Something’s playing on the radio, but Sole’s not paying much attention. It’s drowned out by the pinging of rain on the tin roof above them, the windows thrown open to embrace the break of the heavy, dark clouds that had been hanging all day. Absently, he thinks that if all it took to get this was the apocalypse, he’d do it a thousand times over.

Nick’s stretched out on the couch with him, a book long forgotten where it’s closed at his side. Instead, his hand is carding through Sole’s hair, his cheek pressed against his temple. There’s an exhaustion in Sole’s bones, but it’s the content kind, the kind where he thanks the universe that he has something like this to come back to whenever the world outside gets too difficult. Nick pauses the motion of his hand and instead begins rubbing his thumb across Sole’s jaw. “We were supposed to go out.” He comments quietly, his voice gravelly. 

Sole imagines another life where going out meant the movies or the warmth of the beach, and a life that Nick wasn’t so hesitant to call his own. The thought dissipates as soon as it arrives. He hums, “This is good.” Sole’s well aware how sleepy his voice comes across.

He means it, with everything in his heart. This, right here, in Nick’s arms with the rain coming down and the radio playing softly and the whirring of his mechanics, is good. It’s contentment. It’s home. And when Nick laughs, warm and affectionate, his heart soars.

The case they’d worked on was a long one, and Nick had promised a date afterwards, something to get their mind off of it. Sole had teased him about finally taking a day off, but the delight on his face was enough to let Nick know he’d made the right choice. Of course, as soon as they’d made it back to Diamond City (in one piece, by some miracle), the Commonwealth had decided they were long overdue for a monsoon. 

They hadn’t meant to curl up on the couch together. Nick had insisted the weather had to stop soon, they could still keep their plans, but Sole had dragged him down onto the worn sofa and they’d been there for an hour already. The rain showed no signs of stopping, and Sole tried not to be secretly grateful. Sure, date nights were rare, but even rarer were the nights where he could get Nick to slow down and just breathe. 

Sole shifted and threw one of his legs over Nick’s, his arm tightening around the synth’s torso. “Another night. We’ve got all the time in the world.” He shifts to prop himself and kiss Nick, sweet and unhesitating through the grin he wears.

The adoration in Nick’s glowing eyes when he pulls away nearly takes Sole’s breath from him. He pauses a second, lets his forehead rest against Nick’s, and tries to commit the moment to memory. If he stores this, in the back of his mind, maybe the next case won’t be so hard. The world won’t hurt so much if he knows Nick’s in it, that Nick’s by his side.

Who are some of your favorite fic authors? And for what ship(s)?

I dabble in a lot of fandoms, so this isn't going to be a comprehensive list just what comes to mind immediately:

Porphyrios - Cyberpunk 2077 and Fallout. They wrote a Sturges/M!Sole gift fic for me years ago and I still go back to read it sometimes. Their Jackie/M!V fic has just that right balance of cyberpunk and occultism that I adore.

CaveDwellers and Rhinocio - Jak and Daxter - unsurprisingly Jak/Daxter. Their Drinks series is great.

Urbanvix - Vampyr - Reid/Geoffrey. Their Plague Bearer series was never finished and I still feel the wound two years later.

ExultedShores - Dishonored - Daud/Thomas.

kt_vunder - FF8 - Zell/Squall.

You might be noticing a lack of Danse/MSole and Farkas/MDragonborn. I have this weird thing where once I've written heavily for a pairing I struggle reading it. I think its shifting mental gears from consumption to creation that does it.

So Chivalry’s gonna break 2000 views with the next chapter, and it’s just surpassed 150 kudos. And I’m. I don’t. I’m big cry you guys I cannot express how much this means to me that people read it let alone enjoy it and come back for every chapter and take time out of their lives to leave kudos or comments or even come message me on here and some people have said they stayed up to read it like. Sacrified actual sleep just to read my writing? That’s wild, that’s so wild and I get people telling me they love Chiv, or he and RJ are their favourite couple, and I just. I honestly don’t have the words to explain how this makes me feel other than this incoherent rambling so uhhhh basically if you’ve ever so much as clicked the link to Chivalry I love you and I am so grateful and thankful and I hope you enjoy it and I hope you continue to enjoy it because boy there is a whole lot more to come <3

I put a nice little basement under the house in Sanctuary.  I find it hard to believe that the MSole Survivor would not have prepared to protect his family.  He served in the war.  He had to have some inkling that the war might end with a bang.

Like when dickface at the Cambridge Police station says she obviously doesn't doesn't know what ad victoriam means, she should get the chance to say, "Listen buddy, I went to college and was a fucking lawyer; I'm pretty sure I know more Latin than you do." Or of you're playing MSole, "My wife was a lawyer." Or like, you can find that terminal entry talking about Nate coming to speak at the veteran's Hall, so why not an entry about Nora handling a case at one of the police stations, or a mention of her on a university terminal? It feels like Nora was kind of an afterthought that they didn't put nearly as much effort into as Nate.

Basically, yeah.

Bethesda sucks.

The fact that bethesda never put anything in the game for Nora even remotely hinting or playing on the fact that she was a fricken lawyer is heckin dumb. They could've at least added her law office or once in a while she'll have a witty comment or something here and there about something being illegal but nooOO0ooo she completely forgets about her law degree post-vault. Sad as frick. Missed opportunity but a good opportunity for a mod??? Maybe??
