Things I wish I could animate but don't have the skill level for:

Open Arms from Epic: the Musical set to Murtagh at the Dragon Rider Academy.

Odysseus -> Murtagh

Polites -> Eragon

Lotus Eaters -> Elves and Dwarves that carry grudges against Murtagh; Urgals at end of song

First verse: Eragon seeing Murtagh's nervousness being in the same place as elves and dwarves. Murtagh says he's fine. Eragon tries to alleviate Murtagh's fears by reminding him that he's safe here under his and Saphira's protection.

First Refrain: He also advises if Murtagh shows the denizens of Mount Arngor who he is as a person, they might be more willing to give him a chance.

Second Verse: Murtagh gets into a tense moment with someone. He explains that he and Thorn are there to escort Uvek who is the new Dragon Rider (Please let this happen in canon!) and learn from the Eldunari. His crimes during the war are brought up. He tries to explain what his perspective was like while acknowledging the harm he has done. Eragon tries to keep it from escalating. Thankfully it doesn't get to the point of blows. Just harsh words.

Second Refrain: Eragon's relieved that things didn't get to blows. He's optimistic attitude is a little heightened since he's trying to exert hope into his older half brother.

Third verse: Murtagh explaining to Eragon the people hate him with good reason but because of his father's history and his own crimes, no one is going to give him a chance and that if they do, he has to watch to make sure it's not a ploy to get his to lower his guard.

Fourth verse: That night Eragon talks with the Urgals to see what they think of Murtagh. He's noticed that Murtagh and Uvek seem to have a good relationship, but hopes the others will be allow Murtagh to be around them.

To Eragon's relief and delight Muratgh is welcomed into the Urgal circle by Uvek (needs a slight nudge from Eragon who accompanies him) and the others get a chance to get to know him. Some of the Urgals share his opinion on Galbatorix and being under his thumb.

Third refrain: Eragon watches Murtagh laugh and get comfortable amongst the Urgals. He's happy for his older half brother. Seeing Murtagh in goods hands, he relaxes himself to enjoy the evening. Murtagh admits to himself that he's making some progress and feels safe and relieved that at least some of the denizens of Mount Angnor are willing to give him a chance.

I am the only one who thinks that maybe Ellen could have the sight ? She made Murtagh a promise about the life of Jamie, he swore that he will never leave him and will protect him with his life hence that he was here this day to protect his 'body' from Dougal and that he finally give Jamie his 'life' by bringing Claire to him.. he is also the one who saved Jamie at Culloden...if Ellen knew? i always find very beautiful that the one who swore to protect his life is the one who give him Claire..

Hello darling!!!

So I actually sat on this question for a wee bit (so sorry for the delay) because I wanted to consult some other Outlander friends before answering hehe.

I definitely think it is plausible that Ellen had “the sight” especially considering Jenny does have a vision of Jamie and Claire in 3x8 ‘First Wife’…

It certainly is not far-fetched and could certainly be a plot point that Diana unveils in her last novel. 

However, I will say though that I personally believe that Murtagh is fiercely loyal to Jamie out of his love for Ellen and out of his love to Jamie not due to a vision from Ellen.

Murtagh originally pledged his loyalty to Jamie out of undying devotion to his lost love, but as Jamie grew, I believe Murtagh eventually simply loved Jamie for Jamie. 

Jamie became a son, brother, friend, comrade, and treasure to Murtagh.

 As did Jamie’s wife. 

Muratgh to me is truly grossly underrated. 

Murtagh is the epitome of steadfast. He is ever by Jamie’s side and he loves Claire as fiercely too. He stands by them even unto death. 

Truthfully, who knows where Jamie and Claire would have ended up without Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser.
