also ive been thinking abt mx lately, i miss them. i thought it would be fun to ask you if you had any predictions for the inevitable comeback after the hiatus

I've been contemplating this for a few days

So first of all I rlly want jooheon to get a title track again, recently I've been listening to love and it's just so good. The only reason I'll accept for jooheon's song not being the title track is if it's from hyungwon or smth

Considering this comeback will happen in at least over a year, potentially while changkyun is away (crying and shaking), I'm thinking abt how they'd handle the rap parts. Bc obvs jooheon and changkyun are good on their own but they have SUCH good chemistry together. So I feel like what might happen is mx briefly pivots towards more...vocal-focused work, esp since shownu is back, and all the other vocalists will be back as well. And jooheon can sing so I think he might do smth like freedom where it's less rap and more vocals. I also think we might be getting a full length album bc we haven't had one in over 3 years. They might also do an eng album again

Since it'll be their first comeback in a while I think it'll be either bombastic (like rush hour but PLEASE no more cowboys......we've had so many cowboy concepts.....), or smth rlly classy like love killa. But mx have also done a classy concept w gambler and love and they'll probs be missing changkyun's tortured meow meow aesthetic so it's hard to predict where exactly they'll go w this. Smth I haven't rlly seen is shownu as a villain, I think he would do so well in that role. Since they already did a mafia concept and a rich guy conference concept they need to do smth diff. Maybe a classy modern fantasy concept, kinda like the forest scene from love me a little. Also it wouldn't be a mx comeback w o a car in there so of course that's inevitable (how does a car fit into a fantasy concept? They'll make it work)

the issue's already passed but i'm gonna give my 2 cents anyway.. i think the reason why a lot of groups can't cover love killa (and some other mx songs as well) that well is because the song was literally tailored for them. the composer said that when he was making the song he literally had monsta x in mind and it was his end goal to pitch it to them. this is opposed to composers and producers making a generic pop track and pitching it to as many agencies and groups as they can. plus the fact that jooheon and changkyun wrote their own raps, it's literally impossible to emulate their flow and the way they bounce their raps off of each other.

A collection of some of my favorite details in Minhyuk's vocal performances (studio & live) ♡

The Dreaming: all of this range but especially the gorgeous & fleeting lowest note One Day (No Limit Tour 2022 in Seoul): the one-note melody change in the final chorus (taking a higher note in the chord on 'I'm' — it's so good I'm devastated it's not in the studio version) Wildfire: the quick melisma on the 'in' of 'inside' thanks to a happy accident in the recording booth that became permanent Love Killa: all of this lovely melting tone in the bridge but especially the vibrato on the final note (we love thoughtful vibrato choices!) Beautiful Liar: the floating countermelody in the ending Rush Hour: that growl that only happens in certain performances Gambler: another (subtler) growl between 'calling me' that is unique to his interpretation (Kihyun doesn't do it in his earlier part) Gambler (It's Live, ft. Kihyun): because how could I not love him performing the upper harmony live with no backing track!

Also this took me longer to realize and accept bc as far as i can remember this is the first time this is happening.

Beautiful Liar’s choreo is (in my opinion) flawed.

Think of Shoot out, Aligator, Fantasia, Follow, Love Killa, Rush hour, even LOVE (and many other mx title songs). you can instantly visualize the signature moves for each of these songs and its not because they were released a while ago. Everyone was doing the rush hour and love killa hand moves as soon as watching them for the first time.

I couldn’t think of any particular moves from Beautiful Liar’s choreo after watching it at least 5-6 times. So i watched one of the stages again with the intent of finding THE move™️. Well. Its not there.

Another issue that i think BL’s choreo is suffering from is too many backup dancers. Too many people are constantly moving in and out of the frame and its so distracting and difficult to follow who you’re supposed to be looking at…. (Especially when everyone’s wearing white☠️)

Omg that's awesome! Love Killa was actually my first Monsta X comeback! I didn't get into kpop until 2020 - during the pandemic my friend showed me Taemin and I was hooked on him... but then I saw Wonho and well. Monsta X took over my life!

Autobahn, Mercy, Underwater, Oh My, X, and Secret are some of my favorites! Honestly Monsta X has some of the best B sides! Wonho is my favorite, too! The rap line is also really good

I think there are so many funny moments from their X-Ray show, but their 2018 Shootout performance at the MAMA Awards is by far one of my favorites. I only wish I could have been around to watch it in the moment! - Mbb Secret Santa 🎅

My side blog is mxot7-wonho, if you wanna take a look, maybe I should put it in my bio since it's not a secret or anything, lol i actually fell into the k-pop rabbit hole a long way back! but I am not up to date with all the MX content available. I have never seen a full episode of the monsta xray! but some of my favourite moments are: when they go to a kindergaden to help looking after children, shownu breaking an axe chopping wood in that food program and many of the insa oppa episodes, they just crack me up! Speaking of performances, I'd say the alligator m countdown stage they did, they rap, they dance and then they blow your mind performing the song

But like you I wish i had stanned them sooner, they came to Europe for a tour and I just missed them when I could have seen them, together, that will always hurt me.

On the other hand I went to see Wonho (my beloved) when he went to London for the "european tour" and I am so happy i could go, he is the most handsome and the kindest man I have ever seen on a stage
