"I know Baby, I'm so sad not to be there," you answered through the phone while grabbing your bag, trying your best not to sound so stressed. "But I'll call you later; I need to go " You needed this call to end; your train will come soon.

You hurried towards the train station, taking the train to Seoul. You were on the way home to celebrate your boyfriend's birthday, his day, but he thinks you're still on the work trip.

Mingyu will be out tonight with all his friends, drinking and having fun, and you will join later.

The time frame was strict but you will make it.

The cab was already waiting and you grabbed your clutch with the key cards for the hotel.

"To the Hybe building please" you told the driver and he nodded "it will take about 30 minutes" he then told you with a smile. "Perfect thank you"

You put your phone away and looked out of the window, watching the skyline of Seoul with curious eyes; you would never grow tired of it.

Kim Mingyu was your happy place, and you were thankful for him.

"We're here," the taxi driver announced, and you grabbed some cash with a tip. "Thank you so much; have a nice evening," you said while getting out and closing the door. You could already hear the music blasting from inside so you quickly walked up to security "on the list?" the tall man asked "Y/N Y/L/N" you answered, and he quickly nodded "go straight in" you thanked him and walked inside.

You looked at the time and there was only 1 minute left, you looked around for your boyfriend and it was not that hard.

Kim Mingyu would always own the spotlight for you; he lights up the room for you and you smiled seeing his friends count down until it was midnight; they all jumped onto him, and he laughed out in joy.

This was the first time in two years he actually celebrated his birthday. It was a rough time for him seeing his best friend unhappy on his birthday. But this year Wonwoo decided that Mingyu deserved to be celebrated. And seeing Wonwoo smiling so bright was just the cherry on top.

You waited for a small moment standing at the bar when Seok whispered something in his ear, and his eyes widened, and his gaze fell on you. His eyes sparkled, and his smile was on full display. Before you could react he walked towards you with long strides.

You were never the biggest party animal, but with the 13 guys it was surely a lot of fun, the all jumped around and danced around, and Mingyu felt alive with them, and when your boyfriend was happy, you were happy. 

Before you could even think deeper about this, you felt his soft lips on your neck, your weakness, and he knows it.  Combines with the alcohol this was not good, you turned around just to see his darkened eyes "Let's go home baby" he pleaded, and you bit your lip "already? You don't wanna party anymore?"

Laughter. The clinking of goblets and excited voices travelling around the large hall. A swirl of vivid colours decorate the centre; gleaming metal armours and shining silks, comingling in a dance of celebration. There’s music too; passionate beats and arousing notes. Everyone was enjoying themselves.

All but Loki. He too was attired the same, in his ceremonial armour at Thor’s behest. But he situated himself in a lone corner, staring into the crowd with a glower. More specifically at the dancing figures of his lover and the newly crowned king.

It’s loud, boisterous. It wasn’t as annoying earlier in the evening. Now it grates at him, bit by bit. The sounds, accompanied by the tapping of shoes on the polished floor, and Jane, smiling at Thor, laughing at something he said. He thinks his teeth might break with the force he’s clenching his jaw.

The song ends, and they part, Jane disappearing in the crowd with her small stature while Thor stands there an imposing figure. Loki glares at the back of his head.

It seems silly, being jealous of such a thing. They were just dancing. But a small part of him, that he never quite managed to subdue, reminds him that they used to be together. He thought that he was over it, but sometimes he fears his fancies and fantasies would remain just that and she’d leave him.

Jane hums, clearly unbelieving, but Loki is a little angered. At her, himself… the doubts festering into a tight coil of despair. Why does he spiral into this misery?

“Loki.” That tone. Knowing. It vexes him. He can’t hide anything from her; the phantom specks of Aether still interwoven in her essence. “Would you tell me what’s bothering you?”

“Nothing. I just don’t want to deal with a drunken Thor.”

She moves to stand before him and he can’t avoid looking at her anymore. “And that’s why you’re brooding here?” She says with a little grin and he sighs. She grabs his hands, prying them apart and wraps them around her waist. “Why don’t you dance with me instead of sulking?”

“I’m not sulking.”

She tilts her head closer. “So you weren’t jealous?”

“No.”

He’s looking over her shoulder, but sees her frown in his peripheral. She cups his neck, her thumbs on his jawline, making him face her properly.

“Hey, what happened?”

His lips press into a thin line. He looks at her, ready to deny, but the worry in her eyes halts him. He steels himself, even as his ears turn hot.

“You were dancing with him.” She shakes her head imperceptibly, confused. “And talking to him. And laughing. You were together once.”

“And you think I could leave you for him?”

He stays silent, unwilling to lend actual words to his doubts.

“Damn, Loki. Look at me.” He looks. There’s a subtle flame in her eyes now. One that he could never sway from. It fuels her resolve, anchoring him. “I love you. Only you. Don’t forget that.”

And he breathes. It’s like… like he just needed to hear that. To brush away baseless worries and phantom fears.

(Sometimes celestial bodies encounter other objects. But orbits remain, gravity inevitable.)

She presses herself to him, face buried against his chest. His arms tighten around her; he finally lets himself feel her. They stand like that for a moment, hidden behind the golden pillars, ignoring the celebrations, the music, everything else.

Then she slowly pulls away, the smile returning to her face. “Now will you dance with me?” She asks, already tugging at his hands, dragging him with her. He follows, suddenly excited.

He takes her hands in his, the rhythm of the current song guiding him along. Bright eyes, hair half-up, flowing emerald green skirts and a radiant smile adorning her face – she is exactly how he’d imagined she’d be on his arm. She laughs as he spins her, her dress blooming around her figure like an exuberant flower. A matching smile appears on his face. He should’ve just done this from the start.

But no matter. He has all night with her.

Dead & Company to Play Second Post-final-tour Sphere Residency in 2025

Those Dead & Company Final Tour T-shirts are looking sillier by the day.

The Grateful Dead spinoff - which embarked on a much-ballyhooed “final tour” in 2023 - is planning its second post-final-tour Las Vegas Sphere residency beginning in 2025.

Advertised as a “celebrat(ion) of our 10-year anniversary,” the 18-show residency will unfold over six weekends in March, April and May.

The run is also reportedly touted as the band’s “only Sphere shows in 2025,” leaving open the possibility of concerts in other venues as well.

Dead & Company played 30 Sphere shows earlier this year.

Which just proves that while the music plays the band, the band plays the fans.

The United States Virgin Islands celebrates Emancipation Day as an official holiday on July 3. It commemorates the abolition of slavery by Danish Governor Peter von Scholten on July 3, 1848.  

V.I. Emancipation Day

People in the United States Virgin Islands celebrate the V.I. Emancipation Day every year on July 3. It is considered a significant day because it commemorates the release of enslaved people from Danish rule in the West Indies. It celebrates the official abolition of slavery in the West Indies islands and is a public holiday in the U.S. Virgin Islands. More than 9,000 enslaved black people revolted against the Danish colonizers on July 3, 1848. As per the orders of the then Governor-General of the Danish West Indies, Peter von Scholten, all the enslaved people were set free. The revolt was spearheaded by Moses Gottlieb.

HISTORY OF V.I. EMANCIPATION DAY

The day the slaves in the Caribbean nations were freed from slavery by the colonizers is observed as a state holiday in these islands. The British Empire officially abolished slavery on August 1, 1834.

Since the mid-eighth century, the Virgin Islands, which consist of the islands of St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix, were under Danish rule. The islands were ideal for sugar plantations, a highly labor-intensive crop. All of this manual labor was provided by the enslaved black people brought in ships from Africa and other areas, and were called ‘slaves.’ They exceeded the Danish settlers by a large number. One of the earliest slave uprisings occurred on St. John Island in 1733 when slaves seized control of the island for six months. However, the uprising was eventually managed and cooled down with the assistance of the French powers.

In the year 1834, Britain officially abolished slavery. The French followed suit in 1848. The slave emancipation movement in France influenced the Virgin Islands as well, thereby triggering a non-violent slave uprising on St. Croix. Despite the assurance given by the Danish Crown to liberate all the slaves permanently by 1859, the slaves were freed before time by the then Danish Governor-General.

The United States Virgin Islands has declared the anniversary of this incident a public holiday, and it is also followed by America’s Independence Day on July 4. The biggest celebration in St. Croix takes place in Frederiksted, also called the ‘Freedom City,’ where the slave insurrection of 1948 took place.
