Your muscles ache. It's a low pleasant hum reverberating through your body, similar to the feeling after a long strenuous day, but nowhere as exhausting. Your heart is still pounding in your chest like an uncontrolled feeling, but it feels so full.

Spencer, the culprit in this story, shifts beside you to pull the covers over your exposed body. He’s gentle and tentative, like he always is, especially after nights like this. It’s like he's apologizing for defiling you the way he does, always concerned about going too far or making you feel uncomfortable. He looks down at you with familiar, warm hazel eyes, and you wonder how he could ever do any of those things.

He brings you closer, an arm coming around your waist to pull you against him. You move to lay on his bare shoulder, the skin-on-skin contact soothing all your stimulated neurons. While you’re slowly coming back to earth, still slightly starry-eyed, you listen to the sound of his heartbeats. You count them, memorize them, get to know him through the organ behind the flesh. It’s so serene that you almost doze off, but Spencer’s raspy voice shakes you awake. 

“Angel.”

You hum, unmoving and consumed by the visions in your head. 

He rubs your shoulder, willing you back to the present. You move to look up at him, and his smile is so sweet that you almost can’t believe he’s the same guy from a few minutes ago. But, then again, no one who knows Spencer would expect him to be so skilled at stealing your breath right out of your body. 

That’s something that no one else will experience with him now that you’re here. You smile, feeling proud and territorial. 

“What are you smiling about?” He leans down and kisses you, you want to ask for more but you’re spent. 

“Nothing,” you whisper against his lips, “Just the fact that you're all mine.” 

He grins, wide and boyish, and you wish his face would glow like that all the time. His flushed face and messed up hair, both being your handiwork, make your heart feel like it's about to burst right out of your chest. Despite just getting your fill of him, you wish you could eat him up right now. 

“Can’t argue with that”, his eyes twinkle playfully, “we still have to get you cleaned up before you can go to bed.” 

You grunt, “god, not again.”

“I’m not letting you go to sleep like that, and you know you’re risking a UTI if you don’t pee before you knock out. It’s essential for a pleasant experience that you wash up properly after, do you know how much bodily fluid you’re covered in right now?” 

You frown, when he says it like that, it sounds really gross, but it’s what you get for being with a germaphobe.

“I hate this part.”

He tucks your hair behind your ear and plants a kiss on your forehead that smoothes your frown down, “I know you do. C’mon, I’ll help you up.” 

Getting up proves to be the easy part, getting up on your legs however, it wasn't as steady as you hoped it would be. When you're forced to sit down on the bed again because the pain pierces through your pelvis so suddenly it feels like getting electrocuted, Spencer looks concerned. 

“Cramps again? I really have to slow down next time.” 

You groan, “no, Spence, I've told you before it’s fine. Just means we had a little too much fun, and it's not a bad thing.” 

He nods hesitantly, “are you sure?” 

“Yeah I am, just,” you reach your arms out, “carry me?” 

His concern is quickly replaced by a bright smile, “gladly.”

Within a few minutes, you’re both out of the bedroom and in the bathtub. Spencer hates the bathtub. He hates sitting down to take a bath and always voices out his concerns about how counterproductive it is to soak in contaminated water. Knowing that he likes to remind you of that everytime you’re taking a bath, Spencer must be dead tired to just sit his naked butt down in the tub, but you’re not complaining. 

Because he’s the sweetest boy on earth, he helps you wash up first, getting all the spots you can’t reach yourself easily. When he’s lazily washing your hair, you decide it’s the perfect moment to start babbling about nonsense, sleep deprivation and bliss mixing together to jumble up all your coherent thoughts. 

“My favorite thing about you being away is when you come back.” 

“So there’s other good things about me being gone?” The smile is so clear in his voice. 

You turn around to scoff at him, “Spence, terrible time to be a smartass.” 

He grins, “it’s never a terrible time to be a smartass.”

It’s quiet for the rest of the bath, you let him clean you up because you can barely see anymore. It’s three in the morning and he came home around midnight. You were already tired by then, but you missed him too much to not take the chance to immediately take him to bed— it’s hard to resist your boyfriend when his hair is growing out again and he hasn’t shaved in 2 weeks.

When the bath is done, he dries you off and helps you get dressed. You’re distracted by his bare chest the whole time, watching the flexion of his arms when he puts a shirt over your head. Then you sit on the bed, observing as he gets dressed. After nearly three hours of touching him in every possible way, his body is still so mesmerizing to you. Nearly three years of being together and countless incidents of unholy experiences, and you still feel like you’re seeing him for the first time. 

“Are you done observing?”

You’re broken out of your lust-filled thoughts by the sound of his voice. Looking up at his face, you're met by a crooked smile that makes you slightly breathless. He walks over to the edge of the bed where you’re sitting, and you welcome him with open arms. 

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” You grin, arms tightly secured around his waist. He runs his fingers through your hair, “you’ve never been a very good liar.” 

Your final step getting ready for bed is letting him braid your hair. You always ask him to do it for you because he’s magical with his hands, his braid always coming out perfectly in a way you could never manage. You’ve taught him a lot about how to care for your hair, and as he tentatively and gently crosses the strand to draw up his perfect braid, you can’t help but think about how good of a father he would be if you ever had a little girl. 

When all of that's done, there's nothing coming between you and the bed anymore. You curl up under the covers as he slips in beside you. You're both tired, from the long day and the long night, but the sense of bliss that comes over you is possibly the most satisfied you've ever been. 

You look at him, reaching out to trace the outline of his stubble. He leans into your touch eagerly while you admire him some more, feeling every small detail over his skin. You know he needs the tenderness just as much as you do, especially when he's had long days at work. You know all the monsters he sees at his job secretly haunt him, and you know that he feels hopeful every time he's in your arms— because the world doesn't have to end every time he has to confront cruelty, and there’s love and adoration out there that almost overpowers the poisonous hate.

You reach for his hands, kissing the calluses on his fingertips. You know holding his gun comes with heavy responsibility, a responsibility that’s made him so much tougher than he was when he first started. When you’re done planting a kiss on every fingertip, you kiss his lips one more time, because you love him and you want him to know it. He smiles into the kiss and you’re sure he does. 

The gold in his eyes is the last thing you see before falling asleep.

jurassic park by michael crichton. yep there's a book! i am almost done reading it right now (it is in fact book number 91) and i seriously love it like could not recommend more.

any of kristen arnett's books but mostly dead things by her is my fav! it's about a lesbian taxidermist

it's middle grade but the beyonders trilogy by brandon mull is so so so good and i love it deeply

lockwood & co by jonathan stroud is a fun ghost/paranormal series; literally the best ghost series i have read bar none

if you like peter pan, fairytale retellings, or having the heart ripped out of your chest by the concept of loneliness and growing up or the lack thereof, the peter and the starcatchers series by dave barry & ridley pearson is a really good peter pan retelling. if you're willing to overlook how some aspects of the peter pan story as a whole have not aged very well. book four is so fucking good tho

i don't often recommend ya fantasy or romance of any kind but the folk of the air series by holly black is a really good fey series with enemies to lovers i actually liked

in a similar vein of the two above, the lunar chronicles series by marissa meyer is a really fun sci-fi retellings of fairytales; heartless by her is not connected in any way but is also a fairytale retelling i fucking LOVE

our wives under the sea by julia armfield is queer, excellent, and a little horrifying

authors i have only read a few from but highly recommend and need to read ALL of include octavia butler and toni morrison

her body & other parties by carmen maria machado is a life-changing collection of queer horror short stories; in the dream house by her is also incredible but it's a memoir and you should look up content warnings on it beforehand if you're a person who doesn't do well with heavy content

i've only read the first two books but the beartown series by fredrik backman is REALLY good; it's about hockey and friendship and living in small towns and stuff. it does deal with some heavy content as well so again w warnings etc but truly i'm obsessed

mexican gothic by silvia moreno-garcia was another horror book i really liked

middle grade again but i adore the twistrose key by tone almhjell (it's fantasy and about like growing up and beloved pets and things) (i'm trying not to rec a ton of middle grade here because i know it's not for everyone but i am an enjoyer of a lot of middle grade series if you ever want recs lol i am like supreme lord of reading puzzle/mystery/adventure series)

i have only read one book by tj klune thus far but my friends swear by him

the princess bride by william goldman is unironically SO good

if you like vague horror, suspense, and having your mind boggled, mona awad is really good

the dead lands by benjamin percy is (stay with me here) a post-apocalyptic retelling of the journey of lewis & clark (yeah the guys from us history) and i'm gonna be real. i was shocked by how much i liked it. it's WILD.

babel by rf kuang is like. massive. but it's really good historical fantasy.

the only good indians by stephen graham jones is really good horror and i've heard really good things about the rest of his books

meddling kids by edgar cantero is this really funky scooby-doo inspired horror/mystery novel that i love. it is Very quirky.

not fiction but animal vegetable miracle (barbara kingsolver; about farming and american food culture and family and stuff), the shallows: what the internet is doing to our brains (nicholas carr; about information technology etc), long live the tribe of fatherless girls (t kira madden; memoir, trigger warnings again), and the radium girls (kate moore; us history) are just. so so so good. in many different ways. couldn't not rec them!!

thistlefoot by gennarose nethercott is really good fantasy; it's an urban fantasy take on the baba yaga mythos that i really loved

four treasures of the sky by jenny tinghui zhang is historical fiction with a tinge of fantasy; gorgeous writing

the girls at the kingfisher club by genevieve valentine is a flapper retelling of the 12 dancing princesses

tender is the flesh by agustina bazterrica is really really fucked up horror/dystopia about a world where cannibalism has been legalized; very graphic in a sense but like. WILD to read.

i hope that's a good range! i read allll sorts of books and i know not all of them appeal to everyone but those are the ones i've really really enjoyed within the last couple years. hope you find something you enjoy out of all of them!

Pink Diamond (Steven Universe)

The excited one.

Everyone knows pink Diamond, the diamond who fell in love with her colony and tried to free it, and her pearl, who followed her out of love. Together they faked her shattering, and ran to protect Earth and the humans who lived on it.

Everyone knows the classic girlie, my beloved pink diamond. Pink is very princess themed, rose being a graceful elegant princess, and Pink, her jester like counterpart.

Blue Diamond (Sage Universe)

The more emotional one.

She discovered Earth and fell in love with its beautiful oceans and silly humans. She sobbed for the other diamonds to free earth, but they simply thought it was another tantrum, and dismissed her time and time again. So she faked her shattering with the help of her Pearl, a soft spoken gem who would do anything to make her diamond happy.

This cutie was so fun to do. Her theming is based off the medieval era, with a slightly more peasant dnd look to her design. I’ve struggled with this design for years, but she finally looks the way I want her to. I let her keep Blue pearl, I just can’t bear to separate the diamonds from their pearls. Blue Pearl is still very soft spoken and sweet, but she can still get angry in the way only blue gems do best, balancing the cute and the scary 💙 She still adores art, and will pursue that later in the “series”

Yellow Diamond (Stephan Universe)

The cautious one.

At first, Yellow didn’t see the appeal of her colony. But after observing the humans, and the strength they showed, she fell in love with the toughness of Earth. She demanded to free her colony, but her fellow diamonds didn’t listen, used to her spoiled behavior. So, with the help of her mischievous pearl, she faked her shattering, fighting for Earth with every fiber of her being. Her pearl was happy for the adventure, and the attention that came with it.

Yellows theming has always felt very war general to me, so I felt the need to keep that warrior, soldier type theming with how she looks. This particular look is, spoiled royal interested in fighting, if that makes sense. Yellow pearl is still in love with herself, but I gave her a bit more mischief. She’s a fan of drama and being sneaky. Of course she still adores modeling, how could I take that from her, come on.

White diamond (Scorpio Universe)

The curious one.

White was fascinated with Earth from day one. She’d never seen a planet so lush, with such thriving species of so many creatures. The way everything fell perfectly into place, and yet was so chaotic and strange, made White want to protect it. She tried to advocate for Earth, but her diamonds ignored her, building her a zoo to satiate her drive to have some of these creatures. But it wasn’t the same, it was too orderly, the organic chaos was gone. So, she faked her own shattering with the help of her pearl, fleeing to earth to study and protect its inhabitants.

Oh man, this one felt so easy and yet I feel like I have to explain myself here. All my White designs are themed after the 1950s, idk why, it just, feels right. So of course, baby White here is themed after the 1950s idea of what the future would be like, think, the Jetsons, or those pin up drawings of the space girls. Her pearl is entirely original, so I’m still working on her. I think she’s very sweet and interested in the scientific aspect just like White, though.

Just some little things for my 'Our Long Road' AU about Max and Juliette's four lovely and beloved children. Collectively called 'The Cubs', and the Verstappen family are labelled as 'The Royal Family of F1'.

Emilian Victor Verstappen

Born in November 9th 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland to Max and Juliette Verstappen.

Older Twin brother to Estelle.

Born six days after their dad wins his fourth championship.

Grows up with a passion for football, being a PSV Eindhoven supporter like his father.

He goes into football academies as a kid, and proves to be the best of his class.

Models his football game style off of Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez.

Also loves music, playing guitar as a way to relax.

His parents' little prince, his father's shadow as a kid, but seeks his mom out for advice and comfort.

Ends up playing for PSV Eindhoven as a forward, wearing the number 33 for his dad. A number he also wears for the Dutch National Team.

Ends up dating Alex and Lily's eldest daughter, Violet Albon.

A model student at school in Geneva, particularly excelling at History, Maths, Languages, and Geography.

Big into video games just like his dad, and games with his cousins and siblings whenever he's able.

The protector of the quartet, as the oldest by five minutes, he takes his job as a big brother very seriously.

Has a very strong bond with his twin sister, and is never far from her as a kid.

Nicknames: Emil, EV33, The Flash.

Very quickly becomes the future of Dutch football, being the talisman for both the Dutch team and PSV as their star forward.

Emilian grows into a confident and strong leader for his teams as he matures in the football world, eventually becoming captain for his club.

An attentive listener, calm and collected under pressure, and driven to succeed at all he applies himself to.

As blunt as his father in his manner of speaking, and always honest with people, but is never cruel with it.

When Emilian and Violet get together, Violet quickly becomes part of the family unit.

Will never admit it to anyone, but keeps his childhood lion plush toy on him when he moves to the Netherlands for good luck.

Estelle tries to teach him how to skate when they're kids, but Emilian never becomes any good at it, content to support her from the sidelines.

Max is overjoyed to put his second son into Karting, and Casper excels right away.

An avid cook from an early age, often cooks for the cubs when their parents are away, and helps them in the kitchen.

Incredibly close to both of his parents, and to his uncle Charles - who he closely resembles.

Unlike the twins, Casper races under a Monegasque license, to honour both his mother and uncles.

The family prankster, teaming up with his cousin Jules to prank the other grid kids and their parents.

Often butts heads with his older brother over things, but the two love each other very much.

A huge engineering nerd, with a love of all kinds of vehicle. And goes into Sim Racing just like his father.

Has a bull on his racing helmet, as well as the names of his parents and siblings.

Yeah, that's about all I can think of for the Verstappen Cubs. I can already kinda feel how much personality they all have unto themselves and together. I want them to be kind of a perfect mixture of their parents in a lot of ways. I'd imagine the entire grid family would be deeply proud of the people the cubs grow into.

This was fun to work on the last couple of days, and I'm glad this got done before I lost energy on it!

Chapter 8: In the Palm of My Hand

“Goodnight, Princess.”

“Goodnight, Hordak.”

Hordak turned around and realized that he had nowhere to sleep. That was not a problem, he slept in the woods before. He will just find a tree to climb into, but it is supposed to rain that evening. Maybe TD has room in his tent. Before Hordak could go look for him he was caught by Entrapta.

“Wait, could you stay with me tonight? You don’t even have to be in the same bed as me just please stay.”

Looking into her pleading eyes, how could he say no to her?

“That is completely fine, princess, I would be happy to share space with you.”

When they entered, Hordak noticed a pile of pillows on her cot.

Even in a war, she still finds a way to be comfortable. Cute, Hordak thought.

Entrapta kicked off her shoes and removed her mask and gloves before swiftly setting up a makeshift nest for Hordak to sleep on.

“Thank you, princess, I am eternally grateful.”

“Oh please, it is the least I could do after you saved my life, twice.” Entrapta flopped down on her cot and bundled herself in a cocoon of blankets, pillows, and hair.

“Goodnight Hordak.”

“Goodnight, Starlight.”

“Hey, that one is new.”

“Do you not like it?”

“I love it.”

Entrapta woke up from her slumber and opened her eyes to see her beloved sleeping in a nest of her pink and purple pillows. Entrapta then noticed metal poking out of his black sleeve.

Oh crap! I completely forgot! Entrapta thought.

She sat next to Hordak and started to carefully roll up his sleeve. She saw the armor she had made him a nearly year ago; however, there were green and black wires branching across the metal. She deduced they were part of a new power source Horde Prime implemented after Hordak had lost the original crystal.

“What are you doing?” Hordak turned his head to look at her. His voice was deeper than it usually was, which made Entrapta’s cheeks a shade darker.

“Inspecting this wiring on your armor. I was so scatterbrained yesterday I completely forgot about it. You still have that crystal, right?”

“I could never part with it.”

“Want me to replace the wiring with it?”

“That would be favorable.”

Hordak stood up from the ground being trailed by a series of popping and cracks from his sorry bones. He hesitated before taking off his white tabard and black undershirt baring his chest for Entrapta to see. 

Entrapta was surprised to see how muscular he has become, but it was not because of physical labor. Hordak explained to her that during the hours he sleeps the energy he gets from eating rips the muscles manually so they can grow back stronger. Horde Prime must have put some sort of chemical that enhances muscle growth inside the rations he consumes. Not that she was complaining, quite the opposite. She then noticed two scars on his chest, one below his right pectoral and one left of his abs. The two scars looked electrical and caused a crater in his skin.

“Where did those scars come from?”

“They are from my fight with King Scorpio, he blasted me with his electricity twice, but I did not feel them because of the adrenaline rush. It is not too bad, especially when compared to King Scorpio.” Hordak grinned.

“Alright, let me see what we are working with.” Entrapta sat upon a chair made of hair as she poked and prodded Hordak and the armor.

“Huh, it looks like most of the wires are on the surface, but it looks like I need to take off the armor so I can properly remove the wiring. May I?”

“You… may.”

Her hair then split up into hundreds of small tendrils that unlatched, unhooked, and unhinged every piece of armor until Hordak was completely bare above his belt line.

Anxiety started to build in Hordak that someone would walk in, see him and mock him, or worse, run away in disgust. He knew Entrapta would never judge him for his body. She was always so accepting and even fascinated by his defect. It was the others he was worried about. Without ever interacting with most of them, they do not seem like the most accepting group, unlike Entrapta.

After a while, Entrapta finished the removal process. She pieced Hordak back together and inserted the crystal back into its proper place. Hordak inhaled deeply with a new life. The wires were a weak energy source and only allowed the armor to run on 40%, but the crystal made him feel like he could hold the entire universe in the palm of his hand.

“Are you feeling ok?”

Instead of responding, he picked up Entrapta and held him above his head with one arm. Holding his entire universe in the palm of his hand.

“I’ll take that as a yes.” Entrapta burst out laughing as Hordak lowered her into a bridal carry.

Just then, Adora opened the door of the tent. Who awkwardly informed them breakfast was ready.

What book are you currently reading?

The Writing Revolution...I can't in good conscience recommend it unless you also happen to find yourself as a teacher trying to capture teenagers' imaginations and get them to produce complete sentences! Hahahaha. Miserable toil.

What’s your favourite movie you saw in theatres this year?

Ooh, this one's easy--The Little Mermaid!! I have seen it with my family twice and then with my friends once. (I felt a little freer to lust after Prince Eric when my husband and two children weren't sitting there with me...)

These days, some form of athleisure. During the school year, I've been told my teacher style is "Jessica Day if she didn't care so much" and...that about sums it up.

Most folks IRL call me Abigail. It's just my brothers, husband, and you guys who call me Abi!

Did you grow up to become what you wanted to be when you were a child?

Absolutely not. I wanted to be a lawyer my entire life. My undergrad was pre-law and then life had other plans for me and now I'm teaching 8th grade American History. And LOVING IT. I start grad school in the fall and I'll be getting my Principal's Certification with that, so I suppose I'm in this education world for the long haul.

Are you in a relationship? If not, who is your crush if you have one?

I am tragically married. Sorry to all interested parties!

I'm fairly good with piano and singing. I'm terrible at cooking.

Oh my. I haven't written as much as I'd like to this year (although I'm hoping to post something before the weekend!!) so I'm choosing to interpret this as the last 12 months. Maybe this bit from walking by her side, talking by her side, have pity?

Ur mom. Okay...sorry. Ahem. I've been sewing more lately. I used ot dabble in high school, but I'm finding more motivation to make things for my toddler than I did to make things for myself.

What’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?

The weather recently! It was supposed to rain the past couple weeks and we've not gotten much more than a few minutes of sprinkling. I looooove rainy days, so that's bummed me out quite a bit.

What’s a hidden talent of yours?

I'm excellent at whistling. It's completely useless, but I'll get compared to a Disney princess occasionally, so I guess that's something.

Yes. My faith is very important to me, but it's *my* faith, so I don't feel the need to bring it up with strangers unless asked about it. (Crazy concept, right?)
