlike the previous two seasons, I seldom had any fun watching this one the whole way through; it was an exercise in anxiety.
..........So yeah, Season 3 nabs my vote for âbest seasonâ.
Look, when you go Darker and Edgier on something and trade in fun for fucked-up, you had damn well be sure that what you are doing is compelling enough to warrant that. And by God, was this season compelling. From its horrifying beginning to its gut-wrenching middle to its bittersweet ending, I was captivated; I was downright enthralled. This isnât some kind of cheap grimdark edge-fest: the psychological damage and painful emotions the characters go through here are so raw and so real, and itâs for that reason that even though its two leads are despicable people I found myself more emotionally invested in their journey than the previous main charactersâ. The presence of Hazel also helped: this is the kind of character that the âprecious cinnamon roll too pure for this worldâ meme was invented for. More than anything else, I just wanted to see this poor child make it out of this terrible situation OK.
Lastly, we have Book Four: Duet, which focuses on childhood friends Ryan Akagi and Min-Gi Park whose friendship has become toxic as they near adulthood, and their numbers aboard the train are linked together so that they have no other choice to confront and repair what is broken in their bond if they are ever to leave. Itâs definitely the weakest season, especially coming off of Season 3, as despite how old they are Ryan and Min-Giâs personal conflict feels the most simplistic out of any seen thusfar (to make it worse, we hear about a past passenger named Jeremy who sounds like heâd have a more interesting story to follow) and their companion, a talking service bell named Kez, is more annoying than amusing. However, itâs by no means bad, and the writers did a smart by making it technically the first season chronologically, as its events precedes the previous threeâs by several decades. That way, what we presently have of Infinity Train does kind of end on the high note that is Season 3.
Final score is Season 3 > Season 1 > Season 2 > Season 4. But this is subject to change if we hopefully are granted the second half of this outstanding animated anthology series.
