Katara looked up at him, she knew the thing she should be feeling was empathy and compassion. Zuko's life had not been easy. And she did! She felt totally compassionate and empathetic, and also a little angry. Because what was she? Some fickle hearted, fair weather, love 'em and leave 'em type?

But if she got mad he'd just get hurt, so ... she leaned into compassion. She leaned into empathy.

"Zuko, I know that falling in love can be scary," she says, "But you kind of just ... have to trust that it'll work out. People don't just grow apart. They don't just fall out of love. Relationships take work. I'm not going to stop working at it, are you?"

as i think about aang trauma blocking his death out his memory as he gets older, i also remember that his back scar faded significantly throughout book 3 while his foot scar never did.

and the fact that this is something that aang would never request or even think about.

but katara would. and she’ll never forget no matter how much his scar fades. now i can’t get the image of her healing his back in between episodes out of my head :(

idk if this was artist discretion or intentional. i guess we’ll have to see in the gaang movie

it’s so wild to me that outside of the old ba sing se caverns, no one in the gaang once brings up zukos scar. it’s kinda sweet in a way i guess when sokka refers to him in season 2 as a freak with a “ponytail” and not scar, but it’s still just odd

Chapter 17

NOTE: The last Chapter 17 was in fact Chapter 18. So I had to back post this. Sorry for the confusion, y'all.

Fandom: Avatar the Last Airbender

Summary: Music night washes over Iroh. The crew’s attention  on each other means no one notices  their allegedly ill prince slipping over the side of the Wani and onto the dock.

Zuko, as The Blue Spirit, is leaving to meet another White Lotus Bud agent to exchange information on the Earth Armies for similar details on Fire Nation troops.

The White Lotus Buds are more successful than Iroh expected. Sometimes he thinks the war would end in days if they left the operatives in charge.

The White Lotus Buds were inspired by Zuko himself. It wasn’t difficult to connect The Blue Spirit’s earlier escapades with Zuko. Not once one realized there were connections to make.

Iroh does not know when the sneaking began, though he has his suspicions. Ten year old princes don’t go missing for days on end easily. And there’s the  ambiguity surrounding  Azulon’s death and Ursa’s sudden flight. When it started doesn’t truly matter when Zuko will not speak of it.

Shaking off his wandering curiosity, Iroh lets himself be drawn into the singing of an old sea shanty. It helps keep an old man awake, which he will need if he wants to be alert for his nephew’s return later that night.

Rating: Mature

They made it to the Fire Nation and after the blockade everything seemed to be going okay. Zuko was definitely still on their tail and Sokka said they would have to do something about that, but right now they were relatively safe. His friends were even relaxing in the saddle a bit. Even Sokka who’d scared Aang badly when he’d fallen out of the saddle.

She didn't really feel like doing anything as a politician today. She didn't want to be surrounded by a half a dozen guards. She just wanted to go out with him and have fun. "Maybe if we dressed way down and you left the crown at home we could manage it," she said, before she sighed. "It just feels like it's less a celebration we get to have fun at, you know?"

It's been a while, but yeah, I've seen it! I started going back through it a while ago and got stuck in Book Two. Really should go back to that. I honestly remember Korra a little better than A:TLA? I think?

And! Kid's shows! can be prime entertainment! A:TLA is a good show, whether it was meant for kids or not! No shame with enjoying it!

Chapter Preview

Ty Lee breathes away her anxiety as she pulls herself up the silks hanging in the big tent. She executes several climbing techniques as she makes her way up. Trying her best to keep it showy, just like the circus needs.  While she should be practicing, what she’s doing is dangerous. Technically she isn’t supposed to be practicing without a spotter. The Ringmaster would be furious if he found her like this.

Irelia and Katara (atla) have the same exact vibes. The same type. And to an extent it makes sense as they’re both women who’re heroic and inspirational towards others in the fight against imperialism. Both occupy a similar role in relation to an Avatar-like figure in their respective canons (though I’m not sure if romance is meant to be seen in the Karma-Irelia angle). Both are overtly serious, dedicated, and fight with sort of tai-chi inspired movement (less on Irelia’s end but the way she moves her blades is very fluid and of course it’s based on dancing). Both have complex antagonistic relationships with redeemed characters from the colonist side (Zuko and Riven respectively). 

Given Riot’s tendency to reference other media for their characters sometimes I wouldn’t be surprised if Irelia with her rework (and Karma’s lore rework as well) was inspired by atla at least in this respect.
