Having a rarepair in a big fandom: tough, but there are other people out there. Likely no fanart, but maybe a few fics on Ao3. One blog that's really really passionate about the rarepair if you're lucky. Lots of ships in a big fandom so people don't massively care about ones that aren't popular.

Having a rarepair in a small fandom: cricket sounds. Tumbleweed. Only a few ships so people desperately put their all into them seeing as they are the only ones and thus have to be popular. People are liable to collapse when they hear the names of a rarepair come out my mouth.

OK so I’ve had versions of this question so many times that I’m starting to get really fascinated by it because I think it speaks to how much fandom has changed in the last 20 years.

I mean, in general, it still astonishes me as someone who first entered fandom in 2004/5 that creators now are so open and willing to engage with their fans. Neil Gaiman is out there hammering away on his keyboard 24/7 to give Good Omens fans answers about whether Crowley likes pancakes or not and I think that’s wonderful. (He must be so tired). There’s so much more connection between creator and fan and usually that’s a great thing (until it’s a very bad thing, please see the Star Wars fandom).

I come from a time (again, this is less than 20 years ago!) when you simply did not include creators in fandom. Partly there was a lot more anxiety than there is now about the legality of fan created works, but partly we knew that in general we would not like the answers we got back. This was the era of your options being absolute frozen silence or furious denial in response to questions about whether two characters of the same gender might be together romantically, and it really burned the community as a whole.

So, you know, if you felt moved to write an 80,000 word fic about two characters who had never exchanged more than 3 words in canon falling in love you would simply go and do that, and everyone else would just nod approvingly. There was no representation of the kind we wanted on screen or on the page, but there was in fandom, and they were totally separate spaces.

But obviously now we’re in the wonderful era of there being actual queer books and TV shows and movies that people are fans of, and creators and actors want to be part of those fandoms because everyone is suddenly seeing the characters in essentially the same way. Which is so nice and so refreshing, but I do think it’s created this feeling among fans that ideally the creator should give the OK to a fanon relationship.

I absolutely love hearing your fan interpretations - you often think about characters in a way I haven’t, and that can be really interesting. Sometimes, as it tends to do, fanon and canon get pretty far apart, and I also think that’s absolutely fine.

But I do definitely want to say that you don’t need to ask me whether you can ship, or whether it’s right to ship, two characters. If your heart moves you, go for it. Go wild! Fill your boots! I made them up, but you make them live.

If you’re asking whether a particular ship will get together or stay together in the series, I usually can’t say (because of spoilers!) - unless I definitely know it won’t happen, and then I don’t want to tell you that because it’ll just disappoint you.

So what do I think of Kitty x Lavinia? I think that it’s great, I think that you’re great, I think that you should go write a 80,000 word epic about them. I won’t read it, because that’s legally and personally a little weird, but you should absolutely go for it if you want to.

We're gonna say for this that it was a very distant relative of Aleksandr's who fled Russia alongside his grandmother (Countess Demidovskoy) and left Fallingford to the Countess

The Countess decided to give it to Aleksandr for a place to live in England so he doesn't have to go back to America and deal with his family trying to get him to take over his dad's company

Hazel and Aleksandr are married and have decided they're going to live in England

Just like in the show, Lavinia pushes Hazel out the window causing her neck injury and, Lavinia being Lavinia, feels no remorse whatsoever

Hazel finds that she sees May like a wee sister

since I hc the Countess as a very Orthodox Christian I feel she may have rubbed off on Aleksandr a bit and so when Hazel tells him she can see ghosts he isn't just as on board as Mike is

he then whips out the rosaries and holy water and begins blessing the house with the Russian blessings his grandmother taught him even though he isn't even that religious

all the ghosts just stood watching him, Daisy making fun of the length of his arms

Eric carries Nuala's head around most of the times and tries to stop the others (May, Lavinia, and Daisy) from playing football with her

quite often they would just sit down and talk about their lives with each other and would occasionally gossip about the other ghosts

Kitty is nicer than how Fanny actually is and when Hazel has gotten over the fact that she can see ghosts, Kitty gets Hazel to tell her everything about what's trending and how her and Aleksandr met

Eric, Beanie and Nuala have dance parties every week and always try to get George to join in

George follows Aleksandr around and pretends as if he's Aleksandr's second in command

Daisy becomes extremely melodramatic about Hazel and constantly tells her how they're literally like Sherlock and Watson and how Hazel should unalive herself so they could run off the the holiday home in Fallingford grounds and start a new afterlife together where they're hopelessly in love

Hazel constantly has to tell her that she is happily alive and married

Aleksandr does a seance sooner than Mike does it in the series and ends up seeing a shadow of a rat and smelling burning due to Amina walking through him to follow the rat and freaks out

Amina then has to go get Hazel to restore Aleksandr to normal

George and Lavinia meet up in the library every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday evenings to talk about mostly politics but also other things and they tell the other ghosts they're having a "grown ups meeting" and no one else is allowed

These "grown ups meetings" quite frequently involve Lavinia getting Aleksandr's computer and them both cyberbullying with Lavinia teaching George modern slang

Beanie's sister is Clementine and that's why no one liked her and poor Beanie had to go through a hard time after her mum died

BARCLAY IS UNCLE FELIX

Aleksandr shared his wagon wheel with him

Daisy had a big fat crush on Hazel (if it isn't obvious with her being Thomas)

George also has a big fat crush on Aleksandr but isn't just as obvious and dramatic as Daisy and the only ghost to actually notice this is Lavinia

Kitty's husband is Hugo and he pushed her out the window after creating a manwich with the butler and the gardener

I’m cyberr, I go by a lot of names, currently my favourites are Phoenix, Leonardo, and Jackdaw. I use any pronouns and I am asexual.

I have numerous skin conditions, feet bones in the wrong place, and a really bad back at the moment, as well as chronic daily headaches . So uh. You could say that I am as fit as a fiddle, if the fiddle in question is the one in my garage, which has all its strings snapped.

I really enjoy reading, and have done since I was seven. I’m currently reading the reappearance of Rachel Price, as well as the Iliad. Some of my most favourite books include: the wizards of once, how to train your dragon, murder most unladylike, all about romance, Sherlock Holmes, and treasure island.

I’m also a writer, I’ve been working on this one story for five years now. Hopefully I’ll finish it one day. I write a lot of poetry.

I love mysteries and have been apart of numerous mystery solving groups, several founded by me.

I’m an artist, of course, and my top three mediums are pencil, watercolour, and digital. I’m not the best at digital tbh. I hate acrylic and acrylic hates me.

I usually do a lot of sports but right now because of my back I can’t do a few of them. I can still do swimming, archery, rounders (tragically:/), stand up paddle boarding, and roller booting. Because they don’t involve as much bending down.

I’m gay

I’m a part time goth, which is to say I listen to goth music (my favourites atm are fields of the Nephilim and all about Eve) but only sometimes dress goth, and in varying degrees of goth. I am the most inconsistently dressing person I know, and right now my catchphrase is ‘the duality of man’. For some reason.

Music wise I listen to a lot. One day I will truly be able to say that I listen to everything. But not yet. My most favourite band is the crane wives

I want to be a marine archaeologist when I’m older, or, failing that, a famous actor. Let’s be honest here, unless I do become a really famous actor, neither career path is likely to pay well. Marine archaeological, or maritime archaeology, is all about ships wrecks, and how cultures of the past interacted with the ocean and other bodies of water around it.

I like all the animals. Genuinely there is lot a single animal that I don’t like. Well- I’m not too keen on bugs but I wish them all the best, and may many of them please stay away. I have a severe phobia of moths, and slight arachnophobia that depends on how I’m feeling and what the spider is. Tarantula? No problem, big and hairy enough to be a kitten. Now let’s move away from it in case it sprays its hairs. Brown garden spider? Bloody Mary on a motor bike get it Away.

My attention span is low. I am a theatre kid. As I type this is have a musical going in the background.

The feeling of semi-jokingly looking up a book series you used to love when you were younger, expecting to find maybe three Tumblr posts mentioning it, only to find an entire fandom, with pages and pages of headcanons and fanworks you missed out on.

Hey, y’all! I’m Artemis, but you can call me Arty for short.

Welcome to my side of Tumblr! I write for a multitude of fandoms, such as Supernatural, Big Sky, Dawson’s Creek, Dark Angel, The Boys and pretty much anything Jensen Ackles, cause we love that man.

I’m not a minor, and I have mainly studied literature, mythology, economics and psychology (odd mix, ik) and I’m an Indian POC based in the UK. My fav books are the Harry Potter series, Murder Most Unladylike, It Only Happens In The Movies, A Place Called Perfect series by Helena Duggan and The Darkest Minds.

I write because it’s been a huge passion of mine ever since I was a kid. I’ve written unpublished books as well, but I keep coming back to fanfiction, obviously.

The Jensen character I relate most to has to be either CJ or Dean. CJ in terms of the struggles of school social life (as I’ve had a difficult one that I’ll explain below) and Dean in terms of how to handle all that. He bottles things up and so do I until I can’t take it anymore. And while I’m not an older sister, I have few people I know who I’m a surrogate older sister to.

The songs I relate to the most are: ‘if you only knew’ by Alexander Stewart, ‘Elastic Heart’ by Sia and ‘I Can Do It With a Broken Heart’ by Taylor Swift. Songs that you should definitely check out.

My inspirations for writing are @zepskies, @deanbrainrotwritings, @dean-winchester-is-a-warrior, @waynes-multiverse and my beloved @angelbabyyy99. Blogs you should definitely binge if you don’t know already!

As for my difficult social life:

When I was a minor, I was a victim of bullying by at least the majority of my class. It erupted out of nowhere (it might have been my personality as I was an unnecessarily serious person when I went into that class) and as that group was large in numbers and stupidly popular I didn’t stand a chance. I was made out to be a horrible person, everyone I befriended listened to those rumours and I gave up on being social altogether.

I did, at one point, try and get justice for all that happened. I tried to get it prosecuted, had an active discussion in front of a teacher with all the ‘evidence’ (which was stacking), but I was told that there was insufficient evidence. I was left with the majority of the damage. I suffered from anxiety and depression (and trust issues) for YEARS after that. Eventually, I got therapy and learnt to not expect the worst and be more optimistic.

Now I’ve improved. I have friends who care about me. People who look up to me and finally a stable social life. Even though what happened still affects me, I keep going. Sometimes I have to slow down, but that’s ok. It’s not a harm to stop and think.

Writing became my coping mechanism, and now I smile more. And I know I’m not alone in this journey. Wherever you’re from or what caused you to have this difficult period of self-evaluation, YOU. ARE. STRONG. And we’re here for you!

Now I’m an adult with a big-ass crush on Jensen Ackles, and I don’t regret a thing. At least now, I’m strong, I’m independent, I’m smart and I’m happy.
