I'm reading a Billboard timeline of Drake and Kendrick and there's this:

And it's just like. That's the worst possible fuckin thing to say. You did go pop and there's a reason you didn't stay on some conscious shit. The reason is that you're not conscious enough to write conscious rap. Most of us aren't, though actually there are a lot of conscious people who don't rap. Should it be the responsibility of the conscious to always rap about it? Or at least write poetry or philosophy or say anything at all... Hooooow to define consciousness 🫠 idk! I don't claim to know shit, I drive a 2001 van full of built-in ashtrays and windows that barely open, and in it I listen to fuckin CDs, and tapes even, I have a pretty CD binder thing covered in stickers like I'm stuck in the year the van was built, and it has punk and country and indie and just the one rapper, really, I have basically every Watsky CD and if I were smart I would avoid weighing in on anything any other rapper is doing, because Watsky is doing the coolest shit in the world, he made a global puzzle game poem love letter to life, humanity, reality...

I would prefer greatly if that had trended as No. 1 on Tumblr instead of two guys fighting, though I mean. It's good to call people out on patterns of predation. We can't expect everyone to write Love Letters when it's a sick sad world out there.

George seems to have taken this music video down from the Watsky YouTube channel and only has it posted with the album art... God I miss the x Infinity full movie album thing, it was so good...

Also don't come at me for how anything is spelled, this is a screenshot of Google showing me what it stripped off lyricfind. I actually have the lyrics memorized but didn't want to type them... This is taking long enough to write as it is. If you don't believe me about the memorization thing, I could be 'bullied' into posting proof.

I am not really a fan of Lamar or his music, I've listened to some of it and I respect it but don't get obsessed with it, it's obvious however that he's leagues more intelligent and interesting than his present opponent. I am so fascinated by the mix of thoughtful kindness (when he's addressing the kids) and cruelty (for Aubrey and his parents) on Meet the Grahams. So poetically contradictory, etc. The "kindness" to the kids was another form of cruelty, and also a positioning of himself as a good guy. Which I will believe a little bit, because I kind of think you can't write lines like this unless you believe them at least a little bit. Whether or not he lives up to that I would not deign to speculate because everyone has "lots of tiny indiscretions way beyond the public eye that if you saw would probably out [them] as a complicated guy." (That's Watsky again, I have had a problem since 2016 where I can't stop quoting him.)

I have so many thoughts about every line. Incredible. Only one verse and I'm just like. I wanna write a million essays that no one will ever read. Instead for now I shall stop writing and choose my tags carefully so I can find this later but not engage too much interaction

So im kinda super obsessed about Watsky because his music is kinda my every thing. And ive seen him at concerts or interacted with him otherwise like 8 or 9 times total now and every time its lovely.

The way he interacts with his art and the people who love it really works for me, and inspires me as an artist.

Anyway, he did this anazing huge ARG puzzle with lots of cool people and he released a video about it i highly recommend. (Here)

The whole song really sells the metaphor but here is my favorite bit:
