so i ran across this while i was bored. #hulu suggested to watch @thefosterstv - i've heard of it but never watched. now i did and wow this is the first time i've seen a #colorism conversation on tv. her mother wants her to understand her privilege and remind her that being lighter skinned granted her more opportunities than she had. the daughter understands that but that's 2 of the things she's battled her whole life, #beingbiracial and being lighter skinned. no matter how hard she tried to fit in, she never had a place to belong. sure her skin color may afford her more opportunities but it's also a very lonely place where you don't have a community. i think some of us care more about having a supportive community instead of opportunities. a supportive community can last forever but just being chosen because of your skin's proximity and not your actual talents doesn't help you feel supported. this episode is years old and im surprised nobody's talked about it. having conversations like these are definitely hard but it will teach us to have more empathy and compassion. this is also the first time i've seen a #multiethnicfamily and a #lesbian #interracialcouple on tv too. check it out. this is my take. what are your thoughts? 🤔⁉️ #mixedgirlproblems #thefosters #transracialadoption (sorry about the sound quality 🤷🏻‍♀️ and be nice to each other in the comments, sometimes you just gotta agree to disagree. trying to build a supportive community here) (at Hulu) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRAPig_FmfW/?utm_medium=tumblr
