WELCOME TO THE DUST BOWL! (a reboot of my au!)

Kaden and Mikal Reese, fraternal twins born five minutes apart, shared a unique bond forged in their tiny, old-style gas station, the Dust Bowl. Both sported brown hair and striking green eyes, but their similarities ended there. Kaden, with their hair dyed a vibrant purple and adorned with snake bite piercings, was the embodiment of a free spirit. A small star tattoo on the inside of their right wrist hinted at a love beyond the stars for a man they had yet to meet.

Kaden's exuberant personality was a sharp contrast to Mikal's reserved demeanor. Mikal, often exasperated by his sibling's antics, had a perpetual scowl that was frequently hidden beneath his unruly, messy hair. Freckles dotted both their faces, but only Mikal bore beauty marks that added an extra touch of distinction.

"Welcome to the Dust Bowl! Where we pretend Mikal isn't kneeling on milk crates behind the counter to make himself look taller!" Kaden announced with a broad grin, their eyes twinkling with mischief.

From behind the counter, Mikal groaned in minor annoyance. At 5'5", he shared the same height as Kaden but was perpetually teased for being the younger twin by a mere five minutes. His serious nature was often a stark contrast to Kaden’s happy-go-lucky attitude, though deep down, he harbored the same playfulness that defined his twin.

Their gas station was a haven for travelers seeking respite and a bit of entertainment. Kaden’s goofy and silly disposition, combined with Mikal’s more stoic, yet secretly playful nature, made the Dust Bowl a memorable stop for everyone who passed through.

simply goes by vel, he/him pronouns— though his appearance is more cutesy with his preference for those kind of clothes he is transmasc and only prefers being called masculine terms…!

he has demon horns and a heart shaped tail just because. he has an angel counterpart but the two don’t talk about each other so much

his role in f/o’s world is working with them under a partnership of sorts, handling the same workload as theirs. he doesn’t work as much as f/o though (who overworks themself at times due to the unhealthy relationship they have with their work)… when there’s not much for him to do he usually makes sure f/o is taking care of themself. which in a way made them grow a little more closer

but it’s funny actually because him and f/o disliked each other a lot at first (hate is such a strong word for this lol)… f/o sees him as a somewhat puzzling person, with the way he’s never honest in a way to hide his true feelings rather than having to hurt anybody. he means very well by doing so. these walls have grown around s/i due to previous relationships with people and the understanding that he’s come to that ‘that’s just how it is…’

he’s comfortable with talking for longer with the people he knows better, so you can truly see his personality shine when you get closer to him. otherwise, or at times he’s honestly just. quiet. with his habit of spacing out and daydreaming a whole lot.

Imagine you’re close to home with your f/o and the bus you two were on just stopped working, it is night there’s a slight rain and you two only have one umbrella. Your home is around twenty minutes away walking so you two decide to walk, how does that go? What do you two go? Just talk? Maybe hold hands and kiss, how close do you get to each other with the excuse of not wanting to get wet?

Of course I wrote something short about this happening and it is here:

“What do we do?” Cornelia asked as they got off the bus, the chauffeur asked all the passengers to get down with an apology saying the brakes hadn’t been working properly for the last twenty minutes and considering the remaining part of the route was down hill, it was better to not test luck. He had told the passengers two more buses were going to pass within the next ten minutes and they could board them without paying.

“Wanna walk?” Rene asked Cornelia, he knew Cornelia had just asked him a question but he didn’t know whether he wanted to walk or wait, he opened his umbrella and got closer to Cornelia so the two were covered from the rain, “I don’t really mind either option.”

It was night, it was raining but not as much as an hour ago, the walk home wasn’t long either, it would be less than half an hour most likely, “let me hold the umbrella,” he said, he was taller than Rene by a head, it was better for him to hold it otherwise Rene’s arm would get tired really fast having to have it over his head.

“All yours,” Rene said, he got closer to Cornelia once he didn’t have the umbrella any more, “this way neither of us will get wet,” he excused himself.

Cornelia gave him a small smile, “let’s walk,” he said.

They walked with Rene hugging Cornelia’s arm, the one he wasn’t using to hold the umbrella, Cornelia didn’t complain.

Maybe it was the rain or the hour but there wasn’t anyone on the streets, during the first half of their walk but as they got closer to their home and passed a park and a few small stores that were still open they were able to see maybe two or three people, “you know? I would have been pissed at having to get off the bus and walk if you weren’t with me,” Rene said once they were just steps away from home.

“You could have waited for the other bus.”

“I know, but I would have been pissed,” he replied as he looked for the key to open the door on his bag, “my life really is much better with you in it,” Rene added without looking at Cornelia and opening the door.

Cornelia was standing right behind him, the umbrella closed and on his side. He dropped the umbrella and hugged Rene tightly, “and it will continue like that because I won’t leave unless you force me.”

Rene moved one hand to touch Cornelia’s arm, “what kind of idiot would let you go.”
