Older!Xingqiu Headcanons:

Things about Older!Xingqiu I've developed as I've been writing him more (off Tumblr):

Though he's notably less mischievous and playful since leaving Liyue, that side of him makes a dangerous return when he's inebriated. Don't tell him any embarrassing stories or facts--- he WILL laugh, and he WILL relentlessly tease.

He's realizing his feelings for his best friend were largely out of attachment and lack of affection and validation outside of it. Chongyun was all he had and, really, the only consistent and good company he kept. His family is not known to be loving, and focuses more on what Xingqiu can DO for the family, and its reputation, rather than what Xingqiu wants and what makes him happy. It was a childish puppy crush, and he has grown out of it. It's beneficial, then, that he never told Chongyun how he felt ( and he never plans to tell Chongyun how he USED to feel when, finally, he returns to Liyue. There's no point now. )

Mondstadt is definitely the place he would officially settle down, should the opportunity ever arise. While he hasn't yet visited Inazuma, Sumeru, or any of the other nations, the rapidity at which EVERYONE in Mondstadt made him feel right at home lets him know the nation of wind and freedom truly is just that.

Xingqiu was already close with Albedo due to their collaborations, but he has since gotten close to Diluc and Fischl, as well. He enjoys listening to the both of them talk about their adventures and travels ( even if one of them has far more legitimate experience, compared to the other. As a lover of fantasy, though, he enjoys the balance betwixt fiction and reality. Fischl offers the fiction, Diluc offers the reality. )

He left Liyue because his family was trying to force him into an arranged marriage with the daughter of a family friend, due in part because of Xingqiu's preference for men. This was not the ONLY reason--- he felt chained and suffocated by his family's expectations and their unwillingness to allow him to be more than the 'backup heir to the family empire,' but one could say it was the final straw. Humorously, though, there are several in Mondstadt who are trying to add him to the newest list of bachelors right alongside Master Diluc; Xingqiu is, admittedly, overwhelmed and very ill equipped to handle all of the attention.

He still writes, of course, and plans to write several books based on his travels. A book for each nation, starting with his life from birth in Liyue, to Mondstadt, and so on and so forth.

Genshin Isekai Headcanons

These can be sagau, but they don't have to be.

• Xinyan is stoked that you love her music, and is excited when you offer to play her some music from your world, but she's confused by some of the lyrics. She understands metaphorical lyrics, like the person described in the song isn't actually a rocket, but some of them don't make sense or feel like they were added just to fill a void. Aside from that, she kinda wants to perform some of these songs, now if only she had some band members.

• Tartaglia doesn't have much to say about the guns of your world. The pyro and hydro fatui agents already use guns of some kind, and the cryo fatui agent uses, um. What would you call an ice based flamethrower? No, what he's interested in is the immense amount of new weapons that Teyvat doesn't have, or they probably do, and we just don't hear about them. Like chain blades, I don't know what else to call them, essentially a flail, but instead of a mace, it's blade. I would write something about axes, but I feel like saving that for my crossover series. A scythe is often seen as a special lance, but you tell him that it's much more complicated than that specifically pointing out the blade, and depending on your own skill, you give him a demonstration. He is way too excited to learn all of these new weapons, like a kid excited about a new toy, you can't help but smile.

• Baizhu is perplexed when he first prescribes medicine to you, as you give him a list of allergies, if any, and are more than willing to go through proper examination to learn how resistant your body is to certain toxins. He's even more surprised when you tell him that his unique practice is actually common in your world, so that's why you don't bat an eye at potentially poisonous ingredients.

• Bennett is rather surprised. When you hang out, his bad luck seems to go away. It's actually just you using a bit of foresight, like checking the date on a flyer before rushing to a sale that had already ended, but seeing that glimmer in his eyes, you decide to let his imagination roam.

• You and Cyno are reference lords. You two reference everything, Cyno, his favorite book or book series, and you, your favorite media source. Now, if only people actually understood them, and yes, you do quote Yu-Gi-Oh when playing Genius Invokation.

• If you're an artist, then you quickly catch Albedo's attention. When he sees your drawings, he is quick to ask what you used as a muse, and your answer will have great impact on his reaction. If you point to an object or animal, his response will be normal. If you draw from memory though, he is astounded, especially if what you drew was a scene of some kind, with people, animals, or what have you. Drawing all that from memory is incredible. If you say it's something you made up, he'll compare it to when he's commissioned for his own art.

• Depending on your own interests, you'll be interacting with several different characters. I can't think of anything in depth for these few, so here's a general basis. Barbara is relieved that you're so open to different views. She knows how cruel people can be when they're closed-minded, and she's happy to teach you about the Church of Favonius and Barbatos. Noelle was lamenting not being a knight yet, which led you to bring up the seven chivalric virtues. Yae Miko and Xingqiu are very interested in the stories of your world. Xingqiu hoping to learn more about your worlds code of chivalry, but he ends up learning about justice's different forms. Yae is simply searching for new inspiration. She often calls on you when her old nemesis, writers block, appears. Nahida takes interest in you right away, wanting to gain knowledge from your world, and you seem fun. She knows better than anyone how dangerous knowledge can be, so she asks you to omit potentially dangerous subjects.

• Mona was shocked when you said that you only wanted to know the bad stuff coming your way, not that she could help you, with you being an outworlder and all. When she asked why, you told her "It's best to be prepared for all the bad coming your way, and if you know all the good coming your way, it takes away from life's natural wonder." Which was promptly followed by you asking "Where did that come from?"

In which Xingqiu concocts a brilliant scheme to win the approval of his boyfriend best friend's auntie

Xingqiu prides himself in being many different things to many different people.

To most of Liyue, he's the esteemed son of the Feiyun's Commerce Guild, quiet and dignified, never wavering in his sense of duty.

To those closest to him, he's adventurous and gregarious, impish in his ways, yet possessing a strong moral compass.

But a trait that had previously remained indefatigable across all opinions(-at least, Xingqiu muses to himself, those that matter, anyway) of him thus far was likable.

...until now.

Xingqiu prides himself in being observant, in being able to discern things others did not.

He remembers how, only a year prior, he'd been able to work out that his father's newest 'business parter' had been scamming him.

The man had claimed to be an Inazuman merchant that found himself stuck in Liyue as he, rather unluckily, had been there during a business venture, when the Vision Hunt Decree was set in motion.

He'd asserted that he was carrying several boxes of exotic goods from his nation and that he believed the Feiyun Commerce Guild would make sufficient distributers.

Xingqiu's father had just been about to sign a contract with the man when he'd gotten to his feet, revealing what he'd deduced.

The man was not, in fact, a merchant- nor was he Inazuman.

He'd claimed to have been displaced four months ago when the Vision Hunt Decree had only been enacted three months ago. He had also described the fabrics which the supposed traditional Inazuman garments were woven with- fabrics which were not Inazuman at all.

Spluttering and red-faced, the man hadn't even attempted to refute his accusations, bolting out the door before Xingqiu's father could even utter a word.

Truly, one of his finest moments.

Yes, Xingqiu is certainly observant. There's no denying that.

Definitely observant enough to realize when his best friend(and maybe something more)'s auntie, despises him.

"She doesn't hate you," Chongyun tells him, his arms cross and one eyebrow raised.

Xingqiu adores Chongyun. He adores the way his face scrunches up in determination when training; adores the way his eyes light up at the thought of vanquishing evil spirits; adores the way he can never seem to remember the last line of an exorcism verse(for the record, it's 'world be saved'), and he's well aware of it too.

So are his friends, family, and probably the the entirety of Liyue Harbor at this point.

In fact, Xingqiu would readily bet all his mora on Chongyun, himself, being the sole person who's yet to realize it.

In spite of all the adoration he has for the boy, Xingqiu can't say that he finds Chongyun's words particularly reassuring, given his history with picking up on hints...

Chongyun matters(a lot) to Xingqiu which unfortunately means that the things that matter to Chongyun matter to him.

Ugh. Why does Chongyun of all people have to be Shenhe's nephew? Surely, the universe could've picked some other young exorcist for the role. It'd save Xingqiu a lot of time for more important things like being chivalrous and reading.

He's never been one to speak ill of others, preferring to deal with any and all issues privately- and it isn't as if Xingqiu has any inherent dislike for the whitehaired exorcist.

On the contrary, he finds her quite enthralling and interesting. Yet, Xingqiu cannot help but feel frustrated with her.

She seems to dislike him most vigorously, shooting him dirty glances every time they happened to come across one another and rebuffing any attempts at a pleasant conversation.

Normally, if someone acts as though Xingqiu's wronged them, he'll apologize with a lengthy but beautifully written speech.

However, as regrettable as it may be, Xingqiu doubts it'd work on Miss Shenhe.

What is, perhaps, the most maddening aspect of the situation is that he doesn't recall having done anything to offend her. He's been nothing but polite since they'd first been introduced.

For the life of him, Xingqiu cannot place his finger on the reason as to why the ropes that restrain her murderous urges don't seem to work around him.

Xingqiu decides that he's actually quite good at planning. In less than half an hour, he's managed to concoct a scheme that is almost guaranteed to result in him winning Shenhe's favor.

He's based his plan off 'how to get people to like you: a foolproof guide!', a book which Xingqiu's never needed before, but one that's he's read nonetheless.

For brevity's sake, he's summarised the book into five simple steps:

Compliment them

Discuss their interests

Aid them in the most meager of tasks

Encourage all of their pursuits

Buy them gifts

Hah, surely there's no way this can go wrong!

Honkai Star Rail:

I’m not ashamed to say that Aventurine drove me to this fandom. Because I save so much Haikaveh stuff on Pinterest, and the recommendations are visually sorted, it wasn’t long before my algorithm started mistaking Aventurine for Kaveh. 

I was very intrigued, actually— I quickly became obsessed after I saw the gay-ass lightcone. Aventio? ...Yeah, it was over for me. I started playing in late december of 2023, and I saved my pulls from the beginning to pull Aventurine ever since I knew he would be playable :) I was successful and now have a very well-built Aventurine, his lightcone and his Veritas.

I am obsessed with Harmony chars. I finally pulled Ruan Mei and her lightcone, so now I have all of them ehe, and they're all built exceptionally well.

Wuthering Waves:

I saw lots of adverts for the game and was really interested in the lore (oh god I'm such a lore player) and I ended up really liking the gameplay! A lot of people are comparing it to Genshin but honestly..? I like the gameplay of WuWa more skgdkagksgax but the lore is equal in my head. I play with the CN voice dub because it actually has emotion!!

I fell in love with Jianxin before the game's release when I was scrollong through wikis, and adored Yangyang as soon as the game began lol. Camellya was fun to meet because she matches a concept I had for an oc almost exactly-- which is fun!!

Tina, you've done nothing but blabber about Xingqiu today. When will you stop ?

Not today.

Anyways. I can see Xingqiu's family trying to shove him into a marriage with some other respectable, wealthy family's daughter, solely for reputation purposes, and if you don't think Xingqiu would run away from Liyue with a hastily packed bag and NO trail left behind, well . . . I have news for you.

He absolutely would.

Where would he go ? He's thought about it. Executing it would be extremely difficult, considering how well known both he and his family are, but he's lucky enough to where he has many resources at his disposal, of which he can use with careful planning. Money is no issue, his family PROBABLY has a boat docked somewhere . . . what if he just ran off to Inazuma ? Made more money off his books, lived a chill life doing what he loved, or . . . he could go to Mondstadt. Hit up Albedo, and they could work TOGETHER on their hobbies without need for letters. It's a place that emphasizes freedom, which he barely knows the definition of right now.

I don't think he'd be ready to immediately jump to Sumeru until he's lived on his own for a bit, first, but it would be lovely to consider, simply for the academic and adventure aspects of it.

If he ever suddenly disappears one day, just know he's PROBABLY okay, and if you see him out and about with different garments and longer hair . . . stay silent and keep moving.

a/n: i have a request from a user on tumblr that i haven't gotten to just yet. just letting you know publicly that i will be getting to your request soon!

        The nifty furniture and sparsely decorated walls were stained with blots of ink and permeated the air with its unmistakable scent.  The lights were on to provide the most lighting three bulbs could manage, revealing pages and snippets of drafts here and wherever - and in the midst of this chaos sat none other than Xingqiu, tirelessly working on whatever you could've assumed to be his newest project - the sight worried you, as the distress was written clearly across his meager countenance.  

        "Xing, everyone's worried about you. . . I'm worried about you.  It's been awhile since we last spoke.  Everyone's been telling me that they haven't seen you,"  you spoke quietly at the doorway.

        The air in the room fell deathly still.  His glass pen stopped scrawling, and a soft thud followed as it hit the paper, before he turned around to reveal his weary expression; though, his eyes seemed to light up when they graced your figure.  As if you were perhaps a figment of his exhausted imagination, it was only until he could confirm the disembodied voice that he could rest.  Xingqiu stood up at once and hurried over to your body before sucking you into a tight embrace, causing you to return his warm affections.  He smelled of books, at least he was taking care of himself.  "[Y/N]."  He murmured your name softly, as if relief overwhelmed him.  "I'm so happy to see you.  I'm so, so happy to see you."

        "Where have you been?"  You asked, pulling away from him to see his amber hues staring weakly at you.  "This place is a mess, what happened?"

        "I've been trying to find my way."  his smile fell within an instant. "Even the way I sit doesn't feel right anymore - it's as if I've lost my touch and I don't know why."  He sighed, "my life feels adventurous as is!  I can even imagine a vivid trip to Inazuma despite not having set foot there personally, not recently at least.  So why am I stuck in this rut?  Something is clouding my mind. . ." maybe because I tried to replace you. He grimaced, making your frown intensify as well.  "Maybe its best to just give it a few days," you replied.  "People will always look forward to your material."

        "No, no.  I won't allow that.  My imagination is far too active to sit idly. I need new material, a new muse.  Someone who can act as the body for my mind."  He shook his head and pulled away from you altogether, leaving your body cold from the newfound lack of warmth. 

        "I understand. . . I'm just happy that you're alright.  We can worry about that later."  You knew better than to argue with your dear friend.  He was such a hardhead, but alas, if his head wasn't hard, then how would he keep all of his ideas contained within?  "Let's go out and get something to eat, then.  Maybe you just need a good meal to get the creative juices flowing!"

        "You're right, maybe a break of scenery could help.  I am craving something to eat at the moment."  Xingqiu sighed. He looked down at his clothing and turned on his heel, before rushing into another room attached to this one. 

        In the meantime you stepped further into the room to examine your surroundings - this room was an absolute mess.  Thankfully most of the damage was centralized to his desk, with empty ink wells, books, and papers scattered across the floor, which captured your curiosity.  Maybe he needed to hear from someone whose opinion he valued that some of these ideas were worth expansion?  Of course, you loved and supported your dear friend and would read any of his work, so you didn't mind walking up to take a peek at some of the scattered rough drafts.  You picked up a page that looked particularly promising and opted to stand to read, since well, there was ink all over the couch.

        The paper read:

                It was as if he was living in a fanciful dream; being able to talk and interact with someone whom he found himself so endearingly infatuated with on such a consistent basis.  He likened it to eating his favorite food every day, although he would never be tired of the taste of [Y/N]. He loved them like no other, and would truly find no other like them.  Seeing them was like watching the beautiful rays of dusk spill over the stalwart Liyuan mountains. . .every word they spoke was absorbed into his skin and spoken on his tongue, until their colorful words, anger, sorrow, and joy covered him like decorative sleeves.  He became obsessed with them and the ichor of their imagination, wanting to be with them every waking moment of the day.  He wanted them for himself; no jewel was more precious than the one he had come across on that fateful day.  [date].

                He could hardly stand being away from them - his excitement always caused him to lose sleep while his thoughts surged to create more idyllic scenarios for the future; these were ones where he could imagine them being together for the better.  Frolicking through Liyue's gorgeous meadows, or tumbling excitedly down a hill, hand in hand with [Y/N] were just a couple of the plentiful scenarios he kept in his head under lock and key.  He wanted to know what they were doing, and what story they could meticulously craft for their little dates when they were apart.  What would they do to twist his heart, and how sweet would their words sound to his ears?

                He'd never met someone who could capture his attention in such a way that he felt pained to be apart from them.

                Their name was [Y/N], and they were the perfect person.  The epitome of beauty, the gifted, the benevolent and kind.

                Their travels were numerous, the adventures long, short, and between.  He could sit and listen to them for hours, drawing his inspiration from their sublime stories for grand tales spun from their combined imaginations. . . they were whole when they were together, when he was with [Y/N].  

                Be with them.

                Have them.

        Huh?  No, you were reading this right.  It couldn't have been some coincidence that the love interest had the same first and last name as you. . .

        You carefully put the piece of paper down to look at another one; though, these drafts seemed to hold fewer and fewer the more you looked at them.  One of them was even as simple as just. . . your name on the paper.  [Y/N] [L/N].  Over, and over, and over.

        You looked to the next piece.  Mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine

        I WANT [Y/N]

"What?" you furrowed your brows.

        And that's when you noticed that your hand was over a blot of ink, making you retract it with worry.  You uncovered something. . . your name etched into the wood of his desk.  You felt anxiety raise up from deep within you, causing you to take a step away from it all.  Something was clearly wrong with your good friend, but what?  Was it even something you wanted to discuss?  Maybe it was more appropriate to get the hell out. 

        "What is it [Y/N]?"

        "AH!" You shrieked, immediately turning and pressing the shy of your back to his desk.  Your eyes went wide at the sight of him; he stood perfectly still with a small smile on his handsome face.  He wore his signature outfit, and as beautiful as he was, you were still a tad unsettled. But, you felt comfortable enough to ask. "You scared me!  Xing, what are these?"  You asked as you lifted up the piece you just read and handed it over to him.  "Do you. . . do you have a crush on me or something?" your voice took on a softer tone. 

        Xingqiu's expression dropped, and the heat rising to his cheeks immediately made him flush.  "You. . . weren't supposed to see that."  he looked away from you to gaze at the wall for a moment.

        You could immediately feel guilt coursing within your veins.  "W-well, if it makes you feel better, I appreciate the piece," you remarked with a small frown.  "You can turn the worst people into the best.  You've made me sound like a bonafide adventurer when I just enjoy traveling and bringing you little knick-knacks."  You reached over and pulled him into a side hug, which he hesitantly reciprocated.  No matter how genuine you came off, you knew it wasn't going to get rid of the feeling he harbored within him. . . and truth be told, you didn't know how to react to the news. . . there was just so much to say with so little time. . .

        "That's because you are.  You're perfect.  You should be what everyone aspires to be."  Xingqiu's voice was just below a whisper.  It was as if you were forcing him to speak his mind.

        His grip on you tightened past the zone of comfort, making you wince.  "Are you alright?"  You attempted to put some space between the two of you, but he closed that gap almost immediately.  Even the door had been shut, much to your surprise. . . when did he do all of that?  You were in the same room as him, so how did you not hear it?

        "You know, you are the muse that I desire.  Your beauty, your insight, everything. . . it all matters to me."  Xingqiu started as he locked the door behind the two of you. "It would be a mistake if I so willingly chose to pry us apart again, and I won't make the same one again.  I need you more than ever."

        "B-but this isn't the way to do it," you explained while you pushed him.  "You need to get out of this house, Xing.  You have a responsibility to the people you've aligned yourself with. . . and this isn't you."

        He merely stumbled back.  The push wasn't hard or anything, of course you wouldn't want to hurt him, but looking at it in hindsight - you wished you knocked the wind out of him to allow yourself for a chance to get out.

        "I've found out why I haven't been myself, and like I said before, I made a terrible attempt to separate us, in hopes that I would feel better.  But I don't, and I won't - that's why it's important to keep you here."  Xingqiu narrowed his eyes.  "All I need to do is look.  You don't have to worry about being held captive. . . you are free to roam around my home as you please, but I assure you, I won't be letting you go anytime soon."

Xingqiu slumps onto his desk, defeated. The deadline for a special volume of A Legend of Sword is scarcely three nights away, and yet he still hasn’t progressed past the first fight sequence. Every word he pens is inadequate, and the brush in his hand is crooked and sluggish, and another colorless midnight has almost passed, and still, he has nothing to show for it. His valiant unnamed hero claims a narrow victory against the Tai-Shogun’s cyborg samurai, and then—and then…

When Xingqiu’s eyelids flutter open again, the lantern by his window has dimmed considerably… He cannot have dozed off for that long, can he?

At least his father and brother are asleep. It would be best if they never find out about his sleeping schedule.

The shadow of his hand is so sharp against his lantern-lit draft. Xingqiu traces the ridges of his knuckles, a flickering black silhouette on the page beneath it. From this angle, it almost looks like a dragon’s mouth, one of the Natlan kinds… maybe he’ll be able to see one in person someday…

His eyes shut slowly.

ermmmmm embarrassing... this was supposed to be published with the snippet (so i could've just given you the full snippet since it isn't long anyways) but it's ballooned rather fast and I don't want to wait. also yeah this has no hu tao mentioned because unfortunately she comes in right after this lmao. also the hu tao xingqiu dialogue inspiration that struck me at 2 am yesterday left so now i have to reinvent the wheel (<- bad at banter). anyways i hope you enjoy <3 this idea was kinda random haha, i just wanted to write something from xingqiu's perspective and show how they bounce off each other really well LOL nothing much to it. I was going to change it into xingqiu + venti writers block (venti is one of the muses fr) but i haven't watched irodori thoroughly and decided to keep hu tao. anyways yeah hopefully i finish this thing soon lol

Someday, to Withstand Fire

Chapter 1

Chongyun’s voice was the only sound in the room, aside from the occasional flipping of pages and the rustling of fabric. He spoke quietly yet clearly as he read the contents of the book in his hands to his friend. Xingqiu’s head rested on his lap, his dark hair fanned out on Chongyun’s thighs. His eyes were closed while he listened, intent on enjoying the favour he was done. After all, there had been no time for such idle pastimes the last few days.

He had insisted on retiring to the privacy of their room for tonight. After a long day of traveling to Wangshu Inn and socialising with other merchants on the way, his excuse was that he needed a moment of solitude to recover. Unlike many other people, spending time with Chongyun was rarely draining to him. Perhaps he was spoiled, but he could never get enough of little story times like this.

“The heart was a fool. Rationalising such feelings was for naught since love is stronger than thought. Compelled by… passion roaring inside his body like stormy ocean waves, he…” Chongyun, despite having kept his composure for so long, trailed off. Heat stirred in the pit of his stomach and rushed to the tips of his ears. “Oh, Xingqiu will tease me if I don’t hurry,” he thought. Conquering his fears, he mustered his courage.

“…he crossed the distance between them and… united their lips in a first lovers’ kiss.”

Gauging whether he had been caught in his embarrassment, Chongyun peeked past the edge of the book. But much to his chagrin, his eyes locked onto amber ones full of mischief. He quickly averted his gaze. “Oh no,” he thought, “I won’t hear the end of this tonight.”

“Yunyun. Perhaps if you were brave like the protagonist of this book, that courage would make you a stronger exorcist too. What say you?” Xingqiu mused, squinting his eyes like a mischievous cat.

Chongyun huffed and shook his head in disbelief – at himself, since that statement somehow managed to make a little sense to him. After all, was a successful exorcist really someone who struggled with human relations? Or someone worried to face casual things such as affection? He had never given it much thought, since he was rather busy keeping his emotions tame instead of learning how to express them. Especially around Xingqiu. But even that was always giving him a hard time…

No, these had to be completely different things.

“You’re just teasing me,” he stated, more to himself than his friend. “Kissing has nothing to do with exorcising evil spirits, ‘Qiu.”

“But dear Chongyun, how can you be so sure?” Xingqiu smiled – then showed mercy by closing his eyes once more. “Oh, please continue. I was invested!”

“Alright, alright.” Chongyun cleared his throat and returned to the last line he had read. “Warmth blossomed forth from his chest like fireworks on a night-clad sky. Perhaps this was what he had been missing all along…”

Unlike before, Chongyun realised he was absorbing every sentence carefully. He wouldn’t dare give into such fantasies, scared of the repercussions. But perhaps there was a reason why so many people seemed fascinated by the concept of romance, enough to make a happy marriage their life goal. That was something he could never envision for himself… but craving a genuine bond with another person was relatable. Without Xingqiu, he knew nothing would be quite the same. He wouldn’t trade their friendship for anything in the world.

“…only empty dreams, until the morning hours bid the night farewell.”

That was the end of the chapter. Chongyun was about to ask whether he should read him another, but a glance at Xingqiu’s face told him that he was falling asleep. Icy blue eyes softened at the sight. He placed the book next to him and gave Xingqiu’s shoulder a gentle shake.

“Xingqiu… if you’re going to sleep, you should go to bed first.”

“Mmh…” Xingqiu uttered a sleepy noise in protest, unwilling to move. Who could blame him? These thighs were cosier than any pristine pillow he owned.

Chongyun gave him another shake, to no avail. He sighed. Once Xingqiu was set on something, he turned stubborn and clung to it with metaphorical claws. He, on the other hand, usually found himself getting the short end of the stick. But he was getting tired and his legs were starting to fall asleep.

“Alright… fine,” he mumbled. If it didn’t work this way, maybe he needed to change his strategy. Chongyun mustered his courage and reached for Xingqiu’s hand. Unsuspecting, the other made no move to complain or look.

Pale fingers were brought to his lips. Chongyun placed a tender kiss upon the back of Xingqiu’s hand.

“Chongyun…?”

Dark lashes fluttered against blushing cheeks. Xingqiu’s eyes shot wide open. Their gazes met and soon, the blush on his face outmatched the shade of pink on Chongyun’s.

“You said I’m not brave enough… so I’m proving you wrong. And it worked…! So,” Chongyun explained, then avoided his eyes. “…are you ready to go to bed now?”

Xingqiu gaped in disbelief. After regaining his composure, he covered his mouth with his kissed hand to stifle a laugh. The other seemed to interpret it as teasing, a good excuse to hide the spreading heat on his cheeks.

“Well, I can hardly say no after you tried so hard,” he conceded, “but a kiss on the hand isn’t the same as one on the lips, don’t you think?”

“Now you’re just trying to embarrass me,” Chongyun pouted, prompting another laugh from his friend. But indeed, he seemed ready to head to sleep now. Chongyun was simply happy that he hadn’t been punished for his audacious behaviour… but he was going to need some rest, lest the simmering heat in his stomach might overwhelm him.

Perhaps next time he’d be strong enough to withstand the fire.

Oh sure! Thank you for asking! I haven't talked about that fic in quite a while hhhaha :')

I'm not sure how much you've poked around on my AO3, so I'll start from the top: My Second Verse is my 90k+ word canon-compliant xingyun relationship study. I wrote it as my very first long-fic because I wanted to explore Xingqiu and Chongyun's relationship, the ways I interpret their compatibility with each other, etc.

The overarching plot is sparked by Xingqiu receiving a request from Yae Publishing House for a sequel to his main book series. In chapter 1, Xingqiu asks Chongyun to act as his muse for his next book and Chongyun agrees (since that request is pretty vague as-is anyways.) From there the two spend a lot of time together working through their core character traits; Xingqiu is forced to realize he's a self-righteous prick, and Chongyun is forced to realize the way he lives his life suppressing his yang energy is unsustainable.

Things explored in this fic include:

What does Xingqiu value in Chongyun?

What does Chongyun value in Xingqiu?

What can these two grow to learn from a relationship with each other?

What does it mean to love someone? What does it mean to feel lonely?

It's pretty slow-burn with a few sword-fighty action scenes speckled in, but it's mostly introspective drama and alternating POV. Currently the fic is marked as "unfinished" because I had plotted a whole second half from the part where I stopped, but I've been on hiatus from this fic since I hit some severe writer's block :'''') If you're the type to only read finished fic, the fic as-is currently wraps up nicely! I've also received some feedback that the fic doesn't actually go the direction that some people thought it would, if that's something that you're into.
