It’s fair to say that I’m completely obsessed with this city. I mean – I write about it, I tweet about it on a daily basis, I’m forever exploring new pockets of Bristol which I never knew existed, and of course spending money that I don’t have on snacking at some of our many, many amazing eateries.

I’ve been challenged by Pegasus Life to come up with my hidden gems in this absolute beaut of a city, and after much deliberating I believe I have whittled it down to the following…

The Old Bookshop

First up is Bedminster’s finest, The Old Bookshop. This place has gone from strength to strength since first opening its doors in 2011, and with the addition of Psychopomp distillery taking residence in their amazingly decorated cocktail bar, Alex Bluett making magic in the kitchen, plus the fluffiest, softest, most adorable resident dog (the legendary Arthur) this place does NOT get much better.

Mission Pizza

My newest obsession is the brilliant folks at Mission Pizza. I first became aware of their wares at Foozie’s Pizzafest at the end of last year, and fell head over heels for them because, a) all of their pizzas are vegetarian, b) they can all be made vegan on request, and c) LOOK AT THESE T SHIRTS. Plus, they are a lovely bunch of guys! What more do you want?

Windmill Hill City Farm

Oh, the farm! I cycle past the farm every morning on my way to work, and I will never get over hearing pigs oink and cockerels crow just a few hundred yards from the entrance to Asda Bedminster. It’s a brilliant place to pop along to on a weekend if you’ve got little ones, and they run loads of events throughout the year to get stuck in to.

Bakers & Co.

… aka inventors of hardcore brunchography; in other words, the best goddamn brunch you will eat in Bristol. Whenever we can bring ourselves to pop over to the other side of the river (North of the wall), it’s always to make a beeline straight for this place. I am a sucker for their dirty chai lattes and huevos rancheros, but they make bloody spectacular french toast and seasonal specials, too.

The nicest bunch of film buffs you’re ever likely to meet, plus there are two resident cats who are rather friendly, too. 20th Century Flicks is a colossal treasure trove of cinema, housed in a charmingly wonky little shop on the equally charming Christmas Steps, which they occasionally vacate to do an immensely entertaining film quiz at the pub a stone’s throw from their front door. A must visit if you’re in Bristol!

The Bristol Food Tour

Last but by no means least are the brilliant Bristol Food Tour. Run by the ever-so-friendly Alice and Jo, tBFT takes you on a culinary journey to some of Bristol’s best foodie spots to sample a variety of delicious wares. I went on a trip through Stokes Croft at the end of last year – keep your eyes peeled for a post about that soon!

I know, I know – I’ve definitely missed out some big names on this list, but these are my hidden li’l gems which make this city brilliant. Which would be on your list? Lemme know – tweet me @lilydoughball.
