Cas was 100% ready to believe they had a pet that no one had shown him all the way in season 9. Dean having a dog would be crazy to him. “Have we always been allowed to have pets?” “Cas, we’re adults living in a fuck off bunker meant to house a small army. Who is gonna tell us we can’t have pets?” “Ah. Free will.”

When Cas gets back and finds out that Dean adopted a dog while he was dead he insists they get a cat too. Dean puts up a little fight cause he’s allergic, but Cas touches him on the forehead and says “not anymore” and looks so pleased when Dean relents.

Dean is beyond thrilled though because for the first time he thinks this will make sure Cas always comes back and treat the bunker like his home too.

Cas is also secretly pleased that Dean was willing to let him get a pet to live at the bunker cause he can use it as an excuse to be around more often.

Sam watches this interaction with his hand on his gun because he doesn’t know if he should kill both of them or himself. (He still goes with them to pick a cat from the local shelter. He gets a laser pointer to make the cat run in between Dean and Cas while they’re having eye sex in the library)

In case anyone is interested there is a game called I Love Hue on the App Store that’s just a really big version of this where you organize tiles into gradients. I would only recommend it if you got a zero on this though cause I imagine it might drive you insane if you actually couldn’t see the difference

ive said it before but actually yes cas is better than ANY of the characters from other shows ppl condescendingly recommend as alternatives to supernatural in that 1. he has one of the most memorable entrances of any character in tv history 2. his overarching storyline of being the one thing the powers that be cannot control and the way that plays out both on and off the show is genuinely facinating to watch and 3. he spent a season chasing a woman across the country begging her to get an abortion whilst acting under the alias agent solange

whats so funny about all of this is the sheer number of people who became invested in the story after 15.18 because of cas’ confession. like, that was the most hype and the most social media response that a supernatural episode has ever gotten (correct me if im wrong there)? it grabbed people and pulled them back in for the final two episodes even if they hadnt watched in years or had never watched it at all, which is insane. it was a legitimate phenomenen on the internet and it stirred up so much interest and excitement which the final two episodes viewership numbers definitely reflect.

it just proves what i’ve been saying for years: if they had gone forward with deancas, stopped the bait and made it text - even complicated, nuanced, non-romcom material text - there wouldve been an explosion of fans. new fans wouldve tuned in, old fans wouldve come back, and supernatural wouldve been firmly transferred to the internets favorite media list. of course, it wouldve alienated some fans, and i dont know enough about the breakdown of fan demographics to say this for sure, but i feel like its possible the influx of fans wouldve evened it out. and besides, its not the homophobic dudebro fans who are going to cons, buying every piece of merch, etc - thats queer money! it just seems like such an absurd missed opportunity in terms of increasing viewership and profit, being front page trending interent news for weeks or months, and also going down in history as a landmark in queer media and television in general
