If you ever read the first few, early issues of the "All New, All Different" X-Men revival, you'll notice something really surprising: Colossus, the Russian X-Man able to turn to steel, is prominently featured on every single one of them in a central role. He was even the first of the X-Men to burst out in the famous cover of Giant Sized X-Men #1.

The reason for this is that initially, Colossus was originally conceived by Dave Cockrum, Roy Thomas, and Len Wein as the X-Men's "leading man." His character arc was to grow from an ordinary farm boy from Siberia into a strong and certain team leader, and with his gentleness and strong sense of ethics, was to be the moral anchor of the series. This not only explains why Colossus had such a central role in all the covers, and also why his costume is red and yellow (attention getting primary colors that say "this is the main character.")

What happened? Three things. One is that Chris Claremont, a plotter who took over after the initial creation of the team and was not a part of the initial conversations, got fascinated by Storm, as he often did with semi-lesbian dominatrix characters like Ms. Marvel/Carol Danvers, and Madame Hydra/Viper. Claremont did this a lot less than the fandom likes to joke he did, but he did do it occasionally. Storm ended up receiving Colossus's story arc, as a character who grew into the team leader role, and it ended up working very well. Storm is the X-Men's best team leader.

The other two things are that artist John Byrne, a Canadian, got fascinated by his fellow Canadian, Wolverine, who had a mystery about him that made him a fan favorite. Initially, Wolverine was slated to die in X-Men #95 at the hands of Count Nefaria, for the reason it would shock everyone and prove they could do it, but Byrne felt an international team without a Canadian would not work and put his foot down. And the other was that the decision was made for Cyclops and Marvel Girl to remain a part of the team, to have continuity between the old team and the new. In other words, the previous "leading man" character still stuck around, which was never a part of the initial plan, so Colossus had no space to grow into the role.

It was always nice to be given time off. Especially if you get time off with your favorite fellow agent. Normally, the agents of the VP would spend their days off away from the base or throw themselves into more work (ahem ahem ms workaholic Viper).

But today had been a bit different. Since it was raining, you decided to spend time relaxing with Iso. The two of you lied in his bed, wrapped up in a blanket with some low volume R&B playing in the background. His LED lights were set to a dim lilac while he held you close to his chest, playing with your hair.

Sometimes you wished every day could be like this. You wish you could stay in with your boyfriend, listening to the soft pitter patter of rain against your window and his playlist without a care in the world. With no work or outside world to disturb you.

A soft kiss being planted on your forehead is what pulled you from your thoughts. You look up towards Iso and smile, glad to be here with him in this moment.

"What are you thinking about, pretty?"

"You"

Your boyfriend smiles at your response, kissing you on the forehead once again.

"Good"

He rolled you two over so now he was supporting himself over you with his arms, leaning down to plant a kiss on your lips this time. You giggle as he pulls away, going to pepper kisses all over the rest of your face. He let out a quiet laugh at your joy as he pulled away, looking into your eyes.

In this moment, nothing else mattered. It was just you and Iso. You both stare at each other, unmoving for a moment with smiles spread across your faces.

"Hey, Y/n?" he says, finally breaking the silence.

"Yeah?"

"I love you."

The beautiful man knew Azriel was studying him. Broad shoulders tapered down to a long body beneath a perfectly tailored suit. He wasn’t built like Tamlin Rose or Helion Day. His strength was something different. This man was far more dangerous. He was like smoke, a viper in waiting. When he struck, one would not see it coming, and it would be deadly. 

Azriel’s hazel gaze met those gilded eyes. Bid on me. His eyes and body were betraying him and screaming out to this dangerous stranger. He looked at the long, pale fingers slowly making circles along the rim of his glass. How would those fingers feel inside him, slowly opening him up, pulling his hair, wrapped around his throat… 

He shifted, uncomfortably hard now. The male clocked the movement and slowly lifted his glass to his lips. He cocked his head to one side, seeming to study Azriel like one would a specimen, something rare and beautiful. It was somehow both demeaning and sexy, and Az would, at that moment, kneel at this man’s feet to have those eyes study him all night. 

“I hear ten thousand from Ms. Suriel.” Azriel snapped back into the moment. His eyes moved towards the elderly woman holding up her white flag. Oh god. Ok. He could sit with her. It would be like going to Bingo secretly with his aljada.

“Thirteen,” Tamlin called out again. And it went on for quite some time. Back and forth. Grandma Suriel had dropped out at twenty thousand. Lord Kal Winters topped out at twenty-five.

An androgynous figure wearing dark shades and a hooded sweatshirt joined at thirty thousand. Azriel could not tell their gender or age beyond the loose-fitting hoodie and sunglasses that dominated a round, pale face. A tuft of dark hair peeked out from beneath the hood. Their mouth was wide and painted purple, and their voice almost had a plurality to it. 

“Thirty thousand for Bryaxis,” Feyre called out. Bryaxis. The famous electronic DJ from Amsterdam. No one had ever seen their face before. Azriel was intrigued, wondering if he’d be the first. What would be this enigma’s kink?

“Forty thousand,” Helion immediately countered. 

Azriel was getting tired. A third of that would be plenty to pay his rent for a few months. And the Days seemed normal enough. He could handle them for a few hours. Besides, his legs were starting to go numb. 

He and Fey had devised a plan where he would tap his thigh three times when he was done, or tug his leash discretely if he felt uncomfortable with a bidder. He tapped his leg. One. Two. Three. 

Feyre looked down and nodded imperceptibly. Az looked up one last time at the golden eyed stranger. The sting of disappointment and a little rejection coiled through him. It was silly. He didn’t even know if this red-haired stranger was into men. But Az swore he’d seen the heat and sheer possession in those amber eyes… 

Feyre called out, “Forty thousand going once, twice, and—”

“Fifty thousand.” A smooth voice called out from the corner. Azriel clenched at the sound. It was like velvet and so sure of itself. 

Feyre’s shrewd eyes immediately clocked Azriel’s body language, the way the winged man sat up on his haunches at the red-haired man’s single bid. She smirked knowingly. “Sold to Eris Vanserra for fifty thousand dollars.”
