august is the textbook definition of a golden child. the boy was born with a silver spoon and he continues to clutch that silver spoon. he was the first born, he was the son, the heir to the family name, and there was absolutely nothing in life that he could do or say that would ever make him wrong or bad in his parents eyes. of course, that does come with quite a lot of pressure, and he knows it. it was the reason why, as a child, august did everything he could and went out of his way to make sure that his sister always looked bad at everything she did. if she couldn't do anything right, that meant that, even if he couldn't do it right either, he would still get praised for trying. it's definitely where his entitlement and the necessity of needing to be in the spotlight came from.

Hearing her name, they squint, how'd he know that? the begrudging title was Courier or for-shorter Six. Its like she didn't even have a name. Recollection creeps up her spine.

"Fuck" they sigh, moving to holster their handgun. "Bear... im sorry."

Her hand moves to meet his, hoisting him up. "Did you get hurt? did i.." The courier swallows hard, tears springing to her eyes. "Bear." she chokes out, now scared of just what could've happened if she hadnt come to her senses

"It's me... August... It's Bear..."

He holds his hands up next to his head. She has a gun trained on him after all. She keeps disappearing on him... Not only physically. But this isn't the first time she doesn't recognize him. They've both gotten a bit older. And Standing Bear was a good few years older than her when they met. Now he feels like... somehow he got old and she stayed so young. She still looks like a teenager somehow.

The way she keeps coming and going, the way her mind comes and goes... He's not so sure he can take care of her, not how he wants to... He isn't sure she would even let him.

"Standing Bear," He moves his hands towards her, asking for help up.

the last august where i write what i know

august brings in more than petrichor and volatile skies. soft hauntings lick the windows. what's on the other side of the door doesn't terrify me as much as the absence of a knock. it's the silent requiem. it's the handprints that isn't there. it's the breath i held in my lungs that i never got to sigh. the tug at my ribs i first felt at a bus stop six years ago grows more and more restless each day. if i'm not twenty three i'd simply call it by its name, but i am twenty three in the kitchen brewing my second cup of coffee because the first barely kicks in anymore.

last week i told a friend over lunch that i'm a completely different person now, but the moment i stumbled back into the apartment i realized i still wear my burn marks like a badge of honor. my lover is in the other room, listening to his late brother's favorite song again. while i thrash, he remains serene. i'll never understand the amount of gentleness it takes not to bare your teeth to the world once your body sheathes an endless apocalypse. the fever came gently, but the tragedy lies in my inability to put into words the intricacies of its confusing corporality. you see the smoke in my eyes, you know the flames took something, but the ruins tell you everything and nothing.

August. August is such a bittersweet month, with the last remnants of summer in the air it promises endings sweet and sour. A month that slowly and softly brings you out of the hot summer haze, when the realities of the world finally begin to set in.

’Somewhere in the forest’ is a pretty damn big range. But Elias has time on his side, and a shovel he only uses for special occasions. Hasn’t broken it out since World War II, it’s pretty damn rusty. But it’ll work.

Elias pulls up near a random side of the woods he was directed to, gets the thing out of the back seat, and sets out in search of anything that might look like a grave.

By all means it would've been a longer search, if it weren't for the day old blood trail leading off into the forest.

The blood trail was about a 30 minute walk into the forest before it stopped, and just a few feet from where it ended, there was a patch of disturbed dirt amongst the grass.
