(lydia west, 31, she/her, ciswoman, carlisle 1) I wonder how the season will treat ISABELLA CARLISLE. It’s true that SHE is PERSISTENT, but I’ve also heard that they can be CUNNING. Do you think they’ll find their match? I doubt it if what I heard is true. I heard that [REDACTED]. Of course, that’s just speculation.

GENERAL full name. isabella margaret carlisle nee harris zodiac. scorpio gender. ciswoman pronouns. she / her sexual orientation. heterosexual
APPEARANCE & RELATIONSHIPS faceclaim. lydia west hair. brown eyes. brown dominant hand. right relationship status. married siblings (in law). clifton carlisle, sophie carlilse & alice carlisle
BIOGRAPHY (tw: child birth & death)
Born the only child to Mr & Mrs. Harris, Isabella's life is one of tragedy from the very beginning. Her mother, an unknown figure to her as Isabella took her first breath... Mrs. Harris took her last. While her father was knowledgeable enough to understand that Isabella held no blame, he could never quite take to his daughter. Instead, Isabella was raised by various nannies and household staff. When it came time for her debut, Isabella was determined to find a love match. Of course, she knew that it was incredibly unlikely to find a love match. Even more unlikely on her first season out. Meeting Edwin Carlisle was the metaphorical needle in the haystack. He was handsome, kind, and came from a much more prominent family than she did. It was easy to fall in love with him. Whether he reciprocated, was an entirely different matter. They wed at the end of Isabella's first season. The craving for siblings that she had felt so ardently in her childhood, had been quenched by the siblings that she had gained through marriage. While they may not have been connected by blood, Isabella did not love them any less. During their first few years of marriage, Edwin and Isabella were plagued by a singular question: when were they going to be with child? As much as Isabella wanted to provide children for Edwin; she could not get over the fact that she had not known her own mother because childbirth had been so difficult on her. She would not want the same fate for her own children.
Nine years into marriage, scandal broke. The way in which Edwin made his money; illegally, broke. As with usual gossip, it did not take the ton long to find out. The Carlisle family, who was once held in such high esteem found themselves crashing rapidly. To make matters worse, Edwin was arrested - where he is still serving time, leaving Isabella scrambling as head of the family. At first, admittedly, she had no idea what she was doing. After the shock of the revelation, she whipped herself into shape. If she didn't do something, who would?

How You Meet the Cullens + Jacob
Hi! I've decided I'm going to put some of my stuff from Wattpad, over here. If you want to see my Wattpad, its the same username as I have here. Anyway, this is how you meet the Cullens, + Jacob. Probably intended for female readers, but it could mostly go either way... I think. And I do have the girls as well in here.
Edward Cullen:
Edward and you met at school. Of course.
"Um, excuse me?" You asked a small girl, with short brown hair.
She turned around, revealing her pale white skin, and beautiful golden eyes.
"How can I help you?" She asked.
"I was wondering where Mr. Molina's classroom is?" You replied.
"Oh, yes. I can show you the way!" She grabbed your hand, and pulled you down the halls. (Wow, this is turning into an Alice preference)
"Thank you!" You said, when you two arrived at the classroom.
She pointed inside the room, towards a beautiful boy, with golden hair, and dark, dark, eyes. He glared at her, with his hand over his mouth. I turned to look at her, and she winked back at him.
"Uh, thank you. Oh, I never got your name." You said.
"Alice. Yours?" She asked, still smiling.
"Y/N."
"Well, Y/N, looks like you'll be sitting next to my brother, Edward, in there." She waved, and skipped away.
I walked inside the class, towards the boy, and sat down. He looked away, took a deep breath, then turned back to me.
"Hi, um, I'm Y/N. You're Edward, right?" I asked.
"Yes. I-I am." He seemed like he was in pain or something.
Weird.
Jacob Black:
I had lived in the outermost part of Forks for as long as I have lived. (Sounds like a wedding vow)
We were right next to the border of La Push. Therefore, I go to the school in the reservation.
(I have absolutely NO clue what the school is like there, so I'm making it up)
But, I didn't really talk to anyone. I had a few friends from down in the more central part of Forks, Bella Swan was one of them. She recently moved here full time. I hadn't seen her since I was little.
There was this one kid named Jacob who I had met a couple of times, mostly when he played with Bella snd I while our parents went fishing or whatever.
But, since Bella was going to school in Forks, I decided I would try and re-connect with this Jacob, to see if I could hang out with him.
So, I asked around one day at school for what classes he was in, and found out that he was in one of my classes. How did I never notice? Oh, just me and my oblivious self. (Sorry, if you're like- not oblivious?)
Well, I found him one day.
"Jacob, right?" I asked him.
"Oh, yes, oh, oh! Y/N! Hi!" He seemed to be a very nice boy.
"Yes, it's me. Um, I haven't talked to you in years, I'm surprised you remember my name." I explained.
"I'm surprised you remembered mine." He laughed.
"So, uh, I"m kind of wondering if you want to like, hang out or something. Anywhere works. I just need some company." (Bella who?)
"Sire! You could come by my house today after school and we can catch up. Do you like cars?" He asked.
"Depends." I laughed in response.
"Well, you can come help me too. I like to re-build them."
"Sounds like a plan."
Emmett Cullen:
(for this one you are a vampire already, and yes I basically stole Rosalie's life. Also, if I get facts wrong, don't come for me, just tell me *kindly* and I will fix it)
I became a vampire in 1920. Two years after my brother Edward, and one year before my mother Esme.
I'd been a vampire for 15 years already. How time flies
One day I was running through the forest when I heard screams coming from a small patch. I sprinted towards the place, and saw a boy, probably 20, getting attacked by a bear. I shoved the bear off of him instantly, and bit into it, getting it's blood.
I remembered that the boy was watching, and was probably shaken up, not to mention, he was most likely dying. I turned back towards him, wiping a small bit of blood off of my lip, and said,
"Hello, I'm Y/N Cullen."
"E-Emmet. How did you do that?" He asked, very weakly.
"I have my ways. What hurts?" I asked.
"Everything." Of course-
"I'll be right back. Don't move." Not that he really could. I sprinted back to my house. I opened the door, and Carlisle, Esme, and Edward turned towards me.
"Y/N? What is it?" Carlisle asked.
"There's a boy, Emmett. He got attacked by a bear. He's very weak. You need to turn him Carlisle."
They all sprinted into the woods, and I led them towards where Emmett lay. He was still there, but weaker.
Jasper Hale:
(you're a vampire)
Jasper became a vampire in 1863. (I think)
He was telling me his story.
I had recently been turned into a vampire by Carlisle, after he rescued me, and I hadn't really met the rest of the family yet. (You can make up why you had to become a vampire)
When Jasper had finished the story, I said, "Wow."
"That's all I could get out. His story was just, wow....
I forgot, Edward could read my mind. I only remembered when he chuckled after I thought that.
I gave him an internal glare.
Bella was sitting in the corner, with him.
"So, Y/N, tell us your full story." Jasper smiled.
(Sorry, his is kind of short..)
Carlisle Cullen:
It was my first day working at the Forks Hospital and I needed some directions.
I walked up to mid-height man, with blonde hair, and very pale skin.
"Hello, sir?" I asked him, and he spun around.
"Yes, Ms. Y/L/N?" He asked.
"H-how do you know my last name?" I asked in response.
"I heard someone talking about you coming, and you're the only new face around here. We don't get them often." He smiled, and my heart fluttered. Good thing he wasn't like a super-hearer or anything. {;)}
"Well, uhm, I was just wondering where the surgical ward is?" He pointed towards the left, and I smiled slightly, walking away, and quietly looking back at him after I was sure he couldn't see me.
Alice Cullen:
(You had already seen Alice before, but never interacted with her much, like most of the students)
I was walking around in the forest, when I heard footsteps.
"Hello?" I called out.
"Y/N!" A girl replied, I noticed it was Alice Cullen.
"Oh, hello, Alice." I was a bit confused to how she knew my name, but to be honest, I knew her's too and that's a bit strange. But, everyone does talk about the Cullens.
"What are you doing out here in the forest?" She asked me. I didn't have a valid answer. I could say "Just felt like taking a stroll..." or "Oh, I'm working on my steps." but, none of those were true, I really didn't know what I was doing here.
"Uhm, working on my steps, and taking a stroll....??" I questioned myself.
"Oookay then. Would you like to come with me? I can show you some of my favorite spots to relax." The way she said relax made me think she wasn't relaxing, and probably meant running around and exercising. Just what I needed.
"Sure, sounds great." I smiled.
Rosalie Hale:
Everyone that lives in Forks knows about the Cullens. Even the people in the reservation.
There's the three boys, the goofy one, the silent one, and the constipated one.
Then there's the two girls. Alice and Rosalie.
I've talked to Alice, we've said hi.
But in general, I know nothing about Rosalie.
All I know is she is incredibly smart, beautiful, and did I mention gorgeous?
I've never had the guts to talk to her. Maybe it's that I'm a wimp, or maybe it's that she is very intimidating. Probably a mixture of both.
But today, I got lucky, and didn't have to talk to her. She talked to me.
I had noticed her eyeing me a few times, and I never knew if she was looking down on me, in a bad way, or if she was interested in me. Both ways scared me.
Today, she came up to me.
I was sitting at the lunch table with Angela and Jessica, and the new kid, Bella.
"Y/N, can I talk to you really quick?" She asked.
"Uh, uh, yes, yes, sure." I stood up quickly, and while walking away with her, I turned towards Angela and Jess, and they smiled and winked.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" I asked.
"Well, I wanted to know... did you want to hang out sometime?"
"Like, a date...?"
"Uh, yeah. Like a date." She smiled and we both laughed.
"Sure." I smiled back.
Bella Swan:
Apparently, today Chief Swan's daughter is moving to the school.
I'm looking forward to it, I want to make more friends.
I was standing outside, waiting to see if I spotted her, when a big, orange-red truck pulled into the parking lot.
It must be her! I've never seen that truck before.
I ran up to it, when I saw people laughing at it. Whatever, I think it's cool.
She climbed out of her truck, and I probably startled her, standing there.
"Hi! I'm Y/N Y/L/N. You're Chief Swan's daughter, right?" I asked.
"Uh, yes. Bella Swan." She stuck out her hand, and I shook it.
"So, do you want to know anything, anything special?" I asked.
"Um, I'm not sure...." She said, tucking her hair behind her ear. (Ugh, a classic Bella move)
"No worries. Let me show you to your first class." I smiled, and took her hand, pulling her down the hallway.
Esme Cullen:
I was walking around town, alone. A kind of dangerous move, since there have been so many mysterious attacks lately.
I was looking through random stores, when I noticed Esme Platt, (we're just saying she isn't a Cullen because I guess they aren't married...????) Carlisle Cullen's old friend. (I don't even know how to write this...)
"Hi, Esme." I said.
"Oh, hello, Y/N." She smiled.
"How have you been?" I haven't seen her in a while. We've talked a few times.
"I've been good, how have you been?" She replied.
"I'm great. We really should catch up sometime." I said, trying to be subtle.
"Yes, we should. Do you want to go to lunch tomorrow?" She asked.
"Of course! Where do you want to go?"
"Don't worry about me. I won't eat much anyway."
******
So, yeah, that's it. I'm aware that these aren't perfection, bur they were fun to write so, yeah!
I will be posting a lot more now since I'm getting really into writing again ;)
Thank you all for reading, (not that a ton of people are going to read this lol)
And yeah, see you soon! :3

When We First Met
Part I of “The Unbelievers” series
Pairing: Peter Parker x Reader
Summary: You’re the new intern at Stark Industries and you’ve made it your mission to figure out just how Peter Parker became Mr. Stark’s favorite.
Word Count: 2.5k
Warnings: A slow burn with a few curse words thrown around.
A/N: This fic helped drag me out of my writer’s block, so I really hope you guys like it! Happy reading <3
“Have you been talking for a million years? Did I go deaf because you're burnin' my ears? Spare the details, it's unnecessary I got places to be and people to see” -It’s Not All About You, Lawrence
The first time you met Peter Parker, he was actually tolerable. It was your first day at Stark Industries, and you had just gotten your job assignment as Pepper’s assistant’s assistant. In other words, you were about to spend your days making coffee runs and changing out ink cartridges.
“Hey, uh, do you need some help?” he had asked as you struggled to carry two boxes of printer paper all the way to the copy room on the other side of the building.
“Yeah, for sure,” you huffed, not being able to see who your savior was over the stack of boxes. When he took both of the boxes out of your arms, you were met with his dopey grin and wavy, brown hair.
He’s cute, you thought. But all you dared to say was, “Thank you so much. I felt like I was about to die.”
The two of you shared a laugh at your dramatics before you continued walking.
“No problem. I was headed this way, anyway,” he replied nonchalantly. You caught yourself staring at how light he made the boxes seem. He must’ve been a lot stronger than his baggy, oversized sweatshirt made him look. “Are you new? I’ve never seen you around before.”
Peter had to slow his pace down a lot to let you catch up to him. He wasn’t used to taking casual strolls around the office, always having to run over to wherever Mr. Stark was at a moment’s notice.
“It’s my first day, actually,” you admitted, offering him a weak smile. You weren’t much of a conversationalist, especially not when it came to cute guys who looked that good in sweatshirts with dorky math jokes printed across the front of them. “Are you an intern, too?”
“Yeah! I’ve been working here since I was fifteen,” he told you, leaning against the doorway of the copy room. “But I don’t do anything too important. Mostly just fly under the radar and do what Mr. Stark tells me to.”
Your eyes widened. “Whoa, you work directly with Mr. Stark? You must be one important guy.”
Peter blushed, not knowing how to backtrack out of the hole he had just dug for himself. “Uh, not really. We’re not like friends or anything. It’s just, Mr. Stark knows about all of my science fair projects and—”
“You aren’t making yourself sound any less impressive,” you interrupted, crossing your arms and narrowing your eyes at him as he set the boxes down on the counter. “So, Einstein, who are you?”
“Parker. Peter. Shit, sorry, it’s Peter Parker. I have to go now. Bye!” he blurted out, running from the room before you could even tell him your name.
A girl who looked about your age slipped into the copy room, startling you out of your confused state. “Were you just talking to Peter Parker?”
“Uh, yeah. Why?” you questioned, hoping she’d have some sort of explanation for why he acted the way he did.
“He’s basically Mr. Stark’s surrogate child,” she said, sipping one of the many coffees that she was carrying. “I’m Grace, by the way.”
“Y/N. What do you mean by ‘surrogate child?’”
“It’s like, everywhere Mr. Stark goes, so does Peter. That thing with you and him was basically the first time any of us had ever seen him next to a printer, and he’s only talked to a handful of us once or twice. Guess he’s just too busy being the golden boy to associate with the less important interns.”
Of course. The first chance at a cute office romance that you get is squashed by the fact that the guy you like is an antisocial jerk. But that’s not how he seemed to you, so why was his reputation with the other interns so bad?
----------------
It had been one week since you started working, and every day you learned more and more reasons why everyone hated Peter Parker. He didn’t make coffee runs and nobody had seen him at an intern meeting in the last year. And yet, somehow, he was the CEOs favorite. It was annoying, to say the least.
You actually hadn’t seen Peter around ever since you had first met, which only helped to confirm the rumors that he’d rather eat lunch alone than be forced to talk to any of you. You hated that even when Grace or anyone else wasn’t dragging Peter through the mud, you were still thinking about his stupidly adorable Queens accent and whatever the hell he could be doing that was so important.
Of course, the next time Peter decided to grace the cafeteria with his presence was when Mr. Stark had just arrived back from a business trip to Germany. Figures that he would take his favorite on the trip of a lifetime. Your bitterness grew as you imagined Peter relaxing in the company’s private jet, but it wasn’t until he held up the elevator that you really started to hate him.
“Hey,” he panted, slipping into the elevator just before the doors closed. Once again, your hands were full, this time with a stack of folders meant for Pepper to look over. “You’re that new girl. Sorry, I don’t think I got your name.”
“You didn’t,” you noted, turning to look away from him in the hopes that he’d get the message. You weren’t interested in giving him the time of day.
“Did I do something to upset you?” He rubbed the back of his neck while he waited for the answer that you didn’t plan on giving him.
The awkward silence between the two of you was starting to feel especially long when the worst thing possible happened. Loud creaking noises came from the elevator shaft, shaking the two of you as the cables screeched to a halt.
“You have got to be kidding me!” you groaned, setting the files down to press the emergency call button. You had luckily never actually had to use one of these things, but that also meant that you had no idea how to work it.
“Hi, I’m here with another intern and we’re currently stuck in the elevator on the west wing, between floors four and five. Could you send someone over to get us out, please?” You pleaded into the little phone, bitterness lacing your voice.
“What do you mean it’ll take two hours? What do you expect us to do, sit here and play checkers?” You could feel your face heating up as you panicked over the fact that you were going to be stuck in this metal death trap for a while.
Peter walked over to you, leaning against the wall of the elevator to take over the conversation before your attitude extended the wait to three hours. You begrudgingly handed the phone over to him.
“Hey, could you put Mr. Stark on the line?” You couldn’t hear what the person was saying, but you could guess that it wasn’t very positive.
“Well, tell him it’s Peter and…” He looked at you, mouthing for you to give your name.
“Y/N,” you muttered, continuing to pace back and forth as the tiny box that you two were stuffed in started to feel smaller and smaller with each minute that passed.
“Y/N. Five minutes? Alright, thank you so much, Alice! Have a great day.” You were irritated by his effortless charm with others, despite how awkward you knew him to be.
“Um… thank you.” You rubbed your arm awkwardly.
“Are you okay? You seem a little on edge.”
“I’m fine! I just… really need to get out of here.” You wanted to keep pacing back and forth, but you were too busy hyperventilating to think about moving your legs. Peter watched as your eyes started to water, not sure about what he could do to make you calm down.
He stepped closer towards you, which only made you feel even more anxious than you already were. You didn’t want him to see you like this.
“Y/N,” Peter whispered, wrapping his arms around you. You looked up at him in surprise, your eyes probably red and puffy from crying.
“What are you doing?” you sobbed, leaning in closer to him. It was comforting, but you were so embarrassed that you were crying in the arms of a complete stranger.
“Well, uh, I know that hugging someone can release endorphins, more specifically dopamine and serotonin, that calm them down. And it relaxes the muscles, and I know that when babies hear their mom’s heartbeats they feel better, so I just thought—”
“Peter.”
“Yeah?”
“Please stop talking.” You leaned into the hug, taking in the clean smell of his sweater and how warm he was. Little by little, your breathing slowed down.
“Okay,” he agreed, holding you tighter, one of his hands gently stroking your hair in the comfortable silence that had filled the elevator.
You almost forgot about where you were when the elevator jolted upwards, causing you to wriggle out of Peter’s grip and pick your files back up off the ground. When the doors opened, you scrambled out without a word.
----------------
“Hey, Mr. Stark,” Peter began, fiddling with one of the many decorations around Tony’s office. “I… I think that, maybe, I should be doing, you know, more intern-y things around here.”
Tony cocked an eyebrow, looking up from his computer screen. “Let me get this right, kid. You’re asking me to give you random tasks to do around the office?”
“Uh, yes?” Peter answered, unsure if he had just made a big mistake or not. His confidence was dwindling by the second.
“Now, why on earth would I do that? What if we need Spider-Man for a mission, but Peter Parker is too busy getting some jackass down in HR a peppermint mocha latte?”
“Well, I mean… I just… Some of the other interns are getting kind of mad that you don’t make me run errands or come to any of their meetings, and I’m just worried that they’re getting a little bit too suspicious that I’m always with you and—”
“If I say yes, will you please stop rambling?” Tony groaned, returning to finish typing whatever Peter had just interrupted.
“Yes,” Peter squeaked. For once in his life, his inability to stop talking had been beneficial.
“Fine. Here, go sit downstairs and take the staples out of these packets. And then re-staple them.”
Peter immediately perked up again, excited to be someone other than Spider-Man to Tony. “Right away, Mr. Stark. Thank you so much! Bye!” He quickly ran out of the office and downstairs to where he knew some of the interns liked to have their lunch breaks.
“Is that Peter?” you heard Grace ask in between bites of her panini. Your head perked up to see his head tilted down, making only his soft brown curls visible from where you were sitting.
You squinted, wondering what kind of task had him so engrossed, and why he was sitting over here. He never sat here, especially not while you were eating lunch. Carlos, who interned in accounting, glanced over at Peter before taking his seat across from you.
“Parker sure does seem interested in removing staples all of a sudden,” he laughed, unwrapping his tortilla wrap from its aluminum foil.
You couldn’t believe it. He was just pretending to be doing something. “That’s it? You’ve got to be kidding me.” Before your friends could stop you, you were marching over to Peter’s table, tapping your foot as you waited for him to notice you.
You cleared your throat, finally catching his attention. “Hi, Y/N,” he grinned, looking back down to meticulously bend back the small metal arms of the staple, freeing the sheets of paper from each other.
“What the hell are you doing?”
“Taking out staples.”
“Is this some kind of joke? Some weird way of you proving that Mr. Stark totally doesn’t give you special treatment or something?” Peter got nervous, realizing how quickly you had caught onto his ruse. He needed a way to distract you and fast.
“You, um, you look pretty today,” he told you, not even looking up to meet your cold stare.
A blush started to spread across your cheeks when you realized what he had said. Surely the quick glance he had just given you wasn’t enough for him to actually know what you looked like today.
“Nice try, Parker. You barely even looked at me. Showering me with false compliments isn’t going to stop me from figuring out what the hell you’re actually up to around here.” You countered, satisfied that his plan wasn’t working as well as he wanted it to.
“Didn’t need to look. You’re pretty every day,” Peter replied calmly. He didn’t even realize what he was saying until it had come out of his mouth. It was true. He thought you looked nice every time he saw you, but you didn’t seem to take his compliments very well, and so he never told you.
But you didn’t know that he actually meant it. He’s just messing with you, you reasoned, regaining your composure.
“Whatever,” you huffed. “Just some advice: next time, you should try to come up with something better than taking out the staples of packets that clearly never had any problems in the first place.”
He peered up to see you turn on your heels and walk back to your friends, who had been carefully watching the two of you this entire time.
“Was that a lovers’ quarrel?” Carlos teased as you sat back down. You rolled your eyes at him, and Grace giggled at your insistence that nothing was going on between you and Peter.
“Yeah, it looked like things were getting a little hot and heavy,” she added.
“Shut up, you guys. We definitely are not lovers,” you assured them, digging back into your grilled cheese.
“Sure. So if there’s nothing going on, then why did Yuri tell me that he saw you guys making out in the elevator on the security cameras?” Carlos asked, making you snap your head at him mid-bite, your eyes widening.
Fucking Yuri. All of those security interns were just nosy and power-hungry, but you’d have to deal with him another time.
“We were not making out! We were just stuck in the elevator and—”
“You guys decided to have a romantic embrace?” Grace questioned, only further exasperating you. “Come on, Y/N, just admit it. You have a crush on Peter.”
“No, I don’t! I wouldn’t date Peter if he were the last guy on the planet,” you yelled, suddenly aware of how loud you had become.
You looked around the room to see many confused faces staring back at you, including Peter’s, which had a frown on it.
You watched as he collected his stack of papers and walked out of the room, staring so hard at the floor that he almost ran into two women who were walking by.
“Geez, Y/N. We were only joking. It’s okay,” Carlos said, holding back a laugh at your little scene.
“You guys suck,” you huffed, settling down to hopefully enjoy the rest of your lunch break in peace.
You needed to forget about the way that Peter had looked at you just a minute ago, full of hurt and disappointment. He didn’t actually care, you thought to yourself, even though you weren’t quite sure if that were true.

Information on Amy.
(Be warned it's a ~little bit~ long, any other pieces of information you want to know I'll gladly answer if you ask.)
~General Information~
Fandom: Toy Story.
Name: Amy the Ragdoll.
Nickname, if any: Amy, Ames, and Doll-Face(usually by more villainous characters or used in a joking manner).
Gender: Female.
Sexuality: ??? (I mean I know the gender of who she has a crush on, but I'm unsure on what her actual sexuality should be tbh)
Age: Mentally, mid-twenties in the first story second movie, thirties to forties in the third and fourth. Physically, she doesn’t have an age, but in regards to when she was made (the 1950’s) makes her fifty to sixty.
City they currently live in: San Francisco, apparently that’s where Toy Story takes place.
Any pets: Would Rex count? He just follows her around like a nervous puppy.
Current occupation: I mean she’s practically a therapist, but she’s a toy and she only treats Rex so it probably doesn’t count lol
~Physical Appearance~
Height: 10 inches.
Body type: Stocky, but a bit gangly too, similar to Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Eye colour: Black.
Skin tone: Light.
Clothing style: Pale green/turquoise shirt with short puffed sleeves, with a denim dungaree dress with a daisy print in the centre over it. She wears yellow rain boots.
Hairstyle: No style, it’s just there. It’s messy and gets in her face easily and is made out of dark brown thin string.
~Speech/Language/Communication~
Amy speaks quietly and politely, rambles a bit if left without a reply or under pressure, very nervous in front of intimidating characters.
First language: English.
Learned languages: A bit of Spanish (Ya’ll remember Toy Story 3!)
Accent: American.
Pitch of voice: High, but soft, not quite annoying, unless she’s stressed, then it gets very pitchy and shrill.
~Behaviour/Habits~
Amy tends to just stand there when she can’t find anything to do, and will immediately try to find Rex, Hamm, Buzz or Jessie if surrounded by strangers (Though she’s not sure if it’s for their comfort or her own) Amy is very polite.
Spending habits: She doesn’t like to be made a fuss of at all, the very fact of someone giving something to her is unnerving (even if the thing never costed anything at all) and she feels compelled to give the giver something in return.
Morning routine: She gets up same time as the others, but wishes she could stay in bed a bit longer though. Before she came to Andy’s room, her sleep pattern was all over the place.
Bedtime routine: Similar to above, now she goes to bed the same time as the others, but before she just slept and got up willy-nilly.
Nervous habits: Amy will try to find Rex if she’s nervous, and she’ll pretend it’s because she’s worried for him, which is quite true, but she also just feels most safe with him. Speaking of, Amy will let Rex hold her hand and squish it whenever he or Amy is nervous, it’s calming to the both of them.
Bad habits: Not a very good exerciser, but then again, she’s spend basically half her life in a small attic, so I’ll give her a break.
Skills/talents: She’ very logical, mind-over-matter, (mostly, very good at calming others down and/or convincing them. She’s very good at spelling and knows quite a lot of words, some of which others haven’t even heard of.
Hobbies: Reading, talking (especially with Rex, Jessie or Hamm), and generally just lazing about or walking around somewhere, on her own or with a friend.
~The Past~
Amy’s first owner was a little girl called Alice. Alice loved nothing more than to read Amy stories (Mostly fairy tales), but of course, Alice grew up like all kids do, and she left Amy in the attic for someone else to have her.
Amy waited for many years, and all that time she’d never given up that someone would find her.
She thought she’s hit the jackpot when Andy and his family move into Alice’s old house, but they don’t go up into the attic to collect her. Some weeks later, though, Andy’s mother brings a set of boxes filled with junk into the attic and leaves. Woody, Buzz, Slinky, and Rex were trapped in one of the boxes (Call me a cheater but this part was actually inspired by a Toy Story comic, where those four toys get stuck in the attic that way and have to escape. It struck me odd that they never met at least one new friend there, so I made one. It was also my first story, I needed some inspiration!)
Amy, in a fit of panic, goes and hides.
But then she’s found by Rex as he and the others try to find a way out.
They then decide to let the strange, dust-covered ragdoll come back to Andy’s rom with them. (well, Rex did, anyway.)
Home town: Would Alice’s old room count? But it’s now Andy’s Room, so it won’t count will it?
Happy or sad childhood: Pretty normal to be honest, as normal a life as a toy could have anyway. And as for sadness, having spent all that time on her own for all those years, having missed out on so much, is a little sad. But Amy made sure she never became bitter over it or used it as an excuse for anything.
Earliest memory: Waking up in her toy store, with a friend of hers for company (a ragdoll Prospector, a much as she remembers) and as she gets bought by Alice’s Auntie, she says she hopes he gets picked up by a kid. (Unbeknownst to her, she would meet him again in a while to find out he never got to experience it)
Saddest memory: One, being left by Alice, yet being so happy for her and how much she’s grown up, if she could cry tears of joy for her owner, she would. Two, some (or most) of the days she spent waiting for a new owner to arrive. And three, watching Rex have a mental breakdown of anxiety.
Happiest memory: One, the time she and Alice went to the park, (Amy absolutely adores nature) Two after sliding down a drainpipe to get to Andy’s room, and three, having known she’d helped her friend out.
Significant events: Being bought, being left in an attic, being rescued from the attic, while gaining some new friends.
~Family~
The entirety of Andy’s room, whether they like it or not, they’re all in this together and are some kind of mish-mash, found family in a sense.
Siblings: I’ve been thinking of giving Amy a brother (since I based her on Raggedy Ann, a matching bootleg Raggedy Andy seems reasonable) bur I’m unsure about it, since I’ve already mapped out Amy’s entire series of stories (Around six or seven all together, so far I’m currently writing only the third) and I can only fit him in the fifth or sixth if I can.
~Relationships~
Romantically? I’d like to say she has a crush on Rex, I don’t know why I thought of it, I was contemplating it one day as I sketched a rough (and terrible) sketch of her, and I drew Rex too because he’s just so fun to draw and I wanted to make a scale for Amy’s size, and one of my friends (who had been watching me) immediately said “I ship it!” and well, the rest is history, I made the decision to ship it too.
Friends: Jessie, Hamm, Buzz, and Rex are her closet friends, but she’d like to say that all the Gang are her friends. Later on she becomes good friends with Mr. Prickle Pants, Buttercup, Trixie and Totoro, and she absolutely loves the peas and Forky.
Best friend(s): Hamm, Mr. Prickle Pants, Jessie, and Rex.
What do people like about them? Amy’s pretty easy to talk to, she’s polite and attentive and will sit in companionable silence with someone if they need it. But she won’t hesitate to give hard truths and advice if it’s needed.
What do people dislike about them? Amy is quite a doormat, if someone is rude to her or breaches anything she just lets it happen, and sometimes she’s too indecisive about her own stuff, unsure whether she’s going to offend others or not over the smallest things, which annoys others quite a bit.
~Mentality/Personal Beliefs~
Amy is a toy of logic, and though she believes others can do it if they set their minds to it, she doesn’t quite believe in herself. She believes she must follow the rules of being a toy at all times, no matter what.
Phobias: Dust. She hates it. It took a good five weeks to brush all the dust out her hair and clothes, and even so there’s still some in her pockets and places she can’t reach. And being alone, too. Now she can’t be alone for more than an hour before she starts to get antsy and nervous. And for a short time books gave her a strange tiredness, after reading them for so long and for so many years she couldn’t even stand the sight of them.
But of course, not for long, since Amy found out Andy had a copy of Red’s Dream by a Mr. William Reeves.
Optimist or pessimist: Depends on the situation really, if her mind can’t come up with a solution, then there’s no point in trying anymore. Unless someone else can think of something, that is.
Personal philosophies: “You are here to make good things happen. No person here is made for one reason only, or even only one. There’s no point in pretending to be someone you’re not just for the attention of others, no matter how cool they are. We should find are own meaning, as we’re the only ones who have control of it.
It’ll take a while, but I swear, it’ll be worth it.”
Biggest dream/wish: Amy wants nothing more than to find meaning for herself, but finds it rather hard to do so. Of course, that doesn’t mean she’ll settle for someone else’s meaning. As cheesy as it sounds, she just wants an adventure. She doesn’t necessarily want to be the hero, though, she’s just happy to go along with the ride so long as it gets her out the house for a few hours. She also, above all else, wants Rex to find meaning too, even if she never does, it would be nice to know that he had.
Greatest strength(s): Persuasion, story-telling, logic, and good grammar.
Biggest flaw: Despite being a ragdoll, Amy can’t sew because of her fingerless hands, which are just soft mittens in shape. Amy is also quite a doormat, as I said before, so if her calm persuasion and reasoning doesn’t work, she’s left to be walked all over.
Regrets: Staying in that dratted attic too long, the window was open, she could’ve just climbed out, but no, she had to stay there for some mind-rotting decades. But if she had just escaped, she would never have met her new friends. Amy just wishes she had met them a lot sooner.
Achievements: Escaped the attic, slid down a drainpipe, leapt onto the windowsill (though nearly knocking Woody and Buzz over in the process) stopped her friend from having a panic attack, and managed to remember the entire Dictionary and is able to recite it down from A to Z, and even Z to A.
Secrets: Not much, just strange feelings for one of her friends, but it’s not much of a secret, Bo knows, and Mr. Potato Head and Hamm could see it from a mile away, and the others have their suspicions.
Goals: Read the entirety of Andy’s (and later Bonnie’s) bookshelves, become more confident in herself, have her own book-worthy adventure, and figure out what those strange feelings for her friend is.
~Likes/Favourites~
Favourite colour: Even before meeting Rex, Amy’s favourite colour was always green. Every time Alice had taken her to the park, Amy adored watching the sunlight pour through the leaves with a golden-green glow.
Favourite book(s): Because it’s sentimental to her, being her owner’s favourites, she loves Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and The Wizard of Oz. They all hold similar plots (a little girl in a blue dress goes to a fantasy land, has a few adventures, and then leaves said fantasy land to go home to her family and responsibilities) but it reminds Amy of her old owner Alice (who was actually named after Alice from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland) and their playtimes together.
Favourite Book Quotation(s):
“Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.”
“There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger. The true courage is facing danger when you are afraid.”
Favourite movie: Amy does much prefer books, since they allow her to imagine the setting and characters in her own way, but doesn’t mind movies, and isn’t picky on what they watch, though she does quite like horror films.
Favourite song: Amy likes any kind of music, new or old.
Favourite game: Amy never really cared for games, the competitiveness always bothered her and stressed her out. But she’s more than happy to watch Rex play his video games and cheer him on.
~Relationships with other characters~
~Rex~
- Hit it off pretty quickly.
- Amy helps him with his anxiety, and helps him find confidence in himself, she acts as a certain therapist to him.
- Both become very stressed without the other around.
- Rex will hold and knead at Amy’s hands sometimes; it calms him down.
- Rex will let Amy ride on his back if she’s tired or needs to see something (Because she’s so short).
- One of them can basically be talking about the most boring-est things ever, yet still the other will hang on to their every word.
~Jessie~
- Became friends pretty quickly.
- Will drag Amy along anywhere.
- Get along fairly well.
- Jessie does the talking and Amy does the planning.
- Jessie always pranks the other toys and makes Amy tag along (along with Hamm).
- Introvert/Extrovert dynamic for sure.
- Both were left in alone for years so like to find solace in each other.
~Hamm~
- Hamm begrudgingly warmed up to the timorous ragdoll.
- Surprisingly good pals.
- Have full conversations without saying anything.
- Like to sit and look out of the window together.
- Hamm makes Amy laugh when she really shouldn’t (mainly when he makes fun of the other toys, mainly Woody).
- Hamm makes fun of Amy having a crush on Rex every once in a while, though he doesn’t mean any harm.
~The Potato Heads~
- Mr. doesn’t really interact with Amy much, but finds her surprisingly tolerable, if a bit high-strung and annoying.
- Like Hamm, Mr. makes Amy laugh at the most wrong moments.
- She and Mrs. Are quite good friends, and she sometimes lets Amy take care of the aliens if she and her husband are busy.
~Woody~
- Are aquianteces.
- Don’t exactly interact much, even though the whole room practically revolves around him, in Amy’s opinion, though she would never say it to his face.
~Buzz~
- Amy thinks he’s super cool (then again, he is Buzz Lightyear, he practically invented coolness)
- Both are just as clueless as one another when it comes to social cues and interactions.
- Amy helps him with vocabulary and spelling every once in a while.
~Mr. Prickle Pants~
- Are absolute BFF’s.
- Go back and forth with book quotes to the point of driving the other toys insane.
~Bo Peep~
- Amy's not exactly sure if Bo has befriended her or not.
- (She has)
- They later become good friends.
- Amy misses their talks, Bo was one of the only toys she could talk to that could keep a secret.

New girl (Twilight au Witch x Edward)
WARNING: this will be crap but I like writing so let me know what you think and Thank you!
I hope you enjoy it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Walking into the damp forest was relaxing to me, I hugged my hoodie closer to me as a gust of wind blew past me, sending chills down my spine.
“A little chilly isn't it?” I remarked to myself as I continued to walk in the forest from my house. I listened to the birds sing as I stepped over roots and hopped over a little stream before I stepped onto the gravel. Glancing around I was confused to see that I was in front of someone's house, it was a couple of stories high with glass and wood covering the sides, in front of the house were a couple of fancy cars. Oops, I went farther than I intended, I pondered to myself as I turned around and walked back home, humming along the way.
Once I stepped through the door I could hear my dad doing something in the kitchen, so I crept closer to the doorway and peeked in to see him placing a black pan of something on the counter with smoke coming off it. “Not go as planned?” I asked, wandering over to inspect the damage. Did it look like some kind of meatloaf? My dad laughed as he turned to open a window to let the smoke out.
“No, it didn't. How about I order some pizza?” He grabbed his phone and started looking up pizza places near us. Got to love my dad when there is nothing to make pizza will always be the answer, not that I would complain of course. “Sure! Pepperoni please.” I picked up the pan with an oven mitten and dumped it in the trash. “And I won't ask what this dish was ok?” I joked, putting it in the sink for later. He just laughed and started calling around.
I walked past him to go to my room upstairs to unpack more of my things, listening to music as I do. Once I was unpacked I glanced around my new room and then grabbed my sketchbook I had thrown on my bed while I unpacked and went to the window seat I had in my room. It was one of the reasons my dad chose this house, that and how deep into the forest it was. We liked our privacy. Flipping to a new page I started to draw the view outside my window. Drawing always seemed to calm me down or relax me. Soon I finished that drawing and then started to draw the house I walked to.
Just as I was finishing it my dad hollered up the stairs that the pizza was here. “Yay!” I giggled, hopping up from the window seat. I go to the kitchen to see my dad setting the plates on the tables for us. “Thanks, Dad,” I said, munching down on a slice before putting it on my plate with another slice.
He just laughed at me and got a couple himself. “Walk anywhere fun?” The house I saw popped in my head but then I shook my head, going back to eating my pizza. “No.” His eyebrows went up but then he dropped the subject. “Ok, then are you excited about starting school tomorrow?” That made me smile. “Yeah, actually but it seems that a girl named Isabella Swan is starting school tomorrow as well. I heard some of the people talking about her at the gas station. She’s the sheriff's daughter.” I said, as I ate the last of my pizza and went for another.
We ate with jokes about the move and after I washed the dishes, I went back up to my room and played some music as I doodled on a page. Wasn’t long before I headed to bed and woke up to my alarm blazing from my phone. After shutting it off and getting ready for the day I came downstairs to grab something to eat before heading to school. I wasn’t surprised to see my dad already making breakfast before his day starts. “Hey, kiddo.” He said as I came into the kitchen to see him putting some scrambled eggs on two plates.
“Hey, I can at least make some easy eggs.” He joked putting one of the plates on one side as I got the juice and poured us some. As I put them down we sat and ate. When we finished the plates went in the sink and I grabbed my keys and hugged my dad before driving to school.
I played some music as I drove, as soon as I got to the school a group of people was around a brown-haired girl who looked a little uncomfortable with the attention. That must be Isabell Swan. I hopped out of my car and easily walked around them as they fussed over her. Getting my schedule and directions to my classes was easy enough. I was a little late to my first class but that was because I got a little turnaround.
Once I knew I was at the right door, I knocked and opened it to see an older man at the front of the class that turned to me with a smile. “You must be the new student Luna ?” I nodded and walked over to him as the class went silent and stared at me as I handed the teacher my schedule. “Well, welcome, I am Mr. Varner and welcome to Calculus. I hope you’re good at math.” He joked then turned to survey the class. “You can take the seat next to Edward.” He waved at a boy in the very back with an empty seat.
“Ok.”
Ignoring the stares and some glares that I was confused about I sat down and nodded to the ‘Edward’ I was sitting by and looked straight as the teacher continued the lesson. When the teacher was asking people to answer the big math equation he had on the board, I figured out the answer and wrote it down as the guy next to me answered it correctly.
The class went on like that, and each time Edward would answer some of the girls would turn and stare at him. I wonder why they keep staring? Can’t they tell that it is annoying him? Taking a moment to look at him I could see why people would stare at him. He is very handsome and some might think beautiful but even the beautiful don’t want to be stared at for long.
Just as I was thinking that he turned his head to look at me and I ducked my head and turned away. That was dumb of me, I shouldn’t have stared! Focusing more on the lesson, I wrote down each answer, and when the bell rang I handed that to the teacher. He just laughed and then handed me the math book. “I’m so sorry about that.” I waved it off. “No, it’s fine Mr. Varner. But how would I get to.” I paused to look at the schedule again. “History.”
As I was asking him, he looked behind me and smiled. “Why don’t you have Edward show you the way,” he suggested, and Edward upon hearing must have stopped and stared at me. Feeling his eyes dig holes into my skull cause I didn’t turn around made me feel like I wasn’t worth his time. “No, it’s fine I’ll find it somehow.” I lightly giggled, taking my schedule back and walking around Edward as he stood aside from the door. Wouldn’t want him to hate me.
After a few trials and errors, I found my history class. This teacher was a nice lady with glasses, after giving her my schedule back she asked me to sit next to a girl named Alice. I liked her spiky hair. She smiled and I couldn’t help but smile back, not looking her in the eyes. I took my seat and listened to the lesson while writing down notes. Halfway through the lesson the teacher Mrs. Wilcox stopped and turned to me. “If you need help catching up I’m sure anyone would love to help you.” It was funny seeing Alice’s hand shoot up. “I can help her if she has any questions.” Her cheerfulness is nice, she seems like a great person to know. “Well ok then, if you have any questions just ask Alice then.” She said as she went back to her lesson.
“Alice,” Alice said, putting her hand out to me with a smile. “Luna,” I whispered, shaking her cold hand. The instant my hand touched hers my mind went blank as her life went through my mind. I let go of her hand and nodded to her before looking upfront and sifting through her memories. She can see the future? Neat. I smiled to myself as I was glad to not be the only one who is not normal.
When the bell rang I got up to go to my next class when I felt a hand grab my shoulder. I jumped back a bit at that, jerking to look at who it was before dropping my gaze at who it was. “Oh, sorry I thought you might need help finding your next class.” Alice smiled. She is nice. “Sure, my next class is art.” “This way!” she said, walking in one direction, Hurrying after her I kept up as she kind of danced the way, it was interesting to see someone dance walk.
Reaching my class I turned and thanked Alice before heading in. “No problem.” Watching her dance away was funny. And she is so tiny. For some reason, that class went by fast which I was sad about cause I liked Art. As soon as the class was over I asked Mrs. Bloom where my next class was English with Mrs. William. When that class was over I asked the teacher for directions to the lunchroom and after she told me I went and got some lunch and sat at an empty table next to another in the corner.
Just as I sat down and pulled out my sketchbook to draw as I ate, I saw Isabella at a table. She seems to like it here. Going back to a drawing of the lunchroom I heard a girly giggle. I saw it was just Alice with a guy who looked like he was in pain. I wonder if something happened. Seeing others come through the door I watched as a beautiful blonde and a big guy came and sat down at the table I was next to.
Alice waved at me which made me duck my head as the others turned to me. I never ate that fast in my life. Throwing my garbage away I went back to my seat and was finishing the drawing of the lunchroom when someone came over to me. “Hello.”
“Hi,” I said, without looking up. “No need to be rude.” the person scoffed and walked off. “I wasn’t,” I whispered, a little hurt. Motion to my side caught my eye, and after glancing over to the table with the beautiful people, I looked away as I saw Edward seeming to glare at me. I thought back to think if I offended him somehow and I couldn’t think of any.
Maybe I’m just destined to be hated for no reason. Getting back to my drawing I finished it and put my sketchbook in my bag as I grabbed my schedule again. “Late again.” Alice’s voice made me glance over to see a medium-built guy sitting down breathing hard, clutching his tray. “Shush Alice It’s not my fault the teacher is a devil to me.” He defended himself, as he began to eat as his life depended on it. His dark brown hair swayed as he chatted with Alice.
Looking away from their table I looked at the schedule to see I had Digital Media next. But where would that be? I could ask Alice but Edward seems like he doesn’t want me near them, judging by the glare he hasn’t dropped when he looks my way. I gave up as I picked up my backpack and started for the door.
I wasn’t watching where I was going, cause the next thing I know I bumped into the back of someone. “Sorry!” I hurriedly exclaimed, quickly walking away and out the door. I walked aimlessly around until I finally found the class. I entered right as the bell rang and got a seat at the very back. The seats next to me were empty until someone got up and sat next to me. “Hi, I’m Asher.” A voice said to my right. Peeking over I saw it was the guy that was sitting with the beautiful people. “Hi.” I nodded, seeing the teacher come in and hand out the tablets that we plug into the computers.
It wasn’t long before we’re drawing something in photoshop. As I was drawing I felt a hole digging into the side of my head. “Did I do something?” I whispered to them since the teacher was walking around. “Oh, no I was just wondering if you were going to tell me your name. You did bump into me at lunch.” He chuckled, turning back to the computer. My face started to burn as I ducked my head to hide my face. Stupid! Of course, he would want to know your name. So he can call you out on it.
“Luna. And I’m sorry for bumping into you I didn’t mean to.” He simply shook his head. “Luna then, it’s fine. I was going to tell you it was fine but you were gone before I could. My sister did tell me to be nice to you though.” I stopped drawing to peek at him again. “Your sister?” “Yeah. Alice?” I felt my eyes go wide. She is his sister?! “Alice is your sister? But you don’t-” “Look alike?” He laughed softly. “Well, that is because we are adopted. All of us are.” Ah, that’s cool! “So everyone on that table is adopted?”
I went back to drawing on the computer as he was silent for a moment, probably thinking of if I am worth his time. “We are but some of them are together.” “Together?” I questioned as I added the finishing touches and got ready to send it to the teacher’s email. Just as I did he leaned over to see what I drew. “Wow, that is good!” “Thanks.” Leaning back so I don’t accidentally touch him and see his mind. No one wants their mind invaded.
He soon realized that he was too close and backed up sheepishly. “Sorry.” I just shook my head. “You were talking about them together?” It was a little funny seeing him go from sheepish to beaming. “Right. Well, Alice, I’m sure you met Jasper the curly blonde one.” I thought back to the one who looked like they were in pain. “And Rosalie the beauty is with Emmet the huge guy.” “They do look like a cute couple,” I commented, with a little smile.
“Right! They make a lot of people jealous. It's quite funny to see.” He laughed a little too loud cause the teacher came over. “Need help, Asher? Luna?” I shook my head, pointing to my screen that showed that I sent my work to him already. “No Sir I was just chatting with Luna, since we are both done I just have to send you my work.” I stared as his tone went from happy to monotone. It was weird.
Mr. Turner simply nodded his head and went back to walking around the room, helping people. I glanced at the clock to see it was almost time for the class to end. Pulling my bag into my lap I waited. “Why don’t you look at people?” I heard Asher ask, he had turned to me. I felt my body freeze. Think of something! “I ah I have this fear of looking people in the eyes.”
He looked like he didn’t believe me but then shrugged. “Alright, that would explain it I guess.” Before he could ask more questions the bell rang and I jumped out of my seat. “Yeah. Bye!” I answered, walking out the room before he could catch me.
Marching through the halls I tried to get to my last class while not hitting anyone. I almost collided with the blonde beauty Rosalie around the corner. Barely missing her I apologized and went to my last class Social Studies. Once I got to the class I headed straight for the back seats in the corner. Glad that no one sat next to me. That joy went down a little when I saw Asher enter the classroom but he didn’t seem to see me as he sat at the front.
The teacher Ms. Simms welcomed me in the back to which I just waved and sunk into myself again. “And if you need any help I’m sure someone is willing to help.” She smiled as she walked to her desk and sat down. I didn’t need to look to feel someone staring at me cause it was answered when someone sat in the chair next to me. “You are fast you know that?” Asher jokes, getting his homework out to do as I already was finishing the English assignment I got. “Sorry,” I mumbled as I put the finished paper in my bag and brought out my sketchbook.
“No, It’s ok I’m a little nosy, sorry about that.” Shaking my head I hid a smile. “You’re fine anyone would want to know about the new people they meet right?” His face beamed. “Yeah. But it’s nice to have someone to talk to. Some of my friends only wanted to be my friend cause they wanted to get closer to my siblings. And cause you’re new and you don’t seem to want to get close to them I thought it might be nice if we could be friends if you’re ok with that.” He is cute. I'll give him that. My lips turned up as I held my hand out to him.
“A friend would be nice.”
“Great!”
I kept my little smile on my face as his memories came flooding into my head. “And it would be nice to have a guide around the school. I can’t count how many times I’ve lost my way.” I tried to joke which worked by his laugh.
Chatting with him came easier after that. We spent the whole class period talking while he worked on his homework. The bell rang as we were putting our stuff away and we walked out still chatting, it wasn’t until we got to the parking lot that we had to separate.
“Hey is it ok if I talk to you when you get to school tomorrow?” He asked as he was turning to go to his family, not parked far from us. “Sure.” He then turned back and grinned. “And sorry about my family I know they are weird with how happy Alice is and how Edward looks like he...Never mind.” I nodded, taking a step closer and patting his shoulder, and whispered. “It’s ok don’t worry about it I know it takes a bit for vampires to get used to being human again but it’s nice to see them being happy that way.”
I didn’t need to look up to see his face drain of all color as the muscle under my hand went stiff. “What did you say?” “Well, they are. And I have to go bye see you tomorrow.” I said as I headed to my car, now feeling multiple eyes digging into me. I started my car as there was a knock on my window. I jumped startled to see Asher panting at my window. “Catch your breath.” My hand went to roll down the window and he took a few deep breaths before looking at me as if he was going to plead.
Right as he went to speak my phone went off. Picking it up I saw that my dad messaged me not to forget the cheese at the store before sending over the whole list. Dad why? I turned back to Asher seeing Edward and Emmett coming over and that did nothing to help my heart. “Sorry Asher I have to go I’ll talk to you tomorrow bye.” Putting my car in gear I drove off as he stood there with his brothers.
Calming down my heart wasn’t easy but I did it. I know they were probably going to just ask me not to tell anyone. Not like I would but still, seeing two people walking over with mean expressions is not something I would wish on anyone.
I found the store pretty easily. And was getting what was on my grocery list when I saw a beautiful lady reaching for the top shelf for a sauce. “Would you like me to get that for you?” I asked, not wanting to be rude. She turned and her golden eyes smiled at me. “Yes if it’s alright.” I shook my head, trying not to hug her as I reached up and grabbed the sauce she was reaching for. I gave it to her and she thanked me and we went our separate ways, only to meet up in the parking lot.
She was standing outside her car looking defeated. “Did something happen?” I approached her, seeing some keys in the car with her holding a different pair of keys. “I left my car keys in the car. And I only have my house keys.” She explained as she continued to look defeated. “Do you have someone to come pick you up or someone to come pick up the car cause if so I can give you a ride home?” I offered, seeing that made her look at me.
“I wouldn’t mind but are you sure?” At that, I gave a small smile not looking her in the eyes. “Yeah, I don’t mind if that’s ok with you miss…” “Esme.” I smiled at her this time. “Then Esme I wouldn’t mind driving you my car is this way.” I pointed as she was texting someone, before looking at me. “Ok then, one of my boys will come to get my car since he has the keys as well.” We walked over to my car and filled it up with our groceries. Getting in the driver’s seat I followed her directions to her house and to my surprise her house was the same one I walked to.
“Beautiful house,” I commented as I helped her take her groceries in before heading back to my car. “Would you like to stay for a bit?” Esme asked, and I don’t think I could say no to her, she had a motherly aura around her. “Sure just let me take my groceries to my house. It’s surprisingly close to yours.” She grinned. “Oh, you must be our new neighbors.” I nodded getting in my driver’s seat.
After putting the groceries away I put on my hoodie and walked over to her home and knocked, she greeted me and waved me in. Her home was stunning and spacious, it even had a piano! I sat down in one of the high chairs as we talked about the weather and our hobbies. It was nice talking to Esme, I shook her hand and felt sad for what she had to go through but she is happy so I can’t be too sad. It was refreshing to talk to her. I even got a snack from her.
It’s nice to see the vampires are happy with living among humans. As I was taking a sip of the tea, she made me, I felt a prog in my mind which usually lets me know when someone is trying to read my mind or that something is coming closer. “I’m sorry to ask this randomly but what is your last name Esme?” She paused her snack-making and smiled at me. “It’s Cullen. Dr. Cullen is my husband and we have this home with our kids. They go to forks high, you might know their names.” She started to count on her fingers. “Alice, Jasper, Rosalie, Emmett, Edward, and Asher.”
Just as she said Asher’s name a car engine cut off outside. “That must be them.” I took another sip from my cup as the Cullen clan came into view. The instant Edward saw me he started to glare. But when Alice saw me she skipped over to me and hugged me. “Hi, Luna.” “Hello, Alice.” They all seemed shocked by this but me and Alice. “I see you met.” Edward continued to glare as Asher just looked at me with pleading eyes. “Yeah, we met.” He then turned to Esme. “She knows.” “Of course I know,” I said as Esme’s face turned sad.
Alice let go of me and just stood next to me, when Jasper went to walk over to her she shook her head at him, looping her arm through mine. “You do give off the vibe of not being human you know,” I commented, shrugging as I turned back to grab my cup only to see Edward in front of me. I kept my head down as he stared me down. I finished my cup and hopped off to put it in the sink when he finally spoke.
“If you tell anyone.”
“You will kill me?” I tilted my head at that thought. “Well, then go ahead.” He was taken aback at that. “No?” glancing to see him back up a little I walked around the counter and put my cup in the sink. After I rinsed it out, I quickly washed it and put it on the dish rack.
I turned to see them all still standing there, and only Asher breathed. Seeing Alice still smiling at me made it seem funny. They were all ready to kill me but it seems she didn't. “Esme?” Walking over to her seemed a little nervous but then gave me a sad smile. “Is it alright if I come over tomorrow? I would like to try that tuna snack you were telling me about. If that’s ok if not I won’t.”
I waited for Esme to answer as a bouncy bunny came over to me and hugged me again. Does she have no fear? I wrapped an arm around her little shoulders. “You’re calming.” Her cheerful voice seemed to bring everyone back to the present. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Asher sitting down on one of the high chairs, watching us all.
“I would like it if you came back,” Esme said, walking over to us and placing her hand on my shoulder. “Ok,” I smiled at her before taking my arm from Alice and headed out the door. I didn’t make it a few steps on the gravel when someone grabbed my arm.
Turning back I saw Asher with Edward and Emmett behind him. “Hmm?” I tilted my head but kept my eyes closed. “Where are you going?” The grip on my arm was warm so I knew it was Asher who was holding my arm. “Home,” I said, simply taking my arm out of his grip. “Then can I walk you home seeing how it is getting dark?” He is sweet. I ruffled his hair and shook my head. “I’m ok, see you tomorrow.”
Without another word I smiled and walked back to my house past some trees. Stepping inside I was greeted with the smell of smoke. I held in a laugh as I went into the kitchen. “What happened this time?” I asked, opened the windows as he put the smoking pot on the counter. “It was soup since it looked chilly outside.” He defended himself. “Would you like to try again and let me help?” I laughed as he nodded in defeat.
I found a different pot and started helping him make the soup while cleaning the other one out. Even taking the trash out, I came back in and we ate, joking about it.
After we got done eating he insisted on doing the dishes so I went to my room and looked over my homework to make sure it was right and when I was satisfied I pulled out my sketchbook and started to draw before it got late and I went to bed.
Plotted starter for @lovelylostminds
“You gotta be kidding me.” Negan called out in pure frustration and threw the file of his new assigned partner on the table, while his boss only raised a brow in an unimpressed gesture. “I’m most obviously not, Mr Kanon.” the older responded and folded his hands in front of his face as he leaned back into his chair. “Where is your problem with Miss Romanoff?”
There was only a growl coming from Negan as an answer while Mr Jones just smiled self righteously back at him.
“Where my problem is? Where my fucking problem is?”
“Yes, Mr Kanon. I still think you’re able to hear what I say, don’t you? She’s everything you need. She’s capable, she’s well trained, she’s tough and her cold shell will be even able to stand your dirty tongue for longer than ten minutes and we all know how difficult that skill is to find.”
Of course his boss was right: in the last months Negan proudly managed to scare away five officers who were assigned to work with him and he just thought they finally would allow him to work alone since Jones was the only man left that could stand him. But this? This was definitely a new way of torturing him.
“She is a woman.” he spat out and pointed at the picture on the first page with his bared teeth.
“Yes, congratulations for checking at least the first page, that’s even more far than I expected from you.” Jones laughed to himself and got up from his chair to walk over to the cupboard and fill himself a glass of bourbon and if Negan wasn’t convinced all of this was a way to tease him by now, he definitely was sure now.
“This will not work out. I decline.” he stated and turnt around to leave, but if there was one voice in this world that was still able to reach him, it was from the last man alive he respected: Jones.
“You stop right there. You misunderstood me, Mr Kanon. This is not a choice. It is a decision. And it’s also your last chance. If you don’t manage to work with this lady, then I will suspend you. Once and for all.”
“You’re doing what?” Negan furrowed his brows and turnt his head over his shoulder. “Chief, I...”
“This discussion is over. Romanoff will help you work on this case. Everything you do from now on will be shared with her. If you have a problem, talk to her. If you need support for your investigations: you contact me. But if this woman will come to me tomorrow to tell me what a fucking bastard you are, then we are done here, Negan. This is your last chance. Take it or leave.”
There was nothing Negan could say at this point cause he knew that whenever Jones used his first name, he was more than serious and this man did so much for him during everything that happened with Lucille and their daughter Alice, that Negans last bit of a moral codex forbid him to contradict. With his nails digging into his palms he turnt around to grit his teeth and just as he was about to scream in frustration, Jones gestured outside of his office blinds where the lady from the picture was walking over the hallway.
“It’s time to meet your new partner. Don’t screw it up.” Jones warned him one last time before the door opened and a gentle smile appeared on the chiefs face. “Miss Romanoff. It’s so good to see you and you’re coming just at the right moment. This is Mister Kanon, your new partner. I’m sure you two will just match like ice on my whiskey.” To underline his saying he raised the glass with the brown liquor and took a sip, while Negans dark look wandered over to the woman now stepping next to him.
“Everybody knows you drink good whiskey without ice.” Negan mumbled to himself and forced out a “Nice to meet you.” in a sarcastic tone, faking a wide smile before he grabbed the file back from the table to gesture at his office. “Mi casa es tu casa.” he asserted with a teasing bow and stomped out of the room with a loud smash of the door behind him. This was fucking ridiculous. How could his own destiny at the only thing he had left be dependent on a woman he never saw before and now should trust so easily? His chief either followed a big plan here why he chose her, why he chose a woman, or he just had lost his mind to think that Negan could work with anyone.
Tumblr media
With a cuss to himself he entered his own office or better said his new shared office and sat down behind the desk to open the cases on his screen, his eyes immediately catching the unsolved file about his daughter. He shouldn’t click on it and he didn’t. For the first time in months it wasn’t his first act to read over the clues for the hundredth time cause he knew Natasha would follow him soon and no, she shouldn’t know about this shit. This was his thing, his alone and if they wanted him to prove he could work with someone to keep this job, then damn he would fake it until they would leave his ass alone again so he could focus on his real goal here: to kill the murderer of his daughter. But easier said than done.
What on Earth was he looking at here?
Logan stared at the display. A tiny baby figurine dangled in front of him, a long string of twine wrapped around its neck, thus hanging it from the ceiling.
His gaze hovered down to the nameplate for the piece: “ Fertility.”
“Are you kidding me…” Logan muttered under his breath, crossing his arms. He begrudgingly attempted to act intrigued while his mind ran blank.
He wasn’t sure if this display was what Patton intended for him to spend so much time at when he gave him the museum tickets, but here he was, spending precious time here : where the marble pillars stood at each corner of the room, where the air was thick with agreed-upon silence, where everything–  everything–  was beige, and where people in black turtlenecks lined the walls as they pinched their chins and hummed at the same time.
Logan knew Patton’s attempts of getting him out of the shop were well-intended, but he also knew this: he wasn’t supposed to be here. He was supposed to be writing, researching– anything but standing here and looking at what must have cost the artist two dollars.
Some cynical sense in him wondered if this answered his question more than he was able to on his own. Perhaps this was what giving up looked like. Perhaps, in a world with little to no meaning, art was meant to be a white flag; it was meant to mark where the earth cracked beneath your feet; it meant nothing.
“Quite the piece, hm?”
Logan spun on his heel. Facing him was a tall person, with brown eyes that basked golden in the sunlight that poured through the museum’s skylight. They wore a black vest overtop a pale, yellow button-up, sleeves rolled just before their elbow. Logan noted in particular the small enamel pin on the top right side of their vest; it was a small, twisting snake with scales of yellow, white, purple, and black. And Logan didn’t know much about people in general, but he knew that this was the sort of person you would look at twice in passing; once by accident, and once by enthrallment.
“Ferbachi’s ‘Fertility’ ,” the person hummed once more. A slight British accent tinged the end of their words. They stepped beside Logan and pointed at the twine around the hanging baby’s neck. “The twine represents fragility.”
“...It does?”
“No.” The person smiled smugly, not looking at Logan. “Not at all.”
Logan let out a small ‘ah’, awkwardly shifting back and forth.
“But I assume you were trying to find some meaning from the piece,” the person continued. “I’ve been watching you stand here, perplexed, for probably ten minutes now.”
‘It’s been ten minutes?’ Logan scrunched up his nose.
 “You’ve been watching me?” he asked instead.
The person shrugged. “Only a little. Reminiscent of someone hiding a toy from a dog, and the dog trying to figure out where his toy went.”
A pause. The person then added, “That is to say, incredibly amusing.”
Logan narrowed his eyes on the individual. “Are all museum-goers this annoying?”
“No no.” A wide, Cheshire cat grin. “Just nosy.”
Logan huffed, muttering under his breath a string of curses. The person turned to face Logan and outstretched their hand.
“My name is Dr. Janus Carson,” they said. Each word sounded rich with caramel. “And I am not a museum-goer, I am one of the art curators here.”
Logan scoffed. “So you were the one who thought this was a worthwhile display?”
“Well one, not necessarily how curating works. And two...you can blame my colleague, Dr. Remus Harden. Most of the things he curates are more contemporary and...well, strange.”
“ This is contemporary art?”
“I would invite you not to act so surprised,” Janus replied pointedly. “Everything is made by someone...”
“Logan,” Logan supplied. “Logan Fray. He/him”
Janus nodded. “Everything is made by someone, Mr. Fray. Which means everything is enriched in some sort of purpose. Even if the purpose is meaningless.”
Logan blinked. Janus’ words felt like sound that was lost in a cave, helplessly bouncing against the walls, looking for somewhere to go.
“So why do you think someone made this?”
“I don’t know, Mr. Fray. Why does anyone make anything at all?”
A beat of silence.
“Precisely,” Logan murmured.
“Pardon?”
“I– um, is there somewhere I can get coffee here?” Logan blurted out. “I...I think I need a break from all–” He motioned at the hanging baby– “this.”
“Me as well,” Janus hummed, already walking away. They motioned for Logan to follow them without turning around. “And afterwards, I can give you a tour of something that perhaps can give you some answers.”
Logan felt his heart race. “How did you know I’m–”
“You are not the first pretentious existentialist to walk into a museum,” Janus drawled, still walking. Logan quickened his pace, frantically trying to stay beside them.
“How–”
“It’s Tuesday, Mr. Fray, and you’re in a museum alone.” Janus stopped and looked him up and down. “And honestly, the shoes give it away.”
Logan, bewildered and with child-like embarrassment, looked down at his shoes. He thought the shoes looked rather nice.
“Hurry along, Mr. Fray.” Janus’ accented voice rang in his ears like an alarm. “We don’t have all day.”
Patton paced back and forth along the shelves of Fray and Far Fables, Roman floating right behind him.
“How about The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert!” Roman magically lifted the book off the shelves and flew it over Patton’s head so it could stop Patton in his tracks. “I read it the other night and found it to be fascinating! There’s this grandma who writes real grim-dark fairy tales and dies and this girl– Alice– her mother gets stolen by someone in her grandma’s stories–”
“That sounds too spooky!” Patton waved his hand in front of the book and pushed through it, Roman lifting the book back up before Patton could barrel head-first into its hardcover.
“Gah– how about The Signature of All Things! You read that one recently! Wouldn’t you want to visit the Whittaker estate: the flowers, the plants–”
“I– I don’t know, I feel like I have already been there, ya know?”
“Great Odin’s eyepatch–  Patton!” Roman flew over Patton’s head and hovered in front of his nose, arms crossed. “We’ve been walking circles around the store and you have yet to give me one book! When you said you wanted to go in a book nook, I didn’t expect to be bored!”
“I know, I know!” Patton buried his face in his hands. “There’s just so many choices! I don’t want to make a wrong choice!”
Roman sighed. “You can’t pick a wrong choice, Patton. And even if you do, we can always just leave and go to another one!”
Patton let out a muffled groan beneath his palms. Maybe he should’ve done a bit more research before coming in today.
He closed his eyes. A million stories appeared in the blots of the darkness; there were visions of the cotton-candy worlds in his bedtime stories, tall mountains and deep seas. Heck, if he really wanted to, he could just pick up Around the World in Eighty Days and he could go anywhere he wanted! (Probably!) So why was this so hard?
Patton opened his eyes and looked at Roman.
“What’s your favourite story?”
Roman’s frown sent a flurry of regret in Patton’s chest. But the feeling eased a bit when Roman scrunched up his face and whizzed right past him to one of the shelves behind the front counter.
“I have a favourite,” Roman finally said, “but you’re going to have to keep a secret. Is that okay?”
“Yeah! Yes, of course,” Patton stammered. He grabbed his sketchbook and watercolour set, tucking a brush behind his ear as he watched Roman disappear behind some of the books on the shelf.
The books Roman moved behind began to slowly lift themselves off the shelves. Patton watched with wonder as they parted in the air, like double doors to a castle, revealing Roman standing beside a thin book that was pressed flat against the back of the shelves, only showing its brown, leather cover. It seemingly blended into the colour of the wood.
“Oh!” Patton tucked his sketchbook and watercolour set underneath his arm. He then held out his hands as Roman levitated the book towards him. Patton let the book sit softly in his palms. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen this one before.”
He opened the first page. It seemed like a notebook, pages yellowed with time. Patton squinted at the faded cursive scrawled on the lines: The Midnight Forest by…
“V...Aries,” Patton read aloud. Roman nodded, flying over to sit on Patton’s shoulder. Patton looked at him with a frown. “Isn’t this the philosopher Logan likes?”
“Mhm. Logan doesn’t know this ‘cause not many people do, but Virgil Aries used to write poetry books.” His smile faltered. “Well, a poetry boo k; it’s the one you’re holding right now . He only ever wrote one, and he didn’t even publish it.”
Patton smiled, flipping through some of the pages.
“Why haven’t you ever told Logan about it?”
A beat of silence.
“I don’t think I could. You’re sorta the only person who’s ever asked.” Roman shrugged. “Besides, it’s not like many people knew Virgil Aries by his poetry– they only ever knew him by his theories of philosophy.” A pause. Roman added, “It’s...it’s nice to keep some unknown parts of him away from all that.” He laughed quietly. “Dude was really sad.”
Patton nodded wordlessly, half-listening as he ran his fingers across the bumps of the pen marks on each thin page. It reminded him of the subtle glances he would sneak at Logan whenever he stopped by the shop, catching him writing or deep in thought as he browsed the books. He imagined if Virgil Aries might have let his pen dance across the paper, similar to the way he knew Logan did, ink gliding across paper floors almost seamlessly.
He took one more look at Roman, who was also reading over his shoulder. His eyebrow was furrowed and his demeanour seemed to dampen. Patton wondered then if Roman was thinking the same thing too.
“Alright! Well, I don’t know if you can make a book nook out of a poetry book, but I wouldn’t mind trying!” Patton finally said. Roman’s smile lifted ever so slightly. He floated off of Patton’s shoulder.
“I most definitely can!” Roman slowly descended onto the pages, going on one knee and pressing his palms flat against them. Circles of red magic appeared faintly beneath his hands.
“Lemme show you how book nooks are actually made! Hold on tight!”
“Hold on tight to wha–”
And before Patton could finish, he felt the book tremble in his hands. Strings of red magic suddenly sprouted from the open pages. Startled, Patton let go of the book. His eyes widened in fear before realizing that the book was staying in place in the air where he was holding it, Roman still kneeling on the pages.
Patton watched Roman’s right arm shoot up into the sky, vibrant red magic following its path. A flurry of cursive handwriting followed his palm, creating a double helix of words and magic.
Patton covered his face as a stream of it shot right past his ear. Warm air wrapped around him like he was in the eye of a hurricane. He clutched onto his sketchbook and his watercolours, grabbing the paintbrush behind his ear. He wielded the paintbrush as if it were some sort of sword, but somehow knew that he didn’t need to worry about protecting himself.
And then, Patton opened his eyes.
The first thing Patton noticed was the sky above them. Peeking beneath the shadowed branches of the tall trees was a painted sky of all shades of blue. Flurries of yellow were layered on top of the sky as floating lanterns, moving slowly like clouds in the wind.
Back on earth, small freckles of light spun around him and the forest clearing he stood in, as if the breeze was braiding golden thread in the air. It smelled like petrichor and freshly cut grass, and there was barely any noise; all Patton could hear was his own breathing, and his own heart.
“Holy...shit,” Patton whispered, lowering the paintbrush to his side.
“Why thank you!” Roman used the book as a makeshift magic carpet and guided it to rest on a log. The book easily gave into the shape of the surface it laid on like a blanket. Roman looked around the forest clearing, his smile falling. “Goodness, I haven’t done that in a long time.”
“It was amazing .” Patton grinned at Roman, though it was tinged with a bit of fear– no, not fear, curiosity. How could Roman have done all this? Who was he?
Patton held Roman’s gaze for a moment too long. Roman’s eyes glimmered with a dull sort of excitement and pride that felt as though it was meant for someone else. The air between them thickened with unexpected tension.
“Well, I can’t keep this open forever,” Roman said, clearing his throat. He motioned to the book. Patton caught sprinkles of pulsing red magic lining the book’s edges. “So if you’re going to get started on painting…”
“Yes! Yes, of course.” Patton decided to sit next to Roman on the log, setting his watercolour palette between the two of them. Then, he laid his sketchbook on his lap and got to work.
Patton wasn’t sure if time passed in the same way as it did on Earth (there was no way he was still on Earth) but he knew enough had passed for him to zone out in his painting, so wrapped up in his surroundings.
In the background, he could hear Roman reading out loud from the book.
“And if swirls of blue and yellow are not enough, and if the cities beneath are not enough
And if all these answers are not enough,  love, may I give you this:
A forest made of spiral-words,  and a sky made of whimsy mist.
Notice how I kiss you here, an angel lifted,  then earthy heels in dirt adrift.
So now, when you return here,  my love, I will never be missed.”
“I don’t love my job very much,” Janus hummed as they took a sip from their cup of coffee. They guided Logan through the halls of the museum. “All museums are a little problematic anyway. Most exhibits I see are just prizes for colonialism –  bleh. ”
“Wonderful,” Logan deadpanned. “Life is just wonderful.”
“Isn’t it?” Janus gave Logan a smile that was cheeky enough to be Roman’s, but more serious.
Eventually, they arrived at more modern displays of art. Logan snuck a glance of the exhibit name as they passed by its sign: “ Ever Yours, Vincent : Exploring the Inner Workings of Vincent Van Gogh”.
“This is a recent exhibit I worked on. It isn’t quite ready for the public, but it is down to its final stages of revision. While I was interested in Van Gogh’s works, I was more so interested in what occurred beyond his canvas; in particular, his many letters to his brother, Theo.”
They both weaved through tall, staggered pillars of towering LED screens, which illuminated the dark room. The screens panned over rows of cursive handwriting, as if scanning through a list of ancient relics.
The hall of pillars eventually led to an open layout of interactable displays, glass casings filled with notebooks and paintbrushes and photos. The walls had ceiling-to-floor digital screens that moved through various scenes of Van Gogh’s artwork. Logan recognized a few: Irises, Café Terrace at Night, The Red Vineyard and, of course, The Starry Night.
“Such a bothered man created images that people see and feel enlightened by . I have never met a person who hasn’t felt hope looking at his starry night.”
Logan frowned, noting the swirls of blue and yellow that surrounded him. He didn’t know why, but he longed to touch the walls and feel each individual stroke of paint. He had looked at art before, but was never truly immersed in it.
“Some historians say he was depicting the view outside his asylum window,” Janus continued. “One of my favourite quotes from Van Gogh’s various letters to Theo touched upon this idea.”
Then, as if pulling the threads of their own memory, Janus closed their eyes and recited: “ ‘But what a beautiful land and what a beautiful blue and what a sun’. ”
They then opened their eyes and looked over at Logan with a small smile. “ ‘And yet I’ve only seen the garden and what I can make out through the window’.”
Logan found himself stunted by the quotation.
“He had depression, yes?”
“The diagnosis varies, but yes.” Janus’ lips twisted ever so slightly, staring at the walls surrounding them. “As I said, he was quite the bothered man.”
Logan nodded. On the tip of his tongue were questions about whether or not this proves his point; that even art cannot truly help someone escape the vast nothingness of life.
“You know, Van Gogh wasn’t really famous until after his death,” Janus said after a moment of silence. “Johanna van Gogh-Bonger, his brother’s wife, was the one who told his stories. She pushed for his art to find an audience, and she translated the letters between Van Gogh and his brother.”
As if on cue, translucent cursive slowly sprawled across the screened image of The Starry Night. The script ran alongside the slow-moving swirls of light over the silhouetted town depicted in the painting.
“I told you that I do not love my job, but in reality, I need to do this job more than anything else I need to do. And it’s because of Johanna’s work. It proves that there are stories everywhere, hidden under layers and layers of paint. Beneath every painting is a canvas, beneath the words of a letter is the paper on which they are written.”
Janus’ words were exhaled slowly, their surrounding air rich with a lifelong commitment Logan couldn’t begin to understand. They motioned at the walls, and Logan followed their hand. Logan’s irises were filled with pulsing light.
“Without a canvas, The Starry Night would just be paint, still sitting in the cans. Without the paper, Vincent and Theo would never have talked. Without Johanna, none of that would have mattered. There can be no audience for a story without someone presenting it somehow. Someone needs to be the canvas, and someone needs to be the paper.”
Janus’ words washed over Logan like gentle, moonlit tides. The scene around them slowly dissipated into another painting. The same show of art danced around him like a bewitched merry-go-round.
Logan then looked at Janus, whose eyes were filled with a sense of unshaken fulfillment. Their smile walked a fine line between the walls of definite and whatever laid beyond it.
“So why, then, does anyone make anything at all, Mr. Fray? Well, I am not sure. But I do know this: I preserve art and stories, which is to say, I preserve purpose . And I preserve all of this because they are important. In a life with very little meaning, art worms its way into the spaces that it can fit. And with the help of others, art– and everything it represents– is made bigger than the spaces of life they initially occupy.”
Janus’ eyes twinkled. “All this being said, Mr. Fray, you can imagine what this means for all the stories that follow.”
Janus’ break eventually ended a few minutes later, and as the two parted ways, Logan felt unable to leave the exhibit. A whirlwind of oil paint and words filled his vision as he let Janus’ words settle in his chest. Then, similar to all things in life, the spectacle faded; and in the moment between the next digital display of painted scenery, Logan was left alone in the vast space of emptiness.
—
Logan entered Fray and Far Fables much later than he had anticipated. He was unsure of whether or not he would catch Patton before he left, but said uncertainty was resolved as soon as he walked through the door.
Patton was sitting on an armchair, in hysterics as Roman—to Logan’s horror—magically flipped through a photo album that floated in the air. Roman puppeteered the album like it was a pop-up book, blurry and holographic film footage folding up into view and then back down into the page. The footage showed a young Logan bounding through a backyard, and then an even younger Logan having a tea party with all his stuffed animals.
“What are you– Roman!” Logan bolted towards the photo album and swiped it out of the air, closing it with a swift slam!
“Aw, come on, Lo!” Patton pouted.
“Yeah, rude interference, Moby Dick ,” Roman quipped, but with a smug smile all the same. “I was going to show Patton the pictures of you in your school’s play of The Sound of Music. ”
Patton went starry-eyed. “You were in The Sound of Music?”
Logan rolled his eyes, ignoring both of them as he sat on the chair opposite of Patton.
“Is this really how you spent your first day of book nook adventuring?” He narrowed his eyes at Roman. “I am praying that the answer is no.”
“No, of course not! I just had some energy left to re-animate some precious memories.”
Logan sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. A part of him burned wondering if Patton was somehow embarrassed by it all.
“And precious they were!” Patton piped in, diffusing the flame immediately. “Little Logan running around– ah, I was ready to cry!”
“Thank you, I suppose.” Logan relaxed himself into a smile. “Well then, where did you both go?”
Patton and Roman exchanged looks that, quite frankly, concerned Logan all over again. He had a feeling that mixing the two of them together spelled chaos.
“Some old poetry book!” Patton finally said. “I don’t quite remember the name, do you?”
“Nope!” Roman barked out a laugh. “You know me! Ever the scatter-brain!”
“...Right. ” Logan pursed his lips, not believing either of them for a second, but feeling too tired to press on.
“I did, however, make you something!” Patton grabbed his sketchbook off the coffee table and carefully tore out one page. Logan felt himself grow warm once more.
“Patton, you do not have to give me all your paintings…”
“Nonsense! It’s the least I can do.” Patton passed over the paper. Logan carefully took it in his hands.
In a stroke of odd coincidence, the palette that Patton had chosen was uncannily similar to The Starry Night. It was also less abstract than Patton’s usual style. Patches of navy blue and golden yellow flooded the sky above what seemed to be the silhouette of a forest clearing, which bordered the sides of the painting with dark greens and various shades of black. In the middle of the clearing were a circle of leaves, an open book laying in its centre. And hovering above the book was a small figure, leaving a trail of cursive handwriting and dark red dust, which glimmered ever so slightly in the moonlight that Patton had let fall upon the painted scenery.
“My goodness, Patton...” He looked up at him, not exactly knowing what to say.
“Pretty good, right?” Patton smiled with an uncharacteristic amount of confidence. “I don’t think I’ve ever been so immersed in anything in...well, my whole life!”
“Art can do that to you, I suppose,” Logan let slip. In the corner of his eye, Roman did a double take.
“I suppose so!” Patton stood up, scooping up his notebook and his various art supplies.
“Well, anyway, I hope I didn’t overstay my welcome! I was just waiting for you to come back from the museum– oh! How was that by the way?”
Logan found himself without words once more. Eventually, he just ended up saying, “It was good, Patton. Very...good.”
“Well, good!” Patton giggled. Logan could almost hear the twinkling of painted stars in his laugh. “I think I have an idea of where I want you to go next, but I might wait ‘till my next visit. I need to let everything just settle, heh.”
“You’re valid,” Logan hummed. He held Patton’s stare for a moment too long before clearing his throat. “I...I look forward to seeing what you have next in store for me, Patton.”
Patton broke into a wide, shining smile as he gave Logan a hug. Chills ran down Logan’s spine and jumped between the distance made when Patton pulled away.
When Patton left the shop, Logan took a deep breath and began his routine of closing up. Roman trailed behind him.
“So! What are you going to write about tonight?”
Logan could practically feel Roman’s smug smile behind his back.
“I’m going to write about nothing,” he murmured decidedly. Roman raised an eyebrow at him. Logan shrugged wordlessly. Janus’ words filled his mind once more, as if beckoning him to write everything down in a maddening fury. But even if the exact phrasing faded, the feelings elicited remained the same. And if he was going to understand those feelings…
“I need to lie down,” Logan finally said, going over to flip the door sign to ‘closed’ before heading upstairs. “I just...I need some time to be quiet.”
But despite this attempt, Logan was everything but quiet. For the remainder of the night, he bounced his new ideas and revelations off of Roman, who comically flew above his bed, grabbing each word out of the air in a flurry of ‘told you so!’s.
Logan, however, simply let it happen. He realized that for the first time in a very long time, the pressure of telling others things was slowly being lifted by the experience of being told something; of knowledge being given to him rather than taught.
And somewhere underneath the sandy shores of his chest, a new tide of magic rippled through Logan’s entire core.
The next day, Logan glowed just a bit brighter.
expectations - beckett harrington x f!mc (te)
author’s note: this fic was a request from tanu after the brief scene i wrote in my other beckett x f!mc fic, the sunshine of life.
copyright: all characters owned by pixelberry studios. series/pairing: the elementalists – beckett harrington x f!mc (celeste russell) rating/warnings: 13+; family tension, fluff word count: 2.4k based on/prompt: request from @robintora summary: celeste meets beckett’s parents and it goes about as well as expected.
expectations
celeste cradled her throbbing toe as she sat on the bed with beckett standing in front of her. “why wouldn’t you give me more of a heads up? i have nothing to wear and i have to get a gift! i can’t show up empty-handed!”
beckett rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “it’s not that big of a deal, is it?” celeste gave him a pointed look. “okay, i kind of… forgot.”
“how do you forget about your parents wanting to have dinner with me?!” celeste’s eyes widened in disbelief. as oblivious as her boyfriend could be sometimes, he usually wasn’t this dense.
beckett let out a long sigh. “well, you know how i struggle with their expectations and there’s lot of pressure now that we’re a year away from graduating to make sure i pick the right career.”
celeste lowered her foot and crossed her arms over her chest. when she finally spoke, her voice shook with vulnerability. “and i’m not exactly someone who would meet their expectations, right?”
“i’ve never really had a girlfriend before, so i can’t say for sure,” beckett said thoughtfully. he glanced down and noticing celeste’s crestfallen expression, crouched down to meet her at eye level. “but that doesn’t mean i wouldn’t be proud to introduce you to them as my girlfriend. i love you so much, celeste.”
she tried to smile to reassure him. “i love you too, beckett. i just… i don’t really know the attuned world very well but it seems like your family name and reputation is really important to your parents. and for all they know, i may as well be attuneless. i can’t exactly tell them i’m half-source.”
beckett sat next to her on the bed and wrapped his arm around her waist. celeste leaned into his embrace, laying her head on his shoulder so her nose so she was up against his neck. she breathed in his comforting scent.
“you are the most amazing and impressive person i’ve ever met. they know that you mean a lot to me. they just want to get to know you,” beckett said, pulling back slightly to kiss her hair.
“will katrina be there?” celeste asked hopefully. having a friendly face in the room would definitely make things less daunting.
“i’m not sure actually. last i heard she was somewhere in the amazon doing research,” beckett said.
celeste sighed and stood up. “since i don’t have much time to get ready, help me figure out what to wear that’s going to offend your parents the least.”
beckett followed her to the closet and wrapped his arms around her from behind. he bent down and kissed her cheek. “that dress i bought for you when we got lunch with katrina last year should be more than fine. you look radiant in pretty much anything.”
“yeah, yeah, flattery will get you everywhere, beckett harrington. i’m still annoyed you didn’t tell me until last minute.”
beckett peppered her face and neck with kisses in response until she shooed him away so she could change into the outfit in peace. when she emerged from the closet dressed in the yellow dress and blue coat he bought her a year ago, his eyes lit up and traced the way the outfit curved around her body perfectly.
celeste ran an air spell down the coat and dress to remove any wrinkles before looking up at beckett. “this is the best i’m going to be able to do on short notice. what do you think?”
he put a hand on her waist and pulled her toward him. she stumbled forward and he steadied her with his other hand, leaning in to capture her lips into a steamy kiss. celeste felt warm when they broke apart, beckett resting his forehead against hers. “you make me wish we could be late,” he murmured softly. “you are so beautiful.”
celeste nuzzled his nose with hers. “flatterer. now let’s get going. i really don’t need to get on your parents’ bad side by being late.”
beckett had already manipulated the portal in her dorm room to take them directly to the harrington estate. the arrived in a matter of seconds, which was certainly not enough time to mentally prepare for the evening ahead. she would never admit this out loud to her friends, mostly because they wouldn’t be able to relate, but she wished they had traveled the attuneless way. it would’ve taken infinitely longer, but at least it would have bought her some time to prepare.
celeste stared up at the large, mahogany doors with the harrington family crest etched at the top and swallowed nervously. she fiddled with the buttons on her coat and tried to take slow, deep breaths. beckett slid his hands into hers and squeezed it gently before directing a metal spell with his other hand toward the door. celeste’s eyes widened as she noticed the metal inside the door turn and creak internally before opening slowly to let them in.
he took her coat and handed it to a servant before taking her hand and leading her down the long hallway. they passed what looked like a foyer, a sitting room, a study, another sitting room, or maybe it was a parlor, and a stairwell before celeste realized that she would be utterly lost in a place like this if she were alone. why anyone would need this many sitting rooms was beyond her.
when they finally arrived at the dining room, she noticed that his parents were already seated. mr. harrington appeared just as imposing as she’d imagined, with hair as dark as katrina’s except for streaks of silver running through it. her gaze shifted to his right, where beckett’s mother was sitting with her hands delicately tucked under her chin, eyes not-so-subtly inspecting celeste from head-to-toe. her shoulder-length brown hair was curled and celeste noticed that beckett must’ve inherited her cheekbones.
“ah, they’re finally here. come join us, children,” mrs. harrington said, her tone friendly but without any real warmth.
celeste took a deep breath and followed beckett, taking care to avoid eye contact with his parents as he pulled out her chair for her before settling comfortably to his father’s left. she felt a little relieved that she wasn’t sitting directly across from either parent but made sure to keep a smile on her face. regardless of whatever she felt inside, she needed to remember to smile through it all.
“hi, i’m celeste. it’s very nice to finally meet you, mr. and mrs. harrington,” celeste said, making an effort to keep the nervousness out of her voice.
“it’s very nice to meet you too, my dear. and you can call me alice. i found it odd that our beckett has been dating you for over a year and yet this is the first time we’ve actually gotten to meet you,” mrs. harrington replied; her gaze, however, was focused on beckett.
beckett cleared his throat. “we’ve been busy, mother. with school, internships, and celeste is on the thief team as well.”
“well, at least you seem well-rounded, miss russell. i will say it’s been great to see penderghast as back-to-back thief champions. and you’re a sun-att, correct?” mr. harrington asked. as far as she could tell, he was genuinely curious.
“yes, that’s correct. my secondary attunement is metal. both definitely come in handy in the thief arena,” she said cheerfully, glad to have some common ground with at least one parent.
his mother let out a soft hum before turning her attention to the food that had arrived. celeste stared at what she presumed was a salad in front of her but wasn’t sure given the mix of strange looking ingredients that she hadn’t seen before.
“what’s wrong, dear? salad not to your liking?” alice asked.
celeste quickly grabbed her fork and held it over the plate. “no, it’s just, uh, there are a lot of ingredients i don’t recognize,” she said quickly before taking a delicate bite. she was actually pleasantly surprised at the bright flavor.
“that makes sense given your attuneless upbringing. although truthfully, most people in the attuned world wouldn’t have tried any of the food you’ll get to have tonight. we imported special ingredients from around the world.”
“oh, well, the quality is certainly unmatched. everything looks absolutely delicious,” celeste said as the servants brought out the next course.
while the food was good and unlike anything she’d had in the attuneless world, she didn’t think it was that special. and judging by the pink tips of beckett’s ears, he didn’t appreciate his father’s comments either.
the rest of the dinner went by relatively smoothly, with peppered bits of small talk here and there. most of the questions weren’t too intrusive, and she found it relatively easy to ignore the lightly condescending remarks sprinkled here and there. they were finishing up dessert when they finally got to the topic of what they were going to do after penderghast.
“i haven’t really decided yet. i think i’d probably like field research and working with magickal plants,” celeste answered honestly when they asked her what fields she might be interested in. she had given it some thought as she prepared to declare her major last year. working with plants would allow her to spend more time outdoors and with nature, which is where she felt most like herself.
alice let out a soft tsk of disapproval, barely audible over the sound of her setting her spoon back down on the table. celeste looked away and saw that mr. harrington was giving her a thoughtful look and she tucked her hands between her thighs to keep from squirming under his gaze.
“well, it’s not a very compelling field, but to each their own, i suppose. we have high hopes for beckett to live up to the harrington name, and i’m sure you understand your role in supporting him.”
celeste jaw fell open slightly. they weren’t seriously implying that she should be a trophy wife? “i think i understand where you’re coming from, mr. harrington, but with all due respect, beckett and i challenge and support each other to excel in each of our respective fields. i would hope that you’d prefer someone who can match your son in intelligence and drive and not someone who acts as arm candy.”
“arm candy? is that an attuneless phrase?” katrina’s voice broke through the tension in the dining room. “sorry i’m late, everyone! trying to arrange a portal out of the amazon last minute is not as easy as you’d think!”
“kitty kat! you made it after all,” mr. harrington said, his demeanor seeming to morph into that of a doting father as katrina stopped to give him a kiss on the cheek before making her way over to the seat next to her mother.
“of course, i wouldn’t miss a family dinner like this! i’m so glad we all get to spend time together, celeste is practically family after all!” katrina said, giving celeste a subtle wink.
“that seems a bit premature, darling, considering they’re not even out of college yet. plenty of time to find a proper match,” alice said, dabbing the corner of her lips with a napkin.
“she is by far one of the best students i had at penderghast last year. made it very difficult to decide who to nominate for the attuned magickae uirtus award,” katrina said matter-of-factly as she took a sip of her mother’s glass of wine, much to alice’s annoyance.
mr. harrington’s steely gaze shifted to beckett. “i presumed you would be a shoo-in for the award, beckett. but barely beating out someone who didn’t grow up with magick? i’m not sure that’s something to be proud of.”
“with all due respect, mr. harrington, beckett was able to stay on top of his studies while helping me and my friends protect penderghast from a rogue…” celeste’s eyes briefly met beckett’s. “…attuned thieves. the high attuned herself was very appreciative, and you should be very proud of your son.”
beckett cleared his throat before katrina or anyone else could respond. “celeste and i must be getting back, we do have exams to study for.”
mr. harrington gave beckett an understanding nod. “of course.” his gaze flitted over to celeste, who swallowed nervously. “it was nice to meet you, celeste.”
“thank you for the wonderful dinner and for having us. it was very nice to meet you as well,” she said clearly, hoping her voice conveyed the same grace and confidence as katrina’s.
they stood up and were making their way to the front door when they heard katrina’s footsteps speeding toward them.
celeste turned around just in time to catch katrina as she wrapped her arms around her in a huge hug. “don’t worry about those stuffy old busts. you’ve always got an ally in me, celeste. take care of bean,” she winked, before turning gracefully and heading back into the dining room.
once they were safely outside and out of earshot, celeste let out a long sigh. “i suppose that could’ve gone worse.”
beckett gave her a reassuring one-armed hug. “you did wonderfully. i know it’s not easy to deal with my parents, and you still handled them well while being yourself.”
“sure, because that’s what sounds reassuring right now – ‘your boyfriend’s parents may not approve of you but at least you were yourself!’” celeste retorted, rolling her eyes and pulling away from him.
beckett laced his fingers through hers and tugged their joined hands to pull her close. he leaned down to give her a kiss, “believe me, you did well given the circumstances. and i promise i’ll make it up to you.”
“good, because my mom is visiting next week and we have to get lunch with her,” celeste said cheekily, not even bothering to hide her grin.
beckett’s jaw dropped. “what? you can’t just drop that on me last minute! that’s not enough time to prepare! i’ll have to go to the library straight away to make sure i can engage in conversation – what was her thesis at penderghast?” he started walking faster down the sidewalk, half-dragging celeste with him.
celeste giggled and she sped up her pace to keep up with him, allowing him to tuck their joined hands in the pocket of his coat. now she just needed to remember to actually ask theia if she could make it to lunch next week.
Jonny Toews is a bewitching man who moves into a mysterious mansion in a small town. So Pat’s senior year doesn’t turn out exactly like he’d planned. He still gets his degree in accounting, but he also gets a little girl named Emma. She’s all fat pink cheeks, curly brown hair, and blue eyes. She might have Ryan’s chin, but she’s all Pat’s. And the first time she falls asleep on his chest, chubby hand curled around his thumb, skin so soft and sweet he damn-near feels bowled over with how much he loves her. He didn’t know he could love anyone so much; it makes his heart feel too big for his chest, and he knows that he’ll spend the rest of his life trying to give her the world.
Can You Lyft Me Up? by Mullsandmutts - single dad Patrick
Even high profile athletes like Chicago Blackhawks Captain Jonathan Toews are forced to utilize paid transportation from time to time. An accidental "share my ride" selection on an app results in a life-altering ride with an mouthy Russian driver (Artemi), an unfairly attractive single father (Patrick Kane) and his adorable sassy (and color-matching-challenged) preschool daughter (introducing Molly Donna Patricia Amelia Kane aka Mo). Jonathan refuses to feel too sketch when he negotiates a plan with the driver to "accidentally" have more shared rides with his new friends. When Mo has a traumatic incident at day camp, Patrick's heart is broken and Jonny enlists the help of Temi and the ever-meddling Patrick Sharp to get smiles back on both Kane faces. Jonathan finds himself more and more drawn to Patrick but Patrick's fears of being a good enough parent for Mo and meeting all of her needs could keep them apart. Will Temi, the Sharp family and a trio of nosy aunts in Buffalo be enough to help Jonathan and Patrick realize what they could have together or will Patrick's stubbornness and Jonathan's fear of ruining their friendship keep them apart? Stay tuned to find out ....
Three by Linsky - i won’t spoil it
Patrick doesn’t think he’s a pervert. But how would he know? Maybe a pervert is just a thing you are, and it doesn’t feel any different from being a normal person, until you do something perverted. Maybe that’s him.After all, he does have two names on his wrist.
All Your Memories by toewsandconfused - 1988 as parents; amnesiafic
Pat went to sleep a bachelor in the Trump Towers and woke up next to Jonny in the suburbs with three kids calling him Daddy. Struggling to figure out his new reality Patrick had ruled out dream, was banking on delusion because even though it meant he was losing his mind, it seemed safer than some kind of late-onset amnesia. He didn’t want to face that idea that this really was his life; that Jonny was his, that those beautiful kids were his, and he couldn’t remember any of it. The idea that the memories of their life together could be lost forever was too terrifying to deal with. Losing his mind was preferable to losing his memories.
Jonathan had never really considered himself particularly good with kids. He didn’t avoid them or anything and it’s not like they burst into tears when they saw his face, but he never was exactly sure what to do with them, these little people running around at waist height. It just wasn’t his area.So, of course, Patrick was basically the child whisperer.
Patrick Kane loves statistics and spending his money on thoroughly planned ‘adventures’ for his friends when he’s not partying away the rest of his fortune. If he wins the bet he can continue to plot freely but if he loses his extra curriculum activities have to stop. He agrees to go on an ‘adventure’ himself and settles in the Toews Farm posing as a farm hand. Chapter 3, Angels
A/n: I... wrote this in like... three-four hours. Thanks again to my lovely editor friend, who took the time to look over this even though she had an appointment in two hours that I wasn’t aware of! Love her to death!
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*---~---~---~---~--- *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
You and Bella watched with what was probably an abnormal amount of interest as the horrendously perfect and angelic quintet made their way to a table in the corner of the cafeteria, far away from your own table on the other side of the long room. It occurred to you that if this was an intersecting line graph, they would be an exterior angle to match you, not that it mattered.
As you studied the five of them, you realized their nearly fantastical beauty wasn’t the only thing that made them stand out with such contrast. Three out of the five of them didn’t look anything like highschoolers, more akin to graduating college students or teachers, student teachers at the youngest.
The first person you noticed was the tall blonde who clearly surpassed six foot in height in wedged-heel boots. She was absolutely gorgeous, heart-stoppingly so. She had shining, wavy golden hair that flipped ever-so-slightly at the end in the middle of her back that contrasted heavily with her dark, nearly coal colored irises. Another ridiculously perfect part of her was her picturesque body. A perfect hourglass paired with an equally amazing pair of legs, which looked amazing in the just above knee-length skirt she wore with the boots. She looked… well, beyond words, really.
The next you focused on was also female, and the last girl, who was also bordering magical in her appearance, despite the polarizing styles. She was dressed more simply than her counterpart, but no less beautiful, and was her opposite in many ways. Small and slight in the way that had almost had you worried for her health, bordering faery-like in image. Her dark hair was cropped far above her shoulders, slightly spiked out in a way that looked like a mess but in the best way anyone could hope for. She seemed to be the shortest of the group as well.
By the time all of the students had sat down, you were onto the third, a ridiculously huge boy with curly black hair. Seriously, this guy was enormous, capping his height at over six feet easily, maybe six and a half feet. He was still ever-so-slightly taller than the gorgeous blonde girl.
Another blonde, speaking of, was a boy. Shorter than the ridiculously muscular boy and the blonde girl, which he slightly resembled in hair color, but certainly taller than the faery girl. His hair was blonde, like the Victoria’s Secret Angel worthy girl, but his hair was a deeper shade of honey rather than bright, nearly gaudy gold.
The last student was also the last boy who held a younger visage compared to the high schoolers around him. He was less bulky compared to the other two boys and was slightly shorter than the blonde, making him the second shortest in a theoretical line-up of heights. The only noticeable trait to you was his auburn hair, which shone in the horrible fluorescent lights with a nearly mystical copper quality.
All of these supposed high schoolers, you still couldn’t believe that, looked absolutely worn, like they had stayed up for three or more all-nighters to finish a group project. The dark semicircles that lined the lower lids of each pair of eyes contrasted with the extreme paleness of their faces. Were the five of them a club consisting of those with extreme anemia or something? They looked almost like printer paper, even paler than your notably pale sister Bella. You break your probably intense gaze away from the table of strangers to lean over to Jessica,
“Hey, Jessica,” you call. You get her attention easily as she looks to you. “Who are they?” you ask. She looks over to Bella, easily following her gawking to the table of divine looking students and giggles. You look back with Jessica quick enough to see the bronze-haired boy look up in masked curiosity, dark eyes flickering from Jessica, you, and then your sister. He looks away before you can reflexively look away in embarrassment, but you all do anyway. Jessica giggles again,
“That’s Edward and Emmett Cullen, and Rosalie and Jasper Hale. The one who left was Alice Cullen-” You hadn’t even noticed her leave, now that you realized she was gone. You had turned around for hardly a moment! She must be fast as hell. “They all live together with Dr. Cullen and his wife,” she says under her breath.
“What’s her name?” you ask quietly, “The doctor’s wife, I mean.”
“Esme, I think? I don’t think I’ve ever seen her, but my mom has, she works at the bank. She says she’s really pretty and nice.” Jessica raises her eyebrows, “But most people are that way in public, so who really knows?” Bella glances back at the table, seemingly at the bronze-copper-haired boy, who was picking a bagel apart like it owed him money. He also seemed to be speaking, but the other three at the table didn’t seem to pay attention to him.
“They’re… very nice looking,” your sister manages, obviously in awe.
“Yes!” Jessica giggles, “They’re all together though- Emmett and Rosalie, and Jasper and Alice, I mean. And they live together.” she states with an air of small-town judgment. Even so, it was a bit strange. Siblings, whether biologically related or not didn’t matter to you, really shouldn’t date, right?
“Which ones are the Cullens?” Your sister asks, “They don’t look related…”
“Oh, they’re not,” Jessica assures, “Dr. Cullen is really young, in his early twenties or thirties. They’re all adopted. The Hales are brother and sister, twins- the blondes- and they’re foster children.” So the blondes are related, makes enough sense. The girl was Rosalie, a vintage but fittingly timeless name. Jasper also sounded like an older name, but the only thing you could think of was that jasper was a kind of rock. What did jasper rocks look like?
“They look a little old for foster children,” your sister mentions.
“They are now, Jasper and Rosalie are both eighteen, but they’ve been with Mrs. Cullen since they were eight. She’s their aunt or something like that.” Jessica reveals.
“That’s kind of nice- for them to take care of all those kids like that, when they’re so young and everything.” Jessica shrugs off your sister’s words with a glance thrown in the directions of the Cullens.
“I guess so,” she admits reluctantly. You look at Jessica with guarded judgment. What was so bad about someone adopting kids? “I think Mrs. Cullen can’t have any kids, though.” You grimace, looking over to the Cullen table. Jessica was going to pull something in her arm if she kept reaching so far to find something to judge this family for! You notice the boy, who you have now mentally tacked the name of “bagel hater” onto, looks like he laughed. Of course, you can’t hear him for your vantage point, so you just see his shoulders move slightly and see him murmur quietly, seemingly to his three remaining siblings. You couldn’t see the face of the blonde boy- Jasper- but you can see Rosalie smile slightly, and the big one grins.
“Have they always lived in Forks?” Your sister asks. You turn back to Jessica as she answers.
“No,” she practically scoffs, “They just moved down two years ago from somewhere in Alaska.” You can see Bella physically relax. You weren’t the only ones considered “new” here. Though it was obvious that the now quartet of beautiful students aren’t exactly accepted, though you couldn’t tell quite yet if their segregation from the rest of the school was preferable for them.
“Which one is the boy with the reddish-brown hair?” Bella is still peeking over at the subject of her question when she asks. For some reason, he was staring at your sister with a look of frustration, maybe confusion. You sit up straight and scoot a bit closer to your sister, but you don’t wait for a reaction, instead choosing to look to Jessica as she answers yet another one of your sister’s queries. This girl really likes to talk, or at least gossip.
“That’s Edward. He’s gorgeous, of course, but don’t waste your time,” she huffs, “He doesn’t date. Apparently none of the girls here are good-looking enough for him.” Ah. Girl done got turned down, and apparently isn’t taking it well. Yikes. You purse your lips to keep yourself from smiling.
“Hey,” you try, “at least that means you can find someone else who isn’t such a jerk, right?” She shrugs, but your attempt seems to have smoothed over the sour blip in her mood.
You immerse yourself quietly in the conversation at the rest of the table, listening idly to the girls around you. One girl, quiet and fairly tall, introduced herself as Angela Webber. Apparently she had an oncoming class with Bella. She seemed much more genuine and sweet compared to her friend Jessica. Usually, you would have left to arrive to class much earlier with your sister when you shared lunch periods, but having people other than each other and a few acquaintances was a good reason to stay for you. Bella seemed content enough to stay as well.
Eventually, the bell rings to start passing period. You bid your sister farewell to make your way to P.E. Not your favorite class, but you’d deal. Apparently, Forks required four years of P.E. rather than your old schools two, which sucked. Coach Clapp signed your paper and let you sit out of the class for the day while he got you all your information for locker number and combo as well as your uniform.
Your last class of the day was Introduction to Psychology. You were welcomed warmly by your teacher, a short brunette who's name you had yet to be able to pronounce, so you and other students just called her Ms. S. You were sat in the back of the class next to the only one other open seat.
Right before the bell rings, you notice one last student walk through the door. You’re the only student looking back towards the door when you see Jasper Hale walk through the door. He wasn’t rushing despite his near lateness, and the teacher just looks up and smiles before going back to her work. That’s when you realize the only other desk was next to you. You duck down to your backpack to pull out a blank notebook and a pencil for the class. A notebook and folder were really the only things you were told to bring, so it was easy to get ready. When you popped back up, Jasper was sitting in his seat beside you with his arms crossed on the top of the desk. Despite the casual way he sat, he seemed ridiculously tense, his hands balled up into fists and tucked into his elbows. You shrugged it off and opened your journal to date and answer the bellwork question written on the whiteboard. Ms. S declared the day a workday and gave you your textbook and a few sheets of work. One was just a little packet to see what you knew and the other was a two-sided sheet questionnaire about yourself. You started on that first, which was fairly easy. Favorite colors and books, favorite foods, activities, and questions about family. You finished that about a quarter through the class. You worked on the packet until you answered all the questions you knew how to answer, which was just a little over half the packet. That took about half the class. During the last quarter, you just grabbed a page out of the back of your journal. You doodle little plants and eyes and mindless patterns. Shortly after you started you decided you wanted to try and draw someone. Naturally, the boy beside you would be the easiest to draw, so you decided to draw Jasper. By the end of the class, you had a nice looking, albeit stylized, sketch of your neighbor leaning against his desk.
The bell rings, and in a flurry of zipping backpacks and papers, students pack up and leave. You leaned down to put your pencil back in your pencil case before pulling yourself back up to grab your journal. When you sat up fully you noticed Jasper Hale standing up with his bag slung on one shoulder, head tilted in curiosity as he looked down at the lined paper down on your desk. Before you can stutter out any excuse, he speaks in a soft voice laced with amusement and a slight country tinge,
“You drew me?” he asks. You felt like your face was hotter than the sun,
“Uh, yeah, sorry, I was just bored an-” he interrupts your anxious excuse with a small smile, picking up the paper,
“No no, it looks really good.” Did he really think it was good?
“Uh, thanks,” you mumble, grabbing your journal to keep packing up and refusing to make eye-contact. He offers a quiet thanks before disappearing out the door. Well, that was certainly strange. You finish zipping your backpack before standing to turn your work into Ms. S, who seemed delighted to see you had finished your work early.
“Thank you, Y/n. How was your first day?” You smile,
“It was pretty good, considering I have no idea where I’m going,” you laugh, she laughs.
“Ah, you’ll get used to it all eventually. By the way, do you happen to know Mr. Hale?” Ms. S asks. You blink in confusion,
“Uh, no. This is the only class I have with him, I think? Why do you ask?” She shrugs,
“I just haven’t seen him really interact with many students outside of his family, especially not on his own.”
“He just liked the doodles I made near the end of class, I guess,” you respond. “Anyway, I have to go turn in my paperwork, See you tomorrow Ms. S!” You wave goodbye as you leave, following the streams of students out of the building. From there you were able to navigate your way to the office building with relative ease. You didn’t see Bella inside and waited outside until you saw her slowly making her way to the building, holding her arms around herself to hide from the cold wind. You laugh and wrap an arm around her and walk into the building.
You feel Bella freeze almost as soon as you enter. You notice the receptionist is busy but only realize why your sister is shocked with anxiety when you notice exactly who she’s busied with. Edward Cullen, the boy who gave her a strangely aggressive look during lunch. You pull Bella to the wall to wait, but she presses herself against you and the wall to make as much space between herself and this boy. Jesus, what did this guy do to scare Bella so bad, bite her?
The door beside your sister opens, blowing both of your hair around as a random girl came in to place something in the receptionist’s note basket. Then the weirdest thing happened. Edward stiffened before slowly turning to glare at your sister. You tighten your arm around her and stand up straight, rather than leaning on one leg. You glare right back at his scarily perfect face. This jerk had no reason to be looking at your sister like that! It was only her first day, she couldn’t have done anything to garter such a look of malice. Edward flicks his angry gaze to you for a moment, you still glared, before he turned back to the woman behind the desk.
“Never mind, then,” he nearly growls. Such a nice voice certainly didn’t match to a vehemently hateful face, “I can see that’s impossible. Thank you so much for your help.” He turns sharply and practically marches out of the office. You pull Bella closer against you as he exits. What. A. Dick.  You help Bella to the desk on her wobbly knees, her face noticeably paler than before. You hand your slips into the woman with a shaky smile.
“How was your day, dears?” She asks kindly. You manage a much more believable front compared to your sister, who can barely manage a meager,
“Fine.” You grimaced at her answer, the receptionist didn’t buy it.
“Pretty good day,” you say, “Thanks for the maps, they helped a lot!” She nods as you leave. You climb into the truck, one of the last vehicles in the parking lot.”
You let Bella drive for a while before you bring up her day. She was crying which she never did when sad, only angry or embarrassed.
“So…” You start, “What’s with that jerk? We literally just get here, not even Jessica McGossip-Face was mean, and she’s the most judgmental person we’ve met today!” you joked lightly, but no smile,
“I… I’m not sure? I didn’t do anything. He seemed fine far away during lunch, but he was in my Bio two after lunch and… and he was so weird?! He was on the edge of his seat as far away as he could get from me during class. He froze up and got all angry when I first passed him to get to the teacher and-and I don’t know why?” You reach over and gently rub her shoulder as she drives. You were much better at emotional support compared to your sister and father, but you can only do so much while she’s trying to drive.
“Yikes. It sounds like he’s a dick, if you ask me. Maybe that’s why he didn’t have anyone sitting next to him. Too much of a jerk to work with, “ you speculate, “His brother Jasper is weird in class too if that makes you feel any better. Maybe the whole family is like that. Who knows?” Bella wipes her unreleased tears away with her sleeve,
“Maybe…” You purse your lips before trying again,
“Hey, it’s not good to take in the opinion of someone like him anyway. Did you see how he wasted that bagel? He picked it apart like it insulted his mother! He’s a bagel hater! He doesn’t seem like someone worth taking into consideration to me,” you grin when Bella smiles.
“Ha, I guess you’re right.”
Alien Pooping Boy
CHAPTER ONE
There was a flash of light in the sandpit, a glowing purple dot which rapidly doubled, trebled, quadrupled in size. It was so bright that the two kids making sandcastles - and knocking them down again with gusto - had to shield their eyes. It was in this moment, while neither of them were looking, that a boy emerged from the sphere of light and tumbled into the sand. With a loud pop, the light vanished, leaving the boy shaking sand from his ears and nostrils.
‘Where’d you come from?’ asked Benny, sandcastles forgotten. He’d knocked his glasses crooked, and his red hair stuck up in all directions.
‘Mars,’ said the newcomer. ‘Where am I now?’ He had a slight greenish tinge to his skin and hair, and when he stood up, he was about up to Benny’s shoulder.
‘Mars?’ blonde-haired Alice repeated doubtfully. ‘There aren’t people on Mars.’
‘Of course not; there are Martians on Mars!’ the boy said. Alice supposed that made sense.
‘Well,’ she continued, ‘You’re on Earth. That’s the planet next to Mars.’
‘What’s your name?’ Benny asked. ‘Is it something weird and Martian, like Fleebleblop?’
‘It is Fleebleblop!’ the boy said. ‘How did you know?’ He finished getting sand out of his clothes, hair, and mouth, and started shaking one hand vigorously.
‘We should tell the teachers that a boy from Mars appeared in the sandpit,’ said Alice.
‘What’s a teacher?’
‘They’re the adults who teach us and look after us at school.’
‘What’s school?’
‘It’s the place we go so that adults can teach us and look after us.’
Fleebleblop nodded and looked around. ‘School is sandy,’ he noted. He hopped out of the sandpit, onto the grass. ‘But now I’m not there, so I don’t need to worry about your beaches!’
‘Teachers,’ Alice corrected him.
‘Anyway, school isn’t just the sandpit,’ Benny said. He pointed out the buildings, the monkey bars, and the carpark. ‘It’s all this.’
Fleebleblop pointed a finger into the distance, and Benny was about to tell him that what he was pointing at wasn’t part of the school. It was a vegan pie shop. He wondered if they had vegan pies on Mars. But before he could speak, the alien boy’s fingertip opened up and something brown oozed out and fell to the ground. ‘Sorry,’ Fleebleblop said. ‘Teleporting makes me nervous, and then I just have to poop!’
Alice and Benny stared at him wordlessly.
‘That’s poop?’ Alice asked after a few seconds. ‘From your finger?’
Fleebleblop blinked. ‘Where else would it come from?’
And Alice found herself, for once, lost for words.
CHAPTER TWO
The bell rang, calling the students back into class. Benny began to run immediately, by habit, but Alice grabbed him by the hair, nearly pulling him over backwards onto his bottom. ‘We can’t just leave… Fleebleblop…’ she said. ‘What’s a Martian kid going to do alone on earth?’
‘Poop through his finger?’ Benny suggested.
‘I already did that,’ Fleebleblop pointed out.
‘I poop lots of times a day,’ Benny said proudly. ‘Don’t you?’
Fleebleblop admitted that he did, especially when he’d eaten too many bumbleberries.
‘We don’t have time for this, we have to get back to class!’ Alice insisted. ‘We need to make a quick decision!’
‘I’ll come with you,’ Fleebleblop decided. By this time the playground was nearly empty, and their teacher would miss them shortly if they didn’t turn up in class. Alice didn’t see another option. They couldn’t let an alien kid wander around on his own; anything might happen.
‘Okay,’ she said, ‘but don’t say anything. Just try to look normal.’
‘And no finger-pooping in class,’ Benny added.
‘What about nose pooping?’
Alice and Benny stared at him, horrified.
‘Just kidding! Only people with Martian weevilplops do that, and I’m perfectly healthy!’
The two earth kids both sagged with relief. They grabbed the Martian by his shirt and started dragging him towards their classroom. He ran awkwardly, as if he wasn’t used to moving that way.
‘Hurry up!’ Alice yelled.
‘Can’t I cartwheel instead?’
‘Will it be faster?’
‘Yes.’
Alice and Benny let go of him, and true to his word, he cartwheeled and tumbled at high speed across the schoolyard.
‘This isn’t exactly looking normal,’ Benny muttered. But nobody was around to see, and Fleebleblop was walking upright again by the time they reached the door to their classroom.
To Alice’s immense relief, their teacher Mrs Baker had her back turned and was writing on the whiteboard as they came in. She didn’t notice that an extra child had turned up in her class. She was slightly blind and a little bit forgetful, but she could still count. They sat towards the back of the room and made hushing motions at the alien.
‘So what do we do in a classroom?’ Fleebleblop asked, not bothering to keep his voice down. Perhaps the gesture for “shush” was something different on Mars.
Mrs Baker turned around and squinted at the rows of children. ‘We do as we are told,’ she said firmly. Several children sniggered.
Alice whispered to the alien boy, glaring at a couple of other kids who turned around to stare. ‘Just keep quiet and still,’ she said.
Fleebleblop frowned. ‘I am not good at quiet and still,’ he said, although he did speak a little more quietly than before. Not much, though.
‘Mrs Baker,’ another kid piped up, ‘there’s some weirdo in the back row. He doesn’t even go here.’
Alice and Benny froze, as all heads turned directly to Fleebleblop.
CHAPTER THREE
It took a few seconds of squinting, but finally Mrs Baker saw the strange boy sitting between Benny and Alice. ‘Who might you be?’ she asked.
‘He’s my cousin,’ Alice blurted quickly. ‘His name’s Fred,’ she added, at the exact same moment that Benny said ‘His name’s Bob.’
Mrs Baker raised an eyebrow. ‘Does Fred-Bob have permission to be in my class?’
‘Fleebleblop,’ Fleebleblob corrected her. ‘Although Fred-Bob is a good first try, well done!’
Most of the class giggled. Mrs Baker did not. Her frown intensified.
‘I’m from Mars,’ the boy continued. ‘What’s a cousin? Is something wrong with your eyebrows? One’s up and one’s down.’ He waggled his own eyebrows to demonstrate that his could be either both up or both down. By this time the giggling among the students had progressed to full laughter.
Alice tugged desperately at Fleebleblop’s arm. ‘Just be quiet,’ she pleaded. Benny was too horrified to speak at all. ‘You’ll get us in trouble!’
Fleebleblop turned to her, returning his eyebrows to normal. ‘Where’s that?’
‘What?’
‘Trouble. I promise I won’t take you there; my teleporter is still recharging.’
‘It’s the principal’s office,’ Alice said miserably.
‘Uh-oh,’ said Fleebleblop. He still didn’t know what she meant, but her tone and face made it clear it was nothing good. ‘Now I’m nervous.’ He glanced at his finger.
‘Oh no, Fleebleblop, not here!’ Benny yelled, seeing the alien boy’s finger stiffen to a point. ‘Not in class!’
But he was too late. The nervous alien was already pooping from his finger. At least he was pointing it downwards this time, but still, with the attention of the entire class and Mrs Baker on him, he couldn’t possibly hide it.
Mrs Baker’s face turned red, then purple. She seemed lost for words for a moment, before finally managing to yell, ‘Principal’s office! Now!’ She didn’t specify who, but Benny stood alongside Alice and they both grabbed Fleebleblop and ran.
CHAPTER FOUR
In the corridor, out of earshot of Mrs Baker, they slowed down and stopped.
‘I don’t think we should go to the principal’s office,’ Benny said. ‘How could we possibly explain?’
Alice tried to imagine Principal Cook’s face if she told him that an alien from Mars had pooped through his finger onto Mrs Baker’s classroom floor. ‘You’re right,’ she agreed. ‘But where else can we go?’
‘Where do you live?’ Fleebleblop asked. ‘In caves? Up trees? I want to see Earth homes.’
‘We could take him to my place,’ Alice said doubtfully. ‘Mum’s at work. You’d have to promise to poop in the toilet, though.’
‘What’s a toilet?’
‘It’s a special place for pooping.’
Fleebleblop was awed. ‘A special place, just for pooping? Like, a whole building?’
‘A sort of chair in a special room,’ Benny explained. ‘With water in it.’
‘A flooded room with a chair for pooping! That sounds amazing.’
‘The chair has water, not the room,’ Alice told him. The notion seemed just as exciting to Fleebleblop.
He nodded excitedly. ‘Take me to the pooping chair at your home.’
Now that the terrifying visage of Mrs Baker was several minutes in the past, Benny couldn’t hold in a laugh. It would be several months before he stopped calling toilets ‘pooping chairs’, and his parents never figured out why.
Alice’s house was quite close to the school; she usually walked there alone each morning, and she had a key in case she needed to get home alone too. So it was simple enough to bring Benny and Fleebleblop along, hurrying them inside before the boy from Mars accidentally pooped through his finger again. His eyes widened at the sight of a television, microwave, books, and a stuffed elephant. But he couldn’t be distracted from the notion of a water-filled pooping chair, so Alice showed him straight to the toilet.
‘Why a chair?’ he asked.
Alice looked at Benny desperately.
‘People from Earth poop through our butts,’ he explained, pointing at his own just to be extra clear.
‘Ew!’ Fleebleblop exclaimed.
‘Why, do you eat through yours or something?” Benny asked.
‘No! We just sit on it!’
The next few minutes were spent in enthusiastic verbal descriptions and comparisons of bottoms. Alice left the room in disgust, and the conversation which ensued is best left between the two boys.
CHAPTER FIVE
When the boys had exhausted the topic of bottoms and poop, at least for the moment (it’s a big topic and is always worth revisiting), they joined Alice in the kitchen. She was staring at the clock, trying to remember the difference between the big hand and the little hand.
‘I think,’ she said, ‘we’re going to be in trouble soon.’
‘Where is this Trouble place?’ Fleebleblop asked again, confused.
Alice ignored him and continued. ‘Pretty soon, someone at school is going to notice we’re not there, and that we never went to Principal Cook’s office. And then they’ll call our mums.’
Benny paled. When his mum got going, even the neighbours cleaned their bedrooms. ‘What are we going to do?’
‘We need to decide what to do with Fleebleblop.’
‘Play a game with me?’ the alien suggested.
‘You can’t just hang around Earth pooping through your finger forever,’ Alice said.
‘You can’t make me not-poop!’
‘The poop isn’t the point.’ It was a little bit the point, but Alice felt it better to gloss over that. ‘If anyone finds out about you, they’ll put you in an orphanage or a zoo or something.’
Benny thought being put in a zoo sounded pretty neat, but he thought better of saying so out loud. He spent a moment imagining living in the penguin enclosure, before returning to the matter at hand. ‘Can’t you just go home?’ he asked Fleebleblop.
Fleelbeblop pulled a face. ‘I suppose. When my teleporter recharges. It’s boring there, though.’
‘Boring is better than dangerous,’ Alice said firmly. ‘You don’t want to end up in the chimpanzee enclosure.’
‘No,’ Benny agreed. ‘Penguins would be loads better.’
Alice wisely ignored this. ‘So we need to keep you safe and hidden until your teleporter recharges. How long does it take?’
‘One or two Martian days. What’s a penguin?’
Two days?’ Benny repeated. ‘That’s ages. How do we keep an alien who poops through his finger hidden for two days?’
‘Penguins are a type of animal,’ Alice explained. ‘They’re birds.’ She stood a little taller, proud to recite an Interesting Fact: ‘They’re the only birds that can swim and can’t fly.’
‘And their poop really stinks!’ Benny added. His family had been to see the Penguin Parade last year. The smell was his clearest memory.
‘But they’re really cute and curious and friendly,’ Alice defended the absent birds.
They didn’t sound so bad to Fleebleblop. ‘Is the zoo really that bad?’
CHAPTER SIX
By this time the three of them were getting hungry, and Alice realised that keeping Fleebleblop hidden was only half of the problem. They would have to feed him, too, and both her mum and Benny’s were likely to notice if too much food disappeared from their kitchens.
‘What do Martians eat?’ she asked, peering at the contents of the fridge.
‘Gumbleflaps are my favourite, but pobblejums would be nice too!’
They ended up with Vegemite sandwiches. Fleebleblop said Vegemite tasted like ambiliplums, which were a highly poisonous root vegetable. ‘I’m glad this won’t kill me!’ he said through a mouthful. ‘It won’t, right?’
‘Of course not,’ Benny said, spraying his friends with crumbs.
‘Now, we need ideas,’ Alice said firmly when they’d all finished eating. ‘Benny, clean up here while we talk. I need to concentrate.’
‘I’m going to use the water-filled pooping-chair first,’ Fleebleblop announced excitedly. ‘Do you want to watch?’
Benny nearly said yes, before catching Alice’s eye. ‘Um. I guess not.’
‘Benny, does your cousin still have that cubby house?’ Benny’s uncle Sam had built an incredible cubby for her daughter in their backyard a year or two ago, and most of the neighbourhood kids had spent a night or two camping in it.
‘Yeah, she practically lives in it.’
‘Can you keep her out of it for two days?’
Benny snorted. ‘Not without chaining her to something.’
‘I think it’s our best option. We need to come up with a way to keep her out of it.’
‘We could just tell her about Fleebleblop,’ Benny suggested. ‘Jade’s no snitch.’
Alice nodded, thinking about it. ‘Maybe. But we’ve got a more immediate problem…’
By the time the end-of-day bell rang at school, Benny had found a spare school uniform for Fleebleblop - it was a bit big on him, but it would do - and the three of them were lurking outside Mrs Baker’s classroom, ready to mingle with their classmates in the chaos of leaving. Fleebleblop, for now, was playing the role of a new student whose parents were working, so Benny had kindly volunteered to take him home for the afternoon. Alice was a bit worried that Benny’s parents might be suspicious of him being generous and helpful without prompting, but perhaps, if pressed, he could ‘admit’ that Mrs Baker had asked him specifically. That seemed even less likely, but it was the best they could come up with.
The bell rang right on time, and dozens of identically-uniformed kids poured from classrooms. Alice, Benny, and Fleebleblop had no trouble adding themselves to the stream of mini humanity and heading to the gates to be collected by their families.
CHAPTER SEVEN
Benny’s dad collected him that day. He’d left work early, as he often did on Fridays. Adrian was an accountant, and often told people that it was more interesting than it sounded. It wasn’t.
‘Dad, this is Fred, he’s new in town and his parents are working, is it okay if he comes to our place for a couple of hours?’
Fleelbeblop beamed widely, but remembering his strict instructions from Alice, he said nothing. Adrian couldn’t help smiling in return. Fleebleblop had that kind of smile.
‘Sure. We’re having pizza. You like pizza, Fred?’
Fleebleblop stuck to his vow of silence, and nodded furiously, still beaming, despite having no idea what he was meant to like a piece of, exactly.
‘Not a big talker, huh?’
Fleebleblop looked desperately at Benny, who only shrugged. He looked back at Adrian and mimicked Benny’s shrug. Adrian grinned, shrugged, and turned to walk the boys home.
‘He’ll talk about poop and toilets all day,’ Benny muttered behind his father’s back, ‘but ask if he likes pizza…’ he rolled his eyes. He turned to wave at Alice, who had been picked up by her grandmother. She mouthed good luck over her shoulder as they each went their separate ways.
‘So where did you live before this?’ Adrian asked with the usual adult clueless politeness towards children.
Fleebleblop almost forgot his promise to Alice, and began, ‘Ma…’
‘Marysville!’ Benny interrupted. He’d been there once to visit some old friend of his mum’s. The adults raved about the scenery, but Benny thought it was boring.
‘Oh, that’s a pretty spot,’ Adrian said, predictably. Fleebleblop just nodded and beamed some more.
Back at Benny’s house, Fleebleblop met his mother and his dog. Pets were unknown on Mars, and he almost burst with excitement without being able to speak. The dog licked his face, and he licked it back. Adrian looked at him a little strangely, but let it pass.
But he couldn’t hold his tongue in the face of pizza. ‘This is the best thing I’ve ever tasted,’ he told the family. ‘Plus you can ask for another piece of pizza, and the phrases sound the same! Food is so much fun on Earth!’
‘On Earth?’ Benny’s mum, Benita, said, confused.
‘He likes to pretend he’s from Mars,’ Benny explained quickly.
Benita and Adrian smiled. Kids, eh?
After dinner, phase two of Alice’s plan was activated. Benny told his parents he would walk Fleebleblop - Fred - ‘home’. In reality, he took the alien boy to his uncle Sam’s house. Living in a small town was boring, but at least everybody was close by.
‘Hide in the bushes there,’ Benny told Fleebleblop, before knocking on his uncle’s door. ‘Don’t speak or move or poop until I call.’
‘But I think I need to…’
‘No!’
Benny knocked, and was relieved when it was his cousin Jade who opened the door. ‘Hey Benny-boy,’ she said. ‘What’s up?’
He took a deep breath. ‘This is weird and you’ll think I’m nuts, but I need a favour.’
‘For my favourite cousin? Why not.’
‘I’m your only cousin.’
‘So you have to be my favourite.’
‘Okay, so anyway -’ Benny turned to the bushes where Fleebleblop was hiding and motioned for him to come out - ‘this is Fleebleblop.’
‘He’s what?’
‘Part of the favour is not asking too many questions,’ Benny told her. He felt like it was something Alice might say.
She sighed, but nodded, and let Benny explain the situation. She began with the politely interested face adults use when kids tell them stories, but it wasn’t long before she was looking completely bamboozled. ‘A kid from Mars who poops through his finger. Seriously, Benny?’
Fleebleblop felt that it was the right moment for a demonstration. He’d been needing to anyway, after the pizza. He held up a finger.
CHAPTER EIGHT
Jade was less than keen on giving up her cubby house, but being a full year older and wiser than Benny, she eventually saw the necessity for it. She shared Benny’s belief that living with the penguins wouldn’t be so bad, really, but had to admit that freedom was probably better. The grown ups must never find out about Fleebleblop, and it was her duty as an under-18 to let him sleep in her cubby.
Benny’s uncle Sam was a builder by trade, and the cubby was as snug and safe as any real house. On an inflatable mattress, in a sleeping bag, Fleebleblop was more comfortable than he’d ever been. But he still had trouble sleeping. It had been a day full of new experiences and new people. They’d mostly been good, and he’d had fun, but the unfamiliar can be unsettling no matter how much fun one has. His natural good humour had been prevalent all day, with friendly people around, but some anxiety made itself known while he lay alone in the dark. He was a long way from Mars.
It felt like hours, but was probably only a few minutes, when he heard something outside. There was a long wailing sound, and something scratching at the wooden door. Fleebleblop sat up, hearts racing. He had three, and they were all telling him to be scared. But he reminded himself that Benny or Jade would have told him if there was anything dangerous around here. He took a few deep breaths, and went to the door. There was a small gap between the door and frame, and he put his eye to it and looked out.
What he saw was surprisingly small, for the noise it had made. It was black, furry, and had a long tail that waved gently behind it. It seemed to detect Fleebleblop’s presence at the door, and looked up. It made the wailing noise again.
Fleebleblop gathered his considerable courage, and opened the door. The creature slipped inside immediately, through a gap the alien boy would not have thought wide enough for it.
‘Hello,’ he said, feeling a little silly. The animal glanced at him, then stretched and made itself comfortable on his mattress. It started making a different noise, a deep vibrating sound. And then, apparently, it fell fast asleep.
‘Did you just want a comfortable bed?’ Fleebleblop asked the sleeping creature. ‘Me too. I suppose we can share.’ He still had some apprehension about lying next to an unknown animal - was it a penguin, or a chimpanzee, he wondered - but it was small and sleeping, and he thought it could hardly be much of a threat. He carefully lay down beside it. It’s warmth and purr lulled him to sleep in minutes.
CHAPTER NINE
He woke in the morning to the sound of people talking outside the cubby. The small animal was gone, although a warm spot remained. Fleebleblop opened the door to see Alice, Benny, and Jade sitting on the ground. Benny had promised that somebody would be there in the morning, but seeing all three of them was heartwarming for a boy so far from home and everything familiar.
‘Good morning!’ he said, and all three turned to face him, smiling. Well, Jade looked a bit annoyed, but she was trying.
‘Did you sleep okay in there?’ Alice asked. She had spent a few nights in there herself, and knew it was very cozy and comfortable, but she couldn’t help worrying.
‘There was a little black animal who insisted on sleeping with me. But it ignored me,’ Fleebleblop told her.
Jade giggled. ‘That’s Muppet. She’s a cat.’
‘Cat.’ Fleebleblop tried out the word. ‘What does it do? Is it tasty?’ Martians don’t have pets.
‘Probably,’ Benny said, ‘but we don’t eat cats. They’re too cute.’
Alice had a niggling feeling that there was more to it than that, but she let it pass. ‘It’s Saturday, that’s a day off school,’ she told Fleebleblop, ‘so we can just about do anything. Do you want to go to the playground?’
‘The ground plays?’ Fleelbeblop asked. ‘What games does it play?’
‘No,’ Jade explained, ‘a playground is a place you go to play.’
There were four playgrounds in town, but only one had swings, and Alice insisted on swings. They were her favourite, and she thought Fleebleblop would like them too. They were halfway there when Fleebleblop touched her shoulder for attention, and looked at her guiltily. ‘I need to… you know…’ He was beginning to learn that, on Earth, pooping wasn’t done in public, or talked about much. But he wished he could just point and let it go.
Alice looked at the hand he’d touched her with. ‘It’s the other hand, right?’
He said it was; apparently on Mars it was the height of rudeness to touch someone with the hand that needed to poop.
‘Well, there are toilets at the playground. You can wait five minutes, right?’ Alice knew that most girls eventually ended up sounding like their mothers, but she hadn’t expected it quite so soon.
‘I think so,’ Fleelbeblop said, although he wasn’t sure how long a minute on Earth was. He could probably wait three Mars minutes.
It was a warm sunny day, and it seemed like half the neighbourhood kids were out and about. The four of them were just another group heading to a playground, except that Fleebleblop was holding his finger with a worried expression.
‘Hey Alice!’ a kid called, passing by. He was the one who’d ratted out Fleebleblop in class. ‘How’s your weird cousin?’ he laughed, then spotted Fleebleblop in the group. ‘How’d you do that poop trick, that was brilliant, Mrs Baker was so mad!’
‘Alice…’ the alien boy said, looking meaningfully at his finger. ‘I can’t wait anymore.’ Alice groaned, as Fleebleblop pointed the finger at the other boy. ‘And it isn’t a trick,’ he said. The tip opened up, and Benny had a brainwave. He pushed the alien forwards, so that he was standing right in front of the bratty boy from class. The poop landed right on the boy’s shoe.
‘Now, run!’ The three humans raced away from the scene of the crime, Fleebleblop cartwheeling after them.
CHAPTER TEN
They arrived at the playground puffing and giggling.
‘Did you see the look on his face?’ Benny crowed.
‘Classic!’ Jade exclaimed.
‘We’re going to get in so much trouble,’ Alice said, for what felt like the hundredth time recently, but she was giggling while she said it this time. Fleebleblop didn’t bother asking where it was, this time. He was already losing interest in the prank of a whole minute ago, and was captivated by the play equipment and the possibility of future fun.
‘Which thing is the swing?’ he asked.
It turned out that swinging, being pushed as high as Benny could manage, was terrifying. ‘Benny, you know what happens when I get nervous!’ Fleebleblop yelled from the zenith.
‘Knock yourself out,’ Benny called back, laughing.
‘That sounds painful!’
Benny took a few steps back as poop began to rain from the sky, flying in wide arcs as Fleebleblop swung back and forth.
‘You said this was fun!’ the alien wailed at Alice. Fortunately for him, with Benny seeking cover from the poop rain, the swing was slowing down, and Fleebleblop jumped off awkwardly. ‘I am never doing that again. That was worse than teleporting.’ His legs shook, and Alice felt bad for laughing. But not bad enough to stop.
‘Try the monkey bars,’ Jade suggested, dangling upside down.
Fleebleblop peered at her, twisting his head to try to make her look right. ‘I can see the bars, but where are the monkeys?’
‘We’re the monkeys! Come on!’
Fleebleblop liked the monkey bars a lot more than the swing. He was strong and nimble, and had excellent balance.
‘It must be all the cartwheeling,’ Alice guessed. She vowed to practice her own cartwheeling, as the alien swung past her.
‘I’m hungry,’ Benny announced. ‘We should go to my place and grab some lunch.’
‘Can we have pizza again?’ Fleebleblop asked enthusiastically. ‘A piece of pizza!’ Such a fun phrase to say.
‘There’s none left. We’ll make sandwiches or something.’
‘Vegemite!’ cheered Fleebleblop. Earth food was incredible.
‘What will we tell your parents this time?’ Alice asked. ‘Do Fred’s parents work on weekends?’
‘We’ll go to my place, and have a picnic in the cubby,’ Jade decided. ‘Nobody will notice or care how much food we take. Picnics are like that.’
‘Who is Nick?’ Fleebleblop asked. ‘What are we choosing him for? Will he make the sandwiches?’
CHAPTER ELEVEN
Fleebleblop waited with Alice in the cubby, while Jade and Benny raided the kitchen. Muppet, the black cat, reappeared and jumped straight onto Fleebleblop’s lap, making him jump.
‘What do I do with it?’ he asked.
‘You pat her,’ Alice said, demonstrating. ‘But be careful, if you touch her tummy she’ll probably scratch you.’
Fleelbeblop wasn’t sure why that should worry him. The creature was tiny and fluffy and very cute. It certainly couldn’t do him any damage. But Earth was strange and unpredictable, so he avoided the cat’s tummy anyway. Muppet purred under his touch, and Alice reassured him that was normal. ‘It means she’s happy.’
‘I’m happy too,’ Fleebleblop announced, beaming, and began making his own purring noises.
Jade and Benny appeared in the doorway, each carrying a wicker basket filled to overflowing. Dad’s been baking,’ Jade explained. ‘There’s a cake and some muffins and fresh bread. But mum made me grab some fruit, too, so we’ve got strawberries and apples and some other stuff.’
‘Vegemite?’ Fleebelblop asked.
Benny grinned. ‘I made a Vegemite sandwich just for you.’
The four of them attacked the piles of food with gusto, and before long there was little but crumbs left. Fleebleblop exclaimed over every new thing, finding blueberries particularly to his liking. Finally, as Alice set aside the last muffin, too full to finish it, a strange bell-like sound filled the cubby.
‘What’s that?’ Benny and Alice asked simultaneously.
‘That’s my teleporter, it’s recharged!’ said Fleebleblop. He showed them the watch-like device strapped to his arm. ‘I can go home!’
Alice felt a confusing mix of sadness and relief. Trying to keep Fleebleblop safe and hidden was stressful, but he’d certainly made life interesting. ‘Do you have to go right now?’ she asked.
‘I should,’ he said regretfully. ‘It’s been fun here, and you guys are weird, but I miss home too.’
Alice nodded, accepting ‘weird’ as a compliment. ‘Well, it’s been fun. And weird.’
‘We’ll miss you,’ Benny said, surprising Alice, who’d never heard him express emotion beyond hunger or boredom.
‘You can come and visit me next time!’
‘We don’t have teleporters,’ Jade pointed out.
‘I’ll send you some,’ Fleebleblop promised. ‘Can I take some blueberries?’
‘No, you’ve already eaten them all.’
‘Oh well. Off I go, then!’ Fleebleblop stood up. He hugged Jade first, who returned the favour with some confusion. Then it was Benny’s turn. And finally Alice. Alice blinked back tears, trying to show her new friend a happy face when she pulled away from his hug.
The alien boy beamed at all his new friends, and pressed a button on his teleporter. A sphere of purple light grew from it, growing until it was as big as Fleebleblop himself. ‘Thank you all, I’ll miss you!’ he called, as he cartwheeled into the light. And, with a pop, the alien and the light vanished completely.
Alice, Benny, and Jade sat in silence for a moment, just looking at each other.
‘Nobody’s ever going to believe this,’ Jade said finally.
‘That’s okay,’ said Alice. ‘We’ll know.’
Broken Without You (Jasper Hale x OC) | chapter 1
Author’s note: Hello! i don’t normally post that many stories or much on here but I’ve been working on a Jasper Hale fan-fiction to try and redeem him and show my favourite cowboy vamp some love. Anyways, this story contains swears and will have some graphic scenes referring to mental health and past trauma. I’ll give more specific warnings where they apply. Also, each chapter is inspired by some music; so if you want to listen to that particular song while you read, you can but you don’t necessarily have to :)
Summary: Eleanor Rae lives in a town where there are seemingly no secrets, but what happens when a certain vampire takes an interest in her. She’ll soon find out she’s not the only one with secrets. Will he be able to put her broken pieces back together? Can she fix him in return?
Track 01 - Eleanor Rigby by Alice Cooper
Forks, Washington; the rainiest town in the United States. The benefits of living in a rainy town is the fact that the forests nearby are some of the greenest you’ll ever see. The cons of living in a rainy town as small as this one is how there are no secrets; everyone knows everyone for the most part. Therefore, when people see me: Eleanor Rae, they immediately know my back story. Of course, you’re not from Forks, so how would you know who the hell I am, or what my story is.
The Rae family, also known as my mother Cecilia and myself, lives in a small cottage on the edge of town. Our small, 2-bedroom place is just close enough to town to be considered still in Forks, but with the town being so small, you’re simply ten minutes from all needed amenities. One such amenity is the hospital that my mother works at and the high school I’ve been attending for 2 years. At school I’m known as the strange girl with headphones glued to their head. Everyone has stopped trying to talk with me and try to become my friend, because I’m just ‘too weird’. Outcasts in small towns are rare; no secrets are allowed. Thus, why I envied the Cullen family.
The Cullen’s were a family that became the talk of the town since freshman year of high school mostly because they broke the unwritten rule of small towns; they had secrets. No one knew what these secrets were, but everyone knew there was something they were hiding. The patriarch was the best doctor Forks has ever seen; Dr. Carlisle Cullen. He and his wife manage to take care of six adopted teenage kids; who in their right mind would do that to themselves? Their kids are a completely different anomaly. Even though they are all adoptive siblings, they happen to look extremely similar; blemish free complexion, model-like beauty, and this sense of grace that normal teenagers definitely don’t have. The thing that bothers me the most is that after a year or so, everyone stopped paying close attention to the strange family, but I didn’t. I mean, it’s hard not to when they’re all so beautiful, especially the brother with the wavy golden hair that frames his face perfectly. He was the one I was the most drawn to, and I don’t really know why. There was something about his presence that calmed me; God I wanted to talk to him. But how does one speak to someone as gorgeous as Jasper Cullen?
I climb out of my Jeep, my feet planting on the cement of the parking lot. I look up at the building, sighing softly to myself; Junior Year of high school. A lot of people tend to stress about senior year, but to me, junior year is the one that matters. You need to figure yourself out because next year you’re applying for colleges. If you don’t have yourself figured out before senior year, then you’re royally fucked. I take my time to cross the lot before entering the school; the white tiled floor already scuffed from the various footwear. The lockers remained the same, even some of the posters on the walls were the same. The only thing that really seems to change is the people; some with different haircuts or new clothing. Different people smiling and laughing with new friend groups, some people missing because they moved during the summer. Growth spurts from the now sophomores, and then the completely new group of people that no one from the older grades recognized; the new freshmen. The one thing that stayed the same among the students, is no matter how much they laughed and joked with their friends; at the end of the day, we’re all lonely people.
I follow the flow of people as I make my way to my first class of the day: history. I always dreaded history class because of the teachers that usually instruct the class. Why is it that every boring and/or almost ready to retire man teaches history class? If someone exciting taught the class, I might actually like it more. I arrive to the room, flags of various countries littered over the open door and students were already finding their seats. Luckily the seat in the far back corner by the window was vacant; that’s where I always try to sit. I like that seat because its far enough back that if you doze off in class no one really notices, and if you want to zone out rather than listen to the teacher, then you have the window to stare out of.
Once I sit down, I take the time to pull my supplies out of my bag. All I tend to use is a notebook and pens while everyone else pulls out tablets and laptops; call me old-fashioned. I flip to a fresh page in the notebook when a voice pulls me away from my task. The accent clearly southern and extremely polite.
“Excuse me ma’am, is anyone sitting here?” I look up and I’m immediately met with the eyes that resemble the most expensive topaz gems; glittering underneath the fluorescent lights. He raises a brow as he gestures to the desk adjacent to me, “Ma’am?”
“Yeah… sorry,” I blush, snapping out of my daze, “There’s no one sitting there, go ahead.” He smiles at my answer as he makes himself comfortable, or well, as comfortable you can on a plastic chair. He pulls out his own notebook and pens, preparing for the class that’s about to begin. I couldn’t help myself from admiring his movements. His pale hands move with more grace than I could ever; placing the pens gently down on the wood of the desk, making sure they were ready when needed to take notes. My eyes didn’t stop there; they wandered from his hands to his choice of clothing. It’s not every day you get to sit this close to a member of the Cullen family, I plan on taking advantage of this rare moment. His clothing was simple but coordinated; his grey sweater with brown buttons matching the brown colouring of his dress pants. The one thing that stood out was his choice of footwear: cowboy boots. They were legitimate brown and black leather cowboy boots, and damn did they look worn in.
I snap my eyes away from him before he could notice my staring, paying my attention back to the rain falling outside. Its then when Mr. Henderson stomps in the room and slams his folder down on his desk. He seemed about as thrilled about the first day of school as everyone else in this room. He began his lecture the same as every other first day lecture; the expectations of the class, the policies and rules and what he expects from us as students in his class. This isn’t what I dislike about the first day of school, what I hate are the icebreaker activities that the teachers force you to partake in.
“Okay class, for the rest of the period I’m going to have you and someone next to you discuss the answers to these various questions.” His monotone voice explains while handing out a worksheet covered in various questions. Students quickly pair off, some actually participating in the exercise while others begin discussing what they did during the summer.
“Would you like to be my partner?”
I raise a brow at the southern voice breaking my observations, “What?”
“For the exercise?” He mimics my expression.
“Right… sure.” I blush, chuckling awkwardly.
“I’m Jasper, by the way. Jasper Hale.” He smiles politely.
“Hale?”
He chuckles, “Yeah, my sister Rosalie and I kept our last names.”
I nod, taking in the new information. I had no idea that he had a different last name. I always assumed that because they were adopted by Dr. Cullen, they all had the same last name.
“I’m Eleanor… Eleanor Rae.” I smile, turning to face him, “But my mom calls me Ellie.”
“What do your friends call you?” He raises a brow.
“Um… I guess Ellie?” I shrug, “I don’t really have any friends.” I look down at the worksheet, reading through the questions. Most of them were related to history class, some were about life goals, and school related questions.
“You don’t have friends?” I glance up at him as he asks his question, his brows furrowed.
“Not really. I like to be in my own little world I guess.” I shrug, “Kind-of similar to your family in that way.”
“How is that similar to my family?”
“Well, you and your family keep to themselves, so do I.”
He chuckles, shrugging, “I suppose,” He looks down at the questions, reading the first one off, “What are your goals for after school?”
“Um…” I furrow my brows thinking about the question. What are my plans? I haven’t really started thinking about where exactly I’ll be in roughly two years; after graduation and when I’m supposed to have my life figured out. I hope one of my goals for after I graduate would to attend college and take classes in psychology or philosophy; wanting to learn more about myself in the process. Another goal I eventually want to accomplish is leaving this small town; starting a new life in a new town where no one knows who I am, maybe take some time off and travel the world. Of course, I don’t say any of this to him, instead I respond with, “Probably go to college or something. Get good grades, you know?”
He nods, “That’s what the teachers want us to say.” His face slowly forms a smirk, “I feel like there’s more you want to say.”
I roll my eyes, my own face phasing into a smirk, “Maybe,” I lean closer to him, “But I’d like to hear your answer first.”
He chuckles, “Well, one of my goals is to settle down eventually. Find someone who understands me.”
I blink, “How romantic.” I reply sarcastically with a chuckle.
“Don’t judge darlin’.” He chuckles along with me. His pet-name catches me off guard, the southern drawl dripping from the word, “Now, give me your real answer.”
“Well I’d love to travel, and maybe start a new life somewhere.” I shrug, “Some place where no one knows everyone else.” I lean back in my chair, crossing my arms over my chest.
“And you judged my answer.” He raises a brow playfully as I blush.
“Well, both of our answers were cheesy,” I glance back down to the paper with a sigh, “These questions are also lame and cheesy.”
“Then let’s make our own questions.” He retorts, “What…” he pauses to think then continues his question, “What is your favourite movie?”
“Really?”
Jasper laughs, “It’s a valid question. Mine is Pride and Prejudice. Either that or The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.”
I chuckle, thinking about his answers. They’re both older movies, and one an even older novel. To be honest, those movies seem to match him perfectly. He seems like a gentleman kind of guy, and extremely old fashioned in his mannerisms and in the way he speaks. Not only that, but the western matches his god-awful cowboy boots.
“Well, probably Jaws or The Breakfast Club.” I shrug, “I’ve seen both of them too many times to count so they’re probably my favourites.”
He nods at my response, “Both excellent movies. Very different though.”
I blink, “Well, your mood changes therefore the things you enjoy watching or listening to at any given moment doesn’t necessarily stay the same.”
He narrows his eyes at my words. It was like he was surprised by my answer, and that he knew something I didn’t know. He didn’t say anything to my answer, but I could tell he wanted to. He fell silent as the class continues to have their various discussions; his golden eyes shifting from group to group.
“What’s your favourite colour?” His eyes snap back to me at my question.
“It changes all the time.” He smirks, his answer mimicking mine from previously.
“Well what is it today?” I smirk back, raising a brow. I watch as his eyes look around the room, as if to find the answer throughout the room.
After what feels like hours, his eyes finally land on my own, “Probably green.” I blush, looking away from him, letting my dark hair fall in front of my green hued eyes. I didn’t know why he was trying to flirt with me, I mean… I’m me. Why on earth would Jasper Cull–Hale want anything to do with me? “What’s your favourite?” He tries to get me to look back at him.
“Red or burgundy.” I mumble, glancing up at the clock; only five more minutes of class left, and, in this moment, I wasn’t sure if I wanted these last five minutes to last forever, or be finished in seconds. Jasper makes me feel differently and I’m not sure if I can pin-point why.
“Why those?” He raises a brow. I’ve never pondered why I liked the warm colour before. Maybe it was because it symbolized various emotions like passion, love or anger. Maybe I liked the colour red because when I wear red garments of clothing, it complements my pale complexion well. Or maybe it’s because it reminds me of the red flowers in my mother’s garden outside our cottage home; roses, dahlias, and peonies planted in various patterns.
When the bell rang, signalling the end of class, I only then realized that I didn’t answer the question; thinking of an answer quickly as I gather my supplies so I could move to my next class in my schedule, “Probably because it’s familiar.” I mumble as I leave the class. I only take a moment to glance back at him momentarily; seeing his confused expression before I join the sea of other students in the hallway.
Here’s a fifteen-questions meme I stole from my splat-blog!
I’m not tagging fifteen people, but if you’re a mutual of mine that wants to take part, consider yourself tagged.
1. Are you named after anyone?
Pansy: A flower, if that counts! It’s a family tradition for the firstborn.
Ivan: Not exactly. I share a name with some video game character Alice liked the sound of.
Queenie: Sadly not. While I appreciate that my name stands out, sharing a name with one of my ancestors would’ve been a mark of pride.
Taylor: Mmmnope. I like ‘Taylor’ enough because it starts with a T like Tomiichi, but I wasn’t named after anybody—though you know, as a point of interest, it was meant to rhyme with my brother’s name!
Neo: I was named after my grandmother.
-
2. When was the last time you cried?
Pansy: Aw, man… I try to stay positive around Prim, but I do cry about silly stuff sometimes. Maybe a week ago? Sometimes the past just catches up to you.
Ivan: Longer than I can remember.
Queenie: What an invasive question! I don’t think that’s any of your business. I do not cry frequently.
Taylor: Now why’d you want to know a thing like that? I think I’ll keep it to myself!
Neo: Mind your own business.
-
3. Do you have kids?
Pansy: Have you met Primrose? That’s my daughter. She’s really sweet, but she’s also quite shy, so please keep that in mind.
Ivan: This is a difficult question to answer. I’d say no. I don’t think granting someone’s wish makes me a father.
Queenie: Not yet. I intend to.
Taylor: Woah, no! Do I look responsible enough to be a dad? Ahah…
Neo: No. I would rather not.
-
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Pansy: I try not to, er, I’m not so great at it. And it’s kinda mean.
Ivan: I get reprimanded for being sarcastic. It happens regularly.
Queenie: What do you think?
Taylor: There’s always room for some well-placed sarcasm!
Neo: Any time I make a joke.
-
5. What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Pansy: I try to get a good read on folks—so, I guess their whole profile? That’s before I start looking at their individual features. If something sticks out to me from there, I’ll focus on that—but not in a mean way! Like, seeing someone’s smile, or if they’re carrying something, or their size, or claws. That’s what I mean.
Ivan: Their aura. It’s not difficult for me to discern a person’s moral alignment, and that’s important for my role.
Queenie: Their posture, how they walk, how they talk. It’s important for a first impression and can often be an indication of status. Or, perhaps more importantly, an indication of their intent…
Taylor: Their mood! I don’t want to step on the toes of anyone that’s angry, and happier people are more likely to give you the time of day, you know? Improving someone’s low mood is great too, but I have to gauge my limits.
Neo: I’m not known for noticing people. How social they are, I suppose.
-
6. What’s your eye colour?
Pansy: Psychic pink! They do that thing where they get more vivid when I use my powers—just the psychic ones, though. And I don’t use those too much ‘cause I risk a headache… still, I like my eyes.
Ivan: Brown, orange.
Queenie: Smoky Quartz.
Taylor: Brown. You know, like coffee? If I were a coffee, I think I’d be a Caffe Latte. … But, yeah they’re darker than that.
Neo: …I don’t mind my eyes being green as much as my hair.
-
7. Scary movie or happy ending?
Pansy: Don’t mind either one, but I’d prefer a happy ending, even in a scary movie. That said, there are scary movies I just won’t watch, so I guess happy endings win out.
Ivan: I don’t waste much time watching films unless I’m asked to, but I prefer a happy ending. A good story is the most important, though.
Queenie: Happy endings are far too sappy and saccharine, but I can’t say I receive much thrill from horror either. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy watching them … my favourite part of a movie is criticizing it.
Taylor: Happy endings, please! I can’t understand why anyone would want to scare themselves – unless it’s silly fun, but that’s different. Y’know, not that I scare easy or anything…
Neo: Scary movies tend to be more interesting, but… I don’t have anything against happy endings. Horror isn’t my genre, either, unless it’s psychological.
-
8. Any special talents?
Pansy: I have a bit of a green thumb!
Ivan: That all depends on your perspective.
Queenie: I’m an excellent piano player.
Taylor: People tell me I’ve got a lot of charisma, and I consider that a talent!
Neo: I suppose converting myself into digital matter could be considered a talent.
-
9. Where were you born?
Pansy: A town not so different from Erryton, actually! It’s not far.
Ivan: Great question.
Queenie: Enigma Island, not far from Thorn’s Peak.
Taylor: Would you believe me if I told you I couldn’t remember? Aha. I know we moved when I was really young.
Neo: Doesn’t matter.
-
10. What are your hobbies?
Pansy: Well, like I mentioned, I quite like doing plant stuff. I used to sketch ‘em and make notes about ‘em too, but I stick more to the practical side these days. I also like to bake! Mainly pies, cakes and cookies.
Ivan: I play the flute and cithara. Next question.
Queenie: I have a wide array of hobbies. I enjoy painting, reading, and  playing the piano—as I have already mentioned. While I’m not … particularly adept at sewing, I practice cross-stitch on occasion. I also like to write poetry, and take a bit of interest in botany…
Taylor: Most of my hobbies have some aspect of music tied to them—I like playing the guitar, mixing tracks, and just listening to albums. But I also like playing videogames and taking apart machinery for fun. I can even help people fix things! Er, sometimes.
Neo: I read comics and watch movies, like most people. You wouldn’t be interested.
-
11. Do you have any pets?
Pansy: Not anymore, but I’ve had two cats – Mr Ravioli in my childhood home, and then Kiki later on. I’ve considered getting another, but I think I should wait until Primmy is a little older…
Ivan: No.
Queenie: Estelle! She’s a darling little kitty-cat and I love her so. <3
Taylor: One dog, a shibe—my father bred his, and I got a puppy. Tadashi!
Neo: My brother makes robots, and we have one of those roving floor cleaners. I would consider that a pet. We call him V.I.N.CENT.
-
12. What sports do you/have you played?
Pansy: I’m not really big on sports – I like magic fights? But I don’t do that a lot now.
Ivan: I may have taken part in some sport or another, but if I did, I did not commit it to memory.
Queenie: I like to swim, though I have not played any sports as such. I have also been horse riding—oh, and I’ve played badminton once or twice.
Taylor: Alice likes table tennis, and we play together sometimes. Apart from that, um… I’ve been asked to play football and baseball before?
Neo: I like to run. Parkour is fun too.
-
13. How tall are you?
Pansy: Five foot seven, and I’m the shortest in my family…
Ivan: Depends.
Queenie: A reasonable five feet and ten inches without heels.
Taylor: Ahaha … let’s just skip this one, shall we? You don’t need to know that.
Neo: Taller than you.
-
14. Dream job?
Pansy: I’ve pretty much got my dream job, all things considered! I guess I’d like it if I could get paid to do plant study, but I never really had the grades to do that as a job.
Ivan: I’m working on my rank.
Queenie: I have entertained the possibility of having a career before. Hotel management seems like an interesting prospect … or a jeweller, perhaps? Oho, I don’t know if I could be trusted to sell anything. Either way, I’m comfortable enough managing my home and finances.
Taylor: I’ve always wanted to be a big-name tv presenter—hell, even a small-name gameshow host! I’ve not given up on my dream yet, but being a radio show host is close enough. I can use it as a stepping stone. Yeah, a music quiz show would be great…
Neo: I don’t know. Even when it comes to things I like doing, I’m not sure I’d want to make a job out of it. Coding is just convenient.
-
15. Favourite subject in school?
Pansy: Science! I also liked geography, ‘cause I was pretty decent at it.
Ivan: I have never attended school.
Queenie: I’ve both been to school and had private tutors, but my favourite subjects were history and literature. They rely on eachother, so were easy to write papers on.
Taylor: Apart from the obvious ‘music’, it was mathematics—and yes, I’m serious! I also liked science and IT.
Neo: From what I remember of school, I liked science and computing classes. The rest of what I learned was from online courses.
 That’s… that’s it? It just ends? Alright then.
Note
About your kh story idea of SI in Ventus's body. The one who doesn't know KH. Can you give some snippet? Or just raw ideas? Cause I just like this oblivious person being dropped sideway into KH, causing confusion everywhere.
Yeah, let me just shove some stuff I’ve written under a readmore.
Note: It’s set in the space between DDD and KH3. I’ve also moved up some events that I’m pretty sure happen either during KH3 or right at its beginning for...reasons. Also, using my usual worldbuilding extra for lulz.
Out of (Anime) Body Experience
My room’s cold. Frigid.
The heater go out again? Third time this month, stupid landlord...
I smack my lips, hand reaching up to rub at my face. No blankets, probably pushed off by my active sleeping. Sleeping I would like go back to, fuck the cold.
Feels awfully hard for my bed.
I snort and roll over.
Only there for to be nothing to roll onto.
WHACK!
“Fuck!”
That hurt! The floor is super hard. Not great for smashing your face against.
I peel myself off and sit up, rubbing at my sore nose.
Wait...that hand. Not my hand.
And the rest of me? I look myself over. This isn’t right at all.
My new clothes are a mismatched black and white mix, and seem kind of small for some reason? Tiger-like stripes (scars, maybe?) stretching curling around my arms, my wrists, in a pale brown. Hair’s not in my face, should check that out...
My fingers brush the top of my head. My hair...it’s all pokey. Spiky. Naturally, no gel needed apparently. Could be a really bad case of bedhead, but bouncing the hair with my head...it stays in the same spiky shape pretty stubbornly.
“What the hell.”
Okay...everything is anime. Why is everything anime? Am I dreaming?
I glance behind me at my “bed.” Not a bed at all, but a white throne. Chain patterns surround it, on the walls and floor.
Also, a pressing problem: what the fuck was my new body doing sleeping on a throne? That’s never a good thing in a story. Implies some sort of special destiny whenever it happens. A special destiny that does not belong to me, stranger of this body.
Maybe my surroundings will provide me with some clues.
First observation: everything is very...white. A neon, eye blinding white. The white of mad scientist laboratories from fiction. Possibly real life too, don’t you need stuff to be white to see if blood and shit gets on the floor?
...actually, that’s my second observation. My first is that I’m anime now.
Another point of interest: do I know what anime? If it is an anime, I guess. Can’t tell without a mirror, unfortunately.
Well, can’t see my face at least. I reach up and tug a chunk of hair down into my field of vision.
Blond. Bright blond.
...
Well, that told me...not a lot. Blond’s the usual tropey thing, isn’t it? Probably makes me a...possible protagonist. Not good for my future health and wellbeing.
If this is an anime, again. Still don’t know that for certain.
This shit’s way too weird for me.
Need a breather.
I sit down on the throne again, for a spot of thinking. Shiver as goosebumps race along my new skin.
My fingers drum against its arm.
My list of facts so far:
-Room is white. Very white. Also cold.
-No bed. Just a probably symbolic throne.
-Anime hair, anime clothes, anime body. Not my body. New. Also short?
Also. Probably, possibly a dream. Doesn’t feel like one, but...who knows for certain?
“Gotta find a way out.”
Won’t that be fun...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I shield my eyes as I look over the building I’ve just vacated.
A...castle. A weird Alice in Wonderland, on a bad acid trip type of a castle, pointy green roofs everywhere. Not a speck of white to be seen, unlike the entirety of its interior.
A castle. Huh.
“That explains the throne.”
Better not be a prince, new body. I don’t have any idea how to run a country.
My current surroundings are gray fog-mist. Everywhere.
No landmarks, other than the castle.
My chest heaves. Great. Time to pick a random direction and walk.
Everything keeps looking the same even after who knows how long I’ve spent walking through the shitty fog.
Probably magical or something like that. Meant to protect the castle most likely, from people finding it.
Really inconvenient to me, trying to leave the castle.
I groan and pop my back. I better not get stuck here for-
Wait.
A shiver runs across my back. A someone-is-watching-me kind of shiver. I turn and there’s...
There’s someone about my size standing in my way.
Wearing a black coat, and a strange faceless helmet made of a pitch black glass.
Yeah, this guy is clearly some sort of villain.
Whoever you are, I dub thee Mr. Helmet. Nah, Dark Helmet. Better reference.
“Hey, Venty-Wenty. Fancy meeting you here,” a pretty roughed up male voice grinds out.
Huh, that's a derogatory nickname if I’ve ever heard one. Also a clue.
Apparently this body did belong to someone else at some point. Someone who this guy has a derogatory nickname for.
Venty-Wenty.
...
Oh God, please let this body’s name not be a type of coffee. Please.
Fishcake was bad enough.
Dark Helmet seems to be expecting an answer of some sort.
I really don’t have enough information nor the desire to pretend to be someone I’m not. Straightforward it is.
“Who’s that?”
Dark Helmet doesn’t seem happy with that, moving more into my personal space.
“...did you forget again?”
Again, an important clue. My body reacts before my head does, shoving the guy out of my space. My mouth follows after. “Back off.”
A choke of a laugh. This guy needs some cough medicine or something, stat. “Venty-wenty, I can’t do that.”
Okay, enough of this.
“Look, I’m not this guy you’re looking for and frankly? I don’t give a shit.”
I turn my back on him. Have my own answers to look for, away from this dude.
Look, I know, I know, dumb mistake on my part. Hindsight 20/20.
Catch a swish of something smashing towards me, in the corner of my eye.
Dark Helmet’s already displayed a temper. A dislike for whoever owned this body before me. Why wouldn’t he attack me from behind?
With a fizzle of something that jitters in my veins, I twist and my hand stretches out.
CLANG
The strange weapon Dark Helmet’s using clashes against some kind of sword, cold metal suddenly appearing out of nowhere in my hand.
A sword that-
Wait.
Wait just a damn minute-!
I know what kind of weapon this is. You wander around long enough in any anime or video game adjacent part of the internet, you learn at least about the kind of weapon I’m currently using to keep myself from getting a severe case of stabbitis.
A Keyblade.
“Shit, Kingdom Hearts?!” I blurt out.
Dark Helmet moves his helmet head closer to me. Enough to catch some of my puzzled blue--eyed reflection in the black glass. A head tilt of some sorts, maybe? Can’t see his expression, makes everything harder on my part.
“What?”
“Shit, fuck. Just ignore that.”
I press back with my “Keyblade.” My body somehow manages the rest, doing some kind of flick that pushes me away from the masked guy. Out of his reach.
A state of being that doesn’t matter much with video game mechanics or any kind of anime stuff.
...Wait, is that something I have to worry about? Food for later thought.
More importantly, Kingdom Hearts! I don’t know anything about it, other than the Keyblades and shadow monsters called Heartless and there’s Disney characters!
The main character’s either...Riku or Sori? Can’t remember.
Definitely not me.
...Considering I’m currently going up against what is most likely a minor villain of some kind, that doesn’t actually make me feel better.
My face screws up in a scowl. “Go away, got it? I don’t want to fight you!”
“I’m going to beat some sense into you, Ventus.” Dark Helmet lifts his own Keyblade into some overarching attack stance, like the one Obi Wan always uses in Star Wars.
Finally got a name. But...got a fight too.
Of course it’s going this way.
It’s totally anime, shounen anime at that. Fighting solves everything, right?
Great.
I’m no Naruto though, able to pull off a talk-no-jutsu. Just...try not to die, I guess.
I sigh and attempt...to do something. I don’t actually know real fighting stances, so I hope the position my new body has fallen into automatically will do me some good.
Dark Helmet makes a hissing growl noise and goes right into it.
Time for one last word.
Perfect for the situation, I settle on,
“Fuck!”
(>.<)
Don’t really want to go by my real name.
What can I use instead?
...
Not one of my most recent handles, even if they can’t access
Well, there is that really old internet username I used back when I was a dumb Spyro fanboy on the edge of middle school wandering through forums I probably shouldn’t have been going through.
sparxbestfriend11.
Or an actual name out of that...
“Sparx.”
Alice asks to stay in Jason’s room for company during a sleepless night, and she gets a small glimpse into the toymaker’s personal life.
Words: 1427
‘’This is a bad idea.’’ Zero said unhelpfully as she floated after Alice. She was, of course, ignored, and Alice proceeded with her plan.
She stopped outside the red wooden door. It was decorated with black and cream diamonds, which was fitting considering the room’s occupant. Jason. Jason the toymaker. Hesitantly, she knocked on the door. It was silent for a few moments before it swung open. She was greeted by a tall redhead in a shirt, vest and slacks. He looked down at her and his expression became mildly irritated.
‘’What is it?’’ he asked. Alice gulped.
‘’I uh- I was wondering if I-’’ she glanced away. This was a bad idea. A very bad idea. Zero was right. ‘’I...had a bad dream, and I don’t really like being alone so- I was wondering if I could stay in your room for a little bit?’’
Jason looked confused and even more irritated. ‘’Why me?’’
‘’Well- Nat and Jane are sleeping together and I didn’t wanna bother them and I can’t bother Zalgo so-’’
‘’So you came to bother me.’’
‘’...Yeah…’’
Neither of them said anything for a few moments. Jason eventually sighed and stepped aside. ‘’Come in, if you must.’’
Alice hesitated, then walked inside. Slowly she shut the door behind her and looked around.
His room had turquoise walls and a baby blue carpet. It was big. Way bigger than her own room. The ceiling was absurdly high too. She then realised why though. The room's main source of light was a chandelier. Looking around she could see there were toys scattered everywhere. Plushes piled up around his king-sized bed, every shelf was covered with little dolls, puppets or blocky wooden toys. There was a...pillow fort, oddly, against the left wall. There was also a glass cabinet only a few feet away from it. In the left corner was an old brown couch, a small TV and oddly enough...a kitchenette. It didn't have much, just a microwave, kettle, counter, sink and a mini fridge.
Over in the right corner was a miniature library, complete with an ornate blue chair, desk, bean bag and shelves packed tightly with books. Over on the back wall she could see a wardrobe and standing mirror. There was a door over near the corner, and next to it sat a washing machine and dryer. The middle of the room was...a mess. There were some colourful blankets laying on the floor, and toys were scattered around the area, like a child had just gotten up and left after they were done playing.
While lost in her thoughts, she failed to notice something moving across the floor and under the TV stand. It slithered over and coiled up her legs. She shrieked and stumbled back against the door. The thing was long and purple. It leaned up to her face. Colourful, almost hypnotic eyes met her green ones. The thing, it looked like a snake, opened its wide mouth. To her horror, Alice could see hands inside its giant maw.
Everything went black for a moment. When her vision returned Alice was floating above her body, watching it screech again and wrestle the snake monster off.
"HEY!" Jason barked, glaring over at Zero who now controlled the girl's body. The snake slithered across the ground towards him. Jason crouched down and allowed it to curl up around him. She heard him croon at it like a beloved pet before standing up and glaring at Zero again. "He's just being friendly. If you cared enough to not screech at the first sign of danger, Zero." He growled.
"What the hell is that thing?!" Zero barked back. Jason looked offended.
"He's not a thing," He pet the snake lovingly as it rubbed its face against his. "His name is Mr Glutton, and he's harmless. He eats wax, sweet wrappers and sometimes deodorant when I forget to lock the bathroom door." He looked at the snake and smiled a bit. "You're very mischievous, aren't you my dear?" He cooed. Zero scrunched up her nose in disgust.
"How did he know you were in control?" Alice asked. Zero glanced at her, then back at Jason.
"How did you know I had control?" She asked. Jason looked unamused.
"Because Alice wouldn't try to throw my beloved pet across the room."
"Hey! I wouldn't-!" Zero paused for a moment. "...I...wasn't planning to at least…"
"Mmm." Jason looked away and back at his workbench. He had quite a large work area with three separate desks. On the one to his left sat a sewing machine. The one to his right was covered with woodwork tools, and the middle one he currently stood at was covered with papers and a few miscellaneous items. "Do me a favour and be quiet. And don't pick fights with any of my other creations."
Zero rolled her eyes. "I'm putting Alice back in control." She responded, crossing her arms. Jason just nodded. Alice didn't get a chance to object. After another moment of black she suddenly found herself standing in her body again. She looked at Jason and shuffled nervously.
‘’Sorry-’’
‘’Just keep her under control.’’ Jason growled back. Alice nodded and looked around. Eventually, she walked over to the library area and looked over the shelves. Most of the books looked somewhat old and worn. Many of them were...children’s stories. He had quite a lot of old classics though, and a lot of poetry. She ran her fingers along the book’s spines, reading the names with curiosity. She paused, looking at one. ‘The Secret Garden’. One of her childhood favorites! She tugged at the book very, very gently. It was packed tightly into the shelf. How Jason got any of his books in or out of the shelf she didn’t know but-
‘’Agh!’’ the book came free and she stumbled back, falling over. She heard Jason laugh and she looked over at him with a glare. He just gave her a slightly amused look and went back to work. She got up and walked over to the bean bag, taking a seat down in it. She curled her legs up and opened the book. She paused, looking at the first page. It was...signed. By an author that had died in the 1920s. She blinked and looked over at Jason. For a moment she considered asking him about it but- maybe not. Disturbing him was probably a bad idea. So instead, she engrossed herself in the world of Mary Lennox and the Misselthwaite Manor. Not even Zero interrupted her, just content to listen to Alice read.
‘’What are you reading?’’ she was interrupted halfway through chapter fourteen by Jason’s voice. She looked up and over at him.
‘’The secret garden.’’ she replied, watching him stretch. He nodded.
‘’That’s a good one.’’ he murmured. ‘’Very atmospheric.’’ she watched him step away from his workbench.
‘’It was one of my favorites as a kid.’’ Alice said. She smiled a bit. ‘’I remember my mom reading it to me before bed…’’
Jason wandered over to the pillow fort against the opposite wall, his stuffed snake still wrapped lovingly around him. ‘’Your mother read to you?’’
‘’Yeah.’’
‘’...That’s nice.’’
Alice watched him crouch down and let Mr Glutton slither off of him and into the fort. He pet the snake gently as it curled up amongst the pillows. Jason stood up and looked over his shoulder at her. ‘’Would you like to keep it? To finish reading, of course. I want it back.’’
‘’I can?’’
‘’So long as you don’t dog ear or damage the pages, yes.’’ he gave her a stern look. ‘’I bought that book over ninety years ago, and I don’t want to have to replace it.’’
Alice stood up quickly and nodded. ‘’I won’t. Promise.’’ she smiled a small bit. ‘’Thank you, Jason. I appreciate it.’’
‘’It’s nothing.’’ Jason walked off towards the wardrobe. ‘’Now go back to your own room. Its five in the morning. You need rest, I’m sure.’’
Alice blinked in surprise. ‘’It is?’’
‘’Yes.’’ Jason took off his vest and hung it up. ‘’You’re human, mostly. While I’m sure Zero can function fine with only a little bit of sleep, you can’t.’’ he looked at her. ‘’Do try to take care of yourself, Alice.’’
Alice was admittedly surprised. Jason had always been very intimidating and mean, especially to Nat but- he was telling her to sleep. She smiled a small bit and nodded. ‘’I will. Thanks Jason.’’ she smiled wide at him, then walked over to the door and left.
