There is an idea present in the Jedi Council’s tellings of the origins of the Jedi Civil War – not just in the KOTOR games and tie-ins but SWTOR’s Galactic Timeline as well – that you can trace the troubles in the Mandalorian Wars and the origin of the Jedi Civil War back to Revan and Malak’s defiance of the Council’s order to stay out of the Mandalorian Wars. That Revan and Malak’s fall was rooted in the hubris of thinking that they knew better than the Council. That if only Revan, Malak, the Exile and their cohort hadn’t disobeyed, then everything would have been fine.
I don’t think that everything would have been fine if Revan and Malak had just obeyed the Council. The Mandalorians would have continued with their invasion of the Republic, killing hundreds of billions of people. The True Sith Empire still wouldn’t have revealed themselves.
Eventually, Mandalore the Ultimate would have decided that the time was right to force the Jedi to enter the war, on the Mandalorians’ terms rather than the Order’s or the Republic’s. One advantageous way to do this would have been to uncover the location of the Dantooine Enclave, the Jedi’s primary base in the Outer-rim, and nuke the planet from orbit. The True Sith Empire still wouldn’t have revealed themselves.
Having been directly attacked, the surviving members of the Jedi Council would have been forced to enter the war, whether or not they believed the shadowy threat might still be a problem. Their inaction would have devastated the reputation of the Jedi in the Republic and neutral worlds – the Jedi stood by and allowed trillions to die, only getting involved when it was their own necks on the line. Revan, Malak, and the other Jedi who wanted to enter the war earlier would have been furious that the Council had countermanded them from acting on their own better judgment only for this to be the result. The split in the Order still would have happened, just differently.
But I think that the Revanchist Jedi had their own equivalent of this idea – that if the Jedi Council had just answered the Republic’s call to war like the Revanchists everything would have gone better, and the Jedi Civil War would have been avoided. I think they were wrong too.
Given Mandalore the Preserver’s account of the Mandalorian high command’s assessment of the potential threat of a Jedi contingent led by Master Kavar, I imagine the war would have continued to go badly for the Republic under Kavar’s leadership until Revan and Malak became desperate enough to assassinate Kavar so Revan could take his place as supreme commander. Possibly after the Mandalorians assassinated, injured or otherwise took out of commission battle-meditation prodigy Padawan Bastila Shan. Revan and Malak still would have arced through a decent to become fallen heroes. The split in the Order still would have happened, just differently.

On: The Fallacy of Heroics
Tumblr media
//Something I keep thinking about (inspired by another's meta (hi nox!)) is muses not appreciating/undermining their positive trait/s because they see it as a given, as necessary, as obligate. This is true for all my muses to various degrees, but I keep looping back to how it intersects with Sasume's valor and compassion.
See: how BotW Sa (or, depending on lore, many a LoZ Sa) gets mistaken for The Hero. More specifically how, despite how much she'll snort and scoff and roll her eyes about being called such... she wishes it were true. Wishes she could be seen as a paragon, be a paragon, know it to be true.
Have irrefutable proof she's not a monster.
But she isn't The Hero, and so she doesn't. This is, in part, why she thinks so little of her aspirations of pacifism, of her genuine heroics, of her worldview being rooted in compassion and her behaving accordingly.
After all, what is when 'monster' and 'heroic' are used in the same breath but ironic? No, more than that, a monster— a beast— doing heroics is not 'good', but merely balancing the scales. Compensation to justify its existence. Begging and pleading and scrambling to try and find a place in the world, force a place in the world, as if kindness can manifest care can manifest want can manifest belonging.
To undo the fact she's made to be an outsider, a wanderer, who can stop anywhere but rest nowhere?
What is she, if not a boogeyman made manifest? Ill omens and slaughter made manifest, forced into human skin? Claws and teeth and bloodshed barely restrained?
Such a creature— such a thing— being kind, or virtuous, can never truly be so. Not really. Just mysterious and questions to add the enigma, to add even more unpredictability and thus add even more fear. It is not good. It can never be so.
(Or: the ends are the means, and a monster's actions can never be anything but monstrous.)

Kirby Star Allies is one of, if not my absolute favorite Kirby games, and I recognize while it's on paper one of the weaker entries in the core series, it appeals to me personally on multiple levels and I think I should revisit it more
#musings#kirby#no the reasons don't begin and end with 'dark meta knight is playable'#but that is a very big reason#to expand on it i think the dlc dream friends were amazingly designed#they still fit into the structure and playstyle of a playable kirby character but they also still feel like bosses#using dmk as an example they took his boss fight from triple deluxe and made it into a playable character#preserving most of his moves and adding new ones in the same vein#before unlocking dmk i played as marx and was surprised by how faithful he felt to his boss fight#and of course being able to augment these characters' movesets with elemental upgrades makes it even better#guest star allies was a great addition because if i want to i can play through the whole game in one sitting#as dark meta knight with fire powers#that's like my ideal kirby experience right there#did i mention the dlc was all free and very well-crafted?#that's not a given nowadays so i'm very appreciative of that#i also like the mage sisters and the lore implications the game offers#fransisca and flamberge are quite possibly the first lesbians in a kirby game#and they're ALSO playable! with their full boss movesets!#you can even tag out to the other elemental nuns whenever you want#so they're three very strong characters in one package#i seriously need to finish completing my save file in star allies so i can just start up a dmk or mage sisters run whenever i want#that would be nice i think#but of course because of the main mechanic being related to having teammates i can bring both characters with me#including in other guest star allies runs#because if i want to i can just ride their back and control them that way#i wonder how easy it would be to cheese a hard guest star allies run by piggybacking off an op dream friend

Galacta is laying in a field near the castle, enjoying the breeze and the distant sound of people as the sun warms him.
He also... Maaaay be there in hopes a certain someone notices him. Though he truthfully has no idea if said individual is around there.
At least he can relax regardless.

i just wanna say that this
Tumblr media
turning out like this
Tumblr media
is (heartbreaking but also) so heartwarming. and almost kind of comforting in a weird way. of course it hurt to see steven fall of the boat. especially because he was also worthy of entering the field of reeds. he should have gotten to see it too (and jake too of course).
but there is also something very beautiful about the fact that it was only marc there.
he made it there for a reason. even without them. and in a way, i think he needed that. he needed to see it, quite literally so that he may one day actually start to believe it. that he alone is worthy too. even without steven and jake.

The Night That Changed an Angel (or, why does Aziraphale still wear that shabby vest?)
Tumblr media
Mini-Meta Musing (#4)
I've been brooding for a long time about, of all things, Aziraphale's worn velvet vest and the long cream jacket he's kept in "tip top condition for over 180 years now." I love the sweet familiarity, but this is the same angel who popped across the Channel and almost lost his fluffy-topped head in 1793 for dressing like an aristocrat.
"I have standards!"
Tumblr media
He's the height of elegance, extravagance even. A dandy. We've seen the same at the Globe Theater 1601, Edinburgh 1827, and even as a Knight of the Round Table in 527 Essex, where he's wearing a glorious pelt across his shoulders! However, sometime after Edinburgh 1827, Aziraphale's stylish extravagance ends. He adopts the dress of distinguished but modest gentility. No seamstresses strain their eyes for days hand stitching ruffles and trims for him any longer. When we next see him in 1862, his clothing is refined, simple, and serviceable. It becomes his uniform, with only minor replacements. Why? What happened to change him?
Edinburgh 1827 happened. And his encounter with tragedy ran over his sensibilities like a locomotive.
Aziraphale had, we were told, saved his earnings over time and had bought land, invested wisely, and became quite well off. He used real money, not miracles, to build the bookshop, paying the builders well and taking care of bills honestly. He built himself up to a more than comfortable lifestyle, from nearly nothing. And his clothes are real, not miracled from nothingness like Crowley's. (source: original showrunner)
Aziraphale's wealth allows him to afford luxurious tailoring and fancy shoes and ruffles and trims. He'll certainly pay the cobblers and tailors and seamstresses well for their labors. It will be a substantial expense for the era. (The linked post gives a wonderful perspective on 1793 lifestyles and costs.)
https://agoodflyting.tumblr.com/post/753227014283083776/why-aziraphales-white-satin-pumps-are-ridiculous
The angel's Edinburgh multilayered and trimmed top coat, soft leather gloves, matching scarf, jacquard vest, silk cravat, etc., look entirely out of place in the back alleys where the poor huddle. Walking the clean, gas-lit avenues with Crowley and Elspeth, Aziraphale is oblivious to the privilege he has in this world.
Tumblr media
As he strolls along in philosophical banter with Crowley about the "blessing" of poverty, the angel spouts trite pontifications created by the rich to justify poverty. He genuinely believes Elspeth has more opportunities for goodness.  After all, look at Wee Morag.  He respects her goodness tremendously.  It proves to him his “rightness.”  And so he sabotages Elspeth’s attempt to sell the body she dug up in her attempt to support Wee Morag.  Dalrymple gets no body, Elspeth gets no money, and Aziraphale believes he’s saving her soul.
It’s a poignant moment, though, when Aziraphale cradles the jar containing a tumor from a seven year old child who died because there wasn’t enough medical knowledge to save him.  Turning point number one.  It becomes Real, not a philosophical debate.  Selling stolen bodies puts good in the world.  He’s all for it now, and goes back to encourage Elspeth.  Good heavens, he’s even willing to help this time!
Tumblr media
But, as we know, it all goes wrong.  Wee Morag is shot by a grave gun, and dies of her injuries.  Elspeth steals laudanum, and plans suicide.  Crowley drinks the laudanum, saves her in a compassionate Scottish frenzy, and is stolen away by hell because of his kindness.   And it is All. Aziriphale’s. Fault.
Turning point number two.  Another watershed moment where Aziraphale’s world changes again.
One of Crowley’s last earthly acts, before getting plunged into hell, is to have Aziraphale give Elspeth all of his pocket money.  What is pocket money to the angel is a fortune to her, one that can set her up for a better life.  I have no doubt that in the aftermath of the traumas of that night, missing and worrying about Crowley, Aziraphale thinks about all of this.  He considers all of the money he casually spends on fine clothing and expensive tailoring.  He wonders how many lives could change if that money was better spent on helping to relieve the poverty that surrounds him.  He wants to help, and to try to make amends for the harm he caused.  What would Crowley do, if he were free to be kind? And so Aziraphale changes.
I’d love to know the story of how it all played out.  Did he sell his fine clothing and donate the proceeds?  Did he become involved in charitable foundations?  Did he buy the clothing of a simple gentleman and decide to preserve it, however worn it became, as a reminder to himself of his past blindness and vanity?  We see in Season 1 how important it is to him to preserve that coat. (Sure, it's also a fantastic opportunity to flirt and flutter those angelic eyelashes... But, nonetheless!)
Tumblr media
By Season 2, the angel who took too long justifying a life-saving miracle for Wee Morag, and who hesitated to give Elspeth his 90 Guineas, willingly and freely gave Maggie forgiveness for thousands of pounds of debt. I'd love to know what else he's done over the last 180+ years!
Whatever happened, it began that night in a graveyard.

Reincarnation is a tricky thing
A/N: This was sort of inspired by this post from @nerdpoe and the rebblogs of it. I came across it again scrolling through tumblr and reread it during my break and couldn't help but continue thinking about DC characters being a different version or a reincarnation of people Danny knew. Blame the too many reincarnation or isekai light novels / manwhas / mangas I read if you want.
At first Danny didn't mind it. Becoming the Ghost King had its pros but its cons as he learned later on. By accepting the title he had become an interdimensional being, and thus had gotten kicked out of the reincarnation cycle. Clockwork nor Pandora thought about telling him that sooner. But in a way Danny still didn't mind it.
He still got to watch and protect his friends and family or at least their souls and reincarnations. Though there were some things with the recent one he definitely did not expect. For one, Dan wasn't part of the reincarnation cycle either, so to pass the years he took up the same position Fright Knight had. Danny suspected that it was more to spent time with his ghostly best friend than actually doing Danny a favor.
Dani on the other hand had become a part of the reincarnation cycle, he hadn't liked how her childhood had been but once the reincarnation of his father took her in things started to turn better for his once upon a time clone sister.
He laughed at the fact that his mother in this life had become a thief, well at least she wasn't ghost obsessed but he wasn't sure if cats were a better one considering a lot of the things she stole were cat themed. But at least she still had a thing for his dad.
The man was still a lovable oaf but different, more stoic and short worded but when he put on acts for the public Danny could see hints of his previous life shining through. His dad was still a genius and inventing things that added him and his goals in protecting the city. Just like he did previously, just a little less extreme and upfront.
Jazz wasn't his dads and mothers direct daughter this time around but she still got counted as a daughter in a way as he watched her becoming a crime fighter alongside his father and the kids his dad picked up before an incident made her take up more of a operator like position. And ancients did Danny cackle watching Jazz still pulling one over everyone every time she gathered information on their family.
He was sad to see how Sam's life went but at the same time he was proud of her. Undergrowth's influence had swapped over into this life for her and he watched how as a criminal at first she continued to fight for what she believed was right. He was definitely happy when he saw her fall in love and turn a new leaf.
Tucker was not as electronic affine as he was before but he had what the humans started to call Meta Powers now. It was funny, whenever Danny compared his usually brain behind the scenes best friend with the vigilante that got mentored by his father.
All in all he was definitely happy with the life's his family has gotten this turn. Even if the start of some of their lives wasn't as ideal as it was supposed to be. He still hadn't figured out where Vlad's reincarnation was and to the ancients he hoped he wasn't the crazy clown obsessed with his dad. That would be just wrong.
Still as he watched them he couldn't help but muse at the knowledge that he originally was supposed to be among them. He also knew who he was supposed to be, thanks to clockwork but that boy had gotten a brand new soul, one that hadn't been in the cycle before. He wasn't mad at that but just a tiny bit sad. He would have loved to become a vigilante alongside his father too, even if this version of him was socially awkward and instead of space had a fascination with animals and art.
He still would have loved to live among them but he had gotten kicked out of the reincarnation cycle so all he could do was watch over them. It still made him feel giddy whenever he found another soul of the ones he had known before.
That was until the cultist decided to use would-be-him as a sacrifice to summon the interdimensional being that was atactual-him and he ended up face to face with some stupid soul magic mumbo jumbo tied to the kid.
Clockwork was laughing at him, he just knew this was pure entertainment for the ancient of time. Pandora was most likely shaking her head and Dan was probably literally rolling on the ground of his throne room laughing.
"You are supposed to be me, aren't you?" The boy had whispered wide eyed and Danny huffed in annoyance as he saw a familiar fear flit across the boy's eyes. A fear he had seen with Dan as well as Dani so long ago before.
"Don't talk bullshit kid. I am an Ancient being. This is your life." He was just now stuck having Danny tied to him like a guardian angel while being the only one able to see him clearly. How was he going to explain to the kid that he was entirely his own soul and not tied to Danny at all aside from taking his place in the reincarnation cycle without mentioning that nearly half the people in the kids life where his family and friends previously?
Danny was starting to have a crisis stuck to his would-be-him in the mortal realm and all he could think was to yell at Dan and Clockwork to stop laughing!

I would assume a more probable situation is something close to Elyan in S4 - they had to 'turn on him' because there was a possibility that he was enchanted (because who else would do that. apart from an enchanted Gwen, that is). and when it turned out to be a misunderstanding, everything was cool again
the distance resulted in suspision towards one particular knight, and it might slightly involuntarily spread on others in 5x05 but that's all, I think
I submit: the distance between Merlin and Knights+Gwen in S5 wasn't because of the Knights+Gwen. Consider it being Merlin's own doing.

I think part of what makes Dark Meta Knight so much fun in Kirby Star Allies is nobody knows what he's even DOING there. The pause flavor text calls his motivations into question, and in Guest Star Allies he's referred to as the "uninvited" knight. It all sounds shady as heck, but... he's sincerely there to help. Not even in an edgy, reluctant way either. He takes part in the goofy Kirby dances. He does all the ridiculous team moves with everyone. He greets Kirby and friends with a cheery wave whenever he's summoned. In his Guest Star Allies ending portrait, he's seen drawing with Adeleine, Ribbon, and Daroach. Badly. But like. He's TRYING. He puts his own spin on things, ending the Kirby dance with a dramatic sword pose, introducing himself with the same animation he uses in Triple Deluxe, and the thing he's attempting to draw is, of course, his own sword. He's engaging with Kirby and friends in good faith and making an earnest effort to participate. That's so cute. And then you play as him and realize "Oh there's no way they just let you use these moves without a catch. Oh he's the best character in the game isn't he"
