okay so i've been working on some hadestown designs on and off for MONTHS and i wasnt planning on posting them until they were all done but i decided to post what i have done to maybe motivate me to finish the rest. so heres the two main couples!! every time i listen to hadestown a little fake production plays in my head so i wanted to get it out into the world. notes under the cut i have a lot to say <3
my orpheus is a butch lesbian idc you cant take this away from me
i'm bringing back the jean jacket from the london production because i love it so much but ALSO because its always bothered me that orpheus is the only human character that doesnt get a jacket for the winter?? it's worn for some scenes in act 1 including wait for me but is gone in act 2. i imagine she lost it at some point during the journey to the underworld, especially because its so hot down there
the idea was that orpheus' clothes are pretty nice (nice slacks, nice shoes) but theyre all worn out. scuffed shoes, baggy knees, holes in the shirt etc etc
patch on the knee matches eurydice's dress <3
i like the idea of eurydice having a bright dress under her huge dark coat. during summer she is happy and opening up to orpheus so her wardrobe changes to reflect that. but on the flip side during winter when her coat is stolen she is forced to bare her raw self to hades

okay so while i was working on this i came to the realization that i dont really like persephone's dress that much. and then i realized i can do whatever i want.
i referenced a lot of 30's evening gowns. i wanted something poofy and with a lot of movement. not super happy with how i drew the sleeves but its hardddd
theres this one persephone wig that has gray streaks in her hair i loveeee
both dresses of hers would be very shimmery and sparkly. im imagining a lot of subtle texture thats just hard to capture with digital art

So i was thinking more about the second episode of The Amazing Digital Circus and I realized in my last post I just didn't talk enough about the other characters. I want to spend time talking about Gangle this time.

Gangle seems to be pretty much the same as always but the scene where she's driving the candy truck and Jax threatens to tell Ragatha "about the figurine thing" unless she rams into the other candy truck kept me wondering what the figurine thing actually could be.
My current theory is that I think Gangle has made dolls or "figurines" of the others in the circus to go along with the whole artwork she does of everyone else. But I think she's not just displaying the figurines like some sort of collector. I think she acts out really dark things with them to let off steam from being bossed around and controlled the entire time.
I have no real proof, just observations about Gangle's whole theme as a springy little puppet woman who has two masks, and who's "happy mask" seems to always break somehow during adventure's. When she has a happy mask she seems to be somewhat able to cope with whats happening, but the moment it breaks and she's left with just the sad mask, I genuinely believe that she has no real control over whether or not she CAN feel happiness or joy that entire episode until it's fixed again (presumably she goes to bed and when she wakes up the mask is back again or something)
But if Gangle has no actual control over whether or not she can feel happiness when she only has her sadness mask, i think the mask breaks more than we've been lead to believe, and that the figurines and art are an escape from the circus for her, to feel something other than sadness and despair for a moment.

And what if it's not even JUST sadness but all negative emotions? Maybe when she has the sadness mask on she can ONLY feel things like embarrassment, anger, despair which all seems to fall in line with how she already acts from what we've seen. The point is, Gangle is a character who ultimately has the least control over herself out of all of the people in the circus.
Even though, ironically, she should be able to switch between her two masks, the people around her are always constantly breaking the ONE mask that makes her feel anything other than total despair and loss. (Even in the pilot, Jax intentionally stepped on the mask to break it right in front of her lmao T_T which in hindsight was pretty fucked up of him but also still a *little* funny)
If Gangle has the least control over herself, I think it would make sense that the way she copes to not abstract is through these "figurines" of the others.
And if Jax is a person who needs to constantly be entertained to not abstract, I think it makes sense that he'd use Gangle as a verbal punching bag most of the time. Zooble never goes on adventures if he can help it, Ragatha just scolds him and brushes off all of his attempts to piss her off, Kinger is too far gone to care if Jax is insulting him, and Pomni is still new and is the only person willing to curse and yell at him. Gangle is the only member of the circus who just does whatever Jax tells her to because when she doesn't have her happiness mask, she has no real confidence in herself (which is a positive trait and not negative)
"Aren't you supposed to be submissive and agreeable?" No actually she's not T_T She's supposed to be able to tell you to fuck off just like everyone else in the circus, but she can't because someone broke the one thing that allows her to have ANY backbone.

“What are you going to do? Bite me? Like a dog?”, a defiant look in my eyes. “Watch it”, his eyes grew dark. “Or what? I’m not scared of you”, I sat up straight. 
 H-huh?, my eyes widened as I felt the back of his hand against my cheek. This was the second time he hit me. It was a sudden reminder of his strength. 
“On your hands and knees”, his voice colder than usual as he freed my hands. “N-no”, I loudly swallowed. “I won’t hold back this time”. 
He didn’t need to raise his hand. The way he looked at me was more than enough to make me obey. 
“Good”, he got behind me as his fingers gently traced over my spine. I flinched once I felt his cold fingertips. “Oh? What’s wrong?”, he mocked as his hand wrapped around my hair. Without saying anything else, he pulled my head back as his lips hovered next to my ear. 
“Scared?”. 
“Yes”, I tried to hold back tears. 
It was best to just go along, to give him what he wanted.

My stomach started to turn. Feitan had wrapped a bandage around his waist in an attempt to stop the bleeding, but the once-white fabric had already turned red. 
“Here”, he grabbed a couple of things out of the cabinet. “D-don’t you need something for the pain?”, I slowly walked closer. “It’s fine”, he grunted as he got rid of the bandage. 
Right. I should’ve known better than to look at the wound. 
“What?”, his cold eyes grew more tired by the second. “N-nothing”, I tried to get some feeling in my fingers by shaking my hands. “Hurry, it hurts”, he let his head fall back. I nodded before I cleaned his wound. 
So far, so good.
“Shit”, Feitan grunted at the stinging sensation of the disinfectant. “Sorry”, I softly responded before looking at the needle. “It’s fine, just hurry”, he looked to the side. “S-so”, I cleared my throat as I held out the needle. 
I couldn’t do this. I knew I couldn’t. Why did I even try? 
“Think 8 stitches are enough”, he pulled his brows together as he examined the wound. 
I just nodded as my head started to spin. The wound looked even more awful as blood kept dripping down onto the cold tiles. 
“Y/N?”, Feitan’s voice sounded strange. As if he was yelling from far away. “Y/N?”, he repeated as dark spots took over my sight. “Fuck”, he gritted his teeth before catching me.

The next DMW comic?
I found myself stuck writing the next DMW comic. No matter what I do, it feels kind of bland; it's just missing the spark. Putting my thoughts on digital paper often helps me sort things out. And if I write something, there's no harm in posting it here. Hey, perhaps you can voice your opinion if you want!
WARNING! It's a barely comprehensible word soup from now on, with bits of minor spoilers here and there. Proceed with caution.
So, what have I done so far?
In the first comic, I set up the basic premise/plot. In the second, I established the stakes—what happens if he fails to keep up the act. The third covers some behind-the-scenes elements and introduces another subplot for further into the story.
This is the beginning of the story set down: the premise, the main characters' motives, and the stakes.
And I have the finale sorted out, but obviously, I can't say anything about that—except that I sobbed at one point while writing it. So now, what do I want to do for the middle section? I want to explore Peppi-no's interactions with other important characters, their dynamics, and set up things for the finale before it all comes crashing down. That's mostly figured out.
So, what will be the comics the middle section about?
The morning after meeting Pizzahead
Peppi-no and Noise interactions (dynamic figured out, exact interaction not)
Peppi-no and Gustavo again (sorted out)
Peppi-no and Noisette
Peppi-no and the other bosses
Right now, I'm stuck in an awkward section between the beginning and the middle. The next comic is supposed to take place the morning after Peppi-no's encounter with Pizzahead. After this meeting, Peppi-no's mind is filled with many conflicting emotions. Perhaps he is reminded of his life in the tower, which would lead to other memories flooding in. Hmm. Yeah, I could show Pizzahead's and Peppi-no's interaction that led to Peppino's demise. Perhaps a trippy, dreamlike sequence would be fun to explore Peppi-no's internal turmoil.
Internal turmoil? What's that about? He's angry with himself for being such a fool; he's feeling guilty about what he did. Also, the real Peppino's memories are mixing with it all, making everything even messier. But I have already done a dreamlike sequence in the first comic. What should be different about this one? Maybe he should confront himself more directly... hmmmmm, I think I just got it. This actually sounds interesting. Okay, word soup over.
Actually, the word soup isn't over. I have this horrible habit of bloating and stretching my stories. (In my previous art life, it took me two years to get to the point, with one comic coming out weekly. I just kept coming up with side plots, and I mean, I fleshed the characters out really well, but you know…) I want to keep the DMW AU compact. It took all my willpower to package the Great Swappero into one somewhat comprehensible storyline from start to finish. I'm still fighting my inner artistic demons to keep the story finished and not tear it back open. Just wanted to get that out of my chest.

Abstracted Heart, Mind and Soul

Art I kinda pushed out of an AU/concept that I need someone to write for me because I have too many WIPs.
I call this the “Abstraction AU” (unrelated to the Amazing Digital Circus, but does share some similarities), and here’s how it works:
The Basics
Inspired by Core Suppressions from Lobotomy Corporation
Basically, whenever one of the three undergoes extreme stress, they “Abstract” into one of these forms
The Headspace basically stops working the way it’s supposed to until the transformation is reversed: the way it’s affected depends on who’s Abstracting
The transformation only wears off once the side passes out: which sounds like it would result in a big boss fight or something
BUT, luckily for them, since Abstracting is basically letting out all your emotions and strength and fighting with all you’ve got, it is EXHAUSTING
so once it’s happened they’re typically not conscious for any more than an hour
Contrary to what you might guess at first, the side is still “themselves” while Abstracting: it’s just difficult to tell since the stress that causes the transformation also makes them act irrational and overly violent
Despite this, post-transformation, the side typically doesn’t have memories of what happened during the fight… until a few hours after waking up
It can happen to the same person more than once, but to Abstract for the first time you have to be pushed PARTICULARLY far
After that it gets a bit easier for it to happen again, like you’ve given into your inner monster
To further emphasise that, they all get “battle scars” from their first time Abstracting that stay with them for the rest of their lives
And to go into what the first time abstracting was like for each individual:
Heart
Abstraction is usually caused by intense stress.
While this is still true in Heart’s case, since being emotional is his job description, he needs to be pushed further than the others in order to Abstract
(because if that wasn’t the case, he would Abstract all the time)
Anyways, his first time probably came after days on end of extreme trauma
Specifically, trauma that neither Mind nor Soul did anything to try and stop
He likely Abstracted out of view from the others, and they didn’t even notice until Soul was like “wait why isn’t my trident working”
As Heart is… the heart of the Headspace, when he Abstracts, magic stops working there
His design was obviously based off of biblically accurate angels, as well as a Beholder from DND but without eyes so it would look like a heart
You’d think he’d be biased towards Mind while like that, but no- he goes after Soul.
He expected Mind to ignore him, but Soul? It’s his job to make sure things are alright with him, so why’d he just abandon him?
Even without the benefit of the Trident, though, I imagine Abstracted Heart wouldn’t be all too difficult for them to take down if they really tried their best, so he goes down rather quickly
After he wakes up, his head’s basically just in one big blur for a while until the memories start to come back
Then he just starts shaking and hugging them while constantly muttering apologies (even though he still has EVERY RIGHT to be mad)
”Battle scars” take the form of purple(-er) wings, fangs and a halo
Mind
Mind’s is a pretty different case
While his was also caused by days of repeated trauma, as Abstractions tend to be, his problem is that he kept trying to bottle it up and only started to show even the tiniest cracks just before the transformation
(after all, I don’t think they’d take a chance like that again after what happened with Heart)
He likely Abstracted right in front of Heart and Soul
His design was based off of UFOs, obviously, as well as a brain and spine. The eyelashes are meant to look like the sun’s rays
When he Abstracts, all laws of physics in the Headspace basically stop working and the place gets even weirder than normal
Despite having the advantage of Soul’s trident this time, taking him down is a lot harder since he’s metal: the key is to tire him out
When he wakes up after the fact, he’s even more of an asshole than usual, but mainly because he’s still tired and stressed
He gets all quiet once the memories start to come back to him though, like he feels bad about attacking them so violently but doesn’t really know how to express it
”Battle scars” take the form of rhombus-shaped pupils and back spikes
Soul
If you’re a time loop fan, then Soul Abstracting is typically what restarts the loop
He was designed to be the most humanoid to show that he was the closest to Whole, with three heads because… you know why
When he Abstracts, he fuses with his trident, the Headspace becomes black and white, and starts slowly to fall apart
Heart and Mind do not stand a CHANCE in this fight, hence why his Abstraction is inevitably what restarts the loop
However, if by some chance they lasted long enough for things to go back to normal, I imagine Soul would be… surprisingly nice after going back to normal
It’s like finally letting it all out made him calm down a bit. He’s still pretty awkward around them, but better than you might think
Even when the memories come back, sure he kinda shuts himself in for a bit and avoids talking about it, but he’s not as closed off as Mind is
Battle scars take the form of his right eye becoming normal (as in not identical to his left eye as seen in the art), and the left side of his face being covered in black (to match his face in his Abstracted form)

I'm not late for my digital art challenge, time is actually extremely early. Also my sister allowed me to use her photoshop and I am just confused because I can't adapt after looking at the same one software for four years. Also I hurt myself in Paris subway and I'm unhappy.

Don't look at the colour palet thingy, it's 5:00 am and I don't know what I'm doing.
So I decided to use this challenge to develop my dumb au ideas without taking any time to introduce you to it 😈
But because I feel like I should give some context, I'm still gonna yap about it😈😈😈
So actually, Jay isn't the one I should start with, but I'm chaotic so here you go 🫠
But it originally started when I realised that Ninjago gave Cole so little screen time that I started to make my own Cole lore in my head (sometime my brain does this on its own). And basically, I went from "what if Cole had a backstory?" to "what if I gave Cole my childhood trauma because I relate to him way too much?"to "what if Jay had siblings?" to "what if Zane was the only one with a perfect childhood?". And before I knew it an alternate timeline came tickling my circuits at night.
This then became me being mad at season 7 for bringing back Kai and Nya's parents, and decided to give (almost) all the ninjas childhood traumas based on what I understood of their character.
So in this au, Jay doesn't really have any "childhood trauma", but I kinda designed his family to be problematic in a way that he would grow with many insecurities because he lacked parental attention. And this despite his parents being awfully nice and caring to him and his siblings. It's just something that can happen, especially in large families or when the parents are so invested in their work/hobby that they tend to unintentionally neglect their kids, and I think that both are happening in Jay's family.
I'm also thinking that his parents would have difficulties understanding most of their children exposing neurodivergent symptoms. I strongly believe that Jay is on the ADHD spectrum, and as a person with ADHD symptoms as well, I'm using my personal experience to explain how he could've grown with it. (I'm not very good when talking about neurodivergence, just know that I based most of Jay's childhood problems on this video, which I think explains very well how parents can have the best intentions but still hurt their children because they don't understand them)
So of course, the final personalities of the ninjas are a bit different from canon, but I did try to make them similar at best, or close from what I understand of them, which might not be correct X). In this au, Jay is very insecure about his abilities, which results in him hiding most of the time to build/model/create/whatever artistic stuff he said he did, but also in him having more difficulties to unlock some of his powers (like the elemental dragon). After spending some time with him, the other ninjas learn how to properly encourage him to open up and make him gain some self-confidence. When he is not in a stressing situation, Jay acts rather childishly, because he was used to be mothered by his parents and his older siblings, and he is more open about his emotions than others can be, he even has trouble hiding them when necessary.

An answer
I'm not going to post the question because I don't want the person who asked it to get piled on.
The magical art fairy did not give me a great and grand education that my mommy and daddy paid for.
My parents were poor and at one point homeless. They lived in a pigeon coop. With pigeons.
I was not super popular in school. I was a nerd in the dark days before being a nerd was something people aspired to. I had braces, glasses, bad acne and was a bit chubby. When I no longer had any of these things (well, I still wear glasses, I prefer them to contacts,) people acted like I always looked that way and sailed the seas of success on a wave of appearance advantages.
My parents did not pay for my education. I went to regular school like everyone else. I had one year of college which I attended on academic scholarship, and I majored in business. I had an art class with a professor who almost never showed up. When the scholarship money ran out after one year, I left.
After I'd been a professional artist for more than twenty years, I took an online digital art class at one of those for profit art schools, which was quite a trick on dial up speed, I must say. Shortly after, I realized it was a scam, I contacted the administration to demand my money back. I got it. The school was eventually sued into oblivion and went out of business.
I did manual field labor as a kid, worked in a veterinarian hospital, parked cars, and ran a roller coaster. I picked up dog poop and did volunteer work at the U.S.O. and the AIDS Housing and Education Fund. I worked as a condo association attendant.
I don't know where people get the impression that I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth. And it's not like I don't have some advantages. But money and status weren't among them.
Most of the people in comics from my generation come from poverty. Some didn't. But most did.
I am self taught and most of what I learned was from the Famous Artist Course books my mom got as a kid. I was very grateful that my dad invested in a set of encyclopedias for the family when we were still quite poor. I devoured them.
I started sending out portfolio work, story ideas, and resumes at age 12. My first rejection letter was from Random House. I got my first advertising gig when I was about 14-15. The woman who hired me was Linda Wesley Salake.
I met artist Frank Kelly Freas at a science fiction convention I found out about from an advertisement. He was very kind and mentored me. He didn't teach me much about art, but he did teach me a lot about the realities of the art centered life.
I cooked and cleaned house for him after his wife Polly died.
My average income for my first ten years as a professional artist was less than $10,000. And for part of that time, I was not living with my parents. So I supported myself on less than $10,000.
Eventually, I lasted long enough in the arts that I started making some money. Then things got worse. Then they got better. Then they got worse. Then they got better.
Advantages, contacts, ability - none of that is distributed equally. But if you can, make art because it is something that means something to you, and it gives you joy.
And we all deserve some joy.
If it was just about the money, I'd have ditched this bug bin long ago.

💻 DCA AU Idea: Digital Horror 💻
This is my first time posting a DCA AU so I’m sorry if my post sounds more like disconnected rambling ahaha 🥲 But here goes!
The DCA duo in a digital horror setting.
Think KinitoPet but instead of Kinito as the mascot of a long-lost pet game, it’s Sun and Moon as the face of an old creature collection/virtual pet game created by Fazbear Corp on their old 90s company, kid-friendly website.
Think like a mix between Pokémon and Neopets, speaking as someone who played too much Pokemon and played literally zero Neopets 👍🏻
One day many years after the website has been shut down, You hear rumors about a “haunted” pet game made by the Fazbear Corp and decide to check it out, because you didn’t watch enough horror movies to know this is a terrible idea :>
The game (archived and run on a server supported by Fazbear fans, I don’t know much about tech so I dunno if this is even possible but whatever) runs like it should when you first enter it. However, it starts acting up when you input your old username…
I might start writing this as a fic once I’m further along on my current fic, so for now I’ll just be dumping my AU ideas on this blog haha
Here’s a summary and a brief snippet I wrote because the idea wouldn’t leave me alone:
Virtual pet game websites are a dime in a dozen. You might’ve tried out one or two in your childhood, but memories of that are fuzzy at best. It’s only when your classmate brings up a particular website hosted by Fazbear Corporation that you begin to remember playing it briefly during its heydays, and you decide to visit it for nostalgia’s sake.

“Welcome to Sun and Moon’s Superstar Daycare!” the computerized voice of the sunny jester character trills. He lounges on top of the window asking you to create a new account, kicking his curly-tipped shoes merrily in the air as he eagerly awaits your input. His bouncy avatar, its details showing hours of love and dedication poured into each brush stroke, paints a hilarious contrast against the shoddy art that makes up the background of the game. You don’t really care, though. It’s not like anyone plays these types of games for its art.
Your hands hover over the keyboard. After a moment’s hesitation, you try to enter your old username.
“Starbite”
Most likely the “Sorry, this username has already been taken” prompt will pop up since you clearly remember using it as a kid, but there’s no harm in trying. You click on the “Confirm” option.
Nothing happens.
Weird. Is it hanging? You click it again, and again. Nothing happens. Even Sun has frozen still. Yep, it’s definitely hanging. Pity, but it’s not too unexpected considering the game’s age. You decide to fall back on the good ol’ cure: spamming the mouse button. clickclickclickclickclickcli
his eyes flick up to stare at you
The shock shoots through your whole being like a lightning bolt. You gasp sharply, eyes fluttering close for a brief moment before they’re cast on the computer screen again.
“Welcome back, Starbite!” Sun says. He takes center stage in a field of rudimentarily drawn grass, the baby blue sky matching the bright smile stretching from “ear” to “ear”, like nothing had happened. “Go forth and pick a Faz Pet to be your forever companion, and I hope you enjoy your stay at our esteemed daycare!”
The character delivers his scripted lines like he should.
The character has his arms up in celebration like he should.
The character smiles at you like he should.
So what is this cold dread trickling down your spine…?

Star Dream Soul OS might seem like all other soul bosses at first glance, but in reality, it’s not really a soul boss at all. By the time it’s fought directly, the only soul component of it, Haltmann, has been deleted. At this point, Star Dream is just a machine imitating what a Soul boss would act like… and not entirely getting it.
Its name specifies that it’s a “Soul Operating System,” not Star Dream Soul or Soul of Star Dream. It attempts to teleport randomly like the other Soul bosses would, but its teleportation isn’t very random at all. It follows a rapid, set path, never moves vertically, and only shows variation when it moves back and forth right before it attacks. When it splits in two, it cannot do the ‘rain of paint’ trick because it’s not a soul; it can only recombine and cause explosions. However, it still tries to do the ‘rain of paint’ with missiles of the same colors. Just like the teleportation, the missiles follow a predictable path around the battle arena, unlike the paint that falls at random.
The only recurring Soul attack it seems to have down pat is the four-way cutter attack, which in all honesty wouldn’t be very hard to replicate.
I love that you bring up the rain of paint as proof it is without a soul because this means you are ALSO a subscriber to the super cool "Paint/Art is The Essence of Life and Soul" theory!
So, basically, yeah. This is all very smart analysis. And I want to branch off from it to share a wild and fascinating HC that a mecha anime-loving friend shared with me after playing Planet Robobot!
You see, they were struck by the Robobot Armor crying in the ending after ejecting Kirby and pushing him safely back to Popstar...
Now, they weren't familiar with the pause screen re-translations or the Extra mode (yet) or all the interviews but I'm glad they weren't, because their theory broke my heart with how beautiful it was!
"That was President Haltmann in the Robobot Armor, right?" They said. "After his mind had been digitized? It had to be. A part of him escaped Star Dream and helped Kirby to undo his wrongs."
....!?! How had I never thought of that before? Why else would a musicbox version of those familiar opening notes of "The Noble Haltmann" be playing? Noble. Max showing this side of him we'd never seen in game but knew to exist before his mind was corrupted by that horrible machine. And it is only when the Robobot does this act that Popstar is freed from Star Dream. It's not Star Dream's defeat but the Armor who signals that it is time for everything Star Dream (and he) has done to fade into stardust and memories....

Apollo, My Beloved
Perhaps I couldn't wait any longer before I finally addressed my beloved patron and godspouse. Both of which are terms I will define in this post. Apollo has been part of my life, well... since birth! Being my Patron, he has been around for all of it. He's seen me at my best and at my worst, he's seen me through my relationships and my hardships. He saw me through my hardest moments, through the easier times, and through the trauma I've faced.
So yeah. He and I are pretty close. Let's get into it, this is going to be a long one.
Who is Apollo? ☀
I have heard Apollo referred to as the God of many things, and this description of him is not incorrect as much as it is a gross minimization of the things he takes Godly precedence over. He is the god of:
The Sun; Light; Poetry; Music and the Arts; Healing / Medicine; Plagues; Knowledge; Order; Prophecy; Truth; A God of Beauty; Agriculture; and Archery.
Some of these things are not as well known as others, and there are absolutely some things missing from that list. Again. He rules over a lot of things.
Apollo, in my life, has been more present as the God of music and the arts, and prophecy. A major part of my practice is the art of prophecy and divination, the concept of time and the future. Of course, I do not have as much time as I would like to delve fully into the concept of time as much as I'd like, but I still like to dip my toes into the concept of prophecy. It took me a while to accept the fact that prophecies do, in fact, exist, and they are things that can be accessed by someone who is not the Oracle at Delphi.
Apollo is also known for having many lovers and, more nuanced, has been claimed as a patron God of Queer individuals. He has had his fair share of gay lovers himself, and in fact, is quite known for having a series of lovers who have then turned into plants. For example:
Hyacinthus, who was turned into a Hyacinth. Daphne, who was turned into a Laurel tree. Cyparissus, who was (unwillingly) turned into a Cyprus Tree.
At a certain point, it is almost comical.
Apollo, as a Worshipper and Devotee.
Of course, everyone starts somewhere. And for a good portion of my practice, I started as a worshipper and devotee of Apollo. This meant that I was dedicating certain acts to him and gifting him little trinkets and leaving him offerings. My favorite instance was when I left him a pack of cookies for about a month. After a month, I went to eat them as to not waste them. The cookies gave me static and shocked me. Apollo and I had a conversation about boundaries following this.
I have been devoted to Apollo my whole life, I like to say. Ever since I could improperly hold utensils within my digits, I drew on things. When I first learned how to make illegible sounds, I sang. When I learned how to create poorly worded poetry, I crafted it. By no means am I a lyrical genius or a poet laureate. In fact, I'm horrible at writing song lyrics and I have only ever written one catchy verse, and in all my years of playing Ukulele, I have never been able to play and sing until November of last year.
However, in my early childhood, leading up to college, I was nearly prodigal when it came to musical instruments. I graduated high school knowing how to play clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, flute, xylophone, euphonium (my favorite), bass guitar, acoustic guitar, ukulele, trumpet, trombone, and kalimba. I'm sure there are people out there who know more instruments, but all things considered, this is a damn collection of instruments that I'm pretty okay at. In 8th grade I was the back-up singer in my military schools rock band, I was the acoustic guitarist.
I've also been acting for about 9 years (I'm about to be 20), which is a good portion of my sentient and cognisant life. I've done work both on stage and off, but yet still have not managed to be in a musical. They scare me.
Not to mention my history with other forms of art. In fifth grade, I painted a still life that was elected and ended up in a local art gallery. In the first week of May, one of my photos from study abroad was selected as being the best in its category and I won a prize. My history teacher hung a drawing I did of her daughter in the classroom because she adored it so much. However, that may have just been because it was a picture of her daughter.
This laundry list of artistic endeavors is not meant to be a flex or a brag. It's meant to showcase my extensive history in the arts and my devotion to Apollo. He has been an important part of my life. Before every performance, I pray to him. Before every concert, I'd ask him to send me humility and patience. Before every drawing, I ask Apollo for inspiration and a dash of creative whimsy. I also say hi to the sun every morning, wishing him a good morning while I drink my morning coffee.
Apollo, as my Patron.
As my patron, Apollo is my biggest mentor. He is there for me through thick and thin. When the going gets tough. I know I can lean on and rely on him.
My mother calls me Sunshine (my hair sticks up and gets all frizzy, and so she calls me Sunshine because she considers my hair to be rays), she always has. This is reflective of Apollo's presence in my life, in my opinion. A little ray of the sunshine that he emits.
But back to the mentor thing. Apollo has always been someone I can look to whenever I need guidance. Whether that means consulting the cards and asking him for some guidance, or using a pendulum and having an asinine round of "is that a yes or a no" with him, or him sending me a sign.
Very recently, I asked him for a sign that he's still there. That he hasn't gone anywhere or left me. I asked him to send me something bright orange, out of the ordinary, that I wouldn't expect to see. About two days later, at the beach, one of the friends we had been waiting on shows up wearing a bright orange dress. And I mean neon. And she never wears bright colors like that.
But, enough hyperspecific personal anecdotes. If I keep going, this post would be an autobiography.
Apollo, as a patron, is a very hyper and mischievous guide and mentor. He will say things that don't make sense in the moment, but will eventually make sense. He likes his riddles. He likes his complex-meaning messages. That is why it's important to write things down, of course.
Apollo, as a Godspouse.
So, let me start with the definition of a Godspouse. A godspousal to a God, Goddess, or any divine being with the intention to devote yourself to them wholly and fully for the rest of your life. This can look like a lot of things. It can be entirely platonic, it can be romantic, it can be a continuous boss-employee work style relationship, pretty much anything. The only difference between this and a normal worship or working relationship is that it is sort of binding. It is not a light decision to make, and it should be a decision you make after years of already devoting yourself to the divine being.
I am of the unpopular belief that you can start deity work at any time during your practice, not just later on. Apollo started my practice with me, and I am of the firm belief that I only understood parts of my practice and have made so much progress with his assistance. It obviously depends on the deity you work with, which deities you accept help from, and who you let into your life. But this is an entirely separate post for another time. Apollo and I have developed a strong, firm bond over the past 10 years. And in the grand scheme of my practice, we've been godspoused for only a short while.
Our relationship is more of a romantic kind, in the sense that we have our affectionate nicknames for one another (he calls me his songbird and sunbeam, and I call him Sunspot / my sunlight). We flirt back and forth and send one another gifts (I, in the form of offerings, and he, in the form of signs and literal gifts through people in my life). It's a sweet little give-and-take we have. My end goal, though, is to become a sort of oracle for Apollo. Again, this loops back to my obsession with time and prophecy.
The End (Finally)
If you read all of that, you rock! Apollo is important to me and he has left a major imprint in my life. He is a major source of light for me and to not ramble about him this much would be a cardinal sin of which I would have to repent for. Plus, he loves and adores attention. This has spawned many words in the master document, as my brain has decided to positively gnaw on this idea, and alas, nothing is finished yet, so have a bit of worldbuilding and some drawings in the meantime.

Emmet craves violence. Akari and Rei are used to this (featuring: probably the best expressions I've ever drawn)
he's a bit older now, but still smaller than his evolved starter; Typhlosion can tell his soul is older, but he is physically small, so she abuses his lack of height to shower him in affection
an internal mess of conflicting instincts, thoughts, and emotional maturity, but Arceus's plan is set in motion, and there's nothing Emmet can do about it
Worldbuilding:
Emmet got shrunk on his way to Hisui, due to the Rift's distorted power affecting him on the way out; he lands on Prelude Beach, drowning in his Depot Agent uniform now that he is teeny tiny
Arceus, panicking a little bit, communicates more directly with Emmet, urging him along on his mission
Emmet's memories are messed up, and his conduct is an odd combination of a child and an adult. By which I mean he can be disconcertingly clever and mature, but also the poutiest little guy with a habit of crying
Young age plus being overwhelmed plus stress equals one mute boi; this does not change his penchant for causing Problems
Jubilife is a lot more lenient with him because of how young he is, but Laventon, Cyllene, and Kamado suspect that he isn't supposed to be like this due to how he was found
Emmet is in an awkward position as far as finding living conditions go, being too odd for most parents to want to take in but also much too young to live on his own
Akari and Rei are assigned babysitters. Let the stressing and development of gray hairs commence
Emmet is Perfectly Behaved and causes no Problems at all, of course, why would he? Why would he?

After sending Emmet home, Arceus shortly feels a distinct feeling of being in danger

Sudden realisation that Yuki from The Cat Returns and Louise/Luisa from Whisper of the Heart are very visually similar and wondering if there's any deeper connection or if Louise's colourations were borrowed from WotH so as not to introduce a wholly unfamiliar kitty that will be significant not only to the plot, but to the protagonist of the sequel.
Blue eyes, cream or white-coloured fur, pink ears and nose, and a dark pink textile for costume or ribbon.

It could be just that kind of practical reason.
... Buuuut it could also be fun to stipulate that Yuki is perhaps a reincarnation of sorts. TCR could easily be interpreted as being Shizuku's finalised story from WotH, with how Muta and the Baron are used and Shizuku's vision for the Baron acting as a guide and inspiration to a young lady in trouble.
Why not include Louise in that somehow? Shizuku is a very sensitive child and writer, it would not surprise me that she'd be discomforted to give the Baron in her story a happy love story and ending when he as the statue in real life is still living in hope (projected by humans, but still, the projection is a narrative, and Shizuku's story also being a narrative, it feels right to describe the human projection as though it is real, at least in relation to TCR).
A street kitten, dirty and starved, who later helps Haru in return for having saved her early in life. A kitten.
It's quite recently born, compared to the Baron, who was made pre-WWII.
In the manga, its implied that the maker of Baron perished or had to run away from Germany when the world war started. "The story goes back over fifty years. / At the time, I was working for an import-export comapny... I often traveled back and forth between Japan and Europe." [Panel is of Northern Germany, displaying the capital of Berlin, and the North Sea and Baltic Sea.] (next page) "One day, in the corner of a coffee house, I discovered this cat. / I spent the next three days begging the owner to sell it to me. Finally, he gave in. / On one condition... / The cat was to be part of a set. He was working on the cat's companion, / and asked that I hold off selling him until the female cat was created. / I agreed to wait until the cat's companion was sent to me, and returned to Japan with only Sir Cat here. / But in the meantime, the war broke out and the cat's promised companion never arrived. / My company went bankrupt as well. After the war, I was only able to return to Germany once. / Do you see here, on the soles of his shoes?" [Panel is that of the shop owner pointing to the bottom of the Baron's shoes, indeed displaying a name. I can¨t read it on the digital page though; I might need the printed version, but this too would be very small.] "The doll maker inscribed his name. / With that information in hand, I searched high and low for him. But he was nowhere to be found. / And yet... I still have to believe that Sir Cat's sweetheart will someday arrive." (next page, top panel) "But until the day comes, here is where he will stay." In the manga, Shizuku reads up on Germany and WWII as part of her research and a direct result of hearing the story of Baron's creation. The titles include: "The Art and E[xxx] of Germany", "The People of Germany" (second-thickest book in the stack), "the Eurasian Enigma", "Puppets of the World", "The Second World War", "The Dolt Quihote and Conquistadors", "Famous Museums in Europe", "West-Germany" (thickest book in the stack), and "Travels through Europe".
That aside this was greatly to argue my point that if the companion piece (Louise) was destroyed or interrupted and never finished in WWII, then perhaps it could have been seen as a "death". It's one of the theories Shizuku might hold, but would not voice to the shop owner (Nishi Shirou) who values the hope of the story.
And so it might have been a rough concept of hers to have Yuki be a reincarnation of Louise, and perhaps relight her romance with the Baron. She ultimately chooses against that creative decision, but she does keep Louise's colours in Yuki.
Hm, oh! I forgot! In the manga, the Cat Kingdom is the place of dead cats. Muta describes it derisively as a place of ghosts who cannot acknowledge that they are dead, if my memory serves right. It doesn't seem that far-stretched then to interpret Yuki as the departed Louise...
Additional worth of note, is that the romance aspect is still kept, just not with Baron; also, that the engagement/arranged marriage/soulmate "We knew each other before we were made or met" aspect is switched out in favour of an unexpected love separated by class (palace servant and prince). This felt like it was made in mind for Lune though, rather than as a "well there needs to be romance somewhere!", in the sense that by giving him a love interest then it's an easy narrative excuse for him not to desire the marriage (aside from not knowing Haru, Haru being a human, and also Haru is a child). His heart is occupied already!

THE COLOURED DIGITAL PEICES ARENT MINE, THEY ARE OFFICIAL ART FROM THE GAME
(so you can tell whos who, and for those unfamiliar with rainworld)
I drew the main three rainworld characters from the base game and gave them environmental adaptations according to their play style for sillies :3
SURVIVOR:
I gave survivor a more average slugcat body type as it serves as the “normal mode” of sorts in the base game. The back legs are spring like and adapted for jumping and quick manoeuvres. They have a streamlined head shape to allow for this movement, but their dew claws are also adapted into a hook like shape to improve grip on poles and ledges. They have a balljoint in the front legs to improve with this as it gives a fuller range of motion. They also have more omnivorous teeth, with molars, carnassials and incisors! They are fitted with big ears for good hearing, whiskers to measure spaces, and reflective eyes to improve with vision in the dark due to many areas being underground. Ontop of this they have a strong prehensile tail to allow for easier escape from predators.
some little things I added for sillies are the claw marks on the back and neck along with a bite mark where they would have gotten away from a lizard :3
MONK:
Monk has similar base adaptations like the other slugcats such as the spring legs and good vision :3 But their nose is incredibly pointy, forcing the teeth into a more rodent like shape which aided in consumption of fruit but not excluding meats. They are also more streamlined than survivor, smaller and with shorter legs; their ball joints in the lower arms are stiffened for strength and their dew claw is similar to that of a cat’s. These factors are all to help improve running speed, and allows for monk to escape into smaller areas more effectively, they are less able to pick and choose fights like survivor but they aren’t incapable of killing.
My version of monk doesn’t have any visible scars to push the fact that they are adapted to opt for escaping rather than fighting :D
HUNTER:
I ran out of red ink on the red slugcat, typical, hehe :3 Hunter has adapted for physical strength to improve success when, well, hunting! I had to take note that hunter does fight with spears rather than claws and teeth, so I noted that they wouldn’t be too drastic from the other slug cats, but still a lot stronger. So i gave them a more robust jaw for improved biteforce because fuck that apparently, as well as very ancient canines like that of thyacoleo to emphasise a meat based diet. Furthermore the dew claw is adapted into more of a proto-thumb than the others to aid in object handling, such as spears and debris. I say proto-thumb as it isn’t a fully formed opposable thumb, but more acts as something for the object being throw to lie on, improving accuracy and damage! The tail isn’t as prehensile as hunter’s body doesn’t need to rely on climbing to escape due to improved offensive adaptations. They don’t have whiskers due to their larger size, but have an improved sense of smell to track prey more effectively as they are a solitary predator.
My hunter has the infection around their back area like usual, but also has scars under their chin and the tip of the tail has been bit off from a vulture attack, where as the eye scar i believe came from a scavenger attack in cannon? But i could be wrong. I chose a vulture as they are the apex predator in most regions, and would make more sense them giving hunter the extra scars rather that a more secondary based predator such as lizards (like with survivor). The ears have also been affected, but thats up to you whether you think it’s infection or scaring, I can’t decide :3
Hope you guys like my headcannons, i love making adaptations for things its fun :3 reminds me a little of all tomorrows (but obviously nowhere near that scale lmao)
