Agere community we need to talk.
[Text ID: Agere community we need to talk. End ID]
I have noticed a huge rise in UNCREDITED and STOLEN works; it being art, edits, collages etc
Specially reposts on Tumblr and Pinterest
Examples:
*Original artists that had their work stolen: @regressionworldz and @cutiecorner
This post is a guide about internet etiquette and crediting
[Text ID: This post is a guide about internet etiquette and crediting. End ID]
1. How to NOT steal stuff!
Any work with the tag “Free to use” (also known as “F2U”) means that they are allowed to be reposted, used in collages, edits etc. Just check if credits are needed!
*Important addition (that I can’t believe I had to add):
* “Why does this matter?” “Can’t you just ask where they got it from?”
It’s a question of politeness and fairness, yes, someone can ask where that piece is from but it’s not a guaranteed answer, people can lie and people can forget!
Also, people might see it and take it at face value, think the post belongs to that person when it doesn’t
Adding to that, there’s folks that do not want their work reposted for many reasons!
To top it off, heres the issue of the original creators not getting the attention they deserve, imagine that you spent hours on a piece just for it to be stolen and that post getting more attention then your own original post, that one you worked hours for it to, to be just the way you wanted it to be, that would upset you wouldn’t it?
Overall, crediting and asking to repost is just the polite thing to do
For Artworks:
Your first need to check if the artist allows reposting of their work or the use of them for collages, if they allow, then you link to their original post and state who drew the pics of art
For GIF’s + non-product photos:
Credit to the original post! Or at least as far back as you can find it!
Usually photos of products such as toys, plushies, accessories etc made by big brands are easy to spot and know where they came from (ex: blogs that post PNG’s usually don’t need to credit all their sources), but, small business/hand crafted works should always be credited!
Reposting moodboards:
Similar to artworks, first ask permission to repost, if allowed link to the original creator!
“But they said “no”!”:
Then don’t do it! Even with credits! Don’t do it! Is as simple as that! Respect others right to say no!
2. How do I identify stolen work?
There are many giveaways of stolen posts, such as:
• Low photo quality
• Watermarks that don’t match
• Lack of information about what was made (for who it was etc)
• Unable to answer simple questions such as what brush they used or long it took
Examples:
3. What do i do if my work was stolen?
1. Inform the person that it’s your work and to either remove it or credit them
2. If it’s still not credited or taken down, report their post
3. If the report didn’t go anywhere or if the account is still doing it to yours and others content, please make an awareness post about it. Strength comes in numbers after all!
4. Overall…
Let’s stop with this unpleasant and rude act of stealing others work!
I really hate to see that on our community, please, inform more people about it and report any acc that profits of others uncredited/stolen content!

Regarding scans and watermarks
Yesterday, a SxF clear file scan made by my friend @xxscarletxrosexx (who had allowed me to share the scan on my blog here) was reposted on Twitter with her watermark clearly removed. She wrote an insightful post about how, despite what many people think, it does take a good amount of work to obtain and scan rare collectibles like this. As someone who makes a lot of scans with watermarks, I want to offer my thoughts on the topic.
For those who have followed me since my blog started, you may have noticed that my watermarks have "evolved" over time. This was in response to, of course, my scans getting reposted without credit (my old watermarks were easy to crop/edit out). I know some people take issue with putting watermarks on official art because we technically didn't "create" it. But that doesn't mean time and effort wasn't put into making the scan. To me, it's similar to people who take photos of exclusive events or people who make gifs...while they didn't create the subjects of these things, they still created the presentation of it. For people who take and share exclusive photos, they spent time, effort, and money not just on going to that location and taking the photos, but posting them in a presentable way online for others to enjoy. For people who make gifs, it again takes a lot of time and effort to create, edit, and present the gifs in an attractive way on social media. In both these cases, while these people didn't draw, animate, design, etc, the subject of their photos or gifs, there was still self-imposed work and creative effort behind it, which I think deserves some recognition. It's the same with making scans...I didn't personally draw the images I scan (and I make this clear by including "scanned by..." in my watermarks) but I still made the presentation of it - the scan - which does take time and effort; I bought a Canon TS6300 scanner a while back particularly for this purpose, I often have to finagle with the books I scan to make sure they're properly flattened so the scans aren't blurry or crooked (have to redo them sometimes when this happens), and if little pieces of lint or other blemishes get in the scanner, I either have to scan them again or use photo editing software to fix them. And while I paid for all the books, posters, etc, I scan with my own money, sometimes just obtaining certain rare collectibles not only takes money, but a lot of dedication to obtain! The Twiyor chara fine graph I recently posted about is a perfect example of how much work can go into acquiring a rare item...and I have no obligation to scan the merch I get. I could just enjoy them on my own and only share quick, low-quality photos from my phone. But I like making scans because I know other people enjoy them 🙂 I also know that many people don't have the means or funds to get this kind of merch, so it's nice to let them have enjoyment from it second-hand through my scans! Sometimes I buy merch only or mostly for the purpose of making scans because I know that artwork isn't currently available in an official artbook or anywhere else.
Since I make so many scans, I just accept the fact that they will get reposted without any mention of me or my blog...which I don't mind that much since that's what the watermarks are for - they're to show people who see the scan where it came from, and if they choose to go to that site, they'll be able to find even more scans to enjoy! But if someone actually removes a watermark, it's like they so adamantly believe that the person who made the scan doesn't deserve any recognition for their time, effort, money, etc, put into it that they're going to spend their own time to remove any trace of that person from the scan...I mean, I can't say it's the most heinous act in the world, but it's disrespectful and just plain not nice. I try not to let it bother me, but it is hurtful to see someone else get recognition for something you put work into. But I just keep things in perspective and tell myself that at least I'm not an artist whose creations are getting posted all over the place without credit (I always cringe at all the uncredited fan art I see on Facebook groups and YouTube music compilations. It's so out of control 😔)
Anyway, I hope I've properly illustrated here that it does take a good amount of time and effort to make scans. I don't think I deserve as much recognition for it as an artist who actually draws the images they post, but I still think this kind of content sharing deserves some credit, even if it's just leaving a watermark intact.

Hello ☆ I was wondering if you have any advice for any artists who want to start creating fanart but are afraid to deal with the unfortunate circumstances that artists deal with on the internet? ): (theft, tracing, unauthorized sales, etc.). I know that's something thats inevitably gonna happen and that almost every creator is gonna have to deal with, especially within bigger fandoms, like CoD.
I'm not a very confrontational person to begin with which most likely doesn't help, but I really really really want to share my CoD fanart but seeing how shit the fandom treats artists, on all platforms, it's very discouraging ://
Hi there! I wasn't really sure how to answer this because truthfully--I still haven't found an effective way to combat all of the negative aspects you're referring to. Unfortunately, this is probably the most..ah...immature fandom I've been in, so there is a fair deal of nonsense occurring regularly, lol. Artwork is seen as 'content' which is meant to cater to any random person's wants and needs. As such, the average 19 y.o. tiktok user is just going to see a hot guy and repost it on their page with terrible techno music, regardless of whether you've put a watermark on your work or not. I can't say it isn't extremely frustrating, but personally, the main point is for me to create all of my artwork for *me* first and foremost. Don't get me wrong--I do enjoy getting to share my stuff in this community, and I've gotten some lovely responses more often than not. But I think it's better for you to focus on why you want to create something in the first place, rather than the anticipation of others' responses. It's awfully disheartening for a lot of artists to see their work stolen, and even worse, monetized without their consent. I do think a lot of that only happens when you've reached a certain status (ie. I only started getting reposted and harassed when I gained more popularity in this fandom) so I think if you start out small, you may be left unbothered, at least for a bit. I wish I could be more encouraging, but the reality is that the current online landscape for artists is a bit bleak. It's not even just the art theft and AI elements--more and more creators are under attack for the most inconsequential issues, and it's all a part of this ongoing fandom trend to weaponize morality, but I digress... One positive is that, for the most part, other artists will look out for each other, so if your stuff is being stolen, there's a shared response of retaliation, and I think you'll find most people are on your side. My best advice for this situation is: just post your stuff and see what happens. I'd say that the majority of people will enjoy and interact accordingly, and if you're met with any instance of theft/tracing/harassment, you can report the offenders wherever applicable. Don't let the negativity discourage you from creating what you want <3
#asks#wombat words of wisdom#tbh... cod fandom may not be the best to even get into if you can help it#I'd say find a few weirdos who appreciate the same aspects you do and just...ignore the majority 💀

So your watermark says to “not reblog”, and I’m new and in love with you and very afraid to offend and I’ve noticed a lot of artists have different desires for types of attention so like,,,to confirm, for you, you only want comments and likes right?
Nope, I think you might have gotten words mixed up. My watermark says not to repost, not 'not to reblog'
Rebloggin artist work is greatly appreciated and wonderful if you do. Reposting artwork is a no-go.
Reblogging = using the reblog feature to put that post/artwork on your blog while the post links back to og artists. If you're from twitter, its bascially the same as retweeting something, it remains the op's post but you share it, which artists love!
Reposting = taking the artwork/image and posting it as your own post, which essentially removes any link back to the og artist's page. This is a no-go.
Edit: Also, the 'Do Not Repost' watermark helps prevent art theft, and cases where people would repost artwork that isn't theres to profit off of it (think of tiktok pages that just repost artist's comics without consent and make money off of it, even if they give credit it's still not consent unless they specificlaly asked to do so. Some people, in my own expereince, also tend to lie and say that they had permission when they didn't. The watermark helps prevent this)
#thinking about that time that tiktoker was reposting my stuff on their page and when confronted about it#they said that 'oh i talked to the artist they said it was fine'#and i replied to the comment like um no the fuck you didnt who even are you#take this shit down and stop lying lmao

Okay. Third time just this week seeing my own art reposted and/or seeing my friends’ art reposted. I guess some people need a do’s and don’ts of sharing art. I’m tired of seeing this.
Reposting looks like:
Posting artwork that you took off of Pinterest, or other social media without permission from the artist to do so.
Yes. Even if it has the artist’s watermark
Yes. Even if you have tagged the artist and/or linked to their external page.
Why Artists don’t like it:
We have our own accounts where we’re posting our art, and would like those posts to receive engagement.
We didn’t consent to our art being reposted.
You are not entitled to repost someone else’s art and get likes/reblogs/retweets whatever on art that you did not make.
Read that again.
What you can do instead:
Understand that the vast majority of art posted to Pinterest is stolen. If you like a piece of art you see there, You can do a reverse google image search to try and find the original artist, or search up the name listed on the watermark if there is one. This usually takes about max 5 minutes to find the correct source.
Reblog/retweet/etc the art directly from the artist’s account. This means that the engagement goes to the artist! Happy artist!! We’ll make more art!!
If the artist is not on the social media platform that you are, you can ask them if you can repost to yours with credit.
If they say yes, feel free to post away! Just mention that you are posting with permission and make sure you keep your receipts in case someone asks
If they say no, fear not! You can still enjoy the art and share it with your friends. Just DM your friends links to the artist’s post! That way they still get the engagement and remain happy artists, and you and your friends get to enjoy art.
Once more: even if art is posted with linked or @‘ed credit — if it was not reposted with permission, it harms the artist. Cut it out.

Hello!! I found some of your art on Pinterest so I went searching and I found your twitter which led me here! I reallllyyyy love your art!! It's so cute. Especially how you draw Shamura- They're just a little bean!!
I also adore your Redo AU! Especially how Narinder is getting babied by his siblings haha. Makes me wonder their reaction would be to Lambert (Who I feel so bad for. They did not deserve this, the poor bby)
First off I want to say thank you for liking my art work, it means the world to me that though I have left the cult of the lamb fandom behind (mostly) that my blog and the art I’ve made can still be enjoyed by fans new and old. Redo au is my baby, and I’m glad so many people enjoy it despite its lack luster writing haha…
I have struggled to answer this ask because I want to make it clear you aren’t the problem. But I also desperately need people to know.
The reason I left the cult of the lamb fandom, and for awhile tumblr as a whole, was because my art work was constantly being stolen and re uploaded despite my wishes. Even with credit. And the main culprit was Pinterest (though YouTube and Reddit didn’t help).
I want to say again that this person, or anyone who found me through Pinterest, is absolutely not the issue. I also understand that part of having popular art in fandom is that it’s inevitably going to get stolen. I understand that. But it’s just. It hurts. Every time.
I cannot describe to you the mood killer it is to scroll looking for fandom stuff and see your own art work flashed at you. No credit and sometimes your watermark purposely removed. And the fact that it’s plastered on every page I have “please don’t repost my artwork even with credit” it feels like even more a punch to the gut. Because of those I considered even credited work stolen, because it deliberately goes against my wishes.
I know some people say “it doesn’t matter because you’re getting free exposure”. And they are right. This asker is exact proof of that. But! I post art work online for likes, comments, and reblogs. I know that might seem shallow but it’s true. I want to see people like my art, I want to see what people think about it. If I don’t I just keep it to myself or just show my friends which happens to be the majority of my work. Most of my stuff has never been posted publicly anywhere! And those likes and comments drive me, they make me want to create because people like my stuff! It makes me happy. And I can’t get that if someone steals it and takes it off site.
I left tumblr for a bit after discovering my entire tumblr had essentially been re-uploaded to Pinterest by a single user (most of the time it’s only a few of my most popular posts taken). Credit removed. I doom scrolled it for hours. I had to stop when I saw someone commented on my artwork saying “I love this art but who’s the artist, I can’t seem to find them anywhere?” I don’t know. It hurt.
I joined in stars and time fandom hesitantly, and after scrolling on YouTube got recommended a video that had my art work stolen in it. Not credit. And I’m heart broken. Maybe this shouldn’t hurt me so much. But it does.
#meat talks#vent#again asker thank you for your kind words#you seem wonderful#i hope me using your ask as a jumping off point doesn’t startle you#i just needed to get this off my chest

can't believe I have to bring this back again.
after being noticed by some pals on the server, apparently my Brewing Romance fanart i did a while back has been reposted on pinterest. Same thing happened to some other peoples art as well.
the watermark is still there, and it freaking baffles me that they didnt even tried to delete it or anything so ITS RIGHT THERE FOR PEOPLE TO READ IT. then again they probably dont give a damn so why do i get surprised-
anyway
DON'T REPOST MY ART. ANYWHERE.
i dont care if you think its cool, or even worse if you just want to steal it to get followers.
Remember i only post on tumblr, and if anyone wants to follow me for other artwork i do, IM JUST ON THIS SITE. AND HAVE ONLY THIS BLOG.
dont follow other peeps in other websites that have my artwork and reposted it.
thank you

PROOF OF RECRUITMENT (TF2 Pyro)
DO NOT REPOST / EDIT / TRACE / MONETIZE MY ART FROM OTHER SITES.
Author’s comment:
Woah, I've played TF2 (Team Fortress 2) for a year now! How the time passes, feels like a yesterday I've been hanging around with this fantastic community and creators! I kept my mercenary badge to prove where I got my joined date, even my first gibus hat and pyrovision! So, how did I joined this 16 1/2 year old FPS war-hat simulator? Well... I'd wish to make something related on my doodle but... I'm afraid, I have burned out doing big pieces or studies. I'll tell you a story in another time, I promise. :) This doodle is my main cosmetic for Pyro! I love playing them as a combo loadout, using Degreaser + Flarefun is so much fun to get CRIT AND AIM! Despite reaching my 1k hours and still rookie, I get beaten up by highly skilled veteran players, the bot waves and cheaters lurking around, the bad eggs of TF2's fandoms and players, the negligence of Valve's silence actions; I still play and having fun while I keep investing niche skills. I've experience this before when it comes Hollow Knight's Silksong, 6 (SIX) years of development without news or update, I cannot imagine how much longer they think. It feels eternity in there. Let's hope that we can wait a little bit longer and closer as we believe. But it feels so farther away, you know? I missed my chance with TF2's golden age of 2011~2018....
Author’s note:
DO NOT start a roleplay using direct messages/comments & replies with my artworks.
DO NOT add your playful or direct rudeness to my posts such as replies, comments, hidden tags and private messages.
DO NOT tag and marked as a kin/me/morally questionable content etc. Aesthetic or Inspiration tag is good enough.
DO NOT claim my artworks belong to you, and removing / cropping my watermarks away.
DO NOT sell my art for monetary profit.
DO NOT SUBMIT ANY CRYPTOCURRENCY/NFT ART AND A.I. IMAGE GENERATOR WITH MY COMMISSIONED / PERSONAL ARTWORK.
DO NOT dub my artwork / comics, especially A.I. voicework.

If I were to start a Patreon, I would put a watermark saying "If you see this outside of Patreon, report it. This is stolen artwork."
There's an artist I follow on Twitter that had the same thing happen to him with Patreon posts being posted on Instagram and the person who stole the work only put 'ctto' and not even his handle. It's so easy to trace art back to the original artist especially if you have a super original art style.
My artwork is watermarked and states beneath the watermark that it should not be reposted. If it does end up reposted, it can still be traced back to me! But we all know that no amount of watermarks and warnings will stop reposters because reposters don't read. In this case, I think there's a bot involved and I've reported it to Patreon. It's not just my art on this site, and I'm not nearly big enough an artist for anyone to go out of their way to pick me out, it looks like an entire site aimed at making patreon/substar content public!

Just a reminder, if you're reposting artwork without the artist's permission AND without crediting them, you're an asshole.
"Oh but it's just cool fanart I found on Pinterest and I want to share it on Tumblr so more people can see it-"
Chances are 99% if it's on Pinterest it's also been reposted without permission from someplace like Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, or DeviantArt. If you actually want to support the creator, go find their social account, give em a like and reblog, retweet, what have you. Start by looking for a watermark or @ to trace it back to. If that doesn't work, Google Image search is your friend. Reposts without credit do jack shit for the artist because now people don't know who actually made it.
"Oh but I want to comment on it and I-"
You can comment on the art!! You don't have to make your own post to comment on it!! Whether it's an incoherent keysmash or a long winded paragraph or 'okay but like imagine if this happened in canon and-" or what have you, artists will love getting a comment on their work. You know what they won't love? Seeing that someone took their art and posted it on their own account.
"But I'm not even claiming it's my own art and-"
You're still reposting someone else's work and not giving credit where credit is due. People can very easily assume it's you who made the work, unless you make it clear it's not yours by crediting the artist.
"Oh but I got their permission to and-"
You got their permission? Great! Just credit them. Leave an @ to whatever social they originally posted it on. Encourage people to see their other work. At the absolute bare minimum, leave an @ for people to find them.
"But-"
There are so many other reasons but I don't have the time (or energy!) to share them.
I don't care what your excuse is.
Don't repost artist's artwork without their permission and without their credit.
#artists on tumblr#art#tumblr#pinterest#I just saw someone do this and add their own commentary underneath#Holy hell I'm pissed off.#Luckily the artist's watermark was there.#but i'm still pissed off.

you must respect my TOU if you want to use my gfx !
&. YOU MUST CREDIT ME. it can be anywhere on your blog. this includes in tags, in blog descriptions, in a pinned post somewhere, linked or unlinked (@antegfx , @/antegfx , or #graphic by antegfx). i appreciate it. &. YOU CANNOT EDIT MY GFX. i spend loooots of time on everything i make, and i don't want them messed with. if you want something in a specific color scheme, try asking me. i might still have the file to edit again for you. &. YOU CANNOT REPOST MY GFX. everything i make is watermarked. i will know. even if you edit / crop it out. i will find out and personally sling you into the sun. respect my boundaries && don't repost my stuff. (this does not include using graphics in carrd or rentry. i'm talking pinterest &c.) &. YOU CANNOT SELL MY GFX. it sounds like an insane rule to include but fandom-related artwork & designs get snatched & sold as merch (like stickers) on sites like redbubble. if you do this, you are not only stealing my gfx but also stealing from other creators (fonts, textures, psds, templates, &c.) as well as selling artwork that isn't yours!! the original creators can and will sue you. my stuff is good for personal use but nothing beyond that. &. YOU MUST BE NICE TO ME (it's the law). don't spam me about requests, make demands, be generally rude, &c. get blocked!!!!! i take as long as i want on free requests :) && i will not fulfill all requests; i have the right to say no.
thank you for respecting my terms. 🩷

sending this to gif makers whose stuff i like: do you like putting a watermark on your gifs even if there's a possibility it gets cropped out anyway and then reposted 😭💀 the horror stories of reposting just discourage me from giffing. how have you dealt with this anxiety
my question but phrased better ➡️ if you're a music gif maker, how did you deal with the anxiety and decision to put OR not to put a watermark on your gifs even if there's a possibility it gets cropped out anyway and then reposted 😭💀 what helped you make your decision? sometimes we gif 🏴☠️ content so the material isn't ours in the first place, but it's the reposting/reclaiming (+ without crediting) when you barely get reblogs here that's annoying
first off: thanks for liking my gifs! even tho i dont make them anymore the answer’s gonna be long but bear with me
at this point, reposting is just an unfortunate outcome of the game. im not saying DONT make gifs but just be aware there’s going to be a chance that it’ll happen, especially if youre making content from something that’s trending
luckily the gifmaker community here understands your woes and will support you. if you ever do find yourself getting reposted, let people know! make a callout post! link your gifs so people will reblog the right one!
now, there’s no right way of watermarking. ive seen big artists place their watermark front and center, censor parts of their artwork, and even going far as to linking to their patreon for the full pic. i put my watermarks usually along the artwork where it fits best w/o obstructing the overall piece
also, i dont make watermark all my gifs. my reasoning is that if im only making gifs that copy+paste the media, even if i change it with my coloring, its still recognizable enough for people to know that it’s not mine. HOWEVER, if i add something to it or borrow that content to make it my own (i.e adding overlays, making motion graphic posters with it, basically anything that shows it’s an original piece and not just a giffed scene) then i add my watermark. if it’s something i add to my professional portfolio then yeah all the more reason to put a watermark on it.
yes there’s still a risk of someone cropping it out and reposting it. but at least when i make a post abt it, i can point out ‘hey this fucker removed my watermark look at the upload date and the shitty cropping’. idk if tumblr’s gotten better at suspending reposters (prolly not) but i can report someone and have substantial evidence. worst case scenario, i can sue them for copyright infringement since my watermark is a copyright its not but they dont know that
im at the point in my life where i luckily dont get discouraged from the lack of reblogs. im happy with just a comment saying my stuff looks cool and most of the time, creating gifs is a learning process for me so the reblogs and likes are just a small fraction of the motivation. just dont let the lazy ass fucks stop you from creating gifs and enjoying your hobby. i think thats what matters the most at the end of the day.

Questions
Why haven't you been posting your artwork recently?
I don't know what im doing. I don't know how to feel about anything anymore. There is so much getting to me right now and will probably be for a while like hell.. election day, project 2025, Palestine, work, shopping, harsher weather, numerous holiday arrivals, and so much more. My brain has been in a slump or like this great heavy fog. I feel like I'm just trying to survive now at this point. My creativity is dimming more day by day. There's barely any motivation in any of my fandoms. I reblog and admire, but it's a battle upon myself, it seems. I really hope something good happens. I want things to turn out alright soon for everyone, or at least someone who really needs it. 10/30
Platforms currently?...
Tumblr
Ofthedarkwoods :random shit all the time basically main blog
OfthedarkwoodsArtwork :Multi-fandom artwork and content
Pinterest
Ofthedarkwoods :filled w/ lots of references, art challenges, brushes, and more.
Ofthedarkwoodsfashion :different themed oufits perfect for ocs or going out.
Twitter
I deleted Twitter I cant be supporting the first lady now can I.. so yeah Fuck Twitter I'm gonna see if I can find something better. Let me know what works best.
----------------------------------
Is rebloginging your art okay?
Yes of course reblog away! The more reblogs the better!
Are you okay with me uploading your art to other platforms?
As long as you keep the watermark & give name credits i dont mind, maybe even a link so others can find me and enjoy my artwork as much as you do. If I see on any platforms where no name credit is given (watermark deleted.. ect.) I will get it taken down, so please be respectful. Also remember not every artist is like this so always find the creator and ask no matter how long it takes or how little research there is. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother posting any artwork.
Also for mature content like nsfw & gore I beg of you to put warnings. If you can't put warnings then dont bother rebloging or reposting at all. My content is not made for everyone and any mature +18 content without warning will be taken down forcefully. Anyone who sees my artwork being shared without warning let me know please.
Is dubbing your art ok?
Yes that is fine although I would still love to hear you ask so I can research your account, find out more about you, and maybe even like and support you as well. Just remember to give name credit please.
What mature content are we talking?
I wish to post more content like gore and consensual type themes in the future for other adults to enjoy. I have been experimenting with my artwork and seem to have found myself drawn to it quite literally. I have been observing pastel gore and just love it. All this type of art will have warnings and if anyone reposts this should have warnings as well or else.
OH! Please note I WILL NEVER POST ANY INCE$T, PEDØ, CØMSHIP/PRØSHIP TYPE STUFF SO FUCK OFF!
Why are you interested in drawing gore?
What can I say.. well, when I was younger, I had surgery and was always afraid of my scars opening up. It wasn't until recently I decided that my scars were something to not be afraid of and that it was all in my head, I started seeing the beauty in candy/neon/pastel/fruit gore. I saw it all in a different perspective and that other people must feel this was too. I want people who want to see it to feel the beauty and comfort like I do. I thought as though I'm reclaiming it for myself instead of being afraid but to embrace it.
I'm a minor under 18 how do you feel about that?
I'm gonna be forward and say i dont feel comfortable with minors on my page. I'm an adult I talk about mature topics and will be posting mature content (w/ warning of course). Yes I know I cant fully stop you from seeing my posts especially on other platforms but if you message me or ask any questions I will ignore/block you. The internet is a fucked up place and I truely wish more adults would take topics like this seriously. I really care about each and everyones safety so I will take measures into my own hands if i have to. I really dont want to be friends with childern so please respect my wishes and leave me alone.
Are you open to commissions?
Unfortunately no. I'm still figuring out some things at the moment but I will take suggestions for any lgbtqia+ icons to have as a pfp. I mean starting a business is tough and I want to take my time with my art on my own terms, I'm still a part time artist and on top of that I procrastinate a lot so deadlines are exhausting.
How do you feel about Spammimg?
If we're talking about DMs I honestly wouldn't really perfer a ton of text messages to reply to however you're welcome to hit the like button as much as you like. It shows your appreciation and I know what its like finding an artist with cool artwork to enjoy. Comments are fine but I dont think I can respond to every single one.
Are you trans?
Yes probably non-binary specifically with they/them pronouns because I feel like the "given" binary spectrum and "gender roles" don't really suit me. I mean most days I feel "feminine", some days I feel "masculine", and some days I wake up feeling neither, or sometimes I wake up feeling both. Gender is very confusing so for short I'm nonbinary.
Why did you quit Instagram?
Animation is one of the hardest things I've pushed myself to do. Instagram's platform wasn't necessarily fitting to my standards per say. My technology kept failing as well and made it difficult to keep a steady rhythm with posting. But also in other words I felt many users wouldn't accept my artwork as much as they'd accept my videos. I also felt that many Instagram users didn't see me as non-binary meaning many didn't use my pronouns correctly. I felt like all this together was enough to push me away. Tumblr felt more freeing than Instagram and so far its been more enjoyable, but none the less I made friends and will miss them dearly.
Will you do anymore Animation?
Yes i do animaton but wish to expand more on that later... right now it's just artwork and edits. I've thought about posting to YouTube but idk..
Why are you so political?
I think everyone is affected by politics all over the world. It's a part of our society, and I do have morals so of course I'll be evolved. Like already most of the world is against me for their own selfish insecurities and I realize that I have some privilege of my own and should stand up for others when they are faced with unjustifiable terms. I get that people need breaks and yes please take breaks and take care of you basic needs but without ever talking about any issues, wintnessing but keeping to yourself, or simply not teaching and discussing your feelings with others can lead to serious problems or issues that will never be fixed. There is always a time to bring up your concerns and make yourself feel heard but remember things like this take some time, communication on every side, and a good support group.
You are welcome to block, ignore, or mute me but I'll always keep posting important topics.

You said the key words : personal use. If you were making money out of it, it would be copyright infringement. But if you are printing it so you have a physical copy for yourself to put on your room wall for example, nobody could really do anything about it.
In the past, people have printed entire fics to safeguard and read for their personal consumption. Some even learn how to bind and make a book because they wanted a physical copy of their favorite fic. I don't see why it would be that different for artworks.
A lot of people download images they found on the Internet and put them in a folder on their desktop or phone. Again, for their personal use. Where it becomes an issue is when people repost said artwork either on the same site or a different site instead of sharing the original through "reblog" features.
If you really don't know, you could always ask the artist "Hey! I love your art so much, I would like to print it and put it on my wall to look everyday at it. Is it okay with you?" and respect and honor their response, especially if they say no.
Of course, that question might however be rude if the link to buy the art you love so much is available inside the publication.
Keep in mind that for prints, unless you have access to a 300dpi CMYK file, the image from the Internet will always be lower quality than an actual poster sold by the artist. On the web, the standard is 72dpi with RGB colors and will often be watermarked. Meaning that the image downloaded directly from the web might becomes pixelated if you try to enlarge it or the printed color won't be exactly the same than as on screen.
Mind you, my knowledge about printing vs web dates back from nearly 10 years and might be outdated because of the existence AI tools supposedly "enhancing" low quality images, but there is still a limit of how much AI can interpret in the loss of information due to compression.
Anyway, each artist is different. It is not because one artist has given you their authorization than another is comfortable with it.
If art is available to purchase and you can afford it, it's best to always buy their art. That will guarantee you to have the best print.
If the art is only available online, you can always ask the artist if it is okay to print it for yourself.
And whatever the case, if you love an artwork, at least reblog it to help promote the artist and their work.

Hi! I've found you on Tumblr and I'm extremely happy for that (a divine find!). I know your art from FA and I love your style.
The prompt suggests a question, so here's a small one. Do you enjoy much art outside of the one that's similar to yours?
Well, that's it. All good wishes. ^^
oh hell yes of course i do!!
when asked what my Favorite kind of art is my mind IMMEDIATELY goes to Northwest Coast art. ever since i was a kid i've been VERY obsessed with formline art and still very much so am.
[artist: trevor angus]
as a kid my first interaction with formline art was in the form of The Spirit of Haida Gwaii by Bill Reid - a sculpture formerly featured on the canadian 20 dollar note. there's a copy of it hanging out in the museum of national history and i really need to go back to appreciate it now that i'm not a kid with an obligation to stick with a tour group. i DID get to glimpse the Jade Canoe edition in the vancouver airport for a fleeting moment between late connections - needless to say i was very heartbroken that i couldn't stick around to appreciate its detail.
the thing i absolutely go feral for are orcas in formline art. nothing - i repeat - NOTHING can compare to the sheer grip this animal in this art style has on me. i do not really have words to explain it, how i came to love this or why, i am just very enthusiastic about orcas in this style and have been for as long as i can remember.
i have a tiny handful of pins and merch made by various Haisla, Namgis and Haida artists - though only a few artists offer orca art. i don't want to just impulse-buy whatever orca i can find [etsy for example is a hellhole of stolen / appropriated art and i ain't for it] so i'm just patiently waiting around until an artist from a pacific northwest community puts up an art piece for sale.
[artist: Cori Savard - this particular print is on my to-buy list i just need to save the coin for it hhhhh]
now, completely unrelated to formline art.
i am also a fan of The Voice of Fire by Barnett Newman; if only for the fact that the museum bought this piece for 1.8 million and then proceeded to display it in the most OMINOUSLY EMPTY ROOM THEY HAD IN THE WHOLE BUILDING. my love for this painting isn't necessarily in the painting itself, but the presentation. i have stood in this room. occasionally there are other sculptures in there, but for the most part it just lingers there, isolated, glaring at you.
if we're going more into fandom culture and independent artists online, while i cannot say I've a particular Art Idol, i am a huge fan of [for lack of a better word for it] the kemono art style. i don't want to go and repost other artist's work without permission here, or make this post Even Longer, so i'll just point you in the direction of a few artists that draw in the style i'm talking about. it's first thing in the morning and i'm just barely waking up so i'm only going to post a small handful
terenry / terenryrm
mochiri
ev-oo
moonagvaze
i have a character design by terenry so i can post him as an example since i own the oc now [this is the watermarked art i pulled from my Toyhouse. the watermark is there to deter oc / art thieves but the artwork itself is by terenry]
sorry this ended up being really long aAaAA don't get me started on my favorite art i will never shut up about it. i can and will ramble for Hours about it. to say art is a passion of mine is a criminal understatement.

feels like both of these responses miss the point of the question. i'm not aiming for anything sophisticated - im just thinking out loud here on no sleep and fumes - but it's definitely "more" ethical (if one can actually weight ethicality, which seems an absurd, pointless task) to create art yourself than it is to use an AI machine tool, which cannot "create" things itself and must forcibly use bodies of works of other artists to generate an image. it's still Making a Thing, if you wanna get all technical about it, but the usage of other works - largely without consent - to generate a prompt is less ethical than, say, putting together the production of Thriller, or being featured in a Nat. Geo. magazine.
and, yeah, nothing is original; not only do artists borrow from each other literally all the fucking time, but can we say that ai generation is more ethical than making a collage, or sampling a beat? is it more ethical than, say, the famous case of Ice, Ice, Baby and Under Pressure?
but i feel like we can come to the conclusion that it is... because you're not stealing something just to steal it. its hard to articulate, but the attitude of many AI-users is that generation lets them make art where they otherwise couldn't, and if nothing is original and remixes exist, then shouldn't it be fine? but the human aspect is that we all influence each other to be what we are, and make what we make. it carries a value of sentiment that a machine generating something just can't, not because the person generating the prompt doesn't have sentiment to express, but because (and this is artist bullshit speaking) you can't lay down the stroke, the paper, the pen, photoshop your way through memories and emotions and years of lived experience. it's fundamentally different, but seemingly only on a philosophical level, but that tends to matter quite a lot when it comes to discussing the inherent value of art and the nature of making art. it's not a good argument, and certainly smarter people have said it better than i have, but it's my personal train of thought, i guess.
it's ethical to be a CGI artist and photographer because it's ethical to be an artist. the whole thing about CGI and photography replacing jobs (which isn't true for photography, even, considering it did not kill the industry of illustration as a whole) isn't the fault of CGI and photography existing as mediums and career paths, but the fault of the capitalistic societies under which the workers of those fields have their labor exploited. it's not the CGI artists fault if they are overworked to death because a giant movie studio opted to cut costs by draining their life instead of a makeup artist's, and it doesn't make being a CGI artist unethical, same for photography.
also... re: search engines/social media: 1. search engines, like google, don't just randomly show you an image, and neither do social media websites; in nearly all cases, whether it be by keyword or tag, the original source is often still attached; 2. it's common etiquette in several online spaces to provide images with credit, and even sites like 4chan come with reverse image search tools built in; 3. reverse image search exists; 4. you're reading text for free and looking at posts but those posts, you may notice, carry the original poster's blog title/username at the top. artwork has watermarks. artists also usually post things they get paid to draw/write/make/etc (or are otherwise earning money from in some way - not saying ppl dont post things for free, they do, but i mean cases where people are posting things in a seemingly accessible "free" way but they still expect to earn revenue for it/have been paid for their work already). and artists were already losing money before AI by having people repost their work onto sites like pinterest with no credit (a company interested in your work may see your work on other sites, but not know how to contact you if credit/watermarks/etc have been erased, edited out, or otherwise aren't included). actively contributing to making artists poorer is... not... the gotcha you think it is...? kinda just makes you sound like an asshole. "looking at stuff in a way that costs the person who made it their due" is usually regarded as an asshole move, no matter how you slice it.
Okay, ai art is art, agreed. Sure. How ethical is it to use and promote a tool that not only is being used to replace human artist but also has a considerate negative impact on the environment?
is it ethical to be a CGI artist? (replaced other jobs, environmental impact). is it ethical to be a photographer? (replaced other jobs, environmental impact)
#long post#But i am not a philosopher.#I am just someone who likes to dabble in art from time to time#my ego is huge and my brain is small. pay me no mind. i have nothing solid to say#i just needed to write this down#to think and process#ai art
