MUSIC THAT MOVES- BECK- COLORS (2017)

Back in 2005 while still in elementary school, I moved to the midwest and I had no friends and was super bored (I was smalls from the sandlot). I grew up listening to music and loving albums by coldplay, john mayer, lenny kravitz, etc, that my mom and siblings would play. So when I moved and had nothing better to do, I decided to go and buy an album.

I remember my first album as well as I remember my first Christmas, first kiss, and the like. That album was Guero by Beck. I had never heard of Beck since his ‘90s hits came out before I was born, but 30 seconds into the album I was hooked. To this day I still love that album!

Here we are in 2017, and I haven’t always enjoyed the albums Beck has released since ‘05. But when I saw this drop in Spotify I had to check it out. And MAN, this song rocks! It is so funky, original, and thoughtful. Beck breathes such wonderful life into pop music, and I love the fascinating slime in the music video. Usually music moves me on the inside, but with COLORS, I am forced to move my body!

As I listen to "We Are" by ONE OK ROCK, tears come to my eyes. This song is so extraordinary & resonates with me in such an intimate way. As a person who struggles with Depression, I fight every single day to find a way to keep living & to fight the monsters that hold me down. This song, every time I listen to it, it helps me realise & keeps me believing that I am strong & that I matter. That I deserve to live. ONE OK ROCK & the music that they create is so profound in the way that it can reach down into the darkest parts of you to shine light. The first time I listened to their music, the song "The Beginning," was in the wake of my brother's death. Every word, every note of that song, filled me with such emotion that for the very first time I was able to grieve his loss & I finally cried. They're my favourite band for a reason: they are extraordinary. In every way. They make a difference. As a sick person, I'm dying & I've always feared I'd never get to see them before I died. But in less than one week, I will finally get to meet them & see them play live in Sacramento. Words cannot express what this moment means to me. Even now as I listen to their music, I cry with such gratitude & appreciation. Thank you, ONE OK ROCK. Thank you for all that you do and for all that you are.
