Meeting Tomi Ahonen

I have had some interesting tales to share with regards to people and events in my life; many relating to my activities and presence on the Web. I met Tomi Ahonen in Lagos at Mobile West Africa Yesterday. He made my day. 

I am a big mobile technology enthusiast. Tomi is a renowned expert in the field of mobile technology. He spent years working at Nokia until 2002 when he retired to being an Author and a consultant. 

He visited Lagos, Nigeria, for the first time. At the conference, he mentioned how being in Lagos was a milestone for him in his speaking and travelling career. Nigeria, the 100th country he's visiting. He cheered to it.

For someone that has enjoyed the "big life," he doesn't seem aloof at all. He's a huge fan of the social media site, Twitter. When he tweets, you can feel the passion and enthusiasm in his tweets. That is exactly how he is in person.

He is from Finland, but now lives in Hong Kong. He doesn't have a child of his own, but opened his presentation with a solidarity for the Chibok girls that have been kidnapped. I see him beyond being a mentor with regards to the things I do myself; touched by his humanness.

"I am as excited to see you too. Finally, Jesse Oguns," he mentioned to me.

This is a milestone for me too in my career. So happy to meet you Tomi. Keep being awesome. 

P.S. He's a big James Bond fan. He has visited many of the places where many James Bond movies were shot. 

When he sends me the original of these pictures I grabbed from his computer screensavers, I'll replace these ones. :)

Everyday we encounter individuals who in their own special way change the world.
