Ostagar, 9:30 Dragon
{ Starter for @atonings - "Loghain" } The thrum of activity in the camp around her felt muted in her ears. Voices, the barks of the Ash Warriors’ hounds and the loud, chaotic banging sounds of hammers on wood as the King’s Army constructed last minute fortifications…
All of it sounded as if she were hearing it from under water. Elissa had felt physically… ‘strange’… to say nothing of her heart, the entire way from Highever to the camp at Ostagar. In sleep, she was plagued with persistent, dogged constancy by the images, sounds, and smells of that night when everything changed. More than once on the road from Highever, Elissa had woken up to being pinned down, with Duncan's hand clamped over her mouth as she thrashed and screamed - seized by night terrors.
It was hardly better during the daylight, when she moved, ate, and spoke with a rote, dull, almost tranquil quality...
Tumblr media
She had not forgotten Duncan’s instructions to seek out one of the other Wardens with the name ‘Alistair’, but after wanting to find Fergus - the first thing she had resolved to do the morning after they had escaped the perimeter of Howe’s men-at-arms, had been to speak with Teyrn Loghain. To what precise end, she had not quite figured out, but she was at a loss for what else she could do - especially since the immediate circumstances prevented her from setting out into the Korcari Wilds to find her brother.
There was also a gut-wrenching, insidious train of thought that clawed at the back of her mind that speaking with him might put to rest.
Rendon Howe was known to be many things, and a foolishly reckless man was not one of them. He would not have taken such a drastic action without certain assurances - but what assurances? Cailan’s astonishment at the news of the Cousland slaughter had thrown that very question into a sharp light…
How could he believe he could get away with such treachery?
Elissa was not sure she wanted to know the answer.
Her back straightened her chin tilted up as she approached the guard to Teyrn of Gwaren’s tent. She did her best to project her usual noble authority when requesting an audience, but to any who knew her even decently well, her voice would sound gutted and hollow. And anyone with a keen sense of observation, let alone someone who had known her since birth as the Teyrn had, would be able to see she suffered beneath her numbed exterior...

dragon age character study fic recs
I'm back with another fic rec list, this time focusing on character studies! There were so many more than five that I flagged as interesting 👀 when I was putting this together, so there's definitely a chance that this theme makes a repeat in the future.
Check these awesome fics out! And leave a comment + kudos to let the author know you did💜
Vote in this poll to help me choose a theme for next week's rec list (:

New Tricks by Penknife (@penknife)
Dorian Pavus & Cullen Rutherford, Josephine Montilyet & Cullen Rutherford & Leliana | G | 1968 words | No Archive Warnings Apply Author's Summary: Five times Cullen found that he didn't have to do everything the hard way. Mer's Rec: If you're into Cullen & Dorian friendship, or really any Cullen friendship, this fic will be right up your alley. Penknife does an excellent job of contrasting Dorian as a beleaguered academic (beloved) with Cullen's quieter intelligence. They also highlight Cullen as a strategist and commander, not just the "send the troops" guy, and the advisor interactions resonate with coworker friend energy, which I loved. I always adore fics that explore Cullen's habits and traits leftover from so many years as a Templar and this story seamlessly weaves in those details, which brings a real depth to both Cullen and his interactions.
Names Are Cloaks by EllanaSan
Female Adaar & Josephine Montilyet | G | 2963 words | No Archive Warnings Apply Author's Summary: They can’t have that, she supposes, the Herald of Andraste being called names behind her back… The only way the situation could have been worse is if she had been an elf. She could tell the ambassador that there are people in this very camp disrespecting her at every turn but she is far too used to it to care. They call her oxwoman. They call her witch. They call her chosen or your worship. They call her Tal-Vashoth. Names are weapons. For the bearer to hold and to wield. Names are cloaks. For the bearer to wrap themselves in and discard when outgrown. Mer's Rec: With Bioware's scant lore about Qunari and the Qun, I was impressed by how this story immersed me in Adaar's history. Tidbits from canon interwoven with fascinating-slash-heartbreaking details about the Qun, Vashoth, and Saarebas, plus her introspective musings on the past and her identity make this Adaar stand out from the cookie-cutter protagonist in the best way. I want to know more about her! From Josephine's dialogue and mannerisms to the uncertainty, fear, and alienation the Herald can experience in Haven, everything about this story feels like it could be straight out of the DAI canon.
I have outlived the night by lilith_morgana (@senseandaccountability)
Loghain Mac Tir, Minor/Background Relationships | T | 2106 words | Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Author's Summary: He's five, he's eighteen, nineteen, twenty, forty-six, and fifty-five, he's fifty-six, fifty-seven and ready to die. Instead, he lives. Mer's Rec: The emotion in this fic is so palpable, so visceral, and it slaps you in the face the way careful consideration of complicated characters should. With repeated contrasts between Loghain in his youth versus his later years, the author takes us on a journey from hot-headed kid to weary veteran, and it just makes your heart ache😭 It features strong exposition on Loghain's motives, feelings, and regrets during the Fifth Blight, which I love to see since it's fairly absent from the game itself. Their portrayal of Loghain in Inquisition also felt fresh and different, including a conversation with Cullen, which is a dynamic I hadn't considered before and found incredibly interesting to read. And of course it ends on a bittersweet note, as it always does with Loghain.
To Yield Is Not Weak by disasterhawke
Alistair/Anora Mac Tir | M | 4018 words | Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Author's Summary: She may not like her new husband, but Anora Theirin is not about to let the world treat him like it has treated her. She will do whatever it takes to earn his trust. This is not quite what he expects. An Anora character study that explores her arranged marriage to her husband's bastard brother. Mer's Rec: this 👏 was 👏 everything I wanted out of an Alistair/Anora fic! While I think antagonism between those two has a place, this fic explored their relationship through the lens of teaching and working together, rather than animosity. It works SO well and there was a definite give-and-take, with Anora running the show immediately post-coronation, but gradually softening her harsher edges and highlighting Alistair's strengths while they grow as rulers. Anora's internal monologue, not only about Alistair, but also Cailan and Loghain, does a fantastic job showing the humanity she usually has to hide, without diminishing her competence in the least.
when the bough breaks by gummies (orphaned)
Morrigan, Flemeth | G | 1124 words | No Archive Warnings Apply Author's Summary: In her hands, the mouse is kept still. The only movement Morrigan feels from it is the beating of its tiny heart. With her eyes closed, it almost seems that she is holding in her hands its heart alone. Tiny, vulnerable, and so stutteringly fast. It must be afraid, Morrigan muses. Something twinges in her chest. Empathy. She cannot help the flare of protectiveness inside her. For now, the mouse is hers. Plucked from the world from whence it came, tucked away and safe. She wonders if this is how Mother feels of her. Mer's Rec: What struck me most about this fic was the author's grasp of character voices. Flemeth is just as cunning and calculating as she comes across in game, but I was beyond impressed by their young!Morrigan. I could see and hear so clearly how Morrigan would get from the childlike hope she has in this story to the harsher, bitter Morrigan we meet in game. I don't even know how they did that, but it was incredible to read, even as this slice of Morrigan's childhood and her abuse at Flemeth's hands was breaking my heart.
Don't forget to get your fic and art recs lined up for tomorrow's Fan Work Friday!

hi, welcome to dadwc!! how about "Your strength and courage inspire me every day, but it’s your heart that I’ve fallen for." from the battle partners prompt list for maric/loghain?
ooh, yes!! i've modified the quote a bit to make it feel more in character, but here's what i got!!
@jazzmckay | @dadrunkwriting
i'll place the stars within your eyes
maric x loghain
rating: t | words: 1313
summary: sometimes, the only way to make your friend become a noble is to both realise your gay feelings for each other and make out about it.
A strong knock echoed through the hard wood of the doors to his chambers. Rowan had yet to move in, she had matters to attend to back in Redcliffe before the wedding and the coronation. The only other person who would knock on his door at this hour was Loghain. Normally, he would shout a response, but he was quite concentrated on pouring out two glasses of wine. Plus, Loghain knew he could enter anyway. They had little to hide from each other. After all, they'd been beside each other at their worst and best.
The door creaked open and Maric looked up with a sheepish smile. Maker, Loghain was beautiful, especially when he was out of his armour for once. Lithe but broad, strong and quiet. That was Loghain Mac Tir. "Hero of the River Dane is such a long name, isn't it?" Maric mused, offering a wine glass to his friend. Loghain took it and stood just out of arms-reach from him.
He hated how far away Loghain was. They'd been like this ever since Loghain had told him to commit to marrying Rowan. The three of them hadn't been the same and frankly, it bothered him. They all fought beside each other, but their friendship had been strained. "The important people know my name," Loghain responded after taking a long sip from his cup. "Is this really the best people could offer you?"
Maric laughed, a soft, dopey smile making its way across his face. "Blame the Orlesians. I think this is some swill from Orlais anyway. There's so much leftover it doesn't make sense to throw it out. I'll just gift it out to my vassals so I can start getting proper drink here," he sighed. He moved closer to top off Loghain's cup. Any excuse to have him close.
"Gift them to traitors. It'd be fun to watch them squirm," Loghain suggested, the corner of his mouth quirking up. For a face usually so sour, it was nice to see a positive emotion on it. Also, his face was beautiful.
Maric was probably overstepping, but he grabbed Loghain's face and tilted it. There was a new scar running up his chin. He ran his thumb along it. "You've seen the healers?" he inquired. When he realised he was holding Loghain's cheek, he quickly withdrew his hand and muttered an apology.
"It's just a small cut," Loghain protested. Maric gave him a look, which he hoped said 'You know better.' He watched Loghain battle with the thought in his head. Eventually he relented, "Fine, I'll go tomorrow."
"That's my man," Maric said, taking a long sip from his wine. Loghain took the bottle from him and topped up his glass. Something in his blue eyes spoke of a hunger that Maric couldn't name. He wished he saw that look more.
He took another sip of wine. "If I make you teyrn, you'll want to have a pretty face. An infected scar would look quite ugly, in my opinion," Maric suggested. He waited, staring at the drink left in his cup.
"Teyrn?" Loghain sputtered, a spray of wine leaving his mouth. "The others won't like it, I'm not noble."
"I wouldn't be saying it if I didn't think they'd accept it. Gwaren needs a teyrn to oversee the area. Plus, I'm certain the other nobles soil their drawers at the thought of confronting you. Your rugged, hero look does that these days," Maric responded, putting a hand on Loghain's shoulder.
He left his other reasons unsaid. He was pretty sure Loghain knew them anyway. He shouldn't need to say that he needed Loghain nearby, supporting him as he had since Moira's death. Since they joined the rebel forces. He needed Loghain to know his work was valued, that his birth didn't diminish the work he did for Ferelden. For Maric.
Those blue eyes drew him back into the present, a grim look crossing his face as he was processing the idea of him being a teyrn. "My rugged hero look?" Loghain questioned, cocking an eyebrow. Maric felt heat rush to his cheeks as he realised what he said. So he took another sip of wine as Loghain continued, "Look, I appreciate the thought but I'm not made for governing. Commanding I can do."
That wasn't true. Loghain was probably better than himself at governing. After all, he was the one who set Maric's head on straight. He helped concoct the scheme to get rid of disloyal banns and he helped his father run the refugee camp. He had the skills, Loghain just needed to see it.
"You... You don't get it do you?" Maric stammered. Words. He needed to form coherent words. He set down his wine glass and grabbed the collar of his shirt. He pulled Loghain into a searing kiss. If only that kiss could say how much he needed Loghain at his side. How much better Loghain was being a noble, how much better he was at being competent, how much better he was than Maric.
He vaguely heard the shattering of glass and he felt hands pulling his waist closer. Maric ran his fingers through Loghain's long black hair. Lips moved against lips and bodies pressed impossibly closer. Loghain was here with him, safe and within reach. Where Maric could ask him for anything and he knew Loghain would stop at nothing to give it to him.
When they both pulled apart to catch their breath, Maric caught Loghain's panicked look. He gripped his face so he was looking at him. "You saved me. You hated me, but you protected me anyway. You followed me even when you wanted to leave. Every day I thank the Maker you stayed beside me because I know without your sword I would be dead," he panted. His heart demanded he kiss Loghain again so he did.
Feather light bliss. Their lips barely touched, but it felt so right. Maybe that's why he needed Loghain. He grounded him. He fulfilled him. On his right hip, Loghain's calloused thumb traced circles. Maric needed to keep him here. Here Loghain was predictable. He was close. "How long?" Loghain asked. "H- how long?"
The man pressed kisses along Maric's jawline and he sighed into him. "I don't know. I just knew I needed you. I always have since we met," he whined.
"You're everything I wish I was. Your strength, your courage. That inspires me every day. But that's not why I like you-- why I need you at my side," he said, his voice deeper than its usual timbre. Maric slid his left hand down to Loghain's chest. "Your heart. You don't like others to know but you care so deeply for me and for her. I'm a person to you."
They stood still for a moment, in a close embrace. Maric's hand rested over Loghain's heart. Eventually, a hand tilted his chin up so that he was staring into Loghain's eyes. That hunger was still there, but with a new tenderness alongside it. "Please Loghain, let me make you a teyrn," Maric begged with a soft voice. "Let me tell Ferelden that the Hero of the River Dane is worthy of taking care of others."
Loghain sighed and pressed a kiss into Maric's forehead. "If it would please you," he responded in that grave voice of his. Maric surged up to kiss Loghain again.
"It very much would," he murmured into the kiss. "I don't know if I could face the courts without my intimidating protector."
Loghain chuckled into the kiss and pulled back. "You're lucky I'm out of my leather because these clothes are easier to take off," he growled.
Maric was in for a night of new experiences and new ideas, filled with newfound hope for the future and filled with the sensation of being absolutely needed and desired.

@kachoufuei inquired: ☹
For every ☹ I get I will show a sample of a muse I used to play but don’t anymore. Or send a ☻ for a muse I would like to play, but haven’t yet! | Accepting!
Tumblr media
         "We can't seriously be considering this, can we? I mean - raiding the King's cupboard for snacks is one thing, that'd be funny at least - but we're talking state secrets here! Duncan would lose his mind if he were here. So would Eamon, come to think. Are you really okay with this?" The blond shifts uncomfortably in his armor. Sure, somewhere in his mind, he knows he has some right to these documents. He is Cailan's brother, after all. But something about it just feels so...wrong.
         But, unfortunately, as per usual, the Warden is persuasive. He makes good points, especially about using the documents against Loghain at the Landsmeet later. "Fine, alright, I'll go along with it. But just so you know, if we need someone to distract the guards, Zevran is going to be the one dressing up in the frilly pantaloons, not me. Once was enough, thanks." As if on cue - or specifically to torment him - Zevran chimes in from the back of the party.
Tumblr media
         "Mm... Alright, I'm game. When do we start, Alistair?" Spoken in his most sultry tone, as if trying to get a rise out of the other man.
Tumblr media
         "What? I- no. I'm not-- I'm going to- stand. Over here. Yes. Away from whatever this whole...situation is. Goodbye." And off our heroic prince stomps, far off to the side, while Zevran and Morrigan laugh at him.

Happy friday Ro!!! For DADWC this week, how about Loghain & [Warden of your choosing] with "[ scream ] for our muses to find something horrific" and/or "you don't need to protect me" from the quiet muses prompts?
THANK YOU I chose Rhiannon tonight, since I'm in a ghoulish mood. For @dadrunkwriting
Relationship: Rhiannon Mahariel & Loghain Mac Tir Rating: Gen Words: 844 Summary: Rhiannon and Loghain meet again in my DAI-era fic. This is one of the nights they spend in Crestwood, before they part ways — for Rhiannon to continue her search for the cure, and Loghain to meet the Inquisitor. This canon ascribes to the idea that Mahariel is especially ghoulish, on account of being tainted before their Joining.
~~~
Loghain hadn’t aged a day since his Joining. In fact, the longer Rhiannon looked at him, the more she was convinced that Wardenhood had made him appear younger.
In the meanwhile, she had grown more tainted. More brittle. More dead.
She shook her head to cast that thought away. It would do no good to lose sleep over it now.
Merrill and Zevran slept in the cave behind them as Rhiannon joined Loghain on watch. The two untainted souls slept more soundly than either of the others had in some years, Rhiannon was sure. When Loghain stirred the fire and looked up at her with a question in his sharp blue eyes, she gave him a simple, tight smile.
His gaze dropped to her mouth, then away with a wince.
She’d forgotten that her lips were almost black now, and any teeth she showed were likely grey. She wondered if her eyes still reflected the firelight like an elf’s, or if they were darkspawn eyes now. She didn’t bother to ask.
They sat in silence for a good while, passing a wineskin back and forth between them like in far away, simpler times. Back when the two of them concerned themselves only with killing archdemons and darkspawn. Back when Loghain being sent to Montsimmard was the most painful trial.
“I meant to bring the dog back for you.”
Rhiannon smiled at Loghain’s lack of preamble. He had always been so direct, and it was refreshing now just as it had been when she’d befriended him against all odds a decade ago. “I assumed he’d died, since he isn’t with you. Can’t imagine a mabari would leave his master.”
“Yes,” Loghain grumbled. “A year ago, in fact. I meant to write you, but could never summon the words. I meant to do a great many things.”
“They have a way of getting away from us,” Rhiannon muttered.
The fire sputtered and cracked. A log shifted among the coals as it burnt away.
Loghain took a deep breath, as if rousing himself from a daydream. “He was tainted, yes? Like us.”
“Like us. I helped him recover at Ostagar, with the help of a little flower from the Wilds. The kennel master never did teach me how to repeat that trick.”
Loghain nodded. He crossed his arms over his raised knees. “Seemed that way, especially at the end. I expected him to have many more years with me, but he began to lose his fur, then his teeth. At first I worried he’d fought some rabid animal, then I realised.”
Rhiannon reached out and touched his hand. With a grunt, Loghain took it in his large, rough, enveloping one and squeezed.
“Did you let him go?”
Another grunt. “I took no joy in it. He was a magnificent creature, more worthy of the Grey than any Orlesian in the Order. What took three of them he could accomplish on his own. I once witnessed him lock jaws on a broodmother’s jugular and take her down. It caused me much grief to see him suffer.”
Her fingertips began to tingle, and she realised Loghain was gripping her hand tighter than he probably knew.
“I wanted to take him to the Deep Roads, to allow him a Warden’s death. Clarel would not hear of it.”
Rhiannon gritted her teeth. “He never would have left you.”
“I intended to go with him.”
Another log fell on its side, sending a spray of sparks up on the smoke that twirled towards the stars.
“I can’t fault Clarel then. Not for that.”
Loghain glanced up at her with a craggy scowl. She caught a glimpse of shine at the corner of his eye. “I did not wish another mabari to die in my arms, Warden Commander, much less at my own hand.”
Rhiannon hesitated — then, with a resigned scoff, she threw her arms around Loghain’s shoulders. He was tense for a moment, and Rhiannon expected him to shrug her off. To her surprise, he didn’t just relent. He slumped against her, and she felt the unmistakable shake of silent cries.
“You couldn’t have protected him from that,” she grumbled. She held him even tighter as she felt him drag a ragged breath in. “It was coming. It’s inevitable. And I’m so happy he had you at the end. That it was you.”
Loghain let out a shattered, angry sound. “It’s not inevitable. Don’t say that.”
“I’m still looking for a cure, aren’t I?”
His silence was a begrudging concession.
She moved to adjust herself — her hips ached from the odd angle, but the one she found was no better. She resigned herself to letting her knees poke Loghain’s hip as she awkwardly held him tighter still.
“You don’t need to protect me either, Loghain,” she murmured, then smiled sadly to herself when she felt his posture stiffen. “I’ll be alright.”
His silence, then, was not concession, but doubt. At the very least, he did not push back — he merely allowed her to hold him, until the fire faded down to coals.
Marina spent most of her life in Ferelden's Circle. Though somewhat sheltered and naive to the ways of the world beyond Kinloch Hold, she is possessed and guided by an innate certainty of right and wrong. Mutuals and non-mutuals can like this post to let me know they are interested in this character. This is just for me to know and remember your preference, not a guarantee we'll write/I'll follow!
Read rules and about page for canon divergences, and below for wanted interactions to make sure your muse fits. If you write a multi please specify in the comments which muses you mean, thank you!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Neria Surana (DAO) - elf (ex)mage Hero of Ferelden - potential follower
wanted interactions: DAO, DA2 and DAI, including oc and canon divergent characters; other Heroes of Ferelden (she could be a follower, see her about page). Other elf-friendly fandoms as long as her story doesn't have to change (various videogames, the Witcher, Lord of the Rings).
open to romantic interactions with: male humans and elves (chemistry based) and I'm easily open to ship her with Alistair or Zevran, and Cullen if we go canon divergent in DAO or we write them in DAI.
She would not interact with blood mages, people who are actively against elves (she'd refuse to talk) and Loghain.
Royal Palace, Denerim - 9:31 Dragon
{ Starter for @blightcd - “Loghain” }
Tumblr media
  Outside the palace, the wind whistled and howled through the narrow streets. The rain poured from the sky in relentless, heavy sheets - but none of those sounds could soak through the thick stone walls. No, oppressive silence hung very heavy in the small, windowless room, save for the soft crackling of the fire and the muted, raspy sounds of a man’s breathing.
  Elissa Cousland sat in a chair next to his bedside, leaning forward with her elbows on her knees, and her chin resting against her clutched hands as she watched Loghain’s chest rise and fall. Even her friends who still held her dear and supported her choice thought her a bit mad for choosing to forsake rest in favor of this. Memories of her own Joining had driven her, or so she told herself. She hadn’t had to wake from those nightmares alone - she would not let him do so either.   For a short few hours at least, this bedside vigil had given her a twisted sort of reprieve from the death and chaos that’d been forced on all of them by the Blight. Nothing else existed outside of this room, in these moments. Not until he woke. Not until the dawn broke and a host of new difficulties and challenges lay before them.
 Until dawn broke on the first day without Alistair...
  The thought drive a hot spike of pain into her chest, and she drew in a sharp breath through her nose, clenching her jaw tightly enough to hear it pop in an effort to choke back her grief. He’d been her friend. Her brother. Her sweet, shining light that gave her hope everything could be alright in the end. And with a single choice, he’d turned on her like a rabid dog, unable and unwilling to listen to any reason.
  Now their numbers were no better off than they’d been at the start. Exhaling with a shudder, she did her best to clear the overwhelming clouds of doubt and pain from her mind. It would serve no one, least of all herself, to get lost in them.   For now, all she could do was watch... wait... and pray to the Maker that she’d made the right choice.
word search tag game
thank you @nirikeehan and @demawrites for the tags <3 I did both your lists because I was having so much fun rolling around in my fics and wips like catnip
and tagging forward to @plisuu | @warpedlegacywrites | @fadedsweater | @rakshadow | and you, person looking for an excuse to do this meme! (it's fun, you should do it)
And you're looking for the words: comfortable, touch, mood, opposite, & answer
Broken - from an unpublished wip about my Lavellan siblings
Because what was the point? He hadn’t saved them all. That opinion wasn’t popular and she’d taken care to keep it to herself after one brutal encounter where a hotheaded soldier accused her of being ungrateful for her life. She’d broken his wrist rather than admit the truth: he was right. She would give her own life a thousand times over if it would bring back even one of her crew.
Tooth - from if our demons cannot dance (f!Hawke/Anders)
He gave her a rather toothless glare, before remembering that he was meant to be placating, apologizing. He was always apologizing to her, it seemed. He drew the cloth back to the basin, this time leaving it to float in the water, and tucked loose strands of hair behind Mari’s ear. “Comforting,” he said.
Stroll - from the unpublished Lavellan siblings wip
Luckily, most people failed to look up in their observations. He crept silently along the backside of the roof and leapt with ease across the other buildings, dropping down in a thicket of trees and strolling out just between the Chantry and the spymaster’s tent. The rest of the village was still asleep, or just barely stirring, but Leliana was already bent over a stack of reports, frowning.
Civilization - from an unpublished wip where Neria meets Clan Lavellan
The tripping of her wards woke Neria well before she felt the nudge of a blade under her chin. Templars was her first, panicked thought—but she was too far from any proper civilization for that to be the case, and Templars would have dispelled the wards rather than tripping them, anyhow. Bounty hunters were another story though. There was a moderate village off to the east and even if they didn’t know she was a mage, her pointed ears would fetch a pretty purse with slavers.
Satisfied - from Before My First Breath (f!Trevelyan & m!Trevelyan)
“I will divert Charter to this,” said Leliana. “She is my best. Perhaps, in the meantime, some of the concerns on the council might be assuaged by a brief accounting in your own words?” “A brief accounting,” Acacia mused, drumming her knuckles against the war table. “Will you be satisfied by one with some holes in it? There are questions I’m not prepared to answer.”
Soft - from in lieu of flowers (f!Hawke/Sebastian Vael)
A soft grind of mechanism against marble and the passage door slid open. Turning immediately, Sebastian drank her in like a man starved: her rough edges had gotten rougher, but she was here, alive and whole. The woman he loved who gave who heart to another and could never love him back. "Hawke—“ He started to smile, but something was off. She'd flinched—at his voice? Her name? And he realized, suddenly, that she held herself as stiff and aloof as she did when politicking. He crossed the chamber in three quick strides. "What's wrong? What happened? Is the Inquisition—“ “Oh, fuck the Inquisition.”
Shadow - from after all this survival (f!Hawke/Loghain Mac Tir)
He pulled her to his chest at the same moment that she surged forward and held her as she shook. It would have been easy to mistake her tears for grief, the tremors that wracked her frame for anguish. But he had seen those emotions in Siobhan: in the shadow of her brother’s departure; kneeling before a newly made orphan; watching the ashes of a one-time friend drift skyward from a secluded grove on Sundermount. This was not her grief.  This was her anger.
Cut - from if our demons cannot dance (f!Hawke/Anders)
“The Knight-Captain?” Bethany raised a skeptical eyebrow. “‘mages aren’t people like you and me’ that Knight-Captain?” “He’s been a bit too close to Meredith’s paranoia. But he cares about his people, his men. That’s something we can use. If we can just cut off the Knight-Commander, turn her firepower against her—maybe we can keep the casualties to a minimum.”
Curious - from hold my hope by the throat (f!Hawke & Carver, f!Hawke/Loghain)
The very air around them chilled, gone icy under Siobhan’s scorn. The Ferelden raised an eyebrow, unimpressed, though there was something calculating and curious behind his impassive gaze. “Neither,” he shrugged. “Merely tempering your expectations, and his.”
Hollow - from Softly Uttered Curse (f!Lavellan & Merrill)
Her reassurance didn’t ease the knot of anxiety in Neria’s chest, not really. But it hollowed out the worries creeping up her throat and gave her concern room to breathe. She ran her tongue over her teeth and one of her ears twitched flat against her head.
Hello!🎵 7 for all three of them? 👀
Hello! 💜
LOL this is FUN, thank you for asking this x°D
Tis the prompt list
7. a song that my muse always sings along to
Alyra: I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor She's not really that much serious. This, as a Warden, will be a big LOL. In a modern AU I can picture her opening a TikTok just to sing this song, tagging Loghain, and then forgetting her profile. Out of pettiness. "It's a big classic, it's so popular for a reason."
Raina: Angel of the Morning, Juice Newton Raina would sing along to basically everything. But this is the first that made me think "Yes Raina would love karaoke, I can picture her singing this at the top of her lungs, very out of tune but with a lot of passion", so. Just touch my cheek before you leave me, babyyyyy🎵
Aisling: Livin' on a Prayer, Bon Jovi She'll headbang to it. Be very dramatic. The point is that she CAN reach the high notes. And, she'd love to sing along to loud, energetic songs. And honestly Livin' on a Prayer may be clichèed, but it's SO SATISFACTORY TO SING ALONG. Another honourable mention because more people needs to know this parodistic masterpiece: Norwegian Reggaeton, Nanowar of Steel
(adding: In the DadWolf AU she'll come down from Tevinter with a real passion for Nanowar of Steel. They're metal and FUNNY and "Please please please papa Varric can you use your lots of money to organise a concert for them here? PLEEEEEASE I'll let you write of when Dorian and me where up there, with all the dirty details!" *a wild Dorian appears and jumps at her, yelling. The concert never was, it turns out that organising one is too expensive.*)
[Ask My Muse]
Does Fenris have any knowledge or opinion of Grey Wardens? If so, what are they? Does Tevinter have its own Command of Grey Wardens the same way other nations and regions do?
send me questions you have about my character! // @daughterofhighever-blog
Tumblr media
( warning, long post )
i think fenris has a very surface level understanding of the grey wardens. he knows they exist to fend off the blight, have certain oaths like templars do, but other than that, i don't think he has too much of an opinion of them.
from what i understand, the first grey wardens originated in tevinter to fight off the first blight, but whether or not they still exist within the imperium is completely up for debate (and will most likely be explored in da:d) i'm certain that there are books that exist in the imperium which talk about how the grey wardens began since it is a big part of their history
but since fenris doesn't read, i don't think he really understands anything more than grey wardens being necessary to stop a blight. after all, he was alive during the fifth blight-- undoubtedly he would have heard the stories. i would say that he would even categorize the mages that are grey wardens as something akin to the circle, given his very limited knowledge on grey wardens. he'd be suspicious of them, yes, but once hearing that they're all doomed to die due to the taint in their blood? i think he'd just say that it's for the best, and it's a good thing that they don't overstay their welcome.
put him in da:i, i think he would want the grey wardens to be preserved, but only if they had a leader to help them rebuild (alistair or loghain, since they're heroes of the fifth blight). but of course, this is at the expense of killing hawke. if the inky chooses to save hawke in the fade, then i don't think he trusts the inquisition enough to rebuild the wardens, especially if inky chooses to side with mages. i think he'd vote to exile them in that case.
fenris would be on the same level as bull-- that it wouldn't be smart to get rid of the only people that know how to get rid of the blight, but also i think he'd believe that it's useless to keep them around if they don't have a significant leader to prevent them from being corrupted again
this is all banking on fenris not knowing that grey wardens originated from tevinter. if he did know, he'd want to exile them no questions asked, regardless of who is alive.
tl;dr - no opinion. understands their purpose, but no actual opinion. considers the mages within something akin to the circle. in da:i, he'd want to recruit if hawke is dead. if hawke is alive, he'd choose to exile them. this depends on his prior knowledge of grey wardens.
I've shipped Elissa with a number of the muses you write, but my heart will always belong to Elissa and Loghain before all else. In any verse, timeline, or what if - it's the perfect combination of May/December, Enemies to Lovers, Hurt/Comfort that is like emotional heroin to me.
I will always love this ship, they're so great together 💕
who do you ship my muses with?
