#MyMusicMonday: Rest in Peace legendary rock and roll guitarist and vocalist, Tom Petty!! I was shocked to hear of his passing this afternoon after I had completed my afternoon errands. I enjoyed listening to his music on CD, radio, and more recently, heard my friends in the local band, "Blue Hand Luke", perform "American Girl", at The Rustic Barn Pub this past Friday evening. When I was taking the course, Advanced Study in Drawing And Painting 1 during my final semester as an HVCC Fine Arts Major, I was inspired by a photograph that I had taken of an airplane that I had seen at the Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum and moved by the motivational lyrics from a Petty song that I had liked called "Learning To Fly" to create this piece. I called my piece, "Learning To Fly" (Oil On Canvas Paper, Graphite, 12"x16", 2009). Thank you Tom Petty for what you have achieved in music and rock and roll. Your music has inspired local bands like "Blue Hand Luke", "Emerald City", "Dashboard Anthem", among other bands and musicians to learn how to cover and perform your tunes. RIP Tom Petty and also, my thoughts and prayers go out to those people whose lives had ended or were injured by the recent shooting incident at the country concert festival held in Las Vegas!!
