#my argonian boy is the dragonborn in this universe

Getting into an artblock, so i'm finishing old sketches to try and get those creative juices flowing again. Here are some of my favorite OC's from Skyrim. They hate eachother.

*puts head in hands* Tell me all about them!

EEEEEE I'm glad someone wants to hear about them!!!! Well, they aren't necessarily new, but I haven't talked about most of them here for the most part so they are to most of you :D

Also, little disclaimer, I'm the type to make a whole cast (family, friends, distant cousins, etc.) for like every character I make, so I'll just introduce the major ones.

(also I'll put it under the cut to not clog dashes)

Morrowind

Stellar (Nerevarine)

My Nerevarine. Argonian. 19 years old at the time of the game. Was hatched and grew up in slavery in eastern Vvardenfell before escaping and running away to Cyrodiil when he was about 11 (where he eventually got his name, and tried his best to assimilate and lose his Morrowind-isms). There he settled in a little gang of thieves in the Imperial City, where he eventually went to jail (long term) after he accidently killed a guy. From there he gets sent to Vvardenfell and [PLOT OF MORROWIND]. For obvious reasons he is not happy about that, and only goes along with Caius's schemes so he can get the money to go to Black Marsh. He has the classic teenage boy-ism of acting very hard, aggressive, apathetic, and mean to mask a more genuine curiosity, desire for adventure, and care for others. So while he'd never admit it, he gets very invested in all the mystery around the Nerevarine prophecies. When he eventually does get to Black Marsh, he finds himself equally not welcomed there, and instead accepts his place as the (potential) Nerevarine, returning to Vvardenfell.

I think he's the only character that I've ever gone through a proper deign process with so I'm very proud of his design (even though I'm still struggling to draw it accurately).

Ramshuribani (Stellar's friend/love interest)

22 year old Ashlander of the Urshilaku tribe/Nerevarine Cult. She specializes in textiles, leather working, and making clothing. After Stellar arrives at the tribe and starts hanging around to earn their good graces, she's the first to take an interest in him. She finds his seeming delusions and his earnestness endearing, but eventually becomes the first to take him seriously, becoming his biggest cheerleader and urging him forward in his journey. When Stellar goes around trying to become the Nerevarine and Hortator, she tags along with him and they bond.

Moss/Sleeps-in-Moss (Stellar's friend/love interest)

One of Stellar's childhood friends. 18 year old argonian. As a young teen when he had the chance to flee to Black Marsh, he decided to remain in Vvardenfell and work with the Twin Lamps to help others escape slavery. While at first thrilled to run back into Stellar and learn he was ok, he's put off and frustrated by Stellar essentially being a pawn of the Empire and Ashlanders, and thinks all the Nerevarine bs is just a way to manipulate him.

Skyrim

Elisere Vaelenwyn Faerendal (Last Dragonborn)

21 year old altmer with snow elf ancestry on her mother and grandmother's sides (thus her pale complexion). While most of her family doesn't share her zeal, her and her grandmother are both very passionate about learning and trying to connect with the snow elf history and culture. Her grandmother is a researcher on the topic. She has a very intense personality, but is also sort of a prissy asshole.

So I really like the interpretation of being dragonborn being a sort of allegory for neurodivergence (but more specifically autism/adhd because I have experience with the former) and so I lean into it a lot with her. She struggled a lot growing up and into adulthood with always feeling like she needed to be in complete control/order, black and white thinking, poor socialization skills, and general anger and violence issues. While she tried to pursue an education focusing on destruction magic at a prestigious university, she struggled with control of her magic and felt restricted there. All of this, living in a place with heavy thalmor propaganda, and her passion for the snow elves led to her developing very extreme xenophobic views of humans (particularly nords).

When Elisere's mother and grandmother died in very close proximity to each other, El doesn't really know how to deal with it (losing her family and the two people she felt like she had left of her lost culture) and so she decided to go scorched earth and drops her whole life and head to Skyrim to do... something drastic (she didn't think that far ahead). Once arriving there [SKYRIM INTRO] happens and it slaps a bit of sense into her. Irregardless, she decides to stay in Skyrim. While in Skyrim, over time, she realizes 1) she's dragonborn (worst thing that could happen to her ever), and 2) it might be a better cultural landscape for her. Character development happens (I'm leaving it here for now bc I'm tired and I don't want to seem like I'm rambling, but she's my problematic child whom i love)

Helga Saber-Skin (Eliere's companion? adopted mom? friend??)

Nord woman in her late 60s. Looks at Elisere and goes "I can fix her" [motherly]. A very classic born-and-bred Nord; loud, confident, friendly, and proud. She and her late husband fought in the Great War, moving to Haafingar and raising 4 kids afterwards (I'm still foggy on that timeline though). Generally anti-Imperial and pro-Stormclaok (although willfully ignorant to the Stormcloak's less-noble beliefs), becoming very pro-Stormcloak after her husband was killed by an Imperial soldier and she feels pressured to move out to Eastmarch. As a widowed empty-nester, when she stumbles upon a very injured Elisere, she takes her in and upon hearing El vent, realizes that Elisere probably just needs a surrogate mother figure in her life, and eagerly tries to fill that void and support her while she's in Skyrim and on her journey. This is not something Elisere wants, but if Helga is anything it's stubborn (and it's probably something Elisere needs). They make each other more open minded.

Oblivion

Morvyn (Hero of Kvatch)

Mid to late 20s dunmer (they/she/he btw). Grew up in Ald'ruhn to a single abusive, unstable mother, which led to them running away as a teen and ending up Cyrodiil struggling to get by. They have intense anxiety from their upbringing, and struggle with psychologically-induced selective mutism. They almost never speak, and use sign-language to communicate (when they can. most people don't know it. this just contributes to their asociality and anxiety). They're sensitive, nervous, and a people pleaser, but also very resilient, selfless (to a self destructive degree),a nd empathetic. Their desire to help others is often the only thing to override their other issues. They are a jack-of-all-trades, master of none, and can pick up new skills pretty easily (but struggle to get very good at them). They initially bond with Martin through their shared experiences of being bastards. They're kinda greasy.

I have another major Oblivion character but she's real underdeveloped and needs more time in the oven. Too much brain power goes into morrowind and skyrim, sorry oblivion.

I've already talked about her before (this post) but I will mention her again. My necromancin' ecologist child :D. She kinda exists outside the realm of the games but she meets and becomes acquaintances/friends with Elisere and Stellar.

Okay, some random questions floating in my mind

How are people going to react if the BG3 crew refers to the Durge as a Drow instead of a Dunmer? In that same vein, are people (like Taliesin or Caryalind or Nebarra, for instance) going to be skeptical of Astarion when he says he's a high elf?

How are people going to process Karlach? The closest analog to a Teifling that shows up in Skyrim is a dremora, and I'm pretty sure people don't like those.

I'm mostly asking questions about races and stuff because I think the transition from "Tabaxi and Dragonborn" to "Khajiit and Argonian" would be really interesting to touch on.

Also the sheer differences between how magic works in the two universes. Do the (idk what to call them, tadfools?) Still have spell slots or are they transferred to Magicka? Stamina isn't really much of an element in DND as far as I know (unsure about BG3, still haven't played it), so do they feel tired more often as a result of suddenly entered a universe where fighting doesn't happen in 6-second bursts?

Also their reactions to all the different varieties of dragons too. The shock when Blood Dragons and up can spew both fire and ice, but none have any other breath weapons.

And I'm pretty sure food works differently too. Who's going to be carrying all the cheese?

Are the Daedric Princes going to be able to sense that these people aren't supposed to be there? Are they going to be nice to Partysnacks?

I have more questions, but they may come later.

The identities of the Faerûnians are mostly going to be a point of conversation among Team Dragonborn itself. It serves them better to try to blend into the population how they can when they’re on their adventure–so if someone wants to refer to Gale as an Imperial or Shadowheart as a Breton, there’s no point in correcting them.

Tav (Durge) WILL get a little tetchy about the general attitude towards Dunmer, though.

In terms of Team Dragonborn–which starts out as Tally, Lucien, and Auri–they’ll definitely get a lot of confusion and skepticism. But, well, since they just walked out of a crashed alien spaceship, I think it’s not too far of a leap to say they’re from another sphere altogether.

Karlach is going to have to hide! A lot. Dark hoods and everything, probably has to stay out of town in some situations, and the Vigilants of Stendarr are going to be a threat. It’ll get easier once Gale gets enough grasp on Tamrielic magic to cast Seeming.

This is actually going to show up most prevalently when they’re called Dragonborn. “I can’t believe it. You’re…Dragonborn!” “Excuse me? Do I LOOK like I have scales?”

So with this, I’m going to play kind of fast and loose with the rules of D&D combat vs Skyrim combat. 6-second bursts are less of a law everyone lives by and more of a way to break a battle down for tabletop. Karlach is still a raging barbarian, just picture her rushing at you like a Skyrim bandit would.

In terms of spell slots, that’s more interesting. Magic in D&D operates by utilizing the Weave, which is Mystra’s organized and dedicated magical fabric. Since Mystra has no influence over Tamriel, the Weave, also, wouldn’t exist.

However, magic does exist. And underneath the Weave, Toril has unorganized magic called Raw Magic. Gale needs to experiment quite a bit to get his spells to work how he wants them to, but essentially, Magicka is a refined, yet still unorganized, form of Raw Magic that steadily bleeds into Nirn. Once he gets a grasp on that, he’ll be able to utilize it properly (there was actually an event where Toril collided with another Weave-less world, and people in that world HAD to use Raw Magic to cast spells).

Tav, on the other hand, is a sorcerer. He IS magic. Magicka is going to come naturally to him, and he’ll be able to cast almost everything he could before. Of course, he doesn’t REMEMBER what he can do, so he’s not going to be super-powered right out of the gate.

Gale! Gale’s the camp cook, and he’s very protective of it. Sure, Tamriel might have different ingredients, but that doesn’t mean he can’t make a good meal of pan-fried slaughterfish with saltrice vinegar-based hundur sauce! He might even give some of the locals a taste for Waterdhavian cuisine.

Oh the Daedric Princes are going to be a problem. Particularly Mehrunes Dagon and Boethiah. Because there is only one lord of murder, and his blood loathes competition. Not to mention Shadowheart taking offense at Nocturnal encroaching on Lady Shar's territory.

Also, yes, absolutely, Partysnacks is going to be a friend. Lae'zel in particular looks up to him (though she thinks the Greybeards are a bunch of pacifistic cowards).

Who then became her boyfriend instead.

Okay here’s how Thistle Flower became Everyone but also specifically All My Characters and All The Trees.

I mean how she became a tree is easy, because all Argonians are tree-adjacent, the Hist needed some helpers with eyes and hands and the like and they grew in the swamp and what do swamps have a ton of that are easy to catch if you’re a tree? Lizards, apparently. Take the lizards, they drink the sap, their genetic code is rewritten and now they’re Argonians and they have everything that you need in a helper when you’re a sentient godlike tree who exists out of time. There’s an alternate Tamriel where Argonians are insects and I wish I were there because then I’d look less like a scaley and more like the freak I am.

(This is also why in the DS9 TES AU, the Bajorans are Argonian, the Prophets are Hist, the Dunmer are the Cardassians, Sisko is an Imperial Commander who discovered some big magic thing in Black Marsh and now runs a settlement around it, and everything else is off topic because I didn’t set out to talk about DS9 so much as everything I talk about eventually ends up either in TES or DS9 and it was inevitable that the streams would cross.)

ANYWAY

So yeah all Argonians are so intimately related to their Hist that they could be called part-tree. In fact, they do call themselves People of the Root and they mean that literally. Thistle Flower was even studying to be a treeminder before a roving pack of Daedra that some Dunmer sorcerer sicced on her tribe to take vengeance for their especially brutal resistance to the Dunmer during the Arnesian War. After that she swore that she would take vengeance against whoever did it and whoever enabled whoever was responsible and she went out and killed just a ton of people who might have done it before she was arrested and sent to the Imperial Prison as an extremely dangerous criminal who should be kept in maximum security lest she kill again.

Caius Cosades lost his shit when the Emperor sent him this Argonian who was known for killing a ton of Dunmer and Imperials to Morrowind to fulfil the Nerevarine prophecies because that sounded to him like a recipe for disaster. If people found out that the Blades were responsible for unleashing her onto Morrowind, assuming she didn’t do anything stupid and get herself killed, then that’s it for the last shred of legitimacy that the Empire has in Morrowind.

Anyway to literally everyone’s surprise it actually went pretty well and she came to sort of like the Dunmer. (Well, to care deeply about the Ashlanders and the Morag Tong and be able to mostly deal with everyone else.) She fulfilled the prophecies, saved the world, had a weird crush on Almalexia that may have been Nerevar and may have just been her being real gay and then it all ended with the Tribunal mostly dead.

But she knew that something terrible was coming and that for all of the Tribunal’s flaws, they were keeping some horrible things at bay and with them dead and dying, someone needed to take their place. That person was going to have to be her because she had the tools, she had the knowledge and she didn’t trust anyone else not to set themselves up as godkings the way ALMSIVI had and she told herself she wasn’t going to. The one missing ingredient was the Heart of Lorkhan, which she had to destroy or else Dagoth Ur would destroy Tamriel. It was fine. She only needed a little power. So she went off across the world to search. In this search she Zero Summed.

Now, you might have heard of CHIM, that state of enlightened lucid dreaming where you transcend the false world around you and in it, you can impose your will upon it. But if those who achieve CHIM look at the spokes of the wheel of the world and see themselves, those who Zero Sum look at the wheel and see that the whole world was them and lose their individuality to become part of it. Thistle Flower looked at the boundaries of reality and gazed through the other side of the monitor and saw me.

I first played Morrowind when I was about 12 years old. I made Thistle Flower when I was 13, since the save file I was using got corrupted and I had heard of “roleplaying” from forums that I was frankly too young to be on. She was almost the archetypical Mary Sue, at least for a young, isolated autistic kid who didn’t care for boys the way the other girls did and who found escape through this badass assassin who everyone loved and was afraid of who loved reading books about ancient civilizations and who traveled around looking at neat new critters. And as I grew up, I never let her go, she just grew with me. “Daemon Huntress”, the cool edgy sounding custom class I gave her became “Daedra Hunter” as I came up with a background for that that made any sense at all in the lore. She was never super gender conforming but she became less so as I became less so. I kept her close to my heart as I made other characters to play Morrowind the way she wouldn’t, like become a vampire or join a Great House or anything and those characters joined her in an increasingly elaborate little shared universe that only got bigger and more elaborate over the 17-some years I’ve been playing these dumb games.

And in that way, we recognized each other. That we were never really apart. That she’s a part of me, and as such, she’s a part of everything else I make. She had set out to stop the gates of Oblivion from opening and spilling into Nirn and when a Nord Battlemage with pretty boy good looks and memories that he didn’t realize were manifesting and changing over time was born in a prison cell, he went on to save the world, just the way she had hoped to do.

And so on and so forth. She fought Dragons as the Dragonborn, stood against Molag Bal eleven times and stood by him once, has been the Speaker of the Dark Brotherhood twice, once as a top young Dunmer girl who hated her for killing her family, another time as an Altmer deserter who just wanted to use the weapon they had made him into for himself instead of the people who used him, had fought on both sides of the Skyrim Civil War, has been everyone you have ever imagined and is now distributed in the very soul of the world.

The Hist remembers her and the Hist honors her. The People know that she is the root, for better or for worse. They’ve taken on some of her peculiarities: when the Argonians invaded Morrowind they made peace with the Ashlanders, they scoured Dwemer ruins in a meticulous way that a trained archaeologist would, they left key infrastructure intact and even rebuilt a number of cities before retreating back into the swamps, all because the Hist was subconsciously driving their Argonians towards that, and the Hist in turn were driven by Thistle Flower, who only wanted justice both for her people and her adopted homeland. It’s unclear to anyone whether or not the Hist know this has happened, since they’ve never been clear in ways that bipeds understand. But she shows up in the sap, and has always shown up in the sap, from the Dawn Era to the inevitable end of all things

That would be proto Meri. She was really the first that grew into an actual character.  She was also supposed to star in an Oblivionrewrite/webcomic/fanfic thing I drew like one page of years ago.

I like different ones for different reasons!  Arra’s dialogue and one-liners, Dreyns’swhole ark of getting old, Vitia’s philosophy, etc.  etc.

3. Have you ever adopted a character or gotten a character from someone else?

Nope.  And I’d neverconsider them mine.  I handcraft them andbake them one-of-a-kind each time.  Butmore seriously, the most I could take is an idea for a character, because Ialways like to twist things on their head and really make it my own.  I don’t enjoy writing NPCs for thisreason.  I can’t get in their head and myheadcanons get a bit much, so I’d rather just write for those I know.

5. “If you could make only one of your OCs popular/known, who would it be?”

I think that’s not really up to me.  I can’t decide who fans will latch onto.  I know who’s the most well-liked at thistime, but that’s no indicator of who would be well-loved by a much wideraudience.  I’ll leave this one to my fans!

I do my best to give everyone unique looks andclothing/color schemes, but!  There’sthree that got based on each other and aren’t the same but even I’m confusednow.  I’ll make a separate post to breakit down.

None of them exist outside of the Elder Scrolls universe,and I have yet to write fanfiction.

No.  Not give, nevergive.  But that doesn’t mean they can’tappear in your writing/meta/art, just that it’s a crossover, you don’t own themjust like I don’t own yours when I allude to them in RPs.  (Did I ever post that here?)

Veabris has a beautiful singing voice that would sound agood deal like Annie Lennox.  Actually,just listen to “Into the West” and you’re good to good.  But you’ll never hear it because Vea is superself-conscious and private about singing.

In world or OOC? That’s a really important distinction! But Veabris’s intentions are usually misinterpreted.

Where’s the growth?  They don’teven need to have “flaws” per se.  Whatif the “One True Hero to Save the World” is balled up on the floor crying tothemselves because they don’t think they’re strong enough?  Hot take over and it’s probably little kidDreyns.  (Which breaks hearts because hegrows up into something not pure.)
