Hey, quick question: how does one draw a “frumpy” guy?

So, I was thinking of drawing/sketching some ideas for my Codywan My Big Fat Greek Wedding AU, mainly Cody’s glow up. But I’ve been trying to find references on how exactly to make Cody (or just a man in general) appear “frumpy” and am getting NOWHERE. Like for women you put on too baggy/unflattering clothes, frizzy hair, oversized glasses, and no makeup and she’s “frumpy”. But does the same work for men? Specifically men who look like they’re 11/10 on a bad day?

I also want to draw the “I’m a Snow Beast” moment of the movie, but how do I translate that into men’s formal wear and have it stay somewhat classy? The easy way out is that gaudy powder-blue tuxedo or something similar, but I want a challenge!

Oh wow! Look at that! Another Codywan My Big Fat Greek Wedding AU post!

So, of course, after posting about who I think Rex and Boba would be (Athena and Nick for those who haven’t seen the update) I started thinking who Maria and Aunt Voula would be.

There was some back and forth with who would be Maria in my head. I don’t know much about Jango from before he appeared in AotC, so I don’t know if there was a character that he was canonically in a romantic relationship with. But after some thinking (and honestly I’m still on the fence) I’ve decided that Shaak Ti could most likely fit the bill. There’s a lot of fan art out there of Jedi Mama Shaak Ti taking care of/raising the clone cadets, which is mainly what put me onto the idea. I’m still open to suggestions so if anyone wants to plead their case of who they think would be a good fit for Maria (POLITELY! I will not hesitate to block people who come out of the gate with hate-guns blazin’!), I’m willing to listen and take it into consideration.

As for Aunt Voula, I know that she’s technically supposed to be Maria’s sister, but I always have a soft spot for sister-in-laws that are so close that they could be the irl siblings. So, I’ve decided that Aunt Voula will be Arla Fett. I’m not sure who Taki and the kids should be (Angelo and Nikki for those who don’t remember their names and don’t want to go digging through IMDB). I’m leaning towards Taki being either an OC or someone from the True Mandalorians. Angelo and Nikki should be clones, maybe from the CC batch? Hmmmmm….

… I just realized that if I’m bringing Arla into this AU, that means that Yaya should technically be Jaster…

… Oh dear

I’m watching My Big Fat Greek Wedding trying to work out the schemantics of the Codywan AU I keep posting about and I gotta say…

Imagining Cody in Toula’s place can be both heartbreaking and hilarious.

So after a good night’s sleep (which I haven’t had in three days) I thought about this a little more so forgive me for unloading a bit:

I originally put Rex as Nick, BUT now that I think about it, Rex would probably be best as Athena. Rex/Athena’s three kids at the beginning of the movie/story are Fives, Echo, and Dogma, with Tup being the baby that was born just before The Wedding.

Boba is Nick now, because Nick is Gus’ Pride and Joy, so that matches with Star Wars’ canon thinking of Boba being the only clone that gets to be referred to a Jango’s son. Plus the idea that Boba wants to secretly be a painter/artist while trying to live up to Jango’s expectations has me weak. I know it’s not very Canon Thinking/OOC but meh, sue me.

Also, I don’t think I’ll stick with the birth order that’s in the movie if Rex and Boba are the siblings. I know it goes Athena -> Toula -> Nick but I like the idea of it being Cody -> Rex -> Boba because making Cody the oldest child who is still unmarried while his younger siblings are out there either married with kids or on the road to getting there while Cody’s still stuck at the starting line would add to the pressure of “you better get married soon” thing Gus has for Toula.

Also, Quinlan is Obi-Wan’s teacher friend who tries to set him up all the time. The one who would’ve been the best man if Cody and Obi-Wan weren’t getting married in the Mandalorian tradition/faith. I was debating if it would be Quinlan but then I was watching the movie again and I forgot one of Toula’s cousins gets the hots for him, and I love shipping Commander Fox and Quinlan so much so there! Validation!

Okay, so….. hear me out….

I just learned about Korda VI and Montross’ betrayal and it honestly could somehow tie into Jaster’s/Yaya’s paranoia (obviously it wouldn’t be an exact play of events; just slightly inspired by it). I wouldn’t go so far as to make Jaster run and hide in the neighbor’s basement/roof like Yaya, but it would definitely play into some form of extreme distrust of Others (non-family members). Maybe even give him some PTSD that was so bad that he had to move in with Jango (along with some kind of physical injury/disability as a result)?
