I went to my first concert alone and I loved it
The venue was beautiful, and the people were too
Like I loved it too much
I want to do everything alone now,
Almost
But I also found my new favorite musician
Who I just saw and he was amazing
I had so much fun
I cant get his songs out of my head
And added a celebrity crush
Oops

JCR's: CC-Free Community Lot
Jazz, Country, Rock, and other music for uplifting... epicureans.
Another 2x2 downtown-themed community lot from me, this time inspired by CBGB, the punk music venue that was in New York City.
Most of the exterior is just facades to emulate the interconnected buildings of New York, but in order to squeeze in a few more things without making it too small, I used the space that looks like it belongs to other buildings for the bathroom & a diner food stand.
Obviously the performing stage is very small, but I playtested it and sims are able to not only successfully use all the instruments, but the tip jar for every single instrument is also accessible to other sims. The guitar being at a 45 degree angle helps with the accessibility, because objects at that angle tend to become invisible to sim routing, so they just walk right through it.

Carlos Sainz and Hot Cocoa and Warm Hands [no warnings]
Day 5 of the Vetteltea Advent Calendar
Tumblr media
Note: There’s nobody I’d ever want to dedicate a Carlos Drabble to more than his actual WAG, @silverstonesainz. Dani, not only are you such a creative, kind, beautiful and talented creator, you’re also one of the greatest friends I could ever ask for. I could not be more thankful that we crossed paths and that our stupid love of Spanish men brought us together. I love you so much, sweetpea.
Tumblr media
It’s blistering cold in central Madrid, something you hadn’t witnessed since moving to the city with your boyfriend.
It wasn’t entirely your fault for not climbatising; after all, three days after settling into his home, the two of you had been whisked away to Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi, your body so overwhelmed from the Jet Lag that you had done nothing but sleep and watch with wide eyes as Carlos drove the SF-23 to the absolute best of his ability.
‘Only one more race,’ you had reminded him, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek when he had clambered out of the car, wanting nothing more than for this season to be over. He was fairly certain the entire team felt the same. Every team felt the same, if you took away Red Bull.
No, what Carlos was excited for was to take a step away from the track, the bright lights and shades of red he was dressed in each weekend. The man had actually passed on the farewell party in Abu Dhabi; he had already said his farewells to the drivers and wanted to get back on the plane and take you home. After all, this would be the first time you could be together in your new home for more than three days.
The man would have been content to leave his suitcase in the walkway, lift you into his toned arms and bury the two of you underneath the blankets on his bed, silent from the outside world. However, as the days move by, Christmas begins to draw close enough for the two of you to put up decorations, bake cookies and watch movies. He’s never been this domesticated, not with any of his other girlfriends. He didn’t feel comfortable; Carlos has always been seen as a strong male, built with golf, gym and driving.
And yet…with you, he could relax. He could smile as you wiped flour on his tanned cheek, kissing you whilst another Hallmark movie played from the television system. Carlos remembered his father’s gruff voice, insisting that when he found the right woman, everything would change. Now, as his fingers laced with yours, dressed in his long winter jacket that you had insisted went well with your outfit, he finally understood.
The two of you had left your blissful home and Piñon for long enough to meet his family in the city. It wasn’t your first time meeting the Sainz’s, but Blanca had recently taken a new position in the city, whilst his mother had insisted they needed a reunion now you had moved in with her son.
Of course, you were all too excited to see them, unlacing your fingers from your boyfriend and dashing over to be scooped into the warm arms of your (one day,) Mother, Father and Sister’s in law, kisses pressed to your rosy cheeks and stories spread whilst you linked arms with Ana. Carlos stepped in line with his father, the elder man patting his son on the back.
“Ha sido bueno desde que se mudó aquí, ¿no?” He asks if everything has worked out since you had moved in; the grin on Carlos’ face answers the question.
“Perfecto.” He answers, springing into a spiral of how each moment, something as simple as waking up or making the bed was now romanticized, simply because you were there to share the moment with him.
Eventually, the group of you stop by the central grand-stand, traditional Christmas Music being played to everybody in the city. Your boyfriend takes the moment to slip an arm around your shoulder, his taller frame pulling you into his chest and a soft kiss pressed against your temple, beaming at having you in his touch. His brows tighten when he laces his fingers back into his palm, pulling away as if he had been violently shocked.
You’re confused, watching him mumble to both of his sisters, his mother, before tapping his father on the shoulder, the two Sainz men stepping away from the group. Curiosity willed you to keep your eyes trained, until Reyes cooed in delight, drawing your attention back to the stage as a group of children stepped on, ready to sing carols to the festive crowd.
The performance has you in such a trance that you don’t recognise your boyfriend’s return until you feel a hand on your lower back, turning in his touch, eyes widening when you see the deep red takeaway cup, filled with a rich, dark chocolate liquid. Your heart softens as he hands you the cup, seeing each of the women had been given an identical cup, letting the warmth spread across your fingers as you take a sip.
It’s heavenly; you’re almost certain you’ll be dragging the poor boy back into the city at any given moment simply so you could try this drink again. He wouldn’t mind, he would happily replay this moment in his mind for an eternity, so long as it was always with you.
The cup is lifted to his own lips, your own eyebrows raising as you wordlessly offer him a sip of the drink. Ana and Blanca are intensely focused on the interaction, their younger brother taking a sip of the drink and beaming at you, passing the hot drink between one another until the cup is empty.
“Are your hands a little warmer now, Cariño?” He’s concerned; although there’s a delight in being here with you, he doesn't want you to get too cold. Before you can answer his question, he simply takes your two hands into his own, cupping them in his larger palms and pulling them upwards to his lips, leaving soft kisses against your skin.
“You’re so cheesy.” You tease, taking delight in how he laughs like a schoolchild, pulling you into his chest and pressing a soft kiss to the top of your head.
“Only for you.”

NATALIA ALVAREZ; sim request by @prefabtrait — ambitious, cheerful, music lover
for as long as natalia can remember she's loved making music. whether she's singing, playing piano or guitar: she has a great ear for music and a way around people. everyone in her small home town had always imagined she'd move to the big city as soon as she could and would become the next big thing. it certainly is what nat always wanted, too. it's just that it turns out leaving her family and her home behind is harder than she thought it might be. she's still trying to decide whether she want to try and make it big or prefers to keep her music local instead. loves singing + playing piano, lemonade & spirited sims. dislikes playing violin, egotistical sims & gossip.

The first Torrid store - Brea Mall - Brea, CA (Opened April 18, 2001)
Designed by JGA, Inc.
From the book: “The retailer, Hot Topic, based in City of Industry, CA, started a short 12 years ago with a concept and a target market; cutting edge apparel, accessories and novelty items--all inspired by alternative music, oriented towards a hip and trendy, teenage market. Hot Topic changed the look of their retail settings, which are usually located in mainstream malls, and the company has recently taken aim at another special market. The new focus is on plus-size teens; an area that the fashion market seems to have neglected.
Up until this time the 15-30 year old hip and trendy young women who wear sizes 14-26 had no other choice but to shop in the larger size women's shops where the fashions were tailored to the more matronly and conservative tastes. That is how Torrid was born!
Torrid was introduced in a new, hot and fun retail setting designed by JGA, Inc. of Southfield, MI which has designed the various prototypes for the Hot Topic stores as well. To be sure of the need for such a niche to be filled, the company opened five Torrid shops almost simultaneously; the first in Brea, CA, followed by stores in malls in Mission Viejo, CA, Annapolis, MD, Omaha, NE, N. Attleboro, MA, and Littleton, CO. The merchandise offerings are clustered as "Streetwear," "Clubwear," Rockabilly Wear," and Renaissance Wear" and the stores average about 2,750 SF. Besides the "everyday" slacks and novelty T-shirts, these larger size young women can find black vinyl pants and mini-skirts, black corsets, dog-collar chokers and platform shoes as well as retro-inspired clothing and accessories. In addition to the gothic and prom dresses, Torrid also carries a full line of lingerie for this particular market. Listening to the target market, Hot Topic's Torrid offers teenagers and up the opportunity to look "girly yet fierce."
The design objective for the prototype store that was designed by JGA, Inc. was to create "a celebration of abundance" and make the setting as unique, unconventional and spirited as the plus-size young women who will be shopping here. Inspired by a "mythological, after-hours club in New Orleans," the atmosphere is romantic, dark and filled with a sense of "unbridled passion." "From the signature flaming heart icon to the curving voluptuous lines throughout the store, excessive materials and scale mirror the zest of the Torrid woman." It starts out front with the shopper-stopping facade which serves as a dramatic gateway to the store.
The curvaceous and sensuous "hourglass" figures of the Torrid customer is expressed in the hand-crafted metalwork and the backlit translucent glass glowing red. A "drippy" red chandelier and the hand blown flaming heart torcheres add to the store's distinctive sense of place and being. The mosaic porcelain tile floor sets the color palette of jewel tones and metallics. "Visually complex, layers of finishes and architectural pieces evoke a one-of-a-kind artistic flavor." The eclectic mix of fixtures, furniture and furnishings-even the armoires--add to the New Orleans flavor. The hand painted, whimsical and overscaled armoires or cabinets are used to anchor the various zones within the store and at the center of the space a large bronze metallic drape further divides the departments.
The designers added special touches to each area to create that unique, one-of-a-kind feeling to the design. Specially designed, oversized red sculptured chairs with slatted backs are featured in the shoe area. Shoes and accessories are displayed on the slatted backs. The lingerie area takes on a more intimate and exotic--almost Moroccan--feeling with the hand blown glass chandeliers suspended down from large plaster domes. Seen behind this area--beyond a hand painted wall and arc--are the individual, oversized dressing rooms which are equipped with flattering uplights and decorative chandeliers that are visible from other parts of the store. The cash wrap becomes a "focal fantasy" in the total design and it resembles a giant canopy bed topped with twisting shapes and forms.
The space is filled with a pulsating excitement that is so appropriate for the merchandise and the young clientele. In addition to the shimmering palette of rich, deep colors, the warm colored downlights not only enrich the ambient colors and textures but they enhance the merchandise display. The traditional long and narrow mall space is broken up into more personal and individual zones by the variations in ceiling heights, the tin ceilings, finials and the assorted wall coverings. The use of brocades, metallics, and jewel tones on the walls also help to differentiate areas in the store. The metal fixture system--tortoise shell like in appearance--was customized to accommodate the products unique size and length requirements.
If all goes as well as anticipated we can expect to see more and more Torrid shops opening up across the USA- maybe even as many as 700 outlets!”

Book Review 48 – Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree
Tumblr media
I will be honest, I read this book because it was nominated for a Hugo award and I have a mildly masochistic personal commitment to read every nominee I can (and so remain at least slightly aware of the genre at large). Otherwise, I’m quite certain I never would have touched it – everything about the pitch and marketing made it seem like something I would hate. I’ll try to be fair and approach the book on its own terms but, well it wasn’t exactly painful I wouldn’t say my initial impression was wrong either.
The book follows Viv, an orcish adventurer in a generic D&D fantasy sort of world, as she decides to retire from the dungeon-delving/monster-slaying game with her last big score – a magical stone that, when buried, is supposed to bring ‘the ring of fortune’ to whatever you do above it. She opens the city’s first and only coffee shop. The book follows her collecting a cast of lovable misfit friends/employees (Calamity the hobgoblin carpenter, Tandri the succubus barista/eventual love interest, Thimble the ratfolk baking savant, a bard whose name I’m blanking on, Amity the dire shop cat/security) as they run the business and develop it into what by complete coincidence will end up looking very familiar to the a cute quirky modern indie coffeeshop. There is theoretically some conflict happening, first with the local mob boss and then with one of Viv’s old adventuring companions, but they both feel pretty perfunctory and like they’re only included out of a sense of obligation.
The actual meat of the book is basically focused on Viv instantly becoming fast friends with all her employees/coworkers and how endearing they are, and also the step-by-step of the coffeeshop's development. First in renovating the property into her vision, then in the branding and marketing, and then the gradual addition of menu items and live music. Through it all Viv and Tandri have a developing romance that (rather appropriately) feels like a coffeeshop AU fanfic where the author decided the slowburn tag meant ‘every other character will just assume they’re already dating by the halfway point but they’ll act like flustered teenagers and refuse to actually discuss their feelings until they kiss on the literal last page’.
So, the book is ‘cozy fantasy’ which as far as I’m aware does basically means ‘no tension slice of life fanfic but with original characters’ (alternatively, ‘2000s ‘cute girls doing cute things’ anime but with a moderately more diverse cast and in sf/f book form’). The only other books in the genre I’ve read are Becky Chambers’ stuff which, while I didn’t particularly love them, I now feel I was being way too harsh on. Those have legitimately impressive worldbuilding and coherent themes and at least gestures at real compelling character arcs and dilemmas. This, well, what you see is what you get? Like, there’s zero false marketing, the entire book is entirely dedicated to hitting the exact broad emotional beats you would expect it to. There’s not really any interest in the world beyond the cafe, it is in fact a plot point that Viv attracts a found family she clicks perfectly with and their relationships are all uniformly positive, and there is exactly one point where she suffers any sort of real reversal – which lasts for about five pages before everyone comes together and rebuilds things even better than ever. There is a wizened gnome whose clearly living time backwards who takes the time to pat Viv on the should and reassure her that everything turns out alright, in about as many words. There's clearly a market for this, and I am not it.
Morality in the book is basically synonymous with niceness. If someone is friendly or at least polite to Viv then even if they seem like an obvious problem in the end they’ll turn out to have their heart in the right place and only want the best – as, for example, the local crime boss proves to be a nice old lady who accepts an order of cinnamon buns every week as ‘protection money’ and donates several shipments of materials to rebuilding the place without any expectation of payment or stake in return. The only two characters in the book who are rude assholes to someone in the cafe are also coincidentally the only real villains there are.
All of this is stuff that on some level I more or less expected opening into the book. The thing that actually disappointed me is that this fluffy book about opening a coffee shop doesn’t actually care about coffee. If you’re going to make it the centrepiece of your whole book, I expect some exultation and appreciation of the stuff! Give me self-indulgent passages going into detail about the smell and taste and smell and experience of it. Make me put down the thing actually craving a latte!
But the book’s mostly interested in the, like, trappings and signifiers associated with a cafe, not (despite Viv’s theoretical obsession with it) the actual coffee. This feels like a point that generalizes. (There actually is a decent amount of detail spent on the baked goods their genius baker invents, which just makes the lack feel stranger.)
As an aside, and I know this is very clearly not a book that expects you to care about the worldbuilding, but it’s kind of strange that coffee is presented as this new exotic novelty to a vaguely European fantasy metropolis that is explicitly already familiar and comfortable with tea? Like obviously the historical analogues aren’t worth getting into – Viv is creating a cute neighberhood coffeehouse by a college campus, no a 17th century Venetian cafe – but it’s not the first place I’ve seen the same portrayal of the two drinks and it’s, odd? Like it’s not like tea is any less foreign to Europe, or arrived particularly earlier.
But anyway, yeah, didn’t enjoy this but can’t say I was misled. It is in fact a book that you can entirely judge by its cover and not be surprised one bit.

I decided to walk the hour and 20m to my radiation consult - this is the first appointment where they do a bunch of scans and tattoo where the lasers go. The walk ended up only taking about an hour or so, it brought me through downtown SF (the TC Disrupt conference reminds me of the show Silicon Valley). After that, the Tenderloin, a spot in San Francisco that makes the news a lot for the unhoused residents and drug use. I’m not scared by any of that - I find it kind of fascinating to look people in their eyes and the stories their faces tell, sometimes it’s terribly sad- sometimes dark and sinister, and sometimes just your average person walking down the street. I also love the art in the neighborhood and all of the support, I walked by two volunteer efforts to ensure those who live there have resources they need. Sometimes it shocks me how people just stay alive for so long after so much trauma and abuse - what resiliency.
These driverless Waymo cars are such a thing in this city now. I’ve yet to take one but might try soon.
I loved walking by the theater Great American Music Hall where BND took me to hear Mark Kozelek for the first time. And how cool are the street signs as you get closer to a larger Asian neighborhood.
I arrived and screwed up the COVID protocol I was supposed to follow, when I got there, the nurse gave me directions while I had COVID and I totally misunderstood, so the techs were irritated. And I get it, they are dealing with very fragile people in the waiting room. So they set the room up with this massive ventilator and masked up pretty intensely while I profusely apologized for the hassle I caused.
I laid down and they said I was going to have to hold my breath for 20 seconds. For some reason, this panicked me, I still cough when I take a deep breath and I wasn’t sure if I could do it. They got me arranged and I had this MRI flashback and just suddenly burst into tears. I’ve no idea where it came from but I couldn’t stop, apologizing again. They were so kind and just reassured me that this is a lot. I appreciated their kindness.
We got started and my back started spasming in the machine a little bit but I was able to still hold still. I just kept my eyes closed the whole time and they helped me practice the breathing, and I did fine. We ended it and the technician who was initially annoyed walked me out and through the whole process - where I check in next time and even what color gown would be best for me. He said they are taking extra precautions with COVID because it’s taking people so long to recover from it, which made me feel better. He gave my arm a little pat and I thanked him again for how nice he was.
I went to the lobby and just started shaking. I sent a voice memo to my sister who already had an intense appointment with her oncologist today (it was positive but hard for her to take in). I felt nauseous and shaky and all of the sudden, really cold and hungry so I called an Uber and while I waited, ordered some pasta I knew would be home when I got there. I love Door Dash so much. I crawled under the covers and ate a little, and now I’m feeling a little more centered. I really want to nap but I’m going to try to stay up so I can sleep well tonight.
I’ll be finished with the radiation on December 03. My current plan is to walk there for exercise, and then Lyft home or maybe even walk home, we’ll see. The weather is getting colder but my intuition is telling me I need to start exercising for my mental health and overall wellbeing, so that’s the plan. I start next Monday, how wild. The appointments are 15m long vs an hour so I’ll be in and out. I hope it goes by quickly.
I’ve been meditating a lot on strength just finding us when we need it, and my friend Ashley sent me this today. It hung on the office wall of her radiation lobby. The Universe is in front of me, behind me, to my left and to my right. I’m held in Love. I can do this.

Donated to the city by the philanthropist Robert Lovington in memory of his lover Miss Emily Brokaheart. The French garden below the wheel was designed by the famous architect George W. American. Warning: extreme altitude, hidden garden gnomes, and too many fountains.
If you encounter a blueflash or something, you may check the cc list for missing mesh. Credits to all the wonderful cc creators, including those not listed there.
Testing and trivia under the cut:
Tumblr media
OK, I lied a bit in the description. There is no fountain in the uploaded lot, because... well, too many fountains might crash your game or at least seriously slow it down. So I removed them for your safety. You can add them back as shown in the pictures or in any way you like (I have included the links to the two special fountains I used).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then I am sure you might be curious: can sims really use the pods and can they climb the wheel?
Well, they sort of can and cannot.
As is shown in the testing picture, the middle-height pods are about the highest places your sims can get by foot. There are ladders and stairways beyond that, but these are blocked so that your sims won't go to these dangerous heights...
In the meantime, the pods have no door, and even if your sims teleport themselves into the pods, they won't be able to take the seat for some reason. However, you can seat your sims on the benches below (near the foundtain squares) and use the "boolprop DormSpecificToolsDisabled False" and "moveobjects" cheats to move their asses into the pods. Pretty neat trick, isn't it?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, we have a "functional" control room on the platform, which does not control the movement of the wheel (of course) but does control the background music!
Enjoy!

THIS WEEKEND (Thursday Aug 8th - Sunday Aug 11th) the annual Worldcon (aka The World Science Fiction Convention) hits Glasgow, Scotland - but you don't have to be in Scotland to attend!
Omniverse will be there, represented by myself, @cthulhumystery and @gbresurrection's Doug Banks, and @mothershewrote's @cmdrjessie, along with Tess Tanenbaum who you'll meet in an upcoming Surprise RPG project. (Tess is in-person in Glasgow, while the rest of us appear online.)
We're all taking part in a number of panels about all sorts of things: JRPGs, food in anime, horror podcasts... but the big ticket Omniverse item is on Friday at 12:30pm EST / 17:30pm BST:
Surprise RPGs: Interactive Storytelling on the Bleeding Edge Or… How a Back to the Future RPG Changed My Life
Gathering around the table to tell stories is a powerful experience - powerful enough to fuel new innovations in storytelling and even therapy. Actual play pioneers Cat Blackard and Doug Banks (The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program) take you down the rabbit hole of Surprise RPGs and "The Omniverse Method". Their experimental roleplay techniques pull players and audiences into the game like never before, opening hearts and minds and offering bold new storytelling opportunities that blur the lines between fiction and reality. They're joined by interactive narrative scholar and game designer Dr. Theresa Jean Tanenbaum and game master Jessica Mudd to share stories, findings, and advice for bringing your games to life.
We're discussing the methods of play we've developed for Surprise RPGs in a large public forum for the first time. This method began in concepts first tested in Ghostbusters: Resurrection and The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program and came to fruition in K8 Was Here, The Extermination, City of Daemons, and our upcoming shows A Walk in the Park and Étude of the Storm.
There's more info on all the other panels we're a part of below!
You can get online (and in person) tickets to Worldcon here* and if you can't make them live, your ticket gets you access to video replays.
*Not gonna lie, Worldcon's sign up/ ticketing is obtuse and not user friendly at all, but if you read the above linked page and follow the directions therein, you'll manage. I believe in you.
OUR PANEL SCHEDULE:
Thursday, August 8, 2024
Let Them Cook - Food in Anime - 08:00 EDT / 13:00 BST (In-Person and Online)
Omniverse personnel: Jessica Mudd
We've all wanted to take a bite out of a gorgeous piece of animated food: the hearty and comforting bacon and eggs of Howl's Moving Castle, the explosively flavorful wagyu of Food Wars, or even the dubious treasure bug sorbet of Dungeon Meshi. Come find out with us how anime can create connections between food, the audience, and cooking - but bring your own snacks!
Friday, August 9, 2024
Predicting the Shape of Things to Come  - 05:00 EDT / 10:00 BST (In-Person)
Omniverse personnel: Tess Tanenbaum
The panel discusses how ideas from the past – whether presented as science fiction or factual predictions – have stood the test of time. Which have come true, which were way off, and which are still future possibilities? And who proved better at predicting the future? Was it the scientists, mathematicians and engineers… or the science fiction writers?
Sci-Fi and Fantasy Musicals on Stage -  09:30 EDT/ 14:30 BST (In-Person)
Omniverse personnel: Tess Tanenbaum (moderator)
Return to the Forbidden Planet rocked our spaceship. The Rocky Horror Picture Show had us dancing the Timewarp. The Little Shop of Horrors, taught us botany and Young Frankenstein put on the Ritz. The panel will talk about the best and worst SF musicals, originals versus adaptions, and why we should have more of them.
Surprise RPGs: Interactive Storytelling on the Bleeding Edge Or… How a Back to the Future RPG Changed My Life - 12:30 EDT/ 17:30 BST (Online)
Omniverse personnel: Cat Blackard, Doug Banks, Jessica Mudd, Tess Tanenbaum (moderator)
Gathering around the table to tell stories is a powerful experience - powerful enough to fuel new innovations in storytelling and even therapy. Actual play pioneers Cat Blackard and Doug Banks (The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program) take you down the rabbit hole of Surprise RPGs and The Omniverse Method.
Saturday, August 10, 2024
The Return of the Witch to A Hostile World - 05:00 EDT/ 10:00 BST (In-person)
Omniverse personnel: Tess Tanenbaum
In recent years, fictional witchcraft has seen a large resurgence, both in online communities and in contemporary horror. How does this interact with the rise of real practitioners? Who are some of the great new witches of speculative fiction? What is it about the idea of witchcraft that appeals in these times of uncertainty, as queer/trans rights are being rolled back and abortion access denied?
Diversity in Tabletop RPGs - 08:00 EDT/ 13:00 BST (Online)*
Omniverse personnel: Cat Blackard (moderator)
Roleplaying games can provide players the opportunity to embody a diverse range of characters with different backgrounds, gender identities, sexualities, abilities, and more. Our panelists will discuss the importance of diversity in tabletop RPGs, introduce audiences to a wide variety of decolonizing and inclusive game systems, and look at how players can push beyond stereotypical representation.
*There are two versions of this panel, an online one and an in-person one, with different panelists. There is a chance that this one may be re-titled "LGBTQIA+ Representation in Tabletop RPGs"
The Immersive Possibilities of Horror Audio - 14:00 EDT/ 19:00 BST (Online)
Omniverse personnel: Cat Blackard
Eerie, unsettling, and spooky tales are a perfect fit for audio dramas. Our panelists converse on modern horror audio dramas, like The Lovecraft Investigations, The Magnus Archives, and Old Gods of Appalachia, and how they use clever sound design, ambient audio, and other audio techniques to immerse their audiences in the world of their stories.
 Sunday, August 11, 2024
Podcast Production: Audio Recording and Editing - 05:00 EDT/ 10:00 BST (Online)
Omniverse personnel:  Jessica Mudd, Cat Blackard (moderator)
How do you make sure your podcast audio is clean, professional, and appealing to the ears of your listeners? Join us for a deep dive into the audio recording and editing process, showcasing strategies for gracefully integrating music or sound effects into your podcast, integrating multiple audio files into a balanced and unified whole, improving the quality of sub-standard audio, and output formats appropriate to your unique circumstances.
Let's Kill and Dethrone God: the History of JRPGs - 08:00 EDT / 13:00 BST (Online and In-Person)
Omniverse personnel: Jessica Mudd, Cat Blackard (moderator)
Japanese Role Playing Games have developed relatively independently to their western counterpart, evolving their own unique tropes, mechanics, and worldbuilding staples. In this panel we will discuss what makes a JRPG, trace its history, and shed light on some hidden gems of the genre - it's not all just Final Fantasy!
