So if we assume that Durge was level 12-20 pre-tadpole, and considering that they're a Deathstalker...

The older versions of raise dead (which shouldn't work on Durge but whatever), and the deathstalker ability last breath of bhaal which automatically revives a fallen deathstalker an hour after death to a barely-alive state, would knock off a level upon reviving the individual.

While the tadpole could knock them down to level 1 as it apparently did to Wyll, what if they just died 11-19 times over the course of that month spent on Kressa's operating table?

started a durge run and immediately chopped off gale's hand because while i don't hate or even particularly dislike gale i do find his story least interesting and most long-winded so i just wanted to skip out on it this time.

i did agonize over who i should have in my party when i did it, though. initially i tried to do it without encountering anyone else but couldn't figure out how to get past astarion without triggering his intro scene, and i figured he'd be the most receptive to random acts of gruesome violence.

i was correct, btw. the conversation went about like this:

durge: O__O *covered in blood*

astarion: well that was certainly a thing that happened.

durge: O__O

astarion: ....are you alright? you look a bit....off.

durge: there is a terrible darkness welling up inside me that i do not understand.

astarion: .....okay cool. just, uh, take care of yourself, yes?

The old man removed his glasses and smiled at her, kneeling down such that he was eye level with her. He kept his distance, not wanting to alarm her any further than the others had already done a fine job of doing. Her heartbeat was deafening. That even he could hear it spoke volumes. The old man was no vampire, baruch HaShem, but he heard it all the same. This was a definite problem. “Hello, little one,” the old man whispered. “You’ve had a terrible night, haven’t you?”

Delthea and Lysithea can get together and complain about being targeted by weird cultists for magical experiments. Things would go fine at first but I feel like if they had supports, the B rank would entail Lysithea getting comically offended at Delthea deciding to not train her magic, ever.

I am in some ways sad that the doctrinal disputes between Orin and Durge were limited to one letter exchange ('do you remember that our doctrine demands finesse you fucking blockhead??' and Orin's hatred of guns and artillery, which take away from the art that is Bhaalist tradition and demeans his faith, -V.S.- 'I assure you that a death is death and Bhaal does not give a shit' and Durge's apparent sole interest in sating the Urge, burying themselves in the pleasure, and killing everybody in as high quantities and as fast as possible so that they can be free of all this. Or so I'm reading it.)

Because it's clearly an ongoing argument, so did they normally argue and debate to each others' faces or is there just a whole mountain of eloquent yet aggressive letters debating the finer points of family, murder-cult faith, thanatology, and 'duel to the death-synods and why we should have one' somewhere?

On the other hand it's good there is some space to interpret Durge's stance on the faith and how their ongoing rift developed.

I kind of picture it as both the previous description and also; 'doctrine and prayer is for mortals, Bhaal made me for different things (indiscriminate murder)' and 'I am our god; those rules don't apply to me.' With a touch of severe depression and trauma, and getting high off of murder as the coping mechanism.

all the Crimson Peak Sapphists talk about Lucille, and yes she is wonderful; she is my Precious Murderbaby and I want to give her a hug (this would get me instantly killed) and also raid her wardrobe

but like. fucking. Edith

she is made of candlelight. she is a golden goth. she thinks she's so clever and worldly despite being one of the most sheltered innocents you can imagine. AND she successfully bluffs her way out of the victimhood that should be her natural portion in this kind of story, because she's stubborn enough to make misplaced confidence in herself...not misplaced anymore

she's corruptible but at the same time you get the feeling that, in the right circumstances, she would delight in letting herself be corrupted. her morals have the integrity of a wet paper bag, so she's halfway there already

I have this headcanon about Halsin and Kiaran adopting a pregnant kitty, and then once her HUGE litter is old enough, rehoming them with the tadfools.

Gale: adores his kitten to bits. Tara is a bit huffy thinking she's been replaced, but sure, fine, whatever, she'll teach this wingless thing how to hunt. Gale loves getting cuddles from both at night.

Karlach (once returned from the hells): squeals over the lil' baby and makes a fuss constantly. Kitten grows up to hate everyone except her and will hiss when others approach Karlach.

Wyll (once returned from the hells): kitty takes the role of a secondary familiar, helping him and his animal companion once Wyll becomes a Ranger.

Lae'zel: doesn't know how such a beast will fare with her warrior lifestyle, but gives it a try anyway. She becomes very fond once the kitty hunts its first mouse/similar creature, and she does like coming home to something living at the end of the day.

Astarion: loves his kitten, of course, but pretends not to. Then in secret he has dozens of ridiculous nicknames for the little murderbaby. There are rumors that Astarion lets them sleep on his head.

Shadowheart: is absolutely delighted to add the kitty to her coterie of animals. The baby is never alone, though takes longer to understand the "these chickens are friends, not food" lesson.

Jaheira: makes a joke about if this is because she's old. Still, she is quite fond of the baby.

Minsc: worries at first, but is reassured by Boo that the kitty will not be able to overpower him.

Halsin and Kiaran: keep the mama kitty, and continue raising the other stray litters from other kitties they encounter.
