If it's not too much trouble, can I ask you about the college au? If we go back to their first episodes together, we'll see that Shinji and Asuka's relationship was a lot more uplifting and went in an upwards spiral until their kiss. It's not for nothing that Both of You, Dance Like You Want to Win is considered the happiest series ever got, and you can clearly see what they liked about each other 

To Shinji, Asuka is this high spirited girl full of drive and determination, something he believes he lacks. She's difficult but assertive. She's full of zest. Yeah she's hot, she can be flirty, and he's a teenage boy, it’s canon that he had his moments in private, but he admires her intensity and spirit, to the point of going to extreme lengths for her 

To Asuka, Shinji is one of the few, very few people in her whole life that held sincere care for her. He went after her when Misato threatened to pair Shinji with Rei. They had initial friction, but then he accepted her into their home and began cooking for her every day and spending time together. Those days with Misato and Shinji could be the closest Asuka ever had of a normal family life. By Magmadiver they were on friendly terms in the pool. She has feelings for him, not because he's yet another guy drooling for her, but because Shinji “my love language is acts of service” Ikari jumped down on a volcano without protective armor to rescue her. It probably meant the world to her 

What I'm trying to say is, it wasn't always so bleak. In the beginning it was quite hopeful. How does this translate to the college au?

You know, that is a great question that I hadn't really thought about in relation to the college au.

To me, the friction in the college au comes from two sources: 1. Asuka believes dating Shinji would not fit her sorority girl image and says so. 2. Shinji's people-pleasing keeps him from pursuing or even always realizing what/who he wants.

Asuka starts to realize she doesn't care if he fits her image and makes little overtures that he does not pick up on because of his low self esteem and shyness.

Asuka's insecurity makes her harsh. She pushes Shinji away so he'll have to prove he cares by coming back to her, but he stays back because that's what he believes she wants. It's an ugly cycle that could probably culminate with a confrontation similar to the EoE table scene, where she accuses him of using her for sex, he tries to tell her he cares about her, but she turns him down because she doesn't believe him.

They don't speak again after that and he grieves. She's his other half. He needs her. Maybe, until now, he's just played other people's music but after they start hooking up he starts writing his own songs, because she's unlocked something in him. She's his muse and he's her safe harbor.

I think I mentioned he drops out?

During their time apart, Shinji thinks about the things she said during their fight, which gets him thinking about what it is he wants from him life. What makes him happy? Who is he in his own mind's eye?

And then eventually he's able to figure it out and go to her and tell her who he is and ask if she still wants him

First off, welcome to the pmmm rp community!

I'm happy that you came to me because this moment gives me the chance to happily promote my lovely mutuals!

Neg from @heartbinders offers lovely versions of Homura and Madoka on their multi-muse blog as secondary muses. Neg's Shinji Ikari (from the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise) also has a pmmm verse, if you are interesting in writing with some non-canon pmmm characters. Overall, there are a lot of characters on Neg's blog. She is really friendly and passionate with each of her muses!

Next has to be the creative Ryn. She is a rather unique case because both of her blogs contain connections to pmmm world, which is something that I adore. First, I have to share her OC blog ( @wolfvirago ) because Robin is an amazing character. Naturally, Robin has a pmmm verse. However, there is also her multi-muse blog ( @shibemuses ) that offers a large amount of pmmm muses. There is Madoka, Sayaka, Homura, Mami, Nagisa, and even Kyubey. Isn't that wonderful? The best of both worlds! Of course, her multi-muse has other options beyond the pmmm world. (But make sure to still check out Robin, though! Original characters, even if they don't have a pmmm verse, deserve the world!)

Next has to be Kasy from @deathdanse, which is a side blog to her @misfxts blog. Kasy is another fascinating blog because her pmmm muse comes straight from the spin-off called Puella Magi Tart Magica. Now, if you don't know... Puella Magi Tart Magica follows the story of Tart, the very same historical person that would later become Joan of Arc. While Kasy does not roleplay Tart, she does roleplay a very fasinating character called Corbeau. She is both seen in the Puella Magi Tart Magica manga, but she did indeed get featured in the Magia Record app. Magia Record brought Puella Magi Tart Magica to life. Either way, read Puella Magi Tart Magica. It's a classic. More historical spin-offs should exist in the pmmm franchise.

It is my hope that the Walpurgisnacht Rising movie will attract the growth of the community because I would love to see more pmmm blogs. just some musings on gender in fandom... it's a little strange for me to see people say "i forget not everybody sees them as [headcanon which is directly countered by the text's surface layer]" because to me, how a character is seen on the surface is IMMENSELY important to how they are on the deeper end. it's going to impact them. one can live within an au where they get to exist as their true self without fear, but surely you must remember that it is an au, and the canonical events and circumstances still directly effect their character. i think shinji ikari would probably be a little happier if he transitioned to be a girl of his own free will. i'm also very aware that he is a guy, and the text treats him as a guy, and treats it as IMPORTANT that he's a guy, and this effects how he has lived through the world. i'm aware that if he were a girl from the start, his interactions with the world and other characters would be inherently different. i'm aware that my reading of him as someone who might be happier as a girl is built off of traits of the character which could easily go in the opposite direction; that some versions of shinji might be deeply offended that i see him that way. that my ideas of gender are most definitely not universal, and have some basis in stereotypes which are ultimately harmful to form assumptions around. hell, that him being a mid-pubescent anime boy with a small frame and a pretty face is likely a strong influence on this view of him; it is worth questioning to myself if i would feel the same if he were tall and buff and deeper-voiced, and moreover, how his character would be changed if that were the case. it is, thus, impossible for me to forget he's canonically a guy, even if i were to spend 3 years never touching official material and only experiencing evangelion through my own writings where he is a girl. i may forget certain aspects of canon, but that is not one of them.

i don't say any of this in anger, i'm actually kind of fascinated by this difference! i'm curious what the mindset is that creates a different outcome. learning how other people work is very fun to me ☀

Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of my favorite anime.

It doesnt have to make entirely sense, it is so captivating and emotionally charged that I love it so much.

It has a special place in my heart because it entered my life in a specific time when I felt hopeless like Shinji Ikari.

I want my art to be art. If I want to understand everything, I'd read non-fiction .

But art is meant to be felt and feelings dont always cime with plausible , definitive explanations.

Intuition and spirituality are two words that come to mind:

The belief in an ability to be mentally open and perceptive to new possibilities before being able to rationalize your decision making process to yourself or bystanders.

And the beliefs in supernatural entities not just existing alongside what is physically perceivable, but coursing inside the animate and inanmate objects and being the most important characters, even before us humans.

These two beliefs also fuel my creativity and make me appreacite the mystery of questions that cant be answered because our human mind are incapabable of finalizing satisfying results, but smart enough to ask these wurdtions.

To me these questions aim at acknoledging God's existence, power and greatness.

I want to glorify Adonai through my words and deeds, through my writings and music, my musings and ponderings, through the art I interpret and create during my lifetime.

God is the answer.

That's all I really need to know to still my inquisitive nature.

I think this encompasses the way he felt when he was younger, in those rough teenage years when he didn't think there was anyone whom he could turn to for help. By the end of it, he was already starting to loathe people and isolate himself to the point it was tearing him a part. There aren't many that I can think to describe him, none that didn't come to me as clearly as that one did. In comparison to Jun, that's all he ever wanted, for people to be nice to him and to like him as a whole for who he was. At the same time, I don't think that the quote does him proper justice in describing who he is now. Hopefully when I find one, I'll come back and reblog this post with the quote attached.

Nicknames: The Third Child, Puppy Boy, Baka Shinji

Species: Human

Occupation: Student/Musician/Mech Pilot

Abilities: Shinji is considered a prodigy when it comes to both music and piloting an Evangelion.

Short Bio: Shinji is an Evangelion pilot known for his social awkwardness and tendency to dwell on things. Shinji is the son of the supreme commander of NERV, but was abandoned at an early age and raised by a number of guardians the latest of which Major Misato Katsuragi who he considers an older sister figure.

Shinji has two distinct personalities. Outside the cockpit he’s shy and self deprecating but when faced with someone he cares about being threatened by an angel Shinji becomes a highly dangerous almost rabid fighter prone to having his Eva tear enemies limb from limb.

Currently Shinji is trying his best to open up and build confidence in himself as he tries to balance his relationship with Asuka, his duties as an Eva pilot and the being a high school student.

Asuka Langley Soryu

Nicknames: The Second Child, Princess

Age: 14-18

Height: 5’1

Species: Human

Occupation: Student/Mech Pilot

Abilities: Asuka is a genius who is well versed in biochemistry, bio computing, mechanical engineering, genetics, gymnastics, kickboxing, and knife fighting.

Short Bio: Asuka is the most highly trained of the Eva pilots and is famous for her sharp tongue and incredibly level of pride. While she doesn’t have Shinji’s innate skills as a pilot but she more than compensates with the amount of training she’s done in order to fight at a level that goes beyond the other pilots.

At first glance Asuka comes off as prideful, full of herself and slightly mean. She tends to speak is a dramatic manner, is quite flirtatious and reverts to her native German frequently. However, in reality she has about the same level of self hatred as Shinji himself does.

Right now Asuka is attempting to make friends in Japan, who won’t ruin her image, and push Shinji in completing with her for the part of top pilot aka flirting.

Aki Soryu-Ikari

Nicknames: Aki-Chan

Age: 4-6

Height: Small

Species: Human

Occupation: Student

Abilities: None yet.

Short Bio: Aki is Shinji and Asuka’s daughter from one possible future where the world was destroyed and they became the last humans on earth. Somehow Aki managed to go back in time and currently lives with her parents in their teenage years.

Unlike her more serious messed up parents Aki is full of boundless optimism and love for everyone.
